Elegant Cabo Wedding

Take a stunning duo, a dream team of vendors (hello, Amy Abbott EventsDel Cabo Event Design and Pina Hernandez) and an amazing Cabo locale and the results are this: a seriously sophisticated day overflowing with elegant details and beautiful moments.  From the fabulous golden touches to the lace table runners to the breathtaking seaside ceremony.  See it all captured by Sara Richardson in THE VAULT right this way.

From the Bride… I have always wanted to get married near the ocean and Cabo has always held a special place in my heart. Cullen and I have traveled there several times and made many great memories there. When we got engaged it was an easy decision to choose Cabo as the place to have our wedding weekend. The beautiful beaches, laid-back vibe, and great restaurants make Cabo a great place to throw a party. Within a few weeks of getting engaged we flew down to scout out a location for our big day. We hired the amazing Amy Abbott of Amy Abbott Events and scouted out our venue. We chose Cabo del Sol because it held the perfect mix of rustic elegance and natural beauty.

Our wedding day was absolutely perfect! We had 175 of our closest friends and family join us over the Memorial day weekend to celebrate. Amy Abbott and her awesome staff went above and beyond my expectations for the event and executed my vision perfectly. Everything from the lounge furniture, hanging lanterns and glass blown hearts on the place settings were perfect. Cullen and I were in agreement that the music was the most important element to the party. The James Speer band flew in from Austin and had our guests dancing before dinner was served and well into the evening.

Our friends and family had an amazing time and we are still hearing about how much fun our wedding was. Sara Richardson perfectly captured all our most precious moments throughout the night and we have a lot of really fun pictures from the dance party with all our guests. We both wish we could go back and experience it all one more time!

Paradise Found: Romantic Tropical Wedding in Mexico

Dear readers, get ready to pick your jaw up off the floor, because this wedding is beyond gorg. For starters? The Bride wore Carolina Herrera and the ceremony? Well, nothing beats exchanging vows on the steps of a historic chapel with Sara Richardson Photography behind the lens. It’s a day graced with unreal Arianna O’Campo design elements, and we’ve got it in THE VAULT!

From Arianna O’CampoMichael & Heather were a joy to work with, Heather really knew since the beginning, she was looking for a very romantic, classy & elegant feel on her wedding day. We decided to go with beautiful floral arrangements of green and white to keep the ceremony location vibrant and beautiful. The reception was decorated very clean, using ivory, gold and beautiful phalenopsis orchids and candles as centerpieces.

Elegant Los Cabos Summer Wedding

It’s my belief that a destination wedding should literally and figuratively whisk you away, where the bride, groom and all their guests are removed from reality for a brief but beautiful bit of time. And it just so seems that this handsome couple would agree with me, saying “I do” in a chic celebration, designed by Mishka Designs and coordinated by Leslie Bost of One Happenings. Iris and Light captured every second of this stylish soiree for us to fawn over in our VAULT right this way!

From Mishka DesignsKate and Howie’s wedding week included a beautiful cruise around the famous Los Arcos and culminated in a beautiful, garden-inspired wedding at the now renamed The Resort at Pedregal. Kate loves details and she poured her heart and soul into every detail of the wedding… from the floral grown and beautiful shoes she wore at the rehearsal cruise to the wedding invites, save-the-dates, welcome bags down to the shade of blue ribbon tied around the napkins at her reception.

Her ceremony walkway walked right into the middle of the infinity pool and created a beautiful backdrop, as though they were standing at water’s edge (which they pretty much were!). We were granted permission to take out the in-house light fixtures at her reception location and replace them with beautiful crystal chandeliers and that created a warm, beautiful ambience for later-on in the evening. Some more special details from Kate’s wedding included remembrance photos for her bouquet wrap, hand-embroidered handkerchief for her groom, all signage was hand-painted (including the lengthy escort board!), the menus took months to design in order to get the font and the colors the perfect shade.

The love Kate and Howie had for each other radiated from every fun-filled moment to the next and their wedding was planned with the same loving detail that they both put into their courtship.

Vibrant + Romantic Mexico Destination Wedding

This isn’t your average run-of-the-mill wedding—it’s a fiesta. With some of the coolest bridesmaids’ dresses ever, authentic touches from the little town of Sayulita (tin stars, bright flowers, maracas and vibrant textiles) and the ultimate beachside setting, it’s clear this wedding was unforgettable, so enjoy each moment planned by The Dazzling Details and captured by Jillian Mitchell in THE VAULT.

From The Bride…Jimmy and I feel in love with the beautiful little beach town of Sayulita, Mexico on our first romantic trip together as a couple. Two years later he proposed to me there during a New Years trip, so we clearly knew there was no other place in the World that we’d rather get married. During our visits I became obsessed with the vibe of the town, the people, all the beautiful and fashionable local shops and restaurants, and the many vibrant colors decorating the streets. So when planning our wedding, Sayulita itself had a huge impact on my inspiration. The Dazzling Details did an amazing job of capturing exactly what I envisioned for florals and decor. My bouquet and tablescapes reflected the bright colors I wanted but nothing too over the top, and just enough to add to the already beautiful scenery. We really wanted to let the beauty of the venue and beach speak for itself, so keeping it minimal was something we really tried to do. One piece of decor that I became totally obsessed with during our visits were these little tin stars that are used in the decor everywhere. I wanted to be sure to incorporate these in our wedding somehow and decided it would be perfect to have them hanging off the back of the alter… and it ended up looking great! Johann, the owner of the venue was amazing making sure every little detail was perfect for us. Small details aside, we really just wanted everyone to wear their party pants, have a good time, and fall in love with Sayulita just like we did.

We couldn’t be happier with the vendors we choose. I took a lot of time researching and making sure I picked vendors that seemed to be a good fit, and it all worked out wonderfully! Investing in our photographer was very important to us, and Jillian Mitchell gave us killer photographs that we will cherish forever. We also happened upon our venue two years prior to our wedding just walking down a secluded beach and stumbling on this incredible house sitting on the cliff. The next year, when we got engaged in Sayulita, we walked by the same property and this time there was a little sign out front that said ‘Teitiare Estate’. I took a photo of it, researched it when I got home, and lucky for us they had just started doing weddings! It was an absolutely dream of a venue, and to be honest, I wish I lived there!

There are so many favorite moments of our wedding day, its hard to narrow it down to just one. But for me, it would have to be the ceremony. Walking down the aisle with both of my parents to the love of my life, with “shes got a way” playing on acoustic guitar was a moment I will never forget *insert tears*. And standing up there with my best friends by my side and many other amazing friends and family watching from the crowd. There was a moment when Jimmy was reading his vows and you could hear the crashing of the waves and feel the ocean breeze. Right then, I made conscience point to be present in that one moment, as I knew the rest of the day was going to fly by. I looked up and saw tears in many our friends and families eyes, and it meant so much to know everyone present was there to celebrate us and our love. It was such an unforgettable day and I couldn’t be happier! We just hope everyone had as good of a time as we did, and we can never thank our loved ones enough for being apart of our day.

If I could give any advice it would be to take every moment in because the day flies by in the blink of an eye, it really does! From the moment you wake up try not to rush things and give yourself time to be able to just hang with your bridesmaids and mom/mom-in-law etc. I feel like I was stressing and rushing around all day and didn’t really get much time relax with my girls, and I wish I would have. Also, make a point to take time alone with your husband after the ceremony, even if only for 15 minutes. It really makes a difference to just sit for a second and be together as new hubs and wife, to be in that moment together. Other than that, I wish I had hired a full time planner. Even though my day-of venue coordinator was awesome, I really would’ve been more relaxed if I had someone handling all the little details and worries of the day. As my husband said, the day was legendary and we wish we could live it all over again, and again.

From the Groom… We did most of our own planning so the few hours before the ceremony were not as relaxing as we would have hoped, the weather was still questionable and on top of all that I forgot the vows at home that I spent so much time writing the month before the wedding… My mind was going to a million different places, I had a lot of things to do and time was flying. Still stressed and sweating by go time I remember seeing her come down the hill for our first look and she looked so beautiful, so classic, against the lush landscape at Teitiare she stood out like the sun. I knew in her smile that everything was going to be perfect, at that moment I found absolute peace and it set up the rest of the night which was legendary to say the least.

Tropical + Elegant Mexico Beach Wedding

What better reason to escape the bitter cold of winter than with a destination wedding south of the border in sunny Cancun? With a gorgeous Katie May wedding dress from Lovely Bride, beautiful ‘maids in pastel yellow Donna Morgan, a dreamy ceremony on the beach and close family and friends, this wedding wasn’t just a beautiful day—it was a beautiful beginning to happily ever after. Escape to Mexico with Meg Miller Photography here.

From The Bride…Shortly after our incredible engagement in Central Park, Justin and I both agreed that we wanted to have a destination wedding. What better place to get married in February than under the Mexican sun surrounded by our closest family and friends?! We are both from different states, so we loved the idea of having our families and friends all able to meet and spend a weekend together.

Shortly after, we chose our destination – the Excellence Playa Mujeres resort just north of Cancun. The Excellence was fabulous and really exceeded our expectations. Not only was the resort beautiful and fun, the staff was also stellar. Andrea Munguia made the wedding planning process effortless and really enjoyable.

Choosing our photographer was an easy choice for us. We are in love with Meg of Meg Miller Photography’s work, for us, it was a no-brainer to ask her to take our wedding photos! Not only is Meg a lot of fun and wonderful to work with, she is also such a talented photographer. She did a fantastic job and we’re so happy that we will forever have these photos to cherish.

Ultimately, we were very pleased with our decision to have a destination wedding. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect time.

Romantic Riviera Maya Wedding at Silversands Resorts

One part stunning wedding, one part totally awesome vacation, this darling duo knew exactly what they were doing when they whisked their friends and family off to the Secrets Silversands in the Riviera Maya to say “I do.”  Think a breathtaking seaside ceremony meets awe-inspiring details (read: dancing under the stars) meets a whole lot of pampering, Silversands style.  Head to The Vault for every last moment captured by Darling Photography.

From the Bride… When Dave and I first got engaged we knew immediately that we wanted to have a destination wedding. Neither of us wanted a “traditional” wedding, and since traveling together has been a huge part of our relationship from the start, a destination wedding just fit. We both grew up spending most of our summers on the coast, so of course getting married on the beach would be perfect!

We told our travel agent that we wanted a place with a beautiful beach, high ratings, but still affordable for us to travel to (coming from the Northeast USA) and she immediately recommended the Riviera Maya area. We looked through all of the resorts available there, and quickly settled on Secrets Silversands because it was gorgeous, 18+, all-inclusive, and had great wedding options. We basically wanted to plan a vacation with our closest family and friends, and have our wedding be the pinnacle of the vacation.

Since we wanted our wedding to be simple the planning was really easy. The most important things to me were to have a great beach setting, and to be able to bring our photographer (Darling Photo)! The resort really took care of the rest of the details and I was able to focus on choosing my dress, the girls’ dresses, and finding great bouquets we could bring with us.

Our wedding day was perfect. I have relived it a million times and still wouldn’t change a thing. The resort spa nailed my hair, the weather turned out beautiful, and our wedding planner (and photographer, thank God for her) kept everything exactly on schedule. We had a great little ceremony on the beach, and then a fantastic cocktail hour beside the beach. If I could do it all over again I’d do it exactly the same!

Romantic Barefoot Beachfront Tulum Wedding

Drenched in gorgeous Mexican sunshine and filled with too many beautiful details to count, these intimate Tulum nuptials, captured by Michelle Boyd Photography, are pure seaside perfection. And did I mention that the beautiful Bride, (seriously) handsome Groom and their entire wedding party went totally barefoot?! See it all in the gallery here, and get ready to feel the ocean breeze.

From The Bride…Matt and I both love the beach. It’s where he proposed, and where we want to settle down one day, so it was only fitting for us to say “I do” with our toes in the sand. We stumbled across a pretty little resort in Tulum, Mexico and knew right away that’s where we wanted all of our closest friends and family to join us for our wedding celebration. We had a pretty simple goal for our wedding- a laid-back, relaxing week without all of the usual formalities that come with weddings.

For the actual ceremony and reception, our goal was to keep the style simple and natural. You can’t get any better than the scenery of Tulum, so we wanted the focus to be on the gorgeous ocean backdrop. We said I do in the sand under an arch bursting with greenery, and then took it upstairs to a rooftop cafe for dinner and dancing just as the sun was setting!

Without a doubt, our favorite part of the week was getting to spend so much time with all of our family and friends in the days leading up to the wedding. It literally made our hearts so happy to see all of our guests get to know one another, let alone click so well. The whole week had such a relaxed vibe, which is so fitting for both mine and Matt’s personalities. I mean, what other bride or groom gets to say that they were involved in a competitive pool volleyball game an hour before the rehearsal dinner?

All in all, it was the perfect week/wedding celebration for Matt and I, and I don’t think we would change a single thing about it. We’re looking forward to many more years of happiness, and many more anniversary trips back to Tulum!

From the beautiful Bride… Greg had just found out his patent was official and I planned an evening of fun dedicated to Greg’s genius achievement. The celebration started at home by popping a bottle of champagne and I surprised Greg with two confetti poppers – one for each of us to make a wish on. We looked out at the city from our loft, made a toast and a silent wish. As the confetti danced around the room Greg asked me if he could tell me his wish. I told Greg you can’t tell your wish unless it comes true… but Greg was already in motion reaching for a small box in his desk drawer. Greg got down on one knee and said “My wish is for you to say yes to this question – will you marry me?!” I jumped up and down and in a high pitched burst said “yes!” The champagne and dinner reservations that were all meant for Greg’s achievement turned into an engagement celebration as we quickly called family and friends to share the exciting news – “we’re getting married!”

Engage Nizuc Gala

Twice a year, every year, the creme de la creme of the wedding industry comes together to talk shop, to inspire, to trade war stories and to be spoiled utterly rotten by the amazing duo at Engage Summits – the lovely Rebecca Grinnals and Kathryn Arce. It’s four days of pure wedding bliss. And while I’d love to spill every last detail, I’m focusing instead on the one event that every last one of YOU will find inspiring. Crafted and executed by the incredible team at Elena Damy, this is a Mexican fiesta worthy of Kings. And if ever you get the chance to attend one of the upcoming Summits, consider yourself one of the family. Oh and there may or may not have been an appearance by Salt-N-Pepa thanks to Elan ArtistsMore here!

ENGAGE! NIZUC from Julie Hill on Vimeo.

From the amazing team at Elena Damy

After attending several engage! Luxury Wedding Business Summits, we couldn’t wait for the right opportunity to introduce our industry colleagues to our beloved Mexico! When we discovered the uber-stylish, incredibly posh Nizuc Resort in Cancun, we knew we had to share it with Rebecca and Kathryn. They, too, fell in love with the breath-taking resort and asked us to design the Gala for the conference! We were honored, to say the least, and we couldn’t wait to get started designing an event that would share the warm sophisticated spirit of Mexico!

Once you get a glimpse of Nizuc’s minimalist architecture, globally-inspired interior design, and locally-influenced landscape, you can’t NOT be inspired! Thoughtful. Purposeful. Dramatic. Yet, somehow, understated and unobtrusive. It was easy to draw our own inspiration for the gala from all the earthy scenic elegance of Nizuc. We set out to use the same palette of metallics, stone and wood to create the final engage! party. Specifically, weathered gold and vintage platinum, mixed with glossy onyx black and distressed wood. Blended with geometric lines in the square and rectangular dinner tables, to the low lush white floral arrangements that kept the site lines clean and the energy “engaging” across the table, the whole design concept echoed the modern warmth of Mexico.

We brought in hand-made or locally-sourced Mexican décor elements such as mirrored containers and votive holders custom made for this occasion by artists from Jalisco, the land of tequila, mariachi and craftsmanship, complemented with oversized succulents and different types of indigenous foliage from Southeast Mexico, and a set of 103 hanging hearts made with wooden branches by artists from the Bajío region of Mexico.

The square oversized tables (each one seating 16 people) had black linens and black ghost chairs, while the rectangular tables had ivory linens (each one seating 36 people) and distressed vineyard cross-back chairs on the sides and glossy ghost chairs on the head of the tables. A wooden round dance floor was the perfect element to use as the center of the ballroom and, above it, we created an oversized, free form “chandelier” with giant natural hearts and local foliage. Smaller versions of the chandeliers were hung above some of the dinner tables.

Nizuc’s ballroom has impressive views to the mangrove swamp (which we decided to enhance with spots of light outside the ballroom), beautiful floor to ceiling wooden shutters, and a couple of elegant white stone walls, so we avoided adding draping or trusses that would ruin the already cool space and obscure the gorgeous view. Soft ambient light from our low, weathered metallic votives and hurricanes complemented the subtle settings.

Jose Villa Mexico Workshop Week Two Welcome Dinner

Fair warning, I am seriously biased to this next slice of pretty. I was lucky enough to have a seat at this incredibly gorgeous table (read: the most stunning table I’ve ever sat at) for week two of Jose Villa’s Mexico Workshop last year. We were greeted by elegant menus from Amber Moon and Anne Robin, made toasts and ate our hearts out with Casa De Perrin‘s charming tabletop rentals, feasted our eyes on the intertwining florals designed by Saipua and papel picado backdrop from Karina Puente and last but certainly not least, soaked in the beauty that Laurie Arons graced the entire evening with. Papel Picado Wedding Backdrop

This, my dears, might be the coolest wedding backdrop I’ve ever seen. And it comes as no surprise with the crazy talented Karina Puente behind all the beauty. Today, she’s giving us a behind the scenes look at how she crafted this wedding work of art which made it’s debut at Jose Villa’s Mexico Workshop last year. See Karina’s backdrop in action for the wedding shoot and a sneak peek of the welcome dinner we’ll be sharing next week!

From Karina PuenteMy name is Karina Puente and I am visual artist. Here is a glimpse into my process of creating Wedding Backdrops for the Jose Villa Photography Workshop, Mexico. My favorite part about handcrafting these pieces is the physical and conceptual process required to execute the design. My art-making always begins with a preliminary sketch to visually communicate my intention and as a result, wonderful conversations follow.

These works are fabricated in the style of Papel Picado (cut paper) and they connect me to new clients and, metaphorically, to my Mexican cultural heritage. In Mexico, Papel Picado is widely recognized and elevated as a folk art that commemorates sacred celebrations. Traditionally, tissue paper is layered, cut, and chiseled to reveal intricate designs and patterned panels. I work with knives and a material that is as whimsical as paper yet more durable and translucent. I play with dynamic scale invigorating the papercutting tradition into a contemporary practice.

My panels can run 100 feet high, flirting with light and shadow or can be installed as wedding alters, Chuppahs, or interactive design elements. My work is intended for worldwide shipment and wedding day, event, and gallery installation. My large-scale Papel Picado Backdrops invite the viewer to play and imagine possibilities. Be in touch and let’s bring your vision to life!

Vibrant Winter Destination Wedding at Playa del Carmen

I need to get myself to Mexico stat. Between the tacos, the colors, and those margaritas, I just know I’d be in my personal paradise… and that isn’t even mentioning the beaches! And if I have any doubt of where to go, Riviera Maya Haciendas is where I’ll set forth for because if this beautiful bash by Buzzworthy Events is any indication, the spot is pure magic. Britt Rene captured it all for us to crave right here!

From the Bride… Like most true love, it was met over drinks. Our mutual friend introduced us at a bar and quickly walked away so we were awkwardly alone. Luckily the awkwardness lasted only a moment and we instantly connected after that. After a long great conversation, Dan asked for my phone number and before he could finish, I had already started giving it to him. We barely waited for our first date which started at the De Young Museum and went on to a long stroll through Golden Gate Park, a low key Vietnamese dinner and drinks after. We finally looked at the clock and realized our date had lasted for 12 hours. Our friends that knew about our date were worried that they didn’t hear from us and thought we might have been kidnapped. After that, we were hooked.

Dan and I are most at home by the beach so when we got engaged we knew instantly that we wanted our wedding to take place in front of the ocean. Mexico holds a special place in our hearts because of Dan’s Mexican heritage and Playa Del Carmen was perfect. We wanted to have a wedding that was custom tailored to us as a couple so we chose two beautiful haciendas to host us. Our goal was to have a celebration where there were just as many laughs as there were tears so we worked to make the space beautiful yet youthful. Having the ceremony and reception all outdoors with the beach in front of us made the experience unforgettable.

From Ashley Smith at Buzzworthy EventsEmily and Dan emphasized that the day was really about their friends and family being enchanted by the scenery and kicking back to relax on the beach with amazing cocktails. The Riviera Maya Haciendas were a stunning setting and perfect enviornment. They are two private luxury haciendas complete with Botero’s on the walls, on the beach in Puerto Aventuras, a gated golf community next to Playa del Carmen.

The wedding began late in the afternoon at Hacienda Del Mar. The ceremony took place on top of the pool with the Caribbean sea as the backdrop and was cued by an instrumental version of Beriut’s “Nantes.” The sun set shortly after. Following the ceremony, during cocktail hour, the guests were served Chapulines from La Perla, traditional Oaxacan style, along with Gazpacho, mini Telera with Pork Pibil, Chaya and Cheese Empanadas. All of the cocktails were custom made by the groom, Dan. A slushie machine poured a Sherry Pina Colada and a refreshing margarita with blanco tequila, cucumber, genepy, lime, agave, absinthe. The groom also made a Watermelon Hibiscus and a Pineapple Mint Agua Fresca. The groom’s mother made her famous Horchata. My dear friend, and now dear friends of Emily and Dan, Sam tended bar for the event.

After Emily and Dan were announced to the wedding, guests made their way to dinner over in Hacienda Corazon where they dined, laughed and cried over the spontaneous speeches made by family member and friends. The head table was adorned with a deer skull and fresh flowers that Emily was very partial to and spent many weeks sourcing. The table numbers were made of Mexican tiles and many of the flowers were foraged by friends. When the guests returned to Hacienda Del Mar for dancing, the pool had turned into a custom Mezcal lounge lit by tiki torches in the sand and candles, where they sat ocean side and sipped many types of Mezcal de LuLa out of Copitas and danced until 2AM.

Elegant Ivory + Gold Tulum Ruins Wedding Inspiration

Inspirational Shoots are crafted for two reasons. One, to allow vendors and creators to have total freedom. And two, to provide brides with perfect ideas. Perfect moments. And this shoot crafted by Crosby & Jon with photographs by Chris & Kristen Photography marries the gorgeous Riviera Maya backdrop with truly steal-worthy wedding details. There is SO much more right here.

Colors

From Archive Rentals Mexico… Nestled along the white sandy beaches of beautiful Mexico, and only a short flight from anywhere in the States, lies the ancient and beautiful ruins of Tulum. Surrounded by this ancient city, one steps back in time to an ancient civilization, a time so different from ours, but with one striking similarity… Love.

Ruins aren’t the only alluring quality of Riviera Maya. With warm weather year round, turquoise oceans, beautiful resorts, it’s no wonder couples are choosing to marry in this Caribbean destination.

From event planners, Crosby + Jon… Rosewood Mayakoba was our first choice because it is truly the definition of paradise. It is one of our favorite places to work because the property is romantic, secluded and stunningly beautiful from every angle. But more importantly, the wedding team at Rosewood is beyond exceptional. They treat guests with such care and attention, everyone feels like a VIP.

Our designs for the day were inspired by the ethereal quality of the Tulum ruins. We wanted this inspirational photo shoot to be timeless and classic, reflecting qualities of an ancient time. We loved the idea of the juxtaposition of the ancient ruins, crumbling and raw, surrounded by jungle, being the backdrop of our ceremony, and the five star, ever so luxurious Rosewood Mayakoba hosting our reception. Chris & Kristen Photography captured our vision perfectly, and Krista Jon created florals that mimicked the elements of elegance and de-composition that we are so drawn to.

Colorful Puerto Vallarta Destination Wedding

Inspired by the bride’s Mexican heritage, this colorful destination wedding captured by Sarah McKenzie Photography is the perfect blend of fun & lots of pretty. With handmade touches like the groomsmen boutonnieres which the bride made herself to napkin holders with lyrics from the couples first dance, there are so many gorgeous details to this wedding here!

From the Bride … Inspired by my Mexican culture, I wanted to create romance and elegance by incorporating lavish colors and rich textures. Spanish inspired with touches of contemporary chic. I wanted to embrace the setting but not minimize the details I envisioned. When searching destination resorts I desired a site on the beach but not in the sand. Once I came across the breathe taking architectural pillars at Grand Velas, I knew this is where my fairy tale must transpire.

I wanted to embellish the already gorgeous pillars with simple greenery garland enhanced by plush, vivid david austin roses and lisianthus. For the receptions I started with mint lace fabric I found on Etsy and ombre pink bridesmaids dresses. I met with three different local Houston linen providers looking for the right color and found it in a bold, rich raspberry linen. Which compliment my blushing mint runners to perfection. For the sweetheart table I chose a glitzy gold sequined linen softened by greenery garland. I adore the use calligraphy to give decor a unique embellishment. I had napkin wraps created with the lyrics to our first dance to give a sentimental touch to the table.

Floral is vital to capturing the essence of Spanish allure. To create this I choose vibrant yellow, orange and pink flowers paired with exotic succulents for my centerpiece. Finally staying true to the location, each place setting had it’s own personalized mini tequila bottle.

Romantic Destination Wedding in Puerto Vallarta

With their mutual love of the ocean and Puerto Vallarta, and the Bride’s innate high fashion style, this couple’s summer destination wedding was sure to be a home run. Add in The Dazzling Details and Plush Catering, and we have a Mexican escape that dreams are made of. Amanda Crean’s pics are guaranteed to inspire a heavy dose of wanderlust that I plan on fully indulging in. See it all right here!

From Amanda Crean Photography…. Chelsea and Blaine’s wedding represented their shared love of the ocean, the bride’s love for high-fashion and the rustic charm of Puerto Vallarta! Despite a hurricane that loomed out along the coast in the days leading up to the wedding, the sun shone brightly on their wedding day. To offset the heat of late May, guests arrived to the venue – an old-world-hacienda-style villa – and sipped fresh pineapple basil and watermelon mint fruit waters to keep cool.

The bride and groom married beneath a gazebo (and the gazebo beneath a tent in case of rain!) while guests sat in Lucite chairs accented with sparkly gold pillows. Beyonce’s Crazy in Love played as the bride and groom kissed and led their guests from ceremony to cocktail hour.

Guests were invited to the family-style dinner table, they found their place cards set in sea urchin shells at each seat. The table, dressed in rose-gold sequin linens, held driftwood and succulents intermingled with floral arrangements that perfectly fit the bride’s vision of beautiful yet artistic – a blend of tropical maraca blooms, classic tulips, succulents and amaranth. Following dinner, guests regrouped on the dance floor – first surrounding the couple with the romantic glow of sparklers as they twirled in for their first dance – and then breaking it down to popular dance tunes. A “junk bar” – complete with flavored popcorns, jelly bellies, fruit tarts, spicy potato chips and more! – satisfied appetites after hours of dancing!

From the Bride… Blaine and I met living in Santa Monica (Los Angeles) and after being friendly acquaintances for several years, I gave in and went on a date with him (after he deleted my from Facebook for the 3rd time). We knew instantly after our first real date that we were meant to be together and moved in with each other about a month later. His career moved us to the Bay Area, but since we both spent much of our lives living by the ocean (San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara), we knew our wedding had to be on a beach setting. I actually wanted to elope – I had dreaded the idea of having a wedding without my dad there for a decade – but it was really important to Blaine that we get married in a more traditional setting. We compromised and decided on having a very small destination wedding. We instantly knew that that location would be Puerto Vallarta. Having been there for a destination wedding a couple years back we fell in love with the ambience of old town, the relaxed atmosphere and the welcoming people.

Leading up to our wedding there was an unexpected hurricane that threatened to crush our vision and outdoor venue. It was a couple weeks of pure panic but the morning before our wedding the skies cleared and everything was good to go! Blaine pretty much left the decor up to me – his only requests were that the food was outstanding and the bar was open. Fashion and design have always been a big part of my life (I work as a fashion, beauty and lifestyle publicist), so I knew my wedding decor had to knock it out of the park to meet the expectations of our guests and my own. I wanted something romantic and ethereal but with a unique modern vibe. I also wanted to keep the colors soft and neutral to let the natural beauty of the setting shine. The Dazzling Details worked with me to get a clear vision of what I wanted with specific design elements but kept the details a surprise. We were both blown away with everything. It far surpassed our dreams.

Cultural Cancun Destination Wedding Part III

From the warm welcome to every fabulous festivity, Heather Waraksa has whisked us away to witness one culturally stunning fete. And now m’dears, it’s time to see the wedding that followed. A bright and festive bash graced with Planner 1 Events blooms, it’s the ultimate celebration. A dreamy day perfectly planned by AaB Creates, we’ve got the insider scoop on how to plan YOUR destination affair below!

From AaB CreatesFrom an event designer’s perspective, Linda and Sam’s wedding was a dream, because we got to play around with so many looks, all of which worked so well on the property at Nizuc. We were able to create really bright and festive Indian-inspired Mehndi party that fit with the lounge vibe of the location we had selected for the event. Then, literally just a few hours later, at the Rehearsal Dinner all of our decor was Mexican inspired. People often think super casual when they think “Mexican Inspired”, but the location, as well as our couple, were so chic, we wanted to make it feel fun and traditional, but also stylish.

We went with a colorful Otomi theme, which is a traditional design native to Mexico that is so graphic and fresh, it felt modern despite it’s timelessness. The next day we toggled between more traditional decor for the Sikh Anand Karaj (wedding ceremony) and luncheon and then got to have a fun, contemporary glam moment for the dinner and dance party later that night. From a planner’s prospective, we were really grateful that we take a team approach here, because while planning a weekend of events from afar isn’t unusual for us, we were incorporating a lot traditional Indian and Sikh elements while planning a wedding in Mexico from a home base of New York. Luckily we had great vendor partners in Cancun!

10 TIPS FOR A DESTINATION WEDDING

A destination “I do” offers a ton of possibilities for making lasting memories that extend well past the traditional 5 hour wedding reception, but let’s me honest – it can also mean a LOT of extra work. Here are some must-read tips from AaB Creates for planning (and enjoying) the entire destination wedding experience.

TIP #1: Hire A Coordinator

If your friends and family are flying in from around the globe, you don’t want to spend your whole weekend answering questions from vendors! Build into your budget having a coordinator.

TIP #2: Don’t Equate Vendor Response Time with How Good/Bad Your Wedding Will Be

This is particularly true if you are planning a wedding internationally- vendors just don’t have the same response times that you might expect back at home (especially if you live in a big, fast paced urban center). Your venue might take a day or two to respond to an email (maybe more), you might not get an immediate response from your DJ when you send a song list. This is often par for the course for planning a wedding abroad. This isn’t an indication of how things will go when your wedding weekend actually arrives, so you shouldn’t stress about it too much.

TIP #3: If You Bring in Vendors from Elsewhere, Remember you Need to Accommodate Them

If you love an amazing photographer or a florist or an event planner in your area where you live, or anywhere in the world, really, by all means hire them for your destination wedding, but remember you are also responsible for getting them to and from the destination and also housing them, so budget for it. It can be tempting to “save” in this area, but do so within reason, because remember your vendors still have a job to do and you want them to be in the best state of mind to do so. No one is expecting to fly first class or get a presidential suite, but it is important to clarify in writing before hand what travel and lodging requirements they do have.

TIP #4: A Wedding Website is a Must!

We love paper, we really truly do, but at a destination wedding, websites can be clutch for guests’ experience. You have no shortage of space and can update it easily, so you can fill people in on all sorts of details as you get them hammered out. So you can elaborate on dress code for each event and fill people in on all that there is to do in and around your destination. If you have a URL that’s easy to remember, your guests will always know where to look for info as they are shopping, packing and on site for all of your weekend events.

TIP #5: Arrive a few days before everyone else!

At a destination wedding, the couple hosting the weekend definitely sets the tone for the rest of the guests, so if you can get there a day or two before your guests are set to arrive, you will be chill, relaxed and in “party” mode. Your guests will immediately pick up on your vibe and be ready to get the party started!

TIP #6: Be sure to BRAND your weekend!

Even if you are going paperless with your destination wedding, working with a designer to come up with some “branding” for your weekend will make personalization of all your events a lot easier (and cheaper) in the long run! You have so many opportunities to infuse your personal style with so many events, having a cohesive graphic scheme will make tying them all together easier.

TIP #7: Avoid the Pressure to Over-host

If you are taking people away for a whole weekend, you will probably decide to host more than one event. Decide which events feel the best to you and also fit into your budget and stop revisiting it. It can be tempting once the RSVP’s start rolling in to feel “pressured” to add more hosted meals or activities, but it’s self-imposed pressure. Guests may choose to arrive earlier than you expected or stay days afterwards, but you shouldn’t feel that anyone expects you to host more events than what you indicate on the invitation.

TIP #8: Consider a Well Chosen Welcome Gift vs. a Welcome Bag

It’s super lovely to have something waiting for all of your guests when they arrive at your destination, but a snack laden tote bag isn’t necessarily the only answer. An awesome bottle of wine and a hand written note, or a keepsake present that might be local to your destination can send the message of “welcome, I’m happy you are here.” without the hassle of assembling bags or giving guests useless amenities.

TIP #9: Plan a Daytime Activity

One of the benefits of having a destination wedding is all the extra time that you get with your friends and family. Take advantage of it and make one of your events a day-time activity. Maybe it’s an excursion, or even just an organized afternoon of lounging and snacks by the pool, daytime fun adds an extra dimension to a wedding weekend.

TIP #10: Don’t be too Matchy-matchy

While you might love everything having a cohesive feel, having more than one event can be an opportunity to have 2 or 3 (or more!) different style parties! Have fun with the opportunity and don’t be afraid to make one event totally modern and fun and another more romantic, or have the night before be super casual and the next day be more formal. Diversity is the spice of life!
