Chicago Wedding at Greenhouse Loft from Ashley Biess Photography

Planning a wedding in just three months isn’t always easy, but when this beautiful bride and her Marine beau realized that their original date in April 2013 wouldn’t be possible, they decided a December wedding was most definitely in order.  And, oh my goodness, was it beautiful.  Think Texas-inspired details, pretty pink hues and an amazing Enzoani gown from Blush Bridal Lounge, all captured in beyond beautiful images by Ashley Biess Photography.  See every last one in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Who says you can’t plan a wedding in 3 months? It’s definitely not easy, but it CAN be done, ladies! My husband and I had originally been planning for an April 2013 wedding in my hometown, Chicago. Planning from Austin, Texas, we were hoping for a longer engagement to get all of the details just right. My husband, a Marine, found out in September that there wasn’t a guarantee he’d be able to make it to our April wedding date. We were quickly forced with the decision to move up our wedding to December, only 3 months away.

Did I mention that I didn’t even have a dress yet!? The stars aligned when I found out that the designer of the dress I fell in love with only had ONE dress left in my size in the ENTIRE country. It was meant to be! From that moment on, Joe and I knew that we wanted to bring some of Austin’s fun and quirky style to Chicago. We included a craft beer station at our reception, served a signature Mexican Martini cocktail to our guests, and made a custom recipe book of our favorite meals as a favor. With the help of the modern style of the Greenhouse Loft, we felt like we had transplanted our home in Austin, Texas to Chicago for our special day.

Just to add a cherry on top: my husband and I Texas Two-Stepped for our first dance, and I wore my cowboy boots to do it JUST right. We embraced the soft, romantic winter weather and decorated with ivories, blush tones, golds, burlap and natural wood. We dimmed the venue lighting and lit the space with candles for a warm, inviting ambiance. It was the perfect day and I wouldn’t have done it any differently!

From the Bride… Matt and I have been dating since high school, so it’s safe to say I have thought about our wedding a lot over the years. We grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and attended college in Evanston and Chicago, respectively, so having a city wedding was a no-brainer. With the help of family, friends, and amazing wedding planners, we were able to create a day that was very ‘us.’ My mom and I created our invitations, menus, ceremony programs, decorated mason jars, bubble containers, to-go dessert containers, and had so much fun along the way. Little details like my necklace, which my great grandfather gave to my great grandmother on their wedding day, and having my younger brother sing at the ceremony made the day incredibly special. My brother and Matt’s dad even surprised us by performing with our band at the reception! We had so much fun on our wedding day and were so lucky to have all our favorite people in one place to celebrate with us!

Chicago Wedding from Exquisite Designs + J Wiley Photography

Valentine’s Day seems like the perfect day to swim in sea of the prettiest pink hues, so that’s precisely what we’ll do thanks to the talented workings of Exquisite Designs. A beautiful blend of contemporary and classic, this wedding captured by J Wiley Photography makes my heart sing. And what’s better than that on a day where love is center stage? So grab a seat, and enjoy the seriously pretty show going on in the gallery of gorgeous – which is waiting for you right here.

From Exquisite DesignsKristine and James planned a stunning, modern wedding in a wonderfully unique space in Chicago. They even started their day in one of the most contemporary boutique hotels in the city, which provided a fitting backdrop for getting-ready photos and their First Look, and set the tone for the day to come!

Their ceremony and reception venue, Prairie Production, is an elegant converted warehouse. It is a lovely example of how this particular part of the city has transitioned over time from the industrial district to the home of stylish and unexpected event venues. The entire space has been painted white which set off the bright pops of fuchsia flower arrangements created by Exquisite Designs. The ceiling is adorned with whimsical white hanging lanterns that soften the industrial edge, and the candles throughout the rooms provide a warm golden glow in the evening. It was a beautiful mix of contemporary and classic, and the couple’s well-placed design touches kept the space feeling open and bright.

Family was also the focus of their wedding. Rather than a larger wedding party, Kristine & James’ only attendants were their siblings, which was in keeping with the intimate feel of their wedding. They incorporated a sweetly decorated, simple table showcasing family wedding photos from current and past generations. Using only black & white photos not only complimented their color scheme, but created a polished “gallery” look as well.

The book guests signed is itself is a tribute to the history of Chicago. Their dinner was refreshingly casual. No place cards were needed, and a delicious buffet allowed guests to mingle and dine at their leisure.

Guests hit the dance floor and rocked the night away cast in blue light punctuated with golden glowing lanterns which gave the feeling of being outdoors under a starry sky. Ultimately the day was a lovely balance of the historic and contemporary, grey, white, hot pinks, elegance and whimsy. I think it reflected their personalities wonderfully!

Chicago Wedding at River East Arts Center from Studio Finch

Layers and layers and layer of gorgeous. I think that is the best way to describe this seriously breathtaking affair captured by Studio Finch. It’s a cultural beauty that was spread out over a couple of days – which means inspiration multiplied for us. Days filled with stunning gowns, tradition and unmistakable love. Basically we couldn’t love it more, and it can all be found right here.

From Studio Finch…. Maaria’s festivities lasted a couple of days, as Maaria is Muslim and Anil is Hindu- so they wanted to incorporate all of their families traditions into one fun weekend. For their final wedding celebration, Maaria wanted to focus on a light, modern and airy feel, filled with whites, gold, and a touch of purple. Their dances and festivities made for the perfect wedding weekend.

Chicago Wedding at the Armour House by Gerber+Scarpelli Photography

This classic Chicago wedding sent into us by Gerber+Scarpelli Photography is in a word, stunning. Each and every detail was totally thought out and executed to perfection. From the super cute we can’t see each other until the ceremony pics to the very last dance, this wedding is full of drop dead gorgeous inspiration! Click here for the full gallery.

From Gerber+Scarpelli PhotographyMallory and Mark had a beautiful wedding day at Lake Forest Academy’s Armour House. This venue is a Chicago-area classic; located in a northern suburb, it attracts a bride and groom looking for that romantic and natural feel.

The girls started the day by taking their time getting ready. We got to hang out in the bridal suite and enjoy the lovely July weather on the balcony. All the girls wore floral robes before transitioning into their gowns for the day.

The bride and groom didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony, but we still did some sneaky shots of the two! We put them in certain positions to get a photograph of them both without them seeing each other. You could tell they were going nuts and just wanted to see each other! It made the walk down the aisle that much more exciting.

After their fabulous outdoor ceremony, we did photos of the bride and groom and wedding party on the grounds of the Armour House property. Though it was extremely humid, everyone enjoyed themselves while walking around the gardens for photos. The reception was held inside, where the décor was amazing and guests had a great time.

Chicago Wedding from Jeffrey and Julia Woods + Bliss Weddings and Events

A few years ago, we wrote, “Jeffrey and Julia Woods are to weddings… what LOVE is to marriage. A team. A fusion of style, emotion and tradition … with hearts full of passion.” Today, we couldn’t mean it more, or say it better if we tried. Once you see images from Jeff & Julia, you’ll never look at wedding photography the same again. Reading through their blog, especially reading about them is part and parcel of who they are in the wedding world. They say, “Your love is our inspiration.” No better motivation than that! And so with the amazing Renny Pedersen of Bliss Weddings & Events designing this spectacular Chicago affair, and Jeffrey and Julia capturing all those memories, there’s no doubt in my mind that you will remember this wedding for a very long time! We’ll meet you in the full gallery.

And now as only Jeffrey and Julia can do – a film that tells this beautiful story…

From the bride… I was never the little girl who day dreamed about my one-day wedding; I never had a vision or even thought about flower arrangements, let alone a wedding gown. All of that changed when basking in the glow of a diamond, a softball diamond. Matthew and I met long before we became a couple, while playing intermural softball. Neither of us could have imagined the story that would soon unfold or the fairytale wedding we’d be planning in the future.

Our courtship began, as most do, with casual dates and butterflies. From the beginning, it was easy… we found common ground rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Bears and a mutual understanding of always being touted as the “funny friend”. It didn’t take long for us to realize what we had was special, and more than that, it was real. Two years and 10 months, to the day, Matthew proposed while walking our Lhasa-Poo’s, Stella and Ralph. We’d been at a concert all night and he’d considered proposing sooner, but waited. He waited until it was just us, the four of us – I wish I could remember exactly what he said, but it’s all a blur. I recall screaming and worrying I’d wake the neighbors and dialing frantically to reach my parents and brother to share the good news.

Fast forward 14 months and 3 days, October 13, 2012… it was a rainy gray day in Chicago, it was my best friend and bridesmaid’s birthday, we decided to start the day as normally as possible – a quick stop at Dunkin Donuts. All of the planning, over the last 14 months, was about to be realized. Matthew and the guys were watching college football, while the girls and I were starting hair and makeup. I was calm, eerily calm. Everything was going according to plan, with the exception of the rain, but I was constantly reminded of the good luck that rain promised. As I finished writing my vows, I took a few moments to spend with my parents, separately – each offered words of advice, encouragement, love and affirmation that my choices leading up to this perfect day were just that.

We were married, just after sundown, under a simple but grand ivory Chuppah at the Chicago Illuminating Company. Our wedding party could not have been more gorgeous – the bridesmaids stunning in coordinated Bari Jay gowns and the groomsmen dapper in their custom bow-ties and pocket squares, by Chicago based designer, Elise Bergman.

Following a beautiful ceremony by Rabbi Ari Moffic, Matthew and I took a few minutes to reflect and to peek into the event space. It was, in a word, breathtaking. I could not have been happier with the end result. Every single touch was beautiful and immediately brought tears to my eyes. Matthew dried my tears and within moments a cocktail was in my hand and we were being greeted by our loving and supportive guests, at the cocktail hour. The party was just getting started.

We danced our first dance as husband and wife to Beautiful Mess, by Jason Mraz – this kicked off the night perfectly. My father surprised me with the song choice for our Daddy/Daughter dance, a Paul Simon tune, Father and Daughter, which had most of the guests in tears as the lyrics could not be truer. Rendezvous set the tone for an incredible evening, seldom was the dance floor empty and upon my request, one of the last songs of the night, Hang on Sloopy, was both a tribute to my Alma Mater and my incredible group of college friends.

In between dancing, toasts and greeting our guests we ate and drank the most delicious food and sumptuous swills – our meal was capped off by a beautiful and delectable wedding cake designed by our dear friend Joshua John Russell; three flavors, seven tiers, dozens of hand-made sugar flowers and an uncanny likeness to the details of my wedding gown, was the proverbial icing on the cake, of our wedding!

Everything about our day was truly us… we could not have done it without the help of our amazing team of vendors and our parents who made our wedding dreams come true! If only we could do it, all over again…

Chicago Wedding at the Waldorf Astoria from Artisan Events + Kehoe Designs

This gorgeous wedding, captured perfectly by Artisan Events proves that you don’t need a huge party to celebrate the most important day of your life. With elegant and modern floral design from Kehoe Designs and an intimate dinner for the bride and groom’s closest friends and family members, this head-over-heels in love couple enjoyed a simple and sophisticated day. Click here to see all the rest.

From the Bride… I never really had a dream wedding mentality from early on in. The one thing I knew for sure was I wanted small and intimate wedding with everyone at one table similar to a community table. Finding the space to accommodate that was the challenge due to the fact I knew exactly what I wanted, simple yet elegant. No dancing, just a wonderful night to bring our families together for a beautiful dinner. My style is very modern and I don’t like a lot of color or fluff. I went with a very neutral color scheme of gray and green. The event was held at the Waldorf Astoria’s Hemingway room that was a gray background and my flowers were green and shades of white with pops of gray surrounded by candlelight. I wanted a rolling landscape so there was no distraction for conversation across the table and everyone could see each other. When I think of my wedding day and the few months leading up to it the best way I can describe it was no stress, simple, clean, modern and elegant. Looking back there is not one thing that I would change and it was one of the best nights to be surround by the most important people in our lives.

Chicago Wedding at InterContinental from Orange 2 Photography

What Cinco de Mayo day wedding would be complete without a late night margarita bar + Mexican food spread? Certainly not this Chicago wedding from Orange 2 Photography! The bride + groom chose to say “I do” in Chicago after a surprise Paris proposal, and brought on the incredibly talented Anthony Gowder Designs + Take The Cake to create their dream wedding. You can see the rest of this pretty little number right here.

From Orange 2 PhotoFrom their first meeting in Chicago in October 2009, Heather Morris and Jon Stanner knew it was only the beginning. Both coming from small towns in the midwest, it was truly a perfect match. After a surprise proposal in Paris during a trip to France and Spain in 2011, the two had no trouble deciding to host their celebration in the Windy City.

After an enjoyable year of planning their big day finally arrived. As the fog lifted on that sweet Spring day, Belen and her team at Orange 2 Photo captured the excitement of the couple during their first meeting at the top of the InterContinental on Michigan Avenue. Light pink peonies dusted the Grand Ballroom with accents of soft gold and ivory, setting a romantic scene for the ceremony. The staff at the InterContinental provided top notch dinner service for the reception. Guests finished off their meal with Purdue themed cookies (Jon’s alma mater) and a perfect slice of cake provided by Take the Cake. All of their family and friends packed the dance floor during the reception, which could not have thrilled the bride and groom any more! With a surprise margarita bar and elaborate late night food spread, this Cinco de Mayo celebration could not have been any more perfect and memorable for the couple.

Chicago Wedding at Chicago History Museum from Artisan Events

My heart does a little leap every time I lay eyes on a perfectly classic fête like this one from Artisan Events. Timelessly perfect with a dash of sparkle, it’s the recipe for the prettiest of parties. And one look at this gallery, and you’ll agree that this chic Chicago soiree at the Chicago History Museum should be tucked aways with all of our favorite classic affairs. It’s all parts elegant with the perfect mix of family tradition, and it’s all waiting for you right here.

From Artisan EventsBeautiful, summer, downtown Chicago wedding at the Chicago History Museum. Super soft color palette and just right amount of sparkle.

From the Bride…Although Cole and I are from Indiana and Ohio, we met and fell in love in Chicago and it felt natural to have our wedding in this amazing city. I had always wanted a backyard wedding but being that we live in a condo and none of our family lives in Chicago it didnt seem likely to happen. We looked at many beautiful venues  but knew The Chicago History Museum was the perfect spot for us all along. The museum is located two blocks from where we live and we walk past it everyday so it still had a bit of that backyard feel to us. Having our ceremony on the back patio facing Lincoln Park, where we spend so much of our time, felt like the perfect way to celebrate our union and start the rest of our lives together.

Like almost every other engaged couple, we wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us and to host a party  for our family and friends to really kick back and enjoy! ! The day had a very classic feel while incorporating meaningful family traditions. The elaborate homemade italian cookie table and Cole’s uncle serenating us with an Italian Sinatra love song over dinner were special touches. We also decided to include a small table to display the wedding pictures of our parents and grandparents, who have almost 300 years of marriage among them, to honor the legacy that brought us to this point and to emphasize that this day was the beginning of a bond that would last forever.  Losing my grandmother and grandfather just months before our wedding and their 70th wedding anniversary was the catalyst for featuring these special photos. Our moms are very crafty and loved pitching in to help.  My mom made the wedding favor bags for the homemade cookies and hotel welcome gift bags and Cole’s mom made the programs and menus.

We worked with OUTSTANDING vendors and focused on letting them do what they do best so that we could really just enjoy the day. Having all of our family and friends together was an absolutely incredible experience and one we’ll never forget. It was so special and humbling to be surrounded by so much love and support. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day and will be forever grateful for all of the memories made!

Chicago Wedding at the Metropolitan Club from Cristina G Photography

The city of Chicago most definitely played a Cupid role in this darling couple’s love story, so it made perfect sense that they would incorporate as many Windy City details as possible into their Big Day.  I’m talking a breathtaking Metropolitan Club reception, yummy signature cocktails with names like “Chicago River” and a Sears Tower “guest book.”  And that’s just the beginning.  It was a celebration of a relationship that bloomed in one of the greatest cities on earth and it was all captured in devastatingly gorgeous images by Cristina G Photography.  Join me in the gallery for soooo much more.

From the bride: I’m blessed beyond words that I married my best friend, my true confidant, and my life partner, Peter. We met in the summer of 2009 when we were both working at the same law firm – Peter was working as a project assistant and I was working as a summer intern. As fate would have it, we both ended up at Northwestern law school a few months later. Our relationship flourished in this amazing city of Chicago, and in late 2011, Peter proposed to me on the Kinzie Bridge with a gorgeous view of the Sears (Willis) Tower in the background. We both love Chicago, Peter being born and raised in the city and myself being a converted Chicagoan after moving here 6 years ago. In fact, we love it so much that we wanted Chicago to be a very important guest at our wedding!

Throughout wedding planning, we were so inspired by this city in which we fell in love. Our cocktail hour and reception were held in the Sears Tower with stunning views of the city from breathtaking heights. My favorite pictures from the day by our talented photographer, Cristina G Photography, are of me and Peter in the skydeck of the Sears Tower which has an unparalleled view. Guests enjoyed signature cocktails such as “Chicago River” and “In the Loop” (a pun on the Loop neighborhood where the Sears Tower is located), and dined upon wedding cake with a Chicago skyline design. Table markers were various Chicago landmarks, and instead of a traditional guestbook, we had a custom made poster with the Sears Tower on it that guests could sign.

Since we wanted to showcase the views from the Sears Tower, we kept our reception centerpieces streamlined and unpretentious. Tall, dark chocolate willow branches were placed in a cylinder glass vase with various colors of purple orchids springing from the bottom, and hanging votives added a twinkle to accent the city lights. Our second centerpiece design was a trio of glass cylinders with submerged flowers and floating candles. Our DIY swizzle sticks were certainly a labor of love! Peter spent hours upon hours cutting wooden skewer sticks and pennant shaped paper, while I was on super glue duty, folding and gluing the flags to the sticks. Certainly a laborious task I would not want to repeat, but it was well worth it! I also made DIY tissue packets for the guests to take during the ceremony that said “Tears of joy and laughter; here’s to happily ever after!” We genuinely wanted our guests to feel pampered and special. We provided transportation from our ceremony location to our reception location with wine, beer and water on the shuttle buses. The shuttle drivers took guests on a tour of Chicago, complete with DIY itineraries made by Peter!

Our wedding day was truly one of the best days of my life. I love Peter so much, and I’m thrilled that our friends and family loved our classic Chicago wedding!

Chicago Wedding at Prairie Production from Anna Guziak

Anna Guziak is making my Monday morning seriously lovely thanks to this pretty party she sent our way, and I could barely wait to hit publish and share it with all of you. It’s a wedding complete with a dress that I’ve been dreaming of since I set my sights on it, fun florals as far as the eye can see and our favorite detail of all – love. This duo was surrounded not only by the prettiness they created, but also a troop of family and friends who couldn’t be more thrilled. And how can you not adore that? See more right here.

From the Bride… The venue my husband and I chose is a really unique space in Chicago’s West Loop called Prairie Production. The walls are white and there is a lot of natural light, so I thought it would be fun to incorporate these characteristics into our theme. The bridesmaids wore white dresses and our invitations were printed with white ink on a natural colored paper. To contrast the white, we added vibrant colors with flowers and decor. Our good friend Nathan was our floral designer and he did an amazing job of warming the venue’s ambiance and creating breathtaking spaces for our ceremony & reception. He set the tone for a beautiful and fun night filled with warmth, laughter and love.

I was a very lucky bride in that I had a lot of help from family and friends in my wedding planning. As I mentioned before, my friend Nathan did our flowers and decor; my godmother was our officient; my sister (and made of honor) did my makeup; and I’m a graphic designer, so I was able to do all of the invitations & print pieces for our event. These personal touches helped to make our wedding an immensely special occasion that truly reflected both my husband and myself.

Chicago Wedding at Galleria Marchetti by Cage + Aquarium

When an entire family gets involved in your Big Day, it makes everything that much more special. Which is why this beautiful bride and her dapper groom enlisted the help of mothers, brothers, cousins and fathers alike to pull off their dream wedding.  The result?  A downright fabulous day with table numbers DIYed by the mother of the bride, milk glass centerpieces from grandma’s collection and a ceremony performed by the bride’s cousin-in-law.  Don’t miss a minute captured by Cage + Aquarium in the full gallery.  It’s beyond beautiful.

From the Bride… My husband is from Minneapolis, Minnesota and I grew up in central Illinois. We both moved to Chicago after college and enjoyed everything the city had to offer. When we started planning our wedding, our main goal was to make it easy for our guests who were traveling to celebrate with us. We chose Galleria Marchetti for both our ceremony and reception venue and arranged for trolleys so that our guests could arrive in style, stress free.

Many of the vendors we selected ended up having one fabulous thing in common – they were women running their own small businesses! I was so happy to support their passions and truly enjoyed working with them all. Etsy was a source of great inspiration and many last minute purchases. I was also very lucky to be able to incorporate family history into our décor. We used antique milk glass from both my grandmothers’ collections to hold the floral centerpieces, displayed wedding photos from both sides of the family, and my mother and a friend even DIY’d the table numbers!

Our wedding was indeed a family affair – my cousin’s husband and his father were our officiants, both our cousins read Scriptures, and my brother, his roommate, and my mother’s college roommate provided the music before and during our ceremony…people are still talking about how great they sounded! There were so many wonderful people who worked together to make our day special…the feeling of gratitude was overwhelming.

Chicago Wedding from Anticipation Events

Sometimes the chicest of affairs take place in sleek hotels with chandeliers and floor to ceiling marble. But this day is more than its beautiful surroundings. What makes this wedding even more grandeur is not one amazing tuxedo, but two. From a pin symbolizing something old, new and blue attached to the lapel of one groom to be and right on through to Pen/Carlson photography capturing family and friends joining together in this most joyous occasion; you can watch it all unfold right here.

From Anticipation Events… Eric + Mike were married at Public Hotel Chicago in Chicago in October. Full disclosure: Eric and Mike live in Omaha and own an amazing hair salon there. Eric has been my hair stylist since I was 15 years old. He loves to tell the story of me running into the salon after a soccer game with a towel twisting up my still wet hair an hour before the Homecoming dance. So obviously this man can work miracles.

When they told me they were getting married in Chicago I insisted I would coordinate, mostly because I wanted to attend. I regret nothing. They flew 20 of their closest family and friends to Chicago and spent the weekend enjoying their company before getting hitched on Sunday. It was an exquisite event to say the least. Since they had just 20 guests at the wedding, they threw a dinner party to end all dinner parties. Seriously. It was six courses of delicacies and the Dom was flowing nonstop. Service at the Public Hotel was excellent and Botanicals created an amazing ombre centerpiece that spanned the length of the table.

After dinner they enjoyed drinks on the terrace and a second helping of dessert from the scrumptious dessert table that the pastry chef at Public whipped up. There’s something to be said for a small and intimate wedding and this one was really quite lovely.

Chicago Engagement Session from Jacobus Photography

This is one of those e-sessions that just makes you happy.  Happy because engagements are just so darn wonderful and these two cuties are embracing every moment of it.  Whether they are frolicking on the beach, hugging in the park or just looking downright spectacular for a night on the town, they are 100%, without a doubt, head over heels in LOVE.  And how could that NOT fill your entire body with joy? Click here for a gallery overflowing with beautiful moments captured by Jacobus Photography.  It’s sooo good.

From Jacobus PhotographyWhen we got the chance to photograph an engagement session in Chicago my husband and I were ecstatic! It was my first time visiting the windy city and couldn’t have been more excited. The couple, Andrea and Sean, are living in uptown Chicago and thought that Lincoln Park and the beach would be a perfect spot at sunset. After we shot around the park we went to Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel where we continued to shoot night portraits. It set the perfect romantic scene for Andrea and Sean as the sun went down and the city lights lit up.

Yujin & Nan | A Wedding at The Peninsula Chicago from I Do Films on Vimeo.

From Lori at LOLA Event Productions… Yujin and Nan tied the knot on October 6, 2012 in a ceremony at Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago and then celebrated in a reception for 200 friends and family at the Peninsula Hotel downtown Chicago – the bride’s home town.  Yujin’s inspiration was fall in wine country – as the couple currently resides in San Francisco. They wanted to bring a little of the romance of California to the Midwest.  Using a base of white and ivory, then weaving in some traditional fall foliage like liquid amber and pops of warm coral and orange, the ballroom at the Peninsula was warm and inviting on a cool autumn day.  In a nod to their love for poetry – 3 poets welcomed guests into cocktail hour by penning original poems based on thier topic requests on their vintage typewriters. Cocktails were followed by a gourmet dinner and dancing in the Grand Salon.  As a tribute to the groom’s Chinese heritage, the cake plates were painted with a raspberry double happiness – a good luck symbol traditionally displayed at Chinese weddings.

From the Bride… Jeremy and I met at the University of Illinois in 2006 at an ’80s-themed mixer between his fraternity and my sorority. I was 18, he was 22, and there was an unmistakable, immediate attraction between us. Nearly six years and a lot of growing up later, we got engaged and committed to being partners for life. As of late October, we are happily wed and living in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago! When deciding on the specifics of our special day, we tried to incorporate personal and handmade touches, while still keeping it elegant, classy and timeless. Saint Joseph is the oldest Catholic church in the area, with sky-high stained glass windows, a super-long aisle and large altar to accommodate our jolly and giant wedding party. Our reception venue, Michigan Shores Club, is a hidden gem in Wilmette, situated right along Lake Michigan. Its English Tudor style and vaulted ceilings exhibit the work of the architect Daniel Burnham, who designed such Chicago icons as Union Station and the Rookery Building.

My mom and I create and sell unique hair accessories together on Etsy, so it was a no-brainer to showcase some “Jill’s Boutique” originals. For the ceremony, I wore a simple cathedral-length veil and blusher. At the reception, I donned a cap-like hairpiece made of various vintage rhinestone appliqués, as well as a lacy garter with an azure colored bauble (my something blue). While I had a hand in the design, all three accessories were made with love by my mom. My bridal bouquet was wrapped in my maternal grandmother’s lace hanky, with my paternal grandmother’s rhinestone brooch pinned to it. Each bridesmaid chose a one-of-a-kind sparkler from our shop; some had on headbands, while others wore combs. I liked that my girls were able to express their individual personalities. My 2-year-old nephew and ring bearer, Andrew, carried yet another piece of my mom’s handiwork: a ring pillow artfully combining silk and vintage lace from France, as well as hand-embroidery with a verse from the first reading in our mass, Song of Songs. So special. Our ceremony was memorable and romantic, perfectly described by one guest as “traditional … with pizzazz.”

When planning our reception, Jeremy and I agreed on three must-haves: good food, good music and good fun. We also endeavored to extend the meaningful, handmade touches into the evening portion of our wedding. I designed, stamped and embossed the menus and escort cards. We had friends and family sign a guest book I created on MyPublisher displaying our engagement photos. We placed hand-tied sprigs of rosemary and bay leaves at each place setting, a nod to my husband’s Dutch heritage (our now-shared last name means herb merchant or grocer, and rosemary symbolizes fidelity). Our whimsical bird cake toppers, again created by my mom, complemented the organic elements of our day (i.e. herbs at each plate, artichoke and kale in the floral arrangements). Plus, I LOVE bird motifs – our home is filled with them!  During his toast, my husband’s twin brother and best man, Ryan, quoted the poet William Yeats, and it really resonated with me. He said, “The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to become sharper.” Of course, our wedding day was magical to Jeremy and me. But it was not just about having the perfect venues, gorgeous flowers, or even the most fabulous hairpiece. It was the magic behind having our loved ones in one room, people who support us as a couple and believe in our commitment to one another. That’s what it was really all about, and for that, we are forever thankful.

Wintery Chicago Engagement from Evan Hunt Photo

This couple is gorgeous. That is easy to see in all the breathtaking images from Evan Hunt Photo. But I can tell they are beyond beautiful on the inside too from the Bride’s sweet description. It’s perfectly heart warming. And their winter engagement session with the stunning Chicago skyline serving proudly as their backdrop? It couldn’t have turned out more perfect…which this couple couldn’t deserve more. See it all right here.

From the Bride… Andre and I started dating shortly after the loss of my mother. To me, he has become more than just my spouse, he has become the person I trust with all of my heart and the person who helped me get out of a very dark time in my life. We only know how to have fun with each other, and even when I am being a pain he knows how to deal with me. After about a year, Andre proposed to me in July 2012 on top of the Ferris wheel at Navy Pier on a very HOT day. I was the happiest girl alive at that moment. I couldn’t believe it that my dream was finally coming true. My dream was not only to marry the man of my dreams but also to finally get the chance to live near him. Andre is a member of the United States Army and we have been forced to spend many nights apart and have our relationship via technology.

We originally planned on waiting until summer of 2014, but when we found out he would be deploying at the beginning of 2013, we knew we had to jump on the ball. So in September 2012, I went and visited him in Colorado, where he is stationed, and we tied the knot. Although we are now a married couple and I am happier than I have ever been, I still want what every little girl wants: a fairy tale wedding. We are not doing things in the correct order, but I know I will have everything every other brides get the chance to enjoy. We just did our engagement pictures and could not be any happier! Next up is the planning for the wedding while he is gone protecting our country. The decision to get married and become an Army wife was not an easy one, but I know it was the right one for the both of us. I love my husband with all of my heart.

Urban Chicago Engagement Session from Olivia Leigh Photographie

We love it when couples brave the cold weather and get outside for their engagement sessions, no matter what the season. These adorable New York transplants must have felt right at home in the cold weather and Olivia Leigh Photographie captured such a great variety of images. We love them all. Click here for more!

From Olivia Leigh PhotographieI photographed Ivana and Kevin around the West Loop for a more urban look, which was a perfect fit for these recent New York transplants! Ivana and Kevin are just the sweetest couple, and we had the most picturesque fall day! I get a lot of requests for photo inspiration for cold weather shoots, and I thought they looked so stylish in their cream coat and brown leather jacket. Perfectly warm and chic!

Chicago Wedding at Venue SIX10 from Erica Rose Photography

Though currently snow-covered and experiencing the blustery winds of winter, Chicago has a magical something that manages to warm my heart despite the below-zero temps. And when my favorite city produces a wedding as lovely as this one at Venue SIX10 from Erica Rose Photography, I fall in love a little bit more. See every last gorgeous image in the full gallery!

From Erica Rose PhotographyJessica is an incredibly talented and detail-oriented bride who really made their wedding unique. She used thoughtful and creative touches such as Russian doll-shaped terrariums on the tables and custom-screenprinted tote bags as favors. She personally designed their programs, which were amazing. There were succulents in all of the florals, including bouquets and centerpieces. Venue SIX10 is a lesser known but absolutely stunning location, right in the heart of the Chicago Loop on Michigan Avenue. I’m certain that if more people knew that this venue were there, they would be all over it! The views from the terrace are the best in the city, and floor-to-ceiling windows make the city lights into a sparkling backdrop during dinner. Alex and Jessica were dedicated to their dance lessons and gave an amazing choreographed show to their guests during the first dance, one of the highlights of the night for sure. Even more important than having planned a gorgeous wedding is the fact that Alex and Jessica are two wonderful and genuine people with the sweetest family and friends around.

Chicago Engagement Session from Brosnan Photographic

Oh Chicago, you might be experiencing some colder than normal temperatures this week (and that’s an understatement), but you sure do know how to give me the warm and fuzzies with your charming ways. And your adorable couples, and their adorable engagement sessions. And when all of that is seen through the lens of Brosnan Photographic, it’s enough to make your forget for a moment how chilly it is outside, because these images are heartwarming and then some. See them all here!

From Brosnan PhotographicNatalie and Sal chose downtown Chicago for the backdrop of their engagement shoot. As a stylish couple who love city life, it was the perfect choice. We started at the river on Michigan Avenue, stopped at the giant bean to get a view of the city, headed on the L train at State Street and finished with a few more portraits near the river.
