Elegant Summer Wedding at Crane Estate

With a fiancé from the North Shore, I’m one of the lucky ones who knows just how gorgeous that area is. And at Crane Estate, overlooking the shining sea, it’s a bride-to-be’s dream. This elegant affair was the perfect match for the stunning Estate and Jillian Mitchell was there to snap up every detail of the day. Join me in the full gallery and good luck not falling in love with every inch of this beauty.

From Jillian Mitchell… Andrea (Fifi) and Patrick knew that they wanted to throw a bash full of grandeur and it was nothing short of that when they decided on the insanely beautiful Crane Estate in Ipswich, MA. It’s now a state park, but for years was a mansion of the rich and famous with parties thrown every weekend.

From the Bride… The Crane Estate is a place we visit often to take in the most beautiful views the North Shore has to offer. We will bring our children there on our anniversary and show them how for one day we were Royalty. Since the ocean is such a large part of who we are the simple white and beachy theme was a no-brainer and I think it kept the day light and fun. The details of the twine and whale napkin rings, sand dollar bracelets on the girls, little pops of peach roses sprinkled below the massive white hydrangea, and candle light everywhere all came together exactly as I had pictured it months before.

Coral and Navy Waterfront Wedding

Marriage represents a beautiful union and this waterfront wedding is a perfect example. The bride and groom brought their different religious upbringings together, creating a unique ceremony, all taking place underneath a chuppah crafted by the groom himself. Rachel Red Photography captured every special moment, all ready to inspire us right here.

From The Groom… Having spent the last ten years in Boston, we wanted to pick a venue that was unique and would put the city on display. We both went to college here and then met at work. A lot of the planning for the wedding weekend was centered around making it fun and easy for the guests, most of whom would be coming from out of town. Given the space at the ECC, we were even able to hire two babysitters to watch children upstairs during the reception so that parents could have fun downstairs.

The overall vibe we were going for was simple/down-to-earth – we weren’t trying to overwhelm the senses or be something that we’re not on the other days of the year (one of the reasons I opted to wear a suit and bow tie rather than a tux). Flowers and centerpieces were purposefully kept low to allow guests to interact with each other across the table. Even though we were on the water, we didn’t want to have a nautical theme – we settled more on of a preppy color scheme.

With all that we did to make it fun for the guests, we didn’t necessarily realize how much we did to make it special for ourselves until the actual ceremony started. We designed our own ceremony that incorporated the faiths of both of our families – Jewish and Episcopal – and had my cousin officiate as a Justice of the Peace. I designed and built the chuppah with the help of my dad as a symbolic gesture of our future home.

Shades of Green Wedding Inspiration

It’s no little secret blush pink has reigned queen of wedding color palettes for the past few seasons. And as much as I adore that soft, pretty shade, miss Lauren Wells is showing up how to step outside the box with an unexpected hue that just might rock your world: green. It’s perfect for the natural, no-fuss bride and she’s breaking down unique to use it. Snaps from First Mate Photo right here!

From Lauren Wells… We wanted to inspire brides to work with new colors, and came up with a bunch of ideas on how to incorporate forest green into any special event.

Pressed botanical art in glass frames (via Terrain), Hunter boots (if it is going to rain, you can still be adorable!), a statement necklace, greens against a wall as a ceremony or photo backdrop, and of course an all-green, amazing bouquet from Pollen Floral Design are just a few ways to use this gorgeous hue.

One of my favorites is the escort card plant – Anne Robin worked her magic by calligraphing the table number on the pot, and each name on a leaf. You could stack all the pots on one table, with scissors nearby, and people could snip their leaf off and find their seat…particularly perfect for a desert or beach wedding, where guests could use the aloe on sunburns or serve up aloe cocktails. Cheers to new color inspiration!

Modern Chic Cape Cod Wedding

There’s a certain mystic to Cape Cod weddings and this nuptial, captured by Joyelle West, is no exception. Surrounded by pristine beaches and a gently blowing breeze, this modern affair is overflowing with romantic red florals by Allison Phalen and proves that it doesn’t get any more romantic than a day by the sea with the one you love. Modern

From Joyelle WestA fashion-forward couple from New York has a modern and chic spin on a Cape Cod beach wedding. A family home on a beautiful in Cape Cod beach was the setting for this summer wedding. The couple lives in New York City, so their wedding was not a traditional affair, but instead had a sophisticated, modern approach that ended with a giant bonfire on the beach.

From the Bride… Amy OdellRick and I live in NYC but got married at his grandparents’ home on Cape Cod. We looked at a lot of venues but ultimately decided we wanted to have the wedding at a place that felt special (we got engaged on the beach there as well) and would go back to often. Plus, we love that beach and used it throughout the weekend. We had a bonfire after party on the beach with s’mores and invited everyone over the next day for a picnic brunch and beach time.

As for the wedding, we wanted something simple, elegant, chic, modern. The traditional Cape Cod route — salmon/blue/nautical touches — isn’t really my style so we went with a color scheme of red, pink, and burgundy. We also put tons of twinkle lights in the ceiling of the tent and had a black and white dance floor. I was so fixated on nothing being too fussy or over the top that I worried I would regret the floor for looking like “too much” but it actually looked amazing against our flowers and the green grass. We didn’t want to detract from the setting, either — we didn’t have any large, over-the-top floral arrangements or anything like that, but you don’t need it when the place you’re getting married is so pretty!

We did a lot of research to find vendors, with the help of our planner Jamie Bohlin. I have to say planning a home wedding is a ton of work and we could not have done it without her. We spent a long time looking for our amazing photographer (!) and incredible florist and it completely paid off. Our caterer, Casual Gourmet, was also amazing and even ran to the liquor store when we ran out of champagne partway through the wedding.

For bridesmaids dresses, I gave the girls a color (pink) and let them pick out something they liked. I didn’t ask for a certain length or anything. I can’t imaging forcing anyone to spend money on a dress they don’t want just so it can be the same as everyone else’s. Everyone ended up with a different shade of pink, which I expected, but looked fabulous all together.

My dress was by Reem Acra. It was pretty simple except for a bit of asymmetrical lace detailing and a dramatic Grecian back. It also came with a very long veil with a little lace detailing that I was completely obsessed with. My shoes were a bargain buy from ASOS for $80. I needed a thick heel that wouldn’t sink into the grass and they carried an adorable silver pair that I still wear!

My makeup was done by Carly Cardellino, my close friend and the beauty editor of Cosmopolitan.com. She gave me a purple-hued smoky eye and pink lip and really glowing skin, inspired by a look I saw on Diane Kruger. The hair was done by my hair dresser in New York, Travis Speck, who works at Sally Hershberger. I have naturally wavy hair, so he just did a more finished version of it with extensions and lots of humidity-fighting product. I wore my hair down for the ceremony when I had the veil in and then he put it half up when I took the veil off.

Confetti Filled Oceanside Anniversary Session

What better way to celebrate a year of wedded bliss than returning to the oceanside town where it all began? Such was the case with this darling couple, who made sure their paper anniversary included plenty of confetti while Katie Noble was there to capture every lovely snapshot. There are more sweet smiles and sandy toes to celebrate right here.

From The Bride… For our one year anniversary shoot we returned to Rockport, MA—the cute seaside town where we had our wedding last September. As the first big milestone in our marriage, I wanted a celebration that was carefree, colorful and fun. Katie of Katie Noble Photography perfectly captured the energy and excitement that characterizes how we see our lives together. My romantic flower crown and his playful floral bowtie brought an element of whimsy to the evening. I crafted the personalized confetti push pops and a DIY nonpareil cake topper to pick up on the bright colors of our wardrobe. The lighthearted vibe of this sunset shoot was everything I could have imagined. It was a lovely way to revisit the moments of one year ago and dream of all the celebrations ahead.

Elegant Crane Estate Wedding

Ah, the Crane Estate. I may be a bit biased as my fiancé’s parents were married there 36 years ago, but every time a soiree held at this charming venue makes it’s way through our submissions door, I’m filled with delight. It has set the stage for seaside elegance time and again, and this beauty from Jenny Moloney Photography is no exception. View the full gallery right here!

From the beautiful Bride…Rich and I first visited the Crane Estate on a cold, rainy November day, but upon first setting foot on the grounds, I immediately fell in love with the old world romance of the place – from the rolling hills, salt marshes, sweeping ocean views, to the sunken gardens. Wandering the grounds, I remember forgetting where we were for a moment and feeling like I had been swept away to some grand manor in the English countryside. I had always imagined our wedding as an organic, warm, and intimate celebration with our closest family and friends, and this landscape felt like the perfect backdrop. With such beautiful natural surroundings, I was interested in simple, beautiful design that would let the setting speak for itself. I selected an organic color palette, rich in texture, embracing dusty greens, soft creams and blush tones, with a few touches of yellow. Throughout the planning process, we were blessed to work with an amazingly talented and giving team who made our wedding more than I could have ever imagined. Vinwood catered our delicious dinner feast, while Hilary Larson from Eat Cake! crafted the most perfect buttercream vanilla cake and cupcakes. In the months leading up the wedding, my mom collected dozens of antique cake pedestals and vintage English teacups and saucers for our dessert tables. Kerianne Steele from Les Fleur styled our lovely floral arrangements, tying my bouquet with hand-dyed ribbon from Froufrou Chic. Sarah Robins Powell’s delicate and airy calligraphy added that something “extra” to our wedding, and I especially adored the little map she created for our programs. All of these details as well as the fleeting moments of the wedding day were captured purely and intimately by our immeasurably talented photographer, Jenny Moloney, and cinematographer, Chris Koch.

Beacon Hill Engagement Session

I may be a little biased on this one as Beacon Hill is a stone’s throw, but there’s something so cozy and romantic about stomping around the old cobblestone streets of Boston. It gets me every time. And not to mention, the Charles River is a hop, skip and a jump away, and kind of perfect for a few waterfront sunset shots. Janet Moscarello and these two lovebirds took advantage of that sweet Boston romance and I’m so glad they did.

From Janet Moscarello PhotographyAnnmarie + Chris invited me into their hood to document their engagement. We strolled the streets of Beacon Hill, stood on their stoop, made photographs and even recreated their first kiss in the exact same location. They were gracious hosts and tour guides to their streets of Boston.

Stunning Hilltop Wedding at Fruitlands Museum

There is something so effortless, yet so downright beautiful about this wedding that I simply don’t even know where to begin gushing. The gorgeous hilltop views of the Fruitlands Museum are surely breathtaking, the Bride’s sweet style and perfect ringlets are totally envy-worthy and that reception will make your heart sing. But it’s the little looks these two lovebirds share that really stop make me swoon, and thanks to Samantha Melanson we can get lost in all of those sweet moments here.

Rustic

From Samantha Melanson PhotographyI am super excited to share this beautiful Harvard, MA hilltop wedding with you. Nicole and Erik’s heartwarming and gorgeous wedding featured charming rustic details and shades of blush, lavender, fawn and ivory that tied in beautifully with the overall feel of the historic outdoor venue. I think you will especially love the stunning river valley and mountain views from the ceremony site as well as the vintage milk crates, the basil-infused lemonade stand and the assortment of flower vases and hand painted signs. Below is a detailed description of the wedding from Nicole & Erik, the bride and groom.

From The Bride…Erik and I met for the first time the summer after I graduated high school. After spending an afternoon together at the town pool where I was lifeguarding, I ran home and told my mother I had met the man I was going to spend my life with. In hinds sight, I am grateful their was another life guard on duty, because I was overtly preoccupied with the young gentleman next to me. Life took us different paths after that summer, but seven years later I stood before Erik and vowed my love and commitment to him.

With our friends and family joining us from across the country (and the world!) we knew we wanted our wedding to be a unforgettable celebration. Our venue, Fruitlands Museum, was the perfect place for it. Since I was out of state throughout much of the planning process, it was my fiance who visited Fruitlands first. I distinctly remember him calling me and saying “Trust me, you’ll love it”. And right he was. The grounds and view were incredible. When we saw the old oak tree atop the hill of the outdoor ceremony spot, we decided to take the chance of an outdoor wedding in June in New England. Undoubtedly it rained every day the week before our wedding. During our rehearsal we were sloshing through muddy grass but come our wedding day, there was not a cloud in the sky. It was beautiful.

I wanted the flowers and decor to compliment the natural beauty and essence of the venue. Weeks leading up to the wedding, my mother and I collected an assortment of vases, pitchers, and milk crates for the arrangements. Les Fleurs created stunning pieces with a variety of flowers and greenery to create the natural look we were after. I loved how the contrasting textures of the centerpieces came together.

By far my favorite moment was exchanging the vows we had written for one another. I was so overwhelmed by the words my husband used to express his love. There was not a dry eye among us! Another special detail was that the gentleman who sang our first dance song had also sang for my father and mother-in-laws first dance thirty years ago. It was such a generous and unique gift. While the night was a great celebration of our love, I am often reminded it is a thing to be celebrated each day.

Seaside Engagement Session at Crane Beach

Around these parts she’s known as our LBB extraordinaire, but today our dear Melissa – also the voice behind Yours Truly – is sharing a look inside her very own engagement. It’s a day at the sea made for two captured by Rebecca Yale Photography, and the images that follow are unbelievably gorgeous. Read on for the Groom-to-be’s proposal recap, and peek back as Melissa talks invites with Wedding Paper Divas!

From Rebecca Yale PhotographyI was so incredibly honored when Melissa asked me to photograph her engagement! We shot on the gorgeous Crane Beach on one of the last beautiful warm days of summer as the sun set behind us and turned the sky and ocean around us the most beautiful shade of pink. Melissa and Shawn were such a pleasure to photograph! I adore engagement sessions because they are such a wonderful opportunity to capture some real moments of this unique time in your life of being young and in love and just being yourselves. Melissa and Shawn could not have been more genuinely in love and they were so sweet with each other the whole shoot, which makes my job so fun – and hello supermodel alert – I felt like I was on a fashion shoot on the beach with these two stunners! We were having so much fun we shot every inch of available light as the sun set around us, and luckily didn’t get in too much trouble for staying out on the sand after dark, because I just couldn’t stop shooting these two!

From the Groom-to-be… After dating Melissa for 8 years, I decided it was time for me to buck up and finally ask the woman that I so dearly adore to finally do the honor of marrying me. So first things first, I started backwards planning on how I was going to pull it all off.

Since we’re both scuba divers, I thought it would be amazing to propose underwater. We both love the ocean, we live only a couple miles from our local beach and in the summer, we’re usually on our boat when we have free time. The first gift I ever gave her was the conch shell we included in our engagement photos that I found while scuba diving in Turks & Caicos for my marine biology course in college. So it only seemed fitting to do it by the water.

With my parents having recently retired near Palm Beach in Florida, I planned a getaway to visit them and everything was set. I had my father do a recon of the best dive shop in the area prior to our arrival, to say the least, but unfortunately the rough seas that week didn’t cooperate, so I had to switch to plan B.

My parents took us to see The Breakers and my mother recommended to propose in the botanical garden, which was beautiful, but it didn’t feel quite like us, so I held off and waited to take her to a secluded area of Delray Beach we had planned to visit the next day. We found a quiet little cabana and within five minutes of setting up our spot, I asked “Melissa, will you marry me?”. You should have seen her face—she never saw it coming. It was perfect, tears of joy, and an absolute “Yes” with a hug and a kiss followed by a celebratory piña colada at a fun tiki bar across the street called The Sandbar.

Nautical Coral + Mint Cape Cod Wedding

When these two special education teachers met six years ago, it didn’t take long before a friendship and eventual romance followed. And once the question was popped and the was date set, a wedding at the bride’s family vacation home made perfect sense. Ruth Eileen captured every momentDelicious Desserts designed the (amazing!) cake and Brighter Lights Media crafted the film you don’t want to miss.

[iframe //player.vimeo.com/video/100588516?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&color=ffff66 600 338]

From the Bride… Rob and I met six years ago in New York City as special education teachers in the South Bronx. He grew up in Suffern, NY and I had just moved to the city from Santa Cruz, California. We bonded quickly during our first year of teaching and graduate school, and have been best friends ever since.

From the moment Rob proposed, I knew we would get married in Cape Cod. My family has a cottage in Wareham, Massachusetts that has been a summer vacation destination for several generations and my favorite place in the entire world. Since the beginning of our relationship, Rob and I have spent countless hours at the beach cottage, surrounded by family or enjoying a romantic getaway from our busy life in Manhattan.

When we found the Popponesset Inn, there was no need to look further for the perfect wedding venue. We wanted a romantic, nautical beach wedding, and thanks to our parents and amazing vendors, Rob and I literally had the wedding of our dreams.

Our wedding was on the evening of May 25th under a tent on the beach. The ceremony was performed by a close friend of mine and included Jewish and Christian traditions, as well as our own vows and a Fisherman’s Knot. My favorite parts of the day were the personal touches, from the interfaith ceremony to the funfetti wedding cake to the chalkboard sinage to the gilded NYC taxicabs we used for escort cards to pay homage to city where met and fell in love.

The colors we chose were mint and coral, with touches of gold, with the anchor playing a central role in our decor. Our huppah was built by my father, who incorporated our color scheme and other gorgeous details like lace and nautical rope. The flowers by Sweet Annie Floral Designs consisted of large, colorful garden roses, ranunculus, and peonies with touches of dusty miller.

Rob and I could not have asked for a more beautiful day. We are filled with so much love and gratitude for our friends, family, and all the people we worked with who made our day unforgettable.

Stylin’ Cape Cod Wedding at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel

If your currently pining for the warm, sunny days of summer, I’ll do you one better. That magical summer light and a wedding so sweet your heart will warm the rest of your body right up. It’s perhaps better than being at the beach. Captured by Servidone Studios Photography, this wedding, with it’s convertible sunset cruise and perfect use of seersucker, is smiles guaranteed.

From Servidone Studios Photography…It is ALL about the details. Sara and Jason are two of the most easy going people you’ll meet. Their day was full of details that were personalized just to them. It was 100 degrees or so in Boston that day, but, on the cape, with the ocean breeze… it was the absolute perfect day.

Sara’s lace Pronovias dress was perfection, along with her beachy Born wedges and fabulous headband. Jason’s attire was beyond “beach hip” with his floral tie, J.Crew seersucker suit, and sea green Sperry top siders; Sara and Jason were stylin’.

In addition to their attire, every detail contributed to their stylish day. From the 1960s Imperial Convertible they drove from their ceremony, to the steel drum band, to the orange beach umbrellas at the Sea Crest Beach hotel…

At the reception, their details were full of sea shells, glass, and other DIY items.

Sara and Jason are two of the most easy going people you’ll meet; a casual chic affair was perfect for them. Congratulations to this blissfully happy and in love couple! (Who are currently expecting their first child… Well, other than their weimaraner!)

Charming Outdoor Wedding at Elm Bank

The trends come and go so quickly with so much beautiful inspiration readily available, but I tend to find myself drawn to the classically beautiful weddings, especially when they feel as soft, romantic, and fresh as this one does. Studio Atticus Photography captured the absolute perfect wedding day, with the sweetest love at the center, and it’s all right here!

From Studio AtticusAlthough it was slated to rain upon their wedding day, the heavens were quite merciful to Chase and Justin. A brief shower fell while the bride dressed, but the skies cleared before the guests arrived. The celebration was effortless and beautiful. The ceremony took place outdoors and was officiated by a friend of the couple. Guests enjoyed cocktails in the gardens, and then everyone moved inside for a night of wonderful toasts, dinner, and dancing.

Hamilton Hall Wedding in Salem, Massachusetts

Shane Godfrey never fails to capture weddings in a way that will stand the test of time, and this beauty below is the perfect example. Classic yet not stuffy, this couples’ stunning Salem soiree at the Hamilton Hall leaves us with a gallery that just shouldn’t be missed. See it all here.

From Shane GodfreyAmanda and Burt are my second couple of my 2014 season and their Hamilton Hall Wedding did not disappoint! I knew when I met them and they explained how relaxed and fun they wanted their day to be that we would be a good fit for one another. We had a ton in common aside from their wedding. They live down the street from me, work in publishing, and Burt is also in a band that the weekend prior to their wedding, played with a friend of mine’s band at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. I had somehow never been to Hamilton Hall in Salem Massachusetts to photograph a wedding before and after this wedding I cannot wait to go back! The hall is lit by huge windows that run along the sides of the main ballroom and across the street there is a charming park which is a perfect place for photographs, especially as the sun is setting as our situation was on this day. They had both the ceremony and reception on-site, and the entire day was filled with love and laughter by both the couple and their guests as it was a smaller, more intimate wedding of a hundred or so people. I can’t say enough about this amazing couple and I can’t wait to run into them around the neighborhood!

DIY Floral Beach Cruiser

Beach cruisers make me happy but beach cruisers decorated with the prettiest florals? Those have me doing high kicks. We first fell in love with this floral infused bicycle here and have since been dreaming of crafting a get away bike of our very own. The Little ThingsSweet Annie Floral Design and Ruth Eileen Photography came to the rescue with this simple DIY that will leave you doing high kicks and maybe a few jazz hands too.

From The Little ThingsA custom, floral laden beach cruiser just might be the ultimate “getaway vehicle” for any beach celebration, and they’re easier to put together than you may think! Be prepared for envious stares as you’re riding off into the sunset on your own personalized floral beauty!

Materials

Beach cruiser
Basket
Blank hanging sign
Squeeze paint
Flowers with thick, sturdy bases, such as roses, dahlias, carnations, zinnias
Floral clippers
Floral wire, clipped into 6” pieces
Zip ties

instructions

step-1  Start with an awesome beach cruiser- preferably one that you grabbed off of Craigslist and fixed up to suit your color palette (like we did)!

step-2 Use your squeeze paint to write something simple and sweet on your hanging sign, such as “hitched,” “Mr. and Mrs.,” or “forever.” Be sure to practice writing with the squeeze paint first!

step-3 While your sign is drying, place your basket on the bike and secure it with zip ties. Fill your bike basket with florals until it’s bursting at the seams, and use another zip tie (or floral wire) to hang your sign.

step-4 Take your flowers out of water and clip them so only the base of the flower remains. Thread the floral wire through the base of each flower.

step-5 Take your wired flowers and place them up against the wheel spokes, starting from the inside of the wheel and working outward. Wrap the wire together and around the spokes as needed so the flowers are affixed and will stay in place throughout the day.

step-6 Once complete, clip off any extra floral wire peeking through, and you’re finished and ready to ride off in the best beach cruiser ever!

Beacon Hill Proposal Film

For those of you who haven’t yet visited Boston, let me tell you that a stroll through Beacon Hill is an absolute must. Think cobblestone streets, historic brick buildings, and gaslights at every turn. Basically, it’s the most charming place a guy could ever propose, and we’re about to watch it happen thanks to Harris Films. Grab a tissue and press play.

From Harris FilmsThere are few things we enjoy more than capturing the raw emotion of a proposal. There is something so different about it that really draws you in.

Vince proposed to Lauren on a quiet street in Beacon Hill on their way to dinner. We had him mic’d and captured the incredibly beautiful moment as it unfolded. As if the proposal wasn’t enough when they arrived to dinner her family was waiting for her after traveling all the way from St. Louis.

Shortly after the proposal we shot their engagement session along the Charles River and Esplanade, one of their favorite spots to spend time on the weekends. Vince and Lauren were such a fun and easy going couple to work with. We really enjoyed getting to know them and are so grateful they choose us to share this special time in their life with.

Boston Harbor Wedding Film

True story: I walk through the Marriott Long Wharf all the time while gallivanting through downtown Boston. It’s at the very center of all the city’s action, and setting to this glamorous summer affairPatrick Howell Films captured the lovefest, and I highly suggest you kick back and press play.

From Patrick Howell FilmsMeet Amber & Suneel. These two Floridians invited us to both Film and photograph their amazing Boston harbor wedding and film their save the date engagment video. This Wedding was a fusion between the Eastern (Indian/Hindu) and Western(Christian) cultures and religions. The amount detail and care these two took to make the wedding day such a perfect masterpiece was unbelievable. From the gift bags in the rooms, to the mid night snack (which was the bomb!!!) these two did it all. We can not wait to film in Boston again so we can see these love birds!

Their love story…Suneel and Amber were two ambitious Master of Health Administration graduate students at the University of Florida. Suneel caught Amber’s attention after an evening of de-stressing from their first semester of final exams when he chivalrously and tirelessly attempted to retrieve items that were ‘stolen’ by their cab driver. Friendship began to blossom during late night study sessions, ‘professional networking’ over cocktails and Finance tutoring. That friendship bloomed into love and the ability to restrain these feelings for career development was quickly overcome. Amber and Suneel knew their love was worth nurturing so after graduation they sold their belongings, packed up their cars and drove 1300 miles to Maine. Eighteen feet of snow and 333 days later they moved to Boston, slowly making their way back to Florida. Then on their three-year anniversary, March 9th 2013, Suneel proposed to Amber under a gazebo on the water in Jamaica.

Watercolor Wedding Inspiration Shoot

Ruth Eileen is one of our favorite photographers to work with here at SMP – not just because she is entirely lovely, but because we can pretty much bank on the fact that everything she touches turns to wedding gold. Case in point? This stunning beach inspired shoot. A collaboration with Making Me Events & a slew of other talented vendors, this is pure wedding eye candy. And there is more right here!

From Phebe from Making Me EventsOur photo shoot took place at a private beach in Massachusetts. The color scheme was inspired by the soft colors of a summer sunset. I’ve always been mesmerized at the simplicity of the sun setting, and how it can provide so many gorgeous colors independently and all at once. For this shoot, we focused on warm pinks, dull hues of peach and a pop of yellow, along with elements of bright gold to balance out the color palette. Pops of green added an unexpected element to our elegant watercolor shoot, and the beach provided the perfect backdrop as a venue for our shoot. We wanted to inspire future brides to look everywhere for inspiration and to incorporate elements of their venue that will add to the uniqueness of their wedding. Given our location we wanted to play up the fact that soft wind would be present, instead of fighting this element we decided to incorporated gorgeous chair covers that would add movement and a whimsy touch.

When planning your wedding don’t forget to add unexpected and bold elements, we’re giving you full permission to go crazy because we certainly did! We added gold faceted geometric terrariums instead of traditional vases, a gorgeous handmade Sequin Table number, and shadow boxes to hold escort cards, combined all of these elements look stunning and we were also pleased to see how it came together flawlessly. Planning something this gorgeous took an incredible team of talented vendors and I think that’s the key to fully enjoying the wedding planning journey, hire vendors who want to create something beautiful beyond your wildest dreams.

Colorful Nantucket Wedding at the Sankaty Head Golf Club

I’m pretty darn sure, once this post publishes, I will pin every summer-loving image of this picture perfect Nantucket soiree captured by Zofia & Co. Photography. Every single one of them. Because between the stunning florals from Flowers On Chestnut  and the gorgeous ‘Sconset setting, I’m pretty sure I am head over heels in love with this gallery

From the Bride…Michael and I met in college at Fordham University and got engaged on a vacation in Ireland after years of being together. It was a special trip for us as I wanted to show Michael where my family is from since both sides of my family are Irish and my mom was born there. After Michael popped the question in a private spot overlooking the Lakes of Killarney, we headed out for a celebratory dinner in town. Seated next to us were 15 Irish gentlemen who, after realizing we had just gotten engaged, proceeded to go to the front of the restaurant where there was a piano (naturally) and serenaded us in true Irish fashion for over an hour. It was such a special experience and one we’ll never be able to recreate.

We wanted our September wedding to capture some of the natural beauty, local color and connection to our families that we had found in Ireland and Nantucket was our first choice by a landslide. Having grown up on the island, Michael spent months telling me what a beautiful and special place it is when we first started dating. I was immediately hooked on my first trip there to visit his family. The friendly people, pristine beaches and dramatic bluffs reminded me so much of Ireland. We knew it was the perfect spot to celebrate our wedding with our family and friends who were traveling in from Boston, New York, Houston, San Francisco, England, Hong Kong and Italy. In keeping with the spirit of travel, we were drawn to the vintage postcard save-the-dates from Lucky Luxe. We had ours made with the image of the Sankaty Lighthouse as we thought it would be a fun way to invite everyone up to the island to celebrate.

Having our ceremony and reception at the ‘Sconset Chapel and Sankaty Head Golf Club in ‘Sconset were two relatively easy decisions as they not only provided the perfect settings but were two spots that complemented the laid back but elegant feel we wanted our wedding to have. Our mass was officiated by Father Tueth, S.J. a Jesuit priest and professor at Fordham. Though neither Michael nor I had Father Tueth as a professor, he is a beloved fixture on campus and someone we knew we wanted to be part of our big day. He brought a lot of humor to the mass and reception and we were so fortunate to have him. At the reception, we wanted our wedding guests to enjoy the beautiful sunset and local seafood samplings from Spanky’s Raw Bar (a Nantucket staple) and then head inside for a fun party.

We were so lucky to work with our amazing vendors who are all Nantucket locals and know the island inside out. Jodi’s Cakes made our beautiful Sankaty Head Lighthouse cake, the lighthouse that can be seen from the venue. Flowers on Chestnut put together the most beautiful arrangements of colorful wildflowers that popped against the navy blue bridesmaid dresses and lit up the interior of Sankaty without taking away from the views the venue provided. Zofia and Brian from Zofia & Co. Photography were so amazing to work with and we are so happy with the photos they took for us. The images captured the feel of the day and they knew all the right spots to photograph us in ‘Sconset. Zofia even found a dahlia bush that was in bloom with the same deep pink dahlias that were in my bouquet.

A family friend of Micheal’s chauffeured us in his ’54 Ford. Driving with him, my dad and two sisters to the ceremony helped relax any pre-wedding nerves as he made it such a fun, relaxed and unique experience. My ‘something borrowed’ was my mom’s pearl bracelet and my aunt’s platinum set pave diamond four leaf clover earrings from 1920, yet another nod to our Irish heritage. My seamstress sewed my ‘something blue’ wedding label into the inside of my dress that had been given to me by one of my oldest friends & bridesmaid. Michael, who spent time riding cross country on his motorcycle with his best friend in college, wore antique motorcycle cufflinks I had gotten for him at The Missing Link in NYC. For our smallest guests, we outfitted my nephews in Nantucket reds and navy blue striped bow-ties that matched the ribbons in our bridesmaid’s bouquets. They were dancing all night long to music from ECliff and the Swingdogs.

We spent our honeymoon in Italy, where Michael’s side of the family is from and we wish we could do it all over again!
