A Surprise Luncheon from Emily Weis
If there's anything better than a luncheon, it's throwing a surprise luncheon to show appreciation for the women you love. Once a turbulant year was put behind her, Vanessa Grider gathered her nearest and dearest and threw them a shin-dig of sorts to show them her deepest thanks. The gesture is beyond. This quote was the inspiration for the party. This past year was especially difficult and one could say my proverbial flame went out so I wanted to show my love and gratitude to those who rekindled my flame. Let’s face it, sometimes phenomenal women just need to be celebrated for being fabulous. Friends were invited to a party, without knowing the party was for them! Having the party on the large cozy porch of an 1800’s house felt like the perfect little space rather than taking it in the house. It’s the grown up version of a porch party. Instead of a bottle of soda sitting on the steps, glasses of champagne sat atop a farmhouse table with other pretties. The guests were welcomed up the brick path with a guitar serenade.
The Watercolor Paper Suite was one of my favorite design elements. It certainly was me-filled with color. It also had a sentimental reasoning behind it-the colors were a symbol of the turbulent year I had and these women provided the rainbow. I teared up when I received them in the mail; the colors and design were more perfect in person. Jenny, from Turquoise Feathers, even chose matching peach colored envelopes equipped with the quote on the back to carry out the theme. Another favorite was how the paper placemats with the doily cutout border displayed the quote under the clear plates to keep the appreciation at the forefront. The drink tags are actually paint chips from the hardware store. Another creative element was the gift table; it’s a vintage sewing machine table. The sewing machine was taken out and potted plants were placed in the remaining hole.
