From Greg Finck PhotographyThis is Rime Arodaky Bridal 017 collection, which was presented in New York City for the Bridal Week. In this collection, our icon reflects the seasons that go by. Synonym of softness and purity, yet sensual and free, the gowns evolve through time. Our muse parades embellished by milky soft fabrics resembling divine immaculate snow. Shining like a night star with shimmering snowflakes. Then, she subtly reveals delicate flowers, like snow reveals flower buds in Spring. Mystical. Ceremonial.

The Dreamiest Plaza Hotel Wedding

When it comes to wedding day grandeur, nothing can quite compare (or hold a candle) to The Plaza Hotel in NYC. Want proof? Just take on peek at this pretty from Marcy Blum Associates. It’s an evening filled with ballroom elegance and Christian Oth behind the lens and we’ve got it all in The Vault!

From the Bride…When I was in my first year out of college, I went to my younger sister’s winter formal with her as her date. She was a Junior at the University of Madison-Wisconsin. While at her formal, we were hanging out with her friend Alex when he asked me if he could give his older brother my number. I was single and looking to date, so I happily obliged. Daniel texted me and asked me for a date the following week. He took me to Pravda on our first date, and my initial impression was that he was extremely sweet, mature, a little shy, and very cute! The conversation was easy, and I felt very comfortable with him instantly. Our first date was the week before Christmas, and I think that we were pretty much living together by March.

About 2-2.5 years into dating, Dan and I went on vacation to Anguilla, which is my favorite island that I have been going to since I was little. I knew he had a ring at this point because I had designed it, but I didn’t know when he was going to propose. It was the second night of our vacation, and we had a dinner reservation at the hotel. When we arrived for dinner, the hostess told us that we had a private table set up by the pool, which overlooked the ocean. The ring was set on the table. When we walked up, Dan took the ring and got onto one knee. It was the most beautiful and meaningful moment that I could have asked for.

Soon after we got home from the trip, we started the wedding planning process. We got Marcy Blum’s name through my mom’s friend, and from our very first meeting with her, we knew she was the perfect fit! Marcy and Gabby (her assistant) made the entire process so seamless and fun. Planning a wedding should be a happy and exciting time, yet sometimes it gets clouded by stress. With Marcy, I did not feel overwhelmed at all. People kept telling me that I was the calmest bride that they had ever met (on my wedding day, someone even asked me if I was sedated!!), and I owe that all to Marcy and Gabby.

Our wedding was at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. It was on June 18th, a beautiful warm sunny day. The entire day was like a dream. I woke up and did Pilates with my sister, and when we came back to the hotel, the bridal suite was decked out with hair and makeup stations, food, champagne, most importantly, my bridal party and mom! Hair and makeup felt like a party-we had champagne flowing, music playing, and matching pajamas (duh!). I think my favorite part of the day was the reveal, though. After getting ready, they had me walk down this beautiful grand staircase where Dan was waiting for me. It became very real to me at that moment that I was about to marry my best friend. Pictures followed, and our photographer Christian made the whole process so playful and fun. Even Dan said he had fun during pictures, which says a lot! We took photos in the hotel, and we also got to go to Central Park since it was such a beautiful day. The shots that he captured were truly amazing.

The ceremony room was the most whimsical, magical room I had ever seen. The design team (David Beahm) made it feel like an enchanted garden. Everything just felt very special and you could tell that so much thought and attention went into the décor. David transformed the Plaza into a beautiful garden, with rustic wooden tables, floral linens, and flowers like peonies, garden roses, and hydrangea. It felt so unexpected for the Plaza, which I loved. The food was great-everyone raved about the raw bar and the lobster rolls at the cocktail hour. My favorite touch was that there were freshly made doughnuts for guests as they were leaving at the end of the night-SO good!! Honestly, the whole day/night was such a blur-it went by way too fast and I wish I could do it all over again. It was the most special day of my life, and I feel so lucky to have had everyone I love in one room for a night. It was so whimsical and beautiful…a truly perfect way to start our marriage.

Classic NYC Wedding… With A Whimsical Twist

How do you pull off a classic city wedding… but with a unique whimsical twist? You hire an incredible team led by Ang Weddings and Events. Add in Nine Cakes and Face Time Beauty Concierge assisting with the details and Brian Hatton and McKenzie Miller Films capturing it all, you’re guaranteed a stylish success. And that’s exactly what we have right here – head to our Vault to see it all!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/168268027 600 338]

From the Bride and Groom… We first met in springtime in New York City, and we hoped to capture that feeling of lush beauty and budding excitement! We wanted to celebrate in the style of a classic, elegant New York wedding, but also retain the elements of our unique style – a little whimsical and cartoony.

Our planner, Tzo Ai of Ang Weddings and Events, knew how to help us blend those elements perfectly. We visited several venues in the city for our ceremony and reception, but knew almost immediately that the Four Seasons Hotel – with its curving row of bright, round awning lights, pillared central space, and enormous grid windows with twinkling candles in every pane – would combine our love for a retro New York vibe with a more modern, contemporary sleekness. Our floral design was in shades of pale pink, ivory, white, and hints of chartreuse, using cherry blossoms and peonies as the backdrop, but together with Tzo Ai and our wonderfully talented florist Sarah from Blossom and Branch, we incorporated bright pops of saturated pinks and corals to add a bit of unexpected color and fun. On our wedding day, we completely fell in love with the tall, lush arrangements that evoked a garden-like feel… reminding us of our first dates in Central Park!

To add a bit more of our own humor to the wedding, we created specially designed invitations from Lion in the Sun, incorporating our very own cartoon “bear and lion” motif, which I (Emily, the bride) like to sketch to represent us. We loved the contrast of the classic heavy, ivory letterpress with gold flowing script… and the funny “bear and lion” cartoon and bright pink edging. Likewise, we equally loved creating both our beautifully elegant (and so delicious!) gold-and-white cake from Nine Cakes decorated with what seemed like a billion tiny hand-made petaled flowers, as well as our “bear and lion riding in a yellow cab” cartoon that I drew just for our wedding and we had printed directly onto our favorite Eleni’s iced cookies. To tie everything together, we thought music would be key! Our band, Blair Reinhard Band, was simply phenomenal, weaving Sinatra and Top 40’s music in together to create a fun, vibrant atmosphere. When I picked my wedding dress, I also hoped to find something that would capture old-school glamour but with a bit of fun, and I found it in the custom, intricately beaded bodice and full ballgown skirt with an asymmetric gather and wide, ribbon-like panel of silk gazar train. Like our wedding, it was exactly what I had hoped for – classic, but with a little magic thrown in!

The best advice we can give is to stay true to your own personal sense of fun and style! We loved all the little details and extra whimsical touches that made our wedding feel so special to us. We agree that the best practical advice is to find a planner who both organizes and inspires you; if you have busy jobs and careers, a great planner will make all the difference!

From the Bride… Being an artist and designer myself I had a clear vision for the esthetic design of the wedding that all evolved from a beautiful Marie Antoinette inspired greeting card designed by the artist Paulette Kinney. Years before my wedding was even a glimmer on the horizon I happened across this enchanting gilded greeting card on Etsy and instantly fell in love with the whimsy and beauty of the design. Years later, soon after I was engaged, Paulette was the very first vendor I contacted to commission her to rework the design into a custom wedding monogram and entire wedding paperie suite. This image became the cornerstone of the visual esthetic of the event and was laced throughout the entire look of the day becoming the single most standout element branding our wedding. The custom baroque and pink rose encrusted crest was hand painted on a custom runner in the church, used on the favor boxes and escort cards, as well as hand painted on the most prominent tier of our wedding cake. The single most stunning use of this image was the large-scale reproduction that was printed on a 33’x15’ custom dance floor wrap. This piece was an absolute showstopper for guests when they entered the ballroom. The colors also complimented the overhead sky mural so wonderfully that the two looked as if they were made for each other. Having this one piece of inspiration to generate all of my ideas from made choosing the other elements in the room a breeze, including the vintage crystal napkin rings, dupioni silk blush pink napkins and the divinely light and airy ruffled table linens from La Tavola.

My something old was my great grandmother’s handkerchief given to me by my grandmother, as well as a vintage six pence coin presented to me by my mother and 4 sisters. We observed the age-old tradition of placing a six pence coin in the bride’s shoe to wish her prosperity, love and happiness in her marriage. Something borrowed was a crystal and silver rosary acquired by my sister and maid of honor, Alana, during her studies abroad in Italy. It was purchased at vintage shop in Rome, and blessed by Pope Benedict XVI during a mass she attended at the Vatican. On my wedding day it was wrapped around the stem of my bouquet as I walked down the aisle. If Jesse and I are blessed with a daughter one day this same rosary will be gifted to her from Alana on her first holy communion. Since the accent color for my wedding was pale aqua blue, my something blue was a custom made aqua silk tulle crystal beaded garter. Finally my something new was a gorgeous Alencon lace cathedral length mantilla veil designed by Homa, which I absolutely fell in love with the moment I tried it on and was purchased by my mother. Hopefully this beautiful heirloom quality piece can also be passed down for generations to come.

The Ceremony was held at a church in Brooklyn Jesse grew up attending as young boy. He spent many Sundays there as an alter boy and we both quickly agreed it would be a sweet sentiment knowing the same aisle he walked down as a young boy on many a Sundays was the same aisle he would be walking down as an adult on our wedding day. A Custom aisle runner was hand painted with the monogram crest from our wedding invitations, and gorgeous letterpress wedding programs were custom designed by the talented Barbara Stanaitis of Bella Baroque Studio.

Jesse and I love historic locales. On many weekends during the fall and winter you can find us traveling to quaint New England towns in search of historic landmarks, mansions, or homes to explore. We definitely knew we both wanted to get married in a historic space. We visited every historic locale within an hour of NYC, from the sprawling grounds of Oheka Castle, to the baroque ballroom of Sleepy Hollow Country, to the stonewalls of Hempstead house in Long Island. Each one was beautiful in its own rite but not the right fit for us. Disappointed Jesse and I felt like we had left no stone unturned and were about to settle on one of the many properties we had already visited, until my sister and maid of honor Alana recommended we look at the ballroom on the top floor of the famous St. Regis Hotel in NYC. Given that she is my sister and knows my absolute love of baroque details she knew it was the place. One quick Internet search later and I knew I had found the one! Jesse and I quickly booked an appointment with the catering manager to view the space. Between the expansive views of Fifth Avenue and Central Park, the elegant details of the gilded ballroom, sparkling baroque chandeliers, and pale aqua sky mural painted on the ceiling, we knew it was the perfect locale for our classic New York affair. The bygone era esthetic of the space was the perfect backdrop for the Marie Antoinette inspired design ideas I had for the rest of the wedding. The ballroom was also the perfect size for our 160+ head count, and offered us a space that was big enough for all our guests to enjoy dinner and dancing comfortably, yet small enough that the party still felt intimate and romantic. I’m definitely not a bride who likes the feel of large sprawling event venues or halls and this event space was completely the opposite.

Some of my favorite moments of the day captured by Clary Pfeiffer were the photos taken of Jesse and myself when we were first able to view the ballroom before our guests. I had spent countless months and many late nights agonizing over all of the details of this room, and when I saw it for the first time I felt like I had entered into a dream world filled with all of my favorite things. I remember in this moment twirling around in the center of the dance floor staring up at the glittering chandeliers, admiring the overwhelmingly gorgeous rendition of our monogram on the dance floor and basking in the warm glow of the candlelight emanating from the candelabras, and saying to Jesse and Marie Danielle “Can I live here!” It was nothing short of breathtaking.

Saturday Morning Movie: A Classic Texas Love Story at The Plaza Hotel NYC

A classic beauty, an iconic venue, and timeless words welcome us with open arms in this stunning Rob Adams Films clip. Set at The Plaza Hotel in NYC, this elegant and grand wedding is straight out of a movie – from the gorgeous views to the fairy tale romance. Sit back and enjoy this happily ever after!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/128939847 600 338]

From Rob Adams FilmsMarried at The Plaza Hotel, one of New York’s finest luxury wedding establishments, Leah and Blake’s young love was celebrated in New York City! This couple swept us off their feet with their lavish wedding decor, a stunning venue, and a timeless Texan twist! A case of love at first sight, this couple is one of our favorites! As he sat alongside Leah listening to speeches by loved ones, and held her hands in his, Blake was full of gratitude and joy. “Endowed with her mother’s beauty and cheerful personality, she was bound to attract a potential husband in short order” says Leah’s father in his speech. “You radiant an inner and outer beauty without a trace of vanity,” her father says. Her hair worn long, and styled in delicate waves, Leah was a gorgeous bride.

On a beautiful spring day, complete with a grande room full of guests, Leah and Blake were joined into holy matrimony together in a short non-denominational Christian wedding ceremony. Leah was absolutely stunning in her haute couture wedding dress by world renowned luxury dress maker, Galia Lahav, and Blake went with a classic Hugo Boss tux. Once married, their guest tossed rice into the air in celebration of their new life together! The couple headed into Central Park for a post-ceremony photography session where they had fun taking portraits and turning the heads of other sophisticated New Yorkers passing by them. Overlooking Manhattan’s Central Park South, Leah stole Blake’s heart at the wedding of a lifetime. Their love for one another, so sweet and youthful.

Upon their return to The Plaza, Leah and Blake joined their close friends and family for cocktail hour where they shared laughs, dancing, drinks, and delicacies all the while preparing for their choreographed first dance! Their first dance was delicate and romantic – ending with Blake dipping Leah on the dance floor for an exit kiss! A live trio and quartet played throughout their wedding reception; the music enveloped the Plaza’s grand ballroom with melody in celebration of their love. Gathered with their closest friends and family, and full of genuine and heart-felt emotions, we really enjoyed filming their special day. Here is a teaser, a short film, for you to experience the beauty of their day through our offerings of luxury cinematography. We appreciate that Leah and Blake chose us at Rob Adams Films to create their wedding film for them. We love meeting brides and grooms who are excited about and care deeply about having a gorgeous wedding film!

Like a classic fairytale, the love story of Elizabeth and Oliver began at a picturesque castle in the European countryside (it’s true)! Studying abroad, the couple met at Chateau de Schengen in Luxembourg and continued their relationship as seniors in college. Before tying the knot, Elizabeth and Oliver shared many adventures and eventually settled in their Upper West Side apartment, which they now call home. The couple celebrated their “happily ever after” with friends and family at the St. Regis Hotel in New York on April 30, 2016.

Throughout the wedding planning process, Elizabeth and Oliver made sure to include details which reflect their personalities: a trolley to accommodate their colossal wedding party, mismatched bridesmaid dresses (a nod to the bride’s love of fashion), a documentary-style live artist, luggage tag favors/escort cards embossed with their favorite travel quotes, a surprise appearance by Mr. Met (the groom is a die-hard NY Mets fan), and they topped it all off with a Momofuki wedding cake!

From the couple… We live in the East Village/Alphabet City in New York and we got engaged down the street from our apartment in a community garden where the groom is a volunteer member. When it came time to research venues and pick a date, we loved the idea of a springtime celebration in the city – we hoped that our friends and family would be shedding their winter coats, loosening up into spring, and feeling festive and ready to party!

We held our ceremony and reception in mid-April at Studio 450, an all-white loft space with glossy floors, walls of windows, and great views of the city. We didn’t have a specific theme in mind, but in retrospect, the wedding turned out to be somewhat garden-inspired. We wanted the wedding to be simple and elegant with a festive dose of formality to reflect the city setting, but also relaxed and fun. I looked at lots of photos online for inspiration, but ultimately our main wedding planning strategy was to pick great vendors, trust their advice, and let them do what they do best.

Each and every one of our vendors did an incredible job, especially the incomparable Yen and Gary of Real Food Catering who not only took care of all of the fabulous food but also seamlessly pulled the entire day together. Our wedding day was perfect and we are so thankful to our fabulous photographer, Kelly Kollar, for capturing the mood and energy of the day.

We ended up getting gorgeous weather – it was warm and sunny and almost 70 degrees. The “getting ready” part of the day at the Eventi Hotel was laid-back and fun. We did a “first look” at Studio 450 and took photos before the ceremony. The ceremony was short but pretty emotional. We were surrounded by cherry blossom branches, the space was flooded with light, and it felt totally ethereal. One of our favorite details of the day was the flowers (especially all the coral charm peonies!) by our amazing floral designer, Doan Ly. We also particularly loved the calligraphy by Julia Bez for our invitation envelopes, table numbers, place cards, day-of signs, and of course the large mirror at Studio 450 with hand painted guest names and table assignments.

Our cocktail hour took place outside on the terrace as the sun was setting, and we had dinner and dancing downstairs in the space where the ceremony had taken place. We absolutely loved the Silver Arrow Band. At one point, while the band performed “At Last” by Etta James, we looked around the dance floor and noticed that some people had actually stopped dancing to face the stage concert-style and just watch the vocalists sing.

Ultimately, however, the best part of our wedding was simply being surrounded by our family and friends. Thanks to our wonderful vendors, we were truly able to savor the experience and enjoy the day.

From the Bride… Matthew and Asha were married March 19, 2016. Asha has mixed heritage and is half Indian, so the couple decided to fuse traditions and invite guests to a two day celebration in New York City where they reside. The first event was Friday March 18, an Indian Sangeet at Ph-d rooftop lounge at the Dream Downtown. The location was significant to them as three years prior, they had met and were stuck in an elevator in that very hotel! The couple wanted to return to the ‘scene of the crime’ to celebrate with friends and family.

The couple opted for minimal decor – just vibrant petals and colorful votive candles to contrast the sweeping skyline views and amazing lighting at the venue. Guests feasted on Indian food and then the festivities began. Accompanied by a dhol player (traditional Indian drum) the bridal party performed dances choreographed by the bride and her friend (both former dancers, the bride a former Radio City Rockette.) The night ended with a raucous dance party.

The color palette inspiration was shades of rosé and gold. The bride’s dress was Marchesa with intricate crystal and pearl detail on the décolletage. The bridesmaids dresses were sequins in alternating shades, each dress with a unique detail to make it their own. The florals were in the same palette, roses, hydrangeas, vintage yet modern. The bouquets were all studded with crystals for an extra sparkle. The groom opted for a navy blue tux and his groomsmen wore black. The groom loves to wear red socks, so he incorporated touches of red into his custom suit supply tux – embroidery on the shirt and under jacket collar, and lining of the jacket. The bride’s nephews also wore red socks to match the groom during the ceremony. The girls got ready in the glamorous Tiffany suite. The matron of honor (bride’s sister) conducted a ‘burn ceremony’ in which each bridesmaid made a wish for the couple and threw it in the fire.

The ceremony was interfaith, drawing on Christian & Indian traditions, designed by the couple and officiant Lisa Traina. In addition to Christian readings, there was the hindu ‘7 steps’ and a rose ceremony for the bride’s late mother. The rose ceremony was conceived by the bride and a tribute to their shared love of the ballet, and when the ballerina pulls a rose out of her bouquet for her partner. During the ceremony, the bride pulled a rose from her bouquet in honor of her mother.During the reception, the couple continued the themes of ‘old New York’ and travel through their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s ‘Come Fly with Me.’ The dip and groom’s moves surprised guests! The couple and guests dance the night away…

Guests left with a luxury scented candle designed by the bride who works for a global fragrance house. She worked with a perfumer to make a custom scent that reflected Matthew & herself – Indian sandalwood, American Cedarwood, to represent their roots, and a touch of coconut as a nod to their family name. Named Wanderlove, the candle represented two individuals coming together, filled with wanderlust and love.

Witness The Ultimate Cherry Blossoms Covered E-Sesh

New York in the spring is just magic. Take this stunning engagement session from Rebecca Yale Photography as prime example. From the petal covered park to the sweet kisses Lindsay and Steven share, we think it’s safe to say that they basically had the best engagement session ever. See it all in The Vault!

From Rebecca Yale PhotographyLindsay and Steven got engaged in a perfect New York moment when Steven surprised Lindsay at Bowtie Cinemas in Chelsea with a movie that ended in his proposal and their friends surprising them in the theater. The New York based couple decided to take photographs in Central Park catching the perfect magical moment when the city is coated in pink petals and is at its most photogenic! The bride kept the styling classic in a white dress and the groom in a blue blazer to compliment the beautiful blossoms and then changing into a more casual outfit for a stroll by Bethesda Fountain.

From the Bride-to-be…. About four years ago, my roommate Jessie and I were riding up in our elevator when a few guys happened to exit on our floor. We turned to enter our apartment and they continued to the one right next door. We later heard music blaring from their apartment, and naturally intrigued, I said to Jessie, “We should crash their party”… and so we did!

We knocked on our neighbor’s door and I said, “If you guys are going to blast loud music, you should really invite your neighbors.” We were immediately greeted with smiles and I quickly made eye contact with Steven from across the room. After about ten minutes of being there, he came up to me and said “do you crash parties often?” I have been smitten ever since.

Steven and I had plans to see the Hunger Games movie opening weekend with two of our friends (I am a fanatic). When we arrived at the movie theater, the usher encouraged us to wait after the movie was over because they were showing special deleted scenes – we were pumped!

After the movie was over and the credits started to roll, people started the exiting the theater but there was no way I was going to miss the deleted scenes! The lights dimmed, and all of a sudden, Steven was on the screen. For the next three minutes, I watched as Steven, our friends, and families lip synced to our favorite song- “Say Hey (I Love You)” by Michael Franti & Spearhead. I watched as he danced and played air guitar in front of our most memorable New York spots – from the building where we first met to our first date spot at Alta.

After the video was over, the lights turned back on and everyone in the theater stood up. To my surprise, it was all of our friends and family, who had been there the whole time! I was in a state of shock. Steven got down on one knee and proposed. The best part is, we have the whole proposal on video to share with our loved ones for years to come.
