From the Bride… Our wedding day was everything I had dreamed of! We got married at the Yarmouth New Church in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, which was built in 1870. We then had pictures on a private beach in Dennis with the ocean and cliffs in the background and then took the trolley to Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster. I grew up on Cape Cod, and as a little girl we would drive past Ocean Edge on our way to someplace else. I remember thinking the place looked liked a castle from a fairy tale, and that maybe someday I would get married there. Our wedding theme was classic elegance, but we still kept in mind the fact it was on Cape Cod in May. We went with soft pinks and whites for our colors. The one piece that I centered the wedding around was a pearl necklace given to me by my paternal grandmother. I knew I had to wear the necklace as my grandmother had passed away several years before our wedding, and I know that she would have loved that I wore it. So I knew I had to get a dress that worked with pearls, and from there, everything just followed with the style of the dress and the pearls. The best part of the wedding day was walking down the aisle and out the church hand in hand as a married couple. We were just so happy and it felt so surreal. The day was just perfect and having planned out everything very well in advance with a day-of timeline really helped things go smoothly. Overall, it really was the fairy tale day I envisioned as a little girl.

Joseph is a Midwesterner from Leawood, Kansas while Andrea is a die-hard New Englander from Marblehead, Massachusetts. Both artists, their paths crossed while they were Artists-in-Residence at separate organizations in Helena, Montana. Joseph was in town for a two-week residency at the Holter Museum of Art and Andrea was a two-year resident at The Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. After Joseph arrived in town, Andrea was enlisted as his tour guide by a friend that worked at the Holter. They ate crepes and shared horoscopes—and then went on to visit the Archie Bray studios and brickyard. After two weeks of fun in Helena they stayed in touch and began to date long distance. Not long after, Andrea attended graduate school in western New York and two years later was Philly bound.

In August of 2011 the couple went on a Hu family vacation to Estes Park, Colorado. With Andrea’s grandmother’s engagement ring in his daypack, Joseph planned a romantic hike to the appropriately named Gem Lake. On arriving at the mountain top lake, Joseph posed Andrea for a photograph in preparation for his proposal. A surprised Andrea gleefully accepted. On the way back to the cabin they stopped and bought champagne.

When it came time to start planning, the couple had two priorities: 1. the wedding needed to take place close to Andrea’s family in Massachusetts due to the travel restraints of her grandparents, and 2. the space needed to be kid friendly to accommodate not only Joseph’s 5 nieces and nephews, but also all of their friend’s babies and toddlers. The mother of the bride found Smith Barn while researching venues and quickly made an appointment to visit the space. Pictures were sent via email and everyone agreed that the historic venue—with lots of outdoor space for photos and kid friendly activities—was perfect!

Once she had the venue and the dress, the rest of the planning fell into place. Andrea’s dress, with lovely ethereal layers and deconstructed raw edges, was sweet yet modern. The venue, with its high ceilings, subdued lights and lovely aged wood, was rustic yet neutral. It seemed to Andrea that lush green foliage would activate the space and complement the barn’s interior. Multiple shades of green and grey, with pops of lavender and pale pink, were the focus of the decorations and apparel.

The couple worked hard to make the event personal and special for their loved ones. Being artists, they designed and made as much as they could themselves. Joseph designed the wedding website, invitations, programs, menus and thank you cards. Andrea and a few family members designed and crafted table overlays. Andrea hand built ceramic planters and centerpieces to hold lavender, geraniums, and ferns (the couple intentionally omitted white flowers from the decor as an homage to Chinese wedding tradition), in addition to cake stands and serving platters. Andrea bought the groomsman’s boutonnieres from BHLD and was inspired to make matching non-groomsman boutonnieres and ladies corsages (the feathers were great because they could be made weeks ahead of time). Escort cards were made from Azalea leaves, with punched hearts and lettered with silver paint pen. Favors were also DIY: reusable polycarbonate glasses embellished with punched heart hangtags and adhesive nameplates that doubled as seating place cards. Andrea’s mother baked pinwheel cookies, a Marquis family tradition, for each guest.

The ceremony was held outdoors, in front of a gazebo next to the barn. Married by Reverend Art MacDonald of the first Universalist Church of Essex, they personalized the ceremony, keeping it simple and sweet. Friend and mentor of the couple, Bruce Dehnert surprised the bride and groom with an original poem that was followed by a reading of a Shakespeare love sonnet by Bruce’s wife Kulvinder Kaur Dhew. The reception went seamlessly and time seemed to fly by.

Photographers Katie and Max set the tone for the day by suggesting that the couple do a first look photo followed by more photos in the woods nearby. In the midst of all the family, friends, and wedding jitters, it was an intimate hour to spend together before the ceremony, enjoying each other’s company and appreciating the specialness of the day.

From the Bride… Reese proposed on July 4th on the Charles River in Boston, just after a spectacular fireworks show. He gave me his great-grandmother’s platinum ring, which is circa 1920s art deco with intricate forget-me-not filigree on the sides. The ring was passed down to Reese by his grandfather after his grandmother passed away.

A year later, Reese and I married on the weekend of July 4th in Boston. It was “neutral” territory since I’m originally from Oklahoma, Reese is from Pennsylvania, and Boston would be our new home after we got married. We had a long-distance relationship (between NYC and Boston) for three years. International travel and exploring other cultures in the world is a huge part of who we are. A love for travel is what initially connected us. We’ve been to over 70 countries combined and 15 together, so it only made sense to incorporate travel into our wedding scheme. We sent “air mail” save-the-date postcards with photos of us from different places around the world. The wedding invitations were passports with Reese’s family crest on the front, and the response cards were boarding passes. At the reception, guests were greeted by a map and color-coded thumb tacks to show us where they have traveled and would like to travel. We also asked guests to share travel and marriage advice with us on vintage postcards, which were then placed in a vintage suitcase. Guests were directed to their tables by luggage tags. The table names were made up of ceramic postcards, named after places we had been together and accompanied with a framed picture of us in that corresponding country. Instead of the classic floral centerpieces, we had a cage globes filled with pink garden roses as the table focal point. Guests were also invited to take photos in the “around the world” photo booth with vintage travel posters and props from around the world (such as Russian hats, Viking horns and Japanese umbrellas). As a keepsake, guests got to take home a glass globe wine cork.

With it being July 4th weekend, it was only apropos that we ended the evening with a sparkler send off on the front steps of the Boston Library.

Commander’s Mansion Wedding from Lisa Rigby Photography + Petalena

Lisa Rigby just made my day.  Like, filled it with so much LOVE and joy, I can barely find the words to describe all of the pretty.  So, if I appear to be a bumbling mess, I seriously apologize… but once you get lost in the bright pink hues, stop-you-in-your-tracks vintage details and downright happiness flowing from each and every glorious image, trust me, you’ll feel the exact same way.  It’s a Summertime masterpiece with a bundles of beautiful blooms by Petalena, the perfect dose of sweetness and a gallery chock-full of lovely.  Join me there for more.

From the Bride… I was going for happy, vintage, American summertime! When I was a teenager, I used to watch Trading Spaces, and I remember one bit of advice from an interior designer on that show. She said something along the lines of you don’t have to try to force everything to match because chances are, if you pick things that you truly like, those things just have a way of looking great together. So, I was never stressed out about trying to match everything. I always liked the idea of a happy-go-lucky, vintage wedding, so that was the inspiration. I didn’t care if “vintage” was overdone — it’s just what we like! We’re not city people, but we happen to live in a city, so the BBQ dinner, cowboy boots and vintage-craziness were a small tip of the hat to the more rural life we’re hoping to have someday.

I hand-stamped the seating cards with gold ink, and tied a skeleton key to each one with burlap string. I got the skeleton key idea from seeing it on lots of Pinterest boards. The keys were collected from Ebay and Etsy. Joe punched out the corners on the all the seating tags once I started to get blisters doing it. What a guy! The favors were hanging glass crystals etched with silver designs, hung on ivory and aqua bakers’ twine. They were Christmas ornaments from Sundance. Joe asked me to marry him at Christmas time, and I thought it would be sort of a cute hint at his proposal. I, with help from my mom, dad and sister, hand-covered each favor box with printed paper, wrapped each box with mismatching but similarly-colored washi tape and tied little thank you tags (hand-stamped) to the boxes with the same twine. I first saw some paper boutonnieres on Martha Stewart’s website and thought it was a cute idea. All of the corsage and boutonniere designs were my own — each one was different depending on the person it were being made for! I also designed and made the invitations. The envelopes and envelope liners were bought at Paper Source. The ivory paper was thick watercolor paper. After making the invitation suite designs on my computer, I sent the files to Anna-Mae of Village Impressions, who converted them into clear cling stamps. I hand-painted the peach and turquoise lantern “glow” on each invitation and reception card, and then stamped each one with clear embossing powder. They were each embossed with ultra-fine black embossing powder using a heat gun, then each was glued with pH-neutral bookmaking glue to the backing paper. The designs had to be stamped and embossed separately from the text. Once they were glued and the paper bands were made, my mom hand-addressed the inner and outer envelopes, we stuffed and sealed them and sent them off! It was a lot more work than I’d anticipated, and if I could go back in time, this is the one thing I’d never want to do again. Between the designing and the actual constructing of the invitations, it took about two months to finish, and it was just as expensive as if I’d had them printed.

The tables, gold chairs, and ivory place settings were rented from Taylor Rental in Haverhill. I designed the tables myself. The ivory linens were from Smarty Had a Party. The burlap runners were custom made by Teresa White of Straightstitch. During the year before the wedding, I collected lots of antique hand-embroidered tablecloths and mismatching tea-saucers from about 100 Etsy and Ebay sellers. The gold, pink, and turquoise mercury glass votive holders were bought all over the place. Some of the milk bottles and glass jars used for the Petalena’s table arrangements were literally found on the sidewalk near our apartment. We placed them back on the sidewalk after the wedding, and they were gone within hours.

Nantucket Photo Shoot from Desiree Spinner Events + Leila Brewster

And just like that, I am obsessed. There are no words for how fast my heart fluttered when I first set sight on this shoot. Not a one. It’s everything I swoon over day in and day out captured in the dreamiest way by the talented Leila Brewster. With the gorgeous island of Nantucket serving as the perfect of backdrop for Desiree Spinner Events and Ariel Dearie Flower to work their design magic while lovely ladies frolicked in Claire Pettibone frocks – it all seems like a something that would visit me in my dreams, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that it’s photo shoot reality right here in the full gallery!

From Be Inspired PRWe wanted to show some classic Nantucket red colors but also some fun “in-season” summer colors such as mint and peach. We placed the table away from the house with signs following a trail up to the dunes as a fun activity for them to participate in. Nantucket has such a gorgeous landscape with the ocean, sand, beach grass, evergreens and dunes we thought placing the table amongst it was the perfect place to soak in the scenery. The menu is a traditional clambake with a modern flair. We have some classic nautical items on the table such as an oil lantern but also some natural and organic flowers with local bread wrapped in napkins.  We wanted the table to be girly and preppy!

From Ria Mackenzie PhotographyExpect nothing but style and charm from this quintessential Cape Cod wedding. Aly, a stylist for Rue La La who is formerly from Chatham, knew just how to coordinate the details. I loved how shades of pink and blue were incorporated with seersucker suits, bright coral bridesmaids’ dresses and those gorgeous turquoise necklaces they wore! The wedding was perfectly Cape Cod chic! Aly and Justin are so easy-going knew just how to entertain their guests. In Chatham, there’s no better way to welcome out-of-towners than with a raw bar, New England clam chowder and a keg of Nantucket Whale’s Tale (yum!). Topsfield Wedding at Willowdale Estate from Elizabeth Wertz Photography

I want to cry, happy tears that is, for this elegant and sentimental wedding by Elizabeth Wertz Photography. Between the bride wearing her late grandmother’s wedding gown {something old} to the breathtaking Les Fleurs arrangements {something new}, I don’t know what is most touching. Eat up more of the 1950s elegance in the full gallery here.

From Elizabeth Wertz PhotographyKara and Duane were married at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield on a spring evening rich in charm and sentiment. My assistant Kristen and I felt like were were stepping back half a decade when we entered the dark wood walls of the mansion. Vintage touches were everywhere: soft peach and creams, throw-back dresses, up-dos, pearls, brooches and tufts of delicate baby’s breath. Kara has such a funny, warm, refreshing personality, and mixed with Duane’s sweet, wacky, Texan vibe (he grew up there), they were so much fun to photograph. The ceremony was led by a friend, and Kara and Duane’s vows were so personal and heart-warming, not to mention hilarious! One significant touch was that Kara chose to wear her late grandmother’s gown, which she donned on her own wedding day in 1959. The elegant gown suited Kara perfectly, hugging her narrow waist and sweeping out in a swirl of cream-colored silk.

One of the most beautiful tributes I have seen was when Kara invited her grandfather to share a dance with her to honor her grandmother’s memory. There were few dry eyes in the room as he led his granddaughter onto the dance floor in the dress his bride had worn fifty-three years before. It was so sweet to watch both of their faces during this tender tribute. Then Kara ran up to the bridal suite to step into her frilly, feminine reception frock, and we strolled around the grounds for some portraits, the sun streaming through the trees for the first time as we reached the front lawn. Kara and Duane jumped into their cowboy boots for some hurried portraits, which were my favorites of the day. And then it was on to the reception, with gorgeous uplighting and merriment lead by talented DJ Shelly Shell, owner of Epic Entertainment Boston. It was rich in memory and tenderness, a beautiful mix of 1950s elegance with a touch of Texas.

From the Bride… Our wedding took place on Saturday August 27th, 2011 — the day of  Hurricane Irene. We planned for a backyard wedding at my husband’s parents’ home in Sterling, Massachusetts. When we heard about the hurricane coming our way, we figured we would continue with our plan rain or shine. We are from NYC, and friends and family hiked all the way to Sterling to be with us on our special day (and sheltered down with us all weekend for an extended stay). We did a lot of DIY projects — the signs, flowers, decorations and invites. We are very proud of everything that took place during that amazing, unexpected weekend!

Cohasset Wedding from Kelly Dillon Photography

This wedding is everything sentimental, genuine, and absolutely beautiful all wrapped into one, thanks to the amazing images from Kelly Dillon Photography and this couple’s devotion to their unique family heritage. From the moment she said yes to his proposal – complete with her late grandmother’s diamond and fireworks fit for a dream – to the moment they cut the cake surrounded by the beautiful florals from Fabiano Florist, each and every detail and decoration is rooted in the love and support of generations before these two that have shaped their love for one another. And check.out.those.rings. They make me want to rummage through my grandmother’s jewelry box in hopes of finding something even half as beautiful. Scott and Lauren met in college at Fordham University in New York in 2005. They almost missed each other! After living in the same dorm for two years, they finally met late in their junior year. They were best friends first and quickly realized how perfect they are together. After graduation, Lauren moved back to Massachusetts, while Scott stayed in New York to continue his education. For three years, they saw each other almost every weekend, traveling back and forth on Amtrak. Finally, they reunited in 2009 after Scott was accepted to Tufts Medical School and moved to Massachusetts.

Scott proposed on 4th of July weekend 2011 with a very special ring: the diamond had belonged to Lauren’s grandmother, who had recently passed away. Scott knew how Lauren loved the 4th of July and how important family is to her. He thought how special it would be to propose on that weekend, as Lauren’s father had also proposed to Lauren’s mother on the 4th of July. While sitting on a beach in Edgartown Harbor on Martha’s Vineyard, Scott got down on BOTH knees and proposed. The couple was lucky enough to celebrate that night with all of Lauren’s family, who were together for the 4th of July holiday.

Lauren and Scott knew they wanted their wedding to be about family, food and friends. After getting married at Saint Paul’s Parish in Hingham, they invited all of their family and friends for a fun afternoon reception at Atlantica Restaurant in Cohasset. In honor of their family, they included wedding portraits of their parents and grandparents on the place card table. Lauren grew up helping her father in his garden and decided to have a “garden/wildflower” look to the centerpieces. Lauren’s paternal grandmother grew up on a farm in Maine, so the blue mason jars for the garden centerpieces celebrate this past. Underneath the mason jars and family wedding portraits, Lauren and Scott incorporated Italian lace belonging to Scott’s paternal grandmother, who was from Sicily. Lauren also used lace from her mother’s veil as her “something old”, wrapping the lace around her garden bouquet. Following in the “garden/wildflower” theme, Lauren and Scott added burlap squares to the Italian lace under the centerpieces and had custom-made burlap banners decorating the room.

Despite me moving to Manhattan after graduation and Ivan moving to Dallas for medical school, we stayed together, seeing one another about every six weeks based on Ivan’s exam schedule. Three years of long-distance passed before I made the move to Dallas to be with the man I loved. As a graduation gift from medical school, we went on a trip to Croatia, where a very nervous Ivan got down on one knee along the coast of the Adriatic Sea and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. We knew from the moment I said yes that we wanted be married at Holy Cross, where our love story began. Saint Joseph’s Chapel at Holy Cross is a truly stunning space, and The Barn at Gibbet Hill, where we held our reception, is such a unique, warm and quintessentially New England setting. Together they created the perfect blend of tradition, elegance, charm and whimsy that we were seeking for our big day.

We wanted our wedding to be intimate and personal, and we knew that it would be the small and hand-crafted touches that would make the day so special: creating a custom map of the Holy Cross campus to enclose our invitations. Tying my father’s college ring into my bouquet (it’s blue!). Wearing my sister’s gorgeous veil as my something borrowed. Framed photographs of our parents and grandparents on their wedding day decorating the entrance to the reception. Our signature cocktails crafted with handmade Texas vodka. Cocktail straws with Cheers! flags written in the languages of our families – English, Croatian and Gaelic. Naming our tables after our favorite places. Jars of saltwater taffy in our color scheme. The bridesmaids’ bright yellow dresses (my favorite color) and a black version for our “groomswoman.” A clothesline of pictures of us with friends and family over the years. And who could forget the cows! One of my favorite memories of the day is taking pictures on the sprawling lawn at Gibbet Hill with the cows mooing at us in the background.

We were so fortunate to have people we love play an integral part of the day, including Ivan’s favorite teacher from his Jesuit high school presiding over the ceremony and my college roommate singing a gorgeous rendition of our song, “Mellow Mood” by Bob Marley, with our band for our first dance. We are so grateful to the magnificently talented people who helped us create our perfect day. And it was absolutely perfect.

Boston Engagement Session from Deborah Zoe Photography

Lovely and classic, with the spotlight on the newlyweds! I absolutely love engagement shoots that focus on the couple without too much distraction in the background, and this shoot is no exception. And who knew that an empty concrete parking lot would make such a spectacular setting? Kudos to Deborah Zoe Photography for creatively turning challenging weather conditions into the perfect backdrop. Click here for the full gallery of images.

From Deborah Zoe PhotographyJon and Emma looked to me for guidance when it came to the specific locations for their Boston engagement session. “Show us your Boston,” they told me. A photographer’s dream come true, I thought, and I got to work thinking of all the wonderful and fabulous locations that I would show them. But as the weekend neared, the weather took a turn for the worse. Suddenly, my grand ideas and secret spots flew out the window. It would turn out to be an afternoon of extremes and nothing that I expected!

First, we battled the heat. The sun was BRIGHT and the humidity was HIGH. We tried to find shade the best we could and made the best of what the weather dealt us. Though we were dying in the oppressive heat, secretly, I was overjoyed it wasn’t raining. I showed Emma and Jon around Copley Square and Trinity Church. After an outfit change, I brought my couple to the Boston Public Library. But as they were quickly changing in the bathroom, a security guard began yelling for everyone to get out because the library was closing. As we (and many others) were hurried out of the library, we were met with a gruesome-looking sky. In a matter of minutes, the weather had turned from hot and humid to dark and stormy. Thunder and lightning filled the sky, and we ran for cover. Only to find ourselves, and many others, seeking shelter in the beautiful, but now crowded Fairmont Copley Plaza. We sneaked around for a few photos and then decided to make the rainy trek back to the parking garage.

A church, a closed library, a hotel and a parking garage. That is my Boston. And while the conditions weren’t perfect, we made it work. Emma and Jon rolled with the punches (and the weather) and made even a dimly-lit, gloomy parking garage look fabulous.

After meeting through a mutual friend in the city, Rob and Rachel began dating right away and have been together ever since. And Boston has continued to be an important part to their relationship. I met these two urbanites in South Boston, and we spent the afternoon walking the neighborhood that they call home. All with the stunning Boston skyline as our backdrop!

Daniel Webster Estate Wedding by Rachel Kate Photography

As a self-admitted sucker for anything yellow + peach (and striped straws + mason jars, for that matter) this sunny wedding by Rachel Kate Photography is seriously pulling at my heartstrings! The bride hoped to recreate the feeling of laid-back backyard cocktail parties held by her parents when she was a kid, and with the help of Simply Inviting Weddings, her dream became full-blown wedding reality! This one’s not even close to over…the summery goodness continues right here!

From the Bride… I have such fond memories of parties that my parents have thrown throughout the years, especially the backyard gatherings in the summer where as kids, we would run around barefoot in the yard and play games while parents would sip cocktails as the sun set. Friends were treated like family and family was treated like friends, and Brett and I both knew that we wanted our wedding to feel just like one of those happy times and reflect our family traditions.

Our simple and sweet ceremony took place in my hometown of Scituate, Massachusetts, in the church that I grew up in. When an actual backyard wedding reception at my parent’s house was ruled out due to logistics, we happily decided on having our reception on the lawn of the Daniel Webster Estate in Marshfield, Massachusetts. It was the perfect location as the historic home reminded me of my grandmother’s house, which I grew up next door to. We picked our colors of yellow, peach and some touches of orange — we felt they set a romantic tone while still being bright, cheerful, and fun. Our family traditions were evident throughout the day, starting with our invitations by Lynne Johnson of Inviting Company, who designed our invitations to include drawings of  the horseshoes that are used to play at an annual competition at Brett’s family BBQ and a toy cannon that my family shoots off every Fourth of July. I wore a lace and tulle gown by Monique Lhuillier and was the seventh bride to wear my great-grandmother’s cathedral-length veil from 1911. Jen Cahill from the Tangled Web did an amazing job fulfilling my vision of natural, full, lush floral arrangements of garden roses, dahlias and peonies in containers I collected at flea markets. She even found a way to include out-of-season blue hyacinths in my bouquet, whose scent reminds me of my grandmother.

Cocktail hour took place on the porch and throughout the house — guests sipped Brett’s favorite Arnold Palmer from mason jars and collected their pinwheel table cards. Dinner was alfresco under a white tent strung with twinkle lights and paper lanterns that matched our colors. Our amazing caterer, The Silent Chef, presented trays of food to each guest at the table and guests served themselves as often as they wanted. Having a band was especially important to Brett and me, and First Class Band did not disappoint. They kept the party rocking all night! As per family tradition, we cut our wedding cake with an antique sword from the Revolutionary War. In addition to cake, we had a large table with different cookies prepared by friends and family members in advance of the reception, a wedding tradition said to originate in my mother’s home state of Pennsylvania. I love surprises, both giving and receiving them,so a highlight of the evening was when we surprised our guests with the arrival of an ice cream truck pulling up the estate’s drive for a mid-evening treat!

Though we created many of the details of our wedding — the wooden table numbers, menu cards and programs and ribbon wands — and collected antique tins for cookies, we could not have done it all without our amazing wedding planner, Heather Minicucci of Simply Inviting Weddings. She only made our day more perfect by introducing us to amazing vendors and managing the flow of the whole event. Because of her, Brett and I were able to enjoy our day without a care. She enabled us to have our lasting memory of standing together among the mason jar luminaria, looking back at the warmly lit tent filled with so many people we loved and cared about and realizing our vision had turned into a reality.

From the Bride… We decided to have our wedding on Cape Cod because it is a very special place for both of us. Alex’s family has a summer house on the cape, and I have visited the area many times as a child and again in college. We wanted to have an intimate wedding that really reflected our personalities, so we ended up doing a lot of DIY projects to personalize the ceremony and reception. We handmade the fabric pennants lining the path to the reception tent and across the driveway, as well as the paper pennants that spelled out “Happily Ever After.”  I made my feather hairpiece, as well as the sparkle hair pieces for all of my bridesmaids. We also did ALL of the flower arrangements ourselves — the bouquets, boutonnieres (made by the groom himself), table arrangements, altar arrangements (my grandma did those!), flowers in dresser drawers at the ceremony, etc. We had a “Flower Arranging Party” at the house on Friday, and all the ladies (and some gents) helped make the arrangements. Other DIY items included the ceremony programs/tissue packets, drink stirrers with flags, cow and fish place cards, photo booth props and all of the signs. My mom even candied the ginger that was put in the dark and stormy drinks!

The best part about our wedding was that we were able to spend a lot of time with our friends and family who traveled from all over the world to celebrate with us. In addition to our family, friends from kindergarten all the way through to graduate school made the trip out to the tiny town where we were married. We hosted events throughout the weekend — a casual, beachside seafood dinner on Thursday night, “Tee Time and Tea Time” the day before the wedding (a golf outing for the guys and a bridal tea for the ladies), and we ended the weekend with a farewell brunch on Sunday, which was the perfect way to say goodbye to everyone before we left for our honeymoon.

Cape Cod Wedding at Wychmere Beach Club by Lauren Methia Photography

There is absolutely nothing greater than a bride who is just consumed with happiness, giggles, and pure loveliness on her wedding day. This cute-as-can-be couple is especially wonderful, because the groom is a Brit! The gorgeous Wychmere Beach Club was the absolute perfect place to join together two families from two different continents to truly show them American charm and character. And when I saw the stunning images from Lauren Methia Photography of these two on the dock overlooking the harbor, I.just.died. Spend your Thursday morning wrapped up in our gallery, right here for more photos!

From Lauren Methia PhotographySean is from the UK and Mara is from the US, but on June 15, their families joined together to celebrate at their low key yet elegant wedding in Harwich Port, Massachusetts. The Wychmere Beach Club was the perfect place to get married because many guests came from overseas and it was their first trip to the states — what better place to visit than Cape Cod? My favorite part of the evening was my time spent with Mara and Sean alone. We sneaked out for some photos on the dock overlooking that gorgeous harbor at sunset. This is one of my favorites times to take photos! Not only is the lighting amazing, but the couple is relaxed, and it’s a chance to really take the whole day in.

Sage says “There are so many possibilities in the home alone, but it also sits on a huge piece of land that is equally amazing with quintessential Berkshires landscapes. Finally, if you drive a mile or two in any direction, there are amazing farms, historic homes, etc. The place feels completely timeless.” The day was filled with classic, elegant details and an old-timey feel. From Joyelle West PhotographyApril and Kevin are a very laid-back couple and wanted a wedding that was simple, casual, rustic and farmy. The wedding was on the smaller side (70 guests) and was held at the Overbrook House, a farm setting near Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The ceremony was under a big tree in the back of the house, and they had BBQ under a tent and dancing in a dance hall. The attire was J.Crew; the escort cards were made of packets of flower seeds; a friend designed the program, which they modeled after an old-fashioned pharmacy ad; and a family member made the cupcakes. Their dogs were also an integral part of the day, not only as ring bearers, but also as guests. :) All in all, their personalities showed through in a really simple, lovely and understated way.

Falmouth Wedding at Bourne Farm by Ruth Eileen Photography

I’m seriously speechless over this wedding. It’s perfection. From the old stone walls to the fresh picked berry favors, this wedding is the epitome of Cape Cod casual and Ruth Eileen Photography captured the cozy, intimate and handmade day insanely well. The wedding was kept super small so the bride and groom could really spend quality time with each and every guest and I must admit, that’s totally the way to do it. If you’re into all things mismatched, vintage, and laid back, you better get your booty to the full gallery because it’s chock full of pretty, pretty inspiration!

From the Bride… Jacob and I met on the west coast and eventually moved up to the east coast when I got into graduate school. My family has had a house on the cape since the turn of the century, and it is full of history. We would go don to the cape on weekends and whenever I had breaks in school, and he fell in love with the place that I had always loved growing up. When we got engaged, we knew the cape would be the location of the wedding. After looking at many of the resorts, we realized they all felt a bit too stuffy for us. We didn’t want to be out by a certain time or have certain restrictions, and we didn’t want it to feel too formal. Actually, what we wanted was our guests to feel the same way we felt on a summer day at the beach on the cape, going blackberry picking or kayaking. When we found Bourne Farm, we knew it was perfect. Over the year, we had rescued many birds on the cape (in winter many of them get blown off course and dehydrated), and the antique farm was a bird sanctuary. We included some bird details (the cake, table numbers) to honor this — and during the ceremony our minister pointed out to birds flying above us!

Much of the antique furniture either came from my family’s cape house or from yard sales or antique shops we visited the year before the wedding. We still have the impulse to stop and look for antique plates — it’s been so ingrained in us! We knew from the start we wanted everything to be authentic. My parents spent months working on some of the furniture, my mom made little burlap bags of stones to throw in the water and make wishes (a Celtic tradition). My aunt set up a candy bar with Jordan almonds (Italians eat 5 of them and celebrate the bittersweet nature of life at weddings). My grandmother had passed away before the wedding — and her wish was that I have a gift from her present on that day. The candy bar was my aunt’s idea.

Life is perfect, relationships aren’t perfect — the beauty is just being alive. We didn’t want matching plates or crystals everywhere  — we wanted people to feel relaxed and surrounded by meaning. There were times when people would look at me in disbelief at something I was doing that seemed unconventional (seven bridesmaids and only 30 guests!) or embroidered handkerchiefs instead of flower boutonnieres and corsages for family. We did what felt right to us — and that made it just right on the day. Walking down the aisle, my father stopped me and asked me to look over by the water. Underneath the chandelier we had hung from a tree was this gorgeous Victorian couch I had seen at an estate sale a year earlier. Jacob had seen my eyes light up and had bought it, keeping it from storage until the wedding day surprise. It became a focal point in pictures, and friends laughed that they were “on the couch” — a nod to my being a psychologist and entering into psychoanalytic training.

Both of us felt so happy, excited and not nervous — I think for us it was because we planned a wedding that felt so authentic. Because we only had around 30 guests, we were able to dance with our friends, eat dinner together and enjoy a boat ride with them. The intimacy on the day was incredible, and since so many of our family and friends live far away, it was important that we got to spend the day really celebrating with everyone. One of my favorite moments was during our sparkler send-off where Jacob and I were supposed to get in our row boat and paddle away into a star-filled night. Except that as the sparklers lit up the night-the boat was already way out in the water — a bridesmaid and groomsmen had taken it out for a romantic row together and lost track of time. We are still hoping that our day of celebrating our love may have kindled a new romance!
