Winter Wonderland Engagement Session

This stunning engagement session? Well, it’s got me willing to brave freezing temps for a similar outcome. Surrounded by snowflakes, these scarf wearing sweethearts share cocoa and kisses, the result? Pure winter perfection. Jeremiah And Rachel Photography were behind the lens and snapped up every winter wonderland worthy moment here.

From Jeremiah And Rachel Photography… Aly and Nick are two beautiful souls, engaged, and embracing the snow Montana brings our way. We planned for their engagement session to set the tone for their upcoming Winter Wedding, and I think we got just that! It was practically a blizzard the entire time, but we didn’t mind as long as we got to warm up periodically! The snow was enchanting and we felt like we were in a giant snow globe as Aly and Nick snuggled a little closer together to stay warm. Both of them with their dark hair and porcelain skin looked like a fairy tale. I was half expecting Mr. Tumnus from Narnia to walk around the corner with his umbrella and parcels.

Colorful Wild West Wedding Inspiration

Between this turquoise necklace and the stunning mare, I’m dreaming of my own wild west adventure. And that’s not even taking into account the gorgeous florals by Beargrass Gardens Florals & Events that have me completely reconsidering oranges and reds going forward. Rebecca Hollis captured this western wedding shoot and these stunning pics are my treat to you as we enter into the weekend ahead.

From Beargrass Gardens Floral & Events… The general idea for this shoot was to embrace the true and historic heritage of the entire Western and Southwestern US, yet combine the look and feel of a stylish, chic Bride. I kept saying to Rebecca as we were developing the idea, “Ralph Lauren Bride.”

This photo shoot took place on an actual working ranch in the Bitterroot Valley, Montana. We also wanted a model with short hair…something different and inspiring for all the young future Brides. Short hair can be very beautiful and ethereal, even romantic. I believe these images prove just that.

With each styled shoot Rebecca and I collaborate on we always hope to inspire future Brides and all the other creatives in our industry. Always looking to have fun with an idea and for something different, yet relative.

Winter Wonderland Holiday Dinner

Celebrating amongst snow capped trees, this beautiful trek in the woods captured by Jeremiah And Rachel Photography is a walk in a winter wonderland. Complete with holiday cookies, cocoa, and plenty of cheerful Mum’s FlowersGoldfinch Events & Design perfectly planned a cheerful celebration. Join us by donning your warmest of wears and come along for the ride here!

From Goldfinch Events & Design… Temperatures are dropping, snowflakes are beginning to fall, and the holidays are upon us. With that often comes the usual excitement and stress of decorating for large family gatherings, giving just the right present, and in all the chaos still remembering to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. May these few tips help inspire you towards a simple, stress-free holiday season.

When decorating your table, fresh cut bows such as cedar, douglas fir, and white pine provide fragrance and texture while an abundance of white pillar candles add warmth and coziness. Keep your centerpiece low to promote conversation and your color palate simple, in classic whites and greens with a hint of gold sparkle or pop of red to avoid looking over-decorated and tacky. Cedar trimmings make great napkin accents and snowflake sugar cookies add a touch of edible décor to everyone’s plate.

In all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, make time for those you love by: having an annual snowball war in the yard, a monopoly marathon, go caroling through your neighborhood, ice skate on a local pond, volunteer at a soup kitchen, or embark on a snowshoeing expedition. Instead of the stereotypical turkey dinner, make new traditions like hosting a tree-cutting party for family and friends with hot chocolate, home made treats, and a tree hunt. These timeless customs will be carried down by generations to come, building life-long memories with those you love.

During this shoot we had the pleasure of working with a family and styling their family Christmas photos as they sipped hot cocoa together and searched for a tree.

Bohemian Montana Lodge Wedding

I love a pastel wedding as much as the next girl, but what really sets my heart a’flutter? A bride who’s not afraid to play with color. Just take this bohemian beauty who mixed shades of red, gold, gray and green for a design that blends seamlessly with the landscapes of Montana. Leslie Lukas crafted every bloom, from flower crown to centerpiece, and Rebecca Hollis captured perfectly behind the camera.

From The Bride…My husband Steve and I live a very Brooklyn existence, but we had no doubt in our minds that we wanted to get married in a place defined by its natural beauty. We looked pretty much everywhere (on the internet, of course), but had a lot of trouble finding somewhere that matched our criteria. We had a few major stipulations:

1. Gorgeous natural setting.
2. Amazing food.
3. Allow us to party until at least 1am.

We were lucky to find everything we were looking for in Rainbow Ranch Lodge, a rustic luxury (quite the oxymoron, but it does exist) hotel/restaurant/wedding venue smack dab in the middle of the Bob Ross painting that is Montana. We ended up visiting in January to confirm it was the venue we wanted and were floored by the quality of the food (hyper local and fresh, impeccable flavor), the picturesque surroundings, and the attention to detail of the rooms. This was it!

The planning process was definitely challenging as everything happened via email and phone, but our vendors all made the process as streamlined as long distance wedding planning can get. When we got to Montana, we only stressed for about a day but shortly found the peace bestowed upon us by our surroundings. We also did a ton of DIY-ing at home in Brooklyn. I put my graphic design background to use and designed our whimsical/rustic/luxe invitations, silkscreened our menus and welcome tote bags, hand painted our program, and designed a field guide. We spray painted toy animals gold for escort cards, and I made 80+ travel candles in my studio to serve as wedding favors. Whew!

The day of the wedding, as they always say, went by insanely fast, but it was absolutely the best day of our lives. We started hair and makeup 9am, and spent the morning chatting and admiring the beautiful scenery. Later that day, I saw the flowers for the very first time and was ecstatic about how they turned out. They were colorful in a warm and classic way — the balance of the neutrals to the colors were spot on and I loved how effortless the arrangement looked. The weather was beyond perfect, and the ceremony our officiant composed, centered around love and mindfulness was completely reflective of our bond and brought us all to tears. Cocktail hour featured delicious appetizers from bacon-wrapped figs, asian beef skewers, and eggrolls, and our signature cocktail, a Huckleberry Mojito. We chose to skip most of the traditions, opting to extend dance floor time instead. Music was mostly 90s hip hop, and tons of singalong inducing hits. The desserts, all created by the chefs of Rainbow Ranch, which ranged from eclairs to fruit tarts, to the most amazing naked (frosting-less) cake, were some of the best we’d ever tasted.

All in all, we would change absolutely nothing about that day. Just to have all our favorite people in one place was enough, but being surrounded by mountains and rivers and trees, eating insanely good food, listening to all our favorite music, was just a dream come true. We’d do it all over again if we could!

Rustic Summer Wedding at Ranch at Rock Creek

After obsessing over every single photo from this Montana wedding, I’m adding The Ranch at Rock Creek to the top of my wanderlust list right away. From the tent poles covered with birch tree bark to stunning florals by Habitat Floral Studio, this summer celebration has me weak at the knees. Captured by Sue Kessler of Christian Oth Studio, and Ryan Hinman Films, I won’t be leaving this gallery anytime soon.

From The Bride… The Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana is a very special place to my family where we have been vacationing for years. My husband Sam immediately fell in love with the Ranch too and it has always felt like a magical home away from home to us. When Sam and I got engaged, there was no other place where we could picture getting married. The Ranch is a perfect mix of being rustic and elegant, and that is exactly the feel that we wanted for our wedding.

Planning a western wedding from New York City was a daunting task at first, but ended up being such a fun and easy process thanks to Jennifer Horsely and Jenny Hurst from Habitat Events and the whole staff at The Ranch at Rock Creek! With the green Montana landscape as a backdrop, I envisioned a reception tent with neutral tones that would complement the scenery and a few simple rustic touches that would tie in birch trees, one of my favorite western trademarks that dot the Ranch. For this, Montana Party Rentals wrapped the tent poles in real birch bark and branches which added a rustic feel to the elegant tables.

We wanted to spend as much time with our friends and family as possible who flew so far to be with us, so we planned a whole weekend that kicked off with a ‘hoedown’ on Friday night with live bluegrass from the Lil Smokies, followed by the wedding and reception on Saturday, and ending with a western rodeo and brunch on Sunday. It was a time that Sam and I will never forget and the best way to start a new chapter of our lives together!

Montana Estate Wedding Film

This wedding made me weep. I’m not afraid to admit it, wedding films have a way of doing that to me. But this one, it got me. From the moment Moonstone Pictures opened on this gorgeous couple getting ready for their best day ever to the sweet speech from the Father of the Bride…really just all of it – it’s beautiful in every sense of the word, and Moonstone Pictures captured it perfectly.

From Moonstone PicturesFollowing a torrential downpour the day before and the entire morning of the wedding, the skies miraculously opened up just before the start of the ceremony for the most glorious day EVER! Big skies of bright blue with puffy clouds and the scenic mountain backdrop just left the guests breathless. Amazing personal and stylish touches were everywhere, including handmade bells for ringing after the first kiss, a custom barn-wood door and frame for the dramatic bride’s reveal, the beautiful handcrafted arch, vintage benches and furniture, the barrel guest book, tree planting and picture frame photos for the guests. It was a perfect match of elegance meets Montana chic for Kelsey and Austin, who met at DePaul University (he from Chicago and she from New York.) Their wedding took place at her parent’s vacation home and their love for the region has lured them to now call Montana their home.

From The Bride…This was truly the “Best Day Ever” for me and Austin. It was the day I married my best friend and soul mate. We felt so much love surrounding us on our special day from our friends and family, as well as all of the wonderful vendors who made our day so incredibly memorable. What better place to have a wedding than in the backyard of our family’s home in beautiful Montana. We watched our dream vision come together on our big day with all of the little details, some handmade and some rented, as we walked down the aisle to the beautiful sounds of the piano and cello. After the ceremony it was one big celebration! We can’t thank the entire team enough for making this day one we will always remember – the word “perfect” comes to mind. We feel very blessed and are excited about our future together as husband and wife!

Rainy Montana Ranch Wedding

I love the fact that a little rain couldn’t dampen this joyous occasion. Braving the chance of showers, this couple created a day decked out with Montana Party Rentals infused with Avant Floral blooms. Guests gathered at 320 Guest Ranch to celebrate and Orange Photographie captured a gallery proving that all the rain in the world won’t dampen true love.

From The Bride…When Daniel and I met, we fell in love over skiing, climbing and the outdoors. We wanted our wedding to be an expression of that bond, a piece of us that we could share with our family and friends. We chose to get married at the 320 Guest Ranch near Big Sky, MT for its rustic atmosphere and beautiful riverside location for the ceremony and reception. We were introduced to the 320 Ranch a few Christmases ago, when Daniel surprised me with a sleigh ride, and night in the homesteaders cabin on the property. This personal memory, along with my brother living in Big Sky, and the PBR rodeo during week prior, it just seemed like the perfect choice.

Our style for the day was a shappy chic and rustic, with many handmade aspects infused with love. Our gift to our guests was a mason jar mug; great for at the event, and something special to have at home. Around the neck of the jar we tied a string that held a medallion. On the medallions were one of 4 of our favorite quotes that a jeweler on Etsy custom engraved for us.

The week prior to the wedding all the wonderful women in my life, from aunts to neighbors to family friends helped to finish other details. We made hand stamped name cards to hang from a clothesline style seating chart. We glued flowers to clothespins for our table settings. We ironed burlap and decorated candle holders. Many hours were spent giggling, catching up, and telling stories over wedding day projects.

The day of the wedding was truly special, because as Daniel and I were away fishing with the bride and grooms parties, all of these fantastic women went and set up for the day. They decorated the archway with fabric, aspen boughs from my parents home in Colorado, and flowers. They set the tables and helped all our little details infused with love to become a reality. They had transformed our vision into our dream day. It was so special to look around and know that a community created the beauty around us. It was all full of so much love.

My favorite moment was setting off for the carriage ride to the ceremony. We had completed our first looks, which was amazing, and so the entire wedding party, including my parents, were together. It had been threatening to rain all day, and so the coordinators were watching the weather radar for a clear moment. They thought we had a window, and so they loaded us quickly into the carriage. The driver of the carriage gave us a warning that “We need to go, so hold on”, and the horses lurched to a canter. They were running down the road, the wind catching my veil and all of us laughing. Arriving at the location, they tucked us under the eave of a cabin to wait out the rain. The men gave their coats to the bridesmaids and my niece, and we stood there together, laughing, anticipating and enjoying this funny turn of events. We even shared a couple of beers. The blustery weather continued throughout the ceremony, but I believed it suited our relationship and ceremony perfectly. We were all laughing, and as the officiant spoke of wind and rain to serve as medicine for our marriage, the wind blew and some raindrops fell. It was perfect.

Rustic Wedding at Holland Lake Lodge

Abundant wildflowers and majestic mountain views that take your breath away; that’s my kind of wilderness. From The Bride… It was an amazing weekend filled with campfires, late night swimming and so much love.

Joe and I are both from Montana but now live in London and we have friends from all over the place. For us the most important thing was to create a space where everyone from the different parts of our lives could come together and have a good time. The end result was an amazing wedding weekend with a stunning backdrop, filled with love and fun.

From Mum’s FlowersWe were so excited when Willow Bride approached us about doing floral and helping style a shoot with Goldfinch Events & Design featuring one of our very favorite bridal designers, Miss Hayley Paige. Hayley Paige’s new Fall 2014 Collection has so much glamour and sass with its jewel-yoked necklines, full layered skirts, and bedazzled bodices we thought it best paired with simple florals. The main theme for the shoot became a nearby equestrian center that we had the opportunity to work out of, Larkspur Farm.

With it’s richly stained woodworking interiors to its golf course worthy grass fields paired against a freshly cut hay field in the back of the property and a nearby woodland path, this quickly became a very diverse setting. Not to mention, our love for horses and their majestic presence balanced so perfectly with Hayley Paige’s incredible gowns. We threw a denim jacket on our stunning model as a nod to our country roots which quickly became one our favorite looks.

Rustic Montana Ranch Wedding

Under the blue skies of Montana lays Sky Ridge Ranch; an absolutely breathtaking setting for saying “I do.” Doing so in Oscar De La Renta? Now that makes for one happy bride. Habitat Events pulled together a beautful celebration, with rustic details at every turn. This is one pin-worthy gallery you can’t miss, so check out all the images by Kristine Paulsen Photography!

From Kristine Paulsen PhotographyIt truly was an absolutely beautiful day for these Kristeen and Colt to be married. The skies were blue, the lemonade was refreshing, and the love was tangible. As Kristeen walked down the aisle with her father, Colt visibly became choked up as he saw his radiant bride smiling at him. There was so much emotion in their sweet ceremony – their vows were truly from the heart, and I don’t think there was a dry eye in attendance as we all listened to their declarations to each other.

They both made it through their ceremony, faces a bit tear-stained, but only from happiness. Soon everyone was cheering as Kristeen and Colt joined their reception, and began to mingle, enjoy the delectable appetizers and cocktails, and delight in the company of their guests who had traveled from many different locations to share in the celebration of their marriage. Kristeen originally hails from Alabama (hence the Alabama chocolate favors for their guests), Colt is originally from Arlee, Montana, which is just a hop and a skip away from Ronan, and the two currently reside in Hawaii, where Kristeen works as a nurse and Colt is in the Navy.

Soon everyone moved inside the barn to sit down to a delicious meal, beautiful ambiance, a fun slideshow, and finally, a most epic dessert table.

As the band began to play and as sugar got folks into high gear, people began to kick up their heels in the barn, laughing, and having a great time. Dusk soon fell and Montana wowed everyone with a color-streaked sky. It was only fitting to witness such a natural display of beauty by starting up a bonfire and roasting s’mores as night fell.

Everyone continued to get their groove on, and as the evening wound down, friends and family lit sparklers to send Kristeen and Colt off into the Montana night.

Winter Wedding Inspiration at Green Valley Ranch

Sure, Montana winters can be tough, but this snowy photo shoot is proof they can also be breathtakingly beautiful. Brought to us by Rebecca Hollis Photography and Beargrass Gardens Floral & Events it channels the romance of the French countryside all while embracing the cool quiet of a Montana winter. With a dreamy lace gown, gorgeous florals, and an intimate fireside celebration it will leaving you longing for cooler weather and candlelight… and you can see  it all right here in the gallery.

From Beargrass Gardens Floral & EventsGreen Valley Ranch sits on 480 acres just outside Glacier National Park, Montana. A historic family homestead rich in tradition, with warmth and grandeur. Therefore, much of the inspiration in designing this shoot was the location and venue. As a wedding designer and planner, Green Valley Ranch is always a “go-to” when showing engaged Brides an intimate option for a wedding. Small and intimate weddings are often my most memorable and where I see the Bride and Groom most relaxed and able to enjoy their day. I hope to inspire future Bride’s to think about the idea of a setting such as this and even during the dead of winter in a blizzard.

The Main Lodge of Green Valley Ranch has such a formal, yet rustic feel that I found myself wanting to use some color to create a look that would radiate romance. A single porcelain red and cream toile compote was my first find that led me down the road to want to design a French Country wedding in rich reds and French blues. For the table settings, French blue toile napkins tied with Frou Frou Chic ribbon and simple menu cards were placed. Brass candlesticks with cream tapers lined the table between three compotes filled with sahara roses, white clematis, piers japonica, white sweet peas, red garden spray roses, red ranunculus, white lilacs, tweedia, scented geranium, blush astilbe, privet berry, white scabiosa, narcissus and white anemones longing to escape down the table. A blue and white ticking runner with a cream lace overlay ran down the center of the large wood farmhouse table. Berries and fresh herbs were used as accents for the dining experience.

In the Main Living Room we created the perfect and intimate ceremony location directly in front of the grand stone fireplace. Ivy, rosemary topiaries, lemon cypress and lavender plants all wrapped in red and blue toile fabrics, tied with lace ribbons lined the mantle and hearth. Candles of many different shapes and sizes were placed amongst the plants. The setting was absolutely enchanting. A large floral arrangement was designed in a vintage brass pedestal container and placed in the center of the mantle that had white clematis dripping out for a romantic garden feel.

The snow fell all-day and only added to the romance and beauty of this inspirational shoot that Rebecca Hollis Photography captured wonderfully.

From Habitat EventsEveryone who works in the wedding industry has a handful of weddings they will remember forever. Whether it was the sweet connection between the bride and groom, the thought and care behind the unique details or the spirit of family and friends to soak up every lovely moment of the day, there is just something about that wedding you will never forget. For us, this wedding was the embodiment of all these elements and then some.

The bride and groom’s primary focus was to create a memorable and unforgettable experience for each and every one of their friends and family. The weekend started off at the shooting range followed by horseback riding and an authentic Montana BBQ. The wedding day was filled with so many stunning details, from the creation of an outdoor church in the middle of the Montana prairie to al fresco dining under a custom built arbor to the culmination of dancing under the Big Sky stars. The evening ended with an offering of late night snacks complete with truffle fries, bacon butty’s, and mac and cheese. While the entire event was full of awe-inspiring moments, everyone agreed the weekend’s standout moment came just as the ceremony ended when a stampede of horses ran across the prairie to the accompaniment of a choir singing “Wild Horses” by the Rolling Stones. It was truly an honor to be apart of such an extraordinary day!

From Janie Osborne Photography… Alice and Mike are both summer fishing guides and so it is no surprise that they chose to marry on a beautiful lakeside private property in Yellowstone.

Fitting with their fishing theme, Alice decided not to walk down the aisle but instead was rowed across the lake drift-boat style to her ceremony site!

Following the ceremony, guests moved the top of the property where they enjoyed a gorgeous view of the lake while wining and dining under the shelter of a lovely Tidewater (sailcloth) tent.

The fishing theme was integrated into other parts of the couple’s wedding as well: A beautiful “fish” cake was the central attraction on the lavish dessert table. Trout shaped parmesan crackers complimented each place setting. And pictures of steelhead fish were featured on the large hand-drawn seating chart chalkboard as well as the table placards.

Cheers to Alice and Mike. And may they enjoy many happy years together in life, marriage – and fishing!

Rustic Glamour In The Rocky Mountains

I can’t think of a more elegant way for two worlds to collide than a black-tie event in the rocky mountains. I can see it now: hiking the sinewy trails in a beautiful Jenny Packham gown. Perfection! But we expect nothing less when Leslie Lukas Weddings & Events has a hand it in. And thanks to Lauren Brown Photography’s handiwork, there’s a gallery full of drop-dead-gorgeous details for the reveling.

From Leslie Lukas Weddings & EventsBig Sky goes city glamour. Barbra and Dave could not have been any sweeter to work with. Every step of the way validated why we plan and designs weddings. From concept to completion we took them through the process, taking into account they wanted to blend city chic with rustic influences from the rocky mountains–which were evident in the stunning backdrop. A black-tie affair, the blending of city chic with rustic Montana was achieved through elegant fresh florals, a classic car by Gerrard Classic Auto Collection, an incredible wedding gown by Jenny Packam, and tons of details that brought the two styles together. Rustic elegance at its finest. Barbra’s father owns a men’s store in Butte, Montana- Wein’s Men’s Store, where they got their sharp tuxes from.

From the Bride…I dreamed of planning my wedding, since I was four years old. For a year and a half I looked at Style Me Pretty with my morning coffee on my days off & then would call my vendors. When my wedding week arrived, I decided to “Let it go” (advice from my sister) and let the amazing vendors I hired do what they do best.

My husband & I met in the third grade and reconnected in Seattle in our mid twenties. It was very important to us that our wedding reflected our hometown, Butte, MT where we were both born & raised. Butte is an old mining town, rich in historical buildings and Irish Catholic tradition. Our invites & photos showcased a gallus frame, from which copper was mined. Our evening photos feature us in the historic uptown streets surrounded by Butte architecture. Mark, of Cluney Photo, was especially wonderful, he understood my vision and incorporated it to the photos seamlessly. There is not a single thing I would change about the day and my husband agrees.

“If music be the food of love, play on.” Written by none other than Shakespeare, these are the beautiful words that breathed life into this insanely gorgeous inspiration dreamt up by Orange Photographie. From Orange Photographie“If music be the food of love, play on.” Shakespeare wrote these now famous words in his play Twelfth Night, and they have always inspired me. Coming from a musical family, music has been a huge presence in my life since I was tiny (I play the violin and sing). Often called the universal language, music contains such beauty and power to communicate across boundaries, cultures, and languages. Because of my love for it, I wanted to see if I could merge my two loves of music and wedding photography together in an inspirational shoot with the very talented Jennifer Horsley of Habitat Events.

When music is incorporated into wedding design, I feel it’s often taken too literally and can come across as kitschy. As I began to conceptualize this shoot, I started envisioning the couple who would have the kind of wedding I was dreaming up. In my imagination, I brought to life a bride and groom who might both be members of a major symphony in a metropolitan city. The bride is possibly the first-chair violinist in the New York Philharmonic and perhaps the groom is in the brass section. Surrounded by the culture in a city such as New York, their taste is exquisite and refined. Although they love the city, they want to go far away for their wedding, perhaps to a European chateau. The couple wishes to include small touches of their mutual love of music, but nothing blatantly obvious.

I explained this all to Jennifer, who then brought my whole dream to life in such a magnificent, tasteful way. Subtle nods to my imaginary couple’s passion for music were incorporated in the table, where a little horn was discretely placed within lavish greenery and flowers that wove around it, almost hiding it from view. I found a collection of antique piano composition books we used to style with, as well as an heirloom music stand Jennifer styled with an overflowing symphony of flowers. One of my favorite parts of the day was when Jennifer created an absolutely breathtaking living chandelier of greenery and flowers that cascaded down from an arch above and encircled the glowing couple.

From The Bride…Over 1,000 white candles, antique/vintage furniture, mason jars, soft, romantic colors and a hint of outdoor rustic appeal made our wedding the most glamorous event our small town of Havre, MT had ever seen.

The details…Music is a HUGE part of both of our families. It was the theme to most of our special touches. My Mom and Andy’s brother performed a rendition of “The Story” by Brandi Carlile during our ceremony. My grandparents are professional Jazz musicians and provided the live entertainment for the cocktail hour. Each table had an old fashioned cake instead of a table number and had a lyric, quote, or verse that resonated with Andy and I instead of an actual number. Our favors were CDs with a compilation of our favorite love songs, which were played throughout dinner and during a slideshow later in the night. All of our signage was custom made by a friend who is an incredible graphic designer. We had flowers and candles on logs from my family’s farm throughout the entire venue. Because our wedding was in a town without any wedding vendors I had to bring everything in.

I hand dipped our wooden silverware in gold paint for each place setting, used gold glitter on the bottom of the candles on the tables, arranged all of the flowers I had ordered from Mac’s, had mason jars with striped straws and champagne flutes next to vintage plates and gold chargers on each table setting and topped it off with mint napkins. Vintage Whites Market specially made an altar out of old doors, stair railings and curtains for the perfect handmade, antique look. They also provided vintage frames and seating to create an awesome photobooth area, which our guests loved. Cocktail hour had Montana whiskeys and my favorite pink drink we dubbed “Care Bears” after the family friend, Carrie, that concocted them. Chalkboard signs led people through the “rooms” since we had different areas for each part of the evening. Antlers from my family ranch were used on table tops and signs with our social networking hashtag, #andylovesliz, were in every detail. Because we were unable to get a videographer to travel to our location a dear friend provided a basic short video for us. Words cannot summarize how magical and touching our ceremony turned out to be in the soft glow of the candles in our gold painted wine bottles (another DIY) surrounded in all white.

Our Background…I am a wedding planner for the average bride and groom in the great state of Montana. I help ordinary couples have fairy tale weddings using the incredible outdoors as their backdrop. So when it came to my own wedding, clearly I knew each detail in advance. And then the worst thing happened, we LOST OUR VENUE! So some improvisation was needed. We changed the location of our wedding to our home town, to a place we spent most of our teenage years but it was not what I would call the ideal location. I knew the details, and our story, had to be what made the day magical.

Andy and I both grew up in the small town of Havre, Montana. He was my best friend’s next door neighbor and we became instant friends when I was 15, a freshman, and he was 17, a junior. After a year of friendship he was my first real boyfriend, my first real kiss, and my first heartbreak as we broke up when he went to college. We eventually reunited in Missoula at the University of Montana and after staying close friends for a few years began dating again. Timing was never on our side as he took a job in another city while I finished college. It took nine years before we decided it was time to be together. Andy proposed with a ring he had custom designed himself and it was the greatest day of my life. He has been my best friend for 10 years now and we couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate with our family and friends than returning to where it all began. Choosing an indoor venue (because of Montana’s unpredictable spring weather), was not an easy feat. Andy was the captain of his very accomplished hockey team and I spent a lot of time cheering him on so the hockey rink actually did have a sentimental quality to it.

Our wedding day was a small town reunion with almost 300 people from different graduating classes and most farmers and ranchers in a 200 mile radius. Our decor was very romantic with touches of the outdoors we both grew up in and love. Because Andy is known for being a total comedian, our uber soft, romantic setting and self-written vows really shocked our guests. It was a day the entire town had been waiting on for almost ten years. I am certain we did not disappoint. I hand selected my favorite vendors from around the state and the culmination made for the most magical day I could ever have dreamed of.

From Moonstone Pictures… Cristin and Nate are just such an adorable couple. It doesn’t hurt that he’s an NHL Hockey player for Tampa….very easy on the eyes. Cristin focused on so many amazing details for their wedding. Lot’s of special touches that defined them as a couple…family style Italian meal passed down long tables where guests could cozy up to one another. Copper engraved place settings. Each place setting had their own loaf of rustic bread wrapped in parchment. Beautiful imported Italian candies and other treats.

And best of all, their vows were amazing. So emotional and heartfelt. Loved this wedding and it’s casual, yet elegant nature. Especially the finishing touch with the words “Best Day Ever” nailed to the side of the super wonderful historic venue, Springhill Pavillion.

Hockey Players Tie the Knot in Montana

I happen to be one of the many people that think Montana is the greatest place in the world to get married.  So I totally understand why this MN duo (who also happen to be NHL + Division I hockey players!) tied the knot amongst its beauty.  Think rustic awesome meets the floral power of Alison Brooke Design meets gorgeous images from Janie Osborne.  See all of the pretty right here, and stay tuned for tomorrow’s film from Moonstone Pictures.  It’s amazing, too.

From Janie Osborne… The natural beauty, rustic simplicity and magic of Montana inspired Cristin and Nate, who hail from Florida (but call Minnesota home), to get married at the historic Springhill Pavilion outside of Bozeman, Montana. Both Cristin and Nate are Hockey players: Nate currently plays for Tampa Bay Lightning of the NHL and Cristin played Division 1 hockey at Boston College. A number of their wedding guests were hockey enthusiasts as well which made for a very fun-loving celebration. Cristin describes their wedding day as “naturally elegant” and “filled with unique personal details.” And, as the large sign posted on the outside of the Pavilion said, it truly was the “best day ever” for Cristin and Nate.
