Nebraskan Home with Southern Flair

Editor’s Note: A big career shift can be scary, but this SMP Alum (just take a peek at her gorgeous engagement shoot and truly fabulous wedding) took the big leap into interior design with pretty flawless execution! Take a tour of this classic southern Nebraska home – designed by Belinda Pabian and photographed by Jessica Blex – and see just what we mean!

It’s not often we see Nebraska homes get featured, and I think this one is worthy. This story infuses my passion of going after a new career endeavor, alongside a relatable story of transforming a home to suit one’s taste, as so many people are spending more time at home considering this very thing.

After years spent in the advertising agency world, my passion and love for interiors that are comfortable, functional and beautiful lead me to open my business, Belinda Pabian Interior Decorating & Styling. After working long hours daily in advertising, decorating my home became my creative outlet in the evenings and on the weekends.

I would share my home on social media, and that led me to get freelance interior design jobs. After I listed my first home for sale, I received a number of calls with inquiries requesting help with decorating homes, and that’s when I decided to go all in on my own business.

The Toalson family was one of those families. They are empty-nesters, who saw the value in upgrading their living spaces to reflect their style. They have a beautiful cape cod home in a historic neighborhood in Nebraska.

We infused a transitional design aesthetic, with touches of Southern coastal charm, to make a unique space. The couple has spent a good deal of time in the South visiting their daughter, and love the interiors from that region, so that served as much of the inspiration.

We achieved this look with a neutral base, infused subtle pops of color and used some of their existing antiques while adding a few more.

This Couple Said “I Do” Under a 25′ Art Installation at Their Celestial Inspired Wedding

This wedding day is out of this world… no, really… their design was inspired by celestial references, metallic finishes and ethereal vibes. Lovestruck Events turn this couple’s dream mythological wedding into a reality, leaving no detail unturned. The full gallery captured by Jessica Blex Photography Design is an absolute MUST – if not just for the unreal floral arrangements by the talented flower wizards at Bouquet.

From Lovestruck EventsBrooke and Harrison were married at a private property in September. Their wedding was inspired by an art installation at the wedding site – a 25′ tall stainless steel tree entitled Dada by Supodh Gupta. Brooke knew she wanted to be married at the base of the tree, so we designed their wedding celebration to complement the hyper-reflective and mythological qualities of the art piece. The wedding design combined metallic finishes, celestial references, and design elements that felt both organic and etherial. The wedding invitations featured lunar illustrations printed on vellum paper with subtle iridescent flecks.

Matte silver foil printing on grey paper added tonal modernity and elegance to the suite. Brooke wore a custom Hayley Paige gown with a lavender-grey Dori skirt and appliqué Pascal top. For the reception, she wore a simplistic Rebecca Schoneveld gown with an Alexandra Grecco cape accented with delicate celestial beadwork. Harrison wore a textured black and charcoal suit. The bridesmaids wore Amsale Eden gowns in Dove to complement Brooke’s voluminous skirt. The color palette was a surprising combination of warm autumnal tones including taupe, mauve, and rust mixed with pastel cool tones to tie in the etherial qualities of Brooke’s wedding gown. The wedding flowers included koko loko garden roses, butterfly ranunculus, and lisianthus in the warm tones with pops of periwinkle scabiosa and lavender delphinium, Japanese anemone and toad lily. Painted dried palms were incorporated into the placed floral to add angular radial shapes, reminiscent of stars, to the soft-bloomed flower mix.

For the ceremony, Brooke processed down a natural walkway of lush grapevines before joining Harrison at the base of the Dada Tree. The ceremony design was kept simple to allow the art installation to shine. Acrylic cane chairs and an acrylic officiant podium were accented with artful floral arrangements. During cocktail hour, guests were offered passed wine and signature moscow mules along with an assortment of savory bites. Passed items were served on petrified wood and capiz shell trays to reference the Dada Tree. Servers wore lavender linen aprons embellished with star pins. We helped the mother of the bride coordinate a surprise for the couple. While the couple was off taking post-ceremony photos, we lined up the guests in the tall grasses leading to the tent and handed out wire mesh wands with the guests’ seating assignments wrapped around the wand handles. When they returned from photos, Brooke and Harrison lead the way to dinner under a tunnel of glowing light. Guests were welcomed into the sailcloth dinner tent by a floral arch featuring lunar-inspired painted discs and handmade wire mesh flowers.

Thirty woven wire pendant lights swirled with whimsical baby’s breath clouds were suspended over the dance floor and created a focal point inside the tent. Guest Tables were layered with metallic silver linens with a birch bark pattern. Matte grey ceramic chargers stacked with hand-painted glass plates added depth to the place settings along with two-toned gold flatware and letterpress menus. Centerpieces included the unique mix of wedding blooms and were arranged with artful flower offshoots for a “shooting star” effect. Dinner was served as the sun was setting. Dessert included mini sour cream pound cake with lemon mascarpone cakelets wrapped with white chocolate and edible silver leaf. The individual desserts were served on hand-painted acrylic discs. French macarons splattered with metallic paint served as favors and were wrapped in printed vellum secured with an embossed silver seal. The favors were packaged in custom letterpress boxes with a velvet ribbon pull. As the evening drew to a close, Brooke and Harrison surprised their guests with McDonald’s cheeseburgers served in hawking trays customized with the well-known jingle from the fast food chain. Guests danced under the mesh pendants and sung along to their favorite songs until the event’s joyful conclusion.

The Night They First Met Became the Inspiration Behind Their Entire Wedding Day – and It Was Perfect.

Her effortlessly romantic dress, the soft lavender and peach blooms, the venue… these are just a few things we can’t stop obsessing over in today’s wedding planned by Lovestruck Events. The darling couple met on a crisp Spring night in the bride’s hometown. In a moment of kismet, they saw each other from across the bar and their connection couldn’t be denied. They talked for ours outside on a park bench as the bride glanced up and saw the budding trees and delicate blooms around them – it was the perfect inspiration for their Spring wedding day, two years later. We couldn’t be more in love with this couple or these photos by Jessica Blex Photography & Design – check out the full gallery here!

From Lovestruck EventsBetsy and Ryan’s wedding color palette was inspired by the peach and blush tones of the grand staircase at Joslyn Art Museum. We installed a clear top tent at the base of the stairs. Rather than walking straight to the tent from the museum parking lot, we invited guests to take the long route to the tent through the sculpture garden.

Betsy and Ryan’s guests were greeted with signature cocktails and passed canapés. Lanterns lit the path to the tent where large wooden planters were filled with dogwood, seasonal greens, and hand-lettered seating assignment posters. The sun set as wedding guests dined, so the soft patio bulbs strung from the tent and the warm candlelight on the tables created a warm glow in the tent. Guests were served a nontraditional wedding dessert of valrhona jivara milk chocolate mousse with a dark chocolate cake center. Each chocolate dome was topped with a chocolate ring and edible gold foil.

How They Met:

From the Bride… Our meeting happened by chance in late spring two years before we said “I do,” so we wanted our wedding to embody all things spring. The night we met, Ryan had dinner plans with a buddy at a restaurant that wasn’t open on that particular evening, so on a whim, they decided to go to a different restaurant and sat at the bar top for dinner. I was newly back in our hometown after working in a different city for several years. I was making rounds reconnecting with old friends when I stopped into that very same restaurant to say a quick hi to the bartender, a friend from college. That was the night that Ryan and I met for the first time, but it felt like we had known each other for years – lifetimes, maybe. We eventually made our way outside to a park bench and talked for hours catching each other up on what we had missed out on in one another’s lives. I remember looking up at the trees and seeing the bright green of the budding trees and blooms around us. This, I thought, this is the beginning of something I never want to forget.

About the Design & Advice:

The crisp spring air, bright greens, and soft fluttery flowers of that spring night became the inspiration for our wedding vibe. My advice to brides and grooms out there in the thick of planning their wedding is to pick two or three “must-have” items for your wedding and stick to them. The rest of your wedding details? Leave it to the creatives. This rule truly saved me from sweating the small stuff and being overly stressed out during the wedding planning year.

My must-haves were 1. A tent reception 2. Greens, greens, and more whimsical greens, and lastly 3. A band. For the rest of the details I enlisted the help of my amazing wedding planners, Candace and Lindsay, at Lovestruck. They did such a good job listening to our vision and bringing it to life. Every detail was perfect and we couldn’t have been any happier with how it turned out!

French Garden Wedding in Omaha at Happy Hollow Country Club

As I sit here wrapped in my favorite faux fur blanket warding off the early winter chill, this July wedding designed by Lovestruck Events is warming my soul. From the Bride’s stunning strapless number to the French garden-style details to the signature ice cream dessert (best. idea. ever.)—it is summer wedding goodness wrapped up into one pretty package captured by The Mullers.

From Lovestruck EventsEmily and Joey were married on a surprisingly cool July day. The bride wore a Monique Lhuiller gown, and the groom wore a custom black suit. We selected various Jenny Yoo floor-length gowns in Serenity Blue for the bridesmaids.

The clear-top tent which was used for both cocktail hour and dancing was the heart of the couple’s french garden-inspired celebration. The tent was draped in gray fabric and featured a six foot wide crystal chandelier. A grand lattice structure was welded on the front of the tent and expertly adorned with confederate jasmine to add to the garden ambiance. The seating assignment display was arranged on linen-backed frames with custom vellum pockets for each escort card. A free-standing bar and vintage furniture lounge created an inviting atmosphere inside the tent.

The dining room inside Happy Hollow Country Club featured light blue velvet linens mixed with patterned blue linen. Gray taper candles and lush blush and ivory centerpieces elevated the tablescape design. After dinner was served, guests moved backed to the tent for dancing, ice cream, and a sparkler farewell.

Interview with the Bride…

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

I always dreamed of a classic, timeless summer wedding. My fiancé and I love being outside so I knew that I would want some part of the wedding outdoors.

What was your color palette and your style vision?

We decided on a French garden theme with lots of creams, whites, and greens. I was indecisive on light blue or blush for the bridesmaid dresses and finally decided after seeing the color swatches. The light blue worked seamlessly with our French Garden dream wedding.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

Our dogs are a huge part of our life and we wanted to have them included in someway. We decided to have cookies shaped like our dogs in the welcome bags. The perfect, sweet way to include them! Another unique element was incorporating our wedding crest inside my wedding gown. We also offered ice cream to cool guests off from the hot July night – complete with a custom flavor Joe and I created (vanilla ice cream with oreos, graham crackers, chocolate chunks, and brownies).

What was your favorite moment? Your favorite crafted detail?

My favorite crafted detail was everything to do with our tent! Dancing took place outside in a clear tent so we could dance under the stars. The inside of the tent was draped in fabric complete with a large chandelier. It was absolutely breathtaking! I also loved the outside of the tent: lush flowers in large plinth and urns and lattice draped in greenery. The entire day was a dream and it’s extremely hard to pick favorite moments because I would say every little thing, but if I had to pick it would be walking down the aisle and seeing Joe at the altar, taking our vows, and dancing the night away in the beautiful tent.

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

Flowers: Flowers arrangements were full and lush with a base of neutral tones and accents of blush. Flowers included: roses, hydrangeas, scabiosa, jasmine vine, camellia foliage, and more.

Gown: I went into dress shopping with an open mind and tried on all silhouettes, designers, and styles. I fell absolutely in love with an a-line, strapless gown made of 100% silk gazar. The skirt is tufted with unique structure and a 5 foot long train. I felt amazing wearing this elegant gown.

Favors: Guests received a gift bag filled with goodies when they checked into their room at our hotel block. We wanted to give a thankful gesture to those who traveled to be a part of our day without breaking the bank. The gift bags included popcorn, nuts, water bottles, and custom cookies shaped like our dogs, along with wedding details and a thank you note.

Cake: We had a five-tier vanilla cream cake with European buttercream frosting and filling. The cake was simple but beautiful with knife-textured frosting topped with fresh flowers and greenery.

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

Enjoy every second of the wedding planning process and wedding day. I highly suggest hiring a wedding planner so you, your significant other, and family can truly enjoy every moment of the special day.

Modern & Romantic Wedding at Nebraska’s The Diamond Room

Nebraska is showing up STRONG today. Lindsay and Alex tied the knot in one of the prettiest celebrations we’ve seen in a long time – with an attention to detail like no other. From the gorgeous welcome box favors filled with local favorites to the time spent alone in the reception space prior to the guests joining so that they could really feel the hard work pored into their wedding day, Lovestruck Events made sure every last moments was cared for and tended to. And the result, with images by Jessica Blex and  STUNNING film by Buena Victoria, was a wedding that could easily be your favorite SMP wedding ever.

From LovestruckLindsay and Alex’s wedding design was a true reflection of their unique personalities. The foundation of the design represented Lindsay’s desire for a garden-inspired celebration with a muted color palette and romantic florals.

In order to capture Alex’s personality, we added modern elements and introduced deeper tones into the color palette to give the design a masculine edge. Alex played a huge role in directing the overall vision and guest experience of the wedding day. As someone who loves to entertain, he wanted to create a unique and innovative atmosphere for their guests with surprises planned throughout the evening.

The invitation we designed set the tone for the celebration. Cheryl Dyer created an abstract floral pattern that was printed on a vellum envelope enclosing the wedding stationery suite. The modern floral design helped balance the invitation’s soft cotton letterpress paper, handwritten script, and elegant wax seal. Lyrics from their first dance song (I Would Do Anything For You by Foster the People) were foil stamped onto the envelope for a playful touch.

Lindsay and Alex were married on a Saturday evening in October in a clear top tent adjacent to the reception venue. The ceremony featured a custom gray-washed chuppah with a geometric design that was covered in lush floral blooms and greenery. Their ceremony was witnessed by just over 225 guests. A confetti canon was released when the couple shared their first kiss as husband and wife.

During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed French 75 cocktails, Lindsay’s signature drink, and a variety of passed and stationed appetizers. The dinner space was draped in white to soften the venue’s industrial finishes. We kept the guest table designs simple and functional, so guests could easily share the family-style bread and salad course before their plated entree.

[iframe https://player.vimeo.com/video/260528479 600 338]

Wedding guests were directed back into the clear tent for dancing. A whiskey tasting bar, coffee cart, and 12 foot wooden bar were placed under the tent. Guests enjoyed wedding cake as well as beignets to satisfy their sweet tooth. Pizza was served from a food truck as a late-night snack. A live band from Atlanta kept the guests dancing throughout the evening.

A Q and A with the Bride and Groom

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

Alex: To me, it was all about an experience. I wanted this to be a magical night not just for the bride and groom, but for everyone in attendance.

Lindsay: Whenever I imagined my wedding ceremony, it was always outdoors and was always in the fall.

What was your color palette and your style vision?

Alex: The vision for the wedding style was simple and unique. I didn’t just want a cliché pinterest wedding. I wanted something that would be unlike any wedding I had ever attended.

Lindsay: Everything I was drawn to evoked a chic, romantic feeling; soft palettes and muted hues. We chose a palette of blushes, peaches, grays, ivory with aged mixed metals and muted woods. I wanted my wedding to feel intimate and really beautiful.

What unique elements or DIY details did you include?

Alex: Putting the lyric of our first dance song on the back of our invitation was subtle, but very cool detail.

Lindsay: I agree with Alex, I loved that… Such a small detail with meaningful lyrics to us!

What was your favorite moment? Your favorite crafted detail?

Alex: My favorite moment was walking into the dancing tent and no one else was there, but my bride and me. It was stunning seeing the lights above us and the band playing and then just being the two of us for one moment before the party joined in. My favorite detail was having a hand-selected craft cocktail bar with a focus on bourbon. The chuppah and the tent were my favorite design details. And no one will ever forget the band…

Lindsay: My favorite moment was hands down the band, it was the moment everyone just let loose and had fun! My favorite detail would have to be the chuppah! It was simply stunning, they just nailed it!

Lindsay, tell us all about your gorgeous dress!

I felt most comfortable and most like myself in a more fitted lace dress. It had a row of pearl buttons up the back. My dress was a combination of two laces; to create the illusion of a pattern, which included an extra long train. Given the longer train I added to my ceremony dress, I wanted something I would feel comfortable in for the party. I knew I wanted a figure-hugging shape, but with enough movement for me to dance! For the ceremony I wanted a more traditional dress, but for the reception I felt comfortable with something less conservative, beadwork and embellishments in a subtle way that felt organic and dainty. My veil was simple, I just knew I wanted it longer than my train! My favorite accessory was a jeweled Jennifer Behr hair piece, I wore it for both the ceremony and the reception!

Can you share a little bit more about all of those important details…your flowers, the food, your favors, your cake?

Alex: The food was important. We chose menu items that could be executed well for our guest count. Rather than to-temperature steak, we chose cabernet braised beef short ribs. It was delicious.

Lindsay: Floral arrangements were organic – peonies, dahlias, ranunculus, anemones, eucalyptus, and garden roses.

For favors we put together a welcome box. Our approach was to include things that we would appreciate as guests at a wedding. We had a wooden box, which we filled with:

-A welcome program (which included a schedule of wedding events as well as a list of local restaurants and activities)
-Our favorite snacks: pistachios, strawberry macaroons and shortbread cookies, and sea salt caramels.
-Voss water

For our cake we ordered a vanilla wedding cake, semi naked, with flowers all over it. We also had it hanging from the ceiling, which made it fun and different!

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

Alex: To grooms, it’s your day too. Everyone else tells you otherwise. Don’t listen. I think it’s an important start to marriage to realize it is both of your time. I loved every bit of it because I was involved. If I wasn’t involved it would not have been as special.

Lindsay: Do not get obsessed with details. Despite all your prepping and planning, some things do not turn out exactly how you imagined them, but nobody knows the difference! Remember, this is your and your future spouse’s day – and that should be your focus and priority. It is so easy to get caught up in the business of wedding planning that you can quickly forget what the day is truly about. After the wedding is all over, your real journey begins!

This Alfresco Celebration Has THE BEST Late Night Treat

This alfresco celebration may fool into thinking it has European roots but it’s smack dab in the middle of Omaha. Celebrating under the cafe lights of the Magnolia Hotel courtyard, this affair is draped in blushing hues and marble inspired details designed by Lovestruck Events. And the fun doesn’t end there. To finish off the festivities, guests were treated to his and her favorite flavors of ice cream all bundled up in a late night sundae. See that sweet ending and more captured by Jessica Blex.

From the Bride…  Prior to planning we envisioned our wedding day being intimate with our closest friends and family. We wanted to be able to have a chance to talk with all of the guests we invited. We also wanted it to be very romantic and warm, and after seeing the Magnolia courtyard we knew it would be a perfect fit!

The wedding favors were dark and white chocolate truffles made by my mom, doubling as place cards. The truffles were packaged in mini kraft boxes and adorned with a silk ribbon and wax seal (mimicking design elements of our invitation suite). Sean and I both love ice cream so we had a local ice cream store make our favorite flavors to create ice cream sundaes for our guests. Each ice cream sundae had a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, german chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup, homemade whipped cream, caramel waffle bites and a cherry on top.

My favorite moment was having dinner in the courtyard under the lights. The flowers and lighting made the courtyard feel very romantic and intimate which is exactly what we wanted!

From Lovestruck…Liz and Sean’s wedding design was influenced by the natural stone and European-inspired architecture incorporated throughout the courtyard dining space at The Magnolia Hotel. A color palette of soft taupes, warm ivories, various shades of mauve, and accents of gold and rose gold was paired with a variety of textures with Old World references and romantic qualities: stone, handmade paper, velvet, organic-styled florals, and intimate lighting.

We helped Liz select bridesmaid gowns in both dusty blush and cinnamon rose. The female attendants wore various dress styles which added visual interest to the wedding party photos and ceremony lineup. The groomsmen (which included Sean’s FIVE brothers) wore blue suits for a fresh take on traditional menswear.

The stationery, featuring warm grey text pressed into thick hand-torn paper, provided a sense of tactile elegance while the simplistic layout and typography added modernity to the traditional printing techniques.

A blush and gold marble pattern, another nod to the European design inspiration, was incorporated into both the invitation envelope liner and the tiered wedding cake. We designed the dining space to feel intimate and welcoming. Long dining tables promoted lively conversation while string lights adorned with green vines created a canopy of light and life above the wedding guests.

The tables were draped with ivory linens with a brocade velvet pattern. The table flowers brought the rich color palette to the neutral dining area. The centerpieces were arranged in an organic/earthy style. Lush blooms were artfully arranged in weathered ceramic pots. Vineyard chairs added to the organic quality of the dining tables. The place settings featured taupe lace chargers, rose gold flatware, and deckled menus. Truffles, made by the mother of the bride, were packaged as favors and place cards for the guests. After dinner, guests were treated to wedding cake made with spiced autumn squash as well as ice cream sundaes featuring a scoop of His and Hers flavors.

Gorgeous Flowers Are Everywhere (Seriously!) at This Wedding

Our motto at SMP: You can never have too many flowers. So this Lauritzen Garden wedding is making us swoon. Florals abound from the real pressed flowers attached to the ceremony programs to the wall of champagne-flavored lollipops containing edible blooms! Ashley Crawford photographed the botanical affair, perfectly planned by Lovestruck Events.

From Lovestruck Events… Kaitlin and Matt were married in mid-June. The couple chose Lauritzen Gardens to host their reception, so we used the venue’s lush botanical setting as the main inspiration for their wedding. Once Kaitlin shared a photo of her sleek wedding gown with us, we knew we needed to add a modern and sophisticated twist to their garden-inspired wedding. We used a pressed flower motif to add a bold graphic element to the stationery suite. Real pressed flowers were attached to the ceremony programs, and champagne-flavored lollipops with edible flowers adorned their modern escort display. In lieu of cake, guests enjoyed various flavored cheesecakes while dancing under the glowing lights strung across the Floral Display Hall.

From the bride, Kaitlin… We wanted to create an evening that felt elegant, yet comfortable, modern yet warm. We had our sights set on Lauritzen Gardens for its visual interest, and the space allowed for our guests to wander and mingle. We loved the idea to juxtapose modern, sleek elements with the organic backdrop of the gardens. The warm, mixed florals popped against a color palette of white, black, navy, and gold. The wall of floral lollipops as seating cards had such a visual impact, and our guests raved about the originality! We had so much fun dancing with our family and friends. The skylights, planters, and string lights made the dance floor feel like an outdoor setting.

One piece of advice that I would give a bride-to-be is to save yourself a lot of stress by not getting caught up with the latest trends and “expectations” of what a wedding should look like. Comparison is the thief of joy, as they say! I had complete faith in Lovestruck to create a day that was beautiful and updated, but more than anything, felt like us.

Former Miss Nebraska Shares Her Hometown Wedding

As former Miss Nebraska USA and self-declared fashion lover, it’s pretty safe to say this Bride knows a thing or two about style. She chose an impossibly chic Vera Wang gown for her hometown wedding and it set the stage for an elegant celebration photographed by Megan Pomeroy. Look back at their Chicago engagement sesh, and head this way for the full wedding gallery.

From The Bride…As a follow up to our engagement session featured on Style Me Pretty, it makes me so excited and happy to share our wedding day! When preparing for our wedding, we knew we wanted the day to be elegant, timeless and bespoke. Jackie & JFK’s outdoor wedding reception was a huge inspiration for our day; we admired the simplicity and how timeless their photos looked.

We recently moved back to Nebraska from Chicago, and wanted to take our wedding day back to our small-town roots. We decided to have our wedding in a neighboring town where I grew up – Farwell, a town with a whopping population of 70 people! We both loved the idea of a countryside wedding and the fact that we could have the entire day in one place – the ceremony to the right of the bed and breakfast and white tents to the left for the reception. The B&B had a large wrap around porch, so we utilized that for cocktail hour, extra seating and the bar. The location was very charming and a destination we plan to visit over the years.

When it came to the look of the day, I’m a true lover of all things neutral. We used white, ivory, gold, flowers and greenery to set the stage for the day. There were aspects throughout the day that captured the essence of our relationship and upbringing. The meal at the reception was home cooked by the B&B, our cake was made by a family friend and we only served wine and beer, complementing what we enjoy drinking.

A dear friend, a former Miss Alabama USA whom I met at Miss USA, has a beautiful calligraphy business so I enlisted her help for our paper goods. She drew an illustration of the B&B that we used on our wedding invitations and programs. If I had to pick, our letterpress invitations were my favorite wedding detail! I now have the invitation framed and on display in our bedroom.

As a former Miss Nebraska USA and lover of fashion, choosing a gown was at the top of my list. I had always dreamed of wearing Vera Wang, and when I tried on the Lillian style, I instantly knew it was perfect for our outdoor wedding. I loved the simplicity and how it was made with a soft French lace. And to top it off, my veil and reception headpiece were custom designed by a dear friend and local designer. Walking down the isle to my now husband, on my mom’s arm and wearing my gown was a highlight of the day!

The reception was a blast. We had a dance tent and a dinner tent. During dinner, our videographer played our love story interviews and same day edit of our wedding day. I cried and laughed and was completely blown away. My groom even surprised me during the video and played our favorite Lord Huron song (a song we listened to on repeat during our engagement trip)! Watching our wedding day video together for the first time with all of our guests was so special. After that, we danced the night away and couldn’t stop smiling!

The Monday after the wedding we jetted off to the French Riviera, Cinque Terre and Lake Como for our honeymoon. It’s safe to say August 2015 was hands down my favorite month of all time.

We were so fortunate to work with amazing vendors. Not only did they bring together our vision for the day, but also they traveled hours to get to our remote location to make it happen. When I think about our wedding day, I think of laughing and smiling every second. I’m so glad our videographer and photographer captured these special moments that we’ll treasure forever.

Surprise Proposal in Nebraska at Slattery Vintage Estates

This is just so precious. I love proposals with all my being (and it just so happens to be National Proposal Day), but when they are a complete surprise perfectly executed by a sweet-as-can-be groom, I’m a total goner. It all makes me melt into a big ol’ pile of mush, and thanks to Lexie Rae Photo‘s pretty images you can gush alongside me here.

I received a phone call from a girl named Lexie a few months ago asking if Christian (my fiancé) and I would be interested in modeling for an upcoming promotional photo shoot for a vineyard. After feeling hesitant to sign up right away for the gig, I called Christian to make sure he was okay with the idea as well as my mom since she would be coming to town that weekend and I didn’t want to delay our plans for “dinner with Christian’s family”. My mom and Christian were completely subtle and gave away no hint at their plans when I talked to them. Needless to say, I had no clue what was about to happen at this “promotional (proposal) photo shoot”.

We began taking pictures on a beautiful sunny evening in Nebraska and I did not sense an ounce of nerves coming from Christian, so at this point I was still completely clueless. Lexie asked Christian to go grab the wine “props” for the next series of photos and informed him she wanted some pictures of me by myself. When he came back, we were taking pictures with a beautiful bottle of wine. Still without any idea of what was about to happen, Christian starts telling me that this bottle of wine is special and goes on and on about how beautiful the night is when I look at him and say “Babe. We’re supposed to be taking pictures for these people”. He is now telling me how he cannot wait to spend the rest of his life with me and asks me to turn the bottle of wine around. Engraved in the bottle said “Ashley Nicole, will you marry me? -Christian”. I later realized why he had asked me earlier in the day “do my socks look okay?”. He got down on one knee and asked the question every girl dreams of hearing.

I went into a state of shock and can barely remember my voice saying yes, but my heart was screaming “YES WITH EVERY OUNCE OF ME. YES!” When I finally formed those three little letters into a word, I realized the feeling was more than I ever expected it to be. To top it off, we have this perfect, beautiful moment all on camera thanks to sweet Lexie.

After this life changing, special moment, I wiped my oh so happy tears and walked around to the gazebo where our family stood clapping and crying. They had all known for so long and clearly did not let the secret out; thank you all, I know that was hard to do and I also know why you avoided me for a month. Christians mom whispered in my ear “I couldn’t have picked anyone better myself” and at that point..cue the waterworks again. Of course we ended our evening drinking wine and bubbly, listening to stories of how Christian pulled off the event, dancing to the live band, and soaking up the best moments with even better company. Everything is better with Christian. Sunny days are brighter, rainy days are cozier, and even food tastes better with him. I never thought it was possible to still chase butterflies out of my stomach after date night or to tear up when I talk about him, but he has proven me wrong and I cannot wait for a lifetime of “the little things” with him. I knew on our first date three years ago that Christian was my future; this picture perfect, life changing event made him my everything, forever and always.
