Chicago Engagement Session by Ashley Biess Photography

I am crushing, like seriously crushing, on this adorable (and perfectly dressed) couple and their too-cute-for-words e-shoot by Ashely Biess Photography! The white balloons were the perfect addition to this simple session adding just a touch of whimsy. Go ahead, get your crush on in the full gallery!

From Ashley Biess PhotographySara and Mike styled themselves perfectly for their engagement photos! Honestly, they looked like they came directly from a fashion magazine. I loved it! At the end of the session, all I wanted to do was ask Sara where she bought all of her clothes so I could replicate her outfits for myself. :) Besides their stylish outfits, Sara and Mike were prepared with balloons and a gorgeous quilt to add some pizzazz to their photos. All in all, they were wonderful to work with, and I cannot wait to see them again in a few months for their Chicago wedding!

Hoosier Grove Barn Wedding by Katherine Salvatori Photography

There are so many things I’m loving about this country casual wedding held at Hoosier Grove Barn-the DIY linen flags, the lovely vintage china and those adorable mini-cake place cards (yum)! Shot beautifully by Katherine Salvatori Photography, this little number is a crafty bride’s dream! The inspiration is overflowing in the full gallery.

From Katherine Salvatori PhotographyKacie and Patrick had an intimate, vintage-styled wedding in early July. There are so many details Kacie did herself that I don’t even know where to begin. Between her hand-made linen flags for their church exit and her DIY veil, to the embellishments on her shoes, the DIY bridal and bridesmaids’ bouquets, and the made-from-scratch dessert cakes that each couple received — this was one bride who did not let a single detail fall through the cracks. Kacie spent the months leading up to her wedding collecting all of the vintage hankies, linens, cups, mason jars and quilts that decorated the reception space. She and Patrick wanted a comfortable setting with only their closest friends and family to celebrate their marriage. Hoosier Barn hosted their reception, and the property was an amazing place for their portraits. The reception space was intimate, relaxed and country-inspired. To date, this was one of my absolute favorite weddings to be a part of because of the thought and attention to detail that went into the whole day. It was truly a privilege to work with Kacie and Patrick.

InterContinental Chicago Wedding by Cristina G Photography

You’d never know just by looking at the drop dead gorgeous images by Cristina G Photography that this wow of a wedding was planned and executed in just three short months! The fabulous Shannon Gail Weddings and Events seriously outdid themselves when planning this culturally beautiful mix of both Jewish and Korean traditions. We love each.and.every.single.inch of this stunner and there’s so much more to see right here in the full gallery!

From Shannon Gail Weddings and EventsJennifer, Jason, and I had been working together since October 2011 on what was going to be a 14-month engagement ending in a glitzy, New Year’s Eve soiree! One day in March of 2012, they called, told me to sit down, and asked me if I could plan their wedding for June of the same year. My response was “Let’s do it!” With just three months until their wedding day, I knew there was no cutting corners. This wedding had to be every bit as fabulous as the couple. I immediately enlisted the help of the fabulous team at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile and the iconic Grand Ballroom with its stunning six-ton crystal chandelier was set to host the couple’s evening ceremony and reception.

It was important to the couple that we found a way to incorporate the Korean and Jewish traditions of the bride and groom’s families. They also wanted to fuse the bride’s love for spring and nature with all of the tradition and grandeur of the Chicago hotel, while keeping a contemporary spin on things (the groom had two rules: the processional needed to walk down the aisle to Pearl Jam, and the guys were to have Chuck Taylors!). We put together our team as quickly as possible; chose a beautiful palette of colors you might find in a watercolor painting: pale yellow, peach, blush, green, blue and lavender; and began the process of layering detail upon detail to give us the perfect blend of styles.

The couple’s stationery was printed with gorgeous Korean bird paintings as envelope liners; each was adorned with a feather. Guests entered the ceremony from the second floor balcony, where they made their way down the stairs to their seats, looking down on a stunningly draped Chuppah and candlelit room. Jenn surprised everyone, even her groom, by making a quick change and walking down the aisle in a traditional, magenta Korean dress. The ladies wore floor-length, periwinkle gowns with effortless stone jewelry and monogrammed gold bracelets the bride found on Etsy. For the reception, we paired a very “hand-picked” floral look with rustic Nevada succulents and a contemporary double centerpiece style with mercury glass vases set atop beautiful chopin linens. Guests enjoyed a contemporary meal complete with late night mini prime rib tacos and some serious rock music (did we mention Pearl Jam?). The night was comfortable and intimate, with the right amount of tradition and plenty of contemporary touches, which truly reflected Jennifer and Jason’s personality and style as a couple.

Frankfort Wedding at CD&ME by Danielle Aquiline Photography

We love anything rustic chic here at SMP,  so it’s no surprise that I’m head-over-heels with excitement for this Frankfort fête by Danielle Aquiline Photography. This wedding is simiply dripping with charm from the bride and her maids donning cowboy boots, the craft beer centerpieces and Mason jar toasting flutes…it just may have it all! I know I’ll be swooning for days…see the rest for yourself right here!

From the Bride… The way I like to describe my wedding theme is country chic. Our wedding invitations said “Cowboy boots optional,” so we knew there would be a good amount of people wearing boots. Both Eric and I changed into cowboy boots for the reception, along with all the bridesmaids and both moms. We did a big roast, so there was a large pig roasting when everyone got to the site for the ceremony. We just wanted everyone to feel relaxed and comfortable at this wedding. Nothing too fancy but still not too casual. There was a big beer theme to the whole night — centerpieces for the tables included beer bottles from many microbreweries. We had over a dozen specialty beers for everyone in addition to the traditional typical beers served at weddings because we love beer wanted to incorporate that into our day.

Lincoln Park Proposal + Wedding by Joshua Albanese Photography

It’s no secret that we’re all suckers for love stories around these parts. That’s why we love getting stories like this-from the surprise proposal all the way to the I Do’s. This sweet couple chose one fabulous, not to mention super fragrant, location for their big day and we’re head over heels for all the pretty images by Joshua Albanese Photography. Join us right here in the full gallery for even more!

From Joshua Albanese PhotographyWe love Roy and Kass, not just because they’re a great couple, but also because they have the distinction of being the first couple we have photographed from “Yes!” to “I Do!” Roy first contacted us when he was planning his surprise proposal to Kassidy – he had an elaborate plan devised and wanted us to help capture her reaction. Kass had no idea, and she was certainly surprised when Roy dropped to one knee in front of A New Leaf and offered her a stunning solitaire engagement ring from Tiffany. Joshua, posing as the typical Chicago tourist, captured everything from his post across the street.

Almost a year later, we all gathered again at A New Leaf to celebrate their marriage. We’re so glad Roy and Kass chose to hold their wedding and reception here – A New Leaf is quite possibly one of the coolest (and most fragrant) venues we’ve been to in downtown Chicago. They not only offer exotic arrangements and flowers by the stem, but there’s also a room with cacti and succulents, a wall packed with a rainbow of candles, and a second building where we found everything from driftwood and river stones to vintage tile. Nestled between the two buildings is a small courtyard filled with antique plant stands, small sitting areas, and seemingly a thousand terra cotta pots. We were a little sad to hear that they would be closing for 2013 for renovations, but we can’t wait to see the improvements they make!

Roy and Kass picked the Hotel Lincoln, just around the corner from A New Leaf, for their wedding preparations. The vibe at the Hotel Lincoln is a mix of eclectic and vintage 1950’s cool, making us feel like we were on a set of Mad Men. There were a number of great locations inside the hotel for photos, and we made sure to take advantage of the gallery wall on the staircase for Roy and Kass’s first look. The second floor featured an almost empty lobby full of period furniture that we also couldn’t resist. Despite the rain, Roy and Kass decided to do a quick photo walk to take photos at some of their favorite Chicago locations. Roy carried the 1950’s vibe through the photo shoot, channeling Gene Kelly in “Singin in the Rain” for what was my favorite image from the day. Back at A New Leaf, Roy and Kass’s closest friends and family gathered upstairs for the ceremony. Love, support and happiness filled the room, warming the wood floors and exposed brick walls. While we were upstairs witnessing Roy and Kass’s union, the team from Corky’s Catering was downstairs putting the final touches of yellow and gray to the reception décor. Bouchon Bakery provided the gorgeous tiered cake that featured delicate petals cascading down the sides.

We have heard nothing but great things about the DJ Roy and Kass selected, Toast and Jam. They are an all-girl company, and they spun some of the best sets we’ve ever heard at a wedding. We also loved the music direction Roy and Kass gave – can you still remember the lyrics to Salt n’ Pepa’s “Shoop” too? At the end of the night, Joshua still hadn’t gotten all of those terra cotta pots out of his head, so we stole Roy and Kass away for a few quick shots in the courtyard before we said our goodbyes.

Lincoln Park Engagement Session by Heather DeCamp Photography

There’s nothing quite like a downright darling e-session to wrap up the week on a seriously happy note – and this charming Lincoln Park shoot captured by the amazing Heather DeCamp Photography is guaranteed to keep you smiling ’til Monday.  An adorable duo, a meaningful (+ gorgeous) backdrop and a bundles of L.O.V.E… that’s a whole lot of joy for your Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Get ready for image after image of soon-to-be married bliss and join me in the gallery for more.

From Heather DeCamp PhotographyWhen many people think of Chicago, they think of the downtown area. Many of Chicago’s residents do not actually live downtown but in small neighborhoods surrounding it. Amanda and Paul decided to start their engagement session in front of their first apartment together in Lincoln Park. From there, they went to several little fun spots in their neighborhood that reflected their fun and playful personalities. They ended their engagement session at a semi-private beach up in Rogers Park for something a little more romantic. Amanda and Paul are getting married in Chicago at the Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier in August.

Chicago History Museum Wedding by Cristina G Photography

We love how the Chicago History Museum is this stately and storied building from the outside, and this sweet couple’s wedding just bursts with love, laughter and softness inside. The adorable little flowerpot escort cards are delightful, and the woven fans on the back of each reception chair? I am obsessed with this! A folding chair will never be just a folding chair again! Cristina G Photography captures all of the sweetness right here.

From Cristina G PhotographySebastian and Melissa’s wedding is sure to inspire brides everywhere! Their fresh, crisp color palette, beautiful decor and incredible backdrop of a major landmark — The Chicago History Museum — are elements that could be incorporated into any wedding celebration, whether it’s in a big city or small town!

From the Bride… Love was our inspiration for our wedding. Being in love, receiving love, sharing love. Love has surrounded Sebastian and me through family and friends, and we are just so grateful for all of them. We wanted our wedding day to reflect the love that we held for everyone dear to us and to send love to each family member and friend. We thought a special way to share that would be through making and designing many of our wedding details ourselves. Even though none of us are wedding professionals, all sorts of family and friends helped us come up with the ideas and stayed up late with us to make them real. As many of you know, DIY can be painstaking at times, but the wedding was the result of all the love we shared with those people and ended up being something we created together. Since we took on so much ourselves, we were so glad that the vendors we did hire helped make the day stress-free and, more importantly, cared about our ideas. Cristina G made taking our photos really fun and true to who we are, capturing the details that reflect our relationship. We felt like we were in really good hands the entire time with them. Everyone loved each of Jewell’s dishes (the gazpacho!), and Roberto from Monastero Entertainment made sure the dance floor was never empty for a second. Elena from He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not made the Chicago History Museum even more beautiful because she took so much care to understand what was important to us. So many of our guests have told us how much fun they had and described the details they appreciated most. When we look at pictures of our wedding in the future and see something like the little escort card flowerpots, we’ll be thinking about the hours we spent together with family laughing and listening to music while we put them together. It feels so wonderful to have our wedding be exactly what we hoped it would: a celebration of all that love we share.

Naperville Engagement Session by Kristin La Voie Photography

This couple could not get any cuter if they tried! Their playful vibe and super happy grins have us all smiling ear to ear today at SMP headquarters and we’re already talking about their upcoming wedding. Kristin La Voie Photography captured each and every silly and sweet moment and there’s so much more right here in the full gallery!

From Kristin La Voie PhotographyI bring you this adorable engagement session of Tami and Chris. Tami (owner of TamTam Designs) is a super-creative person, so I knew this session would be jam-packed with awesome. She came prepared with a banner, love and ampersand letters, picture frames, bubbles, and the best: the picture book Chris made to propose to her with. Their love story starts by meeting on Match.com, chatting it up, and finally meeting in person at Starbucks. It was love at first latte. They are super fun, silly and totally cutesy.

From the Bride-to-Be… Chris and I met on Match.com in August 2010. My mom actually met her husband on Match and Chris’s sister also met her husband on Match, so you could say we had a little family influence. Despite rarely taking their advice, for once we both did and as fate would have it, we were each on the site for less than a week when Chris “winked” at me. He was so cute! We met for a coffee about a week later and the rest was history — we’ve been together just about every day since. I can’t imagine a life without Chris and we both new very early on that we would spend all of our forevers together. Chris proposed on the eve of Thanksgiving this past November. Chris designed my cushion-cut ring with a cathedral pave setting himself and proposed by reading me a story — a custom-made book he also designed himself and printed at Blurb.com. We are planning a downtown Chicago wedding on November 17th, 2012, at the fabulous Pazzo’s at 311 venue — a night that wouldn’t be complete without our favorite photographer Kristin La Voie and team!

Chicago Wedding by Tricia Koning Photography + Five Grain Events

You know it’s going to be an explosion of pretty when Five Grain Events and Tricia Koning Photography are at the helm and this Ivy Room wedding is no exception! If the dreamy + delicious peonies by the ever-amazing Fleur aren’t enough, catch a glimpse of the sweet table perfection by Sarah’s Pastries & Candies! Check out this celebration in its entirety in the full gallery!

From Joan of Five Grain Events… Catherine was one of the most organized brides I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and she knew what she wanted: a fabulous band, good food, plenty to drink (and no lines at the bars) … oh, and blush — not pink! The ladies started the day in a beautiful suite at The Waldof-Astoria. Sonia Roselli’s talented team handled the hair styling for the bridal party, while Nika Vaughan painted faces. Catherine and all of her bridesmaids are natural beauties, so there wasn’t much work to be done!  The girls wore beautiful slate blue dresses, which perfectly complemented the blush and ivory floral palate. Meanwhile, the gents were relaxing at Conrad Chicago enjoying some downtime before the wedding began. Catherine and Phil chose not to see one another before the start of the ceremony, so both the men and women of the bridal party took a few separate group shots beforehand to make the most of the time. Tricia Koning got some great ones!

The ceremony took place at Holy Name Cathedral, a historic landmark in the city built just after the Chicago Fire.  Several passers-by peeked in to watch as the beautiful bride walked with her father down the aisle. Following the ceremony, the bridal party hopped on their trolley to get some photos together around Chicago. It was a little chilly, but luckily the rain that had been on and off all day lifted for a couple hours so they could some nice outdoor shots of the whole group! By the time Catherine and Phil arrived at the reception, The Ivy Room was all dressed up and ready to go! Fleur had created stunning arrangements for the tables, including a tiny blush orchid on each guest’s napkin. Frost lit the room with a soft amber glow and added wispy, ivory drapes to the windows. Food for Thought was passing hors d’oeuvres, and even the rain (which kept the cocktail hour inside instead of in the courtyard) didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit!

At the start of the dinner hour, the bridal party was rarin’ to go! Standing Room Only announced everyone in to a raucous audience of wedding guests. Once dinner was served, we launched into speeches. Now, in my line of work I hear a lot of toasts but I have to say that both Phil’s brother and Catherine’s maid and matron of honor gave some of the best I’ve experienced! They had the whole crowd both laughing and tearing up. After dinner, guests were invited to enjoy their delicious dessert buffet with tasty treats from Sarah’s Pastries, and Catherine and Phil shared their first dance to Van Morrison’s “Warm Love.” From that point on, Standing Room Only lived up to their name and everyone had a fabulous time dancing the night away!

From Delack Media GroupThere are many parts about this wedding that might take your breath away. For starters, Kate, her family, and her bridal party prepared for the big day on the 25th floor of the Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago. Their room overlooked the Chicago River and had a beautiful view of Chicago’s skyline. After Kate was ready, a beautiful Rolls Royce Silver Wraith seDanca from Elegant Motoring was waiting with a chauffeur, holding open the door for Kate and her father. Matt choked back some tears while Kate was led down the aisle at St. James Chapel in Chicago. The wedding party continued into a beautiful landscape of colors in a naturally-inspired room designed by Kehoe Designs at The Great Hall at Chicago Union Station. There’s something about the wedding couple walking down that grand staircase that is a great visual for us. Guests danced the night away with a variety of music from Rendezvous Music and ate at one of the most unique dessert bars (a liquid nitrogen ice cream) I’ve ever seen from Nitro Dessert Station. All of this was coordinated by the amazing Five Grain Events team.

University Club of Chicago Wedding by Tricia Koning Photography

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a beautifully sophisticated wedding comes your way by Tricia Koning Photography and takes things to an entirely new level. LOLA Event Productions enhanced the glamour of The University Club of Chicago remarkably, with clean linens and modernly fresh arrangements by A Stem Above. Chicago has never looked better and neither could this stunning gallery of images.

From the Bride… Our inspiration was traditional with a modern twist. We definitely wanted to ensure our personalities were reflected throughout the day. It was all the little details that really made the day ours: Josh’s IU cufflinks, my mom surprising us with a vintage poster depicting the date and location that was displayed at the entrance of the library for cocktail hour, the sign the flower girls walked in with, the Chuck Taylors worn by the ring bearers, the mix-and-match bridesmaid dresses, my bouquet including photo charms of my grandparents’ wedding pictures, etc. We wanted to create a unique, warm, inviting and fun day for our guests.

For the ceremony, we wanted our families to be an important part of the occasion to build upon and celebrate our backgrounds. It was important for us to acknowledge the people who had shaped our lives and were there to celebrate the start of our lives together. We chose the University Club because we loved the tradition of the club and the classic, old-world charm. The club offered so many unique rooms that could be utilized throughout the weekend. We used the library for cocktail hour to give our guests an intimate atmosphere with a great view of Millennium Park and the Art Institute, and then we ventured into Cathedral Hall to surprise our guests with cascading ceilings and ornate details throughout.

Chicago Wedding by Lorenzo de Gregorio Photography

Okay, so I totally have a crush on this adorable couple and their pretty, pretty wedding…But how can you blame me really? Just a few minutes into this wedding gallery, and I was totally smitten with the cuter-than-cute way that they look at one another. Even though neither one is from the windy city, they knew that a downtown Chicago wedding was just the thing for them. Their wedding was captured perfectly by Lorenzo de Gregorio Photography and there’s a whole lot more right here in the full gallery!

From the Bride… Having grown up across the country from one another, bringing our family and friends together to share in our wedding was really important to us. James is from the north woods of Wisconsin, and I grew up in Austin, Texas. There was never a doubt that Chicago was the perfect location for our wedding — it’s where we live, where we met and where we fell in love. Our best man introduced us in March 2008, and James moved to Chicago two months later on a gut feeling that things just might become serious between us. Which they did.

We were certain that the wedding should take place in the heart of downtown because we wanted our guests to really experience and enjoy the city we love so much. Our ceremony took place at one of Chicago’s oldest churches, Assumption Catholic Church, which has beautiful vaulted ceilings and huge, stained glass windows. James and I are both Catholic, so a church wedding was a no-brainer, but I was nervous about how to handle walking down the aisle. My dad passed away in 2007 and not wanting anyone to take his place, I decided to walk down the aisle by myself. Before approaching my groom, I stopped at my mom’s pew so she could lift my veil, which was a really emotional moment for us. For 24 years, I was an only child — until my mom had another baby. Our flower girl is actually my little sister, Ella! During the homily, our priest read a letter James and I wrote to our family and friends, which expressed our love and gratitude and explained why it was so meaningful for us to have them there to celebrate with us.

Other than location, our photographer was top of the list in importance. James and I wanted to look back on our pictures and remember how the day felt. We found Lorenzo’s portfolio online and never looked back. As a photojournalist, Lorenzo’s work tells a story and offers dreamy, beautiful narratives that are filled with emotion. I get tears in my eyes looking through our photos at all the moments he captured. Most of all, it’s amazing to see how much fun we were having and how many photographs show us laughing. Part of what made our wedding feel so special were the hand-crafted elements. We didn’t have an event planner or coordinator, so we dreamed up and created everything from the decor to the printed materials. We ordered tissue poms from an Etsy vendor, Paperwhite Designs, in our color palette of peach, gray, ivory and blush. The scalloped stickers on the macaron boxes were from Whimsy Whimsical Paper Goods, another Etsy vendor. The table number and wedding sign frames were inexpensive finds that I hand-painted in peach. James and I designed and printed all of the paper goods – our programs, menus, table numbers and signs and escort cards – which was a really fun project to do together. I designed our wedding cake and asked our bakery to make rose and vanilla bean macarons for the  favors. We placed fresh blooms from our florist on top of the cake to add color. And speaking of flowers – I adored my bridal bouquet. The combination of pastel peonies, garden roses, silver brunia and dusty miller was so romantic.

We were so lucky to happen across Hotel Monaco for our wedding reception, which in my opinion is a hidden gem in the midst of dozens of downtown hotels. James and I fell in love with the venue right when we walked in – the whimsical decor is french-inspired – elegant, yet fun at the same time. It’s a mix of warm lighting and rich, gold hues with pops of color, pattern and modern touches. We spent the night eating, drinking, laughing and dancing. Our last dance was “We Are Young” by Fun. which was the perfect anthem to end the night.

California Inspired Photo Shoot by Lily Red Studio + Jayne Weddings

I pretty much want to live in this photo shoot forever. Not only am I totally obsessed with Mexican food, but I die for all these colorful florals. Each and every detail is totally spot on and I especially love those gorgeous, watercolor inspired invites by Lily Red Studio, not to mention the general fabulousness of their images. Jayne Weddings was inspired by her days in California and really wanted to bring a sense of west coast cool to the midwest. I’d say she did that and SO much more! Click here for all the pretty!

From Lily Red StudioKatie-Jayne of Jayne Weddings reached back to her California roots for inspiration to style this “Cali-casual” inspired photo shoot at Big Star in Chicago. A sunny May day, vibrant colors and a bit of casual sensibility helped her bring a taste of the West Coast here to the Midwest! Photos by Lily Red Studio capture every last sun-drenched detail, including the playfulness of the venue and the Latin flavors of the florals created by Janessa Knodt of Forget Me Knodt. These included air plants, succulents, artichokes, straw flower and more, all in industrial cement vessels. Makeup by Nika Vaughan kept the models fresh-faced, while Debbie Petrielli’s lovely hair designs gave them that “just-off-the-beach” look. Gorgeous, casual-cool attire was provided by Mignonette Bridal. We loved the dress change for the outdoor food truck reception! Suzy Rohan of Lily Red Studio designed the invitations, menus, place cards and signage using a bit of southwest flair mixed with ombre and geometric shapes — two big trends right now in Cali-style weddings. Meanwhile the team at Jayne Weddings incorporated several natural styling accents, such as beach stones and succulents into the mix. They also added a couple of DIY touches, such as a paper garland of geometric shapes and a colorful table runner, to complete the look. Finally, with its casual atmosphere, abundant outdoor space and colorful, crazy-cool taco truck, Big Star served as the perfect setting for the couple to nibble on fresh tacos de pescado and cinnamon churros, washing it all down with classic margaritas.

Backyard Wedding by Jess Dewes Photography

What better way to plan your wedding than surrounded by family and friends? After living in Thailand for three years, this couple returned to their roots for a home spun wedding by Jess Dewes Photography, whose images will melt your heart. Nearly every element from this celebration were {impressive} DIY projects by the bride and groom, along with exquisite flowers from Baisch & Skinner, which all turned out just as beautifully as the couple! Be sure to head to the full gallery for more!

From the Bride… They say there is no place like home. Home is where memories are made, where love and laughter come as easily as breathing. That is why, after living and teaching in Thailand for three years, the obvious choice to commit ourselves to each other was in grandma’s backyard. Then came the task of transforming a backyard forest setting, which has seen the weddings of my great grandparents, my parents, and now, ours. My husband jokes that “our wedding was held together with zip ties, steel wire and mason jars.” To a certain extent, that was true. Everything in our wedding, from the decorations to the desserts, were fabricated by us or someone in attendance of the wedding. From the moment guests arrived, they were greeted by signs constructed of old storm windows, recycled found wood, and the aroma of fresh-cut flowers. Once guests entered the backyard, they immediately gained a sense that they had entered a space that had been transformed by flowing, white table cloths, family heirlooms, romantic flower arrangements, rustic burlap table runners and hand-crafted pieces.

Creating our wedding was the perfect excuse to spend tons of time with our friends and family after being gone for so long. We moved back to the states in April, and our wedding was scheduled for June 2. Needless to say, our hands were full, and we couldn’t have done it without all the help we received. My husband and his mom bonded over building the altar we were married under (which recently became our new picnic table). His dad took time to sculpt us two love birds for our cake topper. My mom, sister and aunts created an amazing dessert table filled with homemade goodies. My husband and I cut aspen tree slabs, which we hand-burned our table numbers into. We also fabricated our guest book and the chandelier that helped light the tent. Even my earrings were designed by my husband as a wedding gift from some stones he bought in Nepal, where he proposed. My girlfriends and I took countless trips to vintage stores and Goodwill to collect bud vases, pitchers and picture frames. We even spent the two nights prior to the wedding putting together all the flower arrangements and bouquets. Our wedding was definitely a labor of love.

Our hope was, as guests meandered through the setting, they would begin to gain a deeper appreciation of not only the hard work that went into the production, but the generosity of all our loved ones who gave us support, through either time, or donated artifacts. The night revolved around showcasing our values of family and unity. In the end, that is exactly what our guests’ responses were, and the sense of home and familiarity resonated throughout the night.

Chicago Engagement by Cristina G Photography

Cristina G Photography had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful couple who might as well quit their day jobs and model full-time (I mean, come ON, with that orange dress!) Utilizing the breathtaking views and perfect evening light at North Beach, the couple showcased their love for each other-and their pup, Penny-in this sweet e-session. Click here to see the rest of the images!

From Cristina G PhotographyDeparting from all the heart-shaped balloon/picnic blanket engagement sessions of recent times, we set out to create a simple and fun day in the life of this amazing Chicago couple. Lauran and Marty are “marathoners”, not “sprinters.” :) They ran the Chicago Marathon together last year and are now planning the perfect backyard, fall wedding.

We met right before sunset and spent some time in the park with their furry baby Penny. A walk to the beach and a sunset dance at North Avenue, and we ended with a stroll down State Street in the heart of Gold Coast, right before dinner. It was the perfect way to unwind after a long day at work!

This engagement session is fun, simple and full of life and emotion — a perfect description of the couple they are today. And yes, the cover girl-worthy, bright orange dress and hot Kate Spade purse Lauran carried for dinner are to die for! Swoon!

Chicago Wedding at The Rookery by Gerber & Scarpelli

It is a rare occasion that  a couple has the chance to marry at their meeting spot. In this case, they met at Old Saint Patrick’s Church, one of the only buildings to survive the great Chicago fire, and truly one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture on our own soil. Lucky dogs. As if the ceremony location couldn’t get any more gorgeous, they moved the party to yet another historically handsome spot: The RookeryStems provided peonies, peonies, and more peonies for this pink picturesque day, shot by Chicago Video Works and Gerber + Scarpelli. We are at a loss for further words, so please direct your Friday attention to the rest of the wedding!

From the Bride… My husband and I chose to have our wedding ceremony at Old Saint Patrick’s Church, a beautiful Catholic church in the downtown loop that is famous for surviving the Great Chicago Fire. Even more importantly, it’s where he and I met just two years ago at their annual “World’s Largest Block Party,” a summer street festival, cliched for singles to meet their spouses. It was love at first sight that night, followed by an engagement one year later, and now, marital bliss.

After searching online for weeks for the perfect wedding venue, I decided on The Rookery building.  It’s not a banquet hall, a museum or any place one might typically consider having their wedding reception — until you see it.  By day, it’s a downtown business building, famous for it’s architectural heritage. The interior is predominantly white marble with gold accents, then add a second level mezzanine, glass atrium and a spiraling, 12-story staircase — it’s breathtaking. With a little draping and minimal decor, it was the perfect reception venue. It inspired our “wedding colors” of white and gold with a splash of pink. I wanted an “all peony”  wedding, and in fact,  changed the date of my original fall wedding to a late spring wedding (when these flowers are in season) to make it happen. The bridesmaids’ dresses were blush pink in color to match the color of the peonies in my bridal bouquet. The cake, made by Amy Beck, was a three-tiered ivory cake with gold ribbons and adorned with peonies. The tables had square gold vases with peonies. Peonies galore! Our catering company, George-Jewell Events, provided our guests with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the upper mezzanine, followed by a seated gourmet dinner on the main floor. The guest favors were personalized bags of Garrett’s Popcorn, featuring our names and wedding date.

We hired the Stu Hirsh Orchestra for entertainment. They were AMAZING. Words can’t describe it. We had Stu as the solo pianist during the cocktail hour, followed by a jazz trio during dinner, then the full 10-piece orchestra for the rest of the night. I’ve never seen so many wedding guests on a dance floor at a wedding (or seen my dad on a dance floor before!). The Chicago Trolley Company provided us with a white stretch Rolls Royce for the pre-wedding and post-wedding transportation, and a large 32-person trolley for our photo shoot session (3 hours between the ceremony and reception).  During this intermission, the trolley took our entire wedding party, their plus ones, and our photographer (Mike Scarpelli) around Chicago for photos.  It was 75 degrees and sunny, a perfect wedding day!  We took photos in the middle of LaSalle street downtown, in Olive Park on the beach and on the ledge over the lake, and in The Rookery staircase.

Overall, the wedding day was perfect. It was a small and intimate wedding, just as I had imagined. Even in the busy downtown loop in Chicago, we were able to give our guests a soft, romantic, classic experience. We spent our honeymoon in Bora Bora, which was amazing, so we included a few photos from St. Regis Bora Bora!

Chicago Wedding at Mayne Stage by Amanda Megan Miller Photography

This fun-loving couple hit all the right notes on their wedding day. From the oh-so-chic mismatched maids with cowgirl boots to the gorgeous lace trimmed gown, this wedding is the picture of eclectic prettiness. Amanda Megan Miller Photography was on hand to capture all the pretty, little details and there’s so much more to see right here in the full gallery!

From Amanda Megan Miller PhotographyCrystal and Tyler’s Mayne Stage wedding was a true testament to how laid-back and fun-loving they are! Not to mention a testament to how much they really value their oh-so adorable family unit! From visiting their self-proclaimed “love alley” that they walked up and down to each others’ apartments when they were first dating to the stories of how their family unit came to be incorporated into their ceremony and wedding, Crystal and Tyler’s wedding was unequivocally a true representation of them as a couple … and as a family. The day began with Crystal getting ready at her hotel with all her sisters, bridesmaids and as many family members as the room could fit! The feelings of love and excitement for her in that room were palpable! Crystal had such beautiful treasures and heirlooms weaved into both her accessories and the ceremony, such as a beautiful antique ring box and her grandpa’s Chicago Cubs pin on her bouquet! Crystal’s wedding gift to Tyler was a very cool pocket watch with the inscription, “Always and Forever 3-31-12.”

Since Crystal and Tyler were having both their ceremony and reception at Mayne Stage, they spent the afternoon traipsing through the city, taking photos, before the big event. First up, was their “love alley.” These two were absolutely giddy to see each other and have a little alone time for photos. And of course, they stopped into the bar where they first met. Crystal got behind the bar, like she was when Tyler first walked into her life, but this time around, Tyler decided to just go for it right away! After a couple drinks, it was off to the lakefront for some wedding party fun. Crystal’s mismatched bridesmaids were styled to perfection, each with their own unique accessories and look. After braving the brisk Chicago weather in March, everyone piled into the limo and headed to the venue for the wedding! Some quick touch-ups, a little glass clinking, and it was time! Crystal and Tyler took the stage in the Mayne Stage theater in front of their loved ones and promised each other, forever. Their daughters, Rhiannon and Clara, looked happy as can be up there with them! Clara stole the show, preciously voicing her approval, now and again. After some very touching vows and sweet tears, Crystal and Tyler were pronounced married, and the girls joined them center stage to celebrate! After that, it was party time! First up was Crystal and Tyler’s first dance to the Tom Waits song, “All the World is Green.” Eventually, their girls joined the dance too. So sweet! Then We, Unity Candle took the stage, playing all those great ’90s jams and getting everybody on their feet! The guests took to the floor and danced all night long, celebrating the beautiful union of Crystal and Tyler!

Downtown Chicago Engagement Session by Cristina G Photography

As a Windy City native myself, I have a soft spot in my wedding-loving heart for an engagement shoot that showcases Chicago. With the help of Cristina G Photography, this sweet couple got their photo on at some of the most iconic spots in the Second City (well, the first city in my opinion)! There is so much more to love about this e-session and you can check it all out right here!

From the Bride-to-Be… As corny as it sounds, I’ve always believed that everything happens for a reason. Peter and I actually worked together via email for a few months prior to even meeting in person! In the summer of 2009, I was a summer intern at a Chicago law firm. At the same time, Peter worked at the law firm as a project assistant. We emailed each other numerous times throughout the summer because Peter was assisting me with a project, but we never met face to face. That same summer, I often saw a handsome blonde guy at the law firm’s fitness center where I worked out, at the time not realizing it was Peter the project assistant. The summer ended, and the school year at Northwestern University School of Law began shortly thereafter. I was stunned to see the same blonde guy working out at the gym near the law school. I thought to myself, “This guy is gym stalking me!” We finally put two and two together and realized who the other person was when we officially met through Northwestern’s Social Committee, where I was the co-chair and Peter was a new member. A few weeks later, Peter came to a party that I invited him to, and we have been an item ever since.

From the moment we began planning our wedding, Peter and I knew our special day would be centered around the most amazing city in the world: Chicago! Peter was born and raised in Chicago, and I am a converted Chicagoan after moving here five years ago. For our engagement shoot, we wanted to capture some of Chicago’s most beautiful scenery, such as the skyline at sunset, the unique architecture in some of the downtown hotels, and of course the famous Chicago Theater on State Street. Being the perfectionist that I am, I wanted out outfits for the photo shoot to be perfect, so we worked with a wonderfully helpful stylist from Nordstrom, Deanna Poneman. Our photographer, Cristina G, is incredibly talented and was able to capture everything we wanted: a chic, yet romantic and slightly sexy engagement session in the great city of Chicago.

Parisian Inspired Chicago Wedding by Melissa Hayes Photography

Another wonderful Wedding Wednesday is upon us, SMPers – and you know what that means.  A morning, noon and night of gorgeous inspiration, all courtesy of NINE downright glorious weddings guaranteed to make your heart sing.  So, sit back, relax and prepare yourselves for a day of all caps LOVELY – and don’t forget to check out those galleries for even more pretty!

Up first in our fabulous lineup is a Chicago wedding that will, put simply, rock.your.world.  It’s a Parisian-inspired love fest with pretty pink hues, beautiful blooms by Cornelia McNamara Flowers and a bride who gives new meaning to the word stunning.  (She’s GORGEOUS.)  The ever-amazing Melissa Hayes Photography snapped up all of the love-filled details and the gallery is a definite must-see.  Join me there for more.

From the Bride… My husband and I wanted a wedding that was elegant, but also fun and memorable. Originally, we booked a different venue, but we found out five months before the wedding that the venue was closing! We were so lucky to have found the Blackstone — it was meant to be! We used the historic Blackstone Hotel as our inspiration. We opened the windows in the ballroom to show our guests Grant Park. We used soft pastels so that we did not compete with the breathtaking ballroom. I told our florist to use springtime in Paris as her inspiration for the flowers. I think she captured it beautifully. Our wedding had a French feel, which was perfect since we went to France for our honeymoon. It’s hard to pick one moment, but one of my favorite memories is of the first dance. The band learned the Adele version of “Make You Feel My Love,” and I remember just being so unbelievably happy. Every time I hear that song, it brings me right back and I smile.

During planning, I browsed Style Me Pretty everyday with my morning coffee.  I found a lot of my vendors from weddings that I liked on this site. My advice to brides is to do your research. Your vendors can really make or break your day. My other advice is to steal a few moments with your husband during the wedding day, and remember that the day is about your love for each other. Our wedding day was truly everything that we hoped for and more. We extend our utmost thanks to our family, friends and vendors for their support throughout the planning process.
