A Colorful Tulum, Mexico Lovefest

The weekend is so close I can nearly taste it, and this wedding photographed by Kyle John has me ready to kick back with a cocktail and live like I’m on island time. Set in Tulum – a meaningful location for the couple – this beach affair is everything you want in a destination wedding with Vanessa Jaimes Floral Design brining loads of color, whimsy, and style into the mix. Head this way for even more and consider this a Happy Friday, indeed!

From the bride… Have you ever met someone for the first time and had déjà vu? Jeff and I think this isn’t the first time we have fallen in love, as if we end up finding each other again and again in each life. When we first found ourselves in the same room, neither one of us could take our eyes off of each other. From that moment on Jeff would whisk us away to last minute getaways, calling and telling me to be ready in an hour, never telling me of our destination. It was, and still is, the most romantic and exciting feeling to have someone who chooses to run away with you and only you over and over again. The first time he did this was to Mexico where we spent time in Tulum. Fast forward seven years later and true to form, Jeff surprised me with a last minute getaway to Keystone, Colorado where he got down on one knee and promised to stand by my side forever.

We thought we’d celebrate our commitment to each other at the first destination he ever whisked us away to, Mexico! We wasted no time; my mother, sisters, great aunt, cousin, and myself went to work right away to make my wedding dress from scratch. In my family, it’s tradition that my great aunt, Leila, make all the brides dresses. My only requests were that my dress had ostrich feathers (each put together by my mother, Lesa) at the bottom of the dress and pearls (hand strung by my cousin, Val) draping down my back. So we went to work, hand picking every piece of material from local fabric shops in Colorado as my aunt magically put it all together. Leila had sewn her own clothing tag into my dress with her name on it that my great grandmother had gifted her years before. This dress is special in so many ways, touched by the most important women in my life.

Jeff and I design and repurpose historic homes together sharing a deep passion for vintage style, which played a huge role in our wedding theme. We searched for beach wedding venues and ideas that could incorporate some non-traditional elements to the beach that fully encompassed our love for antiques and vintage décor. Enter owner and founder, Kristee Smith with Fresa Weddings. Every beach wedding photo we loved had one thing in common, they were all designed by Kristee and her team. We felt really lucky to have her as an expert to help coordinate florals, cake, venue, photography, food, hair and makeup, transport, décor and everything else under wedding planning from a distance. The hospitality and food at Akiin Beach venue was amazing, my guests are still raving about the food and staff! Kristee and her team, our photographer Kyle John, hair and makeup from BeSo Brides with Michael and Martina all worked together to create the vision we had and really brought everything to life. We really believe that no one else could have pulled off what we wanted like this group of people did, so we are forever grateful.

Being on a white, soft, sandy beach we were able to add fun details like a shoe valet at the beginning of the ceremony where everyone could ditch their shoes! Even as the bride, I didn’t wear shoes from the moment I got to the venue (talk about happy feet). Dinner and dancing were also on the beach, toes in the sand the entire time, market lights and a full moon. It was truly romantic from start to finish. We also had a cigar bar where someone was hand rolling cigars for guests right on the beach! It was great entertainment during cocktail hour while the wedding party and family were off taking pictures, our guests loved it. The altar and furniture were our favorite design pieces as we wanted something to define the space that would incorporate our vintage flair without taking away from our pretty backdrop of the ocean. Kristee and her florist Vanessa Jaimes designed exactly what we had envisioned! A half-circle garland with driftwood accents, greenery, and white anemones framed our ceremony with every flower more gorgeous than the next. All the furniture was a rich, dark wood, really popping from the white sand with plush, pastel furniture materials and natural brown leather undertones. It was a dream.

Jeff says his favorite part of the wedding was all the kissing we did during our photos on the beach (My poor mother was front and center for this as she helped hold props for the photographer, sorry Mom!). My favorite moment was seeing Jeff for the first time standing at the alter as the first man I ever loved held my hand and walked me down the aisle to him. Our advice for brides and grooms would be to create a wedding that is exactly what the two of you want and to stick to it. Enjoy every moment, it goes by so fast!

This Mexican Destination Wedding Is a Foodie’s Dream

As a self-proclaimed foodie, I’m seriously wishing I had been invited to this intimate celebration by Marweddings in Punta Mita, Mexico. Guests were greeted with a welcome basket containing local sweets when arriving at the oceanfront home, and that was just the beginning. On the day of the wedding, decadent appetizers were passed around during cocktail hour followed by a four course dinner, a decked out dessert table, and a late night treat – tacos and churros! Elizabeth Lloyd Photography captured the delicious day, and you can see it right here.

From MarweddingsTaylor and Daniel knew from the beginning of the planning process that they wanted an elegant wedding at a beautiful oceanfront home in the privacy of Punta Mita. They loved Casa Majani instantly, and the planning started while visiting this Villa. Food, drinks, and entertainment were a must for the couple, and they offered the best available in the area.

Upon arrival, guests had a beautiful welcome bag including a bottle of tequila, blown glass tequila shot glasses, salty snacks, a variety of Mexican local sweets, and a comfortable beach blanket in their rooms to enjoy their vacation. The wedding itinerary included welcome drinks with a bonfire at St. Regis and a rehearsal dinner at a Kupuri private beach cub. Men played golf while women enjoyed the variety of treatments at the spa.

On the wedding day, a quintet of strings welcomed guests with traditional instrumental, romantic Latin music. Guests were greeted with aperol spritz and margaritas. A Spanish duet of guitars invited people to take their seats for the intimate oceanfront wedding ceremony. Daniel’s tears and Taylor’s laugh during the ceremony were the sweetest moments of the night.

Going into the reception, a tequila and mezcal sommelier entertained guests during cocktail hour while waiters passed marinated octopus carpaccio tostadas with arugula and suckling pig tacos with smoked tomatoes and pork rind sauce. At twilight, guest sat at beautifully decorated tables with silk runners, black calla lilies, and black tulips – an uncommon combination for Mexico. Daniel gave the most romantic and respectful thank you speech to Taylor while bursting into tears.

Soft Mexican music was played during the dinner courses. The Bride and Groom offered an exquisite four course Mexican gourmet dinner with wines from Valle de Guadalupe and some exclusive Magnun wine bottles they brought from their own collection. Some of the most selected tequila brands were offered throughout the night including Don Julio 1942, Clase Azul plata, and José Cuervo Reserva de la familia. A romantic first dance was followed by everyone joining on the dance floor, and the sweet dessert table offered a personal recipe from the bride and the traditional tres leches from Mexico. Later in the night, guests enjoyed tacos and churros… after unbuttoning their shirt collars.

This Seaside Ceremony + Reception are #DestinationGoals

Kicking back with a tasty cocktail and playing beach volleyball sounds like the perfect way to spend a sunny morning and for Evan and Shiann, it also happened to be the kick-off to their crazy cool wedding day. Yep, this awesome couple soaked in some Vitamin D before walking down the aisle and it was as laid-back and beautiful as their entire celebration at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa. Soak in every moment captured by J.M. Hunter Photography here in THE VAULT.

Evan + Shiann opted out of the traditional hometown wedding and went for warm beaches and clear waters instead. With a relaxed morning of volleyball and cocktails, this wedding was everything a beach wedding should embody. With not much focus on the details and more focus on the two, it was a very emotional ceremony dedicating themselves to one another.

Like any other wedding there is always some form of speed bump along the way and weather, of course, was a big factor on their day. During the summer months Cancun and Tulum get hit with a lot of rain storms. This isn’t a few sprinkles here and there, but rather a downpour and high strong winds that can come and go in the blink of an eye. There was a very high concern from the day-of coordination about having the reception and dinner outside. However, Shiann and Evan were determined to have their reception the way they envisioned it and took the chance anyways. I am so glad they did because immediately following the ceremony came shots of tequila and and an intimate dinner with sand between their toes accompanied by an ocean breeze. It was beautiful.

The best flower girls ever? These sweet grandmas.

After seven awesome years at SMP, I’ve finally landed on my fave wedding moment of all time. Yep, this beautiful bride asked her sweet grandmothers to act as official flower girls and if you’re thinking that’s the cutest thing you’ve ever heard, you would be right. Add to that heartwarming moment the prettiest backdrop in all of Los Cabos (hello, Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa) and you’ve got yourself a destination winner. See it all captured by GVphotographer in THE VAULT.

From GVphotographerThis amazing beach wedding took place at Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa, located just a few steps away from the sparkling Sea of Cortez just between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Lacey and Jeremy had a beautiful ceremony officiated by the best Minister in Mexico (he was my wedding minister as well). Their wedding was unique with a special twist by having their grandmothers as flower girls, scattering rose petals along the bridal path. At the conclusion of the ceremony in what is probably the best known of all the rituals associated with Jewish weddings it is customary for the groom to break a glass to confirm the union. After a few cocktails, tequila and a lot of dancing they decided to continue the party at the swimming pool. This was a fun wedding with friends and family, everybody had an amazing time in this Cabo destination wedding.

From Canada to Cancun, This is a Perfect Destination Wedding

Consider this wedding photographed by Gideon Photography your virtual vacation to the beaches of Cancun. Think toes in the sand, sun in the sky, and love everywhere you look. Oh, and the pretty florals by VANESSA JAIMES Floral Design don’t hurt one bit either. More to see this way!

Clarianne and Brian had their amazing destination wedding on the beach in Cancun Mexico. Their ceremony on the sand with the azure blue Caribbean at their feet was breathtaking. Their reception feet away at the grand palapa at the Finest Playa Mujeres resort was absolutely stunning. Both Clarianne and Brian traveled from Canada with their families to Mexico for their destination wedding.

The decor by Archive Events was beautiful. Much of the sign elements and fans were made by the bride who is also a designer. This was a party to remember! The dancing was amazing with Clarianne and Brian having their first dance to their guests holding sparklers at dusk. Their photos along the beach were perfect, with the breeze cooling off the scorching Mexican sun.

This is How You Do Tropical Elegance in Los Cabos

I’ve got serious spring fever right now and this tropical goodness is just about sending me over the edge. Planned by Esoteric Events, it’s elegance done oh-so-right among palm trees and seaside sunsets that make the sand glow. Pretty dreamy right? And let’s not even get started on the gorg color palette. Just stroll on over to the The Vault for the beauty in full captured by Sally Pinera.

From Kristin Alexander at Esoteric EventsMonica and JC love to travel and after hearing about the newly built Cape Hotel they took a trip down there from Chicago to visit and fell in love. They wanted their wedding to feel like a Wes Anderson movie and they instantly knew The Cape was the perfect backdrop for it. The weekend kicked off with a daytime pool party followed by dinner and drinks in town. Guests were able to enjoy wonderful food, live music and walk the town together before the wedding the next day. Monica opted for a warm color palette reminiscent of a Cabo sunset with wood farm tables and chairs to work with the venue and the existing decor. With only their closest family and friends in attendance it was a tight nit group who knew how to party and danced the night away to The Cape’s resident DJ, DJ Capri.

This Beautiful Bride Underwent Surgery 5 Days Before Her Wedding

I’ve read many stories that have pulled on my heartstrings in my four years with Style Me Pretty and those sweet stories still get to me today. This Bride’s battle with an illness that threatened her flight to Cabo for her Big Day is no exception. And when you watch the film below from Elysium Productions, I think you’ll be dabbing the tears, too. When you’re done drying those eyes? Head to The Vault for more from Kellie Kano!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/160146662 600 338]

From the Bride… I was lying in a hospital bed, anxious and afraid, clutching tightly to my fiancé’s hand. Our wedding was in less than five days, but I was waiting for the neurologist to clear me for surgery. This hospitalization was the most recent in the saga of my illness. Months prior, I was diagnosed with bilateral vertebral artery dissections. The arteries in my neck that bring blood to my brain had torn and clotted. With blood clots inches from my brain, I was a walking time bomb and major stroke risk. The diagnosis saved my life. Throughout all of the appointments, shots and procedures, Will was always by my side. I am so lucky to have found the love of my life. Luckily, after surgery, I was cleared to fly. Will and I moved our flights to Cabo San Lucas back a day and made it to our wedding in time!

How We Met: Will and I grew up only blocks away from each other, but it took over two decades for our universes to collide. I’m so glad they did. Will and I met through a mutual friend on a starry, summer night. He drank scotch and told a couple of jokes (I seem to remember one in particular about a French fighter pilot) while we all laughed and reveled in the energy of the night. In the middle of a lighthearted game of Truth or Dare, my friend sensed a connection between Will and me, and dared us to kiss. All eyes were on us as I turned toward Will, wondering what he would do. Our eyes locked, and before I had time to think, Will kissed me. The energy was palpable and a lively romance began. The stars had aligned, and we were finally in the same place, at the same time.

Five and a half years later, we gathered with 50 of our closest friends and family members in picturesque Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to celebrate a love realized. We carried out the motif of destiny throughout the wedding, and our theme, “Stars Align & Hearts Combine,” reflected the idea of fate and the importance of the universe and love. Will and I worked with our invitation designer, Swell Press Paper, to create custom letterpress invitations that reflected our theme. I’m a copywriter, so I loved working on the wording for the invitations and building our website, willovescarson.com. Since Will is a mathematician, we even included an insert called, “Carson & Will by the Numbers,” that listed important dates in our relationship.

A year before the wedding, my parents surprised me with a trip to New York City to pick out my dress. I found my dream dress at L’Fay Bridal, and then it was made-to-measure by Flora Bridal in Israel. It was form-fitting with delicate lace details, and lightweight fabric that made it perfect for Cabo’s arid climate. By the end of the night, I changed into a shorter, light blue dress so I could dance to my heart’s content.

The entire wedding weekend was full of emotion because it was the first time in months I was able to have fun and be around so many family and friends, despite my illness. Before the ceremony, Will and I decided to do a first look. It was an incredibly emotional moment because we had worked so hard to get there and we were just so grateful to actually be in Cabo, at our wedding, getting married.

Our colors were shades of pastel pink, blue and lavender to compliment the blues of the Sea of Cortez and the green of the lawn overlooking the desert cliffs during the ceremony. I had blue flowers in my hair that matched the blue flowers in Will’s boutonniere. The officiant read a passage I wrote about the meaning of love, then Will and I exchanged our own handwritten vows before sealing it with a kiss!

During the reception, we had dozens of traditional Mexican star lanterns hanging over the dance floor to create a celestial vibe. We draped fabric inside the Cabo del Sol clubhouse and had lots of hanging flowers and tall centerpieces with my favorite flower—dahlias, to create a romantic ambiance. Our planner, Gaby Cobian of Vivid Occasions, and the florists at Cabo Floral Studios really made our cosmic vision come to life. I’m so glad we had Kellie Kano and Elysium Productions there to capture the entire wedding weekend.

Our first dance was definitely one of my favorite moments. Our song, “Alive,” by Empire of the Sun, is very fast-paced. Will and I didn’t practice at all, and ended up trying to do the box step to EDM. By the second verse, we dropped formalities and just danced. Then, once the chorus started, we invited everyone to come join us out on the dance floor. I remember looking around and seeing our closest family and friends all jumping, dancing, singing along, laughing and reveling in the thrill of the moment. Standing in the middle of all that energy was incredible; we were so overwhelmingly full of love and I’ve never felt anything like it before.

The father-daughter dance was also really emotional because we danced to a song my dad sang to me as a lullaby growing up, “After the Goldrush,” by Neil Young. After a delicious meal and listening to thoughtful toasts, everyone was back on the dance floor for the rest of the evening. For our exit, Will and I rode off in a golf cart and surprised everyone as ground fireworks went off, lighting the path as we drove away under the night sky. I have the happiest memories from my wedding weekend. I am so grateful to my parents for giving me my dream wedding, and so thankful to all of our guests who joined us in celebrating our eternal love. It was nothing short of magical. I will remember it forever.

This Pretty Celebration is What We Like to Call a Wedcation

Weddings that double as vacations are the best combo, don’t you think? Take for instance a beautiful getaway to Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa with beachside lounging and the most gorgeous, color-filled celebration. Yeah, that definitely falls into the Wedcation category. One look at the images from Tulle & Grace and you’ll be Mexico dreaming all the way.

From the Photographers… We were so honored to be a part of this beautiful wedding in Tulum, Mexico. Although my husband and I have been to Mexico before it was on this trip we fell in love with it. Macey & Matt showed us a different side to the Tulum we thought we knew with their adventurous spirit and love for travel and life. Every little detail of their day was thoughtful and matched the surrounds perfectly and Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa’s staff is extremely easy to work with and took care of everyone from the moment they stepped on the resort. Thanks to everyone who made this day so special and we can’t wait to get back to Tulum in June!

This Seaside Wedding Will Take Your Breath Away

There are seaside weddings in Tulum, and then there is this stunning day captured by Luma Weddings. Think soft colors, romantic lighting and beautiful florals all wrapped up in a breathtaking backdrop like the Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa. It’s basically everything you’ve ever wanted your wedding to be WITH a big ol’ side of sunshine. See so much more in THE VAULT.

Ava and Patryk’s story is a long one, but one thing they were both absolutely positive on was their love of the beach. Their relationship began in Vancouver, British Columbia, and after a few years of dating, they became engaged from a gorgeous proposal on the beach in Thailand. It was only fitting that they planned their wedding at the gorgeous Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa in Tulum, Mexico. Every little detail was fitting. It was when they booked the venue that they knew they wanted to have only their closest friends and family attend, and that is exactly what they had accomplished.

While many details from the wedding day were thought of and prepped in Vancouver, another large portion were also handled directly in Tulum with the help of the coordination from Dreams Resorts. Hiring Kyle Goldie from Luma Weddings for the destination wedding photography was hugely important in order to capture the day’s festivities, details, and emotions thoroughly. He came all the way from Seattle!

Planning a destination wedding in Tulum had its hurdles and obstacles – especially when it came to trying to figure out group rates, resort credits, and getting everything to the site safely – but when it was all set up and the day started to flow, it was all worth it. The wedding day itself began with a hearty breakfast, some mimosas, and hair and makeup provided directly by the resort itself. The spa was incredibly comfortable and charming. Everybody was incredibly helpful.

While hair and makeup was being completed, Kyle Goldie at Luma Weddings was capturing detail photographs and the groomsmen were helping prepare for the day. The planning and preparation were all coming together. The wedding day details were clean, romantic, simplistic, pastel, and earthy. Nothing was overdone, yet no detail was overlooked. The goal was to keep things natural, beautiful, and airy. Everything was meant to pair well with the tropical atmosphere that Dreams Tulum had to offer. By being surrounded with palm trees and a gorgeous ocean backdrop, all that was left was to create some gorgeous photographs and time everything to the sunset.

Ava and Patryk said “I do” with their feet in the sand, followed by an intimate reception poolside along the beach. Their weather could not have been more perfect.

Well, we’ve got you covered, because today we’re joining forces with Jennie Kay for a quick run-down on all things beauty with tips + tricks on achieving that glam wedding day look, no matter the gown or style you’re dreaming of. Let’s get started.

LOOK 1: CASUAL GLAMOUR

Your style? Laid-back with a big ol’ side of sophistication. Which means rocking a stunning gown that shows some skin and hair + make-up that is just as sleek and glamorous. Jennie Kay suggests pairing your dream dress with a rope braid pony or soft low bun that is dressy enough for a wedding, but is also completely effortless.

[dotted]

LOOK 2: VINTAGE ELEGANCE

You’re a vintage-inspired lady looking to rock that elegant lace number, but still maintain a modern, yet sexy edge. Jennie Kay’s tip? A bright red lip for that much-needed side of sophistication and a stunning updo that frames one side of the face, plus sweeps across the back in a beautiful style that is reminiscent of the past.

[dotted]

“Look at the way you wore your hair at your initial dress fitting. It usually mimics your initial idea on how your hair should be.” – Jennie Kay Beauty

LOOK 3: BOHO BEAUTY

Crave a look that is soft, romantic and free, just like you and your wedding? Then this fab boho look from Jennie Kay Beauty is sooo for you. Simply keep your hair natural in wave and texture and add three gorgeous braids for a little pop of WOW.  Want to add a little glamour to the look? Really make those eyes stand out with just the right shade of shadow and mascara.

LOOK 4: SWEETLY CLASSIC

For those of you who want to keep it sweet + classic on the Big Day, Jennie Kay suggests a low twisted ponytail that is equal parts show-stopping and wholesome. Pair it with subtle makeup (like a light pink lip) and a gown that has just a pop of sass and the results are absolutely timeless.

LOOK 5: TOUSLED SOPHISTICATION

Waves are a girl’s best friend and when it comes to a wedding day look that is equal parts laid-back and sophisticated, Jennie Kay keeps those tousled waves down with just a few sweet strands pulled back for a look that is all sorts of romantic. Add some soft pink lips and some barely-there makeup to complete the look.

Style Meets Sand for this Destination Wedding in Tulum

I’ve always been a fan of beachy destination weddings but just can’t let go of my love for elegance, and let’s be honest, many times style and sand just don’t mix. However, this Mexican wedding begs to differ. With Destination Weddings Tulum orchestrating and Sean Cook capturing all the chic beach beauty, it’s the perfect mix for my books. See it all in our Vault right this way!

From the Bride… After our first visit to Tulum, we instantly fell in love with the calming energy, delicious food, hospitable locals, and all the natural beauty that makes this Caribbean paradise so unique.

When we began thinking about our wedding, we knew we wanted to incorporate travel and adventure, as these had become a foundation of our relationship. We also knew we wanted something small and intimate, and a place all our closest friends and family would love. Tulum checked all the boxes and helped in making our decision an easy one. The idea of saying our vows surrounded by the white sands and turquoise waters, and then dancing the night away under the Caribbean stars with plentiful mezcal and guacamole sounded like an absolute fairytale to us. So that is what we decided to do!

After lots of research, we found a perfect private property right on the beach, and directly next to one of our favorite hotels, Sanara. The property accommodated exactly the size wedding we were looking for, and provided the perfect intimate setting.

Thinking back on our wedding weekend feels like a dream. As you get older and busier, it seems to be more and more difficult to get large groups together in one place, let alone together on a tropical vacation! We feel like the luckiest couple in the world to have shared this experience with our nearest and dearest. It was everything we imagined and so much more, truly a dream come true.

On the wedding day, my bridesmaids and I met at Sanara for some delicious breakfast smoothies, and then began getting ready in one of the stunning rooms. I love all the natural light, architectural elements, the rustic chic decor, and the beautiful back patio with the claw foot tub. I knew it would be the perfect place to spend the first half of the day getting ready. The boys had lunch at La Zebra right down the beach, and got ready together in one of the homes on the venue property. It was really fun knowing they were right next door, enjoying a relaxing day together just like us.

We decided we wanted to do a “first look” before the ceremony. After months of anticipation, I’ll never forgot seeing each other for the first time. I was so nervous, but as soon as we turned around and saw each other, the nerves melted away.

After the first look, we shot several photos around Sanara and then at Coqui Coqui.

Before the ceremony began, the entire wedding party got together and toasted with a glass of champagne. I imagined I would be so nervous in the final moments preparing to take that walk down the aisle – the walk you dream about your whole life – but standing there with both my parents by my side, with our dearest friends and family together in one of our favorite places on earth, all I felt was pure happiness and excitement.

For the ceremony decor, we wanted to keep things simple and highlight the backdrop of the beautiful turquoise water. We did a palm arch, wood benches, baskets draped with flowers along the aisle, and our favorite part – a table filled with coco frios for our guests to enjoy before the ceremony began.

With such an intimate wedding, it was important to us to incorporate as many close friends as we could. One of our good friends, Shannon, is an amazing DJ, so we ask if he would do our music (BEST wedding DJ ever!) His flawless taste in music made for the most amazing dance party I’ve ever been a part of, and we are eternally grateful! We also decided to have one of our best friends, Chad, officiate the ceremony – and are so happy we did. It really made our ceremony feel so special.

Our photographer, Sean Cook, we did not know before our wedding weekend. However, it became clear immediately that he was going to become our dear friend! Looking back, I can’t imagine having anyone else document our day. He is such a kind, funny, and talented soul. He really was so instrumental in not only shooting photos all weekend long, but helping out with any and everything along the way, and being there to guide us through the day and calm our nerves. He was truly spectacular and we are so thankful for him!

Our wedding coordinator, Barbara from Destination Weddings Tulum, was so wonderful. We told her exactly what we wanted and she made everything happen! Having her and the whole team from Destination Weddings Tulum around for our wedding weekend was extremely comforting and we are so very grateful to them for making our day perfect in every way.

We had cocktail hour around the pool and up on the rooftop deck, which had 360 degree views overlooking the jungle, pool and the ocean. We brought a Fuji Instax camera and set up a guest book table, which turned out to be so fun, and looking back through those photos provides endless memories. We chose local beers and wine, and had three flavors of margaritas available: regular, strawberry basil and pineapple jalapeno. And I’m still dreaming about those pineapple jalapeno margaritas!

The dinner and dancing was held in the open palmed area on the property’s grounds straight off of the beach. We wanted to keep the feel as fun and laid back as possible, big long wood tables with family style “Mexican BBQ” for dinner. Out of all the amazing food we’ve eaten in Tulum, this truly was one of the best meals we’ve ever had! Everything was so fresh and delicious. And so much food! We had tons of leftovers we were able to munch on for the rest of the week.

For dessert, we went with an elegant “naked” style three tiered cake and buckets of our favorite local paletas from Flor de Michoacan. The cold popsicles were the perfect cool treat after lots of dancing. Late night food came out around 10pm, delicious mini sopes and empanadas, so good!

Our amazing photographers set up a Photo Booth right off the dance floor, which turned out to be some of our favorite photos from the night! Apparently margaritas and photo booths go quite well together, and looking back at how much fun everyone was having in those photos is one of our greatest memories.

The decor was inspired by the rustic colonial chic design of Coqui Coqui. Wood tables, brass candle sticks, palm fronds, and white and green florals. We wanted an effortlessly elegant feel, nothing too over done.

Our vision was for there to be as many twinkling lights as we could manage, so we strung bistro lights throughout the palm trees above, hung lighted wicker lanterns, ran candles down the full length of the tables, and placed luminaries all around the property. We also hung white hammocks around the property and created a “lounge” area down on the beach so guests could get extra comfortable.

I spent a long time searching for the perfect dress without much luck. But as soon as I tried on this Inbal Dror, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It wasn’t what I initially imagined, but the beautiful lace, open back, and elegant train convinced me otherwise. And I love the way it turned out, perfectly complementing the location and decor. Joe went with a classic dark blue suit from Suit Supply. For the wedding party, we wanted to keep things classic as well, so we went with darker navy suits for the groomsmen and a mix of white lace dresses for the bridesmaid. After our first dance, I changed in to a different dress from Stone Cold Fox. The lightweight silk and breezy slits made dancing the night away so much fun.

Classic Meets Destination in This Stunning Mexico Wedding

Opting for an intimate celebration in Mexico to celebrate their “I do’s,” these two sweeties grabbed 30 of their closest friends and family and headed to Secrets Akumal in the Riviera Maya to party the weekend away in classic meets glam fashion.  From the luxe gold, black and white color palette to the bride’s gorgeous Eve of Milady gown, this is a day that is as pretty as it was fun. See every stunning moment captured by Shannon Skloss in THE VAULT.

From the Bride…When Kenneth and I first met, I never would have imagined in just a few short years we would be getting married in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The two of us met while out with friends one night and I will never forget the look in his eyes when he first walked up to talk to me.

Fast forward two years later. Kenneth and I are spending an afternoon in Dallas watching college football. As we are headed home, he makes what I thought was a wrong turn and pulls up to the valet of the hotel at Reunion Tower. We head up to our room where I find an overnight bag and a cocktail dress hanging in the closet. Kenneth had arranged for all of our things to be packed and dropped off by my sweet mother. He proposed that night with a gorgeous 3 stone emerald cut ring he had designed to look like my mom’s.

When we began the wedding planning process Kenneth suggested having a destination wedding so all our family and friends could vacation together and celebrate our big day. We decided Mexico would be the perfect place for our wedding after having such a fun time vacationing there a few summers before.

Our wedding day was perfect. We woke up and had breakfast together with our family and friends then spent some time on the beach before we started to get ready. The thirty guests who joined us were given black and white totes, beach hats, and cigars with personalized match boxes to use while they enjoyed their vacation. My closest girlfriends also received robes to wear while helping me get ready.

We decided on natural colors for our wedding and let the beautiful Mexico scenery be our backdrop. Secrets Akumal was the most amazing venue. We used white and gold and some acrylic and black accents for our décor. The tall white rose floral arrangements couldn’t have been more beautiful at the end of the aisle during our ceremony and on the long white tables for our reception. We personalized our event with monogrammed linen napkins and custom fans during the ceremony to keep our guests cool. The most memorable part of our wedding was walking down the aisle with my dad by my side and seeing my future husband standing there with tears rolling down his face. It was the same sweet eyes I saw when we first met, and I couldn’t believe I was now getting to marry this man and spend forever with him. I am beyond grateful we brought our photographer from Dallas to capture such special moments. We had so much fun dancing the night away. The chandeliers and lounge seating around the dance floor were the perfect touch to providing a beautiful and fun night. Marrying in Mexico was the best decision we could have made.

Yucatan, Mexico Wedding With Loads of Old-World Charm

With guests attending from all across the world – Italy, U.S., South America and the North of Mexico – Lizbeth and Massimiliano knew a destination wedding in Merida made perfect sense. They wanted a feeling of old-world charm and the Hacienda San Diego Cutz did just the trick. Elizabeth Medina Photographic Artisans captured the day and you can see it all inside The Vault.

From The Bride…I’m from Baja, California and Massimiliano (Max) is from Italy, luckily he decided to study his PhD in San Diego, where we met in 2007. From the start it was an instant spark and a mutual feeling of being at home in each other’s presence. I now believe that when two souls find each other again, the imprinted memories simply come back.

We dated for a while, with our ups and downs, but with no less love. Max did not believe in marriage, or thus he said so. So when during one of our holidays in Italy he went down on one knee, pulled a beautiful sparkler out of his pocket and proposed, I was startled and speechless! Wedding preparations immediately followed.

We both agreed our wedding was a “once in a lifetime celebration” and we wanted to make ours an affair to remember. We were looking for a destination wedding, since guests would be coming from Italy, U.S., South America and the North of Mexico. We wanted something classical with old world charm. After considering several cities and visiting different venues, we were both enchanted the minute we stepped into the mesmerizing Hacienda San Diego Cutz in beautiful Merida! We immediately knew we had found the perfect place!

Our wedding had a piece of both of us in all the details we selected. Music for me is what makes the world go round, for him it’s food! So as much enthusiasm as I dedicated in selecting each song, he equally meticulously selected each edible item from the initial appetizers to the final after coffee. We had a wonderful wedding planner who made a huge production seem effortless. It was a fantastic night, filled with fireworks, a full orchestra, endless food, decadent desserts but most importantly it was filled with family, friends and love!

From Elizabeth Medina Photographic ArtisansLizbeth and Massimiliano are a well traveled couple. With the groom hailing from Italy and the bride from Northern Mexico, they have made their home on the West Coast of the US. It seems clear to me that this cosmopolitan couple could have been married just about anywhere. Having shared the wedding day with this lovely couple and the large group of family and friends who travelled to Yucatan for the wedding I feel qualified to say that they made the PERFECT choice! Seeing the surprised excitement of the wedding guests as they discovered the wedding locations was a great reminder- Yucatan packs a destination wedding punch that is all its own.

Rustic Boho Chic Farm Wedding in Mexico

If Kate Moss and the Country of Mexico collaborated, we think it would equate to this incredibly CHIC wedding. Don’t believe us? Just take one glance at the gallery from Anne Blodgett Photography and we have a feeling you’ll be hard-pressed to argue otherwise. Because tucked away in the beautiful mango groves of Flora Farms, TJ + Cristina’s planned the ultimate intimate wedding and we’ve got it all right here.

From Anne Blodgett PhotographyTJ + Cristina’s intimate wedding was tucked away in the beautiful mango groves of Flora Farms in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico (although their first look was at the hip and trendy Hotel el Gonzo a few minutes away). The bride’s effortless lace dress from Spell Designs in Australia fit the laid back vibe (the bride was inspired by a boho theme), and Amy Abbott Events executed the ceremony and reception perfectly with modern, yet farm-to-table flair. The bride crafted several decor items herself, including the table numbers and seating chart. She was particularly excited about the Mexican tile favors she found for each of her guests to take home.

From Mariel HannahI had the pleasure of photographing Daane and Marisa’s wedding in Tulum this past February. For die hard Twilight Fans, some may be familiar with Marisa Quinn as she is an actress and played a vampire role in the blockbuster films. They dreamt of a wedding celebration full of meaning with their closest family & friends, so they got just that.

From the Bride…MAGIC.

Pure. Absolute. Otherworldly…MAGIC.

Nothing else can describe the beauty of that day. Without a doubt, it was the most extraordinary day of our lives.

After having experienced the mystical power of the Mayan Riviera before, we knew we wanted to be married in a sacred space, and make it an all day affair. For the Mayans, cenotes were revered as one of the three entryways to the land of the Gods. For centuries, sacred rituals have taken place at the mouth of these waters – and on February 26th, 2016 – our very own sacred ritual was performed…and the magic alive the air was palpable.

A traditional Mayan musician graced us with ancient sounds played on hand-carved instruments…the mystical sound of the flute floated through the air as I walked down the aisle. A rehearsal had not been possible due to the sacredness of the site, so as I began to walk down the “aisle” – I realized for the first time that my 3 inch wedges weren’t gonna allow me to make it down in one piece. So after a few steps down the path, I stopped my dad, kicked of my shoes with a laugh, and proceeded down toward my groom with bare feet and my dress gently draping along the earth.

Time stood still, and I didn’t care about anything that wasn’t truly real. About two minutes into the ceremony, I tossed off my veil as well because I didn’t want anything obstructing my view of some of the most precious moments of my life. And the best part? It wasn’t even weird that I did that! It all just felt like it was exactly what was supposed to happen.

As the Shaman continued the ceremony, even the fish and the birds felt compelled to join in the moment. The fish gathered near his feet, the birds flew in resting on nearby branches… even a kitten found his way into the ceremony circle! As soon as I saw him approach and take a seat at the top of the cave, I whispered to Daane “mira! el gatito!!” (“look! a little cat!). I’m a total cat lady, so of course I was over the moon to have this particular unexpected guest join us!

Overall – it was simply magical. As our contribution to the otherwise traditional Mayan ceremony, Daane and I exchanged our own vows, pouring our hearts out to one another and promising to give the best of ourselves from that moment on.

Of course…in the real world, fairytale moments don’t come without their fair share of real-world hiccups. We had PLENTY go wrong that picture-perfect day. From the bride & groom being forgotten and left at the house while the entire wedding party was being shuttled to the ceremony, to being stranded AGAIN at the close of the ceremony when the keys to our car were accidentally taken and our wedding party was already 45 min away…to an unexpected rope swing obstructing our ceremony space and the Zika virus threatening to keep all our guests at home…we had MANY hurdles to overcome to get to our happily ever after. But when you’re riding high on love and the mystical powers of Tulum – ain’t nothin’ gonna ruin your day! With the help of our family and friends we sailed through every unexpected twist and turn with a laugh and a smile, and fell asleep that night to the sound of the waves crashing, asking ourselves how we ever got so lucky to live such a perfectly imperfect truly magical day.

From the Bride… I wanted our day to be elegant and beautiful. At the same time, I wanted it to be FUN since everyone was making a special trip for us to Mexico! We wanted a destination wedding and once we decided on Cabo, we knew we wanted to incorporate Mexican elements into the day. Hacienda Cocina y Cantina was the perfect venue for this! We loved the idea of having our ceremony & cocktail hour on the beach, dinner in an indoor/outdoor space and dancing in the palapa along the Sea of Cortez.

Each bridesmaid wore a different style dress in a different shade of pink for an ombre effect. The escort cards were attached to maracas and were in pink ombre as well. The groomsmen’s bow ties had fish & hooks on them, which I thought was a fun, subtle element. My dress was a faint blush, which I loved! The beautiful florals were also different shades of pink and made for a very colorful and elegant setting.

For the day of the wedding, all of the bridesmaids, house party, flower girls, mother of the bride and I got ready in Mexican Mumu dresses. Jarrett and I loved our entrance into dinner, our intro song was an instrumental version of Jay Z’s “Big Pimpin'” and everyone shook their maracas so loud for the entrance. It was a surreal & awesome moment. We also loved dancing to Indian music with my Indian family members.

One of my most special details is the picture of my dad I had pinned to the inside of my bouquet, just like my sister did at her wedding. He passed away 10 years ago and it was nice to have my dad with me while my mom walked me down the aisle. Our first dance was “In My Life” by the Beatles. We both grew up listening to the Beatles with our parents and wanted a classic song.

We Dare You Not to Fall in Love with This Colorful Cabo Wedding

This gorgeous bride begins her and her hubby’s love story with “We believe in love at first sight.” After seeing her Cabo wedding, so do we. It all started with the bouquet. From there, sweet details — from maracas to a very cute donkey to fab fashions (including Plum Pretty Sugar robes and a Jenny Yoo wedding dress) — made us fall harder. And the gorgeous reception with rentals from Del Cabo Event Design sealed the deal. Feel the love, thanks to photos from Sara Richardson Photography, in The Vault!

From The Bride… We believe in love at first sight. Sometimes you just have to look at each other for a long time. It all started New Year’s Eve 2010 when I arrived back home in Los Angeles after a holiday getaway in Mexico. Upon arriving home my sister introduced me to a handsome lumber sexual named Matt who quickly got on my last nerve while rushing me to get ready for the night. After a few cocktails and a lot of laughs my dislike for Matt quickly subsided and the night ended with our first kiss on 1/1/11.

A great friendship was born that fateful New Year’s Day but it would be a few years before Matt and I would start our forever. In the spring of 2013, at my best friend’s birthday party at Goal Sports Bar, Matt and I realized we liked each other a lot, like we were falling in love (awe, we’re so cute! Kidding not really kidding!!). Two years later at the very same spot, on April 28th, 2015, I said “YES!” when Matt proposed at Goal on Taco Tuesday (duh!) and we set out on our greatest adventure.

From the very beginning we new we wanted a destination wedding so that we could enjoy a long weekend with our closest family and friends away from life’s daily distractions. Enjoying quality time, having fun and making memories with loved ones was our main goal heading into the planning of our big day. So when I looked into a recommendation I received from my aunt for the Cabo Surf Hotel in San Jose del Cabo, MX, I immediately new without a doubt I had found the perfect location for our intimate wedding weekend. We really wanted a beach front wedding and with my awesome dad being wheelchair bound we had very specific needs. The layout of the hotel with the beautiful ocean front garden for the ceremony was absolutely perfect! I grabbed my computer with somewhere close to 25 tabs open, all of the Cabo Surf Hotel, showed Matt and we instantaneously said I do to our wedding venue and now our new favorite place!!

Cabo Surf is amazing and I can’t say enough about their wonderful staff and the exceptional level of service they provided. The property is absolutely beautiful too, with 36 luxury beach chic guest rooms, a delicious restaurant, fabulous spa, great amenities and stunning views of the Sea of Cortez. The hotel’s intimate setting really made for an amazing wedding weekend both for us as well as our entire wedding party and all of our guests. We were so comfortable and relaxed and so well taken care of that we had nothing to do but enjoy ourselves. It was everything – the place, the people, the love – just everything! It was truly the best weekend of our entire lives!!

Martha Lomeli is the hotel’s fabulous wedding coordinator and a patient saint. We planned our wedding in a fast and furious 4 months and Martha did a phenomenal job. Martha was instrumental in pulling off not one but two sensational parties. We really wanted all of the people we love, who traveled to Mexico for our wedding, to get to know each other before our big day so we decided to throw a welcome bonfire beach party for all of our guests on the first night and it was the perfect way to kick off such a tremendous and unforgettable wedding weekend. When you are doing a destination wedding in a foreign country, it is absolutely crucial to find someone who can make great recommendations for local vendors. Martha expertly guided us through making all the decisions for our big day. She recommended and helped us select our wedding dream team including our photographer, florist, DJ, and so much more. Martha helped us with everything from selecting my hair and make-up artist and our wedding menu to setting up yoga for the whole party, tying “gracias” tags on our guests’ gifts and booking the showstopper – Lolo the donkey. She was an absolute pleasure to work with – Martha is amazing!

Having beautiful photos of what we knew was going to be the best day of our entire lives was of the utmost importance to us. While literally looking at every Los Cabos wedding featured online, Matt and I were continuously drawn to photographer, Sara Richardson’s beautiful natural photos and knew immediately that we had to have her capture all the special moments on our big day. From the beginning Sara helped us above and beyond a photographers normal role and worked with us to craft our wedding day schedule and provide a seamless flow throughout the evening so we could celebrate and still get all the photos we wanted. Based on Matt and my desires to be able to enjoy as much time with our loved ones at the wedding as possible, Sara suggested a ‘first look’ photo shoot prior to the ceremony. At first it seemed weird to go against tradition but then again Matt and I wanted our day to be totally “us” and we loved the idea of a special moment prior to the ceremony to help put us in a relaxed and loved up mood before heading down the isle. Plus let’s be real we really wanted to join our guests for the second half of cocktail hour. The first look turned out to be one of our favorite moments, it was so special. The pictures are incredible. We can’t thank Sarah and her husband Ramon enough! They captured every single moment of our special day and the photos are perfect, absolutely gorgeous!!

The wedding day itself was unbelievable – absolute perfection! In keeping with the theme of our big day being all about us, we decided to ask Matt’s gregarious cousin to officiate our ceremony. Jeff was a huge hit and set the tone for what would be the most fun, meaningful and memorable day of our entire lives. The flowers designed by Pina Hernandez were beyond perfect. The effortless natural flow of Pina’s arrangements in addition to the vibrant pops of color and fresh greens looked absolutely stunning against the natural beauty of Los Cabos. Our wonderful friend Helen Fukkari, owner of Pocket Full of Sunshine Styling, is a phenomenally talented artist and designer. Helen did such a magnificent job with all of the paper goods and signage for our wedding as well as advising us on how to tie together all of our wants into a picture perfect wedding motif that was distinctly us. She was crucial to our sanity during the whole process and put up with my excruciating overanalyzes of every little detail. Helen held my hand and expertly helped me add all the special touches like the piñata guest book, photo table, our special little stars and more to help fulfill our vision. In additional to her beautiful designs, Helen jumped in on our weeding day and made sure every detail was perfectly executed by all of our vendors. As with any wedding day, there a few minor surprises and Helen was masterful in keeping Matt and I calm and focused on what the day was all about, as Matt says, “Helen was like Chuck Noll on Superbowl Sunday and she had her game face on!”

The delicious food and impeccable service at the 7 Seas Restaurant was unparalleled. The white lights covering the palapa roof and the special star lanterns added a warm glow to the breathtaking scene. The speeches made by my bridesmaids, my sister Sarah and my childhood bestie Jenna, as well as Matt’s best man, his best friend Julien – were all outstanding. Each speech was personal, poignant and hilarious – simply stellar. Our nieces and nephews at the children’s table were thoroughly entertained by the special art sets put together by my sister in-law Marina in honor of our precious angels as well as the Lulu & Leo Fund and ChooseCreativity.org. Our wedding cake, a two tiered lemon cake with fresh blueberries and a cream cheese frosting, was delectable and we loved our cake topper designed by Wedding Go Paper Co because it was so us and included our dog – our precious little love, Bentley.

One of the highlights of our wedding was the dance party. DJ Teeven provided the perfect soundtrack for the most important day of our lives. Music is very important to both of us and we really struggled with it. The music was fantastic from start to finish and Edwin really listened to us when we communicated our likes and dislikes and was able to deliver a non-traditional music format that was unique to us. There was not a single song played at our reception that didn’t have people on the dance floor dancing like no one was watching. Our reception was an absolute blast and DJ Teeven deserves a huge thank you for getting everyone in the spirit for celebrating (The bartenders didn’t hurt the cause either!).

In the end all of our guests had one of the best nights ever. We laughed, we danced and we celebrated love. The only time the party stopped was when baby turtles began to hatch (totally out of season!) on the sand and made their way to the sea. The baby turtles were a profound symbol of life, love and new beginnings. Our wedding was in fact the best day of our lives and will forever be one of our favorite memories. BEST DAY EVER!!

Saturday Morning Movie: Traditional Mexican Hacienda Wedding

Happy Saturday morning! No need to attack that to-do list just yet; it’s the weekend and you deserve a break (am I right or am I right!?). So pour a second cup of coffee and settle in for some good vibes with this wedding clip courtesy of Light Cannon Films. It has transatlantic love, a gorgeous gown and a sweet, emotional Mother of the Groom – what more could you ask for?

From Light Cannon Films… When Ana called us over a year before her wedding and asked us to be a part of her big day in Mexico City, it seemed like a dream. But it didn’t get any more real as the day approached; and the actual wedding was the most surreal part. Not only did we have the thrill of seeing another culture’s celebration of love, we got a glimpse into the lives of two people who we will never forget.

Ana and Evan met in Paris while both studying abroad, but it wasn’t until their tour was almost over that they realized they didn’t want to be apart. So, Evan vowed to buy a ticket to visit Ana in Mexico City, a promise Ana didn’t yet understand the depth of. Evan held true to his word and immersed himself in Ana’s world, even learning Spanish and working for her father. When they faced obstacles that came from an international relationship, they overcame them. When they could have easily decided it would be simpler to part ways and live their separate lives, they held fast to each other and came out stronger.

It’s no wonder that their wedding day was the most epic beginning to the Perrys’ forever. From a riverboat rainstorm to a traditional church in the heart of Mexico City, to a breathtaking vintage hacienda for a reception that lasted all night, their rehearsal and wedding was a non-stop celebration of two becoming one.
