From Inspiration to Reality: The Design

Okay. Grab a cup of coffee or a cocktail (it’s noon somewhere right) and have yourself a very comfortable seat. This From Inspiration to Reality shoot isn’t your standard wedding fare. It’s so much more. A little bit masculine, a little bit feminine. A little bit high fashion, a little bit vintage. A little bit pretty, a little bit gorgeous. It’s a blend of everything I love, done with a delicate hand and an eye for design. Big, big props to Tracey of Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge, Chelsea Nicole, Tifany of Gourmet Invitations, Shannon of Emplume, Naakiti Floral Design,  and all of the other vendors (full list below) for putting together such great eye candy…

From the moment Chelsea Nicole and I found out about the “Inspiration to Reality” features, we were both on the same page in wanting to give Style Me Pretty readers a glimpse into a different side of Las Vegas; one that evoked the glamour that was the early hey days of this fabulous city! Our entire Las Vegas creative team was absolutely thrilled when we found this stunner of an Inspiration Board called, “Fur & Feathers” that was created by Chiara. The weathered luggage, fur (but only faux for us) and feathers made us think of the movie, “The Aviator” about the legendary Howard Hughes who is as much a part of the “dreamer-can-do” spirit, history and development of Las Vegas as Bugsy Siegel is. As we browsed through the production still images from the movie we became increasingly giddy about our choice knowing it was a perfect way to tie the essence and style of this inspiration board to our unique location in Vegas. Hollywood and Las Vegas have always shared an allure of design, fashion and love of the good times since the 40’s. Alas, starlets in beautiful, demure, vintage inspired designer gowns and handsome men dressed sharp in tuxedos or dinner jackets may not be the scene d’jour anymore, but for us it was a dream we made come true to inspire you all to “Return to Desert Glamour”.

An Un-Vegas Wedding From Your Las Vegas Concierge

Today’s featured Little Black Book member is Tracey Kumer-Moore of Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge. Planning destination weddings in Las Vegas is Tracey’s specialty!  She’ll help you with everything from start to finish ~ leaving you to bask in the fun and celebration.  Vegas weddings can run the gamut from stylish and sophisticated to theme-based or whimsical and everything in between. But, there is one thing that they all have in common. Your guests are sure to have a blast!

Granted, not all Vegas weddings are destination weddings, but since the vast majority of them are, it’s critical that you find an expert like Tracey who specializes in making your wedding weekend stress-free … one that you and your guests will never forget!

And now, from  Tracey and Elizabeth (today’s beautiful bride)…

Our wedding ended up being a destination wedding… sort of!  Las Vegas is our “home town” at present, but almost all of our family and friends would be journeying to our wedding from all over the US and Europe. We realized we were getting married in the quickie drive-through wedding capital of the world, but we absolutely wanted a sophisticated, modern wedding that was full of unique details and reflected our personalities. We also wanted our out of town guests to know how honored we were that they made the trip, and so it was very important to us to throw a super fun and unforgettable wedding that would be the highlight of their Las Vegas experience. With those ideas in mind, we set about assembling our “Dream Team” of wedding professionals.

WEDDING VENUE
The Four Seasons Hotel was the best of all possible worlds for us—it’s an intimate non-gaming, non-smoking property at the southern end of The Strip (which appealed to us), but it’s within walking distance of several big resort casinos (which we knew would appeal to our guests). The Fountain Terrace itself is like an oasis of calm and beauty in the midst of vibrant non-stop Las Vegas. It features a picturesque waterfall, lush landscaping and seasonal flowers, and dramatic up-lit statues. What Andy and I loved about it was that being on the Terrace, you could almost forget you were in the middle of noisy non-stop, Las Vegas, until you looked up and saw the golden tower of neighboring Mandalay Bay Resort stretching to the sky. We felt like the juxtaposition perfectly captured exactly what we wanted for our un-Vegas Vegas wedding!

FLORAL DESIGN
We told Randi Garrett of Naakiti Floral Design that we didn’t want a single rose anywhere in any of our wedding flowers, and that we liked materials like reeds, moss, rocks, grasses, Lucite and stainless steel. She didn’t bat an eyelash! She created our chuppah as a modern, geometric structure with black wrought iron columns and sheer white silk panels with white pillar candles glowing from behind. The result was a soft yet modern silhouette. The rest of the ceremony design included a custom white runner lined in our lime color flanked by alternating arrangements of high horsetails with moss beds and low black lacquer trays of floating green and white orchids. Flowers for the cocktail hour and reception followed in this vein, with lots of bamboo, wheat grass, orchids, and votive candles. One of the most important design elements of our wedding ended up being our reception linen choice: a crinkled white taffeta with a thick black floral design winding through. We carried this theme everywhere!

OUR INVITATIONS
First, we had custom invitations designed by Tifany, the genius of Gourmet Invitations. Tifany created all the paper products for our wedding using variations on this black and white floral graphic accented with lime green: a seating chart with our dinner menu, table numbers, postage stamps, bar menus, and thank you cards. The reception linen inspired graphic even made its way on to our cake and on to the pages our wedding album!

OUR CAKE
Our cake was truly a work of art. It was a square, three tiered confection of alternating layers of vanilla sponge cake and mango mousse and chocolate sponge cake with milk chocolate hazelnut praline filling. It was white featuring our signature floral graphic done in black fondant, and was topped with a custom topper of our “miniature family”: a four-inch tall recreation of me, my husband, and our two pugs Grover and Petunia! Not only was our wedding attire correctly depicted on the figurines, but the pugs’ blue dog tags were too. {Cake topper from Nicole W Clark)

OUR CELEBRATION
Throughout the evening, Andy and I tried to incorporate as many details as possible that were uniquely “us”. Our ketubah {from Micah Parker Artworks) was a nod to Roy Lichtenstein (a fun comic book rendition of a groom’s foot stomping on a glass, and a comic book style voice bubble crying “Mazeltov!” in the background).  We used “green” as more than just one of our colors, and purchased our recycled platinum and diamond wedding bands from eco-friendly jeweler Brilliant Earth.

Music was another top priority for us. We didn’t want a DJ spinning the same ubiquitous songs that we’ve all heard a million times. We loved the idea of live music, but also recognized its limitations when playing more contemporary songs our younger guests would appreciate. Our compromise? We got a band AND a DJ! The Steve Beyer Band provided all musical entertainment for the evening. It was a perfect blend and a real chance to showcase our musical personalities. We relied solely on the DJ for our ceremony music. As our guests were arriving, they were serenaded by classical string arrangements of all our favorite contemporary pop songs. It was great to hear guests were asking each other “Is this Nirvana?” or “I’m pretty sure this is a U2 song”. For the processional, it was all covers of favorite pop tunes—my husband entered with his parents to the Eagles of Death Metal’s version of Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love”, and I walked down the aisle to a remix of Pete Townshend’s “Let My Love Open the Door”. Our guests spent the cocktail hour following the ceremony on the winding path adjacent to the Fountain Terrace, where they listened to the sounds of the band’s jazz guitarist.

In keeping with our wedding colors, I’d made a slight costume change and added a thick black satin sash and black patent Manolo Blahniks to my romantic lace Monique L’Huillier strapless gown from Couture Bride Salon. Andy and I made our grand entrance to the band playing “Walking on Sunshine”, and in lieu of our first dance (which we had midway through the reception), we transitioned directly into a rousing Horah. Getting lifted up on those chairs was fun but scary!

We had two signature cocktails: the Meddling Moms Martini (in honor of our mothers, who set us up), and the Parisian Picnic (in honor of Paris, the site of our engagement). When cocktail hour was finished, the guests made their way back into the Fountain Terrace, which had been transformed into all its reception glory.

Our final surprise of the evening happened around 11 PM, when servers began passing trays of frozen Eskimo Pies and spiked Root Beer floats, and the fresh, hot doughnut station opened! As if that wasn’t enough food, we also had a savory snack of French Fries and Tater Tots in paper cones for those with a salty tooth.

We truly had the wedding of our dreams. We kept it very small, so each and every guest was a beloved friend or family member. We infused our modern-looking wedding with sentimental touches like using the Kiddush cup and tallis from Andy’s Bar Mitzvah during our ceremony.

OUR WEDDING PLANNER

When Tracey showed us a three inch binder containing all the planning notes, vendor contracts and important documents from a wedding she had just coordinated, we knew she was the one for us! Her expertise and professional connections got us off to a great start and kept us on track up until the band played the last song at our reception.

In a city that can be lovingly synonymous with all thing Elvis and kitsch, we had an elegant, sophisticated wedding that we felt was really “out of the box” in all the best possible ways. Our wedding was everything we had hoped and imagined it would be. And best of all? It was all just icing on the wedding cake, since we were finally married to each other!

Destination Wedding: Eva & Lukas in Las Vegas

Eva & Lukas met online through friends ~ within a week, they decided to meet for cocktails face to face! They talked and flirted all night and have been inseparable ever since!

LBB Photographer Chelsea Nicole sent in today’s featured wedding, shot on the VERY popular wedding date this year: September 9, 2009 … the marriage of Eva and Lukas at Caeser’s Palace in the Venus Garden in Las Vegas!

According to Chelsea … “The couple loves to travel and decided that Las Vegas was the perfect destination for their families to meet up ~ coming from Switzerland, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Canada! Before the ceremony, Eva and Lukas had a first sight, which allowed for some romantic alone time. After the ceremony, they had an intimate reception at Giorgio’s Ristorante with their closest family and friends.”

Other wedding vendors that contributed to their lovely day include Colleen with Posh Productions, The Palette ~ Floral Design Services, and Cake Designs.

How romantic! How incredibly fun!

A huge Congrats to Eva & Lukas!! And thanks, Chelsea for sharing with us!!

A Little Bit Vintage, A Little Bit Rock ‘n Roll, III

Okay, moving on to the incredibly lovely wedding that KT Merry sent us. Apparently, the brides is a big SMP fan so hopefully she found a lot of inspiration right here!

From KT…

Jen and Mike were married in their backyard in Gardnerville , Nevada.  Mike’s Uncle catered, Jen’s sister did makeup and the whole family helped get things ready.  They had a beautiful ceremony followed by nostalgic reception.  They had a slideshow and read an account of how the two met.  After toasts Jen danced with her father who requested she but on her cowgirl boots.  It was lovely!

Perfection!! Thank you so much to KT Merry for sharing. If you are in need of a little wedding eye candy, check out KT’s blog…it’s fabulous.

When I saw these photographs by KT Merry, I literally gasped. They are shockingly gorgeous. Every element just adds up to total perfection…the wheat (is that wheat?), the incredible gown, the chic bride, the horse, the touch of pink in her hairpiece. How do I count the ways????

kt merry

I mean seriously. Does it get any more beautiful? My first thought when I saw these was that the photographer was sending me pics from a fashion shoot. Not a real wedding. KT Merry’s work with these photographs is stunning, beyond stunning.

And those amazing flowers were designed by Thran’s Flowers. The wedding is coming up next…a sweet, backyard affair filled to the brim with friends and family!

You guys are going to LOVE this wedding. It’s kind of eclectic…with punk touches and perfect, shabby chic details. Plus, there is a series of photographs in a wheat field that is literally going to make you fall over. They are just that gorgeous.

Shot by the fabulous KT Merry, this bride just might be the prettiest I’ve ever seen!

I’m sorry, but isn’t she incredible? The A-A-AAAAMAZING hair piece was found on etsy (still working on finding out the source). This wedding just gets better and better, I promise. So much more in just a bit!

Your “Vegas Wedding Style” Is Showing, II

Today, our Little Black Book guest-blogger is Tracey Kumer-Moore, Your Las Vegas Concierge.

“Las Vegas has always been the ultimate American Destination Wedding spot. In an economy where people may not be able to afford to travel as far for a destination wedding, Las Vegas is considered one of the top three fine dining destinations in the country. It has some of the most luxurious resorts, the best shopping, entertainment, nightlife, and 350 degrees of sunshine. Now that is what I call a DESTINATION! Beyond the traditional “chapels” there are incredible ballrooms, venue outdoor spaces, scenic country clubs as well as other resorts off the strip that are anything but the commercial Vegas wedding venues. Las Vegas is moving away from the ‘theme’ oriented resorts and the city is much more cosmopolitan, sophisticated, stylish and chic.”

Photography by Chelsea Nicole

Tracey enlisted the aid of Las Vegas photographers Ashley Bartoletti and Little Black Book member Chelsea Nicole to express their thoughts about Vegas-style weddings …

Q: What do you love about shooting weddings off the strip at some of our other amazing properties around town?

AB: When shooting off the strip, the best part is having space to shoot and a little less chaos. I love being able to utilize big grassy areas and other natural elements. It is also really nice to get away with the bride and groom, and have it be just the three of us, rather than having 100’s of strangers passing you by. There are so many great locations off strip, from golf and country clubs to some really unique and intimate restaurants. There really is something for everyone.

Q: What is one little known fact about Las Vegas Wedding Style you have discovered as a Las Vegas based photographer that you want to share with the LBB readers?

AB: Many of the hotels on the strip include photography in their packages, which tend to be very stiff and not very creative. Some hotels will allow you to bring in an outside photographer instead. It is important to research what each hotel offers, includes, allows and considers upgrades and charges for. If photography is something that is important to you, I really recommend investing in an outside photographer that really suits your personal style so you get exactly what you want.

CN: Your guests will absolutely love a Las Vegas wedding! This is one thing that might not be immediately apparent. Vegas is unique in that, for the most part, you don’t have to entertain your guests while they’re here. They entertain themselves. During the hectic times of finalizing wedding plans, this can be a welcome relief. There’s something fun and exciting for them to do 24-hours a day. From the clubs, slots, fantastic food and shows, you’ll be guaranteed that you and your guests will have an amazing time that will not soon be forgotten. Just make sure to choose a great photographer to capture it all!

And a final word from Tracey about Las Vegas weddings …

Take a cue from our city … Be bold, daring and think outside the box about how you want your wedding to feel and be remembered. Your guests will be so excited to come to Las Vegas with you! Take advantage of the abundant, amazing live talent, event resources and unique ideas our city offers to help you put on an amazing event with unexpected, memorable touches!

Wow! She’s convinced me!

A huge thank you to Tracey, Ashley and Chelsea for some very convincing evidence that a Las Vegas Style Wedding would be oh-so special!

Your “Vegas Wedding Style” Is Showing!

We’re so happy to have Tracey Kumer-Moore, Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge, guest blogging for us on the Little Black Book Blog today! When she first offered to share her passion about Las Vegas as the perfect Destination Wedding venue, we thought it was such a great idea! Way too many people can’t get past the stereotypical Vegas concept … but Las Vegas … on and off-strip … has so very much more to offer couples seeking a destination wedding. We’re super-excited for Tracey to share with us!

from Tracey …

As a Las Vegas wedding consultant who works with couples from all over the world, I have the pleasure of collaborating with some amazingly talented wedding professionals. Two of our local photographers, Ashley Bartoletti & Little Black Book member Chelsea Nicole, were gracious enough to share their feelings and their photos.

Q: How would you describe the style of Las Vegas weddings that sets us apart from other cities?

AB: EVERY wedding has its own STYLE. What sets us apart from other cities is that Vegas offers the ultimate wedding experience for couples who want it all!  Since many Vegas weddings are destination weddings, it often becomes a whole weekend event, involving shows, restaurants, and other activities. As for the wedding itself, there are SO many options to really personalize it.

Photography by Ashley Bartoletti

CN: Las Vegas has a fresh, alternative, and funky style that attracts vibrant couples from all over the world. Vegas IS variety. From classy chic to rock-star glam, from small and intimate to full-blown ballroom gala events, this city definitely has got you covered!

Photography by Chelsea Nicole

TKM: For me, Vegas wedding-style is bold and shiny, sophisticated, edgy, and daring. It’s global and cosmopolitan, relaxed and refined. But it is also welcoming, hospitable, warm, fun, engaging, a little silly and always big-hearted and open to new ideas and taking chances.  Vegas is the best place to celebrate your love and your style…with STYLE!

Las Vegas!

Q: There was a commercial for Las Vegas that says ‘Your Vegas is Showing!’  Remember? How do you get the ‘Vegas Wedding Style’ to show in your images and events?

AB:  Some clients embrace the Las Vegas ambiance; in that case it is easy to bring out Vegas-style by creating fun, sexy, colorful images, as well as utilize all the interesting backgrounds and lights that Vegas has to offer . Each client is different, though … not all clients want that.

Photography by Ashley Bartoletti

Photography by Ashley Bartoletti

CN: Vegas is glamorous, it’s exciting! Its adventure and its vibrant! And shhhhhh, it’s also a tiny bit sexy. The appeal of Vegas is that it allows us all to be playful, passionate, and just a little daring. It tends to bring out a little spark of blissful freedom in my couples and that’s what I love to capture.

Photography by Chelsea Nicole

TKM: As an event planner, it’s what I do and love…helping couples express their version of Las Vegas wedding style and turning a space into their unique place in time for one special night. In every aspect, from invitations to décor, flowers to lighting, cake to cocktails and entertainment, I collaborate with my clients and talented dedicated professionals to capture that feeling and turn it into a living, breathing celebration of their lifestyle, and style and love.

More to come from Tracey … Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge

Real Wedding: Audrey and Brandon, III

We are featuring one of my cute high school friend’s gorgeous wedding today! Audrey and Brandon were married in an intimate, incredibly personal ceremony at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas…

From Audrey…

Lisa Garcia helped us plan an after ceremony hour long cocktail and appetizer party for our guests while we took our family pictures. This was held in the same room as the pre-wedding cocktail party. For the reception we did a 5 course sit down dinner. I got the cake idea from a design I found on the Martha Stewart wedding website and actually appears in The Best of Martha Stewart Living Weddings book. I liked the design because it reminded me of the lace detail on my dress.  No DJ or band and dancing but that’s exactly what we wanted, a simple sit down dinner. Plus we figured in Vegas everyone could party it up after if they wanted. Although it seemed no one did after the long heavy meal!

The Wynn photographers, Joan Fuller, Director of Photographic Services, and Jennifer LaRocca were incredible and became our favorite part of the wedding! If any of your readers decide to have their wedding at the Wynn they must use these girls! Also, a quick thank you to Megan Lynch, the Assistant Wedding Consultant and the Videographers Ryan Arcoraci and Kwame Agyemang. Every part of the Wynn team made this wedding so special!

Thank you so much, Audrey!!! I had no doubt that you would pull off an absolutely gorgeous affair. Oh and check out Audrey’s Blog, Chic Girl Style when you have some time! More to come, stay tuned…
