From Caroline Frost PhotographyAs I’m sure you can tell from the photos, Stephanie and Dean’s wedding was a whole lot of fun for them and for their guests. Every detail was personalized and carefully selected for this elegant farm wedding from the groomsman socks from the wooden table numbers. Even their bridal party attendants got custom engraved mint julep cups! But they also had tons of activities to keep the guests entertained throughout the evening including a watercolor guest book, a personalized cornhole toss, bocce ball and a photo-booth. To add to the elegance, Stephanie and Dean were near professional dancers after a year of dance lessons.

They chose to get married in Ithaca, where they first met at their Alma Mater, Cornell. Since most of the bridal party was also from Cornell, we even hopped over to Cornell for some fun portraits around the campus.

Intimate Peach + Navy Stripes Skaneateles Wedding

Planning a wedding from the other side of the country while keeping in mind a budget is definitely a challenge. But, this DIY bride rose to the occasion and created the wedding of her dreams. From the personalized cornhole board to the hand-drawn signage, this gorgeous bride did it all (with the help of friends and family, of course!). The result is a truly one-of-a-kind affair captured by Mary Dougherty Photography. See all the proof that DIY details are a major wedding “Do” in the gallery.

From the beautiful Bride… Having spent my summers on Skaneateles Lake since childhood and seeing all the beautiful weddings in the quaint village as we would dock our boat and get our ice cream, I knew then, as a little girl, that I would someday be that Bride with her Groom having their wedding portraits taken in that perfect, picturesque village on the lake.

When my husband proposed, we were on the water (surprise!) but on the other side of the country in Seattle, Washington. We knew without a doubt that we both wanted a summertime Skaneateles wedding. Planning a budget-friendly New York wedding from Seattle, I knew was going to be a challenge, but one that I was excited to do! My husband and I are both pretty laid-back and fun-loving, so we envisioned our wedding to be a reflection of that. We knew that we wanted an indoor-outdoor reception that was somewhat like a back yard party, that wasn’t too rustic and had a touch of elegance to it. After an extensive Google search in our initial planning stages, we stumbled upon the Frog Pond Bed and Breakfast and we both knew right away it was going to be the perfect setting. Besides its beautiful carriage house, gardens and sprawling lawns, the Frog Pond was a blank canvas. We were able to bring in all the vendors of our choice and it allowed me to have the creative freedom in designing a wedding that was truly personal and “ours”.

When designing and dreaming up the feel and decoration for our wedding, I was most inspired by the lake and wanted it to have a hint of a nautical feel (without being too “theme-y”) paired with soft touches of coral, peach and blush pink. Since we were on a pretty tight budget, I knew that I was going to be doing a lot of the do-it-yourself decor myself. From the coral ombre pillow covers on the lawn, to hand drawn signage and paper fans on the walls, it was all done by yours truly.

My husband and I are both from New York, but we fell in love and currently live in Seattle, so incorporating some personal touches from our new home was very important to us. The table numbers were postcards from a favorite vendor in Pike Place Market. The driftwood that held the watercolor ombre place cards was gathered from Discovery Park Beach where my husband proposed to me. And of course we had so serve all of our guests craft beer and wine that was local to Seattle and the pacific northwest.

Since I was planning our wedding long distance and most of it was DIY, it required the help from a lot of family and friends. My crafty mom took on the challenge and made all the striped tablecloths on the patio and the runners that lined the head table in the tent and the dessert tables in the carriage house since I could not find a navy and white striped table cloth from any rental company in the area. My best friend’s fiance made the awesome cornhole boards from which we applied custom vinyl decals I had made from a shop on Etsy. My good friend who is an event planner in New York City offered to design and arrange all of the flowers and bouquets. From the assortment of bud vases overflowing with huge dahlia blossoms to my bridesmaids’ perfect coral bouquets tied up with navy and white grosgrain ribbon, she took my vision and blew away all of my expectations. Last but not least, my talented girlfriend that I went to design school with designed all of our invitations, logo, menus and programs. We loved that so many of our family and friends came together to make our wedding day so personal and special, along with the help of our month-of coordinator, we would not have been able to pull it off without them!

The morning of our wedding day, my girls and I relaxed and sipped mimosas as we got our makeup applied and hair done at my parents’ cottage on the lake, while my Groom and his Groomsmen buttoned up their suits and chilled out before the ceremony at the historic Sherwood Inn in the village of Skaneateles.

We arrived to the small Catholic church that I had grown up going to every summer, and while I was nervous and excited to have my Groom see me for the first time, I could feel the energy and love from all of our family and friends that filled the little church and I had a sense of calm while I waited with my dad before the doors opened to walk down the aisle. Our ceremony was personal and intimate and filled with laughter here and there, but what made it even more special was that my cousin was able to marry us and bless us as we became Husband and Wife.

As we arrived to the Frog Pond I remember gasping with excited and happiness as I saw all of the details that I had planned come to life. It was everything that I had envisioned and more. As guests arrived, we mingled, played corn hole and drank the signature cocktails on patio under the trees strung with cafe lights and bunting banners. Dinner was held under the tent in the back lawn where my husband and I were introduced for the first time as Mr. and Mrs! We toasted champagne and ate delicious seasonal food made by a local cafe that had catered many weddings at the Frog Pond before us (which was very helpful!).

Following dinner, we were interrupted with the most beautiful, golden sunset where our amazing photographer, Mary Dougherty, and videographer,  Zach Cullen, ushered us to the front lawn for some impromptu and very special portraits. In that moment, my new Husband and I were able to take a breath, be present and just enjoy each other. The pictures and footage they captured are some of our favorites from the day and a moment we will never forget. We were then introduced for a second time as we entered the carriage house to have our first dance as Mr. and Mrs., enjoy dessert and cocktails with our guests and dance the night away with our family and closest friends.

Our wedding was all we had hoped for and more. Even with the unpredictable weather upstate NY experienced that summer (and it was forecasted to be storming all day!), it did not rain a drop and we were blessed with the most perfect day and and even more perfect sunset. I couldn’t have asked for anything else on the day we became Husband and Wife.

Traditional Rochester Country Club Wedding

When the Bride is an event planner, you know you’re going to see a beautiful wedding and an amazing party too! This blissful couple achieved just that, with invitations from William Arthur and lovely lavender florals (and some help from Mom!) setting the tone for an utterly elegant affair. Take a peek at the full gallery from Alexandra Meseke, to see some major pretty from this lovely day.

From Alexandra Meseke PhotographyBeth and Mike are the kind of couple that every photographer dreams of photographing. Not only are they both easy on the eyes without even trying, the camera also loves their chemistry. They were so comfortable with us from the very beginning, and I think it really shows in these photographs of them. I really love when you can look at a photograph of a couple on their wedding day and completely forget that a camera and a photographer was even there. It manages to be just them being themselves and looking so effortlessly happy.

Beth and Mike planned a flawless event. While they wanted it to be beautiful of course, it was more important to them that their guests have an incredible time. Everything was elegant and classic about this day. They picked one of the most beautiful county clubs in all of the Rochester area. The golf course CCR is so beautiful you really do manage to forget you’re even on a golf course. There is so much history just in the beauty and size of the trees.

What I loved about this event is that Beth did not get caught in trying to out DIY all the other brides out there. She let her venue speak for itself, and accented it with some phenomenal flower arrangements, and table settings. It never ceases to amaze me what a mix of differently sized candle votives can do to a table and therefore a room. Keep is simple, keep is timeless, keep is beautiful. Another really lovely detail was that instead of table numbers they did places that were significant to them as a couple and as individuals. Personal touches like that really go a long way. The other part of what we loved about this event is what an incredible party it was. Every single guest was on up and dancing because the music was amazing. If you’re going to go the band route it’s so important for them it hit the thing out of the park, and Nik Lite did that and more. Every bride is going to look stunning in her own way, and a gorgeous venue is a gorgeous venue. But not everyone can pull off a killer party like that. And what more could you want then all of your loved ones to leave your wedding saying what an incredible time they had, and wishing it didn’t have to end.

From the Bride… As a child, and now an adult who is against eating lobster in any capacity (all due to a childhood experience where my little “pet” lobster whom I adored didn’t remain a “pet” for long), it was rather ironic when on our first date, Mike ordered lobster. After a quick panic phone call to my best friend in the restroom, I stayed and had an amazing time. He swept me off my feet, and five quick years later we were engaged. Interestingly enough they say that those crustaceans I adore find one mate for life and it was clear, I had finally found my lobster.

As an event planner for the Harold Pratt House in NYC for the past seven years, I’ve been planning other bride’s weddings for years, but never truly envisioned my own. All I knew from the beginning was I wanted my guests to have an amazing time and I knew I could create it myself, having listened to so many clients list off what did and did not work out for each and every wedding over the years. The entertainment and photography were the most important to us. We knew wherever we ended up it would be beautiful, and as long as guests were dancing the entire night and the memories were captured, we would be thrilled. I also have stared at, fluffed up and bustled hundreds of wedding dresses, so by the time it was my turn to buy “the dress”, my goal was to have it fit my personality and love every minute of wearing it. My Reem Acra dress was just that and more. Mission accomplished!

If I could offer advice to the bride-to-be’s out there, it would be to take it one day at a time and to please you and your fiance first and foremost, and then make compromises along the way for friends and family. In the end, everyone will have a blast, so don’t stress the small stuff. Oh and try not to serve lobster!

Romantic Summer Ceremony Decor Inspiration

When Two Of A Kind Rentals, ever swoon, and Face Time Beauty come together, we’re in for a treat. So I got excited about the magic they recently created, especially considering it showcased one of my favorite decor areas – the often overlooked ceremony site. Add in blooms from Designs By Ahn and Gotham Florist, and Alicia Swedenborg’s pics and I’m bursting with ideas. See all this beauty right this way!

From Two of a Kind RentalsI teamed up with an amazing group of wedding vendors and spearheaded two styled shoot titled “Candle Lit Arches” and “Chuppah Delight.” We receive an overwhelming amount of questions from brides each spring regarding the many ways to style their ceremony backdrop. And this is our answer for them! Just one of the many ways it can be done.

We get excited about a good wedding arch and wanted to prove to our brides that it can be done in a modern, trend-forward way (unlike the traditional plastic arches you see at a lot of rental companies!).

The amazing team at Designs By Ahn wrapped our Vintage Metal Arbor with buckets of green garlands and fresh florals to achieve a romantic, lush green backdrop. White, blush and cream colored blooms were incorporated to add a romantic accent. With the addition of large and small vintage metal lanterns, candles and the Green Building’s exposed brick walls, this entire backdrop came to life!

Our groom wears a 100% wool custom Sene suit (thanks to their amazing wedding party discount!) while our bride wears an intricately beaded Nearly Newlywed sweetheart gown. Special thanks to the Facetime Beauty hair and makeup team for providing red lips and a head full of curls for our bride!

We could think of no better backdrop for this shoot then The Green Building in Brooklyn, New York. The venue’s rustic, exposed brick walls and natural colored floors created a most majestic canvas for this shoot. Thanks to Alicia Swedenborg for the photography and Ever Swoon for styling!

We also outfitted our bride in Preston & Olivia veils which perfectly accented the intricate Ceci New York stationery included in this shoot. Bridal bling provided by Marisa Perry brought our bride to life! Flower crowns made from white, blush and cream colored flowers made by Designs by Ahn adorn our bride’s head.

The “Chuppah Delight” design goes out to all of our brides who ask for wedding decor direction! Most times our rental clients have reception decor, menu details and color schemes planned out from the beginning but tend to forget about one important thing… their ceremony backdrop! With the help of our vendor friends here in New York, we introduce brides and grooms into the wonderful world of non-traditional chuppah options and what that could look like for their big day.

Gotham Florist layered bunches of greens and fresh florals on Two of a Kind’s White Birch Chuppah to achieve a magical layering effect. As you can see, we excluded the typical white chuppah linen and instead showcased layers of greens and magenta, light pink and white flowers creating our own natural canopy.

Made in Heaven Cakes baked a lace covered 3-tiered cake for our bride and groom to cut which matched perfectly with the intricate Ceci New York stationery included in this shoot.

Modern NYC Bookstore Wedding

Stop everything you’re doing; we have a dress that deserves your full attention. This Oscar De La Renta masterpiece is pretty much all I’ve been thinking about since the moment I laid my eyes on it, and this stylish Bride is my new hero. Her chic celebration, planned by ever swoon, is chock full of goodness and Sasithon Photography captured them all right here. My new fav? I think so.

From the beautiful Bride… We decided to get married when we stumbled upon the venue, Housing Works Bookstore in SoHo, New York. Housing Works is a non-profit bookstore in our community and, with its mahogany- paneled bookshelves and spiral staircases, the space felt very intimate and true to our experience in New York. Our objective for the evening was to throw an elegant and modern dinner party with delicious food and great music. We planned our wedding remotely during a year in which we were living in Italy, so we relied heavily on the endless know-how and organization of our Event Planner Tamra Sanford of Ever Swoon, and the impeccable aesthetic of our Floral Designer Kat Hyppolite of Kat Flower. Kat created beautiful bouquets and centerpieces in pinks, burgundy and purple that looked wild and romantic, and complimented the floral motifs Nico designed for our invitations and paper goods. We also had a wonderful photographer, Sasithon Pooviriyakul, who completely understood how to translate our vision of an intimate dinner party into stunning candid images of the evening.

We were lucky enough to have friends and family from all over the world join us for the evening, so we worked with our celebrant Fintan Moore to create a ceremony that was intimate, thoughtful, and true to our partnership. We decided on a Celtic Handfasting ceremony, which celebrated our shared Irish heritage and communicated a key message of the night: two families coming together. As interludes during the ceremony our friends recited poetry from the staircase behind us. It was a special moment to celebrate our love and friendship; our wedding party knotting our hands together with ribbons as our guests watched on from the balcony above. Since we had over a year to plan the wedding, we had the opportunity to be very mindful of every detail. I designed my own fragrance for the day, and Chris had cufflinks made to honor his favorite soccer team.

Over the past seven years we have shared seven addresses, so we named our seven tables after streets we have lived on, which was another fun way for our guests to share in our story. Of course even the best-laid plans often go awry, and the blazing red wedding dress was chosen only days before the wedding. Some of the most important parts of the night included handmade and personal elements made by our families. Chris’s sister prepared her incredible coconut cream pie, our absolute favorite, for our wedding dessert and my mom made handmade paper using flowers and seeds from her garden, which she turned into bookmarks to pair with our wedding favors – books from Housing Works, of course!

Glamorous Lyndhurst Castle Wedding

This next glamorous affair is something straight out of a storybook. From their castle ceremony to the pastoral surroundings, every detail a la X-Quisite Events is downright dreamy. Exchanging vows amidst the sun-drenched foliage, Unique Visions Studios captured every happy tear while Sara Wight shared it all in the gallery.

From the Sara WightWhen public relations professional Jessica, 25, and private wealth portfolio manager, Anthony, 29, met working at a small cafe in Somers, N.Y. in 2005, they had a new found friendship. What they would find over the next three years is that their friendship was something more. They got engaged in November of 2014. For their big day, the couple wanted a venue they could make their own, but one that was unique and captured the vision the bride had since she was a little girl. “I always wanted the fairytale wedding,” recalls Jessica. “We wanted an elegant farm-to-table feel with a touch of vintage.” The couple, who now lives on the Upper East Side felt it was only natural that they marry in Westchester county, the place they grew up. When it came time to wed, the couple chose Lyndhurst Castle in Tarrytown, N.Y. An outdoor ceremony at the iconic Rockefeller castle amid the pastoral fall foliage made for a storybook backdrop. Lanterns led down to candlelit tent – romantic and whimsical. Amber lighting highlighted the sea of white and blush hydrangeas and roses. Rustic farm tables surrounded the dance floor, which was flooded with friends and family as they danced the night away to the sounds of Hank Lane’s finest. “It was everything I wanted and more,” says Jessica.

Romantic + Elegant New York Garden Wedding

Garden weddings are my happy place and this elegant affair has got me beaming from ear to ear. Capturing an organic oasis filled with old world charm, Jen Huang Photography was behind the lens as these hometown sweethearts wed in true style. With stellar details by Roey Mizrahi Events,  McKenzie Miller Films captured every happy tear below!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/74473030 600 338]

From Roey Mizrahi Events… Kristen and Chris’ love story begins in the town in which they both grew up. While they hadn’t met until several years after high school, they quickly made up for lost time and crafted a playful relationship. It was clear they were destined for one another and as a result, Chris asked Kristen for her hand in marriage at the top of the Belvedere Castle in Central Park.

The couple was inspired by thoughts of an elegant English garden for their late August wedding. After a handful of venue visits, Kristen and Chris fell in love with NYIT’s de Seversky Mansion. It was the perfect combination of old world charm, elegance and beauty. On the day of, a quaint glass terrarium settled upon a rustic wooden table served to provide guests with custom programs and handkerchiefs for the ceremony. Behind the mansion, in a setting adorned with natural and lush florals, the ceremony was held underneath a towering linden tree. The couple recited custom vows, crafted by Collette McGuire from Ceremonies and Beyond, to one another before friends, family, and loved ones.

After a plentiful cocktail hour, guests were escorted into the dining room for a round of toasts presented in front of the large marble fireplace decorated with an assortment of candles. The room had a romantic & soft glow, each table lit intimately by a handful of votives. The centerpieces were lush and romantic, overflowing olive branches draped onto the shimmering linens. Anne Kilcullen from Blade Floral & Event Design truly transformed the space into one that was unimaginable and beyond the couples expectations. After dinner, the celebration moved towards a glass-enclosed porch which allowed for the stars above to act as the backdrop to the couple’s emotional first dance and the ensuing merriment. The guests had the freedom to congregate on the outdoor patio surrounding fire pits, indulging in the abundant dessert buffet, the cigar bar and the playful and entertaining photo booth.

From the beautiful Bride… With the endless guidance, advice and vision from Roey Mizrahi Events, everything fell perfectly into place. Her team was there the day of to ensure that the couple had the most amazing time and everything ran smoothly. Jen Huang Photography and McKenzie Miller Films beautifully captured all of the days moments from start to finish. This stellar team of vendors truly created the most magical day for Kristen & Chris, a day they have vocalized will be cherished forever and looked back upon with such fondness and swollen hearts.

I just wanted it to feel really warm and romantic without being too frilly. I also love classic elements but I didn’t want our wedding day to be too traditional. So I tried to mix the two with a soft and somewhat muted color scheme, really lush and romantic flowers, natural fiber linens, clean lines when it came too my dress and our stationery but then introduced some fun swirly calligraphy and of course lace. Our venue also helped capture that warm aura without feeling too vintage or too formal and stuffy. When everything came together, it was better than we could’ve imagined. I kept saying “I want our flowers to feel like an old English garden” and I think that’s exactly what Anne, our Florist accomplished, but it didn’t feel too casual thanks to our amazing & elegant venue!

Chic Brooklyn Brunch Wedding

Can brunch weddings become more popular please (aka I’d really love an invite!) as I’m crushing hard on every bit of this Brooklyn celebration. But besides some fab brunch food, what makes this wedding an immediate winner for me is the Bride’s fabulously fun jumpsuit she donned for her reception. Isabelle Selby photographed my new style hero in all her glory and this gallery has me downright giddy.

From the Bride… As brunch fanatics the timing of the day was very important for our Brooklyn wedding at the lovely Aurora. In planning we envisioned our wedding to be an intimate romantic restaurant wedding, with a modern twist and I’m happy to say that we achieved that and more. Despite the rain during the ceremony (good luck, right?) we took everything in stride and had a day we’ll never forget.

We did away with a large amount of wedding “traditions” in our planning because we wanted the day to reflect us all the way (no cake, no color schemes, no favors, no bridesmaids/groomsmen etc). The day was filled with great Italian brunch food, the beautiful vined background of Aurora and a small group of our family and friends. We also wanted to include as much family as possible to make it all the more special so Phil’s uncle provided brunch entertainment and Grandpa Ted officiated the ceremony. With just a Maid of Honor and a Best Man, our small wedding party was exactly how we wanted to honor our two siblings. We also passed champagne during the ceremony because the party needed to start as early as humanly possible and I think our guests were fans of this as well! Our family members danced down the aisle with sunglasses because we don’t take ourselves too seriously and I think we pulled off the fun wedding we had hoped for! We kept our guests entertained in true Brooklyn style by hosting a Friday night Pig Roast at Radegast Biergarten and a Sunday Funday event at Brooklyn Bowl so that we could spend the whole weekend with all of our guests. All in all it was a wonderful weekend with our friends and family that mean so much to us.

Elegant NYC Fall Wedding at 26 Bridge Street

I’ve proclaimed it before and I’m sticking with my statement; I adore autumn weddings. Fall is a theme that I wholeheartedly embrace; bring on the pumpkins, leaves and let’s sprinkle gold everywhere. Sarah Tew and Crown Street Productions captured every festive moment of this elegant affair – including Rebecca Shepherd Floral Design’s blooming beauties. Let’s love on fall and these cuties right this way!

From the Bride… From the moment we got engaged I knew we wanted a fall a wedding. But not just a wedding in the fall, what we really wanted was a wedding that made our guests feel like they stepped into a perfect fall day. Avi and I spent a long time searching for every one of our vendors and wanted to make sure each of them would help us to create an incredibly fun and relaxed day! When we first met with Rebecca Shepherd, we immediately clicked and I so loved her vintage-chic style. Together, we came up with the colors for wedding, teal, coral, peach, yellow and gold combined with other fall elements, pumpkins, leaves, etc. I asked her to combine those ideas along with her own unique style, and that was it! I always feel like you get the best results when you let amazingly creative people do their thing and we were so happy with the results. We especially loved our pumpkin escort card table!

Of course Avi was focused on the band from the beginning and when we went to go hear Dexter Lake Club Band it was magic, and I’m not exaggerating. We both got up from our seats in their studio and started dancing. We basically hired them on the spot.

From there things really fell into place, we met with Sarah Tew, and fell in love with her approach and her creative and colorful photography. We loved our engagement photos and were just so excited to get to work with her again at the wedding!!

We worked with the wonderful Chef Rossi of Raging Skillet to create at autumn themed menu filled with apples, pears, figs, and squash. I wanted to feed people things that I would want to cook and of course eat. We got so many compliments on Chef Rossi’s creative food, especially the one bite desserts!

As the wedding approached and the weather got colder, I started to get really excited about our fall themed wedding and began to gather things to help make the day more personal, more us.. We ordered menu cards, table numbers and bar menus. Again, gold, and leafy throughout. We came up specialty cocktails – an old fashioned for Avi, of course, and a pear bellini for me! We decided on maple syrup favors, keeping with the theme, plus we loved the idea that people could enjoy our favor after the wedding! Finally, in the weeks leading up to the wedding, we gathered vintage picture frames for a family photo table and last but not least a typewriter for our guest book table! I loved using Etsy to come up with creative ideas and found some of the most creative and wonderful people on that site! We especially loved our cake toppers, which I ordered to look like us, from Etsy!

Wedding Morning Bridal Suite Inspiration

While there are many parts of my upcoming wedding that I’m looking forward to, spending the morning with my favorite ladies is by far one of the most exciting. Love & Light Photographs captured this joy and the gorgeous gowns from Two Birds Bridesmaid and Gabriella New York just make it all even better. Between Sleep and Awake filmed the fun and this gallery has me more excited than ever.

From Love & Light Photographs… One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is the time spent getting ready with the bride in the morning. Chances are, your friends have traveled from near and far to be with you… and let’s face it – it’s the ultimate time to be a girls girl. Everyone is getting their hair and makeup done, champagne bottles are popping, and you are reminiscing about the old days – the days before you met the love of your life. This girl time is so special and I wanted to create a styled shoot with exactly that vibe. This super cool loft fit the bill with it’s modern yet rustic decor, tons of natural light, and a big farm table with lightbulbs strung over it to bring everyone together. Amy Kuschel’s chic gown from Gabriella Bridal was simply perfect for the scene, and I loved adding fun pops of color against the chambrays and blues that provided the backdrop. Anne of Blade NYC just GETS it. The bride’s bouquet is everything and I had so much fun photographing it in this chill yet chic environment. I hope it inspires brides to think about a special getting ready location that is meaningful to them. To take a second and cheers her favorite people in her life who ALWAYS have her back. To breathe a few deep breaths before walking down the aisle… hope you love!

Traditional Black + White Saratoga Springs Wedding

This elegant black + white affair kept tradition strong, while also incorporating beautiful modern details, like all-white florals with tons of texture, chic olive oil wedding favors, and gorgeous Jenny Yoo Bridesmaids’ gowns in a dramatic black chiffon. Lucky for us, 4 Eyes Photography captured it all, and shared it with us in the gallery here, so we can all soak up this fete’s sleek and elegant inspiration.

From the beautiful Bride… I met Jeremy within weeks of moving back to Saratoga. After spending nine years in Manhattan and having my father almost pass away of a stroke, I knew it was time for a change—it was time to move “home.” I met Jeremy within weeks of moving home. It was Friday night. It had been a hard week. It was the biggest dive bar in town. There was a lot working against Jeremy that night, but I had the best night I could remember in a long time. Since he didn’t have my phone number, two days later he asked me out on a real date via Facebook. He said the offer was “non-negotiable,” so I met him, and we have been together every day since. Better still—my dad loves him.

I had a feeling the proposal was coming, but he still caught me off guard. It was the week after Labor Day and we drove down to Greenport for a vacation. We couldn’t check into our hotel until 3pm, so we decided to take a wine tour at Raphael Vineyard and Winery. It was a chilly, rainy day, so we were the only ones on the tour. In fact, we virtually had the entire vineyard and winery to ourselves! Following the tour, we could walked down to the vineyard to take pictures. I’m usually the one taking the pictures, but somehow Jeremy talked me into handing the camera over so he could take a few of me. I remember walking through the grapes in the misty air, feeling so grateful for Jeremy and that day. When I turned around he was on one knee.

Having grown up in Saratoga, and now having our home, offices and church within a 10-block radius of downtown, we wanted our family and closest friends to experience downtown Saratoga and all of its incredible offerings. The beautiful historic Canfield Casino in Congress Park blended the history of our beloved town, along with the downtown location we desired. Plus, since our dogs couldn’t be with us at the reception, the location reminded us all of the walks we had taken them on in the park and made us feel closer to them.

My style has always been clean, natural and minimalistic. Since the venue itself is very ornate, I wanted to keep the integrity of the venue while staying true to my personal style by keeping the color palette white and monochromatic. White, glass vases filled with single arrangements of white tulips, ranunculus, nerine lilies and mini calla lilies on top of white crinkle linens kept the look clean and updated. Additionally, it was it was really important to me incorporate personal touches to the décor so that the day felt personal. We had Q&A napkins during cocktail hour so that guests could get to know quirky facts about us, a specialty cocktail, “The Non-negotiable,” paying tribute to the date that made all of the difference, and a sprig of rosemary on each place setting, serving as a symbol of love and a nod to our love for nature.

In some respects tradition is important to us, while on the other hand, we are not at all traditional. While we had a full catholic mass and a sit down reception, the traditions ended there. I was completely against being announced at the reception (or anything else that drew attention to me), but came up with the perfect workaround that left me feeling comfortable and our guests being amused—Jeremy announced the bridal party! He had the time of his life, and it was one of my favorite parts of the reception! Also, I was completely against cutting a cake cutting, but knew our mother’s really wanted it, so I let them cut the cake. Guests couldn’t stop laughing as they fed each other the cake!

Since our favorite times are with family and friends around the dinner table, we thought it was only fitting to provide guests with individual bottles of Saratoga Olive Oil to enjoy at home with their loved ones !

Romantic Brooklyn Winery Summer Wedding

Fresh florals, rustic and minimalistic tablescapes, and plenty of red wine set the scene at this romantic Brooklyn Winery wedding. It’s difficult to choose, but my favorite modern detail might be that macaroon tower… Yum! Cody Raisig captured every delicious detail in the gallery here, so take a peek!

From Photographer Cody Raisig … We wanted our wedding to be different than the weddings we’ve been to. The groom resides in Brooklyn, and we wanted to do it in an upcoming part of the city. We wanted the venue to be urban, rustic and modern, and we found that in the Brooklyn Winery.    We still had a few D.I.Y. projects left the night before the wedding, so we found ourselves with glue guns in our hands, finishing up a large re-purposed window that was used for the table assignments. Other last-minute craft projects the night before the wedding included placement cards and tying name tags to bottles of wines, which were used as wedding favors. The bridal gown was a slim and satin dress by Theia. It was open back and modest but a little revealing. The bride’s hair piece was from Twigs and Honey. The bridesmaids dresses were blush twist wrap dresses from Dessy, which were great because each bridesmaid could choose her own style. The cake was a macaroon tower from Vendome NYC. We just sent them a photo of our invitation and venue so they could match the colors.  This was a hit with our guests.

Elegant Spring Wedding at the Tarrytown House

This dynamic duo threw a stunning soiree filled with a mix of traditionally romantic pieces, (hello, full-skirted gown and cathedral-length veil!) and distinctively modern details, like the Groom’s sockless Givenchy dress shoes and Bride’s Valentino Rockstud pumps. Take a peak at the stylish gallery here — perfectly captured through Lindsay Madden Photography‘s lens — and prepare to swoon!

From Lindsay Madden PhotographyOn a beautiful spring day, Sarah and Evan were married in front of their closest family and friends at Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington, New York. Shortly after their ceremony, we traveled to the Tarrytown House for portraits. We found a beautiful nook with gorgeous, natural light {my favorite!} and I was able to capture so many timeless and heartfelt moments between the newlyweds. Sarah looked absolutely breathtaking in her Romona Keveza dress (it had pockets too!) and Valentino shoes while Evan’s classic look was made up of a custom tux and Givenchy shoes. Sarah’s bridesmaids’ looked so elegant in their navy Jim Hjelm dresses. Sarah’s cascading bouquet was filled with ivy and garden roses in peach and ivory. It was stunning! Sarah’s mom spent a year collecting different white milk glass vases which were the reception centerpieces. Each vase was filled with beautiful garden roses and small votive candles provided the warm and romantic ambiance. Sarah, Evan and their guests all danced the night away thanks to the talented Live Wire band.

Lower Manhattan Casual Engagement

When the Bride-to-be is an editor at Women’s Wear Daily, you know the style bar is going to be set high. Add in a handsome beau plus adorable pup and you’ve got an engagement sesh captured by Amy Carroll that’s one for the books. A pair of too-cute-for-words shoes and gorgeous hair and makeup by StyleSeat are the cherries on top of this NYC lovefest.

From The Bride…Jake and I met our freshman year at Alma College in Michigan and have been inseparable ever since. He’s a country boy at heart and even agreed to move to New York City with me when I was accepted into graduate school at NYU. (Now that is love!) Last August when we decided to move to Long Island, he asked if we could take some photos with the skyline in the background since we would soon be ‘burbanites. We were under the giant Pepsi sign in Long Island City and it was taking him forever to set up the camera on the tripod and get the perfect angle. He finally came and stood by me, and as I smiled, waiting for the self-timer to go off, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. It was the happiest moment of my life, and he got bonus points for having the camera on video so the whole thing is recorded.

We are getting married back home in Michigan at Greencrest Manor, so we wanted something completely different for our engagement pictures. Luckily, our fabulous photographer, Amy Carroll, had a trip to New York planned, so it worked out perfectly. We decided on lower Manhattan because it was the first place we lived in New York and really felt like home. In fact, The Metro in some of our photos was our first apartment building.

Jake is letting me run wild with the wedding planning, so I wanted to make sure the engagement photos were representative of both of our styles. (Hence, the flannel!) We also had to include our dog, Asti, in some of the pictures. Yes, we are those crazy dog parents. We had so much fun traipsing around the financial district for this shoot and it makes me even more excited for our wedding—but mostly for building our life together afterward.

Chic Fall Brooklyn Winery Wedding

What is it about the Brooklyn Winery that always makes for the coolest wedding backdrop? It’s played host to some of our favorite “I dos” to ever hit the SMP pages, but this particular day planned by Roey Mizrahi Events is guaranteed to give any NYC wedding a run for its money. Captured by Clean Plate Pictures, it’s the urban indoor affair done oh-so-right.

From Clean Plate PicturesJessi and Michael’s big day was the best possible way to end my wedding season. Not only are they the sweetest couple, but they also got married at the Brooklyn Winery, which is one of my favorite venues. Everything was perfect from the beautiful flowers to the cute cakes to the music; the Howard Fishman band is fantastic! So glad I got to spend the day with these two lovebirds and their wonderful friends and family.

From the Bride… Growing up, I never dreamed about the wedding. If anything, I worried more about avoiding becoming a “perfect wedding” obsessive than I did about the day itself. So when the time came, Michael and I agreed on two basic things: we wanted our ceremony to feel low key and relaxed, and we wanted to work with people who were sweet and nice. We lucked out and ended up finding an amazing location and an incredible team.

The first important piece that fell into place was identifying Brooklyn Winery as our venue. We’d been looking at places in and around the city and nothing was quite right. One night I was in deep Google mode and noticed pictures of a beautiful place right in Williamsburg that I hadn’t seen on any lists. It was cozy and rustic and as soon as we walked in, we knew we wanted to get married there. They were a one stop shop for venue, catering and decor – all we’d need to find were a florist, a photographer and music. Brian, the co-owner, and Jessica, the in-house event planner, went out of their way at every step to make us feel special. I really can’t say enough good things about them (or their awesome fried chicken.)

I stumbled upon Amy Gardella of Seaport Flowers one afternoon as I was stopping into her shop just to pick up a bouquet for my apartment. She was in the midst of getting a wedding out the door (but was somehow still giving every customer lots of attention) and I immediately loved her simple but gorgeous style.
We found our great photographer Erica just by looking around the internet at pictures we loved. In addition to having a great eye she also has the perfect “wedding-side manner” for dealing with nervous brides and grooms. She gently gave us super helpful suggestions (like convincing us we’d really want to get a “first look” shot of Michael coming to meet me after I was dressed and glammed. It’s one of our fave photos.)

Our superb wedding planner Roey Mizrahi kept every train running perfectly on time and somehow managed to get us and our explosion of wedding stuff and personal items through the day. The final bit of magic was getting Howard Fishman, one of our favorite Brooklyn musicians, to play us down the aisle. His albums were an important part of our romance and it meant so much to be able to have him there.

Elegant Manhattan Fall Wedding

Guys, I think this wedding might just be the ultimate New York City fall wedding. Walking hand in hand through Central Park and the city streets, Charlotte Jenks Lewis Photography managed to capture every little laugh and look from this happy couple, though we’d like to take an extra moment to admire the Bride’s stunning sapphire ring. Gorgeous right?! Click here to see the rest of the gallery!

From The Bride…Curtis is from New York, and I’m from Colorado, but we met in New York City through mutual friends. We got engaged in Colorado, but we knew that we wanted to get married in New York City, where we met and fell in love. We wanted our wedding to have a really timeless, classic New York feel. The Union Club was the perfect spot, with its ideal location, beautiful decor and hundreds of years of history. We booked our venue and our band, Hank Lane Music (we knew we wanted to have a rockin’ dance party!), before we even found our wedding planner.

We hoped that our wedding would feel warm and inclusive, especially since so many of our guests would be traveling. We also wanted to make sure that our guests experienced the best of New York, so we incorporated little New York touches like favors from Momofuku Milk Bar, and welcome bags filled with our favorite New York treats. I cannot say enough good things about the team at JZ Events, especially our planner, Shana, who was 8 months pregnant on the day of our wedding and still bustled my dress like a pro. They made sure everything was absolutely perfect, and we didn’t have to worry about one thing on our wedding day, besides having a wonderful time.

We wanted to keep our palette simple, so we chose navy blue and white with lots of white and blush florals and tons of candles both in the ceremony room and in our reception room. I loved the idea of a romantic, intimate candlelit ceremony, followed by a classy and glamorous black tie reception. Liza at Peartree truly made all of my Pinterest dreams come true, I gasped when the doors opened and I saw the ceremony room for the first time. Our invitations and ceremony and reception paperie were from Alpine Creative Group. We chose a simple design that matched our navy blue color palette. Our cake was by Nine Cakes, and Betsy made us an adorable bicycle cake topper since we love to cycle.

When choosing our attire for the wedding, we wanted to stick with a classic New York, black tie theme, and what says classic better than Vera Wang and Valentino? My shoes were Jimmy Choo and my unbelievable earrings (which I sadly had to return at the end of the night) were Penny Preville. My shrug was from Rent the Runway. Our bridesmaids wore navy dresses from J. Crew; each girl chose her own style so that she would feel comfortable. Styles on B did our hair and Pucker did our makeup – all of the girls said that they felt so beautiful, like the best versions of themselves. Our photographer, Charlotte Jenks Lewis, did such a breathtaking job capturing all of our favorite moments from day.

Romantic Fall Wedding in the Hamptons

This Bride entered the planning process with a goal: she wanted her wedding to be like a “mullet,” serious in the front, party in the back. And that m’dears, might just be the best wedding goal I’ve ever heard. With Daughter of Design and Rock Paper Scissors Events at the helm, this goal was achieved, with an elegant cocktail hour in the front lawn, followed by an epic 80’s dance party to end the night in the backyard. Ira Lippke Studios captured both sides and these pics are practically bursting with pure joy.

From Rock Paper Scissors Events… As a professional you aren’t really supposed to have “favorites,” but… sometimes you just do and this wedding was definitely one of my favorite weddings because it just had the perfect mix of fun, elegance and the unexpected. First, a seriously cool couple: they met in Thailand at a Full Moon party, and their second date was a weekend trip to Atlantis. Plus they are both surgery residents, and yet somehow manage to have a ton of hobbies and make time to travel the world together on their breaks.

Second, you know you are in for a treat when the bride tells you at your first consultation that she wants the wedding to be like a “mullet”: serious in the front, party in the back. The wedding was held at the groom’s dad’s home in the Hamptons, and the couple took the mullet inspiration to have an elegant cocktail party on the front lawn as guests arrived with a jazz band, and a killer 80’s dance party in the backyard, including a midnight swim where all of the guests jumped in fully clothed! You know it’s a good party when the 80’s cover band that you hired is having so much fun with you that they don’t want to leave and stay on to do an impromptu late night sing-along inside the house on the piano.

Design wise, we took a lot of inspiration from the couple. We brought in their medical careers with the apothecary designed escort card table and “prescription” guest book. The Full Moon theme of the party where they met was carried out in the custom invitations, date of the wedding, metallic color palette, and disco ball dance party. Hydrangeas were a dominant flower to harmonize as a common flower of the Hamptons. They had a beautiful Jewish ceremony with personalized vows that made everyone laugh and cry.

Even for someone who does this a lot, it was a magical weekend, the party of a lifetime, though for these two, I have a feeling that the magic has just begun.
