Why Flower Bars Are the New “It” Bridal Shower Detail

Hi SMP Brides! It’s Jess of Dressed by Jess again and today I am so excited to share my garden-inspired bridal shower with you. First, let me start out by saying that I was so completely overwhelmed with love and joy on the day of my shower. The feeling of having all of the special women in your life, in one room, gathered to celebrate your soon-to-be marriage, is indescribable.

I cried many happy tears! My bridal shower was not a surprise, I was aware of the date and location, but my girls kept a lot of secrets from me which made the day extra special. My mom, sister, bridesmaids, and future mother-in-law did such an incredible job planning the day for me. From the flower bar, to the custom flower crown station, to the floral photo booth, my eyes didn’t know where to settle first upon entering the room.

My shower took place at the Madison Hotel in the Conservatory room, which features floor to ceiling windows, opulent chandeliers, and rich greenery. It was truly stunning! The invitations were accentuated with pretty pastels, pops of fuchsia, and a whimsical garden-inspired design by Sugar and Grace Paper. The reverse side of the invitations included the saying “Please join us in the garden for love and laughter before the happily ever after.”

We spent the day sipping on mimosas, enjoying delicious food and all the fun festivities my bridesmaids put together. We laughed over the clever games and cried over the sentimental moments. I really enjoyed the He Said/She Said game. It was fun to listen to all the guests’ responses.

The flower bar represented my love for florals, and it also served as a favor station. Each guest was able to pick their favorite flowers and put them into jars to bring home. Another fun touch? We used the flowers to create flower crowns! This station was a hit. I couldn’t pull my friends away from it if I tried to. It kept them very busy when I opened gifts.

The photo booth was very non-traditional and my sister worked with Angela of Floriography Designs to hang flowers for the backdrop. At the end of the day I really enjoyed looking back at all the photos of my friends and family. It was such a sweet touch.

I opted to keep my ensemble fairly traditional for the shower. I wore a long-sleeved lace white dress from Allen Schwartz and completed the look with a Marchesa clutch from Rent the Runway. I worked with Michelle from Up and Out to create a bohemian-inspired fishtail braid. We styled it with a delicate Violette Garland hair accessory from Hermione Harbutt. I felt the dainty pearl flowers nestled along the gold branches truly fit in with the bridal shower theme.

It was a floral-filled afternoon and I was surrounded by so much love. I’m so thankful for those who helped me celebrate. I hope you enjoyed taking a peek into my bridal shower. Huge thank you to Jessa of Love & Light Photographs for capturing every moment. Stay tuned for more pre-wedding details. xx Jess.

Flower bar tips from Floriography Designs

Find a floral expert that can provide the flowers, tools, and expertise. In the case of DIY, do research about flowers and find a good flower market provider.

Create a concept. Choose your color theme and floral style. You could go from French market, urban chic, to rustic and country style. Try to pick flowers according to your bridal shower theme.

Select the right flowers that will be easy to pick for your guests that can be arranged in small bud vases. Preferably no thorns and clean stems.

Don’t forget to prep! Order your flowers ahead of time. On the day before, unwrap and prepare buckets with clean water and flower food to condition and feed them. Clean the stems removing thorns or any unnecessary leaves. Arrange them by bunches.

Set the stage. Get creative by designing and decorating your flower bar with buckets for your guests to pick the flowers. Prepare the bud vases with water and floral food ahead. Set up some small working tables for your guests to work on with tools to cut and arrange the flowers.

From The Bride…Starting at a very young age, I knew exactly what my wedding would be like, simple yet elegant, classic and timeless. The church, venue, hair stylist, the shoes, rings, the month and even the one year engagement were already planned, the only thing truly missing was the groom. Years later, when I finally met my husband, he had a few thoughts of his own…he popped the question a half year earlier than he was “supposed” to according to my plan. I was afraid that with more time meant I would be more indecisive on the decisions that I did not already have planned, creating unnecessary stress! Looking back on our engagement I realize now how right he was to have a longer engagement. My mom and I had the time to deal with one thing at a time. And, with the help of my wedding planner, Ann Hawley, once we made a decision, we moved on to the next. Having more time meant that we did not have to rush around trying to get a few things booked at once. The time allowed us to research our vendors and book the ones we loved because we were far enough out.

Finding the right vendors was extremely important to me. I knew when my Big Day came, they would be the ones I would be interacting with and I wanted passionate, caring, creative and driven people surrounding me. I wanted their fun-loving attitudes to add to such a memorable occasion! With choosing vendors, that meant that this control freak bride had to give up some of that control, but with my vendors it was super easy to let them take the reigns. I simply told myself “they are experts in their respected field, which is why you hired them! Trust them!” Almost every vendor put my trust to the test at least once. Jessa would have Chris and I pose in some silly positions, Kate wanted ribbons to flow from the center pieces, Kevin planned to have the guests dancing, sitting, dancing, sitting, and Mike insisted that we wait to write our cards to one another until the day of, in front of the camera. Ironically, these times became some of my favorite parts about our wedding. Those silly poses lead to beautiful photographs, the lilac ribbons added a touch of elegance, the order of the night kept the guests on the dance floor longer, and writing our cards to one another on film is a priceless memory we will always treasure. Each and every one of my vendors took a little girl’s dream and made it into a real life fairytale.

Towards the middle of the reception, Jessa and Mike pulled Chris and I away to capture some footage on the docks while the sun was setting. At first I was hesitant to leave the party but I wanted those pictures! After a few short moments we were headed back to the reception. As Chris and I re-entered the reception from the back staircase we were completely overwhelmed with the scene in front of us. Our closest family and friends, who traveled from near and far, were all dancing and singing along with the band with an excessive amount of pure joy and happiness. As we stood there briefly, Chris and I realized how blessed we were to have such wonderful people in our lives. It was their contagious love and happiness for the two of us that took our breath away.

At the end of the day, every person involved in our wedding from our families, the bridal party, guests and vendors made our day magical and unforgettable.

A Rustic Outdoor Wedding At the Groom’s Family Farm

Some wedding parties want a limo, but this crew? They prefer a more laid-back ride. Driven by a tractor from the ceremony to reception, they fully embraced the family farm setting and crafted a rustic celebration personal to them. Peony Events planned, Elena Wolfe photographed and the full gallery is where you’ll find every moment.

From The Bride…We wanted our wedding to be one that “went down in the record books”, as my Dad likes to say! We were so thrilled to be sharing our love story with all of our family and friends and wanted our special day to be one that was unforgettable! Having our wedding at the farm was a perfect place for us to celebrate, as it was a special part of Peder’s childhood, and captured our easy going love that we have for each other.

Deciding on the color palette was an easy decision, we wanted our guests to truly soak in the beautiful farm surroundings. By choosing the neutral, muted tones it kept that soft-warm look that complemented the backdrop beautifully. As a bride, I enjoyed every minute of pulling together the details and honestly I think Peder did too! The ceremony space was by far our favorite crafted detail. We knew we wanted a unique space for our “I do’s” because it would be the place where we would share our vows and become officially a married couple. Even though we spent many hours hauling hay bales into place, cutting up perfectly squared pieces of fabric, and rolling whiskey barrels across the property, it was more than worth it when it all came together. The hay bales were then also used to create lounge areas for both the cocktail hour and in our reception space under the tent. This made for a great spot for our guests to sit and enjoy a drink and added a fun flair to the decor.

Since we were getting married on the farm we really needed to do a lot of the work ourselves. Although at first very overwhelming, Pete and I ended up truly enjoying designing and creating a lot of the special details together. We spent many hours up in the top of his father’s barn looking for unique wagon wheels, crates, and other fun farm items that would be great personal touches to our space. Another detail that really added to the table decor, was the barn wood planks we had as runners. This idea developed after realizing how expensive farm tables were to rent, but we still wanted some kind of wood accent.Thankfully, Peder was able to distress and stain old barn wood and it was the perfect added touch to the table designs. These details really came together in such a beautiful way and ultimately made our decor uniquely our own.

Throughout the day there were so many unbelievable moments that we will never forget; riding in a vintage 1931 Chrysler and then traveling in the back of a tractor (driven by Peder’s Dad!) with our entire bridal party and parents accompanied with coolers and hay bales, but ultimately seeing each other for the first time was by far our favorite. We chose to do a first look prior to the ceremony because we wanted that intimate moment to ourselves, and we are so thankful we did! Underneath a breathtaking willow tree, Peder and I got to take in all of the excitement and joy of years of friendship and love for each other….the big day was finally here…we were finally going to be married! The tree not only made for a stunning backdrop, but was a place on the farm that was truly special to him. We couldn’t have pictured a better place to soak in that moment.

My biggest advice for brides is to really try to enjoy all the preparations leading up to it and appreciate each of the various stages of the planning process. Peder and I (along with the help of family and friends!) created a lot of our special touches together, therefore, it made it all the more special when the big day came and we saw all of our hard work come to fruition. Also, I encourage all couples to step out, at some point during the evening’s celebration, to have a moment together, just the two of you. Peder and I left the dance floor for a few minutes and we laid by the pond in the grass, me in my gown, him in his tux, and we just breathed in all of the love and joy that day gave us. We both still talk about that moment.

From The Bride…I am a graphic designer and design guru in general, so for me, the planning was enjoyable! I knew what I wanted and I made sure I chose vendors who had the same style and taste as I did.

The wedding day was a fairytale. I know that sounds so cliche, but I was actually surprised at how magical and stress free the day went. It was a dream to me. I LOVE flowers, so going into this I knew I wanted to pay extra attention to the decor of the flowers and candles. I wanted it to feel romantic with light pale colors and touches of gold and greenery. I have a “flowy” style and I wanted that to carry through. As for the food, that was left up to Dominic since he is the chef of the family. We wanted to wow our guests with the food, since that is what we love. A giant sushi boat, Wellfleet oysters, mini mushroom bread puddings were among a few bites that guests could enjoy. To top things off, we had two food trucks pull up outside at 11:30 for the after party! No one left hungry to say the least.

An Entertainment Editor’s Wedding Brings Joy Back to the Jersey Shore

After her family’s Jersey Shore beach house burned down during Hurricane Sandy, this gorgeous Bride (a Senior Editor at HuffPost Entertainment) and her handsome Groom decided their wedding was the perfect opportunity to “bring happiness back to the shore.” From Leigh’s stunning Rosa Clara Soft gown from Lovely Bride to the vintage glass bottle centerpieces, this day is full of beauty, love and so much joy. Take it all in thanks to InfocusNYC Photography in The Vault!

From The Bride…As I’m looking back on my wedding now, I have a huge smile across my face. Wow, what a journey to get to that one day, and how special it was to see all our hard work come to life.

My husband Will and I met a bar called The Red Lion in NYC in September 2011. While enjoying a night out with my gal pals, I bumped into my friend’s brother and got to chatting. He soon introduced me to a handsome young filmmaker friend (Will) and I felt an instant connection. From there, Will asked me out through email — how weird — and we dated for the next three years, bonding over our shared interest in the Entertainment field. (I am a Senior Editor at HuffPost Entertainment and Will, as mentioned, is a freelance filmmaker.) He proposed at sunset at his New Hampshire lake house in August 2014, with a pear-shaped diamond his dad proposed to his mom with, resetting it for me with a little help from my friends. It was magical, but somehow, our wedding day trumped it all.

I knew that I wanted to get married in September (the month we met) and down the Jersey Shore, where I spent many a summer at my parents’ longtime beach house. Sadly, the house, as well as some of our neighbors’ places, had burned down in a fire during Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and my family lost not only belongings, but a place where hundreds of beloved memories were built. It was a hard few months as my parents decided whether or not it was worth it to rebuild, but after realizing how special it was to all of us, they decided to go ahead and design a modular home. After missing two summers down the shore, the house was ready by Labor Day weekend of 2014, and we were thrilled. I turned to Will and said, “We need to bring happiness back to the shore,” and so we began researching venues.

We looked at a couple of places, but nothing stood out. I began thinking we could just rent a tent and do it up at the beach, but my mom warned that weather was unpredictable and although it sounded beautiful, the risk wasn’t worth it. So, we ended up looking into the Bay Head Yacht Club, which had recently been remodeled after the storm. It was stunning, romantic, nautical and classic. Only problem? You needed to be a member or get a member to sponsor you to have a wedding there. Luckily for us, Will’s uncle happened to have a friend who was a member and he decided to allow us the chance to have the wedding of our dreams.

The BHYC has a ballroom overlooking the bay, featuring a beamed ceiling embellished with sailing flags. It’s amazing. I knew I wanted to stick with the vibe of the room, but bring a little DIY magic to it. I also knew I wanted to play with a color palette of mint, navy and gold — to focus on the beachy side of the location. So, I began collecting old vintage bottles for the centerpieces to replicate sea glass, as well as the classic feel I was going for. I found some in Brooklyn, but amazingly enough, while up in New Hampshire at the lake house one weekend, we stumbled across a man named Gary who collected said bottles as a hobby, digging them up at old farms and in backyards. We purchased 75 of his “babies,” as he called them, and promised him that they’d be put to good use.

And they were. As we worked with our florist, we decided to fill the bottles with an arrangement of flowers featured in my and my bridesmaids’ bouquets — peach garden roses, dusty miller, white sweet pea, white lisianthus and assorted greenery and ferns. I then found old fish netting and cut it up to make smaller pieces for under the bottles at each table, then I decided that some candles would tie it all together. They were simple and unique, and didn’t clash with the BHYC’s ceiling.

While on the topic of bridesmaids, I knew I wanted to do a mixture of colors for their dresses to create an ombre effect, mimicking the sea glass shades of the bottles. I decided to go with the strapless Donna Morgan Laura dress in three shades — Candy Apple for my maid and matron of honor, Beachglass for three girls and Hint of Mint for another three. (Eight ladies all together.) My mother-in-law is a jeweler — Due Sorelle — and hand-made personalized necklaces for each of my ladies with beads I helped pick out. And to tie in the navy, Will and I decided that a blue tux would be great for the guys. We found one on The Black Tux — midnight blue — and got Will and his groomsmen matching shark socks to tie in the whimsical, beach theme.

For save-the-dates, we bought a wedding stamp from Etsy store Designkandy and hand-stamped it in navy ink on a mint card. We stamped a tag with “Save the Date” and tied it with a gold string onto the mint card. For invitations, we used our stamp again for the envelope, but bought a nautical card from Paper Source. Our RSVP and wedding details were on our website, Zullove.com — #Zullove was also our wedding hashtag as “Zullo” is Will’s last name.

For my dress, I wanted something vintage-looking with a bit of flare. I went to Lovely Bride in NYC and tried on a few dresses but fell in love with the Rosa Clara Soft Ulises gown, which featured sequins and a long, embellished train. I ended up wearing my hair up for the ceremony and down for the reception, sporting a jeweled flower crown by Toni Federici. My shoes were Kate Spade. (Discounted at Nordstrom rack, always a bargain shopper!) I wore my mom’s tennis bracelet and my great grandmother’s ruby bracelet for a pop of color. My hair and makeup were done by Shear Serenity Salon in my hometown of Pearl River, NY — Sam Diliberto has been doing my hair since my junior prom. They traveled down to the shore for the big day, and stayed by my side the entire time, making me look pretty every step of the way.

My bridesmaids, mom, mother-in-law and I got ready at my parents house, while Will and his men got dressed at The Bentley Inn in Bay Head. The girls and I walked up to the beach for some pictures, and my neighbors all came out to greet me! It brought tears to my eyes. When we were done, we got into the trolley from Long Branch and headed to our ceremony.

We were married in a full Catholic mass at Sacred Heart Church. We kept it simple, doing baby’s breath and burlap bows for the aisles and having our “ring-bearers” (our baby nephews) in Janie & Jack seersucker pants and white shirts and our flower girls in Janie & Jack blueberry-striped dresses. (They were obviously the cutest part of the wedding!)

For fun, at the reception, we set up a DIY-photobooth with the help of my sister-in-law, decorating it with fish-netting, banners and fun props. We also had a “message in a bottle” and a decoupage sand castle my friend’s mom made from scratch to be featured on the place cards table. Speaking of from scratch, our cake was made by Mueller’s Bakery in Bay Head. It was a red velvet cake, died mint-colored, with cream cheese filling. The outside was white and mint with an anchor candle as the topper.

We wanted the best of both worlds when it came to music, so we had a cocktail hour band, The Brooklyn Sugar Stompers who cover 1920s Gatsby-style music, and a DJ for reception, Aria Melody DJ. Both were fantastic and I highly recommend them.

Our photographers from Infocus NYC captured our day beautifully. From getting ready to breaking it down on the dance floor, they got every moment on camera. Take a look!

A Gatsby-Esque Wedding With a Knockout Dress

It all started with one of the sweetest proposals ever.  Well, actually, it started in an LSAT prep course, but when it came time to get down on bended knee, this groom surprised his bride with a meaningful moment she will NEVER forget.  Follow that up with a vintage-inspired love fest overflowing with gorgeous details (think Beacon Lane invites and a stunning Johanna Johnson gown from Gabriella New York) and it’s a happy, happy Wednesday.  See it all captured by Kelly Kollar in THE VAULT.

From the Bride… Randy and I met in law school. Technically, Randy noticed me first in our LSAT prep course (when I was in college) but he didn’t tell me that until the night of our first kiss. We became friends when interning together and started dating our last year of law school.

Randy proposed in our apartment after we finished decorating our Christmas tree. I was very close with my grandmother and she passed away right before Thanksgiving in November 2014. We had been at my parents’ house for the week helping with the arrangements and services. When we traveled back to Hoboken that Sunday, Randy suggested that, to cheer me up, we get our Christmas tree a little early (he knows how much I love a real tree in the house). All of our Christmas ornaments are from my grandma – who had been buying me collectible dollhouse and Barbie ornaments since I was born. She had also been buying Yankees and Giants ornaments for Randy since we started dating. We decorated the tree with each of her ornaments as a tribute to her. When we were done, I went to the bedroom to get something and when I came out, Randy was kneeling in front of the tree. The proposal was private, personal, and perfect.

We began to plan the wedding a month or so later. Because we wanted a summer or fall wedding, we thought we would have trouble finding a venue so put that first on our list. I had originally envisioned an outdoor wedding with a big tented reception complete with “twinkly lights.” However, I was nervous about the unpredictable weather and no contingency plan for rain. However, after one look at Hamilton Farm, we didn’t have to worry about that. Hamilton Farm not only has a beautiful mansion, but also a large addition with floor to ceiling windows and a beautiful tent swept under it for the reception. The mansion, lawns, patio, and tent provided every element we were looking for no matter the weather (as it turns out we had picture perfect weather on our wedding day). I knew that “getting ready” with my mom and bridesmaids would be almost as fun as the wedding itself and the mansion’s bedrooms and “drawing room” provided the perfect backdrop for a beautiful morning (and beautiful photos!) with my favorite girls.

The dress was probably my favorite part of wedding planning. I booked a weekend of appointments at various NYC bridal salons and my bridesmaids, mom, and mother in law all took turns coming to appointments. I have been to my fair share of weddings and knew I wanted a dress that was different from those I had seen, but also classic and timeless. At Gabriella New York, I found my three favorite dresses – each was a completely different style. We left for one more appointment and then called Gabriella to see if we could come back later that evening to make a final selection. I tried on all three dresses again and knew that the Johanna Johnson dress would be the one. I loved the classic, almost regal front of the dress contrasted with the low sweeping back. The Gabriella staff was amazing and let us hang in their beautiful loft for hours toasting to the final dress selection. I don’t think I took the dress off the whole time.

Once we had the venue and I picked my dress, the wedding began to take on an Art Deco or Gatsby-esque feel. Everything fell into place – invitations, flowers, bridesmaid dresses. I chose a muted color palette of blush pinks and subtle grays. The bridesmaids wore blush dresses from BHLDN and the groomsmen wore gray suits from Ralph Lauren, where Randy works.

Hamilton Farm provided the perfect backdrop for an elegant affair, but also allowed us to add our own personal touches to the day. For example, knowing that our 4-year-old ring bearer was a little shy and loved all things power wheels, we had him drive down the aisle in his new F150.  He definitely stole the show. My favorite moment of the wedding was probably watching Randy perform The Humpty Dance onstage with our band.

About two hours into the reception my best friend grabbed me from the dance floor and told me to “stop and look around.” I was so happy I did. Seeing the dance floor filled with all the people we love the most dancing, singing, and enjoying the wonderful party that we somehow pulled off was definitely a magical moment. I know time is precious at every wedding, but I would encourage all brides and grooms to take a quiet moment together to step back and take a good hard look at the culmination of all their hard work.

From Carolina Rivera PhotographyColleen and Bill’s wedding was set with the beautiful landscape of New Jersey’s luscious greens, at Willowwood Arboretum in Chester, NJ. That’s one of the things I love about New Jersey, is the variety and depth of locations, that can go from rural, to city, to beach, to mountain, but back to this wedding! – Set amongst the tall grasses, the beautiful flowers and trees in season, so many places to stimulate the senses, and an all outdoor wedding in the summer is just perfect. The in-season food, the subtle decorations to compliment the already existing natural ones, the farm to table look to go with nature, and the crazy live band was a perfect combination for an amazing night. The bride and the groom were also both crossfitters, so their hashtag #starcrossfitlovers was appropriately named for these two, who dropped down in the middle of the dance floor to do push ups together.

Classic + Elegant French-Themed Estate Wedding

I think I’ve died and gone to wedding heaven. Not only does this wedding feature the most beautiful Oscar de la Renta wedding dress, but it also has a pair of Chanel sandals that would make even Cinderella jealous. And that’s just the start. After seeing their engagement session, I knew this couple would have a beautiful wedding, and with help from Peony Events and Laura Clare Design, they definitely did. See it all from Paul Francis Photography in The Vault!

From Paul Francis PhotographyThis beautiful wedding has details galore! They were honored to have SMP Publish their French themed engagement session (the groom is French).

From The Bride…Choosing a theme for our wedding was simple given the story and background of Victor and myself. I met Victor in The Bahamas on spring break in college. We were both seniors at different universities, but happened to be on the same spring break. I locked eyes with Victor right away and then when we started talking, I was immediately swept off my feet by his French accent! So, fast forward a few years later in June of 2013 when I arrived in his hometown of Nice in the South of France with my family. When we arrived, Victor took me to a small, romantic village in the South of France while my family met up with his family. He proposed to me that night and we spent the night together celebrating over a beautiful dinner in the countryside of France. We celebrated the next few days with our families and friends. As soon as we got back to the U.S., we started our wedding venue search immediately. Being from New Jersey, we were looking for places near where I grew up, as I knew it was really important and special to my mom to be able to get ready and leave from the house I grew up in. I was between a few places, but really wanted to make sure I found a venue that Victor and I connected with. When we saw The Park Savoy in Florham Park, NJ, we knew this was the place for us. What I loved most about The Park Savoy is that it had a classic, American aesthetic that coincided with my heritage, yet at the same time, when you entered the ballroom there were so many details that reminded me of being in France, for example the beautiful molding, chandeliers and sconces. Not to mention that I knew The Park Savoy was really well known for their impeccable service and abundance of food! So, once I saw the ballroom, I knew that my love for all things French would play a large role in the décor for our big day.

We had almost a two year engagement because I knew I wanted to be a summer bride and there were limited days left that I could choose from. So, I had a long time to think and plan my wedding day. For colors, I knew I wanted soft tones – so I was so excited to see that Amsale came out with a new palette of colors in their lace collection. I went with blush, dove grey and champagne for my bridesmaids. I had nine girls, so I had three girls in each color dress and they chose different necklines from Amsale’s lace collection. I chose the lace because I thought it was different and went perfectly with our French theme. When I found my wedding dress, I was immediately drawn to the applique flowers and wanted that to be a detail throughout different décor elements on the day of. For example, the flowers in my hair were similar to the ones on my dress and when I saw Chanel made shoes with similar floral details, I knew I had to have them! I even designed my cake to match my dress and it had the same design and pattern of the flowers on my gown.

My flowers were a mix of blushes, ivories, and soft greenery like dusty miller. Not only did I want the colors to be very light and romantic in look and feel, but I also wanted all the flower arrangements to appear loose and organic. My wedding planner and I worked closely with my florist to develop a look that went with the vibe of the venue, but also complemented myself and my bridesmaids. Each bridesmaid carried pink astilbe as their bouquet with some dusty miller accents that were tied with lace to match back to their dresses. I also bought them crystal earrings that were the same shape as the floral appliques on my dress.

When guests arrived at the venue, we had a life-size vintage bicycle planter with flowers coming out of the baskets and two signs, one saying “welcome” and the other “bienvenue.” When the guests walked into the entrance of The Park Savoy , their Escort Cards were placed in beds of lavender seeds surrounded by vases and candles. Nearby, was our guest book which was not a traditional guest book, but instead a “Love Lock Bridge” (like the one in Paris!) where guests would sign their names on a wooden vintage tag that was connected to a lock and they would then discard the key. I fell in love with mirrored signs with calligraphy writing, so had those throughout the venue. My favorite was our Signature Cocktail mirrored sign which told guests about our French inspired drink “Lavender Lemonade.” Around the perimeter of the ballroom were vintage chairs and chaises, so on each were either French inspired pillows or the bridesmaids pink astilbe bouquets. At the sweetheart table, our chairs had laser cut mirrored calligraphy signs – one saying “madame” and the other “monsieur.” As favors we gave Rose wine from the region of Provence, France. Something else that was unique to our wedding was that we had a live painter capturing the evening.

Looking back at the photos from our wedding day, I have such great memories. Although the planning of every detail can be daunting, it all came together beautifully in the end, especially with the help of my wedding planner who understood my vision inside out. All of our vendors were amazing and played a part in making our day so special. We were so pleased with everything and I was so happy to see my inspiration come to life on our big day!

Whimsical New Jersey Wedding on New Years Eve

Let this next celebration illustrate the magic that is a NYE wedding. I mean, imagine ringing in the new year married to the one you love?! Pretty incredible, right? Just as this darling pair and they’ll tell you, planning a midnight celebration was one of the best decisions ever. Complete with loved ones and whimsical details, Love & Light Photographs captured it all to share in The Vault!

From the Bride… Even before we were engaged we talked about having a New Year’s Eve wedding. Bringing in the New Year with all of our closest friends and family by our side sounded like a perfect way to celebrate our vows. We wanted our wedding to feel like an escape without requiring any air travel for our guests. Corey and I are both from the Jersey Shore and would often take day trips out to places like New Hope, Princeton and Lambertville. When we came across the Lambertville Inn we knew it was perfect. The venue is situated right on the Delaware River across from New Hope, Pennsylvania which allowed our guests to explore both Lambertville and New Hope throughout the weekend.

While New Year’s Eve can be a pretty fancy evening, Corey and I are pretty casual people so we wanted the dress code and decor to fall somewhere in between. Our Navy and Grey color scheme was simple but classic. Our cream flowers brightened up the evening and succulents scattered throughout the bouquets and boutonnieres added in a touch of green. Our wedding coordinator, Lisa Manning of Kings Park, NY, added the perfect touches to our decor. She went with a clock theme for the New Year and scattered mercury glass votives and vases throughout the reception which added an element of elegance. Each noise maker was hand painted with silver glitter and there were giant decanters of New Year’s Eve beads, masks and horns. Lisa even had a “clock” wall built for our photo booth backdrop.

In the end, our wedding was everything we could have hoped for. We had great music provided by both a band and a DJ and our guests were on the dance floor for the majority of the evening. When the clock struck midnight, we all celebrated with a champagne toast and a pretty great rendition of Auld Lang Syne. One of the great things about a New Year’s Eve wedding is that we can always celebrate our anniversary with our friends and family for years to come.
