This Couple Brought Romantic French Chateau Vibes To Their New York Wedding

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

The wedding colors were Champagne, Cream, Sage, and Ivy.

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]

The vibe was a Romantic/Modern French Chateau wedding. “We started our love story while studying abroad in college and traveling to Paris for a weekend trip, and made several trips back to France for vacations, and ultimately while getting engaged, so the mutual love and connection to the beautiful country, it’s gorgeous gardens and chateaus inspired our venue and many of the course elements of our wedding”

[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]”To celebrate our 5 year anniversary, and both of our completion of graduate programs and the end of many years of long distance following undergrad, we traveled to Paris, one of our favorite places. While there, we visited the Château de Chantilly in the idyllic Chantilly region – where everywhere seemed to smell of fresh roses. Marc proposed in front of the castle, which was followed by a surprise engagement shoot all around the beautiful grounds. Afterwards, we trained back to the city and spent the afternoon and evening in romantic Montmartre visiting the love wall, eating french fries and drinking champagne all while Facetiming excited family members and friends and capping off the night by adding our lock to the love fence in front of Sacre-Coeur.”[/field]

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]”Our menu was designed with an homage to some of our favorite meals and cuisines. Our cocktail hour allowed us to bring in variety, which is something we incorporate into our daily life (always searching for new recipes, restaurants, etc.), while our main appetizer and entree options represented some of our favorite meals to eat on special occasions (short ribs, french cut chicken, risotto).”[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

“The vision for our flowers was inspired by romantic and organic floral arrangements that would accentuate/compliment the already very present beauty and grandeur of our venue without trying to overpower it. With this in mind we kept our color scheme to muted accent colors of champagne, peach, white and greens that built on the existing ivy and sandstone colors around OHEKA CASTLE. We also wanted florals that highlighted each section of the venue like flowers and greenery weaving through the railing of the grand staircase entryway, a stunning arch framing our garden ceremony, and tall table arrangements drawing your view to the beautifully tall ceilings in the ballroom area.”

[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]”Our wedding also featured an entire desert room that in addition to featuring the stunning, elegant and yet minimalistic wedding cake that Daniel created. We also included a flambe station, patisserie goods, a shoe-bun tower and more.”[/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]”We each prepared our own vows, and both agree that this was the most special moment in the entire wedding. What started out as a nerve-wracking proposition (having to share some of your most intimate thoughts with all of your closest friends and family) is something we both found to be the most powerful and connecting experience in our wedding. “

“We had a special signing of our marriage license during the reception. We were lucky enough to have one of our closest friends officiate our wedding and when we got to get together in a room with him, my sister (MOH) and Marc’s brother (Best Man) to finally concretize the marriage it was a joyous, hilarious, laughter filled moment that we will never forget.”[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]

“One personal touch we particularly loved incorporating during our wedding was using watercolors of places we had traveled to together as a couple as our table numbers instead of traditional numbers. Travel has been a big part of our relationship and it was such a special touch to be able to seat our loved ones at some of our favorite places.”

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]

One part of the day that was especially meaningful to Marc and Becca were their portraits in the garden. Becca says, “The garden at OHEKA CASTLE is particularly special to Marc and I because we went out to dinner at Oheka and walked around the gardens the final night before starting our 5 year long distance journey during graduate school. The gardens are where we decided to commit and put in an incredible amount of effort and time to make a relationship work across multiple states.” The couple worked with photographer Katie Trauffer Photography to maximize time and locations throughout the magnificent gardens on their wedding day and to take portraits that would capture their love and joy artistically, authentically, and timelessly.

[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]

Though all of the dancing was incredibly fun, especially moments like being hoisted up in chairs by our closest friends, and screaming some of our favorite songs on a packed dance floor, the final dance of the night was just the two of us and it allowed us to relish in all the beauty and love that filled the day while remembering it was about us two, our connection and our enduring love.

Southern Charm at this Blogger’s Oheka Castle Destination Wedding from NST Pictures

A year ago… almost to the day… fashion and life-style blogger Courtney Toliver married Timothy Ansley Guthrie in what can only be described as an utterly charming outdoor ceremony at New York’s fairy-tale OHEKA CASTLE. Courtney had dreamed of this venue for years, but never thought she’d be able to be married there. After a little research she found that if their wedding was on a weekday, her dream of being married there just might work out!

When Courtney’s mom showed them a wedding film shot at the very same venue by NST Pictures, they were sold on the idea of having a film from this, their once-in-a-lifetime, event. It’s a decision they will never regret! Before you watch the film, though, think about it… using a videographer who has filmed other weddings at your (same) venue can have a distinct advantage. With aerial coverage being so hot these days (hmmm… or should I say really cool!)… this add-on to a standard cinematography package provides that extra wow (!) factor to the finished film. OK – now… you can watch!

Tell the truth… did you watch ’til the very end when Courtney sang? Didn’t she blow you away? I had already done a little research about Courtney and was really impressed with everything she’s doing on her blog. But when you see this couple on their film, you’ll fall in love with both of them and their families within the first minute. Plus, when you hear them repeat those time-honored, traditional vows (words spoken by millions of people through the years), don’t you still get goosebumps and a lump in your throat? I know I do.

Their film is a moving example of one couple with huge hearts, and a loving family supporting them in love… and in life.  Sharing their faith and their belief in the institution of marriage, itself. As NST Pictures says on their website, “A wedding film is a family heirloom that captures the true essence of the union of two families.” A precious… and priceless investment.

Did you see the stunning aerial views from NST Pictures of OHEKA CASTLE?… if not, don’t scroll a fraction of an inch forward until you go back and watch it (again)!

Cinematographers almost always offer a variety of options in their time availability and their finished product packages. If you’re not all that familiar with all of the terminology, or you just need a place to learn more about wedding videography, in general, NST Pictures’ website covers it all. And the best thing? They either ARE – or will GO – anywhere your heart wants to go!

Here are a few pages from NST Pictures’ website to get you started…

Courtney‘s thoughts on the decision to hire a cinematographer… When we first started planning our wedding, we just weren’t sure if we wanted to spend the extra money for a wedding film. We knew that our photographs from Donny Zavala were going to be incredible… and we thought that might suffice. One day, my Mom, who has a special talent for finding things on social media, came across NST Pictures and told us that we should check them out. We did and could tell, instantly, that they were a team of incredibly talented people. We loved the style of each and every one of their videos. What stood out to us the most, though, was that NST had filmed at OHEKA many times! Watching those weddings, at our venue, helped us make the decision to sign on the dotted line! We finally realized that there are some moments that are just more special in cinematic form… NST was the perfect decision for us.

Romantic + Moody New York Castle Wedding

Stefanie and Ted are entertainers by nature, so they saw their wedding as an opportunity to treat their guests to a day they’d never forget. From the castle setting all the way to the karaoke afterparty, they made sure not detail went unnoticed, and we have all the images captured by Olya Vysotskaya.

From the Bride… Ted and I met online, which is such a crazy thing to say because I feel like I’ve known him my whole life! We are obsessed with entertaining and take it very seriously. Needless to say that when it came to planning our wedding (the biggest entertaining night of our lives!) the pressure was on to make sure that our guests would have the best time while still adding in all of the adorable touches that make us…well, us!

After our first venue fell through, we decided to get back on the horse and start looking at places not in New Jersey as we had originally planned. We borrowed a friend’s car and we headed into unchartered territory – Long Island! The first place we went to was a complete bust. We left deflated and were ready to call it quits. I reminded him we had one more venue and it was SUPER close so we should just suck it up and go. Low and behold we wind up at Oheka Castle. I don’t even think that I took one step inside before I told Ted “This is THE ONE”. Once inside it was a done deal.

As for the big day itself, it’s just like everybody tells you – it goes by way too fast, is a total blur, and it’s the most fun day ever. The wedding went off without a hitch and the love that was all around us was inspiring.

Of course, being the entertainers that we are – we couldn’t end there! If there is one thing I love its karaoke! Everybody I know said that the karaoke was by far the most fun thing they’ve done for a wedding afterparty. It got people dancing, singing and in an all around party mode! Once our time was up people hung out in the back courtyard of the castle and one of our friends even ordered pizza for us and the staff. We stretched out the night as long as we possibly could because we just never wanted it to end

A Castle Played Backdrop to their Fairytale Wedding

This wedding day…where do we even start? The castle setting, the gorgeous bride (who’s also a professional model) and the Pronovias gown made for a modern princess. Of course, our girl Julie Paisley brought her A-game behind the camera lens and the wedding gallery truly speaks for itself.

From Julie Paisley… When the inquiry came in from Stephanie, all I saw was Oheka Castle and I immediately jumped up and down. This place is AMAZING. Hands down one of the most beautiful venues ever. Add in Stephanie and Chris who are drop dead gorgeous (Stephanie is a professional model in NYC and Chris is a Jimmy Fallon look-a-like – don’t you agree?) along with a beautiful day and I just couldn’t stop smiling.

I love Stephanie’s classic style, it was the perfect fit for such an impressive venue. Some of my favorite parts was the ceremony – I loved all the expressions and emotions, the family formals in the library – so incredibly classy and gorgeous and that Stephanie had her brothers as her “bridesmen”. It was definitely one for the books.

Elegant Oheka Castle Wedding

Layer upon layer of luxurious elegance is about to unfold before your eyes, in the form of Rebecca Yale‘s artful imagery. With a slightly Art Deco vibe, this Oheka Castle affair glows with rich detailing that we crave on the daily here at SMP… a perfectly styled invitation suite, designed by Ipanema Press and Bella Figura, a bouquet from Ava Flora with a mind of it’s own and that dress, oh that dress. It’s a doozy, darlings.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/122611768 600 338]

From Rebecca YaleSandy and Kain’s wedding celebration at Oheka Castle was a gorgeous day full of elegant details and a celebration fit for royalty. From the absolutely stunning bouquet and floral arrangements from Avaflora to her gorgeous Monique Lhullier dress every detail was perfection! I had the pleasure of photographing Sandy and Kain’s engagement party last year, so it was so much fun to work with them again and document their beautiful wedding day. I absolutely love getting to know my couples during the planning process and these two are just the sweetest! The love for each other and their big families was evident in every moment of the day and was a joy to capture for them.

From the beautiful Bride… Kain and I originally met in High School, and reconnected right after college. We met up in New York City one chilly winter night. Kain and I had been dating for 3 years before he proposed on Sunday, March 24th 2013 at Lenz Winery, my favorite vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island. It was a breezy spring day so naturally; I wanted to go inside the barn turned tasting room to keep warm. As we were walking in, Kain asked me to wait because he had something to ask me. When I turned around, he was already on one knee asking me to marry him! This overwhelming happy feeling just came over me like I never felt before! I was so excited but couldn’t stop shaking at the same time, I couldn’t stop smiling! I was on cloud nine!

I planned the entire wedding myself, but with MUCH help from my mother…thank goodness for her! I chose Oheka Castle for our reception because I wanted an Art Deco feel that exuded luxury and glamour. The garden and grounds of Oheka are absolutely gorgeous and the Castle itself is stunning! I had an Art Deco theme throughout the wedding. The color mix was ivory, light blush, and gold. Kain went to his family jeweler and designed my gorgeous custom oval-cut platinum engagement ring with a double diamond halo. For our wedding bands, Kain wanted something simple since he isn’t used to wearing jewelry. Kain chose a simple platinum wedding band and I chose a natural round wedding band. It’s gorgeous!

When initially looking for my dress I knew I wanted one that was romantic, timeless, and that made me feel beautiful. I chose a two-tone ivory gown featuring a lace bodice embroidered with lace and embellished with crystals, pearls, and baby glass beads. It also featured a textured organza tufted skirt with a quaint keyhole back. I knew I definitely wanted to keep my dress very traditional by choosing beaded, lace sleeves and a ball gown, but I also wanted to something modern which is why I chose the princess cut bodice with the keyhole back. I loved the mix of traditional and modern at the same time. My Monique Lhuillier wedding gown delivered timeless elegance with a modern edge. My cathedral length veil featured leaping scallops of lace edge. As far as my shoes, I wanted a classic shoe that I knew I could wear even after the wedding was over which is why I chose a glamorous strappy nude Manolo Blahnik. And blue nail polish on my toes (my something blue)! Kain’s Mother contributed to my “something borrowed” – a vintage diamond bracelet which was also used as a ‘something borrowed’ when Kain’s brother married my sister-in-law in essence starting a Family tradition. My bridal purse was a small YSL purse with a gold chain. I used it for all of my bridal events: bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, and wedding day. I wore my hair swept to the side in loose curls and a crystal grape cluster headpiece by Twigs and Honey.

I had 5 bridesmaids. They all wore the same Adrianna Papell beaded one shoulder dress. We searched around all day in New York City and kept seeing very plain generic bridesmaids’ dresses. I wanted my girls to really love their dress and feel just as gorgeous and confident as I did in my wedding dress. I also wanted to get the Art Deco feel from the dresses. So when I saw my bridesmaids come out of the dressing room one by one with the dress, I just knew it was the one! They all looked stunning in them and I knew all of us as a group would really have a ‘wow’ factor. The beading on the dresses really complemented my wedding dress and I felt as if they were a true accessory to me, the bride.I gifted all my girls a crystal grape cluster comb by Twigs and Honey for them to put in their hair the day of the wedding. It matched my crystal headpiece from Twigs and Honeys. The flower girls wore custom made tulle dresses designed and made by my Aunt. The ring bearers all wore classic mini tuxes with bow ties. They had silver brunia boutonnieres with hints of eucalyptus.

I carried a gorgeous cascading bouquet with blooms in shades of white and cream with accents of blush. Florals included roses, snow berry, lisianthus, calla lilies, and orchids. Draping foliage such as ivy and eucalyptus was included and stems were finished in a lace ribbon cuff and pearl accenting. Bridesmaids carried a garden bouquet with blooms in shades of blush, champagne, and mauve with accents of green. Flowers included roses, snow berry, lisianthus, and silver brunia. The centerpieces had an Art Deco look to them. Table numbers were in gold with ivory table linens. Godiva chocolate wedding favors with gold ribbon were on all the tables with a letterpress favor card from Bella Figura. Our precious favor cards were letter pressed with a small poodle and a sweet message. Kain and I adopted a toy poodle from North Shore Animal League last year and we wanted to incorporate her in the wedding! This was the perfect way!

Father/Daughter dance was “The way you look tonight” version by Steve Tyrell, I grew up loving “Father of the Bride” Since I am from Peruvian decent, I always grew up dancing to Salsa at my family gatherings. The wedding wasn’t any different. Kain and I are also big fans of obscure 80s songs and New Wave music. Therefore, it was tricky to try to find someone that not only mix both but was familiar with those types of genres! Towards the end of the night, we also had an amazing surprise performance by professional Salsa dancers!!!

Oheka Castle Wedding from Mel Barlow + DM Events

For someone who longs for life in Europe, Oheka Castle is a dream come true. Our very own castle, set close to home, and hello, it’s gorgeous. DM Events dressed the castle up for this beautiful couples wedding and holy cow, Mel Barlow, we’re obsessed with every single image you captured.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/67338095 601 338]

From DM Events… We fell in love with Ame and Mike early on when we realized that one party was just not going to be enough! The gracious couple hosted a party-filled wedding weekend at the stunning Oheka Castle.

The welcome party took place on the lush upper lawn of the estate. The guests, dressed in their best garden party attire, were invited to enjoy a BBQ fete under the stars in a setting we can only describe as garden chic meets BBQ glam! We selected a completely clear tent to ensure guests had unobstructed views of the grandeur of the property and gorgeous sunset. Staying true to our summer garden party concept, we wanted to dress down the tent with wooden farm tables adorned with a linen runner and soft, simple florals. And no garden party is complete without dancing under the stars so we worked with the amazing team at Frost Productions to create a star-filled ceiling of bistro lights.

When it came to the decor for the wedding reception, the couple wanted a design that was elegant, yet reserved. While the Terrace Room at the castle lends itself to being filled with heavy florals, we wanted the evening to feel more soft and romantic, so we chose to design the room around the luxurious feel of candlelight. Half of the tables featured varying sizes of antique silver candlesticks and pedestal candles only, and the room was aglow! We imagine it was illuminated the very same way when the castle was originally built! To complement the luxurious candlelight and lush blooms, we worked with Sesame Letterpress on the stationery suite and fell in love with the sweet coral monogram they created, and we applied throughout the design.

The weekend felt effortlessly perfect and we were elated to see our couple so happy and in love!
