Atlanta Wedding from Buzzy Craftery + SMITTEN Weddings

After six-years of long distance dating, this cute-as-can-be couple tied the knot at Atlanta’s Summerour Studio. The bold, bright + blingy wedding was the brainchild of event designer, Buzzy Craftery, and the super-creative bride who worked together to create a totally Pin-worthy event! Lucky for us, the entire fête was brought to life through the lens of  SMITTEN Weddings. There is so, SO much more to see in the full gallery!

From Ashley Buzzy McHugh of Buzzy CrafteryThe bride and groom in this lovely affair are Ashleigh and Jeff. From the first moment we connected with Ashleigh, we knew she had been dreaming of this day for a long time. She was focused and clear about what she wanted the wedding feel like, but with a joyfulness and creativity that made it an exciting project to work on from beginning to end. More than anything, Ashleigh wanted the day to feel festive, colorful, bright and fun (without getting so casual that a little “sparkle and bling” would look out of place!). She wanted to incorporate some handmade and vintage pieces without going overboard on a theme. In the end, we agreed that using punchy colors, sparking glitter and lots of candles would be a winning combination.

The day of the wedding, our team couldn’t help pulling out our phones to Instagram a detail here and there — it was more beautiful than even we had imagined. The groom came with some friends to set up a masterfully-engineered lighting scheme and a giant framed screen they had made to display a slideshow during dinner! This bride and groom were so handy and creative that many times I thought about offering them jobs working on our future weddings! As soon as the ceremony started, there was a sweet happiness that filled the room. Ashleigh was a picture-perfect, glowing bride. We were so privileged to share in this day with Ashleigh and Jeff!

From the Bride… People are always surprised to hear that Jeff and I endured a six-year, long-distance relationship, but to me, it was easy. We both wanted to complete masters degrees and respected each others’ choice to pursue education and put our own relationship on hold. We racked up a lot of cell phone minutes and Skype dates and anxiously awaited the next face-to-face meeting for weeks or months at a time. There were rough times, but it never mattered when we finally were together again.

Jeff proposed on New Year’s Eve 2010. We both relocated to Atlanta (me from DC and Jeff from Illinois) and started planning our wedding immediately. The vision for the wedding changed probably 25 times. I spent a lot of time on Pinterest and wedding blogs and almost had too many ideas to choose from when thinking about our wedding. We knew we wanted the wedding to be comfortable and far from stuffy. We wanted pure merriment and a room filled with love and happiness, so we tried to choose all the details we thought would facilitate those feelings. Jeff was totally hands-on during the entire process and designed all the lighting, which included a big white chandelier and twinkling lights throughout the room. We also collected vintage dinner plates during the year and a half before the wedding to give to our guests as wedding favors. We went on several road trips just scouring thrift stores for beautiful plates! We also collected vintage teacups along the way, which Jeff turned into hand-poured candles for the decor. Some of our favorite aspects of the wedding were the beautiful flowers, candles, lighting and just the feeling in the room. It felt casual and celebratory, yet still important and emotional. All of our vendors were amazing and really gave us our dream wedding, and the best part was having all our friends and family in one place. It truly was a big love fest, which is exactly what he had hoped for the entire time.

From Scobey PhotographyAmy and Blake wanted their wedding to have Southern charm paired with a vintage flair and modern accents — a Southern garden party. They wanted to pay homage to the part of the country where Blake grew up and where they now live, but also incorporate the feel of the big city of New York where they met and fell in love. Every detail of their elegant affair was focused on making sure that their guests were comfortable and free to have a good time — to surround themselves with the closest of family and friends and to celebrate their love.

Atlanta Wedding at The Foundry at Puritan Mill from A Big To Do Event

Anything that’s themed “Southern Chic” and I’m already skipping like a school girl giddy with excitement. Then I saw this A Big To Do Event with its gorgeous Tulip flowers and a menu featuring my favorite mac ‘n’ cheese by Affairs to Remember and it’s official: I’m Sold! From A Big To Do EventThe theme of the wedding, held at an old soap factory built in 1921, was “Southern Chic” with a fun, non-traditional atmosphere. The wedding was inspired by the couple’s style and the role the South played in their relationship (the bride is from Alabama, and couple met/live in Georgia). They wanted every detail to say “them,” not “typical wedding.” The DJ and 130 guests made this Sunday night wedding seem like a Saturday night and could’ve kept the party going well into Monday with their energy. As the groom is a chef, food was important. The couple chose a southern menu with favorites like mac ‘n’ cheese, shrimp and grits, and fried green tomatoes. The groomsmen wore gray Chuck Taylors with their suits, and the couple surprised their guests with a fun, choreographed dance following their traditional first dance. The groom hand-made the peach jam favors each guest took home at the end of the night.

There are rehearsal dinners and then there is this stunning Atlanta soiree captured by the amazing Melissa Schollaert Photography, which takes everything you know about pre-wedding feasting and kicks it up a notch with a contemporary affair that is all kinds of crazy gorgeous.  I’m talking exposed brick walls, tablescapes overflowing with fresh green grass and ghost chairs spicing up every inch of space. All styled by the fab Mother of the Groom and set against a stunning King Plow Arts Center backdrop, believe me when I tell you – modern fêting never looked so good. Click here for more.

From Melissa Schollaert PhotographySarah and Matt’s beautiful rehearsal dinner was held at the King Plow Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Matt is an avid golfer, and his family put together an event that fused his love of golf with Sarah’s elegance to create a beautiful affair. Matt’s mom designed and planned the entire event, and she put an elegant spin on the game of golf by utilizing lots of fresh grass in the florals, as well as scorecards of Matt’s from his favorite golf courses used as the table numbers. Each table was different and had a variety of mixed arrangements that included grass, hydrangea, water and lots of candles. The entire room glowed, and it was a wonderful event for the husband and wife to be!

Acworth Beach Engagement Session from Cristina Elena Photography

This adorable couple decided to recreate the day they were engaged and the oh-so-talented Cristina Elena Photography followed along as they had a picnic on the beach, went for a little ride in an old wooden rowboat, (which by the way is how they actually got engaged), and just frolicked the afternoon away like the two love birds they are. See each and every sweet detail, including that pretty lace teepee, right here in the full gallery.

From Cristina Elena PhotographyI had the opportunity to photograph the engagement of one of my best friends last week. My boyfriend and I introduced them to each other over a year ago, and they’ve decided to get married! Kinda feeling like matchmakers over here… :) The day was perfect with just the right amount of sunlight to make the water glimmer. Nathan proposed to Kristina on a boat, much like the one in the photos. They are a couple that enjoys the outdoors, as well as the occasional glass of wine to accompany the scenery.  What I think is best captured in these photos is the sincere love and joy they have for each other.

Duluth Engagement Session from Enamored With + Edwin Kang Photography

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I love engagement sessions.  I mean, really – what’s better than spending the day with your soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. and capturing all of that pre-wedding bliss in perfect images to cherish for all eternity?  I LOVE it.  And this long-distance duo’s sweet sesh?  Well, it’s chock-full of smile-inducing moments, the fab stylings of Enamored With and devastatingly gorgeous images captured by Edwin Kang Photography.  In other words, it’s pure magic.  See so much more right here.

From Enamored WithEven with more than 700 miles standing between this beautiful couple, their love is undeniably true. What started out as a sweet high school friendship has turned into an incredible relationship between two like-minded and value-driven people. With the backdrop of the Southeastern Railway Museum, Edwin and I were able to highlight the essence of their long-distance relationship for the first half of the engagement session. From there, we hopped on over to a hidden gem, McDaniel Farm Park, where Edwin beautifully captured the couple’s love for each other. Even if you spend one minute with these two, you’ll experience true love when you hear the way Andrew cracks a silly joke and Mimi immediately breaks out into contagious laughter. I’m excited for their wedding next March, and I am even more excited to see how the rest of their story will unfold.

Atlanta Wedding from Ali Harper Photography

A wedding enriched in tradition, style and a whole lot of pretty is a sure fire way to make my oohs and ahhs go into over drive. Throw in some gorgeous florals by Bold American Events, delicious details curated by Estoria Social and stunning stop-in-your-tracks images by Ali Harper Photography, and you have the recipe for a certified swoon-fest. Even better? The gallery is overflowing with even swoon-worthy shots, and you can see it all right here!

From Jaimie Cohen of Estoria SocialGus’s family has a rich Greek heritage, and the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Annunciation in Atlanta provided a perfect backdrop for their traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony. Clusters of white hydrangeas and white roses, secured with white satin ribbons, lined the mahogany church pews. Natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows spilled onto the ceremony space and lit up the pastoral depictions on the stained glass windows. Guests were amazed by the beautiful hand-tiled mural on the domed ceiling ceiling as they listened to the couple exchange their touching vows. Katherine wore a dress she had worn for a debutante ball in high school and updated the gown with touches of antique lace on the bodice. She carried an unstructured bridal bouquet made up of creamy peach roses, luscious salmon peonies, apricot calla lilies and delicate maidens fern, hand-tied with an ivory ribbon. Her bridesmaids sported ruffled collar dresses, a perfect complement to their bouquets. The handsome groom and groomsmen wore classic suits and green bow ties to add to the southern charm. Their lapels were covered in simple hypericum berry boutonnieres, and the groom stood out with his full peach peony to match his bride.

On the heels of the ceremony, Gus and Katherine wanted to highlight their Southern lifestyle throughout their wedding decor, food and music. The couple’s reception took place at the King Plow Event Gallery on the vibrant west side of Atlanta. The space, once a functioning plow factory, boasts high ceilings, exposed brick and the original concrete sealed flooring dating back to 1902. The couple hosted their cocktail hour in the middle gallery space surrounded by an ombre peach lantern chandelier over their magnificent bar. Cocktail tables were dressed in apple green linens and topped off with peach campanella garden roses. Katherine and Gus both have a passion for local music and selected bluegrass band Parker Smith and the Bandwidth to perform at their wedding after attending their concert earlier in the year. The band played an unplugged set as guests sipped their bourbon cocktails.

As the staff pulled back the heavy curtains to reveal the reception gallery, the guests were seated at tables draped in classic ivory linens with natural burlap overlays. Lush floral arrangements topped the tables with their organic design with white hydrangeas and  spray roses, peach lisianthus, “happy romance” hypericum berries, garden roses and yellow billy balls with accents of garden ferns. The 18-person estate table sat at the center of the room, covered in pistachio linens with a modern geometric pattern. Glass bubbles, strung on peach ribbon, hung from the ceiling with delicate floral arrangements in their glass enclosures. Katherine’s sister, an artist and jewelry designer, created “Bride” and “Groom” signs that hung from their chairs with super-sized Scrabble letters — the couple’s favorite game. Guests dined on traditional southern fare including shrimp and grits, beef tenderloin and fried green tomatoes. The couple and their guests danced the night away and enjoyed a traditional Greek snack called koufetas, hand-prepared by the bride and her family.

Atlanta Wedding Cinematic Trailer from 3Ring Media

One of my all time, hands down, favorite things is a couple that can make me smile + fall in love with them, without ever meeting them. Which is why I am maybe the worlds biggest fan of wedding cinematography, and especially 3Ring Media. They are able to capture the essence of the couple on the biggest day of their lives, which is pretty much a guarantee of that warm, fuzzy feeling. You will love this Atlanta couple. LOVE them.

I’ll have to preface this story by sharing a few details of my first visit to Aaron’s house. He spoke of his hometown in NewYork. He showed me a book which featured the 1,000 Islands and The Boldt Castle. Throughout his house, there was various pictures of the castle. He explained its history and I decided that I had to visit one day.

Four months later, I got my chance! July 2010, we flew to Watertown, NY where Aaron introduced me to his entire family. Immediately, I just loved them and their family’s lovely river cottage! Everyday was filled with excursions on the St. Lawrence River and family fun. And of course, one of those family excursions was to The Boldt Castle. I knew back then there was something magical about the castle on Heart Island…

One year later, I was lucky enough to be invited back. On Sunday, July 24, 2011, Aaron and I went for a run. Upon returning, everyone was hungry and it was decided we would go eat. We all jumped in the boat that Aaron’s stepfather had spent the entire day cleaning (you’ll know why later). There were 9 of us in the boat and all but one had seen it. She had suggested we stop by the castle as they were all in cahoots. I heard a few moans and groans from these reluctant actors. Luckily, I expressed my fondness of the castle. And it was decided that we would go for a bit.

We walked through the entrance and up to the castle while taking pictures along the way. The family walked into the castle as Aaron asked me to join him for a walk along the river’s edge. We walked by a beautiful heart shaped garden. Aaron asked if I’d like to sit on the bench facing the St. Lawrence River. This is where he got down on one knee. The family witnessed his proposal from the castle. Afterward, we reunited with them. As I ran to Aaron’s mother, there were tears of joy and laughter. I love sharing this moment with all of them! Now the pictures in our house have a wonderfully new meaning.

The Wimbish House is one of Atlanta’s beloved landmarks. Built in 1906, it is one of the few remaining homes along what was once known as Atlanta’s fashionable “Mansion Row”. Here’s a little story for you on why The Wimbish House is so special to me. First, what can I say but I love the Midtown area. I had lived in Midtown for 8 years. During that time, I walked by The Wimbish House almost every Saturday night on my way to work. I remember making note of how lovely the house and celebration seemed as so many were married there over the years. But what I didn’t know is that one day it would be my turn.

When planning our wedding, I was heavily inspired by romance, traditions, and family. With every decision, I was influenced by one or all of the above. I wanted to show my love through the details. Our vision was a romantic vintage theme with The Wimbish House as the showcase. Pink and white peonies, red and pink ranunculus, and white freesia all accented the bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, and arrangements. Throughout the Wimbish House, we decorated with our parents’ wedding pictures and our engagement pictures. Special touches of bird votive holders, bird vases, and birdcages were sprinkled throughout. Also, poems such as “I Carry Your Heart” & “If You Live To Be A Hundred” were displayed on large wooden signs. Family tradition is important to us. We were thrilled to use my family’s wedding cake knife. In addition, I honored the tradition of carrying “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence in her shoe”. Also, I found it special that Aaron and I were married by my uncle just as my parents were married by my mother’s uncle.

From the Bride… Scott and I were engaged in February and couldn’t wait to get married, so we picked a date six months later in August before the school year started (Scott is in medical school, and I’m a high school teacher). It was a whirlwind experience, but we had the time of our lives. I began planning the wedding while living in Richmond, Virginia, and picked a venue in Roswell, Georgia, near where we both grew up. My mom was a huge help in scouting out the venues in the area. Once we found Kimball Hall, we knew it was perfect for us. Over the summer I was able to move home for a couple months to plan the wedding while Scott was away at Naval officer training. With Scott and I being apart for the two months leading up to the wedding, it made planning more challenging, but it made the whole experience that much more exciting when were finally reunited for the wedding.

Our overall concept was a casual, Southern style event with some traditional components. Our color scheme of yellow and gray also played an important role. This concept and color scheme was the inspiration for many of the details. Kimball Hall is a beautiful, rustic, Southern home with inviting character and was our ideal setting. The floral arrangements of white, yellow, and peach flowers were accented with a yellow “pop” from lemon centerpieces. My mother’s hand-made gray table runners added a cozy, creative feel and rounded out the traditional silver table decorations. We made several of the decorations for the event by hand, including the table numbers in antique frames, the seating charts in old window-panes and unique programs for the ceremony. The groomsmen wore a more casual, cobalt gray suit with striped, yellow ties. The bridesmaids wore a lighter, ash gray dress of their choosing with fun yellow shoes. Our bouquets had splashes of yellow and white. As a special detail, Scott and I each had a feather — one in my bouquet and his boutonnière. Birds of a feather fly together!

Our guests were greeted at the reception with a hand-written chalkboard note from us and a signature cocktail. We served adult Arnold Palmers with sweet tea vodka and lemonade in mason jars. Our menu was deliciously prepared by Avalon Catering and offered classy, Southern fare. Our cake was a simple tiered cake with ruffled, white butter cream frosting, to complement the ruffles in my dress. Our cake topper was two small, handmade, wire birds (I love birds!). For dessert, we did not offer a groom’s cake. Instead, we had an ice-cream sundae bar that was a huge hit. To tie in the theme, there were plenty of bright yellow candies and sprinkles for the guests to top their sundaes with. It was such an amazing day. Our friend and minister, Dave Lewis, delivered a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony. The reception was memorable and fun. We received so many compliments from friends and family; everyone had a great time. Our photographer, Jacquie Rives, did an amazing job and has captured some breathtaking memories for us. In the end, though, what matters most, is that this wonderful day marks the beginning of our lives together… our lifelong adventure. We could not be happier.

From Scobey PhotographyRain pelted the windows hard and relentlessly. Thunder roared from the gray Georgia sky, and the entire room took a collective sigh. Everyone except for her. She was staring into the distance, and she was smiling. The weather was the furthest thing from her mind. She was thinking of him. Her best friend, her confidant, her accomplice in world-traveling adventures and her dance partner. There was no sighing from the place where she sat, calmly having the finishing touches of her makeup applied; only the breathing in of love, and the exhale of joy.

Atlanta Wedding at The Vinings Club from Brita Photography

Atlanta is one of my all-time favorite cities. Not only did it provide fond memories while I visited my (now) husband in his college years, but Atlanta also offers the perfect blend of urban city glam with woodsy wonderfulness. Case in point, this sweet wedding from Brita Photography. The giant, beautiful windows of The Vinings Club looked out across the trees to the Atlanta skyline and made a ceremony backdrop that wedding lovers only dream about. See every moment in our gallery right here.

From Brita PhotographyLydia and Anthony were married at at The Vinings Club. The beautiful ceremony was held on the main level, which features floor-to-ceiling marble and huge 20-foot windows that overlook the perfect city view of downtown Atlanta. After the ceremony, we wandered all around the property, stopping to take pictures around the gardens, which were covered in blooming flowers and bushes. Lydia and Anthony made their grand entrance into the romantic ballroom. As they celebrated the night away, the view of the city became even more breathtaking. Atlanta Wedding at Le Fais do-do from Jamie Howell Photography

This minimalist bride and her eclectic Southern groom combined their styles for a wedding theme dubbed “Modern Farmdustrial.”  Both the church and reception venue, Le Fais do-do, were blank-slates and the couple took full advantage, creating a black+ white fête with rustic touches that was uniquely them! Throw in a stunning tiered Rivini gown, some adorable DIY elements and we’ve got a recipe for wedding success. Be sure to check out the gallery full of pretty from Jamie Howell Photography!

From the Bride… A co-worker nicknamed the style of our wedding as “Modern Farmdustrial.” Indeed, our overall style was a mashup of our personalities. I’m the introverted one with a very modern, clean, minimalistic style. Matt is the southern Army dude whose eclectic style would find a place in your grandmother’s home.

Both the ceremony and reception took place in two different industrial warehouses in midtown Atlanta. Our church is a clean slate, which we lit up with hundreds of pillar candles. Clean and simple, nothing else. No attendants, just us making a commitment to each other in front of God. It was a joy to serve communion to our guests as our first act as a married couple. We also didn’t introduce any color into our palette, just black and white with some gray, ivory and cream. To compromise with Matt and bring in some of his southern style, I did use wood as an organic element throughout. Wood planks down the tables. Some burlap. Wood signs painted with chalkboard paint. The only “flowers” were dried cotton or stems. We even kept our cake clean and simple with no frosting or other embellishments. My favorite part of the wedding were the countless DIY projects I tackled. I made our own wedding logo into a stamp and we DIYed all our print materials. We created an “I Spy” Instagram game for our guests, which turned out to be a huge hit! Matt and I really enjoyed thumbing through all the tagged photos the day after our wedding. Matt even brewed all the beer for the wedding! And so much more.

Matt and I are avid motorcycle riders, so we made our bikes part of the reception space, and we surprised guests with a motorcycle send off! And since Matt is active duty Army, we enjoyed the traditional military honors after our ceremony. Finally, my dad and I surprised our guests with a hilarious father-daughter dance. My dad came up with the idea, mixed the music and even did the choreography! One of my favorite splurges of the wedding was my custom Rivini gown. I also purchased a beautiful black Rivini statement necklace. One of Matt’s favorite parts of the wedding was walking around with a sword all day and even cutting our cake with it!

Historic Roswell Wedding from Artstar by Laura Stone

We kind of have a favorite color here at SMP and that color is overwhelmingly pink. It’s perfectly girly, soft and romantic, and it can be the perfect punch of vibrancy a wedding needs. Needless to say, when a wedding like this comes along, with so many pretty in pink moments, we immediately put it on our favorites list. Especially when it’s captured so utterly fabulously by Artstar by Laura Stone. Click here for even more!

When Ryan and I started planning our wedding, we decided our top priority was to throw a really fun party. We wanted good food, a great band, and to be surrounded by our family and friends all spending a fantastic evening together. When all was said and done, we truly felt that we had succeeded.

I had always wanted an outdoor wedding, so soon after we got engaged, the search was on for the perfect venue. I grew up a few miles from historic Roswell, home to almost a dozen historic, southern homes turned into event facilities. We chose the Gardens at Great Oaks because we loved the grounds and the ballroom was perfectly sized for our 130 count guest list.

For 12 months, I pictured our ceremony in the gardens on a beautiful spring day. Unfortunately, the weather forecast did not cooperate, and two days before the wedding we decided to move the ceremony inside to the chapel next door. Planning a wedding is a major lesson in how to “go with the flow!” Fortunately, our guests could walk from Great Oaks to the chapel, so no announcement of the change in plans was necessary. In the end, it did not rain, and we still had a beautiful cocktail hour in the garden (complete with cornhole, bocce ball, and a jazz quartet), and the perfect indoor/outdoor reception that I had pictured.

Atlanta Wedding from Alex the Photo Guy

It’s no secret that we have a real love around here at SMP for weddings that include dogs, but this beauty at a sweet little park in Whittier Mill Village also comes with one of my most recent obsessions: a food truck. Ibiza Bites catered this wedding right out of their adorable orange truck with delicious plates all nestled in the delightfully rustic Big House. And when you bring homemade pies into the picture, we can’t help but fall hopelessly in love with this entire day perfectly captured by Alex the Photo Guy. See the rest of how this sweet couple started their “happily ever after” in our gallery, right here.

From the Bride… After attending a work teambuilding event in a pretty public park, I decided it would be the perfect place to get married! My fiancé, fearing heat, or worse, rain, made his only wedding-related request that the reception be inside. So I finally found a loft downtown with a cool, open feel with brick walls (I love old brick!) that was perfect. I decided I liked the casual, fun feel of a food truck and found one that served amazing food (and saved money on renting plates, glasses and serveware)!  This is the part of the post that I tell you not to listen to everyone’s comments… Lots of family and friends didn’t “get” my casual, food-truck, mismatched-bridesmaids, park wedding, and their comments and concerns definitely wore on me at times. But I knew what I wanted and tried to remind myself that they would love the final product when it all came together. I was running out of steam searching for a photographer (one of my priorities!) within budget when one of my bridesmaids recommended a guy we graduated with who had a photography business. I checked his website and portfolio and was relieved when he said he still had the date open and loved the idea of working with someone I actually knew!  This wound up working perfectly because he did a great job keeping us comfortable and laughing in front of the camera — neither of us are naturals!

I saved additional cash by buying my dress as a sample (but then spent $700 getting it cut down three sizes, so some things may have equaled out…), buying loose flowers and creating the bridesmaids bouquets, my bouquet, boutonnieres and having my bridesmaids put together the table flowers. I bought the tablecloths (for the same price as renting), and my fiancé and friends decorated the day before (and morning of). We had friends and family bring homemade pies, and I ordered four round cakes for the dessert table. The bridesmaids picked any dress they wanted in yellow; I made my dog Satchel’s leash, collar and bow tie; and the groomsmen wore their own grey suits. We skipped a limo and had (our wonderful) friends drive us and brought in beer, wine and a signature cocktail. There are TONS of moving parts in planning an event (Did you know you need sound amplification for the ceremony (duh)? Did you know you need a generator in a park to run it? Did you know you need a special generator permit in a public park??? Gah!). Just try to write everything down and handle it as it comes up. Talking the event through to friends and family can also help you find the holes and areas that need attention.

We didn’t have a coordinator, though looking back I think I would have sprung for a day-of coordinator to handle the little things that came up. Thankfully my fiancé’s (amazing, beautiful, fantastic) cousin stood in as a volunteer coordinator who saved us on so many fronts! Thank you, Angie! Our friends and family were AMAZING. They helped set up, decorate, serve cake, break everything down and generally were supportive and wonderful in every way. The day went by in a whirlwind but I can say that I have never felt so loved and so blessed as I did that weekend when all of our friends and family came together and did everything in their power to make the day everything that we had dreamed of. It truly is a surreal experience to have every person you love in one room at the same time. Enjoy it!

Atlanta Wedding from Paula O’Hara Photography

Let me start by saying I couldn’t possibly fit all of the heart-stoppingly romantic photos by Paula O’Hara into one short post and thankfully we’ve got an entire gallery overflowing with beauty! This Atlanta-born bride met her Irish groom while traveling abroad, and since their future would bring a move to Europe for her, they decided on a Georgia wedding surrounded by family and friends. Southern charm + rustic details in the most perfectly muted palette can be found everywhere in this stunner of a celebration designed by the bride with the help of some incredibly creative vendors. See the rest right here!

From the Bride… I’m Alise and I’m originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Conor and I met in Ireland July of 2011 while I was traveling around Europe. We locked eyes in a pub on my last night there, and I was instantly smitten with his accent and good looks! We never thought we’d see one another again because I was flying out to London the next day. I’ve always believed that if something is meant to be, it will be. We ended up seeing one another again and after months of skyping and emailing, I flew back to Ireland for two weeks the following October. During those two weeks, we fell crazy in love. We knew we could make this relationship work, no matter the distance. Conor shockingly proposed in December of that year and the wedding planning began! After a whirlwind romance and months of being separated, we finally tied the knot on April 28, 2012!

At the start of the planning process, we held two things very important: photography and the incorporation both of our cultures and traditions. We decided that since I was moving to Ireland, we would have our wedding in Atlanta, where I’m from. Our wedding was a mixture of ‘old world’ southern elegance mixed with a bit of Irish charm. I was the events planner at our reception venue for over two years, so I witnessed many weddings there, and I knew exactly how I wanted mine to look. I’m a very detail-oriented person and wanted everything at our wedding to have special meaning. With the help of Style Me Pretty and other wedding blogs out there, I decided to take on most of the decorating and details myself. The women in my family are all antique lovers, so I had quite a collection to choose from to create our centerpieces. I am also immensely blessed with very talented friends who devoted much of their time helping me make all the DIY elements of our day. One of my favorite details are the jam jar favors, which I handmade and put together with my dad and sweet grandma who wasn’t able to attend the wedding due to her health. I also wore my mom’s veil that she wore on my parent’s wedding day 29 years ago. The planning itself was stressful at times, but in the end it was worth it to see all the hard work come together for such an amazingly beautiful day. I’m actually now a budding wedding stylist here in Ireland, hoping to bring America’s fresh and beautiful creative ideas to this side of the Atlantic!

After being apart for so long, our wedding day was a perfect beginning to the rest of our lives together, but also a heartbreaking goodbye with all my dearest family and friends as I just moved to Ireland. The pure joy and love that surrounded us that day was incredible. It was truly like a dream, and we couldn’t have wished for anything better! None of that would have been possible though without our amazing family and friends, we are truly blessed and thankful for them! Also, Paula O’Hara made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera and is such a joy to work with. She truly captured the beautiful and emotional moments of our day, as well as the in-between ones too. She has given us such beautiful images that we will always hold dear!

Atlanta Wedding at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center from Juli Vaughn Designs

You could say that I am slightly obsessed (read: totally obsessed) with all things Jane Austen, so when I first read that this darling Atlanta wedding was inspired by a scene from Emma, I knew I was going to love every.last.second of wedding bliss.  And, oh my goodness, do I ever.  From the oh-so-romantic purple hues to the sweet stylings of Juli Vaughn Designs to the beyond glorious images captured by CWF Photography, this, my lovelies, is a vintage-inspired masterpiece.  And totally Jane approved.  See so much more right here.

From the Bride… For our wedding, Ryan and I wanted to embrace the idea of relaxed romance, so we decided to go with a vintage-inspired picnic theme. My initial inspiration came from a picnic scene in the movie Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow, where they bring along tables, china and beautiful linens. This seemed like such a wonderful idea for a wedding: an elegant, upscale picnic. Once I had this vision, everything else started falling into place.

Our venue, the Retreat at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, was one of my first choices, and the minute I stepped into the beautiful room, with its exposed beams and mason fireplace, I knew it was the perfect place. The gardens were a gem hidden in the big city of Atlanta and gave us the picture perfect, romantic vision we were seeking for the ceremony. Because the garden was so beautiful and naturally decorated, we didn’t need to add much. As far as the reception site, we rented beautiful farm tables from Four Inch Fold and placed burlap runners and vintage lace (from a trunk in my mom’s attic) on top, then used heirloom silver pieces and vintage books to bring it all together. For our sweetheart table, we used a pub table that my parents bought 20 some years ago when traveling. Initially, our invitations were going to be simple white invitations bought from a website. However, as with everything else, I wanted something unique and special, so with the help of my mom, we designed our own custom invitations. They turned out amazing, printed on canvas with a button attaching all the pieces together. In addition to the invitations, my mom and I made the place cards, napkin rings and our favors, which were Farkle games (a dice game similar to Yahtzee). For the favors, we found plastic containers, made custom stickers for the top and wrapped the outside with burlap, purple ribbon and a vintage safety pin holding it all together. Our families are big gamers, so instead of dancing at the wedding, we decided to play a round of Apples to Apples and ended with Farkle.

One of the most important (and personal favorite) aspects of the wedding was the fashion. My dress was actually the second dress I bought because the first one did not have the vintage feel I was looking for. So I went back to Bride Beautiful and found a great dress that fit me perfectly. The only problem was it was about 18 inches too long and had the wrong neckline! I customized the dress to be the perfect tea length, changed the neckline to a deep sweetheart and added a Swarovski studded belt. For my matron of honor, I found an adorable, cream-c0lored, Nanette Lepore dress that she will surely wear again. The men were dressed in tan suits, and Ryan wore an amazing purple and gray Burberry tie. The most adorable aspect of the day were my five nieces and nephews. The girls wore frilly cream dresses with stylish gladiator sandals, and the boys were decked out in tan and white seersucker pants, vests and newsboy caps. In addition, the boys wore purple ties that my wonderful sister-in-law made just for this occasion. I’m afraid that the kids stole the show!

In the end, our wedding was a beautiful day that really captured our love for life, for our family and most importantly, our love for each other.

From the Bride… Clifton and I are from opposite sides of the country — Los Angeles and Atlanta — and we met in Rhode Island. Seven years, bouts of long-distance and two graduate degrees later, we have friends all over the country, and we wanted to bring them all together, with our families, for a hitchin’ celebration that was fun and comfortable. To honor the memory of those who couldn’t be with us and to symbolize the coming-together of our families, Clifton carried his grandfather’s pocket knife and my grandmother’s handkerchief stitched with the word “Memories” in Italian, and I laced a light blue ribbon from Clifton’s baptismal gown into my dress with a bit of family lace and a button from my grandmother. In my bouquet, I carried a delicate lace handkerchief Clifton’s mom got thirty years ago, hoping it would one day go to Clifton’s bride.

We picked Greystone at Piedmont Park for our ceremony and reception because it was a beautiful, natural setting right in the heart of Atlanta but provided a little shelter from the February weather. Guests stayed across the street at the W Hotel Midtown and walked through the park to our ceremony. As soon as they were inside, the skies opened up, and rain showered down while we said our vows. The raindrops made the candlelight all the more sparkly. We stayed dry and warm, dancing the night away, and the rain stopped just in time to throw petals for our getaway.

We can’t say enough about our photographers, Chris and Allie from The Reason I Love, and our event coordinator and florist, Brette Start. They perfectly captured the fun, family, friends, and togetherness that we’d hoped to feel on our wedding weekend. We couldn’t have done it without them, and we now count them among our friends.

Atlanta Photo Shoot at Swan House from Tim Duncan Events

Tim Duncan Events is closing out this week on SMP Georgia with a photo shoot pretty enough for the big screen. Swoon-worthy, if I may say. It’s a dance between romantic and chic, and all captured beautifully by Christi Sue Photography. The team behind this photo shoot created fairytale magic, and you can see it all dancing around in the full gallery of images!

From Tim Duncan EventsWhen Christi Sue of Christi Sue Photography and I first sat down to discuss our ideas for this photo shoot, we knew we wanted something that was clean and chic, with a touch of classic elegance. We knew the historic Swan House in Atlanta would be the perfect place to tell the story of our lovely bride and groom. The Renaissance-styled architecture and plush green lawns provided the perfect backdrop to the classic elements we infused into this shoot, while adding the right touch of sophistication and elegance. I reached out to some of the most talented wedding professionals in Atlanta to help bring my vision to life. In order to maintain the concept of clean and elegant, I kept the color scheme simple. Nothing screams fresh and chic more than pure white. I chose to accent it with silver, purple and sparkle (everybody loves a little sparkle in their life!).

Our table was draped in beautiful white ruffled linen, accented with Victorian, lilac, satin napkins provided by Connie Duglin Linens. To continue with this classic elegance, we used baroque-style silverware; silver-rimmed glassware; silver, beaded, crystal chargers and silver chiavari chairs. Blossoms Atlanta created amazingly beautiful floral centerpieces of beautiful fresh pink peonies and purple irises draped in crystals and wrapped in moss. The bejeweled, three-tier cake was provided by Sweet Sensations and the couple’s chic menu cards and invitations were provided by Poetic Twist. The bride’s gown was provided by Bel Fiore Bridal and the groom’s tuxedo was provided by Black Tie by Lori, the sister store to Bridals by Lori of “Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta” fame. Rentals were provided by Classic Party Rentals Atlanta, and the beautiful chiavari chairs were provided by Sweet Seats.

For this shoot, we imagined that our bride and groom are hopeless romantics who are modern and chic but appreciate classic style. Our couple enjoyed an intimate wedding that was enchanting and magical. The atmosphere had the perfect blend of classic renaissance with accents of chic elegance — definitely a night to remember.

Atlanta Wedding at Swan House from Red Fly Studio

For each wedding I blog about, I find there’s typically an aspect or two that stands out. In this wedding by Red Fly Studio it’s the drop dead gorgeous setting of the Swan House venue and picture perfect florals by Jackson Durham, the tasty food truck, the stylish stationary, the cake, the oh and did I mention the Manolo Blahnik heels!? Did I say one or two? This entire day consistently fabulous thanks to the event planning of TOAST. Be sure to take in every detail in the full gallery.

From Red Fly StudioErinn and Will’s wedding was so lovely! They were married on the lawn of the gorgeous Swan House in Atlanta. We think Erinn picked out the perfect dress and bridesmaids’ dresses to complement the beautiful scenery. Erinn and Will were so much fun to work with. At the reception, everyone had a wonderful time, and they ended the night with a fun exit with glow sticks. Before Erinn and Will rode off in a gelato truck, they served their guests scoops of yummy gelato.
