From the Bride-to-Be… The way we met is actually pretty funny — we were working for competing companies! We both started in the pharmaceutical industry around the same time, and not only sold competing products but also shared all the same offices! And so the playfully competitive banter began. :) As we occasionally ran into each other, we would joke about who would to win our “friendly” competition and talk for as long as we could. I was always so excited to see him … and he gave me such a giddy, butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling that to his day has never gone away. We were friends for a long time before the fateful day when he asked me out to lunch, and as they say, the rest was history. We started dating soon after (and luckily no longer sold competing products), and I knew I had found the person God meant for me to spend my life with. On September 22, 2012, I am marrying my best friend and love of my life!

From Something Pretty PhotographyThis was a wonderfully simple wedding that was a perfect afternoon affair! It took place at the Botanical Gardens here in Atlanta, Georgia, and it could not have been a more perfect day. Their colors were yellow and gray, and the flowers were STUNNING — made by the amazing Le Bonne Fleur. The reception was inside a beautiful house on the grounds, and everything was just simple and elegant, from the dress to to table setting. I wish all of my weddings could be an afternoon wedding like this — there is something so wonderful and old school about it.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s Inspired Engagement Session by Kate Belle

I can’t believe I’m actually admitting this to all of you but here goes: I’ve never seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s! I know, I know, I’m a terrible person but I have this thing with the TV that as soon as it comes on, I totally fall asleep. But I’m wide eyed and bushy tailed over this e-session that was inspired by that classic film. Kate Belle did such an amazing job capturing this adorable couple and their sense of style that I think I have to go Netflix the movie now. See the rest right here!

From Kate BelleThis engagement shoot took place on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. When I first met Aubrey and Jonathan, I was struck by their classic style, so when we decided on the Biltmore Hotel as the venue for their engagement session (also where their wedding will be in October), my mind naturally gravitated to another Aubrey — Aubrey Hepburn — and from there, to Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The light, the rain, their clothes (right down to the trench coat), the iconic Biltmore Hotel, and of course, Aubrey and Jonathan’s chemistry and style really all came together on the day to make this shoot something magic.

From the Bride… Not only are “Back to the Future” and “Sex and the City” our favorite movies, they are also an awesome description of Wayne and I. Classic, laid-back and conservative meets eclectic, modern, perfectionist! I knew that our wedding had to reflect our styles. After my idea of a dream wedding (eloping in Las Vegas) was vetoed, I knew I needed to find a venue that would match our art gallery theme and that would give our out-of-town guests a true feeling that they were in Atlanta. When I stepped into the modern, loft located two blocks from the Georgia Dome, I knew I had found our venue.

Melanie Hernquist with Lucky and Lovely transformed the loft into a sophisticated and vibrant gallery, including floral design, signage and personal photos of Wayne and me. After shooting my bridal shower pole dancing class, I was confidant Erin Brauer of Something Pretty Photography had the talent and creativity to capture our wedding perfectly. Shaundra Anderson with B. Moore Events did an outstanding job keeping my many vendors organized and keeping my inner bridezilla contained.

The day was exquisite — we started our first look photographs at the W Midtown. I still have butterflies reminiscing about the moment Wayne turned to see me for the first time in my wedding dress. Before the ceremony, we were able to sneak away for more pictures at one of our favorite places in Atlanta: Piedmont Park. I remain overwhelmed with love remembering all of our closet friends and family in one room to celebrate our romantic and intimate wedding ceremony. Following the ceremony, guests dined on butler-passed tapas, several stations prepared by Chef Mark at the Loft at Castleberry Hill and a decadent dessert bar courtesy of Highland Bakery. One of my favorite memories of the night was looking into Wayne’s eyes during our first dance to Chrisette Michele’s “Love is You” as he gently kissed my forehead. It’s amazing how I can still feel the warmth and love that surrounded us as I look at our wedding pictures — simply precious.

From the Groom… I knew that I loved Laurine the night she approached me through a crowd to introduce herself. Although we didn’t start dating officially for 4 months, I knew I wanted to be with her, and very soon after we started dating, I knew I was going to marry her. I have a bit of a traditional streak within me, so I wanted to ask Laurine’s father for his blessing before I “officially” asked her to marry me. The challenge with that was he literally lives on the other side of the planet in Taipei, Taiwan! So I began the process of planning a trip to Taiwan to meet the man who would become my BaBa. I found the ring design and began THAT process, which is it’s own special challenge. Laurine is quite picky, so prayer was the key. I trusted Spirit to lead me to the perfect ring for her, and it did! I then made the trip to Taiwan, and met my new family-to-be. My BaBa to be (seemed) to avoid me for almost the whole time I was there, and finally two nights before I left, he made time to have a conversation with me. I am not sure if it was so much of a conversation as an inquisition, which lasted for an hour and a half and was quite intense. But in the end I was given his blessing. My Love for Laurine is unwavering, so I knew nothing was going to stand in the way. No obstacles, just opportunities!

I had been carrying the ring around in my pocket for a week, and I wanted the right opportunity to ask her to marry me! I felt pressured with time, and now it was my last day in Taiwan. Before we went out to spend some time in Taipei, I asked Spirit to show me the right and perfect place to ask her to be my wife. We were at the Chang Hei Shek memorial hall having a conversation sitting on the grass under a tree. She was worried that the time I had spent with BaBa was too much for me and that maybe I was having second thoughts. I told of course I wasn’t and she asked if I loved her. I said yes, and asked her if she really needed to know that I loved her. She said yes, and then I asked her again, and she replied louder with another yes this time. I asked her once more, and she practically screamed at me YES! I then dropped to my knee, pulled out the ring and asked her to marry me. She said “Oh my God, are you asking me right now?!” I replied yes, and then she said “Yes, I will marry you! ” Then came the real challenge. Planning a multi-continental wedding in two months. We had family coming from China, Taiwan and Los Angeles! The first few weeks were a lot of fun actually, and then it became stressful. We had Ashley Baber from Ashley Baber weddings as the lead, but we still did a lot. Ashley did an amazing job and was so wonderful on the wedding day that I just can’t say how thankful I am for her. I did a lot of the planning and negotiating personally, which was fun. I think that if the IT thing doesn’t work out I can be a wedding planner (not really).

From the Bride… How do I even begin to describe Scott and our relationship?! We have great connections, wonderful and authentic communications. He is one I know I will learn and grow with; one has the determination and capability to overcome hardships and create an extraordinary life with me; one who makes my heart swell with love, happiness, innocence, butterflies and laughter; one who Sees me, challenges me to evolve and inspires me to love! I feel grounded, supported, special and very loved when I’m with him. The way Scott treats me and our relationship has made me believing in true love again! My heart is filled with gratitude for the universe to have brought Scott into my life. I am very happy, excited, and grateful to have found such a wonderful partner to be walking the path and spending the rest of my life with! : )

From Carla Gates Photography Tracey and Brian’s wedding day was simply divine! Not only are these two incredibly sweet together, but they also both have such wonderful families that are so full of love. It is truly a blessing to be around! Having chosen the Georgian Terrace as their venue, as well as a team of fantastically creative and talented individuals to add to the alreadythorough planning done by Tracey and her mom, I knew it would be a dream to shoot! As you will see, the floral designs done by Amy Osaba were to die for and the cake was positively gorgeous! They had Amanda Keller as their wonderful day-of planner (I can’t recommend this enough!) and a fantastic team from The Georgian Terrace that did an amazing job not only putting it all together, but helping us throughout the day! As a cherry on top, A-town A-list provided incredible music and entertainment for what was one of the best parties I have ever seen! It was such a pleasure to take part in such a special day for these two!

From the Bride… After our engagement, Brian and I initially started planning a small destination wedding. Right before we were going to put down a deposit at a venue, a friend of mine told me that she would never forget the feeling she had when the church doors opened at her wedding and she was surrounded by all the people she loved. That description stuck with me, and ultimately Brian and I decided we wanted to share our wedding day with all of our closest friends and family. In keeping with the initial vision, my mom and I set off to plan an “in-town” destination wedding weekend in our hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. We chose to have all of the wedding events – luncheons, welcome party, ceremony, and reception — on one block of Peachtree Street in midtown Atlanta. We wanted our guests to be able to enjoy all of the great food, attractions and night-life that Atlanta has to offer … without having to fight Atlanta traffic! We also incorporated the Atlanta city skyline into the design of our wedding stationery, including the table numbers that were replicas of notable Atlanta buildings and landmarks.

The wedding reception was held at The Georgian Terrace Hotel, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Brian and I loved the mix of classic architecture and modern interior design. I did not want to feel tied to a strict color scheme, so we chose bridesmaids’ dresses in a light petal pink that allowed us to use a cheerful palette of bright sherbet colors combined with mixed metallics for our flowers, linens, and paper details. Before the wedding, we said that all the hard work we put into planning would be worth it if our guests stayed on the dance floor until the band played their last song … and they did!  The neon sunglasses we gave out were a huge hit with our guests and really helped to get the party started. Throughout the year of planning, I worked closely with my mom, our floral team and the event coordinators at The Georgian Terrace. It was truly a group effort! Our photographer was one of my favorites who also happens to be a high school friend of mine, and we could not be happier with how she captured all of the special moments we remember from that day.  The entire weekend was magical, and the reception was a blast for us and our guests. We loved every minute of it!

From Rebecca of The Studio B PhotographyThere’s something special about a well-decorated, elegant ballroom wedding. It is so classically beautiful you can’t help but love it! Such is the case with Kate and Erik’s wedding, which took place at the historic and gorgeous Georgian Terrace in Atlanta. Meticulously styled by Jade Lee of Lovelee Affairs, the focal point of the wedding was the stunning estate table that sat the bride, groom and their bridal party. The decor was highlighted by the historic architectural detail of the Georgian Terrace, sky-high centerpieces and a beautiful cake made to mimic the soft, ruffled fabric of bride’s dress. Kate and Erik made time after their ceremony to swing by their midtown condo and take a few photos with their beloved Golden Retriever, Jackson. Jackson donned a black bow tie for the occasion and grinned happily as he posed for photos with his mom and dad. The wedding guests danced all night to the tunes of The Flavor Band and donned hats from The Varsity as a late night snack was delivered.

Atlanta Wedding at Winn Park by (once like a spark) photography

I’m just going to start off this pretty little post by telling you that this stunning bride and groom are seriously BEYOND AWESOME. (Yep, beyond awesome in an all caps kind of way.)  Not only are they self-described “silly” people, but their wedding was filled.to.the.brim with so much loveliness, it’s almost hard to believe it’s true.  I’m talking pumpkins, DIY details and a reading from “The Wonder Years.” Amazing, no?!?  Thankfully, (once like a spark) photography captured all of the downright cuteness and there’s an entire gallery just waiting to be loved, loved, loved.  Join me there for more.

And a sweet film from Rodinis Films to wrap up the day…

From the Bride… Ted and I are silly. We do silly dances and wear lazy pants. We eat too many cookies, we like old timey stuff, and we have a merry group of weirdo friends. We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of all of these things, including our really good hairdos.

On October 8th 2011, it all came together. We believe with all our hearts that the perfect fall weather was a gift from our dads, who both sadly passed away many moons before we even met. But thanks to them, the sun was perfect as my nine-year-old nephew walked me down an aisle lined with pumpkins, mums and hay bales, all of which Ted and his best men set up two hours before putting on their fancy suits. Our tiny friend with a mega voice sang “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by the Beach Boys as my dress swished back and forth like a bell. I joined Ted under a trellis where our dear friend Bronkar (who is married to the tiny friend with a mega voice) married us in his first ceremony since becoming the world’s only ordained beat-boxing minister. My friend Karen read an excerpt from “The Wonder Years” while Ted’s friend Joe read a rousing rendition of “Thunder Road” by the one and only Bruce Springsteen. And just before our vows, we made our congregation stand and do a silly dance with us to lighten the mood just in case things got serious. And then it happened — we were pronounced husband and wife. And then we kissed and hugged and cried and got the dickens knocked out of us with birdseed.

We rented out a super neat restaurant called Parish for the reception. And we decorated the place ourselves. The tables were filled with sunflowers, daisies, mums, pumpkins and tiny green army men. We served a Southern menu that included fried chicken and a mac and cheese bar. We had a couples dance for all of our recently wed friends. The same nephew who walked me down the aisle gave an amazing speech that included the real reason he loves me: I am his personal homework help line. Ted sang with all his might. Bronkar and his wife serenaded us with song. We gave away favors of Little Debbies and balsa wood airplanes. And then at 2 a.m., the party was over, and our faces hurt from smiling so hard. Nothing quite captures the day like our lovely film from the wonderfully bearded Ryan Rodinis.

Atlanta Wedding at the King Plow Event Gallery by Melissa Schollaert Photography

If I were to go on a tangent listing all the reasons why this wedding captured by Melissa Schollaert Photography is just be-YOND, this intro would take up the entire SMP front page. No lie. It’s why I can’t even start, because the minute I listed my favorite detail crafted by this oh so talented interior designer Bride, I would then be forced to list another. From Melissa of Melissa Schollaert PhotographyLisa is an interior designer, and her modern and elegant style really showed through in her wedding design. A fresh green, gray and white palette was just enough modern elegance to contrast nicely with the old, historic King Plow Arts Center. Her modern signage by Hi Note and all-white, textured cake by Frosted Pumpkin really stood out against the rough, brick walls of the building. Their food really reflected both the bride’s and groom’s roots — Southern specialties such as biscuits, macaroni & cheese and fried green tomatoes showcased the bride’s roots, while Latin specialties such as asada flank steak and Spanish rice highlighted the groom’s heritage. The couple really got creative when it came to the reception — the head table was decorated with thousands of white hydrangeas that spilled of of the table and on to the floor. The bride’s Dad engineered an entire cable system that was attached to the ceiling structure above the dance floor and held hundreds of small terrariums filled with candles and fresh orchids. Everything was just so fresh and so fun, just like the couple!

From the Bride…Nelson and I met the summer of 2008 at a party I threw at my house and we were introduced by a friend of Nelson’s – we hit it off instantly. We had summer of dinner dates, fun nights out dancing and a lot of good laughs. I fell for Nelson immediately for his sense of humor and outgoing personality. We really became best friends – I think the mutual love, trust, and respect for each other is what got us through rough times and made the good times so special. We bought a fixer upper house together in 2011 and we put our blood sweat and in tears into transforming the old house into our home. Two months after our purchase Nelson proposed to me in our new kitchen, a memory we will cherish forever.

The planning of the wedding came quite naturally and developed in an organic way. Being that Nelson and I were both born and raised in Atlanta, we wanted our city to play a major role in the theme. We chose King Plow Arts Center for several reasons, one because of the history of the building , and two because it had such a unique look and feel to the space. I instantly had a vision of bringing together a simple modern look and a classic vintage feel. Most importantly we wanted the design of the wedding to be “us”.  Nelson and I decided on nearly every detail together and it was a very fun experience for us – our goal was simple we wanted our guests to have the time of their life and to create a memory for them through the event.  Through the amazing vendors we pulled together and the help and support of family and friends it came together just as we had imagined.

I have to take a moment to discuss where everything came from and who worked the magic behind the key design details of our wedding. While I drew on my interior design background to come up with all the schematics and design the event, it would have been nothing without my family – especially my amazingly talented mom. She is a fabulous florist in Madison, GA and has been hugely successful in her venture there and the weddings she has done etc – but of course this wedding was different. Because it was her youngest daughter’s wedding and because it was a slight departure design wise from the weddings she is usually commissioned to do. We had many meetings with her and my aunt, who played the role of wedding planner, and it didn’t take long for my mom to get behind the modern simple look I was going for.  She took my ideas and ran with them and the finished product was above and beyond my wildest hopes or expectations. If I have to choose my favorite floral feature, which is really difficult, I believe I would have to go with my stunning orchid bouquet that my mom surprised me with. I gave her several ideas and options and told her to surprise me the day of with the one she felt like was most “me” and she knocked it out of the park. The bouquet was like nothing I had ever seen before and it was truly breath taking.  Aside from just my mom my whole family came together to make the event over the top – my sister individually embroidered 180 napkins, my dad engineered  and implemented the hanging glass globes, my aunt and her husband did the specialty gobo lighting, my other aunt as I mentioned was our fantastic wedding planner. This made us feel so loved and brought such a personal touch to our day, not to mention saved our budget!

At the end of the day the event went off without a hitch – literally. Everything went as planned and everything was wonderful. The space looked gorgeous. The food and drinks were beyond delicious and the Bold American staff was a joy to work with. Our cake was outstanding. All the paper design tied the whole feel of the event together. We danced the night away to our favorite songs. Our families and friends joined together and bonded and had a complete blast. It was truly the best night of our lives!

One piece of advice that I was given and I remembered on my wedding day that I would like to pass on to bride’s to be – Be present on your big day. It’s easy to get caught up in the madness of the day and get carried away and let the time slip by. But remember whatever is going to happen will happen – so sit back relax and take it all in. Oh and get an amazing photographer like we did who will capture your big day exactly the way it felt so you can relive the moments you might not remember!

Love Floats Engagement Session by Gracie Blue Photography

I am constantly in awe and amazed by the creative ways our couples express and celebrate their love.  This “Love Floats” session captured by Gracie Blue Photography is one of the most adorable I’ve seen.  A fun, modern balloon shoot kicks everything off in Atlanta followed by a romantic hot air balloon ride for two!  So sweet!  See the entire perfect day in the full gallery!

Click here for the FULL engagement session!

From Gracie of Gracie Blue PhotographyMatt wanted to propose to Christina on a hot air balloon. But due to inclement weather he was unable to do so. They decided to incorporate the idea into their engagement session. The theme of this session was “love floats.” The two are perfect for one another. Shooting this two part engagement session was a dream. Whenever I needed a sweet smile from Christina, all I had to do was mention Matt and how she felt the day he proposed. She immediately lit up. Matt was really sweet on her as well. He’s got that old fashioned charm — a real gentleman who looks after his lady in every situation. It was very refreshing.

The first part of the session was shot in Atlanta, Georgia at the High Museum of Art. We had balloons on hand and a bottle with their wedding date, which I painted by hand. We then hurried over to a nearby bridge that had the Atlanta skyline in the background and magic happened. I popped out my instant camera for a few souvenir goofy shots. The second half of the session took place in North Georgia in a field. The miniature bottle was also crafted by me. It has the word “cheers” on it as a nod to Matt and Christina. They say “cheers” before each and every meal. It’s their “thing,” and it’s quite adorable. The “LOVE” balloon sign was also made by me. I have a background in graphic design.

They were both quite nervous before the big flight on the balloon. They walked around and inspected the balloon and looked up as the balloon and a neighboring balloon filled up. We took a few shots of some love notes they’ve collected during their relationship. They were both very excited. The thing that stood out the most that afternoon was the way Matt held her before the balloon took off. And that’s when it all came full circle — Love floats!

From the Bride… I firmly believe that Atlanta is biggest small town out there. Daniel went to UNC and I went UGA for undergrad, and when we met in Atlanta five years after graduation we had no idea that our circle of friends overlapped in so many ways. Given that our friends and family are not scared of having a good time, we knew our wedding would not be a disappointment no matter what planning decisions we made.

I had always figured I would have a Charleston wedding after spending all my summers growing up at my grandparents house on King Street, but after one millisecond of planning I realized there was no way I could juggle work and planning a destination wedding. Therefore my requirements were that my venue had to be a part of Atlanta’s history and full of southern sophistication. The solution: The Georgian Terrace Hotel. The art deco tile in the cocktail foyer literally screamed my name when I first visited. Early on I knew my absolute favorite part of the planning was going to be the invitations. I have a major stationery addiction and Callie at Calliespodence (who is also a friend from college) designed the most gorgeous wedding invitations that included a custom liner made to perfectly match our reception table runners.

When we chose a January date, I was elated that I finally had the right occasion deserving of my grandmother’s vintage fox stole. Little did I know that I would wake up on our wedding day to 75 degree temperatures and tornado warnings. Surprisingly, I was extremely calm about it all! Luckily the rain stopped and clouds parted right before pictures. My style is simple, classic, and southern, and our priority was that our wedding was not a complicated affair. Our ceremony was the kind where everyone (including me and Daniel) laughed and cried — it could not have been more “us” or more perfect. I was a bride on a budget and joked that my wedding planner was anyone who was willing to help! Fortunately one of my close mentors also happens to be a very talented Atlanta hostess and designer who, along with giving me wonderful advice, loaned me her classic black and cream toile tablecloths, which set the stage for everything else. My sweet mother-in-law sewed additional custom runners for the tables, and Denise at TruSo Weddings did a beautiful job understanding my unique request for paperwhites and boxwood centerpieces. Our cake was delicious and although I’m biased, I think it the best I have ever had. My goal was for people to dance, and they did — all night, literally — right down to my 84-year-old grandmother refusing to leave the dance floor. My favorite detail was our end of night favor: hot and fresh Chick-fil-A chicken biscuits. Nothing is better than a hot chicken biscuit after a night of champagne and dancing! The best part of the wedding is that both Daniel and I had the BEST time and enjoyed every second. All in all, I can honestly say there is absolutely nothing I would have changed or done differently. It was the perfect day!

Atlanta Wedding at King Plow Arts Center by Alea Moore Photography

I am a huge flower lover but I don’t think there is anything more spectacular than a reception glowing with crazy amounts of candlelight.  The urban backdrop of this Atlanta wedding captured by Alea Moore Photography is ablaze in beautiful light from the floor to the ceiling creating the most romantic space.  Personal touches and darling, travel-inspired details pack a punch of personality throughout the incandescent celebration.  See it all in the full gallery!

From Alea of Alea Moore PhotographyRosemary and Marc are both international, so their wedding was focused on bringing the places where they were from and have traveled to. Along with most of their guests who were from abroad. I felt indulged in culture throughout their day.

From the Bride… So many favorite parts of the day. But the best was probably seeing my two non-English speaking sets of parents getting jiggy with it on the dance floor! I have never seen my dad do more than the sixth-grade sway — ever! And just seeing all my friends and family enjoying themselves with the music and the food.

Trees Atlanta Photo Shoot by Estoria Social + Robin Nathan Photography

I can get on this bandwagon and I bet my bottom dollar most of you will be on board too. It’s all about the lovely blend of nuptials and giving back to the environment; an Earth Day Wedding inspired shoot to be more exact. Estoria Social infused thoughtful details from itty bitty potted succulent favors to a locally grown menu and possibly the best detail of all, Trees Atlanta Kendeda Center, a local non-profit that served as a mighty fine backdrop for a wedding celebration. This is green, green love at its finest all captured by Robin Nathan Photography. See more of the shoot right here!

From Jaimie of Estoria SocialA local non-profit with a mission to “protect and improve Atlanta’s urban forest,” Trees Atlanta plants trees in needed areas all over the the city and works to promote community involvement and provide education and conservation of existing landscapes. Its headquarters are located at the Kendeda Center in Atlanta’s historic Cabbagetown neighborhood. We imagined our bride and groom as volunteers who met while planting trees, bonding over their shared interest in conservation and greening their environment. The pair fell in love and set out to marry on Earth Day to honor their commitment to each other and to the environment. A large part of the inspiration for this shoot came from an art installation created by local Atlanta artist Brandon Ross situated at the center of the venue. The mirrored tree sculpture extends its branches over the center of the room, which, when combined with the center’s planted trees and organic greenscape, creates a perfect setting for a modern, yet natural reception theme. We focused on sourcing all of our materials, vendors, and food from local businesses and added DIY touches with a decidedly modern twist. The result was our “urban forest” theme, what we thought of as a new twist on a woodland wedding, combining symbols of the natural environment with contrasting, pizazz-worthy, modern accents.

Invitations and other paper goods were created by local stationer Becky Scheel in a “tree of love” theme.  Becky created a save-the-date and invitation featuring the couple’s “Earth Day” wedding date, and an RSVP card, map, details card, program, menu, and favor tag in the same theme, along with a beautiful, hand-stamped, botanical mailing envelope. Our couple set their ceremony in front of a tree in the venue’s beautiful back courtyard, as a symbol of their growing love and a reflection of the story of their meeting. Our bride wore the Lela Rose “Secret Garden” dress, which was generously provided by local bridal boutique Kelly’s Closet. After the ceremony, guests signed a wooden plank guest book and were greeted with signature cocktails in “happy” glasses. They snacked on hor d’oeurves from beloved local eatery and caterer Sun in My Belly Catering & Neighborhood Cafe and treats from Little Tart Bakeshop, all featuring local, sustainable (and yummy) ingredients. Each guest received a locally-grown, potted succulent as a favor to plant in their home garden as a reminder of our couple’s special day.

We designed a five-sided polygonal head table around the mirrored tree sculpture, matching the metallics of the sculpture with silver dinner plates and cutlery. Sprays of pale peach garden roses, colorful succulents, bright hellebore, eucalyptus, rice flowers and lots of foraged greenery crowned each two-top portion of the head table along with tea light candles in squat, decorative mason jars. Guest tables were also set with silver dinner plates and centerpieces made from recycled bottles and cans (soda bottles, wine bottles, soup cans and other previously-used glass containers), spray painted metallic chrome to match the silver of the tree sculpture. The guest table greenery reflected the estate tables with touches of peach garden roses, deep green leaves and succulents, accented by handmade hypertufa earthenware spherical and heart-shaped sculptures and tealights perched on little round tree cuts. Smaller succulents in handmade hypertufa pots sat atop each dinner plate as place cards. Later, the couple served ice cream from the Westside Creamery truck, a local purveyor of sinfully sweet, locally-sourced chilled goods, as a satisfying late night snack. The couple also used the ice cream truck later to escape in style at the end of the evening.

From the Bride… Judson and I are both pretty private people, and we knew wanted a very small, intimate group. So we decided to have our wedding at a remote venue, preferably in a garden setting. After searching for several months, we visited Barnsley Gardens Resort, and we both instantly knew that this was the place! Stacy Price, our coordinator at Barnsley, was tremendously helpful in insuring we got the wedding of our dreams. We wanted the entire wedding to very small, but very beautiful, unique and elegant. I wanted to be surrounded by flowers – very elegant and visually spectacular. Maxine and Garbrielle Mecca of Edge Design took my mental image of what I wanted and created an amazingly beautiful Barnsley Gardens Resort ceremony site, a cocktail reception site in the Historic Ruins, as well as the lavish and lush décor for the Dinner and Dancing Reception. Also, I did not want one large cake. I wanted something different, so we decided on 3 small but exquisite cakes, arranged on antique pedestals. Sharon Alexander of Sweet Sensations, Inc. was AMAZING!  The cakes were more than I dreamed of!

We decided to “swap” the sides for the seating at the ceremony. The Groom’s family was seated on the left; my family was seated on the right. This insured that each family could see the FACE of their child, rather than their back, as is the typical setup. It was a wonderful idea! It was especially meaningful to occasionally catch a glimpse of my family during the ceremony and see the joy on their faces! I wanted my own very special wedding gown, but I also wanted to honor my Mom by using hers in some way. Edge Design Group helped out by creating the most gorgeous table cloth, using lace from my Mom’s gown. This table cover was used at the cake table and was a very special tribute to my Mom. We also used one of the lace cuffs from her gown to wrap the stems of my bridal bouquet. So although I was not wearing my Mom’s gown, a part of it was with me throughout the entire ceremony. We wanted to have family photographs taken before the wedding, so that our guests would not have to wait so long at the cocktail reception. But we didn’t want to lose that unique, special moment when Judson and I first saw each other in our wedding finery. So Edge Design Group created the most unbelievable space for our “First Look.” They took the Bamboo Garden at Barnsley and turned it into a fairy tale garden spot just for the two of us … with an exquisite crystal chandelier and a beautifully-draped table for two with champagne, flowers and candles everywhere! A dream “First Look” beyond our imaginations!

One of the most touching moments was when we saw the “Family Photographs” table in the Ruins. My mom had brought my portrait that was painted when I turned two years old. She had borrowed Judson’s portrait that was painted when he turned four years old, and these portraits were hanging in the Barnsley Gardens Historic Ruins above the family photo table. My mom’s bridal headpiece and veil were beautifully draped over a corner of my portrait — this was an incredibly tender and touching moment!  And the most amazing thing of all is that Judson’s portrait and mine were painted by the same artist in exactly the same year (he was 4, I was 2, and he is 2 years older than me), using the same setting (seated on an ottoman) and framed in the exact same frames! It looked as if these portraits had been designed to be alike — but they were each done independently of the other, 22 years earlier!  Something tells us this was meant to be! FATE! Our first dance was to “Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat — they sum up our feelings exactly:  So lucky we’re in love with our best friend … so lucky we’re in love in every way!

From Eliana of ellyB EventsJessica and Sam were married on a lovely day in May. We worked hard to achieve a fun yet vibrant party with tons of ribbon detail along with the use of chalk boards throughout the event. The most amazing part of all of the planning was getting to know Jessica and Sam a bit more — they both are young lawyers ready to rock out the legal world here in Atlanta. Surrounded by their family and friends, we partied until the wee hours of the morning!

Endive Atlanta Photo Shoot by Courtney Khail Stationery and Design

When this fun, modern inspiration shoot came my way I was first struck by the super cool couple.  They are so chic and stylish and just a little bit edgy in the most perfect way.  Plus they are totally and obviously in love which makes these photos by Renee Brock Photography that much more awesome.  The watercolor and air plant inspiration that Courtney Khail Stationery and Design put together completely captures the same, fresh vibe with artsy, organic details.  There are so many creative and unique ideas to take away from this shoot from the ombre table runner to the drafting studio-inspired guest book table.  See it all in the full gallery!

From Courtney of courtney khail stationery and designOur models are actually designers who are married in real life. Six years ago they eloped in Las Vegas and never had the opportunity to take wedding photos together. While all of us vendors had a great time creating the shoot, we agreed that our favorite part of the whole day was seeing the love these two shared and being able to provide them both with a “wedding” and real wedding photos. There’s something incredibly special about creating something that celebrates true love.

The concept of this inspiration shoot evolved from a stationery design I created that consisted of various air plants. As a watercolor artist, I was immediately drawn to the subtle, unique color palettes air plants possess. I also loved their ability to be both structural and organic at the same time and wanted to create an event that would capture their unique qualities. Together with planner Jaimie Cohen of Estoria Social, we worked to make that vision come to life. We wanted to keep the shoot fresh and modern, taking inspiration from watercolors and air plants, while also introducing an underlying architectural theme to connect the plants with their surroundings. Before we knew it, we’d created a story about a couple who fell in love while studying architecture and wanted their wedding to incorporate their love for that, as well as their unique modern flair. In the end, we wanted to create a one-of-a-kind shoot that would inspire couples to try something different and encourage them to fully express themselves.

The watercolor invitation suite captured the various colors of the air plant, which are carried throughout the entire shoot. The graphic black ink brings in a modern touch and the handwritten wording adds an intimate touch. The bouquet was created by Amy Osaba and features large colorful air plants among brightly colored blooms. The different blooms bring in texture and mimic the bodice of the bride’s dress. The centerpiece consisted of a handmade balsa wood container painted to resemble an architectural metal beam and filled with a lush arrangement of various colored air plants and succulents. Modern meets organic by combining hand painted gold stemware with antique cream and gold place settings. Watercolor touches are brought in through the menus and table numbers, as well as a hand-dyed gray ombre runner. A watercolor escort card display further combines the industrial and organic themes. As a favor, each guest received an air plant at their seat. A simple white cake is decorated with air plants and displayed atop design books and an antique metal card catalog. Architectural drawings are tied off with gold ribbon and placed in a gold mesh container to reference the couple’s background. With the guest book table, we wanted to evoke the feeling of a studio drafting table. To do this, we covered the table top with vellum architectural drawings, brought in drafting tools, and had guests leave notes to the couple in sketch books. To add depth and texture, Mao of Four Inch Fold created bunting from pages of an architecture book and Courtney of Courtney Khail Stationery and Design hand-painted a gold and white backdrop.

Flint Hill Mansion Wedding from Artstar by Laura Stone

Friday, we shared their engagement session, and today we open up the week (which I’m excited to say is filled with stunning soirees around every corner) with this stylish couple’s wedding. They are the kind of couple that can have a beautiful, completely chic, stunning wedding with very little effort – because they are just that cool. Cool enough for Artstar by Laura Stone to capture their unbelievable day, and cool enough to pack our gallery full of envy-inducing details!

Chris and I met in 2004 through a mutual friend in New York. Chris will tell you he fell in love with me the moment he saw me even though I was with someone else at the time. I didn’t remember our first meeting and it wasn’t until we were reintroduced in April 2005 that I feel like our story began. I thought Chris and I would be friends, but Chris had other plans. He was persistent and it was his humor and his easy way that I eventually fell for. Chris is my first love and we both knew early on that we would ultimately be married one day.

We became long distance in 2008 after I moved to Atlanta to be closer to my family. It was a challenge and there were some really tough times, but because we had such a strong foundation we ended up on the other side unscathed and stronger.

I’m surprised that men get so nervous before they propose even though they are confident their partner will say yes! Chris is normally a talker and a joker but I vividly remember him being very quiet the night he proposed . He was hot and we stopped to sit a few times on our way to a friend’s bar. It wasn’t until we were around the corner from our friend’s that he got down on one knee. Chris proposed to me on the streets of downtown New York. It was perfectly unplanned and caught me totally by surprise. A perfect beginning to a perfectly planned/unplanned wedding.

Chris and I are both easy going so we knew that wedding planning had to be the same. No stressing on either side was a must so we talked about what was most important to us first. Our only true requirements were we wanted a charming and quaint venue and that our friends and family had a good time.  We knew if those two things were met, everything else would fall into place. I looked at a couple of venues before I saw Flint Hill but knew from the moment I stepped in to the house that this was the venue for us.

Flint Hill turned out to be a god send. Because Chris and I lived in different cities and had very busy schedules, there was no way we could have done everything to plan a wedding. The people at Flint Hill took care of so much I almost thought something was wrong in the last few weeks because I was so carefree.

I wanted the bridesmaids to truly be able to wear their dresses again so we decided the bridal party would wear black and we let them choose the dress they wanted to wear. The flowers were left to the florist. I trusted Rory Moon to put together the bridal party flowers and I must admit it was one of two times I cried that day because they were so beautiful (the other was during the maid of honor’s toast). And I feel as if I left some other major decisions to the vendors because I felt they knew what I was going for and i trusted them because they were all professionals.

The day of was truly amazing. Our nearest and dearest flew from so many different places just to be with us and everything exceeded our expectations. Our main concern was to make sure everyone had a good time. We knew if that happened we would have a great time as well, and we had a blast.

From Jessica of Fine & FleurieI have wanted to put together a modern rooftop shoot for some time, and the terrace at The Peachtree Club offered an unparalleled Atlanta skyline view that was exactly what I had in mind. After putting together a inspiration board loaded with gold, champagne and pink tones and a decidedly feminine feel, I called on some of Atlanta’s sweetest wedding professionals to help pull it all together. My vision of a stylish but romantic bride came to life the moment I saw our model in this Monique Lhuillier gown and no-fuss braided up-do. I wanted to keep our table design fresh and light, with varying heights that called to mind the many buildings serving as our background. The floral arrangements included lots of Dutch freesia, roses, baby’s breath and the prettiest pale pink stock, making our table not only beautiful, but also cost-effective and super fragrant! A little pink champagne, gold-glittered menus and pink chevron napkins rounded out the modern look.

From Cheryl of Artworks Wedding CinemaIf there was ever a couple who incorporated all their personalities into their wedding day, it’s Anna and Joseph. I could immediately tell the two had fun and unique personalities when I laid my eyes on all the details! Their wedding took place at Park Tavern in Atlanta, which is an open and light venue that overlooks Piedmont Park as well as taking in a beautiful view of Atlanta’s skyline. We had a blast filming and editing their little film and really played up their fun personalities in their film. We wish Anna and Joseph the very best in their life together!

From the Bride… Since so many of our friends helped us with the cool and unique elements of our wedding, I would love it if we can highlight their contributions.  They really tried to tie all the elements and theme together even though they were all working independently. Our friend Anita of CakeKarma made our wedding cake, and our friend Sandy created the sweet bar and organized most of our vendors. Another friend, Becky at Pinto Bean Press, made our save-the-date cards, our custom wedding print with the penguins and our skate handboard favors. I work for a skateboard company out in LA, so of course, we had to have mini skateboards as our wedding favors. :) Our friend Chris Hamer of Urbnpop created the “Marry Me” Mega Munny vinyl toy for Joseph when he proposed. I guess his original plan was to take it with us on our business/holiday trip to London, but it was too big, so he ended up just bringing the sign with him so I wouldn’t suspect anything. The Munny is supposed to represent all the places we’ve been together in eight years and all the places we plan to go. We also used another Mega Munny for our guestbook.
