Classic + Elegant New York City Wedding at The Bowery Hotel

Nothing says downtown glamour quite like New York City’s The Bowery Hotel—it’s the perfect backdrop for a classic Manhattan wedding, and this gorgeous Bride and Groom took full advantage of that with help from Daughter Of Design. Add in a portrait session in Madison Square Park, and this chic day is truly something special. See all the captured by Karen Hill Photography and NST Pictures in THE VAULT!

From Karen Hill PhotographyClassic elegance at this NYC wedding, filled with love and inspiration! I think the cake described it all.

Lucy and Alex both grew up in and around New York. They met seven years ago at Washington University in St. Louis, and have spent the majority of their relationship living happily together in the City That Never Sleeps. They wanted their wedding to feel timeless, romantic, and above all, very New York. They searched long and hard to find the perfect venue and were so happy to secure their date at The Bowery Hotel. The Bowery has such a unique and beautiful aesthetic with its medieval/moroccan feel, Lucy and Alex knew they wouldn’t have to do much besides enhance what was already there. They chose their colors and decor to compliment both the feel of the venue and the early summer season: the greens and blush pinks brought out the beauty of the lush velvet curtains, terracotta floors, and the gorgeous blooms outside.

For the reception they chose long tables spanning the entire length of the hall, floral arrangements of varying heights, and lots and lots of candles. The dancing took place after dinner in an adjoining room with the beautiful green tile fireplace as a backdrop. Guests danced until the very end and the amazing Silver Arrow Band certainly left them wanting more! A final treat before the exodus to the after-party was the delicious Momofuku Milk Bar cake, topped with a very special Bunny and Bear.

Simple + Romantic Summer Wedding in the Adirondacks

This lakeside wedding is totally to-die-for. From the bridesmaids’ gorgeous Plum Pretty Sugar robes and pretty pink and white flowers to the breathtaking ceremony on the lake and the classic tented reception, this day is definitely a dream. Add to all of that the natural beauty of the Adirondacks and Michelle Lange behind the lens, for wedding perfection. See the whole day in THE VAULT!

From The Bride… Simple and romantic is the best way to describe our wedding inspiration. We love hiking and skiing in the Adirondacks, and knew the gorgeous scenery of Lake George would be the perfect setting. We were incredibly lucky to have such a perfect, bluebird day. Since we had a June wedding, we went with a pink, champagne, and navy color scheme, with lots of pops of pink and white flowers. To me, pink peonies are one of the most whimsical wedding flowers, I used them as frequently as I could!

Caleb knew that he wanted a hand hammered rose gold wedding band from the beginning. We searched for months and couldn’t find what he wanted, so we had it custom made at a local shop in Hoboken. Since my engagement ring was my grandmother’s and vintage, I had an impossible time matching bands to it… and I loved Caleb’s so much that he had a second band made for me to match!

Seeing each other before the wedding during our First Look was an absolutely incredible experience. It was so nice to have a special moment to ourselves before the ceremony and reception with friends and family. Later on, the DJ ended up playing a faster version of our father-daughter dance song, but we improvised… and it ending up being an incredibly fun and memorable moment with my dad.

To future brides and grooms, enjoy every single moment of your wedding, and just go with the flow – it all goes by too fast! A sincere and heartfelt thank you to our families, bridal party, and friends for all of their love and support, and a huge thank you to our vendors, especially our photographer Michelle for such outstanding work.

Modern NYC Pop-Up Elopement on the High Line

For these city-dwellers, NYC’s Highline possesses more than just magnificent views. For it was at this exact attraction where they held their pop-up ceremony! A wonderfully intimate affair from the lens of Fairytale Studio high above the city streets proves to be infinitely romantic, but we’ll let you be the judge. See every second of love captured by Jennifer Sosa in THE VAULT!

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/V_JNZD_73Ro 600 338]

From GrizzooWe tied the knot this summer in a progressive New York downtown fashion – with a pop-up ceremony on the High Line. The bride Liz, an animal-loving Kindergarten teacher, had wanted a super small elopement with just immediate family present. I, the groom, an art director in advertising and an event planner, wanted to do something uniquely personal and awesome. So we had a guerrilla pop-up wedding followed by a wave of celebrations afterwards.

Since Liz is a school teacher, she only wanted to get married over the summer. We started our planning 6 months before. We got officially engaged just 4 months before the wedding, with a surprise pop-up gallery (overlooking the High Line).

Our wonderfully intimate wedding ceremony was on the High Line Park in New York City – our first date spot from 2 years ago. (She actually didn’t know it realize that she was on a date, even after we spent a few hours at night hanging out on the High Line talking…but that’s another story.) The High Line will lets people get married there. You just have to let them know in advance, have under 20 people present, and can’t block off space from the public. So we knew that there would be a lot of tourists and strangers bearing witness to our vows!

We had two get ready rooms at the Standard Hotel overlooking the High Line. Our plan was to try to beat the crowds and have a 9am wedding. Well that didn’t happen as planned, as we finally had our ceremony at 11am after some prolonged getting ready time. We made our way to our planned spot, a tree covered scenic corner on the 10th Street Square part of the High Line. There were benches, beautiful foliage, and a view of the overlook of the High Line. It really was the perfect blend of city and nature. With an official gathering of just immediate family and a couple of friends, the audience swelled to include about 40 tourists and bystanders. The ceremony was officiated by Jon Tyson, pastor of Trinity Grace Church Midtown. Our two grandmothers were our flower girls who carried green floral garlands for each side of the family to hold during the ceremony.

The bridal march song, “Stick Together,” was an original and personally commissioned song by NYC singer songwriter Mara Measor. Mara sweetly performed the song live with her ukulele and her indie folk style. She wrote this song based on our personal journal entries of our dating relationship. (This song was used first for our proposal on Ultimate Pi Day, to the complete surprise to Liz!)

The bride wore a Maggie Sottero dress with Lucky Brand flats. The groom’s attire was a blue tuxedo by Hugo Boss, a Ted Baker thin floral branches black tie and blue derby shoes, a Grand Frank floral pocket square, a John Varvatos square dot shirt, and a Tie Bar floral lapel pin.

Our celebration continued on from a Chelsea garden patio reception lunch (Bottino) with the immediate family and friends who helped with the ceremony. Because it was a Friday luncheon, we were able to have the beautiful garden patio to ourselves. It was a wonderful and intimate time. Our wedding cake was an amazing Green Tea Mille Crepe Cake from Lady M (one of the best cakes to be found in NYC), and it was topped with two pigeon cake toppers which we found on Etsy. The lunch was a wonderfully casual and intimate time to celebrate.

Afterwards we stole some time away to hanging out with our two Australian Shepherds “Ozzy” and “Olive” in Soho at our pet-friendly wedding night stay at the Crosby Street Hotel. We chilled time in our hotel suite and on the rooftop garden then walked the fashionable and cobble stoned Crosby Street, where a street fashion photographer spontaneously snapped us for his blog (http://www.quistyle.com/archives/56160). We capped off the afternoon with an ice cream social at the nearby Morgenstern’s Ice Cream with local friends. (It’s our favorite ice cream spot in NYC! Right across the street is a street art mural that changes up every several weeks.)

After a private and classy start to the day, we cherished having these beautiful casual and fun moments for ourselves. We had plotted out our day to unfold like a fun roving musical video taking place in a lot of our favorite places and scenes.

That evening. we had a formal reception at Giando on the Water in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We titled our Alice In Wonderland themed party – “Curiouser & Curiouser! The Wonderland of Grizzoo.” It was nontraditional celebration in tune with our creative and unique tastes. Giando is a beautiful venue with a stunning waterfront patio which as a view of Manhattan between the two downtown bridges. It was the perfect spot for pictures with friends and family during cocktail hour. For a fun flourish to our group photos, we had some large 40″ metallic type balloons. They spelled out “Hooray” and “XOXO” to add some spirit and cheer to the scene. We added other fun touches of experience and decor – table mad libs, gold painted animals, Alice in Wonderland themed playing cards, art prints, and a Mad Hatter emcee. It was a fun and whimsical celebration.

Elegant + Vintage Parisian Wedding in Brooklyn

Some celebrations are so out-of-this-world elegant we kinda lose our chill. Take this darling duo and their 8 month post ceremony party at the Brooklyn Winery. Radiating beauty and old world glamour, we simply can’t get enough of this gallery goodness. It’s the type of love story that we’re beyond grateful to share, and thanks to Bia Sampaio it’s all waiting for you in THE VAULT!

From Bia Sampaio… Alyssa and Nic had a small and private courthouse wedding 8 months before they threw their gorgeous and vintage Parisian-inspired Reception Party. With only eight months to plan, they made a list of what was important to them: family and friends, good food, open bar, and great music. They accomplished that and much more.

From The Bride…We wanted to throw the kind of party we would want to go to, and we did exactly that. We live in Brooklyn, so we wanted to make sure everything took place in that borough to make it easier on not only us, but family who came in from out of town I knew I wanted a vintage-Parisian-vibe (deciding on the band early on helped focus that direction), and I knew I wanted to keep things simple. We’re both introverts, and it felt strange to be the center of attention to begin with, so we didn’t want to do the traditional moments typical at weddings. We quickly realized that, since this was our party, we didn’t have to do anything we didn’t want to!

Red is my favorite color (and Nic’s!) so I knew I wanted deep red incorporated into the event design. It was the wonderful team at Faye + Renee who suggested including some pale pinks to lighten everything up, and I’m so glad we did!

Brooklyn Winery already has a fantastic vintage/rustic feel, and I wanted to build on that with the rest of the design. I work in book publishing, so early on in the planning, I began collecting vintage French books in deep reds (all purchased through etsy.com). The books were used on the tables, and, in keeping with the theme, I also found a wonderful old set of wooden library card catalog drawers from the 1920s that we used as our card box. My original vision was based on the Woody Allen film, “Midnight in Paris”: Paris in the ‘20s with the “found” vibe of bohemian and vintage glamour. Brooklyn Winery’s dishes are all mismatched floral china found at antique shops, which perfectly matched my vision of “found” rustic.

In addition to the vintage French books I also found a lovely blue French sugar (“sucre”) tin that we used to hold pens for our guestbook. The guestbook itself was actually Paris in Love by Nichole Robertson: a photography book filled with photos of Paris all in reds. I also wanted to include portraits of my parents and Nic’s parents on their wedding day at the welcome table. This was important for me because my parents’ wedding anniversary was also August 9th, so I wanted to acknowledge that special occasion. Also, Nic’s father passed away about two years ago, and I wanted his presence represented at the party.

My dress was something I had been thinking about for a long time. I wanted something unexpected and completely unique. I knew I didn’t want to look Bridal. I wanted to be comfortable, and I wanted my dress to match the feel of the party: vintage and French. I found this one at Veka Bridal. They specialize in more alternative-looking wedding gowns. I wanted: blue, vintage-design, no train, comfortable, bateau neckline, and something just completely different from any other wedding dress I’d ever seen. At the reception, many guests actually asked me if my dress was vintage!

The band, The Avalon Jazz Band, was the highlight of the entire party. They really set the tone playing old standards and French jazz songs. I wanted to have a “first dance” with Nic (the only wedding tradition we did), and chose La Vie en rose because it’s such a romantic classic.

The ring was custom-designed by Anna Sheffield with a gorgeous 1.2 carat diamond is from Nic’s mom’s engagement ring.

Every cliché piece of advice you’ve heard is true: don’t sweat the small stuff, relax and enjoy yourself, and remember what you’re really celebrating! Brooklyn Winery provided a day-of wedding coordinator, and that really helped me relax on the day because I didn’t have to worry about being our vendors’ only contact point. So, if you can, having a day-of coordinator is a big stress reliever. But if there’s one thing I would remind brides-to-be, it’s that as long as you’re reasonably organized, things will work out. Throw the kind of party you would want to attend.

SMP Bridal Week 2015: Pronovias

We kicked off the afternoon in the front row at the Pronovias runway; this Barcelona-based designer didn’t hold back when it came to showcasing the ultimate glamour and elegance, and lucky for us, Greg Finck was along for the adventure to snap all the style for us to go gaga over in our VAULT right here!

It wouldn’t be a trip to the Big Apple, much less during the hustle and bustle of Bridal Week without at least one proper pit stop to refuel. With hands wrapped around warm cups of coffee, we were able to regroup and chat all about our favorite looks so far (chic capes have taken ahold of my heart), and gush over all the new trends that we’re bound to see gracing the pages of SMP in the very near future.

We still have a bit more beauty to share so don’t miss our recap with the crazy talented Samuelle Couture coming up next!

SMP Bridal Week 2015: Amsale, Christos + Kenneth Pool

The only thing better than attending a show during bridal week is getting a backstage pass. And when that pass happens to be to The Amsale Group, let’s just say we were in heaven. Greg Finck (who captured all these gorgeous photos for #SMPBridalWeek) came along and snapped up the hustle before the big show and these shots are your exclusive inside look.

We’re just getting started – stay tuned for more behind the scenes snaps from the Pronovias show coming up next!

Elegant Black Tie Hamptons Beach Wedding

For starters, any wedding that involves a furry bundle of love is a winner in my wedding book. Add in that this stunning affair seamlessly married two backgrounds into one sweet interfaith ceremony, and you’ve got yourself one picture perfect day. It’s the ultimate celebration captured by Kelsey Combe Photography and it’s all waiting for you in THE VAULT!

From The Bride…After I graduated from Colgate in 2010, I moved to Manhattan with my college friend Nikki. Her boyfriend and his roommate, Billy – both also Colgate grads – started to “suggest” more and more roommate dinners and evenings together… and eventually I caught on to what those three were up to. It’s all a bit Melrose Place-y but in the best way possible. Billy and I are still close with these mutual friends and stood by their side as they married in 2013 (as they did for us last August). It’s worthy to note that they’ve since set up three couples to be married – talk about a hot streak!

Billy and I dated for three years during which we traveled to five continents, moved to Chicago for his MBA program, and grew our family with a spunky pup named Mollie. We all moved back to Manhattan after his grad school graduation in the summer of 2014, after which Billy led me back to the speak-easy where we shared our first official date to ask me to marry him. It was such a special evening filled with one last surprise – he had our friends and family waiting at another bar to share in the celebrations.

We set our hearts on a summer wedding out east on Long Island where we both have spent our summers since we were young. The Oceanbleu at Westhampton Bath and Tennis stood out as a perfect venue for us with its beautiful beach setting and spacious ballroom that could accommodate our 250+ guest list. Once we booked the club (and started praying for good weather for the next 365 days!), we laid out our vision for the weekend.

We were very aware that traveling to the East End of Long Island in August is no small feat. Because of this, we wanted to provide as much fun and merriment for all of our guests all weekend. Billy’s family hosted everyone for a beautiful evening of dinner and dancing at their home on the North Fork the night before our big day. Susan Martin of SMART Productions sourced stand-out North Fork vendors like Grace and Grit and Macari Wines, and she planned an epic dance party in our favorite college party theme to end the evening. The night brought our guests together under the stars in New Suffolk – what a special way to start the weekend.

Food and fun were our focus for Saturday’s celebrations; Robbin’s Wolfe caterers and The Village Cheese shop were perfect vendors for designing our event menu. Rosemary at the Cheese Shop was an outstanding partner and was as excited to assemble our cheese “cake” as we were – which, for any cheese lover, is a dream come true. We booked the Sultans as soon as we set our date, knowing their band’s sound and late-night DJ set were exactly what we wanted to keep our dance floor groovin’ all night.

Planning our ceremony took a bit more effort. Billy and I come from different faiths, both of which were quite important to our parents. We worked with our two officiants and families to develop an interfaith ceremony that reflected the most important parts of each religion. We included readings that were meaningful to Billy’s family with traditional Jewish wedding elements like the Ketubah, Chuppah, and stomping of the glass. Many thanks to Rabbi Steve Meltz and Pastor Eric Olsen for their help and support through our planning process; our guests continue to tell us how unique and inclusive our ceremony was.

Our vision for the event was to bring the black-tie, Manhattan aesthetic to this beachside setting. We did have quite a few folks to dress for the big day; we had 13 bridesmaids and groomsmen in honor of Colgate’s lucky number 13. To illustrate this style, bridesmaids wore flowing, french blue Amsale chiffon gowns while the guys sported sperry topsiders with their tuxes. Billy’s tuxedo was one of my favorite details — we worked with the team at My Suit in Manhattan to customize the perfect blue to match our color palette. Our florist Rori did a beautiful job developing the green, blue, and white floral tones for the event; I’m transported back to our wedding every time I now smell eucalyptus and freesia. My wedding gown (the Vivienne by Austin Scarlett) matched this aesthetic twist as well. The sleek, silk gown has a stunning (and dramatic!) train which flows in waves like the sea.

We could not have gotten through our wedding day without the help of our photographer, Kelsey Combe and our stylist, Allie O’Connor of Little Red’s Well. Managing such a large wedding party in black tie attire amongst the sand, sunshine, ocean breeze, and puppy paw prints was no small feat. Kelsey did an incredible job capturing the weekend’s events; we’ll cherish her beautiful photos for decades to come. Allie was such a help ensuring that we were on time and looking our best, and kept me smiling all the while. My advice to brides who are in the thick of planning would be to find vendors who you click with as friends ; it makes everything much more fun.

Thank you to our vendors for your time and effort in creating our events. You were a pleasure to work with and we’ll continue to recommend you to our friends and family. Finally, thank you to our parents, families and friends for an incredibly memorable weekend. We are so fortunate to have had you all at our side!

Romantic + Bohemian Chic Miller’s Nursery Wedding

In my book, there’s simply no better time of year than fall. It’s all my favorite things tied up into one season, and this wedding is a celebration of just that. Infused with boho vibes and cozy, autumn moments (think pre-ceremony cider, a darling apple dislay, and the cutest furry “guests” ever) it’s a post best enjoyed with #PSL in hand. Simply Beautiful Events planned, Lacie Hansen photographed, and we’re spending our afternoon in THE VAULT poring through every last bit.

Lauren and James grew up a couple miles away from each other in Rochester, New York and their families summered on the same Lake. Oddly they never crossed paths until the summer of 2008. While spending the summer in Washington D.C., they both attended a small dinner party thrown by a mutual friend. They immediately felt a deep connection as they talked until the early hours of the morning.

As the years past they dated for a time and kept in touch, developing a strong bond, but knew the timing wasn’t right. They were focused on their education, careers and finding their individuality. A couple of years ago their fate put them in the same city, and this time it was different, they both knew their love was meant to be and soon after they were engaged.

They immediately knew the location of the wedding; Miller’s Nursery on Canandaigua Lake was special place to them both. As a young girl Lauren would hike the wooded trails that open into a stunning clearing overlooking the lake. Lauren always dreamt of getting married in the field. Whenever she and James spent time at the Lake, they would hike the hills with their dog, Althea. They would rest at the top overlooking the lake and the place became as special to James as it was to Lauren.

When planning began, they hired Kelli Berg of Simply Beautiful Events, Lauren had a vision of what she desired and collaborated with her to make it all come together. When the wedding day came, as Lauren and James rode up to this special place they were stunned to see the most beautiful place in the world was made even more majestic. Lauren reflected “it was straight out of a fairy tale”. The ceremony was tucked into the walnut grove it had been transformed into a magical secret garden. Guests walked down a hand painted aisle and watched as Lauren and James were married under an arbor hanging with vines, hops, and botanicals. The ceremony was officiated by their close friend and the Bride’s cousin. It was truly the most special and perfect moment of their lives.

As the guests headed up the winding path to the reception tent, they passed goats, vineyards and apple orchards. They walked through the towering barn doors and passed a large fireplace. They stepped out on to a terrace overlooking the scenic lake and extraordinary fall foliage. They sipped on cocktails and prosecco from Lauren’s family’s vineyards in Tuscany, as the beautiful sun was setting the guest were asked to enter into the tent.

Inside the tent guests found trees, long tables covered in rich arrangements, and a thousand candles hanging from the clear tent ceiling. Lauren reflected, “It was like gazing at the beautiful starry night.” Behind the main bar was an 18’ installation of a glowing organic agate. Lauren and James are both art enthusiasts and embellished the walls with works by some of their favorite local artists such as Martine Lepore and Greg Gavin. The art was borrowed by Lauren’s favorite gallery run by a longtime family friend. Scattered throughout were unique pieces that Lauren had carefully hunted through the enormous gallery to find, including a beautiful stuffed peacock from the 1950s and an enormous Bill Stuart statue that reflected their unique taste in art. Every detail was uniquely them.

They both agree the night could not have been any more magical. It was beautiful, completely unique, and most importantly a blast.

Elegant Saratoga Springs Summer Wedding

Saratoga Springs has a special allure to it – this quiet, quaint upstate New York town comes alive in August and this darling duo tapped into that energy for their celebrations. With subtle but stylish nods to the town’s culture and plenty of prettiness from the bridesmaids to this gorgeous gown, Lindsay Madden captured it all for us to spend some quality time with in our VAULT right this way!

From the Bride… Brian and I wanted our wedding design to be a direct reflection of ourselves – a mix of our personal style with the vibe of the local environment. We considered a million different locations but in the end the decision was easy, a place that hit home for both of us – Saratoga Springs, NY. This is the town where I grew up and together we’ve spent a lot of time escaping our crazy, Manhattan lives. For those of you who don’t know Saratoga, it’s all about the horse racing. With the majority of our guests visiting for the first time, we had to give them the full Saratoga experience. So August it was, when the racing season kicks off and the little town is in full swing.

The summer time upstate is beautiful; we knew we needed an outdoor affair. In our design we wanted to portray the rich history and timeless elegance of Saratoga Springs with the rugged, raw beauty of the Adirondacks. Locally made, reclaimed wooden farm tables were brought in for dining; blue glass Saratoga water bottles helped our guests find their tables; a vintage lawn jockey and directional sign of cities that have impacted our lives greeted guests before the ceremony. A tree was even planted on the golf course in memory of my Dad, so that he could be there with us throughout our special day. Stylish Brooklyn Wedding at the Prospect Boathouse

Elegant and timeless yet filled with personality, this Prospect Park Boathouse wedding captured by CLY BY MATTHEW is the kind we can’t get enough of here at SMP. It’s a wedding where, by the time you’ve scrolled through all the gorgeous images, you feel like you really know this couple, and you want to be their best friend. It’s filled with style and love, and it’s all waiting for you here.

From The Bride…When planning my wedding there were two non-negotiables: It had to be outdoors and there had to be dancing. I was partial to the Prospect Park Boathouse before I even saw it, because it was one of the few venues where it was possible to have a dance floor outdoors. When I saw the beautiful historic building, I began to draw inspiration for the wedding style. The pond, the bridge, big outdoor lamp posts, barrel vaulted ceiling prompted me to think of a 1920s French-style theme (think the Midnight in Paris movie), with a cellist and violinist, pale pink flowers, mercury candles and bridesmaid dresses with a little bit of a sheen. I chose my dress because it’s today’s version of the ballerina dress that has been around since the 15th century. I accessorized the dress with my grandmother’s pearl earring and necklace set. For his suit, Brian went all modern with inspiration from Tom Ford (big lapels, big bowtie) and sunglasses designed by one of his friends.

Honoring my Persian/Iranian heritage was important as well as Brian’s, so we chose to set up a sofreh aghd (a traditional table set for ceremonies in Iran) and have a rector from Brian’s K-8 school (St. Richard’s Episcopal School) officiate the ceremony. DJ McElfresh – one of Brian’s favorite DJ’s from Indiana – spun at the wedding.

We placed photos from our families on the card table, and one was a photo of my dad when he was six years old, surrounded by my great aunts, uncles and grandfather.

The result was a designs and relics from a lot of different eras and places, but if I had to pick a theme, it would be if someone time traveled back to the 1920s, became inspired by architecture, made a stop in Hamadan 1940s to pick up a photo and some jewelry, and came into the modern times.

Elegant + Modern Summer Wedding in New York City

Katie Osgood Photography captures the kind of weddings that make you feel good. Her secret? Amazing vendors (we’re looking at you Unique Visions StudiosDM Events Planning And DesignFacetime Beauty, and Magnolia Photo Booth Co.) + one unforgettable NYC backdrop = undeniable happiness. It’s the type of beauty only attainable in THE VAULT, and lucky for you we’ve got it all waiting to share!

From DM Events… We loved working on Kate and Sam’s wedding! They were super laid back and wanted their big day to be equal parts fun and stylish… music to our ears! They were fans of Studio 450, a blank canvas (aka a designer’s dream!), which gave us the perfect opportunity to create a custom design that felt relaxed, sensible and sophisticated.

The ceremony took place on the roof, and when New York City is your backdrop, not much else is needed! The inherent design of the venue is white on white so we warmed it up a bit with touches of wood, gold and lush greenery, along with hundreds (not kidding!) of candles adding that soft amber glow we all love!

Guests enjoyed a family-style fete by the uber talented catering team KG Fare. The Southside, the couple’s signature cocktail featuring gin, lime, mint and simple syrup, was poured generously throughout the night and was a huge hit. The couple opted for Momofuku’s infamous naked cake that was not only beautiful to look at, but also delicious! With so many delights for the refined palate, we totally loved that Kate surprised Sam at the end of the night with his favorite NYC treat: a Gray’s Papaya King food truck! It was a perfect way to end a perfect night!

Moody Alder Manor Fall Wedding

It’s not every day we see a dark and moody wedding day done so very right, and you better believe we’ll be staring at this indoor beauty designed by Ever Swoon for a good, long while. Dressed up with shades of maroon and gold at the elegant Alder Manor, it’s all the feelings of autumn rolled up in one gallery by Jen Huang. Right this way for SO much more.

From Jen HuangA moody yet romantic wedding at Alder Manor. Andria and Clifford reside in Hong Kong but chose to celebrate with their close friends and families at this antiquated manor. Shadowy florals and dark shades or maroon appeared throughout the decor. Andria wore an non-traditional gown in a cafe au lait tone with a bit of sparkle.

The couple was married outdoors but guests were ushered into a wood paneled ballroom for dinner amongst tall candelabras. A rare indoor wedding with beautiful light and tones.

Tea Time and Macarons with Ladurée Soho

The second you step into one of Ladurée’s boutiques or tea rooms, you instantly feel as if you were transported into Sofia Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette.” Decorated in dreamy pastels, ornate French Baroque furnishings and sprinkled with the most decadent and delicious pastries, Ladurée is how I picture heaven. With Rebecca Yale behind the lens and Mrs. Ladurée, Elisabeth Holder, on hand, we captured the French maison‘s magic—read about the brand below and take a peek in THE VAULT!

From Ladurée… The story of the Ladurée macaron began in the mid-20th century with Pierre Desfontaines, second cousin of Louis Ernest Ladurée, who had the delicious idea of creating a double macaron, two simple macaron shells joined in the middle by a luscious filling.

This small delicacy, crunchy on the outside and meltingly creamy on the inside, is meticulously prepared. Almond powder, eggs, sugar and a pinch of unequalled savoir-faire are essential to the successful realization of this recipe, ensuring that every macaron has this delicate balance of flavor and texture.

Every new variation meets the standards of previous creations, with an effort to diversify flavors and colors, since color is an important element in the macaron’s power of seduction.

The Soho Tearoom, the first in the United States, offers several salons of exceptional character, each with its own decorative ambiance, in the Ladurée style. All the rooms are decorated with custom-made furniture and unique pieces, collected from the finest Parisian antique shops. The mood is decidedly feminine, combining the history of decorative arts and French art de vivre.

The boutique’s main sales counter is made entirely of pristine white marble, the center stage for all of Ladurée’s sweet temptations. From macarons to freshly made pastries, the comptoir features all of Ladurée’s irresistibly unique creations A large, elegant bookcase, like a “cabinet of curiosities,” showcases the exquisite boxes sought after by gourmets all over the world. And nearby, of course, are the spools of ribbon, delicately unwinding silky lengths of rustling satin, the final touch on a precious Ladurée gift.

Inside the Madeleine Castaing Salon, named for the French interior designer and muse of the Napoleon III style, The furnishings of the salon are a combination of Napoléon III and neoclassical styles. Two magnificent ceiling chandeliers draped in blue silk diffuse a soft light over small guéridon tables in black wood, and cozy little Napoléon III armchairs upholstered in midnight blue velvet. All are accented by silk passementerie trimmings and textiles chosen in honor of the famous Parisian shop at 21 rue Bonaparte, now occupied by Ladurée.

The next salon, The Pompadour Salon, the décor resembles a formal salon where one can imagine Madame de Pompadour inviting poets to read at her court, with all her ladies in waiting, discussing the latest roman. Guests settle comfortably into small banquettes or large old-fashioned armchairs, covered with striped and floral textiles in tones of blue, green and dusty rose. Gourmet moments naturally harmonize with the décor: a pistachio Réligieuse, or a rose-flavored Saint Honoré blend perfectly with the room. All the decorative elements evoke the charm, gentility and romanticism of a private home, giving this salon all the elegance of the 18th-century style.

Finally, the garden. In clement weather, guests are welcome to our very special cherry blossom tree-shaded garden, lulled by the chirping of birds and the gentle rippling of the fountain. In this calm haven, far from the noise of the city, one can taste all of the specialties of Ladurée’s menu.

Romantic NYC Anniversary Session

This sweet shoot was originally planned for Paris, but due to work logistics, ended up in the Big Apple. Inspiration was shifted to the ever chic Carrie Bradshaw and I must say, despite the location switcheroo, the finished results are magnifique! Le Secret D’Audrey brought her Parisian flair to the streets of Manhattan and these pics have warmed my heart – see them all in our VAULT right here!

From Le Secret D’Audrey… PC and Kenny contacted me for an anniversary shoot in Paris which we were excited to plan together but due to a last minute change they couldn’t come to Paris. Because I travel a lot, within 10 days we were able to meet at sunrise in NYC for a photo shoot around the streets of Manhattan.

From the Bride… We turn 5 in December and I wanted to commemorate this mini milestone anniversary of our marriage with a photo shoot. Originally, we were supposed to travel to Paris and I decided on Audrey as the photographer of choice rather instantly as I have been a fan of her work. In addition, it was the perfect location as we honeymooned in Paris. Us, captured in frames, Eiffel Tower in the background, along the Seine River, Parisian cafe. That was the plan. However, Kenny had to travel for work and we were bound for New York and Boston instead. To my delight, fate intervened! Audrey told me she would be in New York and for a day only. It was meant to be… as it happened to be the day we were departing back to Singapore on a late flight. A sunrise shoot was arranged and the rest they say is history…

We had such a lovely time together with Audrey working her magic behind the lens. Even my husband admitted to enjoying the photoshoot which is not something a lot of men would attest to! I didn’t have any theme in mind but I knew I wanted to be in tulle which led me to be inspired by the SATC series and this influenced my outfit and the shoot venues. Carrie in tulle and her black hat, Carrie in the West Village. We shot at Perry Street which is the film location of the exterior of her apartment, Carrie at the Brooklyn Bridge and of course, Carrie with her Mr Big.

Intimate + Whimsical Lake Placid Wedding

Halfway into their engagement, these cuties returned to square one, starting anew, planning a celebration that truly represented them, and I’m so glad they did, because these finished results make my heart happy. Their closest friends and family (and one furry pup) celebrated in Lake Placid, with a relaxed, yet still super special, elegantly whimsical affair, with bright blooms by Fleurtacious Designs. Tracey Buyce captured every bit – don’t miss all the colorful confetti in our VAULT right this way!

From the Bride… Officially Brian and I met three summers ago: I was back home for the summer, working at the local college where Brian worked full-time. We like to think, though, that our paths first crossed many, many years ago: my grandfather was Brian’s elementary school principal, and it was not unusual for me to visit my grandfather at work when I was very young.

Brian and I are both former college athletes who’ve had a hard time giving up competition. When we began dating Brian was training for the Lake Placid Ironman and I was trying to qualify for the New York City Marathon. Our first “date” was literally a race – I asked Brian to help pace me to a personal best in the 5k, and we’ve been running together ever since. We fell in love, as runners do, over thousands of miles shared, from back country roads in interior Maine to loops on the Bridle Path in Central Park. A little over a year later, Brian proposed on the same street corner as that race’s starting line.

Initially, we planned a long engagement and a huge wedding (in my hometown, in an historic ballroom with 250 guests). We both have big, unusually close-knit families. But as the planning wore on, Brian and I both realized that a big wedding wasn’t really what we wanted. We both dislike pomp and circumstance. I had bought a big, dramatic gown that was beautiful but really made me feel like I was a kid playing dress-up. Nine months into an eighteen-month engagement we returned to square one: We reimagined everything, right down to our venue. We wanted something intimate, intentional, and meaningful, as reflective as these things can be of us as a couple.

On our third or fourth date we drove up to Lake Placid to do a sprint triathlon. The race didn’t go well (Brian biked five miles in the wrong direction and I got a flat tire), but we both would later say that that day was the one where we knew. We decided to get married at the Lake Placid Lodge, right on the shores of Lake Placid with sweeping views of the Adirondack Mountains. We wanted to return the focus of the day to the wedding itself, the actual business of getting married (rather than the party). To that end, we decided to do just a small ceremony and dinner party (no dancing, no DJ). We trimmed the guest list to just 34 people (family and five friends who might as well be family). I am a writer (and come from a family of writers) and so the crafting of the ceremony was extremely important to me; our friend, Allison (also a writer) officiated (her first wedding!) with unparalleled grace and wisdom, and we chose readings by Mary Oliver and Charles Schultz (my grandfather was a lifelong Peanuts reader). I bought a new dress that was not really a dress at all (a skirt by Catherine Deane from BHLDN and a low-back silk-jersey ballet tank by Carol Hannah). I told my bridesmaids to choose their own dress in a roughly-coral shade. Our flowers were lush, asymmetrical, and organic – perfectly in step with the unfussy, laid-back feel of the evening. We ate at long farm tables, al fresco, on a veranda overlooking the lake, and at the start of dinner opened poppers – a family tradition at holidays. We put on the silly paper crowns and read to one another the pun-filled riddles and laughed and laughed. The Lodge made a bonfire and we gave out, as favors, s’mores kits and roasted marshmallows under the stars.

July 31, 2015 – as it turned out – called for a blue moon, a rare lunar event. In the middle of dinner – as if on cue – we watched the moon rise, oversized and glowing, over the mountains beyond the lake. We are a family who has family dinners, and this was one of the very best.

From Fleurtacious Designs… Emily came to me with a vision of a natural, whimsical wedding decor, of greenery, textures designed in tones of coral and peach. We chose blooms of juliet and white ohara garden roses, free spirit roses, petite spray roses, begonias, ferns, eucalyptus and more! The ceremony decor of the garland under the moose head was just the right touch and the floral accents on the rustic chairs couldn’t have been more ideal. The intimate family style table seating just over thirty guests was romantic with the flowing arrangements and candlelight!

Chic 1970’s Themed Wedding Inspiration

I probably should share a little disclaimer: I DIE for floppy hats. I’m obsessed; they instantly up your chic factor in seconds. It’s no surprise then that I fall for any 1970’s style inspiration, so this shoot by Alicia Swedenborg is right my alley, with bold makeup by Facetime Beauty Concierge and on point pieces from Two Of A Kind Rentals. From Two Of A Kind Rentals… We chose Weylin B. Seymour’s as the backdrop for this energetic 1970’s styled shoot because of its built-in charm. A venue the New York Times calls “as sumptuous as a jewel box suspended 110 feet over the mosaic marble floor, the great dome inspires awe.” We agree!

The color palette and design details seen throughout the shoot are inspired by the 1970’s era and include beautiful golden tones (such as yellow, orange and gold), cascading florals, bold makeup, daring necklines, floppy hats and more!

Thanks to Alicia Swedenborg for capturing all of the beautiful photos from this styled shoot!

Our bride wore two gowns for her big day, both provided by Kleinfeld Bridal. The first ivory gown was a plunging neckline stunner including a bow placed at the bride’s waist. It matched the bride’s white floppy white hat she wore outside the venue. The second gown was a beaded, long sleeve gown in ivory with a light tulle bodice. Both gowns reminded us of true “1970’s glamour” and made our bride truly shine.

The groom was outfitted in Zara pants and a Burberry suit jacket paired with a custom pair of Lareymondie shoes, a delicate yellow boutonnière and vintage bowtie. Our friends at Face Time Beauty gave our bride a timeless smokey eye and soft pink lips as well as a soft up-do to feature her hair accessories.

Beautifully on-trend florals were provided by L’Atelier Rouge. Their designs included an ornate canopy of mixed blooms (incorporating daisies!) in Two of a Kind’s Prescot Urns for the bride and groom to share their vows underneath. Seating was provided by Two of a Kind rentals including their popular Iron Garden Folding Chair and Tufted Ottomans. We wanted to highlight mix-and-match ceremony seating since it’s our favorite way to add a creative touch to ceremony seating.

Other L’Atelier Rouge florals seen throughout this shoot include the bride’s bouquet (two of them!) featuring yellow, orange and green pops of color in cascading designs as well as the grooms boutonnière and a centerpiece for the dessert table.

Our dessert display, placed inside the venue’s bank vault, sat against ornate orange wallpaper with yellow and blue detailing. Two of a Kind’s 26″ tall Gold Candelabras and 15″ Gold Candelabras were arranged on the table beside the bride and groom’s tiered cake. We love the gilded accents on the cake, provided by Made In Heaven Cakes. All items sat nicely on Two of a Kind’s Metal Pipe Table, commonly used for event dining.

Nestled in a separate room, a guest’s lounge area was created by a grouping of Two of a Kind Tufted Ottomans and Scalloped Side Tables.

For an updated take on the classic dinner menu, we had ours hand-scripted onto a large silver mirror (provided by Two of a Kind rentals) and scripted by the talented Virginia Lucas Hart. This created a gorgeous statement piece for the wedding guests to view.

Invitations were designed and created by Fourteen-Forty which included a palm details with orange and yellow accents. This invitation set truly embraced the 1970’s theme for the day!

Marriage Matters: A 66 Year Love Story

At the end of the day – when the vows have been said and the cake has been eaten – it’s the one by your side that matters the most. The person who loves you at your best and your worst, no matter the circumstance. And while we’re all about the details and design, and have been known to squeal over a peony bouquet, stories are the heartbeat of each wedding feature, which is where these two darlings come in. Seven kids and 66 years later these two are still hanging out together and having fun along the way. That’s marriage, you guys. Read on for the story and more anniversary inspiration in THE VAULT.

From Kate Ignatowski My grandparents have a really inspiring love story, if only for the fact that they have been married for SIXTY SIX years. That is commitment!

It all started when they met at a student United Nations conference while they were in college. Grandpa tells me that Grandma was the best looking girl there. “And that is no lie.” Afterwards, they kept in touch with handwritten letters. In one exchange, Grandpa wrote that he would come to visit her college. She told him he could come, but her curfew was 11. Grandpa then told his buddies that she meant to write just one 1.. i.e. he was sticking to a 1AM curfew. When my grandmother was telling me this, she began to giggle. “Grandpa really is a cute person.”

When my grandfather finished undergrad, he gave up a full scholarship to Drexel Law School (the only one the college gave out each year) in order to go to Cornell so he could be closer to Grandma in her home town of Athens, PA. Grandpa adds that he was on the wait list at Yale, and he would have turned them down as well had they accepted him.

After law school, Grandpa was drafted into the army and stationed at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey. So during one of his visits with Grandma, he proposed marriage. He tells me that she was quite willing, which he thought was unusual since he didn’t consider himself a good prospect at the time. Apparently they were “poor as church mice!” They married in a simple ceremony at the fort in June of 1949.

Once Grandpa was discharged from the army, they moved to a small town in upstate New York where they knew no one. Grandpa began practicing law and soon was elected a State Supreme Court Justice. Grandma spent her days raising seven children, and Grandpa was a judge for 22 years before he went back to practicing law (which he still does full-time at 91!).

They tell me that they’ve had a pleasant marriage with some ups and downs, which they have managed. They still live on their own and my grandfather takes great care of my grandmother, for which she is very grateful. He told me that she would do the same for him if he was the one that needed caring for.

They built a life together and fulfilled a promise to take care of each other. It is that simple and that extraordinary.

Romantic + Elegant Manhattan Wedding at the W Hotel

There is nothing I love more than a good ol’ glam fest. Perfect example – this W Hotel fete that defines New York style (just look at that funfetti cake). It’s timeless meets romance, like when the couple snuck up to the rooftops with W Studios New York to shoot some seriously gorgeous portraits. It’s the type of wedding that defines modern chic and you can see it all in The Vault!

From W Studios New YorkWhen I first met Allison & Dan I knew they would throw a phenomenal New York City wedding. The glamorous W Hotel was the perfect stage for the celebration. This couple picked one of the most unique locations in NYC for their first look, seeing each other on the roof of the hotel with the iconic “W” and the skyline as their background created some truly unforgettable moments. After we went to my favorite spot in the city, Irving Place. With its classic brownstones, but set away from the hustle and bustle of city life it is truly a well kept secret. Allison & Dan truly created an event to remember with their love of food and sense of style shinning through in all of the little details.

From The Bride…The overall vision for our wedding was to create a timeless and chic celebration that was classically New York City. It came as no surprise to anyone that we chose W New York Union Square Hotel as our wedding venue. It was always my dream to get married at The Plaza Hotel (thank you, Home Alone!) however, it didn’t exactly fit within our budget. Having worked for Starwood Hotels for the past 9 years, W Union Square was the perfect choice for us. When planning a wedding, the first thing everyone wants to know is what the theme will be. Dan and I agreed early on that choosing a ‘standard’ theme wasn’t for us. We are both extremely passionate about cooking, eating, imbibing and trying new restaurants and bars, so that became our theme. As the Corporate Director of Food and Beverage for Starwood Hotels, everyone was expecting me to plan a top notch event. Between the signature cocktails representing our favorite spirits (Gold Rush for him and Spicy Paloma for her), the raw bar overflowing with oysters, stone crab claws, lobster and jumbo shrimp, the celebratory Don Julio tequila shots during our toasts, the non-traditional Momofuku Milk Bar vanilla funfetti wedding cake and everything in between, no one left our wedding hungry or thirsty.

All of our vendors were carefully selected and such a pleasure to work with. Going along with our New York location, it was important for Dan and I to have quintessential NYC photos. Stephen and Yuliya understood our vision and were instrumental in stopping traffic and pedestrians as we took over Irving Place for what bystanders thought was a wedding magazine photo shoot. As an added element of fun, we brought in a photo booth which was a win-win for everyone. Not only were our guests able to take home their film strips, but Dan and I were able to re-live the wedding by looking through all the photos captured throughout the night. The real highlight for me was the wedding cake. As a dessert fiend, I was adamant about having a Momofuku Milk Bar cake and spent several months convincing Dan that it would be better than the traditional buttercream filled, fondant-covered, flower topped cake. It absolutely paid off because people are still raving about how delicious it was!

As expected, we ended the night by closing down the bar in the hotel lobby with all of our closest family and friends. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better day and would not have changed a thing.

Romantic Sunrise Engagement on the Brooklyn Bridge

Inspired by infinitely fun late nights out that turn into pizza-at-sunrise kind of mornings, this romantic esesh from Loft Photography epitomizes young love in the City That Never Sleeps in the most magical way imaginable. From the Bride-to-be’s festive crop top to the Groom-to-be’s tux game on point, check out every last bit from this stylish duo’s shoot in The Vault right here!

From Loft PhotographyA 4:00am wake-up call minus coffee is well worth it when you get to experience sunrise on the Brooklyn Bridge documenting a charming couple’s love for each other! Ashley and Tim have a chemistry that’s contagious, and we think you’ll agree that their style is incredibly dapper! We had the best time strolling and dancing on the bridge as if we were the only ones on it (the cyclists may not have appreciated that). Tim’s tux game was spot on, and we adore Ashley’s pale blush skirt paired with her crop top. We’ll set the alarm for 4:00am any day for sessions like this one.

From The Bride…I wanted our engagement session to be classic, old New York. New York is the city that never sleeps, the mantra is almost as iconic as the Brooklyn Bridge itself and so for our session I wanted to incorporate the spirit of the city. Thinking back on nights where you dress to the nines for a formal event and have so much fun you end up at a late night diner or pizza place right before sunrise and decide to stay up just the extra hour to catch a glimpse. This shoot took us through a night out, first very buttoned up and formal and then eventually we get into party mode. Every black tie dance party inevitably ends up with Tim loosening his tie, losing his jacket and I take my shoes off as soon as possible! Looking at the pictures, they are perfect…it reminds me of New York and being young and carefree and in love. It reminds me of how lucky we are to have each other and live in this bustling beautiful city.
