From Amalie of Amalie Orrange PhotographyI have been dying to shoot in an orange grove because how fitting it is that my last name is Orrange. I just happened to have one of my brides ask if we could do her engagement session at her maid of honor’s family grove, and of course, I obliged! It was 2,000 acres of bliss, mossy oak trees, an amazing vintage truck and gorgeous orange blossoms — the air smelled so sweet!

St. Augustine Wedding at The Oldest House by Ben Sasso

From their movie-worthy meeting to their joyful St. Augustine wedding, this gorgeous couple’s relationship has been romance to the very max!  Their crazy, beautiful love for each other just shines through these images by Ben Sasso.  And speaking of beautiful, their fabulous Indian-meets-France wedding is just beyond.  It is full of style, vibrant details and one of the most killer first dances I’ve ever seen!  Click here to see it all!

From Ben Sasso This wedding was the epitome of romance. It was so beautiful too see how in love these two are. Thibaut and Pooja met salsa dancing in France while he was finishing his studies and she was teaching English. Sounds like a movie, I know. If it was a movie, I would own it. Their wedding was a beautiful fusion of French and Indian culture. As typical with Indian weddings, Pooja had henna done on her hands and feet the day before the wedding. After getting ready at The Kenwood Inn in St. Augustine, the ceremony was held at The Oldest House (one of my favorite venues), and the reception took place in the loft and on the roof of The White Room.

From the Bride… As I started to plan our wedding, I realized how very fortunate I was to be surrounded by wonderful friends in the wedding industry who could help make our vision come to life. Our hope was to have a simple and elegant wedding full of quiet reminders of our families and friends.

Thanks to the reception site being close to a yacht club and a friend’s yacht, our photographers captured some moments after we became Mr. and Mrs. that were really fun and special! Beautiful outdoor lights, wrought iron, a fountain and an aquarium filled with two manatees made for a unique reception site, which complemented the neutral color palette and feel we were aiming for. Our vision was achieved through a beautiful mix of flowers, linens, chargers, candles and draping, along with the oh-so-important chairs, and all of that came to life because of our talented planners and best friends from Botanica International Design Studio. The use of white, ivory and champagne flowers mixed with the succulents and mahogany urns was an elegant and seamless way to incorporate the rustic and modern touches we were hoping to accomplish on our wedding day. Food, alcohol (Ian’s a sommelier and in the wine and spirits industry!) and fun were also at the very top of our list, and we enlisted in the help of top local vendors to make sure our guests left with fully bellies and sore feet!

Every element incorporated to make our day so special all happened because of our outstanding team of vendors who made all of our wedding dreams come true, but the best part is that I get to spend the rest of my life with a pretty amazing guy!

Miami Wedding at Coral Gables Country Club by KT Merry Photography

The second this beauty landed in our inbox, we were chomping at the bit to share. Honestly, we spotted it yesterday and slapped that puppy up faster than you could bat an eyelash. It’s straight out of a magazine with a couple that clearly missed their calling as wedding models. I guess a real life Mr. and Mrs. with crazy beautiful images by KT Merry Photography will have to suffice. And the Bride in her layers of Vera Wang and that hat with just the right punch of sass; it’s MAJ.  See it all right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… Brad and I met and fell in love seven years ago at Florida State University. After graduation, I moved to New York City to pursue a career in the fashion industry while he moved back home to Maryland to work on his MBA. On what I thought was an impromptu visit to NYC, Brad surprised me with a romantic proposal in Central Park to which I excitedly said yes. I have always pictured our wedding back in my hometown of Miami, so I began DIY planning from 1,100 miles away in NYC. Spring romance was the vision for our wedding and using a vision board helped me to organize my thoughts. Fortunately I had my family, and I relied on key websites. Style Me Pretty popped up during an internet search for photographers and quickly became my main online resource. Here on SMP, I found KT — she posted an amazing engagement photo shoot that took place in Haiti, and I knew she was the right person to capture the spirit of our day.

In terms of a venue, I always knew that I wanted an atrium for the ceremony site. My idea was to bring the outside indoors and create an enchanting environment for us to exchange our vows. My florist Jose was able to create an amazing arch to frame the ceremony site and brought in greenery to enhance the feeling of springtime romance. During the planning process, my father became terminally ill and passed away less than five months before the wedding, which made me question everything. I could not have gotten through it without Brad and the encouragement of my family. Planning the wedding helped me channel my energy in a positive way.

It was important to have personal touches that were unique to Brad and me and reflected us as a couple. I wore a bee brooch, which referenced us, and I also wanted to keep it fun, so we booked a photo booth and had cute paper straws with great quotes on them like “B loves B.” The color gold became a theme that started with the invites and continued onto my centerpieces, and I also used a bunch of gold frames for pictures of Brad and me at the entrance of the ceremony. I had my florist spray paint the tall centerpieces gold, and I also I found these great mirrors that I used as table numbers. One of my favorite things was a wishing tree that served a replacement for a guestbook — I loved reading the well-wishes the day after the wedding! Though you can’t plan for everything, I have to say my special day was a day filled with everything I wanted!

Miami Wedding at the Fire Tower by Kristen Wynn Photography

Oh.my.goodness, does this gorgeous bride have one seriously talented family.  (Seriously. Talented.) Not only did her mother create all of the beautiful blooms that you are about to spend hours soaking in, but her sweet as can be grandmother MADE HER DRESS.  Yep, that gorgeous tea-length bundle of wedding dress perfection was all handcrafted with love by her Nana and, my oh my, is it amazing.  Add to that a fabulous Miami soiree and some glorious images by Kristen Wynn Photography and well. We’re in DIY heaven.  See it all here.

From Kristen of Kristen Wynn PhotographyDeidra and Andres chose to celebrate their early spring nuptials with a hint of vintage Miami with the theme “Grand Fete.” Deidra’s gown was handmade by her grandma and was tea-length, allowing her to show off her green shoes. After the ceremony was over, she switched her veil for a handmade reception fascinator crafted from feathers. Bright green and sunny yellow were the colors of choice, and the guest transportation (school buses) fit right in with their look. The bridesmaids chose their own gowns, while the groomsmen donned their own suits. The groom accessorized with a watch gifted to him by his father, but before he got dressed in a brand new suit himself, he and the groomsmen had some fun modeling Panamanian masks that represent Andres’ family heritage. At the reception, the guests found small colorful flags handmade by Deidra and used them to welcome the couple as they entered the room and danced their first dance to an old-fashioned swing number.

West Palm Beach Wedding from Jonathan Connolly Photography

This West Palm Beach wedding was so chic I was blown away in a display of gorgeous images from Jonathan Connolly Photography. The soiree, planned with buckets full of love by the bride and her mother, was everything dreams are made of. A sweet ambiance, a beautiful bride, and details so sweet, there is a slight danger of a toothache. When I read that the entire wedding was almost blown away, literally, I couldn’t believe it. Everything was perfect – including the hurricane that almost crashed the party. Click here for the rest!

When Marc and I got engaged, the words that kept circulating about the feel of our wedding were, “about us” and “a big party”. We wrote down a list of everything that we felt we liked… long meals and our favorite foods, cupcakes, intimate and cozy, great drinks, outdoors, music everyone would enjoy, a blending of his european traditions, and my [american] traditions.

Most importantly, we wanted our guests to come to a place that was us. Somewhere we had made memories together, and place we both loved with every ounce of our beings. We both went to Rollins College, and spent every weekend we could visiting his father and stepmother’s home on the intercostal waterway in West Palm Beach, FL. We loved lazy lunch outside under the palapa with his family, bike riding along the lake trail, spending afternoons on the boat, bringing our dog to dinner with us at our favorite al fresco pizza place, and visiting the beach just in time to catch the sunset. So when his father and stepmom offered up the very house that we had spent so much time falling in love at, we couldn’t have been more excited.

By the time we stopped dreaming, and started planning, my mom and I had a little less that four months to go. My mom and I alone had worked so tirelessly on every detail of this wedding. I worked closely with Ashley to design my save the date and wedding suite, and designed all of the other wedding literature. My mom spent hours on the phone communicating exactly what I wanted to the florist despite being 2,500 miles away. I sat at the dining table for what felt like 10 days straight cutting, tying, assembling… You can imagine how I felt when I woke up the morning of the wedding, and all I could hear was the wind shuttering the hurricane doors in our bedroom. My mom came up stairs and asked why I wasn’t out of bed yet, I told her I had lived in Florida for five years and had never heard wind like that and that I didn’t want to get out of bed and see what the situation really was. Everyone had as casually as possible talked me into a tent the night before the wedding – but I still didn’t have one for the ceremony area.

She opened the curtains and together we opened the hurricane doors onto the patio, we pretty much were blown back inside. There were even waves on the pool. I had never in all my time there seen something like it, I kept thinking “just yesterday we were sunbathing on the bow of the boat”.

Memories from the night before and our beyond lovely and sweet grooms dinner in the courtyard our favorite little pizza place reminded me that the day might be ok. The rain started coming down right after everyone finished dessert – but everyone throughly enjoyed themselves, as did we.

With that, my bridesmaids, aunts, and friends who had flown in the wedding were all off to the salon. I loved that every moment of the wedding weekend was filled with so many people I loved. The fact that my mom and sister, all my girlfriends (even the ones who weren’t in the wedding party), my aunts, cousins, and serious girlfriends of my cousins were there with me. “The more the merrier” is a phrase you often hear in our family, and it couldn’t have been truer that day. The salon had prepared goodies and champagne for us – it was the ultimate girls morning. My stylist was so funny because large potted trees kept blowing over outside and she would say “Oh, I think the landscapers are doing some work”

When I got home, I overheard my dad showing my mom and picture of the weather radar. At that point, they had no other choice than to tell us that the eye of the tropical depression was set to blow through about the same time our ceremony was starting. The decision was made to go ahead as planned despite the 10-12 inches of rain and high winds headed our way.

Our photographer, his assistant, and his wife were beyond amazing – without them, the day wouldn’t have been the same. Looking back, they made our day look so beautiful and serene, even though the sky overhead was gray and dreary.

By some miracle, the eye of the storm fell exactly over us, and not a single drop of rain fell until midnight. Our friends are still talking about the vision of my veil flying behind me down the aisle. The wind kept everyone cool while dancing the night away on what would have been a normally humid florida evening. What really matters today is that Marc and I had the best time. Our appetizers were mini servings of our favorite food. Our parents had the best time dancing to classics from the 70’s, we got to speak to every single person at our wedding, the cupcakes were a variety of six of our favorite flavors, and every single person we talk to says how much fun they had that weekend.

Nautical Styled Photo Shoot at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn by Kt Crabb Photography

Thank you, thank you Kt Crabb Photography for sharing this lovely piece of nautical perfection! Which in my opinion makes this shoot just that much more adorable (if that’s even possible). So do yourself a favor this morning, and dive into the full gallery of images for even more!

From Katie of Kt Crabb PhotographyIt’s hard to grow up in Florida without dabbling in boating at some point or another. With that in mind, we knew we wanted a touch of that Florida mentality with the classy feel found in yacht clubs. Walt Disney World’s BoardWalk Inn offered just that in their hotel decor — after all, it’s modeled after Atlantic City’s boardwalk. Not to mention it has a lighthouse! Nautical style screams for blue and reds, but we thought it would be great to add a touch of yellow, especially seen in the flowers. Florida sun, your darling and sweet southern blueberry pies — oh goodness, what more could you ask for?

Ingrid and Wayne are high school … well, friends. They actually didn’t start dating until later in their college careers. Let’s face it, it’s scary to enter in a dating relationship with someone you have such a valuable friendship with! Their story couldn’t have been any more darling than a proposal right in front of the Magic Kingdom Cinderella castle while family and friends surrounded them. They were married on November 11th of last year and were such a blessing to join us in this shoot.

It was such a delight to have worked alongside such amazing and talented vendors. They saw the vision and made it come to life! TaylorMade Wedding and Event Flowers provided such a brilliant palette of colors and flowers. Emily Grace Design made the sweet banners, holders, and well basically any little detail you see. Yep, handmade. It was a great way to start the morning alongside these wonderful people!

From Sarah + Adam of InTandemMelissa and Ivan’s backyard wedding was a small, intimate affair with Venezuelan flair. They wanted their wedding to feel like a romantic picnic and a relaxed party for their 60 out-of-town guests. Gold-painted apples and sweets galore sat in a vintage armoire found at a thrift store. Couches and blankets offered poolside seating near a vintage television under lantern-lit palm trees. DIY projects included gold-painted apples, rice bags for the ceremony, flower arrangements, CD favors and handmade shoes and a hairpiece made by the bride’s designer sister.

Naples Wedding by KT Merry Photography

Florida has a wedding style all its own. It’s a little bit preppy, a lot-a bit glam all infused with a beach ambiance that we could spend the rest of our days staring at and be total happy campers. Although it could be the lack of sunny Vitamin D in Boston that gets us foaming at the mouth the second a Floridian affair crosses our path, we have a feeling it’s more about the the sheer beauty of KT Merry’s photographs. She has a way of capturing the most beautiful of details along with the sweetest of moments all in one perfect package. See more of this Naples affair right here.

From the Bride… When a wedding planner begins to plan HER wedding, she finds it’s not as easy as one would think. This bride has been an integral part of over 300 weddings and observed each and every detail with the hope of creating the perfect day for her own. That day was Saturday, October 22, 2011, in Naples, Florida. The vision was black tie with a twist! She and her fiancé wanted the guests formal, but playful, and they carried that idea through from the seersucker-inspired wedding invitations that read ‘colorful bowties requested’ to the custom linen bags that were delivered to each guest’s hotel room that said, ‘HOORAY’ and included a customized map of Naples hotels, restaurants, shopping, and the event sites drawn by her mother. This colorful “garden party” theme continued with the bridal party’s attire. The groom wore blue and white seersucker and a navy bow tie with Kelly green dots, the bride wore a blue pinky ring given to her by the groom the first Christmas after they met, her bouquet was surrounded by lace and buttons from her mother and grandmother’s wedding dresses, and the groomsmen wore navy suits with Kelly green and pink striped bow ties and pink pocket squares. The bridesmaids were in vibrant pink gowns with turquoise earrings, which were a wonderful find from a street vendor in New York.

The ceremony took place in a beautiful garden overlooking the Gulf of Mexico in the Port Royal neighborhood of Naples. After the guests were seated, the bride and her father were introduced by a choir soloist who sang “At Last.”  All the bride and groom’s friends and family found this to be a fitting song choice! They were married by her father’s college roommate, an Episcopal priest in Los Angeles who was once a writer for the hit show “M*A*S*H,” hence the comedy involved when exchanging their vows. After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while playing croquet with sets monogrammed with the bride and groom’s initials as they watched the sun set over the gulf. The tabletops contained antique tins filled with hot pink flowers similar to those carried by the bridesmaids.

The wedding party and guests were then transported by trolley to Café Lurcat, where the couple had their first date, a beautiful two story Mediterranean style building located on Fifth Avenue. As the guests entered, they were shown the seating chart, which was written on a large antique mirror, and ushered upstairs.  Soft blue lights cascaded over the hand-painted, domed ceiling, lush blue silk linens covered the tables, and thousands of candles and soft white florals placed in traditional silver and modern acrylic vases covered the tabletops. While enjoying dinner, an electric strings trio flown in from Philadelphia played, then a red velvet cake covered in white fondant cabbage roses was cut, and a special cake was presented to the bride’s father, who was also celebrating his 65th birthday. The guests were then asked to move downstairs for dancing. As they arrived, they were greeted by a cigar roller, whose presence was a gift from the bride to the groom. He loves a good cigar! The room was filled with amber light, imported crystal chandeliers, white and gold lounge furniture and a ten piece Motown band, who entertained the guests until they could dance no longer! It had all the elements of a modern day “Great Gatsby.”  It was the perfect day!

From Danny & Vicki of Starfish StudiosWhen people picture a wedding in Florida they typically think sun, sand and the ocean. We wanted to capture another side of Florida that is equally beautiful, and we found it at Estancia Culinaria. The property has been used as a second home for the owners and their family to escape the hustle and bustle of Miami. Now that the children are grown, the family has opened their doors to cater and host weddings and other special events. The details and craftsmanship throughout the home, the veranda and the chapel made of coral were inspirational. The gorgeous horses and working carriage, in addition to the amazing wood work, brick work and lush natural organic avocado fields, were the perfect backdrop to create and capture a wedding that can be described as “Rustic Elegance.

We reached out to Miranda from Sugar(ed) Occasions to design the look for the shoot. After she sent us her inspiration board, which she titled “Champagne in the Grove,” we knew she had the right vision. Mixing sophisticated details such as lace and gold with natural organic details such as wood and avocados was the perfect combination. Her ability to envision how each detail would work together created a beautiful and cohesive look for the shoot. The vision would not have been complete without the help of the other vendors as well. Ines from Ines Naftali Floral created the amazing floral designs using lush greens, ivories and even an artichoke that played perfectly with the avocados on the table. Angela from Amazing Grace Rentals provided dinnerware, linens, a chandelier, mirrors, the gorgeous yellow sofa and many of the details that provided an authentic vintage look. Sasha from Sasha’s Bridal Boutique had an amazing selection of dresses and knew the dresses that would work for the theme and location perfectly. The huge white dress in the grove was just the statement dress we needed. Tara from Ring Finger Studio bejeweled the bride and groom with timeless designs which included earrings, engagement rings and wedding bands.

We wanted the bride and groom to interact like they would at a real wedding. They were very playful with each other and even with the amazing cakes designed by the sweet Sandy of Sugar Fancies. The soft and classic look of the hair and makeup for the brides was created by the very talented Christie of Christie Lopez Makeup. Our favorite shots were taken during what photographers call the magic hour with the sun going down on the green grove and soft golden light spreading its reach we were blown away by the vision come to life.

And don’t miss this incredible film by Imprint Cinema!

From Carolina & Zekeshem of Blue Lane StudiosOur engagement shoot was inspired by the idea of a budding romance at a lake house. We wanted to incorporate elements of innocent, fun love with a slightly vintage feel. When we first spoke with Emily of Emily Grace Design, we pitched her our ideas and her eyes lit up when she informed us that she had the perfect location: her family’s lake house in Ocala! We almost fell out of our seats with excitement! It really was a match made in heaven!

We nailed down a date that worked for all the vendors involved and everyone made the early morning (6 a.m.!), hour and a half trek up to Ocala (some of us from Tampa, the others from Orlando). As we drove up, our hearts started to sink as we noticed that the further north we traveled, the darker, gloomier and rainier that it got. With so many people involved there was no turning back … and we accepted the challenge to shoot in the rain and still come up with amazing images. It actually drizzled for 75% of our shoot! We stood under umbrellas while shooting to protect our gear, while Danielle and Robert (our amazing Not Couple!) braved the elements. They were completely enthusiastic and up for anything we asked them to do, even lying down in the rain on marshy lake weeds! The heavy cloud cover made for some beautiful soft light, giving our day a cool and moody feel.

We wanted our images to tell the story of Danielle and Robert’s “Day at the Lake House” — hanging out on the cozy porch and sipping coffee, snuggling in for some early morning kisses, sneaking away for some alone time in the lake brush, exploring the abandoned property down the street, going for a mid-afternoon rowboat ride, and being fun and flirtatious in the water! Danielle and Robert definitely helped us to convey the sense of freedom, fun, romance and passion that we were looking for!

Boca Raton Wedding by Docuvitae + Element Weddings

A vibrant palette of flowers by Gil Sosa Floral Design meets the style musings of Element Weddings and Docuvitae’s eye for lovely images. That, my friends, is the makings of a wildly good looking wedding with a nod to the couple’s heritage set beautifully against the backdrop of the Bride’s modern, Florida home. And there’s way too many images to squeeze into one post so be sure to settle into the gallery for the full affair. It’s a knock-out from start to finish.

From Camilla of Element WeddingsSerendipity can often play a huge part in bringing me together with couples in the midst of wedding planning madness, and this was no exception. Haley and Lucas contacted me with only four months to spare before their big day, but despite the challenge of planning a destination wedding in such a short amount of time, I knew I had to be a part of this one. The bride and groom both have such unique, stylish points of view, and their creative ideas for their wedding inspired and excited me. Not to mention the fun aspect of combining all of their cultural backgrounds: Korean, Hawaiian and Iranian.

Set in the bride’s parent’s sleek, contemporary home in Boca Raton, I was set with the task of bringing Haley’s vision of a rustic, painterly feel to the wedding decor. The juxtaposition proved to be a stunning one. With antique rose pink, gold and cream as a palette, I incorporated modern pieces (mismatched white vases, sculptural glass candle holders, ombre napkin treatments) with more artsy, organic elements (vibrant and textural flowers, intricate gold place settings, rose-tinged wine glasses, burlap runners).  The result was a fabulous mix of old and new that perfectly reflected the couple’s hip, fashion-forward sensibilities as well as their softer, romantic side.

As for the multi-cultural aspect, there were fun nods to their heritages at every turn. The bride and groom wore leis for the ceremony, then changed into traditional Korean hanboks for cocktail hour to honor Lucas’s Hawaiian and Korean roots. The mother and aunt of the groom even performed an impromptu hula dance after the couple exchanged vows!  Later, as part of the dessert buffet, the bride’s mother treated guests to Iranian sweets and tea. It was a true blend of cultures and traditions, and an experience that the guests are not likely to forget.

From Rebekah of Kallima PhotographyAmanda + Willy are a gorgeous, down to earth, lively couple who got married on January 7th at the W Hotel South Beach. Both living and working in Washington D.C., but having dated and lived in Miami, the W Hotel was truly the perfect backdrop for their wedding. Amanda wore a Vera Wang gown named Fiona. Her bridesmaids gray, strapless gowns were accented by a black ribbon belt that Amanda herself designed and provided. Amanda’s father had passed away before her wedding day, so her sweet brother walked her down the aisle. The ceremony altar and aisles were adorned with bundles and bundles of baby’s breath — so simple and clean.

The modern, edgy, and eclectic design, coupled with the lush garden landscapes gave their wedding an upscale, modern and clean feel and look. Ocean Flowers by Guerdy provided the pops of color the green lawn needed with gorgeous orchids, peonies, garden roses, and hydrangeas. Willy and his family hail from Peru, so the signature cocktail served was a Peruvian Pisco Sour, and the favors were gorgeous, wood-wrapped Nuestra sodas monogrammed with Amanda and Willy’s names. Chevron print made an appearance in some of the picture frame quotes (quotes from everyone from Elvis to Coco Chanel) and was also the background of the board with table names and numbers. Purple was the main color of choice, showing up beautifully in the bouquets and table decor.

Amanda + Willy opted for a laid back reception with no real agenda, allowing for great flow and relaxing fellowship with their guests, who had all traveled from literally around the world to be there with them and celebrate this special day.

And the cherry on top is this perfect little film by LoveBug Productions!

From the Bride… I met my future husband Dave, a little over one year before we got engaged, and I knew right from the beginning of our relationship that he was “the one”. And once you find the one you want to spend the rest of your life with, why wait for the rest of your life to begin? This is why we only had a six month engagement. It is funny how life can be so bittersweet — going into planning mode for our big day, I had a hard time coming to terms with the fact that my father would not be with us because he had passed away two years prior. What helped me through this was being able to bring special little Chinese touches to our wedding day that would reflect a part of my father’s ethnic background — from the Buddha name card holders and Chinese takeout boxes for the candy table, to my favorite part of the night — the flying Chinese lanterns — I knew there wouldn’t be a moment of the day that I could look at these things and not smile.

Every part of our wedding day, I had my hands on. Even if we could have afforded an event planner, I probably would have had a hard time letting someone else take control! With a small budget and a beautiful blank canvas to work with, I let my creativity run wild. I found many of my DIY ideas from websites such as Style Me Pretty and Etsy. Some of my favorite projects my fiancé and I worked on were the sign for the flip-flops and basket (Kick off your heels and stay a while!), the Mr. & Mrs. chair signs, the wedding tree thumbprint picture (I painted the tree), the signature sangria drink sign, and our personal favorite: the ceremony/reception sign that my fiance made and I painted!

Our wedding day was hectic because we had to get everything done without seeing each other until I walked down the aisle, but I think it just made the day more unforgettable. The vibe of the day was exactly what we wanted: everyone (else) was relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed the natural beauty of the environment and decor. Every little thing fell into place, and, not to sound like every other bride, but the day just flew by! There were so many memories from our special day that I know we will cherish forever, and one of the most important ones will be that my mother-in-law was there with us. Six days after our wedding, she passed away. Life is short, but sweet. Even though my father was not with us, my mother (and sister) were, and Dave had both his parents with us on our special day. Family is the most important part of who we are, and with all of our loved ones surrounding us, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. My advice to all the brides to be out there: its OK to sweat the small stuff (in private, of course!), and you know how you swallow an elephant? One bite at a time. :)

From the Bride… When Josh and I got engaged, we knew we wanted to have the event in Tampa and wanted it to reflect old Tampa with a southern twist — we felt like our roots were both. I am also big on textures and shapes, which can be seen in every detail of our day. The ceremony was at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, which is where my parents and my sister were both married. I grew up in that church, so it made our day that much more special. I wore my mother’s cathedral veil with a one-shoulder, fitted gown and walked down the aisle to the song that Queen Elizabeth entered to on her wedding day “Praise my soul the King of Heaven.” A fun touch was exiting the church with a bagpiper leading the way! MMD made the most gorgeous bouquet with fragrant gardenias, white roses and fringed tulips. My bridesmaids wore gray dupioni silk dresses and carried bouquets of football mums, yellow roses and yellow craspedia. My husband wore a white gardenia boutonniere, while the groomsmen had a craspedia with a cockscomb collar resembling sea coral and the surprise of a silver crab claw.

We chose to have our reception at the historic Italian Club in Ybor City because it had the classic Tampa feel that we were going for. Guests entered from historic Seventh Avenue and were greeted with refreshing white sangria. Catering by the Family designed a custom menu that reflected historic Tampa with that southern charm we were going for. Place cards were hand-punched scalloped cards affixed on dulce de leche cake pops. Suspended from silver ribbons on a wrought iron gate above the table were wedding pictures of the bride and groom’s families. The custom shaped and painted signage was done by Salty Sisters. There was a sign directing guests to parking, the reception and balcony.  Guests retreated to the balcony area overlooking Seventh Avenue while they puffed on locally hand-rolled cigars.

The stage of the ballroom was set with refinished vintage furniture brought in by MMD Events. The sleek, white finish with a vintage silhouette was the perfect combination of modern and historic. Tables dressed in platinum crinkle taffeta and lemon bengaline linens laid the perfect foundation for the tablescapes created by MMD. There were several different centerpieces, all with their own creative touches. Yellow urns filled with hydrangeas and yellow calla lilies were accented with silver sea fans. Long, mirrored containers for the low and high top banquet tables were modern and elegant but had painted crab claws nestled inside. Low boxes had a pattern of gray and yellow formed by florals and painted oyster shells. The cake by A Piece of Cake was a four-tier cake with varying flavors, such as guava, dulce de leche and passion fruit. I wanted a lot of texture in the cake, so each layer was decorated with a different buttercream effect. Shutterbooth was the big hit of the night and guests wrote us well wishes on custom chalkboard cut-outs. Before guests sent us off with a sparkling farewell, they had one last opportunity for a sweet treat: Peeps with a sign that read, “We want to thank our favorite peeps for sharing our special day.” When guests arrived to their hotel rooms for the night, one last detail was a door hanger: “Shhhh… we’ve been partying at The Crum’s wedding.” Josh and I had the best wedding day and are so thankful to our wonderful vendors and friends who brought our vision to life.

From the Bride… On Tuesday, February 3, 2009, we met for the first time at Alta Restaurant in New York’s West Village. We sat and spoke for hours, and even on our first date, we felt as if we were old friends. Since that day, we have been inseparable. From our travels to the beaches of Nevis, the wine lands of Cape Town and the rainforests of Kauai, to our experiences in and around New York City, we have cherished our time spent together and with family and friends. When discussing where to get married, we wanted a location that reflected our fun-loving spirit as well as our excitement for traveling. We also hoped for some great weather! Key West, the southernmost city in the United States, seemed a worthy destination for a celebration with family and friends.

From Stacy of Set Free PhotographyTara and Tyler celebrated their engagement with a casual beach photo shoot that simply involved a love they share: the love of red wine. The set-up was complete with cheese, a baguette and a beach breeze that added a bit of movement to Tara’s hair, allowing me to truly capture a typical day at the beach for Tara and Tyler. In between bites of cheese and sips of wine, this couple of four years snuggled and whispered to one another like two people that just fell in love last week! They actually had a brief chance encounter back in 2005, when Tara was still in high school and Tyler was in college. They met through Tara’s cousin who, being a good and protective cousin, refused to give away Tara’s phone number, despite Tyler’s persistence. Time went by, and Tyler never forgot Tara. It’s a good thing that fate sometimes gives second chances — they met again three years later when Tyler unknowing walked into Tara’s workplace, and the rest is history.

Sarasota Wedding by Jessica Lorren Organic Photography

We have had a few of Jessica Lorren’s weddings cross our SMP path as of late (like this Miami number!), and each time the photographs completely blow us away. They’re wildly romantic in that dreamy, film camera sort of way and always with a cool Floridian vibe. This beauty takes the cake in the vintage category and the Bride? Beyond adorable. From the Bride… My mom’s family is all from the south, so it was imperative for me to have my southern roots added into the wedding while still incorporating ourselves into the mix. We both wanted a good and memorable meal. The food we picked was purely delicious country food. Randy loves country-fried steak, shrimp and grits and collard greens, and I can’t go very long without having a meal consisting of fried chicken and macaroni and cheese! Along with an amazing cake, we also had pies for our wedding! Everything from melt in your mouth pecan pie to peanut butter cream pie. Our signature drink was a spiked sweet tea, which was heavenly! Our colors were gray, pink and yellow. My lovely bridesmaids wore dresses from J.Crew, paired with pink Jackie cardigans, also from J.Crew. Our bouquets were filled with white and yellow daisies and roses.

My sweet family helped me out so much. My grandmother made doilies, which my mother-in-law and sister-in-law glued onto old mason jars and turned into beautiful lanterns by adding a candle. They also turned old picture frames into fun chalkboards. Since Randy and I both love to read (I received my bachelors in English and British literature, and I am a English teacher), I wanted the wedding to reflect that aspect of our personalities. My mother and I spent months going to consignment shops looking for old vintage books that he and I adore to display at the reception. Etsy also became my new best friend. A few things I loved about our wedding that we felt made it special were the sunglasses wedding favor, the rockin’ American flag corn hole board, the karaoke machine and the vows Randy and I wrote for each other.

For me, the most important decision I had to make concerning the wedding was picking our photographer, but ironically, it was also the easiest. As soon as I saw Jessica Lorren’s work, I was floored. She takes images that look like they are from fairy tales. There is something so dreamy and whimsical about her photography that makes you want so much to be a part of it. Not only is she totally talented and professional, she is such a great person. When I couldn’t decide between two wedding dresses, she took the time to give me the pros of each dress. I mean, who could ask for more? I have to admit, even without all these wonderful details that made our wedding so perfect, all we wanted at the end of the day was a wedding surrounded by our friends and family in which we would get to honor and praise God for all He had given us. We wanted to make a promise to each other for everyone we love and know to witness. I am so thankful to have these people in my life and to have a groom who was involved with every detail and a family who brought my dream wedding to life. Besides the day being the definition of perfect, it was so much fun! I couldn’t have asked for a better wedding or husband!

From the Bride… I knew that I wanted a wedding in downtown St. Petersburg at a location that was unique, yet classy. I’m from South Florida and my husband is from Indiana, so a lot of guests would be traveling in from out of town. We chose to have our bridal suites and guest room blocks at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort, the ceremony at century-old Trinity Lutheran Church, and the reception at the Museum of Fine Arts. Our overall theme for the wedding was vintage, yet we stayed mindful of the contemporary reception location, a two-story glass conservatory within the museum that offers spectacular views of Tampa Bay. I was very involved in the planning and details of our wedding, from finding a 100+ year-old Tampa Tribune mailbox, antiquing for vintage St. Petersburg postcards, mason jars and milk crates, to ordering custom St. Petersburg cufflinks for the groomsmen. My mother passed away a few years ago, so I made sure her presence was felt by wrapping my bouquet with lace from her 1978 wedding dress and hiring a tailor to make a hair accessory for my sister, the maid of honor, with lace from her gown as well.

I am not a huge fan of floral arrangements, so my event design company sourced moss-covered manzanita branches for my centerpieces. The theme followed through with organic-style green and white bouquets and moss accents. Vintage St. Petersburg was our look, from sending custom-designed save-the-date postcards to postcard seating arrangements. Rather than having a traditional guest book, we produced postcards that guests wrote personal messages on and then dropped them into the Tampa Tribune mailbox. The seating arrangements were specified by vintage St. Petersburg postcards rather than table numbers. Hype Group is the company that developed all of our wedding designs, the save-the-date postcards, the multi-piece letterpress wedding invitations, a BP (Brooke & Pete) logo, guest book postcards, welcome letters and thank-you cards. The theme stayed consistent throughout each piece.

With the help of Judy at The Dressing Room, my dress was the focal point of the entire day. I felt like such a princess — it was the perfect dress! We hired our favorite local band, The Daniel B. Marshall Band, to play during the reception. They played everything from classic rock to rap. My husband and I danced to “You & Me” by Dave Matthews Band. We are both business owners, so that song is very meaningful to us in the sense that together we have achieved so much at such a young age. Our photographer, Gina Leigh Photography, captured each intimate moment (there were a lot of happy tears) between family and friends, and most importantly, laughter. Gina shoots with film, which is very special and is definitely seen in the quality of the final outcome. January 14, 2012 was the best day of our lives! Thank you to all who helped to make it happen.
