Relaxed Elegance At This Chic and Colorful Mexico Wedding

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]

Red, Pink, Blue, Cream, and Black were united in this fashionable destination wedding. The reception was an elegant, relaxed, and fun affair where these colors cohabitated to create a truly unique look.

[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The reception was held in the signature restaurant “Alebrije,” overlooking the pool and sunset, which made it truly magical. Table settings were combined between round tables with linens and rectangle ones that showed the beautiful wood, contrasting perfectly with black chairs to give it more edge. Red and pink florals were complementing the classical Mexican decor at the table. From artisanal plates and glassware to hand-made candelabras, it was a truly Mexican-style table. To make the design stand out and break the typical wedding style, it was decided that the color black had to be added to balance out the color palette, making it a unique combination.[/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

From the bride… Carly and Austin met in April of 2016 at Coachella Music Festival, they were introduced by mutual friends, together ever since and the rest is history. Six years almost exactly to the date, the two were married in San Jose Del Cabo at the breathtaking Las Ventanas al Paraiso. Los Cabos is not only a beautiful destination, but it is also a home away from home for the couple who have enjoyed countless times in Mexico with family and friends, enjoying all the beauty and culture Baja has to offer – surfing – art – food – libations – architecture – music, etc. Carly and Austin reside in Southern California living there happily ever after.

For the wedding, Carly wore a classic silhouette by Alex Perry that looked absolutely perfect on her. Paired with pearl-beaded Jimmy Choo shoes and a red all-ranunculus bouquet with a black ribbon, the whole ensemble was one-of-a-kind.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]It was important for the guests to experience Mexican fine dining at its best, so we selected a 4-course dinner from “Alebrije,” which included a catch of the day tiradito, locally sourced salads and vegetables, the traditional Baja seabass, and roasted cauliflower with pippin sauce.
[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]It was a truly Mexican-style table. To make the design stand out and break the typical wedding vibe, we decided to add black to balance the color palette, making it a unique combination. For the floral design, we played around with a gorgeous palette of reds and pinks for the ceremony and reception. These hues and the natural clay vases gave a beautiful balance to the tables.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Las Ventanas Al Paraíso’s pastry chef prepared a traditional vanilla cake adorned with amazing florals for that special moment.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]

Carly and Austin always knew that the most special place for them to have the ceremony was the famous “Plaza” in Las Ventanas Al Paraíso. The iconic tree became the perfect backdrop when it was covered in pink bougainvilleas that contrasted beautifully with the ocean. Carly walked down the aisle to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. The whole space was covered with baskets and clay pots of different flowers that made the “I do’s” even more romantic. Carly and Austin finished the whole thing by walking to “Bittersweet Symphony” by The Verve.

Here’s Proof That a Beach Wedding Can Be Utterly Elegant and Timeless

Beach weddings will always hold a special place in our hearts. Today’s wedding is proof that a sandy-toe wedding is truly the perfect fit for any style, whether you’re more of a classic bride or boho is more your thing. Grit & Gold made this couple’s dream Cabo destination wedding a reality, leaving no detail unturned. Just 53 of their closest family and friends watched as the couple exchanged “I do’s” under a blooming floral arbor by Lola del Campo and danced the night away under a canopy of magical strings lights. Head on over to the full gallery to see it all unfold – taken by Luna de Mare Photography!

From Luna de Mare Photography… Cabo San Lucas was a destination the couple loved and visited, so naturally they fell in love with the idea of having a Destination Wedding with their closest Family and Friends for a weekend filled with poolside lounging, bonfires, large family style tables with dining on seafood and the ocean breeze coaxing them into the soft lull of relaxation.

Hailing from Texas, with just a small count of 53 of their nearest and dearest from around the world, they set on planning their intimate Wedding with Lottie of Grit & Gold Events (also a fellow Texan). The Ceremony was held just before sunset, under an arbor of lush florals on the beach with horseback riders occasionally riding by, and crashing waves from the Cortez Sea & Pacific Ocean combined.

After their I do’s, they were all led up to the al fresco Reception by a line of Mariachis strumming to local tunes. A full Fiesta with stations of freshly prepared food and desserts were set up for Guests to enjoy just before the dancing commenced, and a surprise Fireworks display topped off their evening celebration.

That wasn’t the end of celebrating for these two however, as they joined a handful of friends for their After Party on the beach made complete with a Bonfire, cocktails and s’mores under the inky moonlit sky.

Why Planning a Destination Wedding Isn’t as Hard as You Think

We know that a destination wedding can be a little intimidating, but planning those nuptials in paradise really doesn’t have to be as hard as you think. Honestly. Because with the right team of vendors and a lovely locale like Mexico, everything can be just as simple as planning your big day right in your very own hometown. Need proof? The beautiful wedding of Tiziana and Roberto is all you’ll need.

Tiziana and Roberto’s wedding wasn’t just any old destination wedding – it was a two-day celebration with three (yes, three!) ceremonies, two dresses and a fireworks send-off. Basically a dream come true for any bride and groom-to-be, and we honestly can’t get over every gorgeous moment. But if you’re wondering how they put it all together so beautifully (we were, too, you guys), look no further than the team at Del Cabo Weddings. From their talented planners and designers to the totally fun wedding style quiz, they take the time to get to know each of their clients, so the end result is basically genius. (Just ask Tiziana and Roberto.) What does that mean for you? Well, for starters, you won’t be sitting miles away from your wedding destination cluelessly searching for the perfect venue. Del Cabo Weddings has a super close relationship with all venues and hotels in Los Cabos, so they’ll know just where to go. They can even set up venue tours, if you want to schedule an early visit. (YES.)

Tiziana and Roberto wanted a traditional Roman Catholic wedding, so Del Cabo Weddings guided them to the gorgeous chapel at One and Only Palmilla a week before their celebration, so they could officially tie the knot in a church as Mexican law dictates. The next weekend? Alllll about celebrating with their family and friends with two more beautiful ceremonies and reception for the ages at Le Blanc Spa Resort. We know what you’re thinking – but even though their big day MAY sound logistically impossible from the comfort of your (very far away) home, trust us. Del Cabo Weddings can handle it all. From their relationships with venues and hotels to their long list of amazing vendors, you can truly sit back and enjoy yourself while they take care of everything. And that includes your welcome party, going away brunch and all of the other etceteras, too.

With over 30 years of collective experience and a team of professionals that knows it all, Del Cabo Weddings is our go-to when it comes to those dreamy celebrations in Los Cabos. Contact them today to let them take the reigns. From their decor warehouse to their staff of techies, landscapers, planners and more (!), they can create that dream wedding you’ve always wanted on your budget – whether that’s an extravagant ballroom affair or a laid-back party on the beach.

The best flower girls ever? These sweet grandmas.

After seven awesome years at SMP, I’ve finally landed on my fave wedding moment of all time. Yep, this beautiful bride asked her sweet grandmothers to act as official flower girls and if you’re thinking that’s the cutest thing you’ve ever heard, you would be right. Add to that heartwarming moment the prettiest backdrop in all of Los Cabos (hello, Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa) and you’ve got yourself a destination winner. See it all captured by GVphotographer in THE VAULT.

From GVphotographerThis amazing beach wedding took place at Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa, located just a few steps away from the sparkling Sea of Cortez just between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Lacey and Jeremy had a beautiful ceremony officiated by the best Minister in Mexico (he was my wedding minister as well). Their wedding was unique with a special twist by having their grandmothers as flower girls, scattering rose petals along the bridal path. At the conclusion of the ceremony in what is probably the best known of all the rituals associated with Jewish weddings it is customary for the groom to break a glass to confirm the union. After a few cocktails, tequila and a lot of dancing they decided to continue the party at the swimming pool. This was a fun wedding with friends and family, everybody had an amazing time in this Cabo destination wedding.

This is How You Do Tropical Elegance in Los Cabos

I’ve got serious spring fever right now and this tropical goodness is just about sending me over the edge. Planned by Esoteric Events, it’s elegance done oh-so-right among palm trees and seaside sunsets that make the sand glow. Pretty dreamy right? And let’s not even get started on the gorg color palette. Just stroll on over to the The Vault for the beauty in full captured by Sally Pinera.

From Kristin Alexander at Esoteric EventsMonica and JC love to travel and after hearing about the newly built Cape Hotel they took a trip down there from Chicago to visit and fell in love. They wanted their wedding to feel like a Wes Anderson movie and they instantly knew The Cape was the perfect backdrop for it. The weekend kicked off with a daytime pool party followed by dinner and drinks in town. Guests were able to enjoy wonderful food, live music and walk the town together before the wedding the next day. Monica opted for a warm color palette reminiscent of a Cabo sunset with wood farm tables and chairs to work with the venue and the existing decor. With only their closest family and friends in attendance it was a tight nit group who knew how to party and danced the night away to The Cape’s resident DJ, DJ Capri.

This Beautiful Bride Underwent Surgery 5 Days Before Her Wedding

I’ve read many stories that have pulled on my heartstrings in my four years with Style Me Pretty and those sweet stories still get to me today. This Bride’s battle with an illness that threatened her flight to Cabo for her Big Day is no exception. And when you watch the film below from Elysium Productions, I think you’ll be dabbing the tears, too. When you’re done drying those eyes? Head to The Vault for more from Kellie Kano!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/160146662 600 338]

From the Bride… I was lying in a hospital bed, anxious and afraid, clutching tightly to my fiancé’s hand. Our wedding was in less than five days, but I was waiting for the neurologist to clear me for surgery. This hospitalization was the most recent in the saga of my illness. Months prior, I was diagnosed with bilateral vertebral artery dissections. The arteries in my neck that bring blood to my brain had torn and clotted. With blood clots inches from my brain, I was a walking time bomb and major stroke risk. The diagnosis saved my life. Throughout all of the appointments, shots and procedures, Will was always by my side. I am so lucky to have found the love of my life. Luckily, after surgery, I was cleared to fly. Will and I moved our flights to Cabo San Lucas back a day and made it to our wedding in time!

How We Met: Will and I grew up only blocks away from each other, but it took over two decades for our universes to collide. I’m so glad they did. Will and I met through a mutual friend on a starry, summer night. He drank scotch and told a couple of jokes (I seem to remember one in particular about a French fighter pilot) while we all laughed and reveled in the energy of the night. In the middle of a lighthearted game of Truth or Dare, my friend sensed a connection between Will and me, and dared us to kiss. All eyes were on us as I turned toward Will, wondering what he would do. Our eyes locked, and before I had time to think, Will kissed me. The energy was palpable and a lively romance began. The stars had aligned, and we were finally in the same place, at the same time.

Five and a half years later, we gathered with 50 of our closest friends and family members in picturesque Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to celebrate a love realized. We carried out the motif of destiny throughout the wedding, and our theme, “Stars Align & Hearts Combine,” reflected the idea of fate and the importance of the universe and love. Will and I worked with our invitation designer, Swell Press Paper, to create custom letterpress invitations that reflected our theme. I’m a copywriter, so I loved working on the wording for the invitations and building our website, willovescarson.com. Since Will is a mathematician, we even included an insert called, “Carson & Will by the Numbers,” that listed important dates in our relationship.

A year before the wedding, my parents surprised me with a trip to New York City to pick out my dress. I found my dream dress at L’Fay Bridal, and then it was made-to-measure by Flora Bridal in Israel. It was form-fitting with delicate lace details, and lightweight fabric that made it perfect for Cabo’s arid climate. By the end of the night, I changed into a shorter, light blue dress so I could dance to my heart’s content.

The entire wedding weekend was full of emotion because it was the first time in months I was able to have fun and be around so many family and friends, despite my illness. Before the ceremony, Will and I decided to do a first look. It was an incredibly emotional moment because we had worked so hard to get there and we were just so grateful to actually be in Cabo, at our wedding, getting married.

Our colors were shades of pastel pink, blue and lavender to compliment the blues of the Sea of Cortez and the green of the lawn overlooking the desert cliffs during the ceremony. I had blue flowers in my hair that matched the blue flowers in Will’s boutonniere. The officiant read a passage I wrote about the meaning of love, then Will and I exchanged our own handwritten vows before sealing it with a kiss!

During the reception, we had dozens of traditional Mexican star lanterns hanging over the dance floor to create a celestial vibe. We draped fabric inside the Cabo del Sol clubhouse and had lots of hanging flowers and tall centerpieces with my favorite flower—dahlias, to create a romantic ambiance. Our planner, Gaby Cobian of Vivid Occasions, and the florists at Cabo Floral Studios really made our cosmic vision come to life. I’m so glad we had Kellie Kano and Elysium Productions there to capture the entire wedding weekend.

Our first dance was definitely one of my favorite moments. Our song, “Alive,” by Empire of the Sun, is very fast-paced. Will and I didn’t practice at all, and ended up trying to do the box step to EDM. By the second verse, we dropped formalities and just danced. Then, once the chorus started, we invited everyone to come join us out on the dance floor. I remember looking around and seeing our closest family and friends all jumping, dancing, singing along, laughing and reveling in the thrill of the moment. Standing in the middle of all that energy was incredible; we were so overwhelmingly full of love and I’ve never felt anything like it before.

The father-daughter dance was also really emotional because we danced to a song my dad sang to me as a lullaby growing up, “After the Goldrush,” by Neil Young. After a delicious meal and listening to thoughtful toasts, everyone was back on the dance floor for the rest of the evening. For our exit, Will and I rode off in a golf cart and surprised everyone as ground fireworks went off, lighting the path as we drove away under the night sky. I have the happiest memories from my wedding weekend. I am so grateful to my parents for giving me my dream wedding, and so thankful to all of our guests who joined us in celebrating our eternal love. It was nothing short of magical. I will remember it forever.

From Arianna O’CampoMichael & Heather were a joy to work with, Heather really knew since the beginning, she was looking for a very romantic, classy & elegant feel on her wedding day. Elegant Los Cabos Summer Wedding

It’s my belief that a destination wedding should literally and figuratively whisk you away, where the bride, groom and all their guests are removed from reality for a brief but beautiful bit of time. And it just so seems that this handsome couple would agree with me, saying “I do” in a chic celebration, designed by Mishka Designs and coordinated by Leslie Bost of One Happenings. Iris and Light captured every second of this stylish soiree for us to fawn over in our VAULT right this way!

From Mishka DesignsKate and Howie’s wedding week included a beautiful cruise around the famous Los Arcos and culminated in a beautiful, garden-inspired wedding at the now renamed The Resort at Pedregal. Kate loves details and she poured her heart and soul into every detail of the wedding… from the floral grown and beautiful shoes she wore at the rehearsal cruise to the wedding invites, save-the-dates, welcome bags down to the shade of blue ribbon tied around the napkins at her reception.

Her ceremony walkway walked right into the middle of the infinity pool and created a beautiful backdrop, as though they were standing at water’s edge (which they pretty much were!). We were granted permission to take out the in-house light fixtures at her reception location and replace them with beautiful crystal chandeliers and that created a warm, beautiful ambience for later-on in the evening. Some more special details from Kate’s wedding included remembrance photos for her bouquet wrap, hand-embroidered handkerchief for her groom, all signage was hand-painted (including the lengthy escort board!), the menus took months to design in order to get the font and the colors the perfect shade.

The love Kate and Howie had for each other radiated from every fun-filled moment to the next and their wedding was planned with the same loving detail that they both put into their courtship.

Mexico Wedding at Cabo Azul Resort from Callaway Gable

The second my eyes graced all the gorgeous sitting in this post, I was a goner. I knew from that moment on, I would spend this day drooling over all the Cabo prettiness captured by Callaway Gable, inevitably delaying my productivity a bit. But it’s worth it and then some, because every image is a dream come true. And the couple in the middle of it all? They are a vision, making your hours spent in this gallery feel like you are flipping through the most stylish of magazines. See it all here.

From the Bride…We both love to travel and knew we wanted to tie the knot in a destination setting but wanted it close enough so most of our guest would be able to attend the celebration with us. Since we live in California and a lot of our guests were from California we choose Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I knew I wanted to keep everything very simple and clean because I did not want to take away from the beautiful architecture. My colors were light grey, tan, white and an accent of green. The wedding was held in a beautiful wooden chapel that looks over the water. It is open on both ends to let the ocean breeze through and it has a giant iron cross hanging down in the front. The chapel was not a working chapel but an architectural setting for weddings to take place. This all took place at The Cabo Azul Resort.

We had a traditional Christian Ceremony and my father was the one who officiated the wedding. It was a very emotional ceremony for everyone because he was able to tell personal stories that were from the heart. The ceremony was very personal to us since my father was marrying us and he was able to tell specifics from our lives that everyone was able to relate to. It was also very emotional because he was giving away his first daughter to a man that she loves.

The reception was held at Javier’s Restaurant on the deck outside which was also located at the resort and  My husband surprised everyone by hiring fire dancers and it was such a hit. Even people from other resorts and people who had been walking on the beach came over to see the amazing show. Friends of ours had their yacht there and they let us take it out for a week after the wedding. We invited 3 other couples from the wedding party and all lived on the boat for a week. We fished, snorkeled, swam with sea lions and went exploring in all the cities around Cabo. My favorite memory of the day was my husband’s speech to me during the reception. I had never heard my husband speak in public and it was the most beautiful speech and I could tell he meant every word he said

Los Cabos Wedding from Parker J Pfister Photography

If ever there was a moment where I was about to drop everything and jet off to Mexico, it would be this moment. The culprit? This gorgeous destination wedding crafted by Fiestas Los Cabos and Elena Damy.  From the second I laid eyes on the images from Parker J Pfister Photography I was done with snow and winter and so, so ready for sunshine and margaritas. They play extra nice with south of the border “I Dos”.  See for yourself right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… From the moment we got engaged Kenny and I knew we wanted to kick off our marriage celebrating with family and friends in a warm and fun location. The One and Only Palmilla in Cabo was a natural choice since it was the first place we vacationed together. We envisioned a relaxing and fun weekend with activities for our guests to enjoy. Judging by the fact that people are still talking about it I think we more than fulfilled our vision!

Everything from our save the date box filled with stationary by Ceci New York, a mini bottle of patron and a sombrero to the welcome bag with beach balls, waterproof iPod speakers, Cuban cigars, and other vacation essentials set the tone for the weekend to come.

We started the weekend festivities with a beautiful sunset cruise on the Sea of Cortez. The following day our guests enjoyed a beachside yoga session and a golf tournament aptly named the “Ashley and Kenny Classic.” Friday’s rehearsal dinner was held at the Office and featured their famous margaritas and fire dancers. Our wedding day’s sunset ceremony, fireworks when we cut the cake, and 2 am jump in Palmilla’s fountain were the perfect ending to a weekend we will never forget.

Los Cabos Wedding from Lyde & Wright Photography

Raise your hand if you’ve fantasized about having an incredibly intimate and undeniably romantic ceremony on a beach somewhere. You too? Even though I wouldn’t change a thing about the barn wedding I had, I’ll always have a thing for pretty beach getaway weddings. And this adorable couple’s day is just how I would have done it; sweet and simple and ending with a bon fire. Lyde & Wright Photography captured all the pretty and you can see it all right here.

From Lyde & Wright PhotographyJamie and Grant chose to have a small destination wedding at the beautiful Westin Resort in Cabo San Lucas. With close family and friends, they had their ceremony right on the beach. Jamie works as an event planner in the state of Washington, so most of their decor was DIY. Her mother-in-law embroidered all the napkins for the reception, and they made gift bags for all the guests with treats from the Los Cabos area. The ceremony took place just before sunset, allowing most of their formal portraits to be taken right as the sun was going down over the desert. The reception was on an open air patio, secluded from the rest of the resort. The night ended with a campfire by the beach, roasting marshmallows and lighting sparklers.

Los Cabos Wedding at Huerta Los Tamarindos from Sara Richardson Photography

When you think of Los Cabos, you most likely begin daydreaming of warm sands on open beaches and maybe the most gorgeous terrain in North America. But I bet you don’t think of an organic farm as picturesque as Huerta Los Tamarindos that seems to have been tailor-made for these two lovebirds to exchange their vows. Surrounded by sunflowers and marigolds of the prettiest of arrangements from Cabo Flowers & Cakes, every image from Sara Richardson Photography seems to glow those brilliant golden hues. See it all in the gallery right here.

From Rachel Hansen of Infinity WeddingsNita and Aaron loved the country/farm concept for their wedding, which is not common for Cabo destination weddings. It took us a while to find the perfect location to host their special event, and what better than a certified organic farm less than a mile from the beach? Huerta Los Tamarindos has been producing organic produce for local restaurants and exporting to the US for the past 10 years. Their large property had ample space to host all wedding events on site for Nita and Aaron’s 100 guests. Seeing the sunset over the crops while drinking organic mojitos and munching on the fresh farm food just added to the overall charm of their wedding. We decorated the ceremony arch and dinner tables with fresh sunflowers, cilantro and marigolds grown on the farm. Cabo Flowers added special touches of baby’s breath, daisies and alstromeria to complete the centerpieces in various glass jars and containers. Aside from the scenery, other fun elements for this wedding included a photo booth, DJ music until the wee hours of the morning and sparklers for the newlyweds’ exit.

Los Cabos Wedding at Cabo del Sol by Amy Bennett Photography

Cabo del Sol is clearly to-die-drop-dead-gorgeous on its own, but SIGNATURE Event Consulting & Design managed to double the TDDDG factor with their midas touch. This Alvina Valenta clad bride takes it over the top with her stunning big day look, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that the groom is a sight for sore eyes. To add to the recipe behind this wedding location sweetness: Cabo just so happens to be the locale of this lovely couple’s engagement. If your eyes are in need of a vacay, be our guest and rest them on Amy Bennett Photography‘s stunning shots in the full gallery!

From the Bride… Greg and I have a soft spot for Los Cabos — we just love it there! He proposed to me in Cabo last summer, and we knew we had to find a way to fit this place into our wedding plans. Shortly after our engagement, we did some research and found our amazing planners from Signature Mexico: Sarai and Martha. We scheduled a trip to meet them, and we immediately loved their styles and personalities. We were thrilled they 100% understood our wedding vision – a fun and “intimate” wedding weekend for 120 guests. These two ladies are amazing at what they do. I’m still in shock how they kept their cool during the whole process.

Our wedding weekend started on Thursday night. We had a very small group of people for dinner at Esperanza Resort, where Greg and I got engaged. On Friday night (the day before our wedding), we hosted a welcome reception for everyone. This gave us the opportunity to talk to all our friends, relax and have fun. The Hilton set up amazing food stations and desserts to die for – but Sarai and Martha added the finishing touches on the design and décor that made the night perfect! In fact, we scheduled the reception for two hours during the sunset, but since everybody was having so much fun, we had to extend it! For our wedding, we always dreamed about exchanging our vows in front of the ocean surrounded by all our friends and family, so we decided to marry in Cabo del Sol. We both come from very traditional families, so even though a traditional church wedding was a little more complicated, we wanted to make sure the reception was all about having a big party with our friends and family!

We loved our vendors. Planning a destination wedding can be sometimes challenging, so the ladies at Signature set us up with a list of amazing vendors who fit our tastes and expectations (the hair and makeup team made me and all the bridesmaids so happy, the flowers were so beautiful, the music during the reception was awesome, and all our friends were fascinated with our DJ). And last but not least, we wanted to make sure we documented our day with the best photographer in town, and that’s why we hired Amy Bennett. The photos are sweet and geniune, and she was able to tell a beautiful story in pictures. We loved her energy and how great she was with us and all our guests. We had the time of our lives. Cabo will always be a part of us and our relationship!

From SIGNATURE Event Consulting & Design… Erika is a classic, elegant beauty with a beautiful soul, and we really wanted her wedding to reflect her style and spirit. Though her guests were traveling to Los Cabos for her wedding, Erika and Greg were the consummate hosts, and they wanted their family and friends to feel as if they were at home in this beautiful, exotic location. The mood and ambiance was sophisticated yet personal, refined yet relaxed, chic and intimate, stunning in its simplicity. The love was palpable. Erika really paid attention to textures and has an eye for detail (which we love!)! She chose a subtle color palette of neutrals, ivory and blush, with a hint of yellow. We used fabrics made of natural cottons and linen fibers, with a few touches of raffia to embrace this concept of natural elegance. The tablecloths, napkins and furniture created a neutral canvas and a balanced composition to the blush and yellow hued floral arrangements, decor accents and printed materials. Erika and Greg’s very first dance was set to Natalie Cole’s L.O.V.E. It was the perfect musical accompaniment to embrace the tone of the event: Classic Romance!

As promised, we are sending you off into the weekend with one very fabulous film by Floataway Studios!  Enjoy!

From the Bride… After a whirlwind year together, Greg proposed and we began planning the most significant day of our lives thus far. With family spread out all over the globe, we quickly decided that a destination wedding was the best fit for us, and luckily came across the absolutely gorgeous Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa, in Los Cabos, Mexico. Dreams Los Cabos provided the perfect backdrop for our day: sweeping views of the Sea of Cortez from the garden ceremony location, an intimate pool reception, lots of palm trees and all the sunshine we could ask for!

One of the most important elements of our day was how it would be chronicled, and Greg & I felt quite blessed to come across Mary & Scott of Floataway Studios. They are both absolutely gifted in their respective fields (photography and videography), and made us feel absolutely comfortable in front of the lens. It is an amazing moment to look back at your photos and watch the most important moments of your day unfold. (The expression on Greg’s face as I walked down the aisle as captured by Mary, is something that I will absolutely cherish forever!)

When setting out the vision of what I wanted the day to look like, I tried to keep it as simple as possible: sunny yellow contrasted with sea glass, organic burlap fabrics, wood-grained paper details and reclaimed barn wood. One of my favorite decor elements of the wedding were the vintage glass beer bottles we used for flowers at the reception – I spent months hunting down those just-perfect blue-green colors until I had the perfect collection! We wanted a warm, rustic feel contrasted with the bright, airy-ness of the resort setting, and all of the small details came together beautifully. Another detail we felt necessary to incorporate was our shared love for Rob Ryan, the paper-cut artist. Greg surprised me earlier in the year with a Rob Ryan brooch that said “Our Adventure is About to Begin.” I wore it clipped to my bouquet. Our wedding programs featured a beautiful excerpt from Rob Ryan’s book “This Is For You” in tribute of Greg’s mother, who passed away in 2009, shortly before we met.  (I wear her wedding ring on my right hand.)

One element that was very important for me to incorporate was my Greek heritage. Going against the grain and not having a “big fat Greek wedding” was a first in our family, but I was determined to bring a little bit of Greek to Los Cabos! A fun tradition that occurs at Greek weddings is the “breaking of the bread.” This custom entails that the bride and groom fight over a large loaf of bread (Which was lovingly baked by my best friend and brought over from Toronto!), to win the larger piece. The person who succeeds in obtaining the larger half will ultimately “wear the pants” in the relationship and be the dominant decision maker. Coming from a long line of very strong-willed women, I was absolutely sure I would win! The photos tell the hilarious story – needless to say, I am a very poor loser!

After an evening filled with dancing, cocktails, and a lot of humidity, we surprised our guests by leading them down to the beach, and asking them to send a wish into the sky for us by lighting a floating lantern. Our guests were so surprised, and we had so much fun with our toes in the sand, watching the lanterns drift off into the night sky!

From the Bride… Soon after our engagement we took a vacation to Los Cabos, Mexico and instantly fell in love with the breathtaking beaches and vivid cultural. After that trip we came home envisioning a wedding that was intimate, romantic and an amazing experience for our guests. We were inspired by the bright sky, blue ocean and Mexican tiles, which lead to a blue mosaic tile theme throughout the wedding. I worked closely with Heidi Jimenez of Zenadia Design on our invitation suite and printed materials to feature patterns with different shades of blue, which conveyed the feeling of Mexico without being too beachy. Style Me Pretty also inspired many of our DIY projects and décor. I was truly smitten with all the stylish floral arrangements and gorgeous details featured on the blog.  We incorporated luggage tag save-the-dates, ribbon wands, a Just Married banner, Novio and Novia signs and canvas welcome bags filled with beach towels, passport holders and local Mexican treats.

I often received advice that you have to really like your wedding planner and photographers, because they are going to be around you the whole day. We were lucky enough to actually love ours! Hiring Sarai Flores of SIGNATURE Event Consulting and Design, was one of our first and best decisions! I knew you lose a lot of control when planning a destination wedding and that we would need great partners. We immediately feel in love with Sarai’s calm nature and European style, and knew that we could completely trust her. Sarai really went above and beyond to ensure our vision was executed flawlessly and that we were able to relax and enjoy every second of the wedding.  When my Aunt introduced us to husband and wife photography team, Gary and Courtney Christenson, we were blown away with their creativity and talent. They have such fun-loving personalities and an amazing passion for travel, which really proved that they were the ideal photographers for us.  Not only did they document the entire weekend in Cabo, but Gary and Courtney genuinely listened and cared about our ideas, and we had a blast along the way!

It had always been a priority for us to be married in a church and be united as husband and wife with God. Throughout our engagement I even converted to Catholicism, so I could fully participate in the mass. We loved the romantic and historic features of the Mision de San Jose del Cabo, located in an artistic downtown area. Many of our family and friends had important roles in the traditional ceremony and we were so filled with emotion as we joined in the sacrament of marriage. We wanted the reception to resemble an intimate, alfresco dinner party complete with delicious cuisine and impeccable service. We subtly paired the intricate club house with our blue mosaic details and crisp white for a sophisticated look.  From the “Ants Marching” introduction, to my uncle’s heartfelt blessing and humorous toasts, paired with all night dancing and cigar smoking, the night truly amazed us! Our wedding day was such an incredible celebration. Javier and I are so fortunate to have created many beautiful memories with our family and friends that we will treasure forever!

From the Bride… We knew from the beginning that we wanted a small destination wedding. We own a customized catering company and work really hard to create events and weddings all over the Chicagoland area- for us, having a wedding here was just another Saturday night at work. We needed to think very outside the box…outside the country!

The start of the planning was pretty painless. I am not much of a “researcher.” I like to make decisions and I don’t spend a whole lot of time dwelling or shopping around. I googled “Cabo wedding planner,” clicked on the first result (or maybe it was the name I liked best), gave Baja Weddings a call and it was done and done! Jenny was amazing- she helped us narrow down the best locations for us from a few thousand miles away. We went to Cabo for 3 days on a mission to find out where all of this bliss would happen. Immediately, we both were impressed by Cabo. I had never seen such a landscape in my life- mountains, ocean, desert, cacti, palm trees. Just beautiful scenery. Jenny drove us around ALL DAY- looking at hotels, restaurants, resorts, and nothing was calling our names. Then, she said, “Please just check out this golf club right before I drop you back off.” And there was Cabo Del Sol, calling, screaming, our names. It was absolutely perfect and just what we wanted. Beautiful, open air space with incredible Mexican architecture and decor. It was perched up on a hill overlooking the ocean, but the ceremony would be a little golf cart drive down to the beach. It was perfect!

I truly feel like planning our wedding was so fun. It wasn’t all totally easy and I had a lot of really helpful opinions from my sisters, friends and mom. My wedding planner Jenny seemed to really ‘get’ me and my style. When you have a destination wedding, by nature, you are giving up a lot of control. I really didn’t want to get so crazed over the details, so being far away, you are forced to trust. We had spent months developing a relationship with Jenny and I was so happy to have someone who knew my vision planning my wedding. Until she called me two months before the wedding to let me know she would be leaving Cabo and returning to the states. Dum dum dummmmmmm. She assured me that Roxanne, who would be taking over for her, was great. Great would be an understatement. She was absolutely incredible. Although she serendipitously became part of our wedding, she quite deliberately helped us create the most special day of our lives.

The ceremony was MAGIC. Driving down to the beach with my dad all ready to walk down the aisle was the most emotional moment for me. I knew everyone was down there waiting for me, that Vaido and I were about to see each other and that I was about to WALK DOWN THE AISLE on my wedding day. Unreal. As my dad and I started walking, he squeezed my arm and with a cracked voice said “I love you.” I have heard him say I love you every time we talk, but I have never heard him say it like this. It was such a special moment that I will cherish forever.  Our ceremony was perfect. Most of what I remember was staring into my Vaido’s eyes and feeling the warm sun on my face. I kept turning around to everyone and smiling just so they knew I was happy they were all there sitting behind us. Our kiss. The best. Right when we kissed, a surprise mariachi band that snuck up on the hill behind everyone started playing “Son de la Negra,” a traditional Mexican song. It was so fun to walk back down the aisle, everyone throwing rose petals on us, to the live mariachi band and even more fun that no one knew it was coming! It really made it feel like it was time to fiesta.

Our incredibly talented photographer, Kenny Nakai, knew that I felt pretty strongly about not having many formal posed photos taken. Our parents are both divorced and remarried, so making sure all the combinations of family had photos would have taken forever. The great part about having such an amazing photographer is that I didn’t worry for one minute if there would be good photos. He has a vision no one else could imagine and is able to capture moments you could never plan or anticipate.

The reception is so cool- just a big party that you planned for all of your favorite people to enjoy! I love white linens and I’m kind of a less is more when it comes to table decor, so we kept it pretty simple. The dining room at Cabo del Sol is beautiful and I didn’t want to take away from that in any way. The centerpieces were pretty simple too, a beautiful mix of succulents and cymbidium orchids flooded with candles. Our five-course meal was sprinkled with the most lovely toasts and speeches that of course made everyone laugh and cry. We were then invited to the outside bar and dance floor where the band began playing. We had a Cuban cigar table that Roxanne set up and I loved that even my girlfriends were puffing away. The reception was exactly what I had hoped for: lots of laughter, champagne, dancing, sweating, great music, and memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Everyone had So. Much. Fun.

I think the key to truly enjoying your destination wedding is to get lost in the moment of it, trust the people that are putting it together fully and don’t worry when things don’t go as planned. Isn’t the whole point of wanting everything perfect so that you can enjoy this day? Let it be magical and it will be magical!
