Lincoln Park Summertime Engagement

We can’t help but swoon over an e-sesh that features so many thoughtful details. The stunning couple, the sweeping scenery, an adorable pup, and don’t forget about that ring! Thanks to Britta Hundertmark’s captures, this couple now has a gorgeous set of photos to add to their ever-growing list of memories together. Take peek for yourself.

From the Bride… Michael and I met in 2009 in Cancun, Mexico while we were both on spring break. While there, mutual friends introduced us. That led to us staying up all night talking and watching the sunrise. When we returned to school, Michael asked me to attend his spring formal. We had a blast, continued to have fun dates and eventually started dating! He even stuck by my side through my crazy year as Miss Nebraska USA! In 2012, after graduating from the University of Nebraska, we both moved to Chicago, where we lived for the past 2 years. Since then, we are now back in Nebraska so Michael can attend dental school!

Proposal: Traveling is one of the many things we love to do together, so when we planned a trip to Mackinac Island, MI over Memorial Day weekend, we were both ecstatic to explore a new place together. Mackinac is unique because there are no cars on the island, so you get around by bike or horse and buggies while there! (We celebrated our 5-year anniversary in April, so of course the entire time I was thinking that this beautiful place would be the perfect place to get engaged. It was so magical!)

After checking into the the historic and beautiful Grand Hotel, we biked the entire perimeter of the island. Later that evening we had a 5-course dinner planned at our hotel. Being the avid picture taker that I am, we took some photos on the porch with the breathtaking views before dinner. (Fun fact, the Grand Hotel has the record for the world’s longest porch!) There were professional photographers on the porch, so Michael went to ask them to take our photo. As they were snapping a few, Michael said, “Lets take a goofy photo.” I didn’t think anything of it, because, like I said, we had taken a ton of photos, so I thought he just wanted to change it up. At that moment he proceeded to get down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I barely remember it, but all I know is that I was overjoyed with happiness! When we finally took in our surroundings, we noticed that everyone inside was smiling and clapping for us! We then had our amazing dinner, celebrating with champagne, just the two of us. After dinner, we couldn’t contain our excitement anymore, so we enjoyed coffee in the foyer while we told our family and friends the exciting news. We had two days left on Mackinac (one being my birthday), and they were both so wonderful to spend together as a newly engaged couple.

Engagement Session: Every location we chose to capture our engagement photos was a special place to us. First, since we are both homebodies at times and seem to spend a lot of time in our apartment (especially during the cold winter months) either hanging out watching movies or hosting parties, we wanted to capture a few photos in our home with our pup. Next, since we love going on walks, we wanted to capture some photos at North Pond. We always say it’s our little secret, because it’s never overcrowded with people and it’s tucked away from the street and is surrounded by trees! It’s so quaint and romantic and we love going on walks around the pond. Lastly, we wanted to capture some photos by the water. Being on Lake Michigan makes Chicago such a special city, and since we lived in the Lakeview neighborhood, we spent a lot of time by the water either biking along the lakeshore path, running or going to the beach in the summer. We often went to the beachfront in the evenings to unwind from the hustle and bustle of city living. When it came to photography, we were immediately drawn to the magical and airy feel that Britta’s photography has. Her work is timeless and just simply beautiful. Once we met her energetic/fun personality, we were sold! She truly made our engagement session so special. When it came to our outfits, we knew we wanted them to be timeless with a subtle touch of elegance. We chose classic colors and luxe fabrics/textures with lace, chiffon and pearls. Now, since we have moved from Chicago, we look back on these photos with even more happiness, reminded of all of our favorite memories in our favorite city!

Wedding Plans: Although Michael and I both love the city, we have a special place in our hearts for the country since we grew up there. We’ve decided a countryside wedding was how we wanted to celebrate our special day. There’s something so beautiful and relaxing about being surrounded by the outdoors and only hearing the humming of birds and the breeze in the trees. We’re having our ceremony and reception at a beautiful estate in Nebraska, where our nearest and dearest will celebrate under a white tent. We want all aspects of our wedding to be elegant, timeless and bespoke with shades of white and ivory, gold and all white flowers with greenery galore. August 8, 2015 can’t come soon enough!

From Ann & Kam Photography & CinemaPaige and Ryan’s wedding was one of the prettiest weddings we have ever seen in Chicago. Surrounded by her childhood friends, Paige prepared for the day that they had all been imagining since they were little girls. One by one, everything came together. Lace, sparkles, pale pink flowers – everything was perfect.

Ryan, of course, was cool as a cucumber as Paige arrived in Lincoln Park in a fabulous Lincoln Hotel pedicab to meet him. From that point on, the rest of the day passed in a whirlwind. Kam and I were pretty much in love with every square inch of A New Leaf – from the exposed brick to the magical courtyard, it quickly became one of our favorite places in the City. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by the amazing scents of A New Leaf’s flower shop, and it’s impossible not to be swept away by romance. We also have to mention the amazing caterers – Hearty Boys – who were so professional and thoughtful, they were simply a delight to work with!

It’s hard not to be when you have LK Events on your side, along with a gorgeous taffeta Amsale dress, navy Kate Spade pumps, and bold blooms from Stems.  Thankfully there’s a whole gallery ripe for the ogling thanks to Evan Hunt Photography.

Lincoln Park Proposal

You know what makes me happy?  A sweeter than sweet proposal.  A sweeter than sweet proposal set against a breathtaking Windy City backdrop featuring one seriously adorable duo, the fabulous stylings of CityGirl Weddings and a whole lot of l.o.v.e.  It’s beautiful decor from Life Made Pretty meets happily ever after and you can see it all captured by the amazing Ann & Kam Photography & Cinema right here in the full gallery.

From Ann & Kam Photography & Cinema… I am so excited to share the prettiest proposal we have ever seen! When Jim started planning how he would propose to Autumn, he knew just where to do it. Though they currently live on opposite sides of the country, in a few months they will be meeting in the middle with a move to Chicago. Their new home seemed like the perfect place to surprise Autumn with the perfect proposal.

It didn’t take long, however, for him to realize that planning something special from across the country wouldn’t be easy. Jim enlisted the help of CityGirl Weddings to help him create something truly special. Shar from CityGirl brought in some amazing partners, including Life Made Pretty, who provided the gorgeous florals and the perfect, romantic, setup. It was truly like a dream, one of the most romantic proposals we have ever seen! We were absolutely blown away!

Jim and Autumn started out with dinner at North Pond restaurant. As they finished, they walked up through Lincoln Park where they were serenaded by a guitar player, and on to this romantic setting where Autumn found a bottle of champagne and a personal poem that Jim wrote just for her. Jim got down on one knee, and of course, Autumn said yes!

From Eileen Marie of Buena LaneI met Ed and Laura at a Carmel wedding a few years ago. They are the type of friends you’re happy to know– fun-loving, caring, genuine. And Ed has a laugh that will make the whole room laugh along with!  A few months ago they were engaged and moved to the Midwest.  I was thrilled to shoot their Chicago engagement session.

What fun we had running around the Windy City! We started out, bright and early at the Bean in Millennium Park. We beat the crowd and caught some gorgeous morning light off the lake. From there, we headed to Lincoln Park. Even though the day was unseasonably cold, we were happy to see the blossoms had still made it out. Later in the day, we wrapped it up with burgers and local brew at the Public House… and of course, the iconic shot in front of the Chicago Theatre!

From Christopher|F Photography… Christine and Eric wanted to capture their engagement session in the beautiful Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago and what better place than the park itself and along the lake front. The light was beautiful as it peaked in and around the different structures we visited. Ending the evening out by the pier to capture the essence of the city as well as the love of the couple.

These two met in college at Iowa and came to Chicago a few years ago. They will be wed next year back home in Iowa!

Lincoln Park Wedding at Maxim’s from Studio Finch

I’m kind of obsessed with this Lincoln Park wedding.  And by “kind of obsessed,” I mean I really, really am. Because not only is it one of the sweetest days you’ll ever lay your eyes upon, it’s one of those weddings that just exudes love.  A love that is literally pouring out of every nook and cranny.  And when you combine a plethora of drop-dead gorgeous details (hello amazing Asrai Garden florals) with all of that l.o.v.e, it makes for one seriously amazing Monday.  See every joy-filled moment captured by Studio Finch in the full gallery.

From the Bride… The theme came naturally once we found Maxims! Modeled after the famous Maxims in Paris, by the Bertrand Goldberg and his wife Nancy, the venue has amazing history. It is completely decked out in Art nouveau details and original prints so we worked off of that. We loved working with Asrai Garden to incorporate fruit and create “still lifes” with our florals. We had the ceremony in the park since it was walking distance for guests and allowed us to be outdoors for part of the day.

We wanted our wedding to first and foremost be a fantastic party where everyone had a great time. Good food, music, and dancing were a huge priority! We also wanted to support local artists and businesses and were able to work with a lot of our talented friends in town. The vision also extended throughout the weekend since we had a lot of people traveling from out of town – we had a rehearsal dinner party for everyone on Friday and cooked brunch on Sunday morning to round it out! We somehow had the superhuman energy to pull it all off without a wedding planner and we were beyond happy with how everything came together.

Chicago Cafe Brauer Wedding from Gerber + Scarpelli Photography

Two things that make me happy?  Gerber + Scarpelli Photography and Cafe Brauer weddings.  When I see one (or both) of those names pop up on my computer screen, I know it’s going to be a very good day. (Emphasis on very.)  So when I first spotted this gorgeous traditional soiree, I swear to you, an all caps JOY consumed my body.  And I have the aforementioned lovelies, beautiful blooms from The Flower Firm and a whole lot of pretty planned by Blossom Eventz to thank.  Did I mention it was going to be a very good day?!?  Join me in the gallery for more.

From Gerber + Scarpelli PhotographyKatie and Chris tied the knot on a chilly autumn day. This wedding was truly a family affair. We met up with Katie and her ladies at the couple’s condo in Lincoln Park. The bridesmaids surprised the bride by each reading a six part note from the groom. There was not a dry eye at the end of it.

The ceremony was held at the newly restored St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Lake View. It is truly one of the most breathtaking spaces in the city. Members of the bride’s extended family provided the music for the ceremony. All nine of the couple’s nieces and nephews preceded the bride and her father down the aisle.

After the ceremony, we all hoped on the party bus and headed downtown for a few pictures. Chris is a trader, so we had some fun shooting in front of the iconic Board of Trade. On our way back north, we stopped at North Pond and snapped a few pictures in the exact spot where Chris proposed to Katie the previous year.

Cafe Brauer is one of the most sought after venues in all of Chicago. An intimate space set on the South Pond in Lincoln Park. It is a stunning example of the Prairie School of Architecture. The reception was held in the ballroom on the second floor. Over a dozen homemade cakes graced the sweets table. All were made by a close friend of the bride. The colorful cakes were as scrumptious as they were beautiful. Flower Firm provided the decor and personal flowers. The orchids have to be some of the prettiest we’ve ever seen! The evening started with a few tears and many laughs (mostly at the groom’s expense). As the meal came to an end, Final Say took up their instruments and rocked it so hard the floor shook! It was the perfect wedding. Nobody could have asked for more!

From Dabble Me This  I’m beyond thrilled to share Kristi & Luke’s adorable Chicago engagement session with you! Let me tell you, these two are made for each other. They have it all… a lust for life, each other and an amazing urban J.Crew style! To top the cake Luke searched San Francisco, New York and Texas for the perfect engagement ring! Kristi’s diamond is actually from the 1900s and I could not believe how stunning it was! Luke also mentioned the sapphires mean fidelity and are for Kristi’s eyes- which he admits is his favorite things about her.

I hope you fall in love with the details of their shoot as much as I did, I think this shoot suited them so well. Plus the light was beyond stunning and with a slight dusting of snow, it could not have been more perfect!

Chicago Wedding at Cafe Brauer from Erica Rose Photography

A classic Chicago wedding.  Is there anything better?  Not in my humble opinion.  I happen to get a little giddy every time I see a traditional soiree in the Windy City and this one captured by Erica Rose Photography is, put simply, outstanding.  Think a stunning Cafe Brauer setting, beautiful blue hues and a take-your-breath-away bridal bouquet from Kloekner’s and you’ll know exactly what I mean.  The best part?  These two sweeties are sooo in love and filled their day with sooo many special touches, you’ll be smiling from here to all eternity.  Join me in the gallery for all of the pretty.

From Erica Rose PhotographyI often feel blessed in and through my work, and usually that comes back to the wonderful couples that I work with. Karin & Alex are a perfect example of that. Two incredibly kind, genuine and really remarkable people, it was such a pleasure to document their wedding day!

Karin is one of those classic people… like Audrey Hepburn maybe? Both inside and out she is lovely and (as I anticipated!) her wedding was reflective of that. Along with that timeless theme, the wedding venue was Cafe Brauer in Lincoln Park, a Chicago classic.

One of the special personal touches of their day was during the ceremony when Karin and Alex each opened a tiny box to release a monarch butterfly. The butterflies were meant to be symbolic in memory of Karin’s parents, who sadly have both passed away.

Chicago History Museum Wedding from Amanda Hein Photography

With a ceremony + reception held at two of Chicago’s most iconic venues (St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Chicago History Museum) I knew this pretty-in-pink wedding had to be good! Amanda Hein Photography worked her magic, capturing the bride’s gorgeous custom Rivini gown, the beautiful blooms by Petal Play Design and every last detail coordinated by Tying the Knot. See it all in the full gallery!

From the Bride…Our wedding was a long time in the making. Kevin and I are high school sweethearts and celebrated our 6 year dating anniversary just before tying the knot. From the moment Kevin proposed (with an insanely gorgeous ring) I knew the exact vision I had for our big day. Anyone who knows me knows I am a serious romantic and just die for the color blush pink. When I first saw a blush, gray, and ivory wedding color combo it was love at first site. I really wanted the look and feel of our wedding to be soft, elegant romance. I wanted all the flowers to be lush and fluffy. Luckily Viv, our florist, totally understood my vision and made it come to life. I was obsessed with having peonies (my favorite flower) incorporated in the wedding but was told they were out of season. By a little luck and a whole lot of prayer, Viv was able to get me the most gorgeous peonies flown in from a tiny farm in Alaska. Seriously she is AMAZING. It totally made the day that much more special. I was so in love with my bouquet!

We wanted our guests to feel all the love that we felt on our day. We were married at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Chicago. I attended DePaul University as an undergrad and fell in love with the beauty of the church. Our reception took place at the Chicago History Museum in their Chicago Room. From the cocktails on the terrace to the classic and beautiful architecture of the building, it was perfect. The absolutely delicious dinner and dancing to the live band were icing on the cake for a truly idyllic day.

There were some truly memorable and magical moments from our wedding day. One of them was that our wedding weekend coincided with the Chicago Air and Water Show , so it was so cool to see the planes flying overhead while we were taking photos. Another favorite moment was hearing the speech my insanely talented sister and MOH gave, the absolute perfect combination of sweet, sassy, serious, and hilarious. She totally nailed it. By far though, my favorite part of the day was exchanging vows in front of our family, friends, and God committing ourselves to one another forever.
I could not be more grateful to all of our FABULOUS vendors. The day would not have been the same without you! I love watching our wedding video over and over reliving the most wonderful day of our lives.

Lincoln Park Engagement Session from Yazy Jo

When you’re as seriously stylish (+ stunning) as these two Chicago sweeties are, finding the perfect backdrop for your e-shoot isn’t exactly what I would call a necessity.  I mean, let’s face it… these two lovebirds could be swimming in a sea of white nothingness and would still look downright amazing.  But, when you add in a fabulous Lincoln Park setting and some Chicago skyline beauty, it takes it to a whole new level of pretty.  One that was captured in devastatingly gorgeous images by Yazy Jo and is filling our gallery with some serious pre-wedding bliss.  Join me there to soak it all in.

From the Bride… We started our session in Lincoln Park, which was an obvious choice of us. We live close by and love hanging out around the south pond and Lincoln Park Zoo. It’s such a refreshing oasis in the middle of the hectic city, not to mention, it’s where we got engaged!  We then headed downtown. We didn’t have any particular plan in mind, but knew Yazy would do a wonderful job capturing our amazing city and telling our story.  Thanks to Yazy, the day was perfect.  We capped it off by going to dinner where we had our first date.

Chicago Engagement Session at Lincoln Park from Brosnan Photographic

You know you have a keeper when he proposes to you on his birthday instead of going out and partying with the boys. Now that’s romantic! Brosnan Photographic captured this adorable couple as they revisited the very place where he popped the question and you can see all their lovely images right here in the full gallery.

From Brosnan PhotographicThe Lily Pond at Lincoln Park in Chicago was the perfect spot for Felicia and Anthony’s engagement shoot. It was a relaxing spot for Felicia when she lived in the city. Anthony proposed to Felicia on his birthday at the top of a parking garage where they used to go up to the top to look out at the city skyline. Now abandoned and shut down, we were determined to commemorate the moment with a few last photos for them to cherish, so we sneaked up to the top.

From markit photography Michael and Tawnya reached out to me late this summer summer about their upcoming June 2013 wedding. We met and knew we wanted to get engagement pictures done this fall. The original session was scheduled for early November, but we decided to bump it up to better capture fall’s beautiful colors. Boy, are we glad we did! It was so incredibly gorgeous around the park (albeit a little chilly), and the colors were still so vivid. My favorite part is they were up for anything! Even as I asked them to do a quick dance or a walk through the farmers market. It was just so them. I simply cannot wait to reconnect next summer for their wedding as I have no doubt it will be just as fun, relaxed and beautiful as their engagement shoot turned out to be.

Lake Forest Wedding at Elawa Farm from Angela Renee Photography

Similar to the foundation for marriage, everything on a farm grows from the root up and then blossoms into something beautiful, just like this farm fête by Angela Renee Photography. Speaking of blossoms, I cannot stop crushing over the happy bridal bouquet by ArtQuest Ltd. and love the original guest book idea that this couple came up with. It’s a very good sign when it’s too hard to pick which photo’s to feature because there are just too many good ones. So be sure to head to the full gallery for all.

From the Bride… Our wedding took place in Lake Forest, Illinois, at a farm built in 1917. Nestled in the heart of Chicago’s north shore, I knew Elawa Farm was the perfect location to say “I do” to my best friend. Stephen and I wanted our wedding to represent who we are: fun, classy, laid-back and simple. With a rustic chic theme in mind, mason jars, burlap table runners and family heirlooms turned our dream into a reality. Almost all of our decorations were antiques borrowed from my mother’s house. Instead of having a traditional guestbook, I came up with the idea to have a timeline of pictures of Stephen and me. Guests were asked to write a note near the date of when they first met the bride or groom. For example, Stephen’s aunt wrote a sweet note next to the year he was born. To save money on flowers, we opted for mason jars, candles and small rocks as our centerpieces. I wanted to do something different from the traditional ring bearer pillow, so my talented brother made a personalized ring holder out of a thick slice of wood.

Most people would agree that having a July outdoor wedding in Chicago is risky, if not down right idiotic. We decided to take that chance and hope Mother Nature would be on our side. Little did we know it was going to be the second hottest July in Chicago history. But on the day of our wedding, the 100 degree heat wave broke and we were able to celebrate in comfortable 80 degree weather.

Everything about our wedding was better than we could have imagined. The whole day was filled with so much love, laughter and happiness that there was no room for tears. Even as I walked down the aisle, I couldn’t keep my excitement inside as I waved and squealed to all of our beaming guests. Being able to celebrate our love and commitment with our closest friends and family is something Stephen and I will cherish forever. It was the most special day of our lives, and all Stephen and I could talk about the next day was how much fun we had. We are thrilled to start this journey together and feel so grateful for all of life’s amazing blessings.

From Samantha Simmons PhotographySean is a Kansas City native, and Liz is from Texas. They met in Chicago and fell in love with each other and their neighborhood. They both live in Logan Square, a wonderful vibrant neighborhood in Chicago. The wedding was on a rainy day where the forecast showed no signs of letting up. The ceremony took place in their local coffee shop, Bang Bang Pie, where string bulbs and lanterns decorated the backyard. Minutes before the ceremony was to start, the rain magically stopped and the sun came out strong and beautiful. After a touching and sweet ceremony outdoors, guests where treated to slices of pie and coffee. Family friends played music for the guests outdoors while the bride and groom milled about.

Heading to the reception, the bride and groom surprised their parents with pedicabs to take them to their next destination. The newlyweds, however, rode their bikes which was extremely fitting (and quite impressive in such a beautiful wedding dress!). The reception was held at a local brewpub in Chicago called Revolution Brewing. There was beer, pretzels, and more beer while all of the guests chatted with each other. The speeches and dancing went long into the night. This wedding was by far one of the most intimate and magical weddings I have ever been lucky enough to be a part of. Everything, from the handmade, Chicago-themed coffee wedding favors to the family photos around the bar, was very special to see.

Emily and Chris met growing up in Evanston, Illinois, but it wasn’t until a few years after high school that they reconnected and fell in love. From the get-go, they knew they wanted a relaxed and fun wedding celebration. Café Brauer, surrounded by the beautiful Lincoln Park Zoo and gardens, was the perfect location for their summertime nuptials. They worked with Joan of Five Grain Events to put together a celebration that captured the essence of all that natural beauty.

Emily and Chris got ready at Hotel Lincoln just across the park from Café Brauer. It is a very cool and funky hotel, and the location couldn’t have been more perfect. The ever-wonderful Livia Caporale and Tiffany Berry of Flawless by Tiffany were on hand to beautify the lovely ladies. Rain had been threatening all day, but luckily it held off.  Emily and Chris shared their first look, captured by Shane Welch, just outside of Hotel Lincoln. Chris’s great-uncle was THE Alfred Caldwell of the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pond in Lincoln Park. It was the perfect location for bridal party photos: both meaningful and fitting with the Emily’s natural aesthetic. Emily’s gorgeous bouquet was created by Scarlet Petal. Emily wanted her flowers to reflect the foliage surrounding her wedding venue. The bridesmaids carried clouds of baby’s breath for a more whimsical look.

Emily and Chris’s ceremony was very well thought-out: a true reflection of the two of them. Marian Hale officiated, and Choice Music Chicago provided the lovely music. Following the ceremony, guests made their way out onto the North Loggia for cocktails. Blue Plate passed delectable hors d’oeuvres while Emily and Chris’s friends and family mingled and chatted over their beverage of choice. The bride and groom chose Flour Cake & Pastry to create the masterpiece of a cake. Each of the sugar flowers had either a slight yellow or slight green tint to them to reflect the color scheme. As dinnertime approached, guests headed into the Great Hall for dinner. Blue Plate readied their food stations featuring steamed seasonal vegetables, Mediterranean-inspired fish and chicken dishes and a delicious pasta dish oozing with fresh mozzarella. Emily and Chris’s friends and family toasted the couple’s happiness. Despite the nearly 200 guests in attendance, it truly felt like an intimate affair. Following the delicious meal, Emily and Chris took to the dance floor, and their guests followed shortly thereafter. Rachel from Toast & Jam DJs kept the music flowing, and everyone had a great time! Before the end of the evening, Shane Welch stole the bride and groom for a quick nighttime photo session.

From Kristin La Voie PhotographyAmber and Nolan tied the knot August 25th at the beautiful St. Clement Church in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. Having photographed their beautiful engagement session, which was also featured on Style Me Pretty, I KNEW this wedding would be one for the books! Amber found me on Style Me Pretty, so it was only fitting that every aspect was so well-planned and executed with the colors and feeling of everything. These two just beam with happiness, and love radiates from them for each other. We had an amazing time touring Chicago and celebrating with floating lanterns in the evening.

Lincoln Park Proposal + Wedding by Joshua Albanese Photography

It’s no secret that we’re all suckers for love stories around these parts. That’s why we love getting stories like this-from the surprise proposal all the way to the I Do’s. This sweet couple chose one fabulous, not to mention super fragrant, location for their big day and we’re head over heels for all the pretty images by Joshua Albanese Photography. Join us right here in the full gallery for even more!

From Joshua Albanese PhotographyWe love Roy and Kass, not just because they’re a great couple, but also because they have the distinction of being the first couple we have photographed from “Yes!” to “I Do!” Roy first contacted us when he was planning his surprise proposal to Kassidy – he had an elaborate plan devised and wanted us to help capture her reaction. Kass had no idea, and she was certainly surprised when Roy dropped to one knee in front of A New Leaf and offered her a stunning solitaire engagement ring from Tiffany. Joshua, posing as the typical Chicago tourist, captured everything from his post across the street.

Almost a year later, we all gathered again at A New Leaf to celebrate their marriage. We’re so glad Roy and Kass chose to hold their wedding and reception here – A New Leaf is quite possibly one of the coolest (and most fragrant) venues we’ve been to in downtown Chicago. They not only offer exotic arrangements and flowers by the stem, but there’s also a room with cacti and succulents, a wall packed with a rainbow of candles, and a second building where we found everything from driftwood and river stones to vintage tile. Nestled between the two buildings is a small courtyard filled with antique plant stands, small sitting areas, and seemingly a thousand terra cotta pots. We were a little sad to hear that they would be closing for 2013 for renovations, but we can’t wait to see the improvements they make!

Roy and Kass picked the Hotel Lincoln, just around the corner from A New Leaf, for their wedding preparations. The vibe at the Hotel Lincoln is a mix of eclectic and vintage 1950’s cool, making us feel like we were on a set of Mad Men. There were a number of great locations inside the hotel for photos, and we made sure to take advantage of the gallery wall on the staircase for Roy and Kass’s first look. The second floor featured an almost empty lobby full of period furniture that we also couldn’t resist. Despite the rain, Roy and Kass decided to do a quick photo walk to take photos at some of their favorite Chicago locations. Roy carried the 1950’s vibe through the photo shoot, channeling Gene Kelly in “Singin in the Rain” for what was my favorite image from the day. Back at A New Leaf, Roy and Kass’s closest friends and family gathered upstairs for the ceremony. Love, support and happiness filled the room, warming the wood floors and exposed brick walls. While we were upstairs witnessing Roy and Kass’s union, the team from Corky’s Catering was downstairs putting the final touches of yellow and gray to the reception décor. Bouchon Bakery provided the gorgeous tiered cake that featured delicate petals cascading down the sides.

We have heard nothing but great things about the DJ Roy and Kass selected, Toast and Jam. They are an all-girl company, and they spun some of the best sets we’ve ever heard at a wedding. We also loved the music direction Roy and Kass gave – can you still remember the lyrics to Salt n’ Pepa’s “Shoop” too? At the end of the night, Joshua still hadn’t gotten all of those terra cotta pots out of his head, so we stole Roy and Kass away for a few quick shots in the courtyard before we said our goodbyes.
