Byfield Governor’s Academy Wedding from Sierra Kristen Photography

Fall in New England? It can’t be beat. It’s cozy sweaters and comfort food, of course, but it’s also when this region puts on the best show of the year. The natural color palette of the foliage almost looks too pretty to be real, so getting married during this time of year? Simply genius. And it only takes one look at the images from Sierra Kristen Photography to see just how wise it was. Because not only did these two get to marry their best friend, but they got to do it surrounded by some seriously stunning scenery. See it here.

From Sierra Kristen PhotographyI’m a sucker for October weddings and when Katie & Greg contacted me about photographing their late October wedding in Massachusetts- I immediately got excited about the fact it was a fall wedding in the New England area! Fall is by far, in my opinion, the most perfect season to marry. I enjoyed photographing at all the venues during their special day, especially the site that Katie and Greg chose to get married- Mosley Chapel at Governor’s Academy, which I was told is the oldest boarding school in America, where Greg and his brother attended at one time. The campus evoked such beauty on that warm fall day and the church was centrally located and surrounded by big beautiful autumn emblazoned trees. My favorite addition to the day was the ladybugs. I remember they got caught in Katie’s veil and at one point one landed on her left ring finger! Katie and Greg’s day ended with a perfect, romantic and intimate reception.

From the Bride… We knew it had to be October! Aside from having first met and having fallen in love on a crisp October night in Maine—There’s just something indescribably enchanting about autumn in New England. It was further important to Greg and I that our personalities be found in every detail of our special day and that every element have meaning; So, October it was! Moving forward with that notion, planning was as fun and easy to us as being ourselves. But there were challenges! Planning from across the country in the northern Arizona desert proved a little tricky at times but it all worked out—especially with the help and inspiration from such beautiful blogs as Style Me Pretty!

I’m sort of in love with every part of our wedding day. It didn’t all happen as planned but it all happened and it was lovely. One of my favorite parts was at our sweet little chapel where there were ladybugs everywhere. Because the groom and I lovingly dote on each other as “bee” and “bug” I couldn’t help my delight and to regard them as anything but a good omen. Yet on the other hand I’ll forever cherish the memory of my bridesmaids and I singing our hearts out.

It was such a special day; a real whirlwind labor of love!  From getting married in October in New England with the leaves so perfect at Greg’s high school’s chapel to having a carrot cake and having my mother’s beloved handwriting on all the place cards we really were in all the details of our dinner party themed reception. We were so touched our guests made it out to celebrate our dear day and that our efforts were so well received.  Some guests even said it was the best wedding they’d been to! But still, the cake taker is that I married my best friend our way.

From the Bride… When I began my search for a venue, I found myself drawn to the rustic feel of barn weddings. Many online blogs I read featured barn weddings where brides were able to take the natural feel of the barn and add their own touches of style and sophistication. I wanted an enjoyable event that didn’t break the bank and where guests could feel relaxed without the pressures that come with formal or lavish wedding venues. Smith Barn fit exactly what my fiancé and I had in mind. Set on a hill looking out over the North Shore area, Smith Barn was originally build in 1903 to store apples from the surrounding orchards at Brooksby Farm.

The day of the wedding was the warmest day of October. The red barn stood out as a beautiful contrast against the green of the surrounding orchards. Guests could casually mingle in and out of the barn and enjoy the beauty both inside and out. The interior of the barn included white lights wrapped around all wood beams and posts. I used burlap runners on every table and integrated burlap into table number signs as well as name tags. The florist was able to take my ideas and create beautiful wildflower arrangements of sunflowers and purple aster in a variety of containers ranging from rusted milk pitchers to tin cans. A trunk was used to collect cards and wedding pictures of parents and grandparents were interspersed throughout the gift tables. The cake was made by a teenager from my church who is an aspiring baker. She used two styrofoam layers for the bottom and a small cake on top. We put straw like material around the layers and two wedding birds on top. Guests enjoyed home made caramel apples to take home. A corner was designated for a DIY photo booth complete with a glittery backdrop and a box of funny masks and props. As the night progressed and dancing was in full swing, the cool air outside was a much needed reprise from the crowded dance floor. It was a joyful day of celebrating with friends and family in a simple and serene surrounding.

Nantucket Wedding from Soiree Floral + Cary Hazlegrove Photography

As Spring starts to show its pretty face, my mind is in a constant la la land dreaming of warm days that seem to last forever in places where the salt air is just the norm. So when this Nantucket beauty came across my desk, I was basically in heaven…and I set everything aside to allow myself to get lost in all the lovely worthy of any la la land. Planned to perfection by this beautiful Bride all the way from San Francisco with the help of the talents behind ACKtivities and Soiree Floral, it’s safe to say there is a lot to soak in from this pretty party. Thankfully with images this pretty by Cary Hazlegrove Photography, soaking it all in is an oh-so-fabulous way to spend a day. See them all here.

From the Bride… Our Wedding in Nantucket was orchestrated  in San Francisco, inspired by many trips to the island, and our location of choice by virtue of its unique character.  My husband’s family are multi-generational natives of the coastal town of Cohasset, Massachusetts and he has frequented the island as a summer getaway since childhood.  The island bestowed such beauty, charm, and embrace that his younger brother and sister moved there as permanent residents after college.  Through his fond memories of the past, and our experiences during recent annual trips, we decided that a summer wedding in Nantucket would be an ideal choice for us.  The challenges for all that encounter wedding planning is to pull together the particular components that not only hold emotional and spiritual closeness, but for such a location to provide for a special experience for guests to share among themselves.  We believed that Nantucket’s history, beaches, weather, and the array of activities would appeal to new and return visitors among our party.

Being a destination wedding, we wanted a custom invitation that excited our guests about the idea of going to Nantucket. Emily Kelly of U+U Design designed a specific piece for each event, incorporating both nautical elements and New England charm.  Each piece was unique and special, from the invitation to the custom map of the island to the welcome bags with personalized tags and itineraries.

While a series of thunderstorms put a damper on our Madaket Beach lobster bake, Kimberly Reed of A Taste of Nantucket and her crew responded by recreating the event at their cozy dining room, averting a crisis and restoring the rehearsal dinner celebration.

We were challenged with envisioning the floral arrangements given the unique character of the ceremony and reception locations. Dawn Kelly of Soiree Floral knowing both locations so well, provided invaluable advice and suggestions which resulted in beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements that were simple and elegant and perfectly reflected our personalities.

While I did a lot of the planning early on, Aisling Glynn of ACKtivities took over a month before the wedding and handled every detail magnificently, ensuring that everything ran smoothly so that we were able to completely enjoy the day.  And a special thank you to Cary Hazlegrove, who not only took the most stunning photographs that we will treasure forever, but who was there to remind me to breathe, and whose positive energy and cheerful personality made a perfect day even better.

From Experience EventsLove this modern take on a rustic barn wedding! The bride came to coordinator Jessica Herberger of Experience Events looking for a venue with warmth and character that could host a weekend of activities for her wedding.  After touring Gedney Farm and the sister property Mepal Manor they knew it was the perfect backdrop for the clean, modern look they had in mind.  The wedding weekend was capped off with this beautiful wedding.  The ceremony took place in front of a drop dead gorgeous tree on the property.  The timing of the ceremony was set to make the most of the beautiful afternoon light peeking through the surrounding mountains.  The wedding then progressed down the street to the barn at Gedney.  Cocktails outside in the garden were followed by a beautiful celebration inside.  The tables were decorated with white burlap runners, white modern vessels and lots and lots of green-the result was clean, modern and warm.  All the paper goods were blind embossed to lend itself to the white on white look.

Boston State Room Wedding from Clark+Walker Studio

Oh how I love a girl that knows what she wants. And this Bride knew since she was itty bitty, that she most definitely wanted her big day to shine. So when she fell in love and got engaged to her Boston beau, she started to make those dreams a reality. A gorgeous Watters gown? Check. Cascading florals? Check. A iconic venue (aka The State Room)? Check, check, check. Clark+Walker Studio captured every last gorgeous moment of this dream day, and you can see it all right here.

From the Bride… I have heard many brides say, “I was never one of those girls who has always dreamed of their wedding…”. Well I AM one of those girls and I am not ashamed to say it. I have been dreaming of and planning my wedding since I first saw Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. I always knew I wanted the fluffy white dress, the beautiful flowers, the glamorous cathedral length veil, but the rest of the wedding was all just a little bit fuzzy… until I met Dave.

Dave and I met four and half years ago at Mass General Hospital in Boston. He was working in Human Resources and I was attending Boston University and interning in his department for the summer. Being the city where we met and fell in love, Boston holds so many special memories for us. When it came to where we would get married, there was no other choice. We wanted a venue that would highlight the city but still feel intimate and romantic. As soon as we walked into the Great Room at The State Room, all the fuzziness became clear and the wedding planning was on its way.

I wanted a glamorous city wedding that was soft and romantic, but classic and modern at the same time. We chose to stick to black and ivory because they are such classic colors that can still look very modern and updated, and in my opinion, they never get old. But above all, we wanted it to feel very personal. That was one of Dave’s (very few) requirements– he wanted the wedding to feel like us, and he didn’t want to do things or incorporate things just because. He wanted there to be a reason or meaning behind every detail. It could not have come together any better than it did. Everything from our rehearsal dinner venue to our ceremony reading had special, personal meaning to us. We had our rehearsal dinner at Ristorante Fiore in Boston’s North End – the same restaurant where Dave and I had our first date. We were married on November 18th, the same day that my parents and my paternal grandparents were married. During our ceremony, Dave’s Aunt recited the exact same reading that she read at his parent’s wedding 35 years ago. Dave and I wrote the entire ceremony together (taking bits and pieces from Dave’s parents’ wedding ceremony) but then wrote our own vows separately. We had a very close personal friend sing our song (Sam Cooke’s “You Send Me”) as Dave and I had our first dance. Everything about the day was absolutely perfect and pure magic from beginning to end.

As I look back on the day, I cannot think of one single thing I would change or do differently.

Willowdale Estate Wedding from Shannon Grant

Brides in cardigans?  They get me every time.  Every. Single. Time.  As do birdcage veils, gorgeous Watters gowns and smiles that could light up the entire state.  So, this beautiful Topsfield bride, well… I basically think she’s the greatest.  Also the greatest?  Her Willowdale Estate wedding, which is seriously bursting with romance from the wintery setting to the sweet, sweet blooms from Carroll’s Florist to a downright beauty that will leave your head spinning. See every glorious moment captured by Shannon Grant in the full gallery.

From Shannon GrantPhotographing Shannon and Chris’s modern day romance was the absolute perfect ending to the 2012 wedding season. It really could not have been any more my style and it was such a DREAM to photograph that I’m still pinching myself to remind me this is real life. Really gorgeous real life.

The details were so lovingly chosen by the couple that I had a field day photographing them! A vintage hat box from Sak’s Fifth Avenue housed Shannon’s birdcage veil, the bridesmaids’ unconventional outfits, and the dessert spreads at the end of the night were some of my favorites!

There are some couples who are surrounded by so much love that it can steal your breath away. This whole day consisted of moments like this. From the impromptu “Bridal Boudoir” session to their son tearing up during his father’s vows and many, MANY moments in between, I found myself so caught up in their day that the time flew by. Before I knew it, they were ripping up the dance floor and I was packing up to go home.

From the Bride… The goal was for everyone around us to see and feel the love between us. I had envisioned romance and simple elegance from the beginning. It was important that the wedding completely represent us as a couple. We love to cook and entertain our family and close friends during holidays. I always put on quite a spread that leaves people talking. We wanted to give them the same feeling on our wedding day… but even more so.

I would say our vows truly represent our journey and how we feel. The roads we traveled to get to this destination have been bumpy with sharp turns and dead ends. The whole wedding itself was a representation of us: classic, vintage, elegant – full of love and fun!

From the Bride…  Mark and I began dating our sophomore year of high school. We didn’t know it at the time but, ten years later we would be engaged and two years after that, we would be married!

When I was a child, my family took a vacation to Cape Cod almost every summer. I grew up being known as the “summer baby” and always had a special place in my heart for the Cape and the ocean. Throughout our many years of dating, Mark and I came to fall in love with the Cape’s quaint New England charm and it’s simplicity. As we began to spend summer weekends and 4th of July’s on the Cape, we started to envision our own family vacations spent by the seaside. We knew early on that we wanted to have a Cape Cod wedding.

Having grown up together, the bond Mark and I share with each other has been strengthened and nurtured by the love of our amazing family and friends. We knew that they would all be an integral part of our wedding day and could not have envisioned beginning our lives together without them by our side. We were blessed to have our families and childhood friends celebrate our wedding on the Cape throughout the entire week of July 4th!

Mark and I fell in love with Wychmere Harbor Club (while it was under construction) and after one meeting with our Priest, knew we had found the perfect venues to celebrate our nuptials. Having a two-year engagement allowed us to take our time preparing for our day and gave us the opportunity to focus our attention to details (my favorite part of wedding planning). Mark and I spent many weekends driving out to the Cape from Boston getting to know the community, our Priest, wedding coordinator, photographer, DJ… even the local waiter at our favorite restaurant!

My childhood friend and I created the design for our invitations and our personalized “printables”. My mother wrote out all of the calligraphy for our envelopes along with each place card. This was something I had looked forward to since I was a little girl. My Godmother (who is also my aunt) arranged all of our bouquets and boutonnieres. The love that was poured into our wedding flowers was one of the most beautiful gifts we received! Mark and I decided to name our tables after different places, special moments and important people in our lives. We wrote little stories for each table to express the meaning behind each name. For one of our favors, we gave our guests hand-tied “Love Knot” bracelets which were tied around each place card and included a special note with the meaning of the knot on the back. My cousin hand-made my garter, which included antique buttons – a surprise to me at my bridal shower. Mark and I had a wedding bell blessed and worked with our priest to include this in our ceremony. The wedding bell represents Mark’s Scottish heritage as well as my Irish heritage and when rung, celebrates new beginnings and joyful times in our family, as well as the end to any discourse. Since we began dating when we were both 15, we found it only fitting to enter our reception dancing, singing, and laughing to Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”. We felt that all of these details helped shape and connect us to our day, truly making it our own.

When the day came for us to finally say, “I do”, we woke up to clear blue skies. Mark and I had decided to write each other letters and exchange gifts the morning of the wedding, as we did not see each other until I walked down the aisle. To my surprise, I opened a honeymoon itinerary to Paris, Capri, and London! As the day unfolded, everything fell into place. We ended our night with a beach bonfire complete with country music and s’mores as we continued to dance the night away.

We are thankful not only to each other, our friends, and our families, but also the amazing Cape Cod community. Our Priest, Reverend Brian McGurk performed the most beautiful marriage ceremony. Our wedding coordinator, Karen Rood from Wychmere Harbor Club ensured that no detail went unnoticed. I am still amazed at Armor and Martel’s ability to capture every single detail of our day exactly as we remember it. We were honored to have worked with such wonderful people who helped make our wedding day everything we envisioned and more.

Mark and I could not have asked for a more perfect way to start the rest of our lives together. Our wedding day was truly, a (teenage) dream come true!

Martha’s Vineyard Wedding from Jocelyn Filley

Martha’s Vineyard is nothing short of magical. A pretty little island just a hop, skip and a jump away from Boston, but worlds away in so many ways. Which makes it an oh-so-lovely place to say I do. These two newlyweds said I do alright, and they did so in seriously style. With a color palette perfect for a September wedding on the island, pretty little details everywhere you turn and a Groom that ended the evening with a sweet serenade – this wedding is just everything. See it all here.

From the Bride… We wanted our wedding to be a celebration of all of the things that we love; namely family, music and the outdoors. We have been fortunate to spend a lot of time on the Vineyard, so having our wedding there was an easy decision. The Captain Flanders House was the first and only venue we visited; we immediately loved the rustic, natural beauty of the property and the simple charm of the house and cottages.

Although we quickly learned that having a wedding at an informal venue requires a lot of coordination, we were able to pull off a fantastic day with the help of our amazing vendors and the assistance of family and friends. Nick and I created table numbers and signs for the property, a family friend hand-calligraphed our envelopes and seating cards. My mother-in-law made koufeta (traditional Greek favors), and one of my girlfriends helped tie hundreds of twine bows on our programs and the shawls that also served as favors. I also cannot say enough about our vendors; we consider ourselves very fortunate to have worked with such talented and genuinely nice people.

We had 100 guests travel to the Vineyard to take part in our September wedding. The gorgeous weather enabled us to have the ceremony and cocktail hour outside, with the reception held under a beautiful tent. We kept the décor minimal, using mostly natural elements like weathered shingles, moss and twine, accented with bursts of orange in the flowers and bridal party’s attire.

One of the best decisions we made was to take “first-look” photos before the ceremony. Capturing our reactions upon seeing each other for the first time was very special. Since we also had our family photos taken early in the day, we were able to sneak away during the cocktail hour to take some beautiful shots at Menemsha Harbor. I am still amazed at how our photographer, Jocelyn Filley, captured all of these moments precisely as I remember them!

In a nod to Nick’s Greek heritage, we used the stefena (crowns) from his parents wedding ceremony and attempted a couple of traditional Greek dances during the reception. The Irish Wedding Blessing as one of our readings represented my Irish roots.

Although we had a fabulous DJ lined up, we also wanted to incorporate live music into the ceremony and cocktail hour. Our wedding coordinator recommended Ballywhoo, a fantastic bluegrass band. We had them “play their way” in after the guests had been seated. The look of surprise on our guests faces as the musicians came down the hill and over toward the ceremony was incredible.

The highlight of the day was when Nick surprised me by performing a song, which he had written, on his guitar during the reception. I am not one to cry easily, but this thoughtful gesture moved me to tears. The evening ended just as we had hoped; surrounded by friends and family dancing like maniacs… We treasure the beautiful photos and video we have to remind us of this fabulous day!

From the bride…Gabe and I met on a beach one summer while we were in college, quite a few years before we ended up together. One of our mutual good friends introduced us. There was an obvious, instant attraction event though we both played it cool with each other. We ran into each other at various points over the years until one special summer, we decided to go for it and have never been happier. Part of the reason I love Gabe so much is that we truly enjoy every moment we are together. We are best friends, make each other laugh, and are always looking for the next adventure together, big or small. Gabe has been a constant source of strength and inspiration for me and I feel blessed to have found someone so perfect for me. We are so excited to embark on this new adventure of marriage together!

My wedding location was my one non-negotiable. The Sharksmouth Estate is a beautiful retreat in my hometown. My father has been playing tennis at the estate for years which made the location that much more special and meaningful. I love the character and quirkiness of the house and property and was inspired to dive into all of the details surrounding the big day. I knew I wanted a whimsical, romantic old-school Hollywood feel. I wanted lots of bright, vibrant flowers and colors as well as candles everywhere to really bring the evening to life and make it feel like that much more of a beautiful celebration.

When I finally found my dress, which was nothing like what I had envisioned,  I was really able to fill in the details. I chose charcoal for the bridemaids and groomsmen so the flower colors would really pop against them. I wanted the evening to feel warm and intimate even though I was set on having the reception outside. I suggested that my dad build an arbor over the head table and he really outdid himself by creating a gorgeous canopy, complete with a chandelier, that felt like a magical fairy canopy. Lastly, our friends who did the catering, helped us hand pick the menu, drink selection and brought the rooms to life with their design detail and touches.

There were many DIY elements of the wedding. It was important to Gabe and myself that we involve as many friends and family into the wedding plans and preparations as possible to make it that much more meaningful. Gabe’s sister and band mates sang during the ceremony, my dad created the arbor over the head table, Gabe and I wrote our own vows and our dear friend officiated the ceremony. My cousins, father and myself wrote out and put together all wedding invitations and numerous family members and friends were involved in preparing the house for the big day, from stringing lights to potting plants to go around the grounds.

The favorite part of the wedding for both Gabe and myself was having all of our closest and dearest friends and family members present for not only the big day, but the whole weekend. There was such a feeling of warmth and love the whole wedding weekend and it was an amazing feeling to have everyone we care about be able to to celebrate with us and be genuinely happy and excited for the two of us. Without a doubt, the best day of our lives!

It’s safe to say that meeting your future Mr. or Mrs. is one of the greatest moments of your life.  And meeting your soulmate in elementary school?  That’s what we call a fairytale beginning.  And that’s exactly the case these two sweeties, who met in second grade (!) and filled their wedding with the cutest touches ever as an ode to their childhood beginning.  (Think chalkboard venue directions and childhood books as table numbers.)  And the rest of their wedding held at the breathtaking Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline?  Absolutely gorgeous with fab florals from Derby Farms, a chicken and waffle nightcap and amazing images from Ashley O’Dell Photography.  See them all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Ned and I are both very close to our parents and siblings and wanted the day to be about family. The lyrics, “home is wherever I’m with you” from one of our favorite songs became the theme to our day.

The week leading up to the wedding was a special time for us as we worked together to complete the personal touches for our wedding. We first met in second grade and wanted to highlight our story in the details of the day. Ned hand-painted venue directions on chalkboards, a nod to our history as children together. I gathered favorite children’s books that we used as table numbers. Our guests signed the books during the reception. This way we will be able to share the memories from our wedding with our growing family.

We fell in love with Larz Anderson Park and Museum right away. For months we worried that our outdoor ceremony would be ruined by rain. We didn’t think to worry about a heat wave. One of Ned’s greatest acts of love was standing in 95 degrees heat, in the direct sun, in a tuxedo! Our guests stayed cheerful throughout, staying cool during cocktail hour sipping Stoli Dolis made by the groom.

My favorite moment of the day was right after the ceremony as we walked away from our guests and into the park. Alone with my new husband, it was the first time I had felt calm in weeks. Moments later we were surrounded by our parents and siblings and the celebration began. After what felt like minutes, our late-night snack of chicken and waffles was served, we swayed to our last dance, and our guests waved flags as we were whisked away.

We look forward to going back to Larz Anderson Park in the years to come to make more memories with our family.

Peabody Wedding at Brooksby Farm from Katie Pietrowski Photography

You know what I absolutely adore?  Barn weddings.  And you know what I adore more than that?  Barn weddings filled to the brim with perfectly imperfect florals, vibrant colors and rustic details aplenty.  So, you can imagine the pure joy I was feeling when I came across all of the lovely happening in this sweet Peabody soiree captured by Katie Pietrowski Photography, which just so happens to be boasting all of the above, plus some beyond fabulous DIY details, burlap touches and a too-cute-for-words bride and groom. See it all right here.

From the Bride… Tanner and I are both laid back people, and wanted our wedding to feel fun and relaxed. I knew that I wanted a barn reception, and once I found Smith Barn, I knew immediately it was the place we were meant to get married. We wanted the wedding to be full of personal touches and really make it our own. We decided to write our own ceremony, and have a close family friend officiate. We chose an acoustic guitar player to perform the ceremony music, which really made everything come together, and gave it the intimate rustic feel we wanted.

I had a lot of fun planning the wedding, and couldn’t have done it without my mom or my Maid of Honor. My mom, a former president of our local garden club, put together all of the centerpieces and the look of the tables. My Maid of Honor and I worked out all of the mason jars for table numbers, and I decided on the skeleton keys as a fun way to do seating cards.

While we were planning, dessert was one of the largest debates, since I’m not a big fan of frosting. We ended up meeting in the middle and having both a traditional wedding cake as well as apple pie for guests to choose from.  Smith Barn was a wonderful place for the reception, and we decided to hang lanterns over the dance floor, as well as both a Canadian and an American flag to represent our families coming together. From the outdoor ceremony, to photos in the orchard, to dancing in the barn under the twinkle lights, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate our marriage.

New England Woodsy Engagement Session from Rachel Red Photography

One look at this New England-inspired shoot from Rachel Red Photography, and I can tell you one thing. I can’t wait to see this couple’s wedding. Why you ask? Well, for one they couldn’t be more adorable if they tried (puppy included), and two, anyone that tells their photographer they want a shoot that’s “Lumberjack meets Mumford and Sons meets Urban Outfitters” basically can do no wrong in my book. And I think they are in good standing with your book too. Need more proof? Just take one look at this gallery. It’s basically New England perfection. See it all here.

From Rachel Barker of Rachel Red Photography… Paige and Justin are oh so in love! They wanted to do a shoot with a woodsy, New England feel but with a twist. Lumberjack meets Mumford and Sons meets Urban Outfitters if you will. We met in a beautiful rock quarry at sunrise on a crisp New England morning and photographed what this young couple would want their wedding to feel like. Natural wood, accents of red, and texture everywhere.

Nantucket Wedding from Soiree Floral + LifeFusion Studios

As you know, we always rave about the personal touches that our couples infuse into their weddings… and today’s feature has some really unique touches. When choosing a wedding venue, they fell in love with Nantucket – and all the details ended up in a day filled with love and laughter and a party-all-night vibe. The invites from East Six coordinated beautifully with the floral design from Soirée Floral. The bridesmaids’ Jenny Yoo dresses set the stage for the bride’s elegant Lhuillier wedding gown. The sand ceremony, the on-site artist, the personalized-custom ceremony (written completely by the bride and groom) and the river rocks collected lovingly by the bride’s mom – all set the tone for this love-til-you-drop celebration at The Galley. Captured brilliantly by LifeFusion Studios, this outdoor-beachside wedding will inspire and delight! See more in the full gallery right here.

From the Bride…We knew we wanted to pick a location that would bring our friends and family together for a weekend. After looking at a few options on the Cape and Vineyard, we took a ferry ride to Nantucket with my parents on a crisp day in January. Words can hardly describe the feeling that instantly hits you when you arrive on Nantucket – it is the coolest combination of calm, fun and freedom. When we stepped off the ferry and onto the cobblestones that day, Stephen and I both instantly knew without a doubt that Nantucket was where we were going to get married. The same feeling fell over us when we visited the Galley. Although the restaurant was boarded up, the furniture was covered and the sand was piled halfway up the outside of the building, we knew it was the perfect setting for our wedding – classy but laid back, privately situated on the beach and known to have really, really excellent food. The Galley, with its chic outdoor lounge furniture, cool inside décor, open airy feel, amazing staff, tasty signature beverages and superb food far exceeded our very high expectations.

Many people choose to get married on Nantucket because they grew up on the island. Even though we had spent some time on Nantucket together, relatively speaking we made this choice as “Nantucket newbies” but that was one of the incredible bonuses – as part of planning our wedding, we had the chance to really get to know and fall in love with Nantucket for its beauty, beaches, people, food and so much more. We feel so connected to Nantucket now and know it will always be a part of our lives.

Planning our wedding was much harder than I thought it would be, mostly because it became quickly apparent that I have a very, very hard time making decisions. But as the planning process went on, I slowly started to learn (thanks to the incredible support of my fiancé, my parents, my sister/matron of honor and my incredible bridesmaids) to trust my gut, believe in our vision, and keep focused on what was most important: planning an intimate and fun event to celebrate our marriage with our family and closest friends. I cannot say enough about how much our wedding planner Maureen Maher did for us. She made the process unbelievably simple and stress free – she kept us on track with decisions, gave us honest feedback, coordinated meetings with hard-to-nail down vendors and seamlessly planned the flow and sequence of our event.

We wanted our wedding to evoke simple, romantic elegance and compliment the gorgeous natural backdrop of Nantucket. Our color palette was blush, ivory, and a “not quite navy” blue. Our wedding planner Maureen Maher and florist Dawn Kelly helped us bring this vision to life. Our invitations from East Six helped set the tone for our vision – a pocket fold invitation with tone-on-tone ivory flowers accented with a beautiful silver satin ribbon. They were so beautiful and we received many compliments on them. My bouquet and my bridesmaids’ bouquets were soft and beautiful with blush garden roses, calla lilies and hydrangea – a perfect compliment to the setting and the bridesmaids’ “capri” colored Jenny Yoo dresses.

We had our ceremony on the beach with the waves crashing just feet away from us. We wanted a very soft and intimate feel for the ceremony. The aisle was lined with white orchids in galvanized buckets and flowing white curtains on bamboo framed the altar. Smaller galvanized buckets with petals for tossing hung from aisle chairs. We added a pop of color to the setting with baskets placed at the start of the aisles filled with turquoise blue throw blankets rolled up with twine for guests to use in case they were chilly.

Our reception was held in a tent on the beach outside of Galley Beach, the most spectacular place in the world. We were inspired by a “Grey Lady” tablescape photo shoot that floral designer Dawn Kelly had collaborated on last year and we pulled several elements from that for our décor – including light grey table cloths, crisp white plates, beautiful orchids and a splash of blue on the tables.

Dawn complimented this with absolutely stunning floral arrangements… three different “looks” graced the tops of the square and round guest tables including different combinations of white orchids and calla lilies accented by candles, twine and river rocks. The long head table had a gorgeous collection of flowing pink orchids and candles. The tent was accented with playful string lights, white paper hanging stars and vintage marquee rusted “LOVE” letters that we bought from a vendor on ETSY to hang in the tent (and later served as a focal point for our afterparty).

Stephen and I are huge foodies and didn’t want the typical surf and turf wedding fare, which is one of the reasons we selected the Galley. During the cocktail hour, freshly shucked oysters at a raw bar and delicious passed apps including escargot in puffed pastry and lamb chops. Our dinner menu included a warm crab cake starter and a choice of scallops with a vanilla bean sauce or the Galley’s signature veal chop for the main course. The entire room’s plates were clean at the end of the meal! Our cake by Jodi’s Cakes was not only delicious (not one slice remained!) but beautifully tied into our overall feel with simple silver ribbons tied around each tier.

Making sure our friends and family had fun was really important to us and our choices for music reflected that. We had an excellent laid-back artist from the Cape, John Beninghoff, playing acoustic guitar on the beach for the ceremony and through the cocktail hour. And our band, Joe Bachman & the Crew, who I would describe as not your average wedding band, absolutely rocked the house. A highlight of the night was a full-house sing/scream/jump along to Nirvana’s Teen Spirit. (Everyone including our fathers were hopping three feet off the dance floor.)

It was really important to have sentimental and personal touches throughout our day. To name a few…

We wrote and selected our entire wedding ceremony ourselves and my life long friend Avery, who was also one of my bridesmaids, officiated and married us so it was extremely personal. Putting the ceremony together took a lot of time and hard work but it was absolutely worth it as every word had incredible meaning – from the heartfelt personal introduction by Avery to our vows. The readings also had significance with one being a passage called “Time with You” from a newspaper clipping that we found in an anniversary card that my grandfather had given to my grandmother on their first wedding anniversary.

We incorporated a Sand Ceremony to represent the joining of our families. For this, we collected sand from beaches in different geographies that had meaning including where we live now, where I grew up, where Stephen’s parents fell in love and, of course, Nantucket. During the ceremony our families combined the various containers of sand into a large glass globe that we had made by the Sandwich Glass Studio on Cape Cod. A “Stephen & Ryan’s Wedding” welcome sign was made by our Jr. bridesmaid and Ring Bearer (with help from their mom and dad) and was placed outside the Galley to greet our guests.

For something old and new, I had a custom bridal cuff made by genius jewelry designer Courtney Prince of Doloris Petunia. I sent her pieces of my grandmothers’ jewelry and she incorporated them into the design with the clasp being from a bracelet that was my paternal grandmothers and a deconstructed brooch from my maternal grandmother accenting the overall cuff. It looked spectacular and was incredibly special as neither of my grandmothers were at our wedding. I also had a cuff made for my mother that featured a large green stone from a pendant of her mothers. My bridesmaids’ gifts, jeweled Nantucket rope bracelets, and my headpiece were also designed and made by Doloris Petunia.

For our table seating cards, we tied twine around river rocks that were collected one-by-one with much love by my mother on the beaches of Cape Cod. For our guestbook, we really wanted something that would always remind us of Nantucket and so we had guests sign a poster-sized, vintage map of Nantucket that we now have framed and hung on our wall at home.

For some fun, we had temporary star tattoos made up (that matched the matching permanent tattoos Stephen and I have on our wrists) and handed them out to guests at the rehearsal dinner so nearly every guest donned a star on their wrist at the wedding the next day!

And last but not least, Stephen surprised me by bringing artist and friend Odin Smith to Nantucket to paint two canvases that captured the beautiful beach setting where we were married. Odin took actual sand from the exact spot where we were married and pressed it into the paintings.

Waltham Wedding at Gore Place from Lara Callahan

Sometimes all it takes is just one picture, one fabulously captured moment and you just know a wedding is going to be amazing.  And that fabulously captured moment in this gorgeous Waltham wedding?  For me, it was the oh-so-perfect image of a VERY happy bridal party dancing down the aisle towards the breathtaking ceremony.  It’s awesome.  As is every last moment of this sweet Gore Place affair from Lara Callahan, with its pretty, pretty blooms by Whole Foods and sweet Melissa Sweet masterpiece.  See it all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… We had a pretty intimate Autumn wedding (139 guests) that was both budget friendly (around $20,000 total) and DIY. Everything was held on the same property, Gore Place. The ceremony was in an open field and we were married under a large tree.

My step-grandfather married us. We met because of him. When I decided to move to Boston from Florida over six years ago, my grandfather urged me to stay with his cousin’s family–Cathy and Pip Higgins. Despite my hesitations, I stayed with them while I interviewed for jobs. After accepting a position in Boston, the Higgins insisted I lived with them until I got to know the city better (who does that?). The rainy night I moved here, their daughter Peggy picked me up from the airport and their son Teddy took my luggage. And six years later…Teddy’s my husband! The funny thing is, he told all of his friends that “his cousin” was moving up to Boston. Hence the word bubble “Way to keep it in the family.”

The cocktail hour was in a hedge garden just around the corner from the field and it was if the bushes were walls– an outdoor room with no roof. During the cocktail hour we served a signature cocktail named by me, “The Appley Ever After” (apple flavored vodka and buttershots), and signature beers. The reception was held in a large white tent with a dance floor and a carpeted floor steps from the hedge garden.

The lighting was very important to me. I loved the paper lanterns hovering over the dance floor. The blue uplighting made transformed the tent into a party atmosphere. At each table, we placed a whiteboard in the shape of a word bubble. Originally, written on them was the table number and instructions to “Erase this and write whatever you want on me!” There were some very funny/sweet notes. Our guests had a great time using them.

The bracelets were my “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”. They meant so much to me. Each piece of jewelry resembled the woman who allowed me to borrow it. For instance, my little sister chose a green bracelet with turtles to represent her young and quirky nature. My older sister let me borrow the watch her husband gave her on the day of her wedding just a year earlier than mine. I could look at my wrist and see each woman in my life. It became an impromptu ceremony as they took turns placing their bracelets on my wrists, one by one. This was one of my favorite moments of the day.

New England Wedding at Hotel Marlowe from EFD Creative

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again…. your venue is the foundation for your big day. So when this couple came across Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge they knew it was the perfect stage for their travel-inspired celebration. Brought to us by the talented EFD Creative this romantic New England affair is filled with darling details (hellllooo hot air balloon invites!!!) and warm florals. It’s a journey that is best told by the beautiful images from LifeFusion Studio so join us right here in the gallery to explore even more.

From EFD Creative…Veronica and Greg are world travelers and wanted to bring those experiences to their wedding. Finding Hotel Marlowe was a perfect pick for the venue. The interior of the hotel and ballroom is designed with a modern eclectic feel with a whimsy of travel in the decor — compasses and world maps are part of the everyday decor… a perfect match.

We wanted to work with the hotel design and bring in Veronica and Greg’s travel elements. Place cards, menus and programs all had the travel theme with luggage, compasses, hot air balloons and more. The table names were of locations they visited world wide that had meaning for them. The cake design picked up on the patterns of the room, diamond shapes and criss crosses. Everything just came together!

From the Bride… Greg loves modern, minimalist styles and I am all about popping colors and antiques. Thank God we found Edna from EFD Creative! She had this incredible spark and managed to help us find a common vision for our special day, while putting together an amazing team of vendors. I am from three different countries and travel often. Moving has been a common pattern throughout my life. In the past three years, Greg and I have lived in 3 different states, and traveled to many new places. The theme of exploration and travel was just a natural one for both of us, and particularly fitting since most of our guests were coming from out of the country. The Marlowe Hotel in Cambridge was the perfect venue for us, as it combined the quirkiness I was looking for, with the more elegant and sophisticated concept that Greg wanted.

Our wedding was a labor of love; it was an incredibly special day, which was really a reflection of who we are. The crowd was quite eclectic with a mix of American, European and South American guests, and Joe Toto from Groove Events threw a fantastic dancing party that had even my grandmother dancing until the end!

What we will cherish forever is remembering how happy our friends and family were that day celebrating with us. Marina and Yi from LifeFusion Photography captured all those special looks, that tenderness and the love that was around. They did such a fantastic job that we want to print all the pictures they took! Melissa and Tom from Long Haul Films were quite incredible – I looked at the trailer of our wedding and it just made me cry. Those are memories that will stay with us forever. Edna is an amazing planner and a true friend. She put together a fantastic team of vendors who were not only super professional, but really great people. That was the best day of our lives!

Seaside Engagement Session from Kelly Dillon Photography

Love stories never fail to make me weak in the knees, but when they happen to someone like this gorgeous (ok, seriously gorgeous) Bride-to-be, that’s when I thank my lucky stars my job is to share it all with you. I’ve actually personally known this beauty for some time, and to see that she found her (very dashing) prince charming makes me all giddy inside. The best part? Even if you don’t know this duo, you can see just how much they adore each other in each and every beautiful image from Kelly Dillon Photography, and how can you not love that? See so much more of this adorable couple right here.

From Kelly Dillon PhotographyBrianne and Rick grew up in North Andover, Massachusetts, less than two miles apart, but they would have to wait two decades before fate brought them together. A shared childhood friend, bridesmaid Sarah Graham, connected the pair in the fall of 2011 and when their first phone call lasted over two hours, they both knew – right away – that they had found someone special.

On a Friday night not unlike any other, Brianne finished up work under the presumption she would be meeting Rick for dinner along with some friends visiting from out of town. Instead, he showed up at her office with news that it was time to go to the airport. In disbelief, she was escorted to a car waiting downstairs and whisked away on a flight to Florida. When they landed that evening, Rick took her to the Polynesian Resort on the grounds of Walt Disney World (a place they both loved growing up and still frequent to this day), where they found a lone hammock overlooking the water. He popped the question, and the two were betrothed!

Botanic Garden Wedding from Wildflower Photography

If you love blooms like we do (and I have a sneaking suspicion you are equally obsessed), then you’ll need to favorite this next fête for sure. It’s feast of gorgeous florals from Bostonian Florist surrounding a love-filled wedding at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden which we get to enjoy thanks to Wildflower Photography. Long story short, it’s image after image of gorgeous – and it can all be found right here.

From Wildflower Photography… Jessie and Chris had a lovely rustic wedding at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, MA, and despite a few raindrops, this couple took the weather with stride! Their ceremony was held in the light-filled Limonaia building, and with an arched glass ceiling, it had us wishing that every indoor ceremony we photographed looked as magical as this one! These two really personalized their ceremony, with hand-written vows and passages by Kahlil Gibran and the Velveteen Rabbit, it was such a true representation of Jessie and Chris.

From the Bride… For me, the best part of our wedding was a tie between reading our very personal, sightly humorous handwritten vows to each other, and the reception… which was basically one giant party! One of my favorite reception moments was when two of our friends serenaded us with a special wedding day song that they had written together. It was hilarious and a total surprise! My advice to couples in the midst of wedding-planning is that throughout the wedding ceremony and reception, make sure to take a moment here and there to pull each other aside and soak up the moment. The wedding day goes by SO quickly… it’s really nice to take a moment to say, ‘Wow’, and realize what an awesome day it is!

Great Barrington Wedding at Gedney Farm from Eric Limon

If you’ve spent your entire life dreaming of a beautiful barn wedding (read: this stunning bride), then it makes perfect sense to tie the knot at Gedney Farm, a piece of rustic paradise located in New Marlborough that also happens to host some amazingly gorgeous barn affairs.  Barn affairs like this sparkling gem of a day snapped up by Eric Limon, which is proudly boasting a stop-you-in-your-tracks ceremony, bright yellow blooms from Gillooly Design and acres upon acres of breathtaking scenery. See it all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… We planned a weekend wedding at Gedney Farm with 40 guests staying on site with us, all other guests were 20 minutes away in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. I have always wanted to get married in a barn and grew up outside of Boston, while David went to summer camp in Pittsfield, MA. We both wanted an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour to embrace the beauty of the Berkshires in the summer.

The morning and afternoon of the wedding guests gathered to play yard games and enjoy being together outside. The ceremony began at 5pm with my brother, a chemistry teacher, officiating the Christian/Jewish ceremony. The ceremony took place in a grassy knoll a short walk from the farm. Cocktails followed the reception outside the barn in a beautiful yard with an acoustical guitar player. Dinner and dancing took place in the barn.

All the flowers were intended to look like a summer meadow and were displayed in various containers, jars, and cheeseboxes. My bouquet consisted of white peonies wrapped in my late father’s necktie. Each table had a small guest book for words of congratulations and advice. The kids table overflowed with crayons, playdough, and custom coloring books featuring the bride and groom. The meal was seasonal and local.

Beautiful Ballroom Boston Wedding at State Room

If you’ve ever had the chance to attend an event at The State Room in the evening, when you can see all the lights of Boston twinkle over the city, you know it’s nothing short of magic. It’s an evening that should be on every Bostonian’s must do list, and this lovely couple hosted just such a night for their guests. With the beyond talented lovelies at TRUE Event on board to make that gorgeous space even more gorgeous, and Bruce Plotkin Photography on board to capture all the magic of the evening, it’s safe to say this gallery is one stunning place to be. See it all here.

From the Bride… We knew that we wanted our wedding to be a big party with a lot of dancing. I grew up in the Boston area, and after exploring a number of venues, we decided that The State Room, with its huge space and amazing views of Boston Harbor, would be the perfect backdrop for us to dance the night away. We also knew that we wanted entertainment that was going to blow our guests away and keep them on the dance floor, so quickly booked Beantown Band, arguably one of the best bands in the Northeast.

Despite having a city wedding in a relatively modern venue, we wanted to incorporate a lot of texture and rustic elements into the décor to reflect our love of the outdoors. Deciding on our various vendors who could help make that a reality was perhaps the most fun part of the wedding, and we definitely ended up with a dream team. Having seen her in action at my best friend’s wedding a year earlier, I quickly enlisted the help of Sarah True of TRUE Event. Sarah was such an important part of the planning process, and she and her second in command, Caitlin, made me feel completely at ease on the day of. Semia Dunne of Flowers by Semia was unbelievable to work with – from our first meeting, she instantly understood my vision and incorporated so many lovely hues, textures and dimension into our floral arrangements and décor. And the wonderful team at Paper Moss worked with our calligrapher, Kristen Henderson, to create a timeless and whimsical letterpress invitation suite with painted gold edges. It perfectly set the tone for our big day!

Event planning is a hidden passion of mine and I wanted to be very hands-on throughout the design process, which included a number of DIY projects with the help of various wedding blogs and a slew of vendors from Etsy. Perhaps my favorite project was creating the concept for our escort card table, in which our tea-stained cards were displayed on vintage tin ceiling tiles using magnets made from antique filaments. I was speechless when I saw the final product!

On December 1, 2012, we awoke to find a soft snow dusting the streets of Boston – a perfect backdrop for our big day! I couldn’t have been calmer and had so much fun getting ready with my bridesmaids with Lindsay Griffin taking care of hair and Zoe Markos doing our makeup. Patrick and I did a “first look” before the ceremony, which I would highly recommend – not only do you get to spend your first few minutes with just each other, soaking in the moment, but you also get all your pictures out of the way and get to enjoy your cocktail hour! Our ceremony, which occurred right at sunset, was short but personal and the hundreds of candles that Semia flooded down the aisle created the perfect intimate ambiance. When the festivities started, both of us remarked at how unbelievable it was for us to exchange vows amongst so many of our family and friends. With Beantown providing the entertainment, it was hard for anyone to leave the dance floor, and the whole evening ran perfectly with the help of not only Sarah and Caitlin, but also the fabulous Carrie Scott and her team at The State Room. And everything was captured perfectly by Bruce Plotkin Photography so that we will remember the celebration forever! Our wedding day was everything we could have hoped for, and we’re so thankful for the important people who helped make it possible.
