Rhythm of the Waves Wedding Editorial

Overcast skies and a windswept shoreline, this pastoral editorial evokes daydreams of mermaids. A misty morning paired with rushing blue waves, Tamara Gruner snapped up every strand of beauty.  From an elegant setting awash with calligraphed shells and flowing table linens, it’s organic beauty leaves us mesmerized. Like the rhythm of the waves, each image drifts dreamily into our hearts and you can see them all here!

From Tamara Gruner PhotographyThe wind whistled through as the waves danced to that tune. The splash on shore created a mist of enchantment. This surreal backdrop provided the most mystical setting for our wedding inspiration. The rushing blue waters played an elegant part for our table setting – calligraphed shells and flowing table linen. To match the setting the bride was wearing a grey Veronica Sheaffer dress which drifted in the wind. The groom, not to be left wanting, was spritely dressed in his black tuxedo. The entire orchestra of the moment was completed by the rhythm of the waves.

Multicultural Chicago Ballroom Wedding

Surrounded by gilded details and soft blush accents from Art of Imagination in a glam ballroom setting, this fun-loving couple said “I Do” in a traditional Jewish ceremony, followed by, as photographer Olivia Leigh said, a “celebration was international, interfaith and multicultural — truly a global celebration of their relationship!” Check out the gallery to see every last gorgeous detail.

From Olivia Leigh Photographie… This wedding! Kadmiel and Whitney were THE MOST adorable couple to photograph. The joy and love they share just radiated from them, creating a beautifully emotional and incredibly fun, yet intimate celebration. After working in the wedding industry for several years, currently as a bridal stylist for Vera Wang, Whitney planned a beautiful spring wedding at the historic Blackstone Hotel in Chicago with Kadmiel. Their celebration was international, interfaith and multicultural — truly a global celebration of their relationship! A Jewish ceremony under an elegant and romantic chuppah was a beautiful start to the celebration and DJ Megan Taylor with Percussionist Chris Paquette kept the party going all night for this couple that loves music and dancing. They had one of the most packed and vibrant dance floors I’ve ever seen and all of their guests truly had a blast!

From Tiffany Siladke of A Splendid Occasion… I knew right from the beginning that Tiffany, the bride, and myself were going to be a great fit for each other, especially since we have the same name! :)

Tiffany and Nick reached out to me in the beginning of January 2014 and were in need of a great planner and designer in the Chicago area, since they both reside in Tampa, FL, with Tiffany’s two daughters – Dallas and Chayse. They knew that the chances of the both of them coming up to Chicago before the wedding was slim, due to their busy work schedules, and really wanted to find someone they could trust with their big day. That’s where I came in!

We did a lot of phone calls, skyping, texting photos and emails, and everything worked out in the end. Tiffany was able to come up one time before the wedding to approve the venue and a few vendors, but other than that it was up to me to create a beautiful, vintage inspired and dinner party-like event. I loved every minute of it!

The one thing thing that was so important for them was for the event to not “feel” like a wedding. They wanted it be an absolute blast for their family and friends, which all were traveling in from other states and we made it happen. We planned a city wide scavenger hunt for them the day before the wedding, unique vintage suitcases were delivered to each guests room with Chicago style popcorn, and other goodies, as well as the awesome hype man that MaryMonica Music, Inc. provided for us during the reception. The party was an absolute fun experience, and looked beautiful too!

Dallas and Chayse, Tiffany’s two girls, were also a huge part of the planning too. Since we knew there would be several kids attending, we wanted them to have a memorable time, as well! They had their own fun kid’s table, an interactive photobooth, and a cupcake decorating station. You can bet, a lot of the adults took part in that cupcake station!

In the end, Tiffany, Nick, and all of their guests had an awesome time and left the wedding full of joy, which is what I love to see! This beautiful little family officially became one, and it was a wonderful day to play such a huge role in. I truly enjoy these sort of planning experiences because the bride and groom really get to be a guest at their own wedding.

Classic Magnificent Mile Engagement

With a bottle of bubbly in hand this perfect pair brought along Katherine Salvatori Photography as they roamed the city the live in and love. The magnificent mile proves to the be the perfect starting point, a beautiful skyline that beckons sweet kisses and starry eyes. See it all in the gallery!

From Katherine Salvatori PhotographyJackie and Ben met through friends almost four years ago, and were engaged this past June! Ben brought Jackie to a private boat in Chicago’s Belmont Harbor for the proposal (so romantic!), so when it came to their engagement pictures it was a no brainer that we would take them in the city they live in and love. The magnificent mile was the perfect starting location, right in the hub of city life with the beautiful river. After walking around downtown for a bit, we headed over to North Avenue Beach for some champagne and gorgeous skyline views! Jackie and Ben exude style, I absolutely love their classic look (and that RING!!). These two are over the moon for each other, their smiles and Jackie’s adorable giggle says it all. I can’t wait for their wedding next October!

Elegant Emerald + Gold Wedding Inspiration

What do you get when you combine the luxurious shades of emerald and gold, a stunning halter-style silk shantung gown (it even has pockets!!), and an amazing team of vendors?! This vintage-tinged wedding inspiration shoot, that just happened to be shot at one of our favorite venues ever, the Chicago History Museum. Lucky for us, Emilia Jane captured every last stunning moment for us, right here!

From Clover EventsWhen I teamed up with Emilia Schobeiri of Emilia Jane Photography and Alyssa Kahle of Alyssa Kristin, we knew one thing for certain: we wanted to do a late fall inspiration shoot at the iconic Chicago History Museum that incorporated a mix of neutral colors, brought to life with a bold pop of emerald green.

We emphasized our interpretation of classic beauty using the Chicago History Museum as the perfect backdrop to blend new and old. Erin McDonald of Platinum Events provided the most beautiful, lush florals in ivory and many shades of green. The florals were complemented by elegant crystal and gold table settings from Hall’s Rentals and luxurious table linens from BBJ Linens. There were so many wonderful textures on our table! And can we talk about the emerald sofa and arm chairs from Bowery & Bash?! These were the ideal finishing touch!

Sarah Drake Design’s invitation suite and menu card offered the perfect modern, neutral accompaniment to the bold pops of emerald. Maddiebird Bakery baked the most elegant, classic ivory cake.

Our stunning bridal model happens to be Natalie Probst of Natalie Probst Photography, who wore the gorgeous silk shantung bridal gown from Alyssa Kristin Designs as if it were custom-made for her. The darling bridesmaids were dressed in taupe and grey gowns from Brideside. All three ladies wore gold and rhinestone jewels from The Left Bank, which evoked the timeless elegance of the Chicago History Museum. Their fabulous hair and makeup were flawlessly done by AJ Schulz and Shannon O’Brien, respectively.

With this all-star vendor line-up we knew this shoot would be everything we had imagined it could be!

Glam Gatsby Waldorf Astoria Chicago Wedding

If F. Scott Fitzgerald were writing The Great Gatsby today, he would look to this couple’s big day for inspiration. From the deco stationery and luxe feather-accented florals from Dilly Lily to the beautiful Bride’s gorgeous Lazaro gowns and festive tunes from Toast and Jam, the details of this stunning affair epitomize the Roaring Twenties. Gatsby famously said, “Can’t repeat the past?…Why of course you can!” And, all the beautiful images from Ann & Kam Photography & Cinema in the gallery prove him right.

From Ann & Kam Photography & CinemaHave you ever dreamed of the perfect, glamorous, Gatsby-themed downtown affair? Well, Kelly and Joe created exactly that with their amazing wedding at the Waldorf Astoria. Kelly and Joe’s wedding was a stunning event complete with TWO Lazaro dresses, amazing florals by DillyLilly, and run flawlessly by CityGirl Weddings. But really, the most memorable parts of the day are always the people, and this wedding was as full of memorable, emotional moments as it was beauty and glamour.

Kelly was as beautiful and emotional as can be, and Joe was perfectly handsome and dapper. Before the wedding, Kelly had told me about how cute her nieces were, and I have to admit that these two flower girls are among the cutest we have ever seen. The ring bearer was so cute he never made it down the aisle, and the flower girl was so confident that she decided to sit down and pick up her flower petals before taking more than a few steps. Those are the moments that touch are hearts and we will never forget.

Elegant Downtown Chicago Wedding

With a Bride that can’t stop smiling, stunning blush florals from A Stem Above, leather and lace ‘maids’ dresses, and one of the most covetable pieces of “something blue” we’ve ever seen, this downtown Chicago wedding has it all! Lucky for us, the ever-talented Jacqui Cole Photography was there to capture every last bit of pretty, and shared it all with us right here.

From Jacqui Cole PhotographyCourtney and Jamie’s wedding was a day full of romance, love and complete joy. Jamie decided to get ready with the Groomsmen at their childhood home. He gifted the Groomsmen an engraved bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label and happily toasted to his future before leaving for the church. Courtney and the Bridesmaids calmly got ready at the Loews Chicago O’Hare. Jamie gifted his Bride-to-be a beautiful pair of diamond earrings, as he wrote in her card, she deserved an upgrade for promising her life to him.

Courtney and Jamie wed at the stunning St Alphonsus, Chicago. It is such a breathtaking church and the perfect backdrop for such a joyful ceremony. We spent some time around the city taking portraits. Courtney opted for a more subtle, elegant backdrop of the Art Institute and I think it complemented her style perfectly! Their reception took place at the Loews Chicago O’Hare. The decor was classic yet romantic, with soft hydrangeas and whimsical blush roses. The couple danced the night away to the David Rothstein Band, who put on a fantastic performance! Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith! Your wedding was truly an honor to capture and I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!

Industrial Italian Chicago Wedding

We get a lot of amazing stories from brides, but I kind of love when grooms include their little bit too. It’s usually short and sweet, but packed with a whole lotta heart like this one. From his first time meeting his lovely (and absolutely stunning) Bride-to-be, to the sweet at-home coffee mug proposal, they are the cutest. Clary Pfeiffer made sure to snap every moment of their day and you can see it all here.

From the handsome Groom… At the time we met in March 2012, Erica was working in New York with one of my best friends. They were both in town for work and I tagged along with my friend to a Chicago bar where he and his coworkers were meeting up. I sat next to Erica and became increasingly intrigued by her loveliness (especially after learning that she shared a last name with one of my favorite University of Michigan football players – Tyrone Wheatley).

The following morning I woke up to an email from my friend, who had forwarded me a message from Erica the night before with the subject “Fw: Your Friend”, the body of which simply stated, “Is really cute. Single?”

Erica and I began a long-distance “flirtship” shortly thereafter. We officially began dating about a month later and when she transferred to Chicago for work a few months later, our lives forever became intertwined. The two of us (and my dog and her cat) became inseparable. I proposed to her in November 2013, gently waking her up with a fresh cup of coffee in a new mug with my the initial of my last name on it and a ring loosely tied to the handle by a pink ribbon. That evening Erica and I dined at our favorite Chicago restaurant, Balena, which, even before we knew it, started us down the path of creating a vision for our wedding.

From the beautiful Bride… Jonathan and I wanted our wedding day to be intimate, warm, but above all else, fun. The team from Estera Events helped us come up with an “Industrial Italian” theme, inspired by our recent trip to Italy, our shared love of travel and our favorite Chicago restaurant, Balena.

We chose Gallery 1028 in Chicago as our venue because of its rustic exposed brick and weathered wooden beams. The venue evoked memories of walking through Tuscan villages on our trip the previous year. Estera Events worked with Fleur to infuse fresh herbs into all elements of the floral décor, including hand-tying sprigs of rosemary to each placecard, incorporating fresh sage and bay leaves into each centerpiece and incorporating olive branches and seeded eucalyptus into my bouquet. Each table shared the name of a town we had visited together (Rome, Reykjavik, San Francisco, etc.) and was marked by an Instagram picture from our trips. Our guest book was a collection of vintage postcards, which our guests used to share travel stories, advice, love and best wishes.

Spencer from Style Matters spun fun tracks throughout the night, ensuring we and our guests never left the dance floor. Clary Pfeiffer Photography and Emily Hard Films each captured the warmness, love, laughter and fun that permeated the day. Our memories from that uncharacteristically warm and gorgeous day in September will live forever through Clary’s exceptional photographs and Emily’s touching video.

Elegant University Club of Chicago Wedding

Chicago just might be my favorite hidden gem of all the cities out there, not always thought of, but always guaranteed a good time. And much like this classic wedding, held at the city’s University Club, it’s understated elegance speaks volumes and shines brightly. Averyhouse captured it all so we too can fall in love with every delightful detail, big and small, all right here in this gallery.

From AveryhouseIt’s not all too often that we get to photograph a couple that has known each other since childhood. After spending an entire day with both Kate and Kevin’s families we can see where this amazing couple gets their warm, kind, inviting, and adventurous spirits from! We laughed, we cried, we (almost) cut a cake with Kevin’s officer sword. Just kidding! But we really did enjoy all of the special touches that these two incorporated into their wedding day to remember all of the amazing people who were unable to share in the joy of their wedding. We think you can actually feel the big love of this big family considering how it flowed on this very special day!

Romantic Chicago Wedding with Billowy Tulle Dresses

Sometimes it’s what happens between the celebrations that catch our eye. Like when this perfect pair carved out a fleeting moment to relish their newly acquired titles in a garden filled with blooms. And with averyhouse behind the lens, every heartfelt second was captured while Toast And Jam set the scene for their reception arrival, more here!

From averyhouse…  A true fairy tale wedding is what comes to mind when we think of Maribeth and Tim’s big day. With Tim getting ready at his home and his lovely bride to be getting ready at the GORG Thompson Hotel, we couldn’t help but smile at how ridiculously excited everyone was. We’ll also be the first to admit that there’s no such thing as too much tulle when it comes to 1) wedding dresses and 2) flower girl dresses. Not only was Maribeth able to incorporate beautiful shades of light pink and blush into her shoes and jewelry, but the soft colors she chose paired perfectly with her ceremony at St. Mary of the Angels.

Sometimes, as photographers, we have to remind ourselves to just take a step back and let things happen. As Maribeth headed up the church steps to greet her future groom that’s exactly what happened and we gushed when Maribeth told us it was one of her favorite images from the day. With as busy as a wedding day can be, it’s so great when we see a couple carve out a fleeting moment of alone time like Maribeth and Tim did for themselves in Lincoln Park after the ceremony. If you find yourself creating a timeline for your wedding day that seems less than ideal, make sure to revisit what points in the day you can slow down and take it all in like these two did!

Guests were greeted at Gallery 1028 by a postcard guest book and an Instax camera (let the selfies begin!) which was a really fun surprise for those expecting your typical guest book. If the picturesque and eclectic vibe (ahem, did you see their sweets table??) of this beautiful reception was what Maribeth and Tim were going for, then we couldn’t be more enthralled. Well done you two.

Romantic + Industrial Chic Chicago Wedding

This darling duo shows us that a little rain on your wedding day is utterly romantic. Mirroring the chic color palette of soft yellows and navy blues, this Big Day began with raindrops that led to a sun stricken ceremony. Proving that not even a little rain can stop a celebration, Averyhouse captured their eclectic, rustic romance affair and you can see it all unfold, right here!

From averyhouse…. When we ask our clients about their vision for their wedding day or the aesthetic they are incorporating to reflect their personalities and they respond with, “Warm, lived-in, eclectic, rustic romance,” our heart smiles. Mostly because we know from the very beginning that we’re a good match.

There was something about the rain that swept through on the morning of Melissa and Graham’s wedding while the two got ready at The Thompson Hotel combined with their cool and whatever goes vibe that made this day especially unique for us. We fell in love with Melissa’s color palette from the get go of soft yellows, burnt oranges, and cool navy blues that seemed ridiculously perfect for this kind of day. As luck would have it (how perfect is the card Graham gave Melissa??) the rain that once loomed overheard died down while these two hurried off to Gallery 1028 for their ceremony and reception.

Wanting to add some extra romance and depth to your own venue? Take a hint from these two and keep it warmly lit with candles and soft lighting. If harsh weather is something you dread on your big day, have no fear. These two can show you how it’s done.

From the beautiful Bride… Love really does come your way when you least expect it. On the morning of the day that I met my future husband, I woke up thinking that it was going to be the worst day of my life. My friend dragged me along to go sailing on the lake with a crew of people I have never met before. Yaneck caught my eye immediately. We talked the whole time we were on the boat; we seemed to have forgotten there were other people on board.

Fast forwarding a few years, Yaneck and I went on the trip of our lives. We were traveling around different countries and having our trip documented by having professional photo sessions in each country. During our session in Paris, Yaneck looked me in the eyes by the Seine River and said, “Babe, you know how much you mean to me. I would love to spend the rest of my life with you.” He got down on one knee and proposed.

A year and several months later we were starting a new chapter in our lives, it was our wedding day. Usually we are behind the camera photographing weddings and capturing happy moments filled with tears and joy, but this time it was our day. The morning of our wedding our whole bridal party got ready together in a big suite at the Waldorf. When it was time to put on my wedding dress, Yaneck and the groomsmen stepped out. I was surrounded by all 5 of my maids of honors, my mother in law, my grandmother and my mother who helped me put on my dress. Yaneck’s sister, Joanna, gave me a Russian gold coin to put in my shoe which is a tradition that has been followed for 4 generations in Yaneck’s family.

When Yaneck and I had our first look, it was emotional and it was the only time of the day we had to spend alone. Before our ceremony we went around Chicago with one of the world’s greatest wedding photographers, Marcus Bell. We have a huge appreciation for photography and having Marcus fly from Australia to capture our wedding felt like a dream. Even though we had a first look before the ceremony, walking down the aisle was an emotional experience for both of us.

Our reception was in a Chicago-style loft, Bridgeport Art Center. Getting up to the top floor, our guests had to use an industrial elevator which had a chandelier hanging from the ceiling and a bar to cool down from the heat before entering the venue. During cocktail-hour, we had our favorite jazz singer, Anna Lee, perform an amazing set.

Our venue was all perfectly put together with the help of our wedding planner and designer, Lori Stephenson from LOLA Events. We had rectangular rustic tables with lavender in vases on them and old Chicago-style windows hanging over tables with candles placed on top of the windows. Instead of having a table for the two of us we had 3 tables together which included our wedding party, their dates and our amazing photographer Marcus.

Most brides admit to their wedding day flying by super-fast. The day didn’t fly by in a blink; I remember my wedding day from the start, to walking down the aisle with my father and looking around at the people who joined us, to the speeches and dancing during the reception. Now we enjoy looking through our timeless wedding photos by Marcus Bell and our epic wedding video filmed by One Fine Day Productions.

From Britta Marie Photography… When I entered the bridal suite I was welcomed by a busy room filled with lovely women preparing to celebrate their friends beginning their life together. As I listened I overheard the mother of the groom and the bride-to-be talking about the groom in the sweetest way; both agreeing that they wish they could be more like him – his kindness, his patience, his ability to see the best in everyone – were just a few of the traits they highlighted as they excitedly segued into discussion about the day.

Before the first look both Gia and Michael separately expressed their anticipation over seeing each other, almost not able to put the words in place but saying that they just were “just so excited!”. Their meeting was filled with tears as they gushed over how much they loved one another, and as Michael took in how beautiful his bride looked.

And then the day began. With the most fun and energetic bridal party out there, we traveled around the city stopping at various landmarks to capture the joy surrounding these two.

The ceremony and reception took place at the historic Newberry Library; a gorgeous backdrop for a romantic, candle lit event.

Gia and Michael spoke the sweetest vows to each other, promising to be forever best friends as they grow old and gray together (there was not a dry eye in the room!). Anita Vaughn, like always delivered a beautiful message of the importance of love and commitment in a marriage, and every couple in the room left feeling a little closer to their significant other.

The party was just that. A huge celebration that lasted well into the night, filled with dancing, heartfelt and hilarious speeches, Ohio Sate University cheers, and sparklers sending these two off on the adventure of life together.

From Loudbyte CinematographyKatie is an event producer for one of Chicago’s top catering companies. In her free time she can be found running, in a yoga class or baking up a storm in the kitchen. She is best known for her chocolate chip banana bread, baklava, and delicious pies.

Austin is a consultant with a leading real estate advisory firm based in Chicago. In his free time, he can be found searching for unique and different ingredients for his next meal, trying a new bourbon, or, of course, hunting for a new bowtie.

Katie and Austin both attended Loyola University in Chicago. Shortly after Austin graduated, they met through mutual friends. One morning they saw each other on the train. A train ride lead to lunch and lunch lead to afternoon of playing hooky from work. Austin knew after that train ride he couldn’t let her go.

Katie and Austin set sail on May afternoon, where Austin holding on, asked Katie to spend the rest of her life with him. Following the boat ride, Austin had told Katie they had a romantic dinner planned. Little to her surprise Austin had invited both of their families for a delicious seafood celebration. Just towards the conclusion of dinner, both Katie and Austin’s closest friends walked in the door and surprised her. The day and evening were full of wonderful celebrations with the most important people in both of our lives. We could not ask for better families and friends. We are truly blessed.

Modern Geometric Wedding Inspiration

If there’s one thing we’re loving, it’s geometric wedding décor. Filled with out-of-the-box ideas and impossibly dreamy touches of gold, this inspiration proves that nothing is as stately as soft palettes and clean lines. Juxtaposing classic and modern, Mallory Berry For MGB Photo captured a timeless yet fresh feel while filling a must-see gallery with whimsical whites and gorgeous geometrics.

From Mallory Berry For MGB Photo… Light, simple colors are impossibly dreamy without fail, so we strove to abide exclusively by ivories, creams, and touches of gold for this wedding design. Nothing is as stately as clean palettes and clean lines, so our aim was to juxtapose classic and modern to create a timeless yet fresh feel.

Our ornament artist, Handmade Sam*made, added: “Originating from the Swedish word for sky or heaven, himmel, the Himmeli are a traditional Finnish ornament, a mobile decoration that is traditionally made out of straw or reeds in Finland. They are typically extremely ornate and are traditionally suspended above the dinner table during holiday season. It is thought that the larger the Himmeli, the larger the rye crop will be in the coming year.”

We were enamored with the symmetry and aesthetic of these ornaments, and with the traditional well-wish meanings behind them knew they would be the perfect inspiration for wedding decor. Taking the geometric theme and running, we stuck with linear and minimal elements throughout. A gorgeous raw warehouse venue, set against such a modern and vertical skyline as Chicago’s, was the perfect setting for housing the design, and each of our talented vendors came together to achieve the exact vision. Take a break from vivid colors, lace and pearls with us and inspire your plans with this milky geometric wedding!
