Savannah, Georgia just happens to be one of my most favorite places ever, so when I saw this little beauty on the calendar, I pretty much jumped for joy. And how can you blame me? Just look at these gorgeous images from Angela Cox Photography. The Spanish moss, the antique wrought iron fences, gorgeous old doors (yes, doors can be gorgeous!) and pretty little park benches all add up to e-session perfection. Click here for more.

Jekyll Island Surprise Proposal by Sarah DeShaw Photography

Ok, I officially can’t get over how adorable this post is. Proposals just make me weak in the knees. I can never get enough of them. And when there just happens to be a lovely photographer like Sarah DeShaw there to capture it all, we all get to gush about it together! See even more here!

From the Groom… From the moment we came into each other’s lives, this verse from Ephesians 3:20 has described every little detail of our relationship: “Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or imagine.” As we reflect back on God’s purposeful timing, we are in awe of how He directed our love story down to the second as part of His plan for our lives because of His infinite love for us as His children. Leading up to now we often say our relationship has been storybook. Since the author of this story is the Almighty God, then its no wonder the surprises keep getting better. Little moments will happen and I’ll just turn to Mattye and say “storybook.” She grins and gives me one of those smiles I love. Originally I had thought about asking Mattye to be in my life forever on my birthday. I mean who would really be getting the best gift of all on that day? God gave me all the help and blessing I could ask for by allowing the ring to be ready one day before we would leave for our trip to St. Simons. During our second day of the trip we met with David Yarborough, pastor of SSCC, to hear his heart for weddings and offer him our vision of a Godly marriage we desire to have. We talked with him about past life experiences with family and described what we thought the other really needed in a husband or a wife. He gave us the book Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas and posed the question, “What if marriage isn’t just about finding happiness, but was truly created to make us more Holy through sanctification?” Interesting question, we both thought. We believe God plants traits within us to bring our partner closer to HIM.

On the last day of our trip in the final hours of daylight we drove over to Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island. The sun was still hanging around in the sky and a view of sunset was growing near. We met up with our friends and photographers Sarah and Brent Deshaw. Mattye didn’t know it, but I had been in contact with them sharing my plan for the proposal and orchestrating for them to photograph the special moment. All four of us walked along the driftwood trees stepping over and under branches. It was really an amazing setting, almost like a movie set. Brent and Sarah suggested we go exploring, and this was the beginning of some natural cues to come. We walked along the beach holding each other as the sun dipped lower in the sky. Sarah positioned us in some very relaxed poses, but I was a little tense. I just kept holding onto Mattye, saying I love you and giving her kisses. Finally, the moment appeared. I said I believe that 33 years, and one day ago God had knit me together with talents and longings and a purpose. He birthed me out into this world to glorify HIM with all that I am. I believe he did not create me to be alone. I reminded Mattye that on Sunday she asked me if she would be happy in five days and I said no. Our time and prayers leading up to this moment were perfect. She wasn’t expecting a proposal and I believed she had given up control of this thing to me and God to let us handle the right timing. I talked about my heart definition of who she is. Then I told her that I could not tell her she would be happy in five days because in four days I was going to ask her to marry me. I got down on one knee and pulled the little black felt box from my pocket and said, “Mattye Caroline LaSuer, will you be in my life forever?” She covered her face and came toward me to kiss me. Then she paused to look down at the sparkling new ring that was meant for her finger. When she saw it for the first time her mouth dropped open. She finally let me take the ring and put it on her finger. We jumped, laughed, hugged, kissed, and praised our God through whom all this was possible.

From the Bride… David and I met for the first time at an interview for Bridgestone (for the same job!) in Nashville, Tennessee, in November of 2007. Well, it turns out we both got the job, and we spent the next three months traveling across the country together for work. We became very close friends, but were not “romantically” attracted … or at least I wasn’t! David spent the next couple years in Nashville, while I was transferred to Iowa and then Chicago. We always stayed in contact with each other, but at the beginning of 2010, David started to call a lot more often… During a surprise visit to Chicago in February, David convinced me we should move from “just friends” to dating. After that, we spent almost every other weekend together despite living 500 miles apart. In November, I took a job in Nashville to be closer (and because the thought of another winter up north terrified me!). In April, David proposed while we were in my parents’ living room in Georgia for the Masters. Our wedding day was the happiest day of my life — I got to marry my best friend and enjoy it with all of my amazing friends and family! We look forward to seeing what’s in store for our future as husband and wife!

From Simply Savannah EventsInside the typewriter there was a note that welcomed the guests to sign a piece of fabric and share their well wishes to the bride and groom. After the wedding, the bride’s grandmother sewed all of the pieces together to make a quilt with their monogram in the middle of it. The favors were recipe mixtures of confetti bean soup, hush puppies and jambalaya. Just as the ceremony was over, all the guests went inside the house and up to the covered patio. All the outside photos were finished, the band began to play and everyone started dancing, then the sky opened up and it started to rain, thunder and lighting! No one seemed to mind though, and the bride and groom smiled and kept dancing! They stayed at one of the Savannah Villas on Broughton Street and enjoyed the St. Patty’s Day Parade the day after the wedding! They wanted their wedding to be on St. Patty’s Day weekend so that their friends and family could enjoy one of the BIGGEST parades in the nation. Their villa was right on the parade route. Savannah sure knows how to put on a big St. Patty’s Day!

Love Floats Engagement Session by Gracie Blue Photography

I am constantly in awe and amazed by the creative ways our couples express and celebrate their love.  This “Love Floats” session captured by Gracie Blue Photography is one of the most adorable I’ve seen.  A fun, modern balloon shoot kicks everything off in Atlanta followed by a romantic hot air balloon ride for two!  So sweet!  See the entire perfect day in the full gallery!

Click here for the FULL engagement session!

From Gracie of Gracie Blue PhotographyMatt wanted to propose to Christina on a hot air balloon. But due to inclement weather he was unable to do so. They decided to incorporate the idea into their engagement session. The theme of this session was “love floats.” The two are perfect for one another. Shooting this two part engagement session was a dream. Whenever I needed a sweet smile from Christina, all I had to do was mention Matt and how she felt the day he proposed. She immediately lit up. Matt was really sweet on her as well. He’s got that old fashioned charm — a real gentleman who looks after his lady in every situation. It was very refreshing.

The first part of the session was shot in Atlanta, Georgia at the High Museum of Art. We had balloons on hand and a bottle with their wedding date, which I painted by hand. We then hurried over to a nearby bridge that had the Atlanta skyline in the background and magic happened. I popped out my instant camera for a few souvenir goofy shots. The second half of the session took place in North Georgia in a field. The miniature bottle was also crafted by me. It has the word “cheers” on it as a nod to Matt and Christina. They say “cheers” before each and every meal. It’s their “thing,” and it’s quite adorable. The “LOVE” balloon sign was also made by me. I have a background in graphic design.

They were both quite nervous before the big flight on the balloon. They walked around and inspected the balloon and looked up as the balloon and a neighboring balloon filled up. We took a few shots of some love notes they’ve collected during their relationship. They were both very excited. The thing that stood out the most that afternoon was the way Matt held her before the balloon took off. And that’s when it all came full circle — Love floats!

From the Bride… I firmly believe that Atlanta is biggest small town out there. Daniel went to UNC and I went UGA for undergrad, and when we met in Atlanta five years after graduation we had no idea that our circle of friends overlapped in so many ways. Given that our friends and family are not scared of having a good time, we knew our wedding would not be a disappointment no matter what planning decisions we made.

I had always figured I would have a Charleston wedding after spending all my summers growing up at my grandparents house on King Street, but after one millisecond of planning I realized there was no way I could juggle work and planning a destination wedding. Therefore my requirements were that my venue had to be a part of Atlanta’s history and full of southern sophistication. The solution: The Georgian Terrace Hotel. The art deco tile in the cocktail foyer literally screamed my name when I first visited. Early on I knew my absolute favorite part of the planning was going to be the invitations. I have a major stationery addiction and Callie at Calliespodence (who is also a friend from college) designed the most gorgeous wedding invitations that included a custom liner made to perfectly match our reception table runners.

When we chose a January date, I was elated that I finally had the right occasion deserving of my grandmother’s vintage fox stole. Little did I know that I would wake up on our wedding day to 75 degree temperatures and tornado warnings. Surprisingly, I was extremely calm about it all! Luckily the rain stopped and clouds parted right before pictures. My style is simple, classic, and southern, and our priority was that our wedding was not a complicated affair. Our ceremony was the kind where everyone (including me and Daniel) laughed and cried — it could not have been more “us” or more perfect. I was a bride on a budget and joked that my wedding planner was anyone who was willing to help! Fortunately one of my close mentors also happens to be a very talented Atlanta hostess and designer who, along with giving me wonderful advice, loaned me her classic black and cream toile tablecloths, which set the stage for everything else. My sweet mother-in-law sewed additional custom runners for the tables, and Denise at TruSo Weddings did a beautiful job understanding my unique request for paperwhites and boxwood centerpieces. Our cake was delicious and although I’m biased, I think it the best I have ever had. My goal was for people to dance, and they did — all night, literally — right down to my 84-year-old grandmother refusing to leave the dance floor. My favorite detail was our end of night favor: hot and fresh Chick-fil-A chicken biscuits. Nothing is better than a hot chicken biscuit after a night of champagne and dancing! The best part of the wedding is that both Daniel and I had the BEST time and enjoyed every second. All in all, I can honestly say there is absolutely nothing I would have changed or done differently. It was the perfect day!

From Alea of Alea Moore PhotographyRosemary and Marc are both international, so their wedding was focused on bringing the places where they were from and have traveled to. Along with most of their guests who were from abroad. I felt indulged in culture throughout their day.

From the Bride… So many favorite parts of the day. But the best was probably seeing my two non-English speaking sets of parents getting jiggy with it on the dance floor! I have never seen my dad do more than the sixth-grade sway — ever! And just seeing all my friends and family enjoying themselves with the music and the food.

Trees Atlanta Photo Shoot by Estoria Social + Robin Nathan Photography

I can get on this bandwagon and I bet my bottom dollar most of you will be on board too. It’s all about the lovely blend of nuptials and giving back to the environment; an Earth Day Wedding inspired shoot to be more exact. Estoria Social infused thoughtful details from itty bitty potted succulent favors to a locally grown menu and possibly the best detail of all, Trees Atlanta Kendeda Center, a local non-profit that served as a mighty fine backdrop for a wedding celebration. This is green, green love at its finest all captured by Robin Nathan Photography. See more of the shoot right here!

From Jaimie of Estoria SocialA local non-profit with a mission to “protect and improve Atlanta’s urban forest,” Trees Atlanta plants trees in needed areas all over the the city and works to promote community involvement and provide education and conservation of existing landscapes. Its headquarters are located at the Kendeda Center in Atlanta’s historic Cabbagetown neighborhood. We imagined our bride and groom as volunteers who met while planting trees, bonding over their shared interest in conservation and greening their environment. The pair fell in love and set out to marry on Earth Day to honor their commitment to each other and to the environment. A large part of the inspiration for this shoot came from an art installation created by local Atlanta artist Brandon Ross situated at the center of the venue. The mirrored tree sculpture extends its branches over the center of the room, which, when combined with the center’s planted trees and organic greenscape, creates a perfect setting for a modern, yet natural reception theme. We focused on sourcing all of our materials, vendors, and food from local businesses and added DIY touches with a decidedly modern twist. The result was our “urban forest” theme, what we thought of as a new twist on a woodland wedding, combining symbols of the natural environment with contrasting, pizazz-worthy, modern accents.

Invitations and other paper goods were created by local stationer Becky Scheel in a “tree of love” theme.  Becky created a save-the-date and invitation featuring the couple’s “Earth Day” wedding date, and an RSVP card, map, details card, program, menu, and favor tag in the same theme, along with a beautiful, hand-stamped, botanical mailing envelope. Our couple set their ceremony in front of a tree in the venue’s beautiful back courtyard, as a symbol of their growing love and a reflection of the story of their meeting. Our bride wore the Lela Rose “Secret Garden” dress, which was generously provided by local bridal boutique Kelly’s Closet. After the ceremony, guests signed a wooden plank guest book and were greeted with signature cocktails in “happy” glasses. They snacked on hor d’oeurves from beloved local eatery and caterer Sun in My Belly Catering & Neighborhood Cafe and treats from Little Tart Bakeshop, all featuring local, sustainable (and yummy) ingredients. Each guest received a locally-grown, potted succulent as a favor to plant in their home garden as a reminder of our couple’s special day.

We designed a five-sided polygonal head table around the mirrored tree sculpture, matching the metallics of the sculpture with silver dinner plates and cutlery. Sprays of pale peach garden roses, colorful succulents, bright hellebore, eucalyptus, rice flowers and lots of foraged greenery crowned each two-top portion of the head table along with tea light candles in squat, decorative mason jars. Guest tables were also set with silver dinner plates and centerpieces made from recycled bottles and cans (soda bottles, wine bottles, soup cans and other previously-used glass containers), spray painted metallic chrome to match the silver of the tree sculpture. The guest table greenery reflected the estate tables with touches of peach garden roses, deep green leaves and succulents, accented by handmade hypertufa earthenware spherical and heart-shaped sculptures and tealights perched on little round tree cuts. Smaller succulents in handmade hypertufa pots sat atop each dinner plate as place cards. Later, the couple served ice cream from the Westside Creamery truck, a local purveyor of sinfully sweet, locally-sourced chilled goods, as a satisfying late night snack. The couple also used the ice cream truck later to escape in style at the end of the evening.

From the Bride… Judson and I are both pretty private people, and we knew wanted a very small, intimate group. So we decided to have our wedding at a remote venue, preferably in a garden setting. After searching for several months, we visited Barnsley Gardens Resort, and we both instantly knew that this was the place! Stacy Price, our coordinator at Barnsley, was tremendously helpful in insuring we got the wedding of our dreams. We wanted the entire wedding to very small, but very beautiful, unique and elegant. I wanted to be surrounded by flowers – very elegant and visually spectacular. Maxine and Garbrielle Mecca of Edge Design took my mental image of what I wanted and created an amazingly beautiful Barnsley Gardens Resort ceremony site, a cocktail reception site in the Historic Ruins, as well as the lavish and lush décor for the Dinner and Dancing Reception. Also, I did not want one large cake. I wanted something different, so we decided on 3 small but exquisite cakes, arranged on antique pedestals. Sharon Alexander of Sweet Sensations, Inc. was AMAZING!  The cakes were more than I dreamed of!

We decided to “swap” the sides for the seating at the ceremony. The Groom’s family was seated on the left; my family was seated on the right. This insured that each family could see the FACE of their child, rather than their back, as is the typical setup. It was a wonderful idea! It was especially meaningful to occasionally catch a glimpse of my family during the ceremony and see the joy on their faces! I wanted my own very special wedding gown, but I also wanted to honor my Mom by using hers in some way. Edge Design Group helped out by creating the most gorgeous table cloth, using lace from my Mom’s gown. This table cover was used at the cake table and was a very special tribute to my Mom. We also used one of the lace cuffs from her gown to wrap the stems of my bridal bouquet. So although I was not wearing my Mom’s gown, a part of it was with me throughout the entire ceremony. We wanted to have family photographs taken before the wedding, so that our guests would not have to wait so long at the cocktail reception. But we didn’t want to lose that unique, special moment when Judson and I first saw each other in our wedding finery. So Edge Design Group created the most unbelievable space for our “First Look.” They took the Bamboo Garden at Barnsley and turned it into a fairy tale garden spot just for the two of us … with an exquisite crystal chandelier and a beautifully-draped table for two with champagne, flowers and candles everywhere! A dream “First Look” beyond our imaginations!

One of the most touching moments was when we saw the “Family Photographs” table in the Ruins. My mom had brought my portrait that was painted when I turned two years old. She had borrowed Judson’s portrait that was painted when he turned four years old, and these portraits were hanging in the Barnsley Gardens Historic Ruins above the family photo table. My mom’s bridal headpiece and veil were beautifully draped over a corner of my portrait — this was an incredibly tender and touching moment!  And the most amazing thing of all is that Judson’s portrait and mine were painted by the same artist in exactly the same year (he was 4, I was 2, and he is 2 years older than me), using the same setting (seated on an ottoman) and framed in the exact same frames! It looked as if these portraits had been designed to be alike — but they were each done independently of the other, 22 years earlier!  Something tells us this was meant to be! FATE! Our first dance was to “Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat — they sum up our feelings exactly:  So lucky we’re in love with our best friend … so lucky we’re in love in every way!

From the Bride… I met Brendan on September 20, 2008. It was the end of my time in San Diego, pursuing my Master’s degree, and we were set up on a blind date by the casting director of the theatre where we were both working. It was a formal event, and even though I had said many times that I would never date an actor again after the failures prior to meeting him, there was nothing I could do to prevent the head-over-heels effect that his sense of humor and bone-deep kindness had on me.

We had been living in Brooklyn for a little over a year when he surprised me one night by kneeling in front of our couch, and proposing with a stunning, unique ring that he had secretly designed and had made in my size. It was a dream come true. Our conversations had run back and forth on the topic of marriage since the beginning of our relationship, so as soon as we were engaged — literally that night! — we started planning. We knew we wanted to get married in Savannah, though neither of us had been there before, and got online to find the perfect weekend between spring rains and killer heat. Once we’d decided on April, 30, I set about researching the various bed & breakfasts in the city. Amazingly, Kehoe House, situated on Columbia Square, had a 360 degree video tour of the event space at the top of the building. It was perfect, with vaulted wood ceilings, wrought-iron chandeliers, exposed brick, and tons of Southern charm. And did I mention an eerie sense of its own history? We really loved the quirkiness underlying the city’s rich history. Since we were getting married in a public square, the rules were really strict about not being able to hang anything, or set any furniture on the grass. I found the rug that we stood on in an online sample sale on RueLaLa, and now it covers the floor in our living room. Little things like that really made the day so special. I think my favorite detail was at the reception, where we hung mason jars with thin rope from the eaves holding Spanish moss and electric tea lights in them. It gave the room an ethereal quality, and we were able to reuse them at another reception held several weeks later in my home town.

Even though I went shopping two weeks after we got engaged, found and ordered my dress, the last thing I did (ten days before my big day!) was find a new wedding dress. I’d been holding out hope that my original choice would be alterable to cover my five-month pregnant belly, but no such luck. It was fortuitous that I was in NYC, home of more wedding dresses than probably anywhere on earth. I wanted something that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, and that would show off my bump. Enter BCBG on the Upper East Side, where Janelle rocked my world by helping me (on my lunch hour!) try on every wedding dress in the store before finding the perfect choice. For a mere $268.00, I walked down the aisle in a dress that was soooo comfortable, sexy, classy, and played up all of my baby-belly curves. I couldn’t imagine having worn the other dress.

From the Bride… Our wedding was relaxing, unforgettable and blessed. We had personalized koozies made for the alcoholic beverages, and my mom made homemade grape jelly as the wedding favors. At the reception, we had burlap on the tables and a banner that read Happily Ever After. We were introduced at the reception to “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.” We had fried chicken tenders and shrimp and grits as part of the meal. For our flowers, I wanted chic romantic. Lots of neutral color tones with a small punch of color — ivory, pale yellow, soft pinks, greenery, browns. Very flowy, timeless and romantic. You get tired of a lot of color, but neutrals stay in style forever, and you never get tired of neutrals! My cake was by Cecilia Villaveces. I had a two-tier vanilla cake with alternating layers of strawberry and raspberry filling. I also had two round cakes beside it — one was caramel and the other was chocolate mocha. It gave everyone plenty of options. The most memorable moment of the day was exchanging our vows. Most people say they don’t remember much about the day. I can truly say I remember a great deal. I took myself back a bit so that I could relax and enjoy the day. We did a first glance, so the nerves were gone, but honestly, when you know you are marrying the love of your life, what’s there to be nervous about? Maybe the dating for 10 years helped out too!

From Cheryl of Artworks Wedding CinemaSally and Nathan’s beautiful fall wedding was definitely one of my favorites of the year. They had a small, intimate wedding and reception at Sally’s childhood home. The property was filled with trees, and with the leaves changing colors, they provided a stunning backdrop for their day. The overall theme of the wedding was an eclectic combination of 1940’s tribute with touches of natural elements throughout. The weather was amazing and allowed for a quiet dinner on the property’s terrace deck. After celebrating way into the night, the couple took off down a tunnel of sparklers.

Vinewood Surprise Wedding by Paperlily Photography

When Paperlily Photography sent this vintage shoot our way, we were immediately pulled in by the story behind the pretty images. Not only is it showcasing gorgeous outdoor inspiration with styling by The Funky Shack and bright punches of florals by Southern Stems but it also happens to be a surprise wedding for the Bride and Groom. A win win. How could we not love that? I definitely teared up when reading the description from the Bride. It’s so stinkin sweet and worthy of a read over your morning coffee followed by an immediate perusal of the full gallery. See it all here.

And a few snapshots from their engagement session pre-wedding. It’s a pretty dress, a gorgeous field and love for days…

From Christy of Paperlily PhotographyScott and Katie were great friends of ours who desperately wanted to get married. They had set multiple dates, but due to financial constraints, they were never able to keep them. We were in the process of planning our fall-inspired, stylized, wedding shoot. At some point a light bulb went off for us. Not only would Scott and Katie make great models for our stylized shoot, but the wedding they had tried for so long to plan was now within reach…

From the Bride… I woke up on November 22, 2011, just like I always do. I got ready and got in the car with my handsome fiancé, Scott, as we headed off to a place called Vinewood. We had been asked to do a photo shoot that day at this beautiful place — of course we couldn’t turn it down. Earlier that month, with budgets being tight, we decided that this November we would get married, no matter what. The courthouse was our venue of choice. Of course it’s not the wedding every girl dreams of, but my fiance was the man I had always dreamed of. With him by my side nothing else would matter. As long as I could say I do for forever to him, that’s all that I needed to make a perfect wedding day.

When we arrived at Vinewood, I felt as though we were in a different world. It was timeless, classic and so full of charm. We went met an amazing team of “wedding dream makers,” at least that’s what I call them. They had already made the place look fantastic. I went in the house and began to have my hair and makeup done. The whole time I kept thinking, “Oh, how I wish this was real.” I spent all day literally just being in love with my fiancé. The photographers set up a “first look” for us and I got to walk out and surprise Scott in an amazing Valentino wedding gown. He was speechless and so was I. We would be close, smile, kiss and look at each other. Then we would move across the beautiful venue to another location to do the same. It was magical. Scott kept asking if I thought there was any way we could get my dad, who is an ordained pastor, to marry us while we were dressed for the part. I said probably not, and that we could always remember this as our wedding day no matter what. At that point, the plan was to rush to the court when the shoot was over.

After another change of clothes and hair, we went out for out very last scene to shoot. It was the ceremony scene. Everyone seemed to be so nervous, running about, and getting ready. Someone even make a comment about how I was so calm. I pushed the comment aside and just thought, they must be very excited about this shoot since they put so much hard work into everything. I am standing at the doorway when they give me the go ahead to walk out and “down the aisle”. I started walking and then I heard it. The song I had planned to walk down the aisle to was playing — my heart began to race. I thought, “What a sweet touch to add.” It was then that I could see the smiling faces of my family friends staring at me. They had been let in while I was having my makeup retouched. I was surprised and confused, but I kept my eyes turned to Scott. He was more handsome than ever, smiling away. Any sort of nervousness I had just disappeared. As I approached my beloved the “stand in” pastor for the photo-shoot began to move. There was rustling behind me as if someone was getting up. It was my dad, and he now stood in front of Scott and me. We were really getting married! Tears streamed down Scott’s face, and I couldn’t decide if I was going to faint or get sick from the nerves and excitement. I was standing at the wedding of my dreams, marrying the man of my dreams, and until that very moment I could not have believed it possible. Even writing this today I still think this is the kind of story you see happen in the movies. Its hard for me to believe its real even now. A big thank you to the dream makers who made our dreams come true.

From the Bride… The wedding planning process was a roller coaster ride. It was very exciting, yet stressful and overwhelming all at the same time. Since we were planning on a budget, early in the process we sat down and made a list of the most important details to us and decided to focus most of our spending on those things. I consider myself a fairly crafty person and I love making things, so I then decided I wanted to try to handcraft as many smaller details of our wedding as possible. I made almost everything including our invitations, programs, boutonnieres, signage and even the table runners. Although it added a little more stress, there was a lot of satisfaction in knowing I had put so much thought, heart and effort into our special day. I also made sure to stop often during the stressful times and remind myself what the day is really about. It is NOT about the flowers, the cake, the candles, the dresses — at the end of the day, it is only about marrying the person you love.

I also made sure to let others help me — I feel like it makes the day that much sweeter. A bridesmaid’s mother made our wedding cake and it was one of the best cakes I had ever eaten! It was her great-grandmother’s pound cake recipe, so I know it brought her joy to be able to share it. I think the main goal for our wedding was for it to be very “us.” Our families and the two of us are very laid-back and very southern, so I really wanted that to come through in every detail.  That is what really inspired me.

Barnsley Gardens Wedding by Elle Golden Photography

This gorgeous garden wedding by Elle Golden Photography could easily have taken place on the grounds of a French chateau.  The lush gardens and ivy-covered, historic ruins conjure up visions of a whimsical, European fairytale.  Of course, the insanely lovely Parisian-inspired details that this couple dreamt up only heighten the overwhelming feeling of romance and wonder.  See them all in the full gallery!

From Leilani of Elle Golden PhotographyWelcome to Tim and Christina’s perfectly Parisian-inspired wedding. Working off a unique color palette of black, ivory, light gray, and peachy pinks, Christina brought the essence of France to the north Georgia foothills. It’s been a dream of hers for years to visit the city of romance, so it was obvious early on that she bring theme to their wedding. Christina’s love for details almost rivals her love for Tim. She spent months scouring thrift stores for many of the decor elements, such as the pretty book centerpieces, milk glass vases, and vintage champagne flutes. Personal touches were also scattered throughout the wedding venue — most notable were the tin vase engraved with Tim’s name and birthday from his newborn days and the DIY photo booth featuring the wedding photos from members of their families. Christina also spent hours handcrafting other eye candy, like the “B” initial of her new last name made from rolled pages torn from old books and the adorable “love and cheer” drink flags.

The romantic gardens of Barnsley Gardens provided the perfect backdrop for Tim and Christina’s first look. The moment was quiet and serene, and it’s obvious how much Tim adores his bride. For the ceremony, Ceremony Trends event designers and floral artists flawlessly executed an altar design inspired by a photograph Christina found online soon after she became engaged. Christina included her son and daughter in the wedding party, and they watched on with glee as their mother sealed her newfound happiness with a kiss.

For the reception, the staff at Barnsley Gardens transformed the historic ruins into a intimate sanctuary for the couple’s closest friends and family to celebrate. Because the ceremony began at noon, Christina and Tim opted for a brunch which included a touch of the South: cheesy grits and even an assortment of pies as guest favors. Their red velvet cake with whipped buttercream icing provided the perfect dessert on such a fair-weather day. After lots of dancing and photo booth fun, Tim took to the mic to grab everyone’s attention. He proceeded to surprise Christina by unveiling the honeymoon he’d been planning in secret since he popped the question. The only clue he’d give regarding the honeymoon was that they were staying at “Tim Hotel.” So when Christina opened a gift bag containing the book “Walt Disney World for Lovers,” she seemed a little confused yet content on visiting the happiest place on Earth with her new husband. But then he told her to open it. Inside the book was a flight itinerary to, you guessed it — Paris! As if that wasn’t enough, the whimsical afternoon ended with Tim revealing they were to leave the very next day (with nothing packed and a perfect excuse to shop in Paris!) and were staying at a place called TimHotel! Little did she know he was telling the truth the entire time! I would like to end by saying congratulations again to Tim and Christina. I absolutely adore these two and wish them nothing but happiness.

Endive Atlanta Photo Shoot by Courtney Khail Stationery and Design

When this fun, modern inspiration shoot came my way I was first struck by the super cool couple.  They are so chic and stylish and just a little bit edgy in the most perfect way.  Plus they are totally and obviously in love which makes these photos by Renee Brock Photography that much more awesome.  The watercolor and air plant inspiration that Courtney Khail Stationery and Design put together completely captures the same, fresh vibe with artsy, organic details.  There are so many creative and unique ideas to take away from this shoot from the ombre table runner to the drafting studio-inspired guest book table.  See it all in the full gallery!

From Courtney of courtney khail stationery and designOur models are actually designers who are married in real life. Six years ago they eloped in Las Vegas and never had the opportunity to take wedding photos together. While all of us vendors had a great time creating the shoot, we agreed that our favorite part of the whole day was seeing the love these two shared and being able to provide them both with a “wedding” and real wedding photos. There’s something incredibly special about creating something that celebrates true love.

The concept of this inspiration shoot evolved from a stationery design I created that consisted of various air plants. As a watercolor artist, I was immediately drawn to the subtle, unique color palettes air plants possess. I also loved their ability to be both structural and organic at the same time and wanted to create an event that would capture their unique qualities. Together with planner Jaimie Cohen of Estoria Social, we worked to make that vision come to life. We wanted to keep the shoot fresh and modern, taking inspiration from watercolors and air plants, while also introducing an underlying architectural theme to connect the plants with their surroundings. Before we knew it, we’d created a story about a couple who fell in love while studying architecture and wanted their wedding to incorporate their love for that, as well as their unique modern flair. In the end, we wanted to create a one-of-a-kind shoot that would inspire couples to try something different and encourage them to fully express themselves.

The watercolor invitation suite captured the various colors of the air plant, which are carried throughout the entire shoot. The graphic black ink brings in a modern touch and the handwritten wording adds an intimate touch. The bouquet was created by Amy Osaba and features large colorful air plants among brightly colored blooms. The different blooms bring in texture and mimic the bodice of the bride’s dress. The centerpiece consisted of a handmade balsa wood container painted to resemble an architectural metal beam and filled with a lush arrangement of various colored air plants and succulents. Modern meets organic by combining hand painted gold stemware with antique cream and gold place settings. Watercolor touches are brought in through the menus and table numbers, as well as a hand-dyed gray ombre runner. A watercolor escort card display further combines the industrial and organic themes. As a favor, each guest received an air plant at their seat. A simple white cake is decorated with air plants and displayed atop design books and an antique metal card catalog. Architectural drawings are tied off with gold ribbon and placed in a gold mesh container to reference the couple’s background. With the guest book table, we wanted to evoke the feeling of a studio drafting table. To do this, we covered the table top with vellum architectural drawings, brought in drafting tools, and had guests leave notes to the couple in sketch books. To add depth and texture, Mao of Four Inch Fold created bunting from pages of an architecture book and Courtney of Courtney Khail Stationery and Design hand-painted a gold and white backdrop.

Montaluce Winery and Estates Wedding by Melissa Schollaert Photography

We always get a little excited when we see a Montaluce Winery and Estates wedding.  The gorgeous, lush backdrop is one of the most stunning settings in Georgia.  This classically beautiful wedding by Melissa Schollaert Photography might be one of our favorites.  It is picture perfect and sweet as can be!  See it all in the full gallery!

From Melissa of Melissa Schollaert PhotographyAnn-Marie and Jason’s wedding was a classic and beautiful wedding at Montaluce Winery and Estates in north Georgia. The couple was married under a big tree out in the winery, and their reception was held in the main winery building on the property. Their palette consisted of greens and grays with a pop of deep purple, which carried through their florals, bridesmaids’ dresses and wedding decor. The guests enjoyed cool beverages served up on old wine barrels while waiting for the ceremony to start. They also enjoyed a cocktail hour in the winery with wines straight from the vineyard, as well as a fun photo booth to kick off the party for the evening. Montaluce has its own restaurant within the winery, which provided a beautiful, seated, candlelit dinner for all the guests. After some amazing toasts from their friends and family, Ann-Marie and Jason danced outside on the terrace under string lights. As an extra surprise, guests were treated to a scotch and cigar bar upstairs on the top terrace. It was a really fun party, and an amazing time was had by all.

From Morgan of Morgan Gallo Events… Johanna and Courtney were married October 22, 2011, in Forsyth Square on one of Savannah’s nicest fall days. They loved the idea of bringing the essences of fall without being to cliche, and we were able to incorporate them through her flowers, colors and details. Johanna was a very hands-on bride and loved DIY projects. She made the fabulous fabric ceremony programs, menu cards, table numbers, collected fabric and different-colored bottles so we could use them throughout the reception. She also made the most impressive bridal brooch bouquet ever! The brooches were those that she collected from loved ones, family and friends! Her adorable blue bird cake toppers from Etsy were the perfect finish to her wedding cake, and we tied it into the look of the wedding by adding a few sunflowers sporadically placed on a few tiers. They gave mini jars of Savannah Bee honey to each of the guests as favors and used the remainder of their fabric to cover the lids! After enjoying local fare, hours of dancing, sharing laughs and memories of the happy couple, guests lined up with sparklers to send them and their bridal party on their way for a night out on the town!

From the Bride… Walking down the aisle is one of the most breathtaking moments of your life. I remember sitting in the carriage, leaning over saying “I see him! I see Courtney! Can we go now? ” and then walking down the aisle. I can feel everyone looking at me and remember thinking “Okay, just don’t get your heel stuck in the cobblestone. For once in your life, try to be graceful.” We had rehearsed walking slowly, but then I saw him smiling back at me, and all of these people who love us smiling back at me, and I think I started walking pretty fast! He seems to agree — I just yelled to him, “Babe, what was your favorite moment of our wedding day?” He said, “I really liked watching you walk down the aisle.”

My brooch bouquet was definitely a special detail. It meant so much to me to not only carry a bouquet that was so one of a kind, but also one that had gifts and heirlooms from all the women in my life. The venue itself was also really special to us. Courtney was extremely close to his grandfather, who passed away right around the time we started dating. We had been having so much trouble finding a venue that we both loved, and then we stopped by the Railroad Museum and saw this old Norfolk and Western railcar, which was the line his granddad worked on. It seemed like it was just meant to be.
