Symphony Center Ballroom Wedding Inspiration

With its high ceilings and crystal chandeliers, the Symphony Center’s Grainger Ballroom is truly a sight to behold. No wonder the talented team of Clover Events found inspiration in its setting to create this beyond gorgeous shoot. Don’t miss all the details captured by Kristin La Voie Photography, including a stunning Alyssa Kristin dress with a seven foot train, in the full gallery right here!

From Katherine of Clover EventsThe inspiration behind this shoot came from the beautiful details in the Symphony Center’s Grainger Ballroom. With its high ceilings embellished with crystal chandeliers and sconces, and an extraordinary view overlooking Michigan Avenue, we knew we had to emphasize the old world romanticism you feel the second you walk into the ballroom. We also wanted to draw inspiration from the Pantone color of the year, Marsala, which popped against the neutral tones in the ballroom. This striking color was incorporated throughout the shoot in the rich linens, beautiful flowers, and vintage dinnerware.

From Alyssa of Alyssa KristinTo complement the grandiose ballroom, we wanted the gown that was both dramatic and glamorous. The seven foot train and silhouette of the Alessandra provided just that. Additionally, the softness and texture of the cascading tulle added a touch of refined femininity to the affair.

Tips for Getting Comfy in Front of the Camera

By far, one of my biggest recommendations to couples tying the knot is to do a fun little love session with your photographer. Whether that be a fancy engagement shoot or an adorable, cozy session at home with your sweetie like this one from Kristin La Voie Photography. Either way, it will loosen you up for the big day. Keep reading for a few quick tips from Kristin on how to get comfy in front of the lens!

Tips for getting comfy in front of the camera

1. My approach to every photo shoot, no matter the content, is to get natural smiles and laughter. I might act super silly or say something off-the-wall to get the expressions I am going for, but ultimately it helps get everyone relaxed and into it! Once we have that comfort established, it is all about trusting your photographer. Once you have that trust with him/her, it’s so much easier from there!

2. I am all about a nice cuddle fest, so I love to get my couples snuggling. This immediately puts them at ease, and from there, gets them feeling really natural in front of the camera! Once you forget the camera is there, it’s just all about creating natural images that tell a story.

3. Include elements that speak about who you are. If this means simply lounging with a cup of coffee or in your man’s oversized sweater like a typical Sunday morning, let’s do THAT!

4. Having your hair and makeup professionally done (by someone like Vanessa Valliant!) will immediately put you at ease knowing you look your best. I personally love to get it done for photos or big events so it eliminates that element of stress.

Enchanting Chicago Wedding at Revolution Brewing

From the whimsical blooms to the gorgeous green Weddington Way gowns, this next Midwestern affair is styled to perfection! Not only did this darling duo make their own invitation suite, they proved to be the ultimate DIY team. From spray-painted frames to pint glasse favors, they worked together to craft one enchanting affair. With Toast and Jam carrying the party into the night, Dabble Me This shares it all here!

From Dabble Me This… From the enchanting florals to the kelly green bridesmaid dresses Emily and John’s wedding was styled to perfection! The personality of these two lovebirds truly shined and I love how all the details were styled by the bride herself. Decorating the reception venue Revolution Brewing with DIY paper goods from Paper Source and complimenting the florals from Ipomea Floral with a hints of gold throughout. Everything blended together perfectly. I simply cannot get over how lovely this downtown Chicago wedding turned out and I was honored to capture it all. Below I’ve included write-ups from the bride Emily and groom John. Sharing the story of how they met and planned their wedding day.

From the handsome Groom… Emily and I met while we were both living in Madison, WI. She was working her first job out of college while I was finishing up school. It turned out her roommate was dating one of my roommates, and we met when a group of us went out one night. Soon after we went on our first date, and before we knew it we had moved to Chicago.

Emily and I were planning a vacation in New Hampshire in August, 2013, and I hid the engagement ring in my duffle bag on the way there. After a day of sailing and visiting with the Cunningham family, Emily and I checked into the inn where we were staying. Slipping the ring into my pocket, I told her I wanted to go out and look at the stars because we couldn’t see stars like that in Chicago. So we went outside, into the pitch black night, and tried our hardest not to trip on anything while walking around. After a few minutes of moving slowly and bumping into each other, we stopped and I admitted that the stars were just a rouse to get us outside. Then she turned to face me as I pulled out the ring and got onto one knee and said, “I really just wanted to ask…Emily Rose Noonan, will you marry me?” At which point she paused, said, “Yes!” And then proceeded to poke me in the face and ask, “is this real life?” Since it was, she put the ring on and we went inside and ordered a bottle of champagne.

From the beautiful Bride… When we first started planning the wedding, deciding on a ceremony venue was the easy part. John and I were both raised Catholic, so it was important to us and our families that we get married in a Catholic church. At the time we actually weren’t living in Chicago, but already had our sights set on moving to Bucktown. It’s not hard to see why we fell in love with St. Hedwig’s, a beautiful 125 year old church. A couple weeks after we reached out to the church, we ended up moving in a few blocks away. It was really neat for both of us to get married in a church that we belonged to and walked by nearly every day.

Being on a budget, we chose to trim some costs by making our own invitations and other paper goods. During this process, I discovered and fell in love with Paper Source and Rifle Paper Co. Creating our own invitations also allowed us to pick out the individual pieces and design things exactly how we wanted them. My husband was an incredible help with all the DIY stuff. He spray-painted all of the frames for the table numbers and somehow mastered stamping all the invitations when I couldn’t. John also came up with the idea for designing pint glasses as a wedding favor. It’s really exciting to see the pint glasses at our friends and family’s houses when we visit!

The best decisions we made were selecting the right vendors. All of our vendors were very responsive and easy to work with. We also didn’t have to micromanage or spell out the details of every flower or photograph that we wanted. When you are working with vendors that you trust to do a good job, you can just let them run with things and it’s less stressful for everyone.

In the end, we had 110 people at the wedding, which was the perfect size. We felt like we were able to spend quality time with all of our guests. Before the wedding, we had heard from others that you don’t get to eat, drink or have a moment to yourself at your own wedding. Having a smaller wedding allowed us to do all of this and really soak up everything. This doesn’t mean that it still doesn’t go by too fast!

Rhythm of the Waves Wedding Editorial

Overcast skies and a windswept shoreline, this pastoral editorial evokes daydreams of mermaids. A misty morning paired with rushing blue waves, Tamara Gruner snapped up every strand of beauty.  From an elegant setting awash with calligraphed shells and flowing table linens, it’s organic beauty leaves us mesmerized. Like the rhythm of the waves, each image drifts dreamily into our hearts and you can see them all here!

From Tamara Gruner PhotographyThe wind whistled through as the waves danced to that tune. The splash on shore created a mist of enchantment. This surreal backdrop provided the most mystical setting for our wedding inspiration. The rushing blue waters played an elegant part for our table setting – calligraphed shells and flowing table linen. To match the setting the bride was wearing a grey Veronica Sheaffer dress which drifted in the wind. The groom, not to be left wanting, was spritely dressed in his black tuxedo. The entire orchestra of the moment was completed by the rhythm of the waves.

Multicultural Chicago Ballroom Wedding

Surrounded by gilded details and soft blush accents from Art of Imagination in a glam ballroom setting, this fun-loving couple said “I Do” in a traditional Jewish ceremony, followed by, as photographer Olivia Leigh said, a “celebration was international, interfaith and multicultural — truly a global celebration of their relationship!” Check out the gallery to see every last gorgeous detail.

From Olivia Leigh Photographie… This wedding! Kadmiel and Whitney were THE MOST adorable couple to photograph. The joy and love they share just radiated from them, creating a beautifully emotional and incredibly fun, yet intimate celebration. After working in the wedding industry for several years, currently as a bridal stylist for Vera Wang, Whitney planned a beautiful spring wedding at the historic Blackstone Hotel in Chicago with Kadmiel. Their celebration was international, interfaith and multicultural — truly a global celebration of their relationship! A Jewish ceremony under an elegant and romantic chuppah was a beautiful start to the celebration and DJ Megan Taylor with Percussionist Chris Paquette kept the party going all night for this couple that loves music and dancing. They had one of the most packed and vibrant dance floors I’ve ever seen and all of their guests truly had a blast!

Elegant Tented Backyard Lake Forest Wedding

Personally, I think nothing is more romantic than intimate home spun “I Do’s”… And when your home’s grounds (well, in this case, the Groom’s parents’) looks like this? Swoon! Annie Parish Photography captured this stunning couple at their beautifully tented, all-white backyard bash in the gallery here, so take a peek and get inspired!

From the beautiful Bride… Our wedding day, September 13th, turned out to be a beautiful sunny day, although a bit cooler than we had anticipated! No worries; guests wore shawls and light wraps and were quite comfortable on the front lawn of the groom’s family home in Lake Forest, Il. After cocktails on the rear terraces overlooking the pool and grounds, dinner and dancing took place in warm tented venues on the back lawn. Our inspiration for the reception décor could be described a “twinkly, forest fairyland,” with slender ficus trees as centerpieces and beautiful ambient lighting, as well as gorgeous chandeliers.

The fact that it was the home that Bretton grew up in made everything so special and personal. Although our bridesmaids were limited to our sisters, there were 20 women – all of my best friends, plus moms – getting ready at the house that day, as well as about a dozen guys in separate quarters. It was fantastically fun and so memorable. Lots of champagne! Another special element was that our favorite band from Minnesota, who also played at my sister’s wedding, made the trip to Chicago for us. They played without stopping until midnight, and then we all moved into the “Apres” tent for the after-party with a DJ and pizza from Bretton’s favorite place. The last trolley rolled out at 3 am!

A dear family friend of the Pope’s presided over the ceremony, and my sister Tate —one of the bridesmaids—performed the vows, officially marrying us. Another fun feature of the ceremony was the men’s a cappella group from DePaul University making a surprise appearance, filing out of the house to sing Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me.” Bretton and I each read a poetry selection that we had chosen for each other; and through a blizzard of confetti we recessed to full volume Stevie Wonder singing “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”

Though the entire day was filled with memorable moments, our favorite part was walking out of the after-party tent, hand-in-hand, after the last guest had boarded the last trolley. I was carrying my shoes and Bretton had taken off his bowtie and jacket; we were both amazed that we were the last guests at the party! We took a moment to look back at the tents and talk about the day and night, and how we felt so lucky to have had the wedding day we did.

We met at Lehigh University on Halloween night, 2005. I was a freshman and Bretton was a sophomore, and we met on the steps of Sigma Chi where his fraternity Chi Phi was co-hosting a Halloween party. Bretton broke the ice by asking, “I think I was supposed to meet you!” Although it sounds like any other cheesy line, it’s actually true: Bretton’s dad had recently played golf with a friend of my dad, and they figured out that Bretton and I would both be at Lehigh that fall. Although we met in 2005, we didn’t start dating until September of 2008, after I got back from a semester abroad.

Bretton proposed on December 7th, 2013—about 18 months after I moved to NYC to live with him. He told me he had to go in to work on a Saturday, which wasn’t unusual. After he left, however, he asked me to check the bedroom for something he forgot, where I found a note instructing me to be in front of our building an hour later. A black car picked me up and whisked me over to the High Line, an old raised train track-turned-garden that I always admired but Bretton thought was over-hyped. Bretton was there waiting, ring in hand, surrounded by twinkle lights (I think he just got lucky, because Christmas was just around the corner!). After I said yes, we went down to the Standard Grill for oysters and champagne, and then uptown to our favorite sushi spot.

My dress was waiting for me, just as I imagined it, at Lovely in TriBeCa in New York City. My mother and sister came in for the weekend, and I had scheduled 5 appointments. The first two were disappointing, but I knew I would recognize my dress as soon as I saw it. It was a simple Theia sequined gown, elegant and sophisticated; and the fun surprise was a beautiful chiffon skirt with a seed pearl waistband that fastened over the gown, creating a lovely, floating bridal effect, which was perfect for the ceremony. When I took it off for the reception it seemed as though I had an entirely different dress on. I never expected to get so many remarks and compliments about my dress!

Charming Illinois State Park Wedding

This adorable couple couldn’t wait to the knot at this rustic ceremony in Beaver Dam State Park and a reception at the local fairgrounds. It’s a small town celebration with a big heart, thanks to personal details like the home-brewed beer favors and a horseshoe bar (a popular local nosh)! The ever so talented Christine Foehrkolb made it all look picture perfect in the full gallery right here.

From the beautiful Bride… Aaron and I met by him literally knocking on my front door. I was having a house-warming/graduation party and my cousin and her boyfriend brought their friend, Aaron, along for the party. We’ve been together ever since that night. Fast forward three and a half years, and Aaron proposed in late November. We immediately thought that we would have an October wedding; however, once January rolled around and we started planning, it just didn’t feel right to wait until October. Instead, we thought, ‘the sooner the better’! We started planning for a May wedding; when the Illinois weather would be beautiful and the colors amazing. I am a very detailed-oriented person and the task of planning a wedding in such a short timeframe started to weigh on me. Thankfully, I co-own a flower shop, Main Street Florist, with my best friend who stepped up and took a big chunk of the planning off my shoulders. I knew that I could describe the color-scheme and feel of the wedding I envisioned and she would bring it perfectly to fruition. Of course she did not disappoint! We had a small ceremony at the State Park near our home with our closest family and friends in attendance. During the ceremony, we performed a wine box ritual in which Aaron and I had both written love letters to each other and put them in a wine box along with a bottle of wine. The idea is that during a fight when we feel like our marriage needs help, we can sit down and share the wine while reading the love letters we wrote to each other. I smile every time I see the wine box atop our kitchen cabinets as it reminds me of our perfect-for-us ceremony. After the ceremony, Aaron and I snuck away to take a moment to soak in everything. During this time alone, we exchanged vows that we had written to one another. This is one of my favorite memories of the day. Since we live in a small town, the choices for a reception venue were very limited. We chose the biggest option available: a machine shed at our county’s fairgrounds. With the help of family, friends, and the flower shop employees, we were able to completely transform the shed into a picturesque reception hall. For Aaron and I, it was important that our reception was personal and ‘us’. We didn’t want it to simply be a reception that could fit any couple. Because of this, we added as many personal touches as we could: Aaron, who had found a passion for brewing beer, brewed enough beer for each of our guests to take a bottle home as a favor. Jordan, my cousin who had recently graduated as a pastry chef, made our delicious wedding cake. Instead of having a guestbook, we had a globe for all of our guests to sign since we love to travel. And one of the biggest hits of the evening was our food: a horseshoe bar. While planning the reception, I had told one of my bridesmaids, who is a chef, of the idea since I love a good horseshoe and she immediately took over and coordinated it all. Our wedding day was made possible by all the love and assistance of those closest to us. Our hearts were full with love and thanks: what an amazingly beautiful thing that is.

From Tiffany Siladke of A Splendid Occasion… I knew right from the beginning that Tiffany, the bride, and myself were going to be a great fit for each other, especially since we have the same name! :)

Tiffany and Nick reached out to me in the beginning of January 2014 and were in need of a great planner and designer in the Chicago area, since they both reside in Tampa, FL, with Tiffany’s two daughters – Dallas and Chayse. They knew that the chances of the both of them coming up to Chicago before the wedding was slim, due to their busy work schedules, and really wanted to find someone they could trust with their big day. That’s where I came in!

We did a lot of phone calls, skyping, texting photos and emails, and everything worked out in the end. Tiffany was able to come up one time before the wedding to approve the venue and a few vendors, but other than that it was up to me to create a beautiful, vintage inspired and dinner party-like event. I loved every minute of it!

The one thing thing that was so important for them was for the event to not “feel” like a wedding. They wanted it be an absolute blast for their family and friends, which all were traveling in from other states and we made it happen. We planned a city wide scavenger hunt for them the day before the wedding, unique vintage suitcases were delivered to each guests room with Chicago style popcorn, and other goodies, as well as the awesome hype man that MaryMonica Music, Inc. provided for us during the reception. The party was an absolute fun experience, and looked beautiful too!

Dallas and Chayse, Tiffany’s two girls, were also a huge part of the planning too. Since we knew there would be several kids attending, we wanted them to have a memorable time, as well! They had their own fun kid’s table, an interactive photobooth, and a cupcake decorating station. You can bet, a lot of the adults took part in that cupcake station!

In the end, Tiffany, Nick, and all of their guests had an awesome time and left the wedding full of joy, which is what I love to see! This beautiful little family officially became one, and it was a wonderful day to play such a huge role in. I truly enjoy these sort of planning experiences because the bride and groom really get to be a guest at their own wedding.

Classic Magnificent Mile Engagement

With a bottle of bubbly in hand this perfect pair brought along Katherine Salvatori Photography as they roamed the city the live in and love. The magnificent mile proves to the be the perfect starting point, a beautiful skyline that beckons sweet kisses and starry eyes. See it all in the gallery!

From Katherine Salvatori PhotographyJackie and Ben met through friends almost four years ago, and were engaged this past June! Ben brought Jackie to a private boat in Chicago’s Belmont Harbor for the proposal (so romantic!), so when it came to their engagement pictures it was a no brainer that we would take them in the city they live in and love. The magnificent mile was the perfect starting location, right in the hub of city life with the beautiful river. After walking around downtown for a bit, we headed over to North Avenue Beach for some champagne and gorgeous skyline views! Jackie and Ben exude style, I absolutely love their classic look (and that RING!!). These two are over the moon for each other, their smiles and Jackie’s adorable giggle says it all. I can’t wait for their wedding next October!

Vibrant + Romantic Illinois Wedding

It takes a bold bride to ditch the traditional white dress in favor of a pale blush or icy blue. But it takes an even bolder bride, like this one, to choose a fashion-forward coral-and-purple watercolored gown, and I am absolutely head-over-(coral)-heels for her bridal style. Captured by Esenam Photography, this couple’s gorgeous wedding is a work of art. See all of it in the gallery.

From the beautiful Bride… Just before we got engaged, Frank had just relocated from Charlotte North Carolina to live with me in Southern California where I had lived for the past twenty years. Frank and I had been neighbors as kids in a small rural town north of Chicago, Libertyville, Illinois. We knew each other through our siblings and had only one brief encounter before we each left Libertyville as young adults and began our independent lives. By chance, we reconnected after nearly twenty years by virtue of Facebook Scrabble and played diligently from across the country with each other for about a year. We finally met again in person and quickly fell in love.

When Frank and I got engaged, we struggled with our “where” for a couple of years until one day it just all made perfect sense! We had so many options in front of us that it just seemed so overwhelming to simply decide on a location for our big event.

One day, while browsing my Facebook news feed, I noticed a post from a high school alumni that had graduated in my Frank’s and my eldest sister’s class. Father Matt Foley had been the captain of the football team and the homecoming king of his class and a very dear friend of my fiancé. “Let’s get married in our hometown at St. Joseph Catholic Church (where both of us had attended as children) and see if Father Matt would officiate our ceremony!” I exclaimed to Frank, and he excitedly agreed! I don’t know why that wasn’t the first idea that popped into our heads because it certainly was the perfect place to have our wedding!

When Frank and I were children living in Libertyville, the Cuneo Mansion had been a privately owned home along the main street through town and a mysterious place behind a forest of trees on the way to the local mall. In 2009, the mansion was donated to Loyola University. It is now a museum and has a beautiful event pavilion for private events. Since our families no longer maintain homes in the area, we decided on this hometown landmark for a perfect, homey garden wedding feel.

The true inspiration for our wedding was the children in our families. All of the children in my family were eagerly anticipating the addition of a new cousin with Frank’s twelve-year old daughter. When my cousin relayed a conversation between her three children about how excited they were to have a new cousin, our procrastination had come to an end and the wedding planning had begun!

I knew that I wanted a dress from Monique Lhuillier, and I knew that I wanted the dress to be unique, and oh, was it ever! I was so excited to find a gorgeous skirt that reminded me so much of my Grandmother Ruza who had been a dressmaker on Michigan Avenue in Chicago during her day. My dress was gorgeous and colorful, reflecting the colors of our favorite Hawaiian Islands, Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai! I was also thrilled with the idea that my wedding dress was not going to wind up in a box like the fate of so many traditional wedding dresses after the wedding never to be worn again. I can easily tailor the skirt and wear these separates again!

Once I chose my dress, I was able to find my adorable Jr. Bridesmaids dresses from Laundry by Shelli Segal. I loved that all of the little girls would be in beautiful light layered white dresses that were perfect for running around the gardens on a summer evening and spinning on the dance floor at the reception!

I commissioned Jill Tegtmeyer, another LHS alumni to be my “day of” director as well as to do my flowers, which were beautifully administered to compliment my dress from Joseph’s Flowers in Libertyville.

Most important to us for our reception was to have fabulous food and we were very pleased with the selection of vendors that The Cuneo Mansion and Gardens required us to use. We chose Blue Plate for our “touch of blue” and for their very wonderful tasting that we enjoyed a few months prior to the event.

Our wedding ceremony was a traditional Catholic Mass but instead of walking down the aisle to the traditional bridal entrance march, I walked down the aisle to the Christina Perri Instrumental – A Thousand Years.

For a whimsical touch, I made place cards for each guest using a scrabble letter in each name, and place cards for the bride and groom were scrabble letters as well! Frank and I designed a beautiful corn hole game for the garden with our beny-bachi “good kiss” logo, which was a big hit with the kids and the adults! Beny-bachi is a play on our names and, since we had shared a kiss in our youth, perfectly befitting: “a good kiss”!

At the reception, welcome cocktails were colorful and complementing our color palette. We had a Jazz Trio during cocktail hour and during dinner, and then a seven- piece orchestra with male and female vocalist that kept everyone on the dance for the duration of the evening! It was a perfect hometown family reunion and close friends celebration – exactly what we had hoped for!

What do you get when you combine the luxurious shades of emerald and gold, a stunning halter-style silk shantung gown (it even has pockets!!), and an amazing team of vendors?! This vintage-tinged wedding inspiration shoot, that just happened to be shot at one of our favorite venues ever, the Chicago History Museum. Lucky for us, Emilia Jane captured every last stunning moment for us, right here!

From Clover EventsWhen I teamed up with Emilia Schobeiri of Emilia Jane Photography and Alyssa Kahle of Alyssa Kristin, we knew one thing for certain: we wanted to do a late fall inspiration shoot at the iconic Chicago History Museum that incorporated a mix of neutral colors, brought to life with a bold pop of emerald green.

We emphasized our interpretation of classic beauty using the Chicago History Museum as the perfect backdrop to blend new and old. Erin McDonald of Platinum Events provided the most beautiful, lush florals in ivory and many shades of green. The florals were complemented by elegant crystal and gold table settings from Hall’s Rentals and luxurious table linens from BBJ Linens. There were so many wonderful textures on our table! And can we talk about the emerald sofa and arm chairs from Bowery & Bash?! These were the ideal finishing touch!

Sarah Drake Design’s invitation suite and menu card offered the perfect modern, neutral accompaniment to the bold pops of emerald. Maddiebird Bakery baked the most elegant, classic ivory cake.

Our stunning bridal model happens to be Natalie Probst of Natalie Probst Photography, who wore the gorgeous silk shantung bridal gown from Alyssa Kristin Designs as if it were custom-made for her. The darling bridesmaids were dressed in taupe and grey gowns from Brideside. All three ladies wore gold and rhinestone jewels from The Left Bank, which evoked the timeless elegance of the Chicago History Museum. Their fabulous hair and makeup were flawlessly done by AJ Schulz and Shannon O’Brien, respectively.

With this all-star vendor line-up we knew this shoot would be everything we had imagined it could be!

Glam Gatsby Waldorf Astoria Chicago Wedding

If F. Scott Fitzgerald were writing The Great Gatsby today, he would look to this couple’s big day for inspiration. From the deco stationery and luxe feather-accented florals from Dilly Lily to the beautiful Bride’s gorgeous Lazaro gowns and festive tunes from Toast and Jam, the details of this stunning affair epitomize the Roaring Twenties. Gatsby famously said, “Can’t repeat the past?…Why of course you can!” And, all the beautiful images from Ann & Kam Photography & Cinema in the gallery prove him right.

From Ann & Kam Photography & CinemaHave you ever dreamed of the perfect, glamorous, Gatsby-themed downtown affair? Well, Kelly and Joe created exactly that with their amazing wedding at the Waldorf Astoria. Kelly and Joe’s wedding was a stunning event complete with TWO Lazaro dresses, amazing florals by DillyLilly, and run flawlessly by CityGirl Weddings. But really, the most memorable parts of the day are always the people, and this wedding was as full of memorable, emotional moments as it was beauty and glamour.

Kelly was as beautiful and emotional as can be, and Joe was perfectly handsome and dapper. Before the wedding, Kelly had told me about how cute her nieces were, and I have to admit that these two flower girls are among the cutest we have ever seen. The ring bearer was so cute he never made it down the aisle, and the flower girl was so confident that she decided to sit down and pick up her flower petals before taking more than a few steps. Those are the moments that touch are hearts and we will never forget.

Romantic Winter Wedding in Chicago

There are about a million reasons this sweet Chicago affair is awesome, but I’ll start with the obvious: it’s crazy pretty.  From the luxe champagne and blush hues to that beautiful bouquet from Joseph Events to the freshly fallen snow adding just the right touch of romance to the proceedings, this, my friends, is elegant with a capital E.  See it all captured by Jacqui Cole Photography right here in the full gallery.

From Jacqui Cole PhotographyEvery bride dreams of snow flakes falling on her winter wedding day. On November 15th, 2014 Crystal and Eric had the first snowfall of the year – on their big day!

Their wedding day was elegant and romantic. Crystal’s colors were champagne gold and neutrals with a touch of blush in the beautiful florals. Crystal and the bridesmaids got ready at her mother’s house, which made for incredibly beautiful bridal portraits! Crystal’s daughter, Riley, was the junior maid-of-honor. The sweet getting ready moments between mother and daughter were some of my favorites of the entire day.

For the ceremony Crystal wore a lace, off the shoulder bolero. The ceremony included traditions from Eric’s German heritage and Crystal’s Mexican heritage. At the reception, just after the speeches were finished, we noticed the snow flakes falling outside. The brave couple didn’t hesitate to head into the cold for some of the most romantic images I have every captured. I am truly blessed to have captured such a beautiful day for this wonderful Mr. and Mrs.!

From the Beautiful Bride… Eric and I met through a mutual friend during the summer of 2009. We dated for four years before getting engaged in Aspen, Colorado on September 19, 2013. With a secret photographer there to capture the moment, Eric planned out everything perfectly and proposed in front of the Maroon Bells.

When we started planning our November wedding we really wanted to keep it elegant and romantic, with a neutral color scheme and a few rustic touches. Classic black Vera Wang tuxes for the groomsmen, champagne and nude colored dresses for the bridesmaids, and touches of blush in the flowers. With my name being Crystal and Eric being a carpenter, I incorporated some crystals and different wood ideas throughout the reception decor.

We chose Concorde Banquets in Kildeer for a number of reasons. Between the delicious cuisine, the elegant decor, top notch service and professionalism from the owner John, we knew this would be the perfect venue for our wedding reception. When we talked about our priorities for our wedding, we both really just wanted to throw a good party and make sure our guests had a great time. Every vendor we chose was a referral, or was from one of the many weddings we had either stood up in or been guests at. We felt the music would be really important, so we chose a DJ from our friends’  wedding. We had high expectations from John Grammatis and he did not disappoint. He played a perfect mix of old and new, and kept the dance floor packed all  night. We used Joseph’s floral in Libertyville for all of the bouquets and boutonnieres. I had to let go of my original florist three weeks before the wedding, so needless to say I didn’t have much time to meet with Joseph’s. I emailed them only a couple of pictures and when I got to the church and saw my bouquet I couldn’t have been happier to see it was EXACTLY what I wanted. Given the short notice, they were so patient and accommodating.

As far as photography, I knew right away I wanted Jacqui to be there. As a long time family friend, I’ve seen her amazing talent and watched her grow her photography business in such a short time. We have a similar style and I knew she would capture every special moment. You can tell Jacqui loves what she does, she was an absolute joy to have around that day. When she noticed it had starting snowing she pulled us outside to get some shots, and we are so glad she did that because those are by far ours and everyones favorite photos. The unexpected snow set the scene, but she captured one of my favorite moments of the whole night.

Then there was the choreographed dance that Eric and my daughter Riley performed, it was such a fun and emotional moment. To be able to look back at the photos and see their smiles and expressions is just priceless. Also, our guests really enjoyed when the German drum and bugle corps that Eric plays in came out and performed. It was important to us to have all of these personal touches. We loved looking around the room and seeing all of our friends and family there from all over the country, and some family from Mexico and Austria. We felt unbelievably blessed that day, and had the time of our lives!

To future brides, keep in mind what this celebration is really about and try not to let the stress of planning a wedding get to you. Choose what you and your groom like because it is your special day! Take help that is offered to you from friends and family, try not to have a specific vision of how everything will be, and trust that the day will be amazing. Because it will be!!!

Elegant Downtown Chicago Wedding

With a Bride that can’t stop smiling, stunning blush florals from A Stem Above, leather and lace ‘maids’ dresses, and one of the most covetable pieces of “something blue” we’ve ever seen, this downtown Chicago wedding has it all! Lucky for us, the ever-talented Jacqui Cole Photography was there to capture every last bit of pretty, and shared it all with us right here.

From Jacqui Cole PhotographyCourtney and Jamie’s wedding was a day full of romance, love and complete joy. Jamie decided to get ready with the Groomsmen at their childhood home. He gifted the Groomsmen an engraved bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label and happily toasted to his future before leaving for the church. Courtney and the Bridesmaids calmly got ready at the Loews Chicago O’Hare. Jamie gifted his Bride-to-be a beautiful pair of diamond earrings, as he wrote in her card, she deserved an upgrade for promising her life to him.

Courtney and Jamie wed at the stunning St Alphonsus, Chicago. It is such a breathtaking church and the perfect backdrop for such a joyful ceremony. We spent some time around the city taking portraits. Courtney opted for a more subtle, elegant backdrop of the Art Institute and I think it complemented her style perfectly! Their reception took place at the Loews Chicago O’Hare. The decor was classic yet romantic, with soft hydrangeas and whimsical blush roses. The couple danced the night away to the David Rothstein Band, who put on a fantastic performance! Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith! Your wedding was truly an honor to capture and I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!

Industrial Italian Chicago Wedding

We get a lot of amazing stories from brides, but I kind of love when grooms include their little bit too. It’s usually short and sweet, but packed with a whole lotta heart like this one. From his first time meeting his lovely (and absolutely stunning) Bride-to-be, to the sweet at-home coffee mug proposal, they are the cutest. Clary Pfeiffer made sure to snap every moment of their day and you can see it all here.

From the handsome Groom… At the time we met in March 2012, Erica was working in New York with one of my best friends. They were both in town for work and I tagged along with my friend to a Chicago bar where he and his coworkers were meeting up. I sat next to Erica and became increasingly intrigued by her loveliness (especially after learning that she shared a last name with one of my favorite University of Michigan football players – Tyrone Wheatley).

The following morning I woke up to an email from my friend, who had forwarded me a message from Erica the night before with the subject “Fw: Your Friend”, the body of which simply stated, “Is really cute. Single?”

Erica and I began a long-distance “flirtship” shortly thereafter. We officially began dating about a month later and when she transferred to Chicago for work a few months later, our lives forever became intertwined. The two of us (and my dog and her cat) became inseparable. I proposed to her in November 2013, gently waking her up with a fresh cup of coffee in a new mug with my the initial of my last name on it and a ring loosely tied to the handle by a pink ribbon. That evening Erica and I dined at our favorite Chicago restaurant, Balena, which, even before we knew it, started us down the path of creating a vision for our wedding.

From the beautiful Bride… Jonathan and I wanted our wedding day to be intimate, warm, but above all else, fun. The team from Estera Events helped us come up with an “Industrial Italian” theme, inspired by our recent trip to Italy, our shared love of travel and our favorite Chicago restaurant, Balena.

We chose Gallery 1028 in Chicago as our venue because of its rustic exposed brick and weathered wooden beams. The venue evoked memories of walking through Tuscan villages on our trip the previous year. Estera Events worked with Fleur to infuse fresh herbs into all elements of the floral décor, including hand-tying sprigs of rosemary to each placecard, incorporating fresh sage and bay leaves into each centerpiece and incorporating olive branches and seeded eucalyptus into my bouquet. Each table shared the name of a town we had visited together (Rome, Reykjavik, San Francisco, etc.) and was marked by an Instagram picture from our trips. Our guest book was a collection of vintage postcards, which our guests used to share travel stories, advice, love and best wishes.

Spencer from Style Matters spun fun tracks throughout the night, ensuring we and our guests never left the dance floor. Clary Pfeiffer Photography and Emily Hard Films each captured the warmness, love, laughter and fun that permeated the day. Our memories from that uncharacteristically warm and gorgeous day in September will live forever through Clary’s exceptional photographs and Emily’s touching video.

Elegant University Club of Chicago Wedding

Chicago just might be my favorite hidden gem of all the cities out there, not always thought of, but always guaranteed a good time. And much like this classic wedding, held at the city’s University Club, it’s understated elegance speaks volumes and shines brightly. Averyhouse captured it all so we too can fall in love with every delightful detail, big and small, all right here in this gallery.

From AveryhouseIt’s not all too often that we get to photograph a couple that has known each other since childhood. After spending an entire day with both Kate and Kevin’s families we can see where this amazing couple gets their warm, kind, inviting, and adventurous spirits from! We laughed, we cried, we (almost) cut a cake with Kevin’s officer sword. Just kidding! But we really did enjoy all of the special touches that these two incorporated into their wedding day to remember all of the amazing people who were unable to share in the joy of their wedding. We think you can actually feel the big love of this big family considering how it flowed on this very special day!
