Victorian-Inspired Montana Bridal Session

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I’m ready to ask this photo shoot from Rebecca Hollis Photography to be my Valentine. After all, February 14th is all about love and I am oh-so-in-love with every detail of this inspiration session: the lush, bright floral arrangements from City Blossoms, the gorgeous Velvet Bride gown and the beautiful calligraphy from Seniman Calligraphy. See every magic moment in The Vault!

From City BlossomsFrom furniture dating back to 1823, to the teapot we used on the cake table that was given to my great grandparents as a wedding gift in 1912, we couldn’t help but be inspired to do this gorgeous Victorian inspired bridal shoot. Amongst the trees with the sun turning the wheatgrass to a golden shimmer and the rolling hills of the Bitterroot Valley of Montana as our backdrop, we were able to capture the beauty of a bride in her stunning long-sleeved backless gown with spring florals set in the frosty air.

Rustic Elegant Floral Inspiration From The Wild West Flower Workshop

I’ve always adored flowers (who doesn’t) but when I worked with our floral designers for my wedding, that adoration turned to a full blown love affair. So when these images by Rebecca Hollis came across my desk, I stopped and stared… and have barely resumed work since. Captured at The Wild West Flower Workshop, hosted by Darci Greenwood of Beargrass Gardens Florals + Events, floral designers came from all over to learn, grown, and create, and the finished results – all here in our VAULT – are downright frame-worthy. Take your pick among all this pretty!

From Darci Greenwood at Beargrass Gardens Floral & Events… The Wild West Flower Workshop was held September 21st-23rd, 2015 at the majestic Green Valley Ranch at the gates to Glacier National Park. Hosted and instructed by me, Darci Greenwood of Beargrass Gardens Floral & Events, 13 floral designers from all over the United States traveled to Montana for three days of flower camaraderie and fun. Nancy Teasley from Oak and the Owl and Ashley Fox from Ashley Fox Designs were my guest instructors and made this experience even more amazing with their smiles and expertise. The Wild West Flower Workshop is an all-inclusive package, as we all stay together on property at the luxuriously rustic lodge and all meals are prepared in the beautiful main kitchen. I can’t even begin to explain how much support and friendship developed in such a short time between these designers.

Our first day, after breakfast, we sat in the main living area and had amazing discussions on business and marketing. Everyone spoke of their story and the reasons they love the flower and wedding business. Just listening to each other, students were learning. Many questions were asked and we were thrilled to answer and discuss.

That afternoon we strolled down by the horse pastures to the pole barn and designed bridal bouquets. Students had hundreds and hundred of stems to chose from and it was so much fun to watch everyone pick the product for their design. Mayesh Wholesale provided some of the gorgeous blooms and botanicals and we also brought in local Montana grown dahlias and California grown garden roses. Foraging was probably what thrilled students the most. The Montana surrounding forest and fields provided students with hundred of acres of beauty for them to snip from. There were times when I could hear laughter and squeals of delight from deep in the forest.

A beautiful model was brought in to photograph with each of the students finished bouquet. Rebecca Hollis Photography worked with each student to perfectly capture their work. Our lovely model wore a LeeAnn Marshall gown provided by Velvet Bride.

The next day we worked on centerpieces and tabletop styling. Students again chose from beautiful floral product and forged for much of their foliage. Shape, style and design construction was discussed and everyone dove head first into their creations. Students also were given the opportunity to chose from The TOP tabletop items to create the perfect place setting that speaks of each of their style and their work. I had so much fun watching how each of their personalities and personal styles came out in each of their place settings. All of them very beautiful and unique.

That afternoon students traveled into Glacier National Park on a red jammer tour. Many of them had never witnessed the sheer and magnificent beauty. It was a treat. Rebecca Hollis was along for the ride and captured some of the jaw dropping scenery.

That evening was our Farewell Dinner. While the students were enjoying their tour to the Crown of the Continent in Glacier Park. Nancy, Ashley, Arden, Jessica and myself were preparing. We designed the florals and set the tables for the feast. So many laughs and many memories were made. We all dined that evening under the “big sky” of Montana with thousands of stars.

Showing off my beautiful state could not have made me more proud. And sharing such moments with so many special people was a gift, I was honored!!!

Special thank you to my amazing staff, Arden Greenwood and Jessica Gutierrez for all of your dedication, support and love!

The Wild West Flower Workshop & Retreat at Green Valley Ranch Montana has new dates scheduled: May 23rd-25th, 2016 and September 19th-21st, 2016. Email darci@beargrassgardens.com for all the details!

Lone Mountain Ranch Winter Wedding Inspiration

Here in New England, it’s rare that we get our first snow after Christmas. But this year, Old Man Winter decided to make his debut a bit later than usual and is still withholding the fluffy white stuff that makes you want to make a snowman. So, until then, I’ll be living here, in THE VAULT with BrittRene PhotoBuzzworthy Events SF and team, dreaming of Moscow mules and cozy ranch sleigh rides.

Colors

From Buzzworthy Events SFI have been dying to get my hands on a rustic lodge to style! Lone Mountain Ranch presented that opportunity and we could not be more pleased with the results! Some of us jumped in the car while others flew, and spent 48 hours engulfed in the full Lone Mountain Ranch experience. Montana is a very special place. It is clean and wild and feels somewhat untouched. The people are genuine and the atmosphere is fresh and rejuvenating. The activities, parks, and experiences are endless. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Lone Mountain Ranch is a historic ranch that has been around for decades. They recently made some enhancements to the property and it is a hidden gem! We had a blast touring the property and creating a “wedding” for them. We got to get the full feel of the property and soaked in every moment there. Lone Mountain Ranch has a horse ranch right on site. There is a sleigh ride to the top of the mountain where a chef prepares dinner nightly. The rustic barn and gorgeous horses make for an incredible backdrop. A snow covered mountain, the open fields, and streams running through the property make you feel a bit tucked away from the rest of Big Sky. The dining set up was a rich blend of rustic, sophistication, and simplicity to match the property. I really wanted to stay cheery and bright to match the snow and mood of the property. The bar and dinning room is a rustic, inviting, and cozy. The bar has a giant fireplace and copper bar top, where they host live music nightly, and is super cozy. We created moonshine mules with local Montana Moonshine. The bar hosts plenty of delightful cocktails as well. I really had a blast creating a hot chocolate bar with different local chocolate and adult options. The marshmallows were handmade by A Spoonful of Sugar in San Francisco. We created coffee sleeves with the couple’s logo for take away hot chocolate. We spiked them with peppermint schnapps. Perfect on a snowy night. Katie is wildly creative and continuously popping up with ideas. Katie sourced and for local branches and flowers. We brought the anemones from home and mixed them to create the bouquet, tabletops, and adorned the horse. Anemones are my favorite flower. Brittany climbed mountains of fresh snow, climbed over horses, and froze her butt off to get all these gorgeous shots! She is a trooper and will go the extra mile(s) to create amazing images. Brittany’s mother knit the blanket you see photographed (which she is starting to sell! shop opens soon, keep your eyes open) The dress is ugghhh-mazing. Stone Cold Fox makes stunning gowns and are my new favorite dress designer.

Darci Greenwood from Beargrass Gardens… It is not hard to find inspiration when designing a wedding at The Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana. Frosted covered mountains and wide open, snow covered ranchland makes for a beautiful backdrop for an intimate affair. The Ranch at Rock Creek graciously hosted us to tell this Winter Love Story.

When designing this shoot, my first thought was to use winter colors and tones that complement the landscape, yet use touches of luxurious warmth to enhance the western allure. A color story of gray-blue, neutrals and a deep rustic red came together perfectly. The red ties together the season and a timeless look of elegance.

Styling the couple, I knew we wanted a very timeless look. We found the most perfect winter gown from designer Rosa Clara at Velvet Bride. Luxurious and thick, the material was perfectly flowing yet warm for a winter bride. We completed her look with her hair down with soft curls to fit the ranch setting.

The tabletop was draped with a lovely cream patterned LaTavola Linen and then a linen runner in an earthy brown. Lush florals in hammered silver containers, silver antler candlesticks with a variety of natural colored tapers and silver bud vases filled the middle and ran down the entire table. Each place setting had beautiful plate ware from The TOP accented with crystal goblets and vintage champagne coupes. We added the vintage teal wineglass for a warm blue tone to the table. Natural grayish/blue geode slices were used as place cards with Anna from Cast Calligraphy’s gorgeous script.

Intimate Glacier National Park Wedding

This might just be the cutest cake setup I’ve ever seen. It’s genius if you ask me, and ties perfectly into this lakeside soiree complete with breathtaking views of Glacier National Park. Planned and designed by Field Wedding Studio, there’s no shortage of detail to gush over. With Orange Photographie behind the lens, THE VAULT got a bit bigger and a whole lot more beautiful today.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/147964601 600 338]

From The Bride…My vision of my wedding day was a late summer’s day next to the lake with the beautiful backdrop of water, mountains, and blue sky; and Glacier National Park did not cease to amaze me. There was a soft acoustic tune playing by our guitarist; we were surrounded by lush flowers of pastels and soft embellishments, all while gathered around by the love and happiness of our family. Our officiant fit perfectly into the mold of our vision and delivered a sweet but simple ceremony that will forever be a precious memory. Our reception was dreamy as well. We were tucked in behind the trees upon a hill where the most gorgeous dinner site was set up for us. There were mountain views, along with a mini bar, bistro tables and dinner table flourished with beautiful flowers of pastel and hints of teal and mercury glass for decor. A rustic tent held our delicious wedding cake and small pecan pies, and the mood was set by string lighting as the sun set behind the mountains. It was truly a magical day.

From Kelsey Motes-Conners of FieldCrystal & Clark envisioned an intimate destination gathering of a dozen of their loved ones to celebrate their marriage, and we were thrilled to collaborate with them to create the wedding they imagined. While working with these two totally lovely (and in love) human beings, we were inspired by their unique combination of classic taste & playful style– and we designed each personal detail of their day with that combination in mind. Our favorite moment was watching Crystal, Clark & their guests arrive by vintage coach to their dinner setting, all waving the small ‘YAY’ flags we made just for them in pure celebration.

Rustic Glam Montana Summer Wedding

What started as a family friendship turned into so much more after a fun-filled, fateful trip to Nashville. Fast forward a few years, and these cuties are saying “I do” at the gorgeous Glacier View Lodge. With Jeremiah & Rachel Photography, along with Moonstone Pictures, capturing every moment, it’s a happy ending to one sweet fairytale. Hop on over to our VAULT to see it play out from start to finish!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/125212717 600 338]

From the Bride… Justin and I first met at a high school golf tournament. Justin built a long friendship with my brother, Joseph. Justin began joining our family for many dinners, whitefish trips, rounds of golfs, and Griz games. From there, I tried to set up ALL my friends with this sweet, handsome, and laid back friend of my brother’s. Eight years into our friendship, the infamous trip to Nashville, Tennessee happened. My family was headed to Nashville for the Griz Game. My brother could not make the trip so we had two open tickets. My Dad pressured Justin and Kevin O’Day to join us. (The point of the story here is that this trip was the first time Justin and I had hung out without my brother around!) On the last night of the trip, Justin and I were dancing and flirting all night in downtown Nashville on Broadway Street. Several cocktails later, he leaned in and whispered in my ear “If we’re gonna do this, we have to, like, get married!” . . . and here we are!

We went to Whitefish, Montana for our two year anniversary. Justin had picked up the ring that morning and proposed to me just hours later in my favorite place! We celebrated by having a wonderful dinner at Stillwater Fish House and ending the night with champagne and chocolate! Justin and I wanted one thing when it came to our wedding, which was for everyone there to have a wonderful time and remember it as an incredible celebration. We wanted it to be timeless, elegant and magical. We knew right away Whitefish would be our location. We looked at Glacier View Lodge and knew it was the perfect location to host our 250 guests, for both the ceremony and reception. The color palette fell into place when I found my dress and bridesmaid dresses; ivory, blush, champagne gold and of course, sparkle! The floral was very important in our event design. We wanted the floral to set the scene right away for our guests… romantic and dreamy. Our wedding planner, Cara, did an amazing job on all the floral arrangements, centerpieces, rose petal aisle, and arbor. As the cellos played, our guests were greeted with gold sugar rimmed champagne – cheers to us! It was really important to us that our ceremony was very personal and special, not only to us, but all our guests too. We wanted everyone to enjoy this moment. We chose Justin’s cousin as our officiant to make it more personal. Tucker did an incredible job sharing our story. Our favorite moment was when we exchanged the vows we wrote together. A truly incredible moment. We walked out to “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne while our family and friends tossed Flutter Fetti on us, making for a great photo-op! Then came cocktail hour with live music by Fresh off the Vine and amazing passed appetizers by Bravo Catering! We moved to the beautiful huge tent for our reception. It was important to us that during dinner only Frank Sinatra was played, per Justin’s request, in honor of our late grandpas. We were moved to tears by the unbelievable speeches made by our Best Man and Tripod of Honor (I had 3 MOH). We shared this warm September evening, under a beautiful Montana sunset, surrounded by all those who love us. It was truly magical and the best night of our lives.

My advice to other brides is to do what makes you happy as a couple. It’s impossible to please everyone and ultimately it’s your day. If you can, hire a planner and a videographer. The day will fly by and you’ll need a go-to person for all those little things (and BIG things.) As the bride, you do most of the work leading up to that day, but on the day-of you are busy and it’s impossible to do it all yourself. Having a videographer capture the details of the day helped me relax knowing that I will be able to relive all the parts of the day I missed. Pinterest is great but overwhelming with endless options. Decide what you want and stick to it. Finally, allow others to help. It takes a team to make the day come together, whether they are hired or not. Also, try to remind yourself to keep everything in perspective. At the end of the day, all that matters is the love you have for the one standing next to you.

Modern + Chic Wedding Inspiration

Every ounce of this punchy, poppy shoot sums up why we’re loving modern affairs right now. Not only does the happy dose of color splash a smile across your face in an instant, but the patterns and textures will add a twinkle to your eye, too. We’ve got Cara of Goldfinch Events & Design and Mum’s Flowers to thank for all of the (totally pin-worthy) goodness and Jeremiah and Rachel Photography for the stunning imagery here in THE VAULT!

From Jeremiah and Rachel PhotographyThe inspiration for this shoot was simple, to be fun and colorful! Our adorable model, Ruby, looked like a dream in the Alvina Valenta gown has she twirled, giggled, and drank champagne. Something we hope every bride can do on her wedding day! Cara from Goldfinch Events did an amazing job at creating a colorful and poppy vibe with gold sequins, black and white accents, and the main focus, bright and happy flowers! She used giant coral peonies, orange ranunculus, white and yellow poppies, magenta roses, and maiden hair fern to bring it all together. One of our favorite details was using a mix of citrus fruits! Cara also created an amazing hanging floral backdrop that seemed to dance in the breeze. The whole shoot feels so fun and fresh, and you can’t help but feel happy when you look at it!

Romantic Bee Themed Lakeside Wedding in Montana

I may be allergic to bees, but I’m not allergic to beauty. Case in point? This Bee themed lakeside wedding in Montana. Abuzz with love, fab design details, and one gown that’ll make you go wow, this blue hued affair has got style that goes for days. Jeremiah And Rachel Photography have officially collected a hive of honey in the form of pretty images and we’ve got it all waiting for you in THE VAULT!

From Jeremiah And Rachel PhotographyDanielle and Andrew are two of the most beautiful people we’ve ever photographed! The entire day was such a dream, and it was absolutely perfect, set on the lake, under a clear tent with blue skies streaming through. Darci from Beargrass Gardens did an incredible job at using inspiration from the setting, Danielle’s blue eyes, and her family’s ranch in Montana. One of the most unique design aspects from this wedding is the bee symbol. Danielle’s family own a ranch in Montana that has a beekeeping operation and produces some amazing honey. The invitations had a small bee symbol, Darci used bee wax seals, the signature cocktail was The Bee’s Knees (it was a MAJOR hit with the guests), and guests favors were actual honey produced from the family ranch. She used light blue linens, blue larkspur in the lush floral designs, blue vintage glass ware, the lightest blue bridesmaid’s dresses from Amsale, also using a clear tent, lightly draped in fabric, so we could still see the big sky of Montana. A unique thing about Danielle and Andrew’s day was having Danielle’s soon-to-be-brother in law officiate the wedding. Danielle’s grandpa also handmade the cross for them at the alter. The sunset over Flathead Lake was absolutely breath taking that night! As Danielle and Andrew strolled hand in hand along the dock, all the guests came to the beach just to take it all in and watch the two newlyweds. The day went flawlessly and there were many many hugs and tears shared between the two new families joined together. Both the father’s toasts had everyone laughing and wiping away tears. Everyone danced the night away to the music of the live band, Jones & Fischer!

Danielle’s family is from Montana, while Andrew’s family travelled mostly from Seattle. The couple met in college at University of Arizona. Andrew is an Engineer and Danielle is a nurse.

From The Bride…Wow. To put in words our wedding day. Such a difficult thing to do, but now that it is just over one year ago, I have had time to think and reflect on what an incredible day that was for me and my now husband! He grew up on Swan Lake and it is also where he proposed so that enchanted lake definitely has a very special meaning to both of us. Also, his father, Mike Laabs, built many homes on this lake which makes it even more special because we lost his dad in a climbing accident on MacDonald Peak more than 15 years ago. I also lost my mom to cancer in 2007. When we first met, it was after we had both lost our parents, and we always talk about how we wish that we had met them, but we still feel such a strong pull from them on a daily basis. They were both our rock. Our inspiration. They both valued family and love above anything else. They both loved a good party and sharing memories with loved ones. Therefore, we celebrated their legacy during our wedding by lighting candles on the dock during the ceremony. Mike Murray sang all our ceremony music and even made my husband cry! There are some great photos that our fantastic photographers Rachel and Jeremiah caught of us on that dock saying our vows. Our guests were extremely entertained because I don’t think Kelly (my husband) remembered that he was Mic’ed up! He kept saying such adorable things to me and they were heard throughout the audience super loud!! It caused quite a cute laughter that only he could cause! We then danced the night away under the twinkly Big Montana Sky and the party rocked with Bonnie Foster Productions leading the charge! You know it is a party when each and every person at your wedding is on the dance floor from Song #1 all the way until the very end! Cara Finch and her team at Goldfinch Events and Design were absolutely on point the entire way! We had a S’More’s Bar and fresh homemade ice cream cones from Sweet Peaks instead of a cake. We had a late night munchie bar for guests as well! There was a huge lightning storm that circled the property during the event but luckily only hit us for about 5 seconds! R&J caught an amazing photo of it though from the end of the dock. All and all, it was truly a dream come true at a truly special place. I could not have asked for anything more!!!

From Jeremiah and Rachel PhotographyCourtney and Kelly know how to throw one amazing party, and their wedding day was no exception! With Courtney’s exquisite taste and the amazing team behind Goldfinch Events, the couple set off to make a day to remember! Their wedding was set at Swan Lake at a family friend’s home, surrounded by 100 year old cedar trees in the heart of Montana. With the theme of “celebrate the moments” Courtney and Kelly greeted their friends from all parts of the country with ice cold Moscow Mules in custom copper mugs, Sweet Peaks ice-cream (a local favorite) and a rocking band that had us all dancing until the morning. Courtney made jaws drop in her Ines di Santo gown and Mum’s flowers created the most amazing centerpieces with pops of magenta. We were so inspired all day by Courtney and Kelly’s love for each other and their friends and family.

Black & White Rustic Montana Wedding

You might believe black and white is only reserved for the ballroom weddings, but this rustic affair is out to prove otherwise. Set at Montana’s Flathead Lake, it’s a lesson in bringing formal elegance outdoors with no floral detail overlooked thanks to Beargrass Gardens. Follow me to The Vault for lots more captures by Rebecca Hollis.

From The Bride…. My favorite memory from our wedding day isn’t just one moment but just an overall feeling of love. All of our friends and family came to celebrate with us and to finally say “I do”, kiss and celebrate as husband and wife with all of them present was amazing. Being married to the person whom I love most and want to spend my life with is my favorite thing!

Growing up in Montana and spending my summers at Flathead Lake is part of who I am today and I really wanted to show our family and friends how beautiful Montana is. Many of our guests traveled to attend our wedding, so I wanted to make the location and trip a wonderful experience for them and show them why I have so much pride for where I am from.

Our wedding was an absolute dream for me. To see how everything I imagined for the past year play out perfectly in front of me from my dress to the bridal party attire to the decor and food I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Even before choosing the venue and location Joe and I decided we were not going to have any prominent colors such as blues or pinks for our florals or bridal party attire. I loved that idea since I really wanted to keep our theme classic.

For the ceremony Joe and I stood under an arbor that I had designed, which then my brother had made for us which was very special to me. It was decorated with dried hops vines and small white flowers. Even with the heat of the day they still looked great by the 5 o’clock ceremony. The entrance to the isle were wine barrels with stunning arrangements in gold vases. Once the ceremony was over those isle arrangements were then moved into the reception area for double duty.

I love the idea of texture and layers so I chose a classic style of neutral florals. There all different types of ivory flowers in clusters of vases upon each round guest table with gold, silver or a mix of mercury violets with candles glowing in each one. At the long rectangular head table were olive branches stretching lengthwise done the center and over the edges of the table with vases upon vase of gorgeous ivory flowers being lit up by more gold and silver violets and tall clear candle holders. Each table had a ivory tablecloth with a glossy taupe napkin with the an olive branch twig to add to the elegance of each table.

My bridal bouquet was nothing I could have imagined! It was absolutely stunning, it was full and beautiful with ivory, blush and light green florals. It was elegant with ribbon all the way from Paris tied around the stems. I will say it was heavier then I thought but I sure made my arms look great in photos!

The food that we chose was so delicious, I even had seconds. I never thought that I would have chosen a chocolate chip fudge wedding cake but It was the perfect choice. The whole night was a dream and it was such a wonderful way to start our marriage!

From The Groom…My favorite memory was watching my wife and our closet family and friends walk up and stand by our sides, while standing under the arbor her brother had made for us. Having the people we care about most all being there made me feel appreciation for how happy I was. I was so happy to be marring my wife and live the life that we will share together.

Romantic Al Fresco Montana Wedding

I had the pleasure of passing through “Big Sky Country” this past spring and it is every bit as spectacular as Tamara Gruner‘s imagery of this darling day portray it to be. An ideal setting for a dash of rustic, a sprinkle of romance and so much love—Erin and Sean said their I Do’s with personal touches sewn in every corner, from the Missoula Mayor officiant to a local microbrew bar. See it all here in The Vault!

From The Bride…Our love story began about eight years ago. We met in college in Missoula, Montana. He was a Chicago boy, and I was a small town Montana girl. Although we crossed paths here and there, in classes and with mutual friends, it wasn’t until one night amongst friends that they realized their potential for happiness together. She remembers her first thoughts being “he is most handsome, sweetest gentleman I’ve ever met!” He called his brother later that night and told him he had met the woman he was going to marry. They’ve been together, through thick and thin ever since.

Sean loves to cook, and I love to entertain. Combine that with an affinity for fine wines, and you’ve got a recipe for a beautiful and memorable wedding! Sean and I hired a professional Chef to bring our own custom menu to life. I designed my wedding literally from the ground up, including pieces of my custom Hayley Paige gown. As well as ordering loose stems of flowers and having them arranged by family & friends. In lieu of traditional favors a donation was made to the American Breast Cancer Foundation, as my sister was fighting a strong battle against the disease. Since Missoula was a common bond for the couple, there were a lot of local elements added into the wedding – local microbrews at the bar, a family home that has been a part of Erin’s life since the day she was born and holds many cherished memories. Even the Mayor of Missoula as the officiant!

From Events By AutumnWith all the local flair, you’d never guess that Erin and Sean planned the wedding from 1,000 miles away. They reside in Denver, Colorado, and discovered destination “DIY” weddings have a laundry list of challenges! That’s when Erin decided to hire me to assist with the “day of” planning. Together, there were many, many hours on the phone, talking and texting images back and forth of what they were looking for, and what was available locally. Erin had a great eye for style, and made all the planning and design decisions, but I provided support and guidance as she waded through all the details.

Montana is known as “Big Sky” country, and it was important to Sean & Erin that there was no tent (much to the dismay of many family members and myself). But Erin insisted, “It never rains in Montana in late July! We want to celebrate under the Montana sky!” So, of course, while stepping into her wedding dress, she remembers looking out the window to see a massive storm rolling through, which brought torrential rain! (There’s a popular Montana saying “If you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes!”) Centerpieces began toppling over in the wind. . . All the handmade place cards, table numbers…C’est la vie! But despite these setbacks, in true Montana style, five minutes later, the weather cleared, and her amazing family and wedding staff jumped into action, drying linens, wiping tables & benches – pulling everything back together in perfect time! It turned into the most beautiful day she could ever have imagined. Every detail was perfect.

Erin’s favorite moment: During the ceremony, we were surprised when our acoustic guitar duo played the song La Vie En Rose followed by a reading by my beloved cousin from “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”. Perfection. Tears of happiness filled her eyes. After that, rings were exchanged, a kiss, the world was presented with a new man and wife, and they celebrated into the night under the big Montana sky!

Modern + Elegant Montana Bridal Session

When you take a gorgeous couple and place them in an equally as stunning scene, the results are pretty much stop-everything-you’re-doing-and-stare worthy. And when the cute couple modeling for Danford Photography also happens to be some real life newlyweds, the love is palpable. Wearing an ethereal Leanne Marshall gown from Velvet Bride, this lucky lady posed with her new hubby with the amazing Montana views in the background – see it all this beauty this way!

From Danford Photography… My wish for this editorial was to focus on elements I always find myself drawn to: modern simplicity, gorgeous landscapes, and a true connection between two people. This Leanne Marshall Designs dress perfectly fit the vision, with its simple bodice and ethereal layers of soft silk chiffon, and was complemented by a beautiful bouquet with draping greenery. Our models, who are real life newlyweds, are so in love with each other, which made them so sweet to photograph! We loved photographing them in the gorgeous natural setting that is our home: wild, beautiful Montana.

A Romantic Outdoor Wedding in Montana

What happens when you set a wedding in the great Montana outdoors and sprinkle it with gorgeous creations by Mum’s Flowers? A gallery chock-full of rustic wedding perfection, that’s what. Orange Photographie came alongside to tell the story of the day, and flip through one woodland wedding moment after another in the gallery.

From Orange Photographie… This beautiful wedding in Whitefish, Montana was full of personal, meaningful details that were special to Jess and Jon…. seating arrangements designated by locations they’ve travelled to together, their favorite quotes, and library book due date slips that served as place cards (they also noted special dates in the couple’s relationship).

While Montana weddings can tend towards an overabundance of rusticity, Jess made sure that the design had just enough rustic touches to stay true to the Big Sky setting while still keeping it fresh and elegant. It was a balanced blend of subtle bucolic touches (the outdoor setting, farmhouse tables, woodland-inspired invitations) with sophisticated romance (a beautiful lace Maggie Sottero gown, lush, soft-hued florals, and one of the prettiest bridal updos we’ve ever seen). And most of all, the highlights of the day were the many tender ways in which they continually showered each other with love, beginning with their sweet and emotional gift exchange. The bride recounted her favorite moment: “It was at sunset when we were taking those photos and could just have a few moments to enjoy each other and the day… those are my favourite photos because I think you did an amazing job capturing that moment.” The smiles on their faces gave away how head over heels they are for each other. Their wedding was truly a perfect Montana midsummer night’s dream.

From the beautiful Bride… I finally experienced every little girl’s dream that every big girl pretends is no big deal. My best friend of nine years asked me to be his lady forever. When it was decided that we would travel back to our favorite getaway and my hometown for the nuptials, I was emotional. When I realized the date was only five months away, I was… emotional.

After definitely not overanalyzing the time constraints, I thought about every piece of décor that I wanted to make. It was also important for me to include my wonderfully creative family in the crafting process. Of course they would want to see my dreams realized through countless hours of “slave” labor. It was my big day and they really love me. However crazy the idea may have seemed or felt during the anxiety filled production up to the wedding, it resulted in a gratification that I did not anticipate. During that special day, I would look and see all of these beautifully handcrafted pieces made by those who are closest to me. Not only did my vision come to fruition, but an even greater nostalgia was felt knowing how it all came together.

Before getting too crazy (figuratively and literally) with planning and crafting, I had to hone in on a style for the affair. Yes, we all love being pink, frilly and fancy, but I also wanted the décor to reflect my other half, as well. It’s easy to forget that this is a celebration of two often very different personalities. In other words, it can become really girly, really quick. With my man in mind, I decided to introduce more rustic and brawny elements. After countless hours on blogs, magazines and Pinterest, I pulled together a style palette fusing my bright and delicate taste with our love for the outdoors and travel. This became my guiding light for all of the furnishings and crafts to come.

From Goldfinch Events & Design… Inspired by Claire Pettibone’s gorgeous couture collection and one of our favorite dresses, “Sky Between the Branches” (worn by Priscilla Chan for her nuptials to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg), the style of the shoot evolved into something ethereal and feminine with a touch of vintage romance. Enchanted by the intricate embroidery and sequined details of this low-backed gown, we designed the decor to mirror the dress with barely blush florals, hints of bohemian gold and brass and grey linen. What better place than to set it all than in an apple orchard with the majesty of Montana’s mountains setting a perfect backdrop. We were so lucky to team up with an incredible crew of vendors who matched our vision so perfectly.

From Jeremiah and Rachel PhotographyThough we spend a lot of time on the road, shoots like this will always remind us of why we call Montana home. Perfect light, beautiful mountains and an amazing Claire Pettibone dress made for wonderful images. We loved working with Aimee and Chris, two of the most beautiful people we have ever photographed. Working closely with Cara of Goldfinch Events and Design and her wonderful staff, it was easy to capture the essence of our collective vision.

From the Bride… Magical. Elegant. MT Sunset. Laughter and Happy Tears. Love. And one epic dance party – These are the words that come to mind when I reflect on our July Montana wedding. Mother Nature took care of us – we woke up and the entire mountain range was blurred by smoke yet when I came out in my dress to take photos the smoke had cleared and we were blessed with a true Big Sky Montana backdrop for our much awaited wedding day.

My husband grew up in Bozeman, Montana and I knew after my first visit that I wanted to get married there – it’s truly breathtaking. So, this past July, after a year and a half engagement we brought over 100 guests from all over the U.S. to Big Sky Country to experience the beautiful landscape, adventurous outdoor activities, and to join us as we shared our forever vows.

Our wedding aesthetic was fairly simple – we wanted to ensure we captured and showcased the beauty of Montana and the stunning environment in which we were getting married. The color palette was neutral – ivory, champagne, metallics. My Liancarlo gown was a rich champagne color with beautiful lace that faded into tulle. I loved pairing the formality of the dress with the rustic nature of the barn. Alex wore a Ludlow J. Crew three-piece navy blue suit and looked so handsome. The bridesmaids wore silk chiffon Amsale dresses in Champagne – it was a perfect pairing to my dress and they just floated amongst the fields. For flowers I wanted loose, organic, free-flowing neutral flowers and Jen at Habitat Floral Studio nailed it. I almost cried when I saw my bouquet for the first time – again, it was the perfect pair with my formal gown.

Our ceremony was very important to the two of us. We met numerous times with our Reverend to make sure we all felt really good about how the most important words of “I do” would come together. It was beautiful, memorable, and moving. Our Reverend, who has been marrying couples for over 20 years, told his congregation on Sunday that it was the first wedding that he had ever cried at. Framed by the beautiful Bridger Mountain Range, it was truly perfect.

Our reception was held in a Big Yellow Barn (literally). The barn was built in 1917 and recently turned into an event venue. All the dining was held up top where the hay used to be stored. The tables were set in long italian style with lush green garland runners, creamy ivory blooms, and rustic wooden boxes filled with beautiful flowers. As the sun set we went out into the field to capture the infamous Montana sunset in our wedding gown and suit; and we danced to “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green for our first dance as the MT skies turn a rich purple color through the barn windows. Our DJ, who we flew in from Seattle, kept the dance floor packed….at times some of the guests were a little nervous the barn floor was going to collapse as everyone danced until the wee hours of the night.

A small detail: My mom’s father (my grandpa) died in an accident two years ago and was taken far too early from our family. I knew he would be looking down on Alex and I when we got married and smiling, and I knew my Nana would have loved to have sat next to him and squeezed his hand as we said our vows, so I surprised my mom and Nana with a small charm with his picture on their corsages. It was a small touch but I think they both loved having him to hold that day.

What did we love the most about our wedding? Too many things to count…however, being that Bozeman is now our new home we absolutely loved having all of our closest friends and family come experience Montana and share their love and energy with us on our wedding day. We both felt like we were wrapped in a blanket of love the entire weekend.

Sunrise Engagement Session

Admittedly, I am a little biased.  I’m a true blue Montana girl, and happen to think it’s the greatest place on earth.  So this sweet Belgrade engagement session captured by Rebecca Hollis?  It’s pure perfection (obviously).  Think one stunning duo, one gorgeous sunrise and an entire gallery of magical images featuring the most beautiful backdrop you could ever lay your eyes upon.  Insert happy sigh here.

From Rebecca Hollis Photography… Mallory and Derek met while in college through a few mutual friends. The two formed their relationship while going on long runs in a park in their college town. It was in that same park where their relationship started that Derek popped the big question to Mallory, and she, of course, said yes!

When deciding where they wanted to take their engagement photos, Montana easily came to mind. The two spent a summer together on a friend’s ranch in Livingston, Montana toward the beginning of their relationship. Because of such wonderful memories, and undeniably beautiful scenery, a Montana engagement shoot only made sense!

From the Bride… Working with Rebecca Hollis for the engagement shoot was so much fun! Rebecca easily bonded with us and brought such a fun and lively spirit to the day. Our engagement session with Rebecca was absolutely perfect!

From Laurie Arons Special EventsI was inspired to create the Wedding Planner Masterclass after my experience collaborating with friend and colleague Jose Villa on four of his photography workshops. Held in intimate, beautiful settings, his workshops are an opportunity for students to step away from daily life and focus on education and creativity in an inspiring environment. I found it incredibly rewarding getting to know the next generation of wedding photographers and help them develop their businesses. I also cherished the design process with such talented industry professionals, as we dreamed up unique wedding scapes in these spectacular locales.

I realized there is a need for something just like this in the planning world – a workshop for young wedding planners to gain practical industry knowledge, but also be inspired to take their work to the next level. The Wedding Planner Masterclass is a four day intensive workshop where I’ll share substantial advice, resources and secrets I’ve learned planning weddings for over 20 years. Students will also hear from industry leaders (Jose Villa, Mindy Rice Design and Style Me Pretty to name a few!) to gain unique perspective into their disciplines and build valuable relationships.

I chose to hold the Masterclass at the Ranch at Rock Creek as a luxurious escape from the daily stresses of event planning. This five-star ranch is visually spectacular and has outstanding service, so students can take a deep breath and open their minds to the experience. As we share meals and enjoy activities at the ranch, there will be countless opportunities for students to ask questions, share stories and make new friends. We’ve also planned some beautiful wedding designs and special surprises to make this a significant and memorable experience for all.

The Wedding Planner Masterclass will be held April 20th – 24th, 2015 at The Ranch at Rock Creek in Philipsburg, Montana. Space is limited, so visit lauriearons.com/masterclass to register. Email events@lauriearons.com for more details.
