Casual + Elegant Island Wedding in the Florida Keys

If you’re looking for a classic affair with a relaxing vibe look no further because this beachside soiree is about to be your jam. Blooming with Parrish Designs florals and a barefoot dance party, this island celebration is sure to inspire. From the casually elegant ceremony to the rip roarin’ reception, Kallima Photography snapped it all in THE VAULT!

From the Bride… Tom boy, soccer player/CPA nerd meets tough guy/hockey player, with a soft side through mutual best friend, and the rest is history. T and I live in Chicago, but always wanted a warm-weathered, beach-chic, destination wedding, where the nights are long and hot and flip flops are always welcome. My family has been visiting Islamorada for over 50 years, and it seemed like the perfect spot; laid-back island vibe, with fabulous accommodations and dining, and even better views. We wed at Pierre’s Restaurant, on the beach at 6pm, with the sun still high in the May sky. A solo guitarist played the processional, our life-long friend married us at the edge of the ocean, all the bridesmaids and I sang along as our friend played Bob Marley’s Is This Love on the trombone. It was perfect. The food at Pierre’s was phenomenal (it always is). We danced the night away to Clint Wiley’s None Other, the dance floor was packed from start to finish; a jubilant, sweaty, barefooted dance party that rocked. Kallima Photography captured our night perfectly, every detail, special moment, friends and family. We are forever grateful for all those that made our special night so wonderful!

The weekend was full of love, laughter and fun activities – beach cocktail party at Cheeca Lodge, softball at the Islander, Rehearsal Dinner on the patio at The Islander, team golf on Cheeca’s par 3 course, wedding at Pierre’s, and Sunday Brunch on the Sunset Room and Deck at Cheeca. Guests fished, kayaked, paddle boarded, and sunned; it was the best weekend ever, and we wish we could do it all over again!

From Jacqui Cole PhotographyI am thrilled to share Kelly and Kevin’s stunning fall wedding with you! They are such a beautiful couple inside and out and their wedding day was a joy to capture. There were so many perfect details and traditions that really spoke to Kelly and Kevin as a couple and made the big day very personal.

The couple chose Carlouel Yacht Club as their reception venue. Set alongside the water it is the most romantic backdrop to spend the evening in celebration. Kelly wanted both organic elements incorporated in her decor as well as maintaining an elegant and timeless feel. She accomplished this by having white florals with whimsical greenery and gold highlights throughout the reception details. Her sweet ‘To the moon and back” cake topper was such a perfect focal point of the room. Kelly broke out of the norm and incorporated deep emerald bridesmaid dresses! They looked absolutely stunning against the Florida greenery.

I absolutely love that Kelly was able to embrace two different bridal looks throughout her day. During the ceremony and portraits she wore a lace bolero and removed it for the reception. It was the best of both worlds!

Kevin is part of the US Coast Guard and therefore many military traditions were included throughout the day. One of the most important ones for Kelly and Kevin was the iconic saber arch at the end of the reception. It was so much fun to witness the joy on Kelly’s face after they announced “Welcome to the Navy!!” Congratulations Mr and Mrs Noll!

From the Bride… I knew that I wanted to have a military wedding in the church that I grew up in, and I knew that I wanted Kevin and I to be the only two in white. I envisioned an elegant and classic day, with old Florida touches.

Kevin and I met on Clearwater Beach the summer of our senior year in high school. We immediately connected over our love for the outdoors, and our first date was kayaking through the Weeki Wachi river. It seemed a no-brainer to have our wedding as near to the spot where we first met as possible, while incorporating all the lush greens and white of the sandy beaches that we love so much about Florida.

Our families are a large part of why Kevin and I were able to handle 7 years of long-distance, so we knew that incorporating our families any way we could was important. My family is Irish, and we had a sign at the entry say “Ceade Mil Failte” which in Gaelic means “one hundred thousand welcomes.” We had my mother give an Irish wedding blessing as the opening prayer, and included photos of our parents at their weddings on the mantle overlooking our wedding cake. I wore my grandmother’s bracelet and had photos of both my grandmothers on my bouquet. Also, I knew that as the day was drawing closer, my mom was thinking a lot about her own wedding and how much she missed her dad, who passed away when I was little. So, the morning of the wedding I gave her a locket that had a photo of her father walking her down the aisle inside.

We also wanted to incorporate Coast Guard elements into our wedding. Kevin wore his dress whites, we left the church under a sword arch, and cut our cake with Kevin’s saber. We are so blessed to be surrounded by so many amazing military men and women, that it was very important to us that we took a moment to thank them for their service to our country and to us, and to remember those were not able to attend because of their service.

My father brews his own beer, and growing up each of my siblings had one created specially for us. When Kevin and I discussed what type of favor we wanted to give our guests, we thought that showing our guests something so integral to my childhood and so special to me and my father was the best way to go. Also, who doesn’t love craft beer!?

Our cake topper said “to the Moon and Back.” This stemmed from a saying that Kevin and I would say to each other, when he was stationed on a cutter in North Carolina and I was in law school in Boston. Kevin would be in the middle of the ocean, with the beautiful night sky, and we knew that although we were so far apart, that we loved each other “to the moon and back,” and with a love like that, we could conquer any amount of distance. When Kevin proposed, on a mountain-top, he had my engagement ring engraved to say “Moon and Back” as well.

Although wedding planning is really fun and always on your mind, make sure to take time out from it to have fun with your fiancé! Kevin and I would go out on a date and focus on each other and our day-to-day lives, and not talk about all those items still on the to-do list. We would go hiking and just enjoy each other’s company, and remember why we were getting married in the first place!

From Jennifer Blair Photography… Matt & Alex have had quite the journey to get to their wedding day. After meeting in Chicago they had secret crushes on each other and friends for over a year. Not long after they made things official, Alex was transferred to New York but moved to Denver to be together.

Since Alex’s family lives in Dallas and Matt’s in Denver, they decided to go for an intimate destination wedding with their closest friends and family. The 30a area has a special meaning to them since Alex’s family lived there for a time as she grew up. The design they chose for the whole day was elegantly simplistic.

Alex’s Vera Wang gown was an incredible choice for a beach wedding. Even the delicate lace detailing on the cap sleeves mimics the natural vegetation around the area the the greenery used in the bouquets. The palette of seafoam blues and greens was found everywhere from the Rosemary beach location to Alex’s getting ready robe.

The highlight of the day was the family-style reception under twinkling string lights as the sun set along the sea’s horizon. The stunningly simple cake was highlighted by an oyster-shell chandelier that hung above, which also complimented the oyster table runners on the reception tables. Alex & Matt have the sweetest love and they truly deserved to be celebrated the way they were that gorgeous, September night.

Nautical Navy & Pink Florida Wedding

You guys, KT Merry has done it again. She’s gone and captured a wedding we adore and if preppy stripes and pint sized sailors are your thing, then we invite you to come join the party. First stop? The Vault, where you can find every single moment beautifully designed by the talents at Posh Parties. They absolutely nailed the nautical theme without feeling overly “themed” and to that we say, thank you!

From the couple… Charlie and Lindsey were high school sweethearts in Jupiter, Florida. Through years apart in college and pursuing their goals, they found themselves drawn together repeatedly despite distance and obstacles. After finally managing to be in the same place at the same time, Charlie got down on one knee on the very same beach where they met that lucky night 10 years prior. The wedding took place at Charlie’s family home on Jupiter Island.

Charlie and Lindsey wanted a relaxed and welcoming feel with a nautical touch for the wedding including live music on the dock for cocktail hour, lawn games and dancing under a beautifully decorated tent. The bride & groom’s love of the water, and the groom’s own business building boats, made the nautical theme a natural choice. It was nodded to throughout the day with rope as napkin ties and an oversize compass decal on the dance floor, along with custom navy and white linens in the tent. The groom even built a boat, which held beverages during the cocktail reception.

From the Bride... During the planning stages, there was a specific point that really stands out. About 4 months before the wedding, the bride got a call that the church had accidentally double booked the wedding day. As a solution, Charlie and Lindsey were married at the church on Friday, the day before the originally planned wedding, in a small, intimate ceremony with only their family present. What was initially a potential disaster ended up being the bride and groom’s best decision of the wedding. Being officially “already married” allowed the bride and groom to relax and really enjoy the big event.

My favorite part of the wedding was the cocktail hour food, even though I didn’t get to eat much of it! And my favorite moment was dancing on the dance floor surrounded by all of our friends and family. It was magic, like you could feel and see the happiness glowing around us.

Palm Beach Wedding at The Flagler Museum

In the words of this bride, “We built a sense of family into every detail.”  And in my humble opinion, that’s the best way to go. Reciting vows at the very same church the bride’s parent wed 33 years earlier, this couple intentionally crafted a meaningful day with Lauren Daversa Events by their side. Read on for the details and swing by THE VAULT for more moments captured by Jessica Lorren.

From The Bride…It was late summer 2008, and my husband spotted me at a restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. Flash-forward to 2011 he saw me again, but this time in the halls of our graduate medical school. Little did I know that these spottings would turn into a crush, and much more thanks to a mutual friend who formally introduced us on a blind date a few months later.

After a year and a half of courtship, my now husband surprised me with a rooftop engagement proposal overlooking one of the hospitals associated with our academic health system. This not only symbolized a place that brought the two of us together, but also that we found love through our passion for medicine. As two very traditional and family oriented individuals, without hesitation we chose my hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida, for our wedding where I am a fourth generation resident. We envisioned an elegant and classic wedding with an old Florida flare, and found that the Flagler Museum, which is rich in history and overlooks the West Palm Beach skyline, was the perfect reception venue.

We built a sense of family into every detail. Our wedding was held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where my parents were married thirty-three years ago, and where I worshiped throughout my childhood. I wore the cathedral length veil my mother had worn on her wedding day, and the same talented organist who played at my parent’s wedding also played at ours. The antique diamond brooch, which I placed in my hair, and my earrings were both from my late maternal grandmother –my namesake.

We ensured the reception had special touches to both of us. The hors d’oeuvres and late night snacks were passed on sterling silver trays from my late maternal grandmother and late maternal great grandmother. The signature cocktail was in honor of my father. I remember him sharing the same drink with my mother on the dock behind our home consisting of Mount Gay Rum and a splash of fresh lime juice.

Naturally, the Docktail was a fitting name. In place of a groom’s cake, my husband felt a personalized bourbon bar would best represent his Southern roots. He chose several different bourbons based on his past experiences – most importantly ones that brought back memories of good times that he shared with friends. The décor on the bourbon bar included our medical textbooks, and a mortal and pestle previously used by my husband’s maternal grandfather, who was a pharmacist. After all, bourbon was utilized as a cough syrup in the day! On the dance floor, my husband surprised our guests and me with yellow ruler suspenders in memory of my maternal grandfather, who wore such suspenders as he ran my family’s hardware business.

To close out the evening, we served Krispy Kreme donuts, which originate in Winston Salem, North Carolina, the hometown of my husband’s undergraduate school, Wake Forest University. These treats are also the main ingredient in a well known late night dessert at the University of Virginia, the Grillswith. We both could not have chosen a more bittersweet ending to an unforgettable day!

From The Bride…Jason and I started dating the beginning of 2011. When we first met, I knew from the beginning that I wanted to be with him for forever. While we were dating, I went on a girl’s beach trip to Rosemary Beach. That’s when I discovered Alys Beach, and I absolutely fell in love with Alys when I saw it. I knew right then Alys was where I wanted to get married.

Jason and I have a little girl Brady Rae and we take her everywhere with us, so when he was planning the proposal, he knew I would know something was up if he did something “special” with her. We have season tickets to the Memphis Grizzlies and while I was getting ready I heard Jason tell Brady to take something to me. She came in our room and handed me a box. I told her to open the box because I thought they were my pearl earrings Jason had fixed for me. Brady opened it and my mouth dropped and Brady told me it was hers! It was nothing extravagant, but Brady being a part of it meant everything and he knew that! I was honestly surprised!

We always knew we didn’t want a big wedding. All of our friends had destination weddings and we didn’t want the typical destination type wedding. We wanted it more traditional, but still beachy. Jason’s parents own a couple of condos in Destin and he had never even seen Alys Beach. I booked it without him even seeing it, and he loved it! Meghan Kelly, the Alys Beach wedding coordinator, helped me with everything. I seriously wouldn’t have been able to do anything without her. I didn’t want the stress of having to deal with a lot and she was amazing!

I debated a lot about actually having the wedding on the beach, but when we sat down with our designer/florist, Grove Fisher of Fisher’s Flowers, she had this vision and I loved it. We wanted small intimate and she did just that! I can’t actually describe how beautiful Alys really is…you have to see with your own actual eyes and be there in person. Everything is white, white, white! It’s absolutely stunning! We ended up having the ceremony and reception all in one place at Fonville Press. It was perfect. Our photographer/videographers at Pure7 Studios were fantastic and captured everything perfectly. All of our guests still talk about how perfect and laid back our wedding was. I couldn’t have pictured our wedding anymore perfect than it was.

Bright + Colorful Miami Resort Wedding

A Miami destination wedding was the perfect solution for this couple currently living in New York, but had family traveling over to celebrate from their native Albania. They opted for a classic, clean design with careful pops of color and plenty of Albanian marriage traditions woven in along the way. THE VAULT is your go-to for every moment captured by Merari Photography.

From Merari Photography… Rodi and Eni chose to have their wedding celebration at the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami Beach all the way from Buffalo, NY. Their family is mostly from Albania so Miami was a fun halfway point for everyone. Eni incorporated some traditional Albanian elements into the celebration. Her mom made a beautiful handkerchief used when the bride and groom lead the guests in a traditional dance around the room and her sister, the maid of honor, carried a little plate with candy and coins for good luck.

Eni kept a simple and soft color palette with a pop or red here and there to add contrast. Their outdoor ceremony was almost rained out thanks to the crazy Florida summer weather but as soon as they saw each other during their first look, the skies cleared up and she was able to walk down the aisle and meet Rodi under the sunshine.

Their reception was set up to feel intimate and fun, like a family dinner. The bride and groom’s favorite tapas, beer and wine were placed on each table for everyone to pass around and share. Once the music started, everyone gathered around the dance floor for the traditional money dance, where guests shower the bride and groom with cash to start their new life together. It was a lovely and fun celebration!

Shape Editor’s Florida Engagement Session

When Shape magazine’s Fitness Director, Jaclyn Emerick meet her beau, Scott the small fact that they happened to live on opposite sides of the country didn’t deter their relationship one bit. Fast forward many dates and many miles later, when Scott popped the question on a trip to Costa Rica. They invited Lauren Kinsey to capture their engagement and we’ve got every photo inside THE VAULT.

From The Bride-to-be… Scott and I were living on opposite coasts when we let a mutual friend pique our interest in each other back in November of 2013. Pretty inconvenient, but that didn’t seem to matter because from very early on I think we both always knew this was going to work out.

My job as a magazine editor took me from New York City to Los Angeles at least once a month for photo shoots, events, or races, and on my quick November trip to the west coast we had our first date: hiking and sushi.

After that day, we talked on the phone for six weeks, then decided we’d officially try the very-long-distance relationship thing. Three months and many Delta miles later, Scott moved to New York City. During the next 10 months of our relationship we got new jobs, went hot air ballooning, waterfall canyoneering, trail running, racing, rappelling, and snowboarding, I broke my ankle, we turned vegetarian, did a little traveling, had some serious college football feuds, and did way too much bulldog stalking.

Then, Scott proposed on a beautiful wooden bridge in the middle of the cloud forest at dusk in Costa Rica in March of 2015. We moved in together a few weeks later, and our sweet, strange French bulldog puppy, Chandler Muriel, came home in August.

There was never a question of where we’d get married. My family moved from the Chicago suburbs to Watercolor, Florida, about seven years ago. No place has ever felt more like home than that. Besides it being one of the most beautiful places in the country, you can’t help but be happy and content when you’re there, and we want our family and best friends to experience that when we get married.

And a moment to swoon over Lauren Kinsey: We planned our wedding date around her availability. She manages to capture such special moments so authentically, and we’re so lucky to have her shoot these engagement photos and our wedding day. These are the images we’ll look at for the rest of our lives.

From Lauren Kinsey… Photographing couples can be a challenge—the nuances of their personalities, how they “fit” together, and learning what their love language is an exciting thing to see unfold. When I met Jaclyn & Scott for the first time, they had such a natural presence and calmness to them. Ghandi said that “Love is boundless like the ocean and, swelling within one, spreads itself out and, crossing all boundaries and frontiers, envelops the whole world.” The way Scott holds Jaclyn so gently, the way they move so fluidly together—all makes sense why they have chosen Watercolor as the place they will wed next year.

Casual Safety Harbor Engagement Session

Two cuties, one beautiful locale and a super talented photographer; good things are bound to happen. Jacqui Cole snapped these sweethearts as they explored Safety Harbor Resort and Spa and the too-cute-for-words love that pops off of them is practically palpable. Check out our VAULT for all the good stuff!

From Jacqui Cole Photography… A professional tennis player from Wisconsin and a Dallas sweetheart had a twist of fate two years ago in the bride’s hometown of Irving, TX. Ana and Tim met at a tennis tournament being held in Irving, at The Four Seasons, and immediately connected.

Only three months later, Tim was stopping over in Dallas on his way to Paris for the summer tour. He took full opportunity to touch base with Ana and ask for what ending up being their official first date! As an avid tennis player and protective father, the date was under the condition that Tim played a few games of tennis with Ana’s Dad! How sweet?! After playing tennis (and getting a nod of approval from pops!) Tim took Ana for an evening of pizza, wine and conversation. They swiftly fell into a long-distance romance and, with an ocean separating them, were not able to meet again until the US Open, where Ana took the trip to NYC. And as they say, the rest is history :)

It didn’t take long for Tim to pluck up the courage and ask for Ana’s hand in marriage this past April. Tim surprised her with his proposal, flying into Dallas, surrounded by candles and love notes, in her very own home! The two will wed this month at the very same place they met — the Four Seasons in Irving.

Intimate + Relaxed Longboat Key Wedding

If you’re looking to have a seaside wedding with a more sophisticated beachy vibe, take note, because this couple pulled off the perfect beach wedding getaway. With a neutral palette accented with hints of mint and sage and an intimate guest list of just family and the bridal party, this big day is what every Bride dreams of. See it all from Julie Cate Photography and Katrina Sorrentino in THE VAULT!

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/99855365 600 338]

From The Bride…Kyle and I met at a bar in St. Louis during winter break of my senior year. He bought my friends a round of Lemon Drops so I knew he was a keeper. We both moved to the east coast a few months later. A couple years after moving in together in NYC, I planned a surprise party for Kyle’s birthday. Little did I know that he had a surprise of his own. There had been a winter storm the night before, so we headed to Central Park the next morning to walk through the snow. We stopped at a little hill where we’d had a picnic the first time Kyle visited me in NYC, and he surprised me with the proposal. Later that night, we celebrated with friends at Kyle’s surprise birthday party downtown.

When we started planning for the wedding, we both knew we wanted it to reflect us as a couple: fun-loving and laid-back. We agreed on an intimate, semi-destination wedding in Florida and then a larger reception in St. Louis at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. For years, Kyle and I had been visiting the Longboat Key, Florida condo that my grandparents owned. I grew up going on family vacations to Longboat Key, so it was a place that was not only special to me, but became special to both of us. We opted to do a small wedding at the Resort at Longboat Key Club with our immediate family members and bridal party. Our venue was in the marina, which featured Spanish moss, water views and a beautiful brick courtyard. Our design inspiration came from the natural surroundings—we did not want a “beachy theme,” and instead focused on a palette of neutrals with sage and mint accents. Our bouquets and floral arrangements included blue hydrangeas, orchids and champagne roses.

The entire weekend was relaxed and fun, and the wedding day was no different! The boys spent the morning boating around Sarasota, while the girls ordered breakfast, did hair and makeup and had a dance party. We hired an open-air trolley to shuttle guests from the hotel to the venue. After the intimate ceremony and cocktail hour, we enjoyed a seafood-centric dinner and danced the night away.

We wanted our wedding weekend to just feel like a beach getaway with all of our closest family and friends. Our wedding day was serene, merry and full of love.

Just take on peek at THE VAULT and you’re sure to bubble over from all the beauty.

From Amalie Orrange PhotographyWe (Amalie & Becky) designed this shoot together and we found our inspiration in some beautiful bubble champagne glasses from a vintage store. Perfect green goblets caught our eye and we have touches of gold polka dots (champagne bubbles) everywhere we turn- we thought to ourselves emerald and champagne- quite the perfect match!

Along with our office mates and the talented work of some other go to vendors turned this shoot into something spectacular. We wanted to focus the shoot on emeralds and champagne with details of the champagne bubbles and natural wooden elements and knew Up the Creek Farms would be such an ideal venue. With a mix of crystal chandeliers and tons oak trees it was the perfect setting!

Our dinner table from Crystal & Crates set the scene. It was the perfect wooden element to base our tablescape. The French bistro chairs were a personal collection that tied in so beautifully. Shauna from Arrangements, created lush greenery and white floral draped to the ground brought the natural aspects and tied so well with the venue. We tied in the perfect amount of emerald through Dishie Rentals glasses, napkins and candlesticks and carried the gold throughout the dishes and chargers and through the beautiful paper goods designed by Elena Grace Design. The small touches of fresh eucalyptus on the swing put this shoot over the top and an all time favorite for sure!

The champagne cart was also a personal collection and was a great fit! We wanted this to stand on its own showcasing what every wedding needs- beautiful details and of course some bubbly.

Nothing is complete without a cake and what a cake it was! Jennyfer from The Sugar Suite designed this to flow beautifully with all the elements we were trying to incorporate-champagne bubbles…one can’t go wrong!

The escort card display turned out stunning. Four and a half feet of greenery and white stock florals sat on this antique cart perfectly. We strung escort cards in the shape of circles from Online labels and of course gold foil dots from Elena Grace Design from the arrangement and it was perfect!

The backdrop to the beautiful Sophia settee from Crystal & Crates were gold embroidery rings adjoined with clusters of greenery and floral and again a garland of fresh greenery and white flowers to keep the design consistent. Our beautiful real life newly wed couple Kris and Max looked amazing with the help of Makeover Station and Solutions Bridal!

Moody Secret Garden Wedding Inspiration

Call it the peak foliage, or the crisp cool smells of autumn, but I’m fully embracing this cozy, moody season. Rich hues and edgy color combos are calling my name. The pretty at hand? It fits all that criteria and more. Snug vintage rentals from The Salvage Snob, check. Black taper candles and green and gold accents, check. Delightful treats from Cloud 9 Bakery, check. Loads of greenery and florals from Julia Rohde Designs, check. Gianny Campos made my fall dream a reality with this gallery in THE VAULT.

From Cloud 9 Bakery“I love you as the plant that never blooms, but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers…” -Pablo Neruda

This quote, along with the rest of this poem, has been a long favorite of mine and my husband’s since we met in sophomore english when we were 15. Poetry and art about love mimicking nature and its beauty has always been so romantic and beautiful to me. It’s this constant inspiration that has propelled me in the design style I’ve always been fond of; landing me somewhere in the romantic, natural and ethereal style with a little dash of gold.

When we got married (back in January of 2007), we absolutely knew for sure that we didn’t want a ballroom wedding. It wasn’t us at all, but that’s all there was! We wanted the lushness of South Florida’s botanicals and nature to be the romantic back drop. This was long before pinterest, and all the weddings I saw in magazines just seemed to be blinged out, stiff and tight, and just not who we were as a couple. Despite that, we did what we could to bring our vision to life, and while everyone has always told us that our wedding was one of the most beautiful they had been to, there were still aspects of it that years later, I still wish had been different. I wish I had used my favorite color of green for the bridesmaids instead of listening to my crazy aunt telling me “it would look too much like christmas” with the deep red and cream florals we were using. I wish I chose the lace dress I really wanted but was forced into buying the dupioni silk one that I liked but didn’t LOVE because of eager sales women making me think I had run out of time (in July). So I always knew I would keep the botanical outdoors, and incorporate the greens, the natural white florals of varying varieties, natural materials and accents of gold. So you could say that the initial concept of this shoot was our wedding do-over, if you will.

I had also been inspired by a location I do a lot of work at that’s a highly sought-after wedding venue down here in Miami, Villa Woodbine, Bill Hansen Catering’s headquarters and exclusive venue. After doing my fair share of weddings there this year, it became obvious to me that this would be the perfect setting for what I was envisioning. Between the coral rock walls and steps that looked as though they were carved out by nature, the lawn filled with various shades of abundant greenery, the wrought-iron gates, the pergola patio surrounded by tropical plants, and peaceful wall fountain that seemed to almost be forgotten about other than the vines that were growing over it, it truly was the perfect setting.

Since I’m the baker, I started building a cake design in my head. I love the look of frilly florals, and I’m a real big fan of flower walls so I knew I wanted to do something that emulated that style, but wasn’t as excessive. I’ve never been into flashy things, and I strongly believe a design should evoke a feeling more than being so literal, which isn’t always easy to accomplish. I finally came up with a bottom tier that was filled with white sugar flowers, and kept the top tiers lightly textured buttercream to complement the other natural elements that would be present. I also did a two tier “barely naked” cake which I think looks so organic and natural, along with a dessert spread of mini key lime pies and bundt cakes, meringues, and rum balls.

Who did I choose for this shoot and why? Well, lucky for me, I work with some pretty amazing people here in South Florida. Gianny Campos Photography is still one of the few photographers that still uses film, and her work is just gorgeous. Her and I very much see things from the same page, and the ideas we bring to each other always enhances the other’s. I knew she’d not only be on board but bring ideas to the table that otherwise would not have been thought of. You would never know there was a giant tent set up for summer rain showers at the site where this shoot took place. Her ability to play with different angles to get the shot and dodge background pollution is unmatched.

Julia Rohde Designs’ florals are like poetry to me. Her “garden-picked” style I knew was perfect for this concept, and she had come up with an amazing idea for a hanging piece of vines, peonies and garden roses that I was so excited to see come to fruition. Needless to say, I was blown away the day of the shoot when I arrived on site and saw all the blooms (peonies that were literally the size of our heads!) and arrangements she had put together. Julia also wanted to debut her new line of calligraphy products, which were absolutely gorgeous. We decided on a black paper with gold lettering to give this shoot, while wild and natural, an accessible classic and elegant style as well. Her invitations and ribbon place cards could not have turned out more lovely.

Yvette of The Salvage Snob has quite an array of vintage pieces that I knew would be perfect for this shoot. After perusing through her showroom, our brains starting churning and that’s when Julia pointed out Yvette’s green couch. We all knew immediately it would be the perfect statement piece and green became a more leading star in the color scheme. Yvette was also incredible with her styling for the day of the shoot. Sometimes something in theory just doesn’t quite work out how you imagined it to, but Yvette had a bag full of tricks (and extra pieces!) to achieve a scene that was even more becoming than our initial intention.

Make Up by Hiara was our first thought for make up. She does absolutely incredible work, making the faces she touches look as if they’re simply just glowing. We wanted an au naturale make up look for our model, and she did her hair in almost a wild style, wanting to bring a little edge to balance out the other soft details. Her work was flawless on our model, Marisol, who was our saving grace at the last minute when our other models bailed out 2 days before the shoot! Our beautiful dress was lent to us by BHLDN. A gorgeous ivory lace and tulle dress with a nude underlay, and a floral motif bodice. We could not have been more thrilled with how it looked set against our garden scenes at the Villa.

Fall Harvest Sangria Wedding Inspiration

Settle in sweethearts, because you’re about to experience layers upon layers of handcrafted perfection. Straight from the artistic lens of Ais Portraits, this inspo is the type of beauty that is sure to delight (and I’m not just talking about that ah-mazing sangria recipe)! It’s the type of perfection that demands a dedication to detail, and we’ve got them all waiting for you in THE VAULT!

From Ais PortraitsCypress Grove Estate House is pure Southern perfection wrapped up in a venue and made the perfect place to host a Fall Harvest inspired shoot. We chose a deep wine and berry color palette to remind us of all the beauty Fall has to offer: the change of colors, the harvest, and the hint of chill in the air.

Our bride wore an intricate and unique gown created by Eve of Milady with lace underlay and tulle panels. Her fine headpiece by Fabiola Capo Bridal Millinery adorned her hair with luxurious Swarovski crystals and vintage Venetian glass beads, finished with silk tassels. We chose a romantic and dreamy look for our bride’s hair and makeup to accentuate the softness of the color palette.

The stationary by Tassel and Trim Shop was done in gold script on black invitations, menus, and place cards for guests. Fleur Lumiere made a magical bouquet and table arrangements with a sea of anemone, David Austin garden roses, Jasmine, and more. The farm table provided and styled by RW Events was a focal point for inspiration for the shoot. It’s easy to get swept away by the beauty of the purples and wine colors of the tablescapes. The marble fireplace mantle held a garland filled with garden roses. The gorgeous cake by La Petit Cakes brought a lightness to the heavy colors of the session with cream colored icing and fresh flowers. To bring the whole autumnal theme together, we created a signature drink, Fall Harvest Sangria.

The recipe is:

1 bottle Malbec red wine
12 ounces Apple Juice
8 ounces black grapes
8 ounces red raspberries
4 sliced black plums
100 milliliters brandy
8 ounces blackberries
4 ounces of strawberries
4 ounces of blueberries

Combine all ingredients. Let soak overnight.

To give inspiration to all of the vendors before putting everything together, we came up with a story behind the girl at the fireplace:

James Worthington was not the type to be spontaneous, but when he saw Amelia Summers across the room in a cafe in Budapest, he knew he had to meet her. Sitting in a quiet corner engrossed in her favorite book, Amelia was surprised when someone asked to sit beside her. She was even more surprised to find herself talking to him for hours bonding over their love of French literature, traveling, and espresso. Amelia and James fell into a rhythm of meeting every day for coffee in cafe; over the months, their friendship turned into something more until, on a chilly day in October, James Worthington proposed to Amelia. They planned an intimate affair with their time spent in Budapest in mind coupled with her Southern heritage. She wanted to incorporate sayings from her favorite poets and he wanted to focus on the love between them. With the help of friends and family they gathered fruits and berries to naturally decorate their wedding space. Their love was a perfect union of Southern warmth and European style.

Intimate Garden Wedding in St. Augustine

This wedding has it all.  Lush, peach-hued florals from Jade Violet Wedding Florals, sweet details orchestrated by Coastal Celebrations and an adorable bride and groom who know everything there is to know about throwing an intimate + seriously awesome garden party. (Hint: There’s Mac ‘n’ Cheese.) Head to THE VAULT to soak in every moment captured by Still55 Photography.  It’s a must-see.

From Still55 Photography… When we first met Sara, her smile immediately lit up the room! Sara & Dan have such warm spirits, and are so thoughtful and bright, just like their wedding day. They truly admire their friends and family. The style of the wedding reflected Sara’s love for Florida and the timeless warmth of her soul. With the expertise of Lindsay at Costal Celebrations, Sara drew inspiration from the spring season at hand and the state she loved most. Thoughtful touches of mint and peach adorned the historic venue in the heart of our nation’s oldest city. The Pena-Peck House in St. Augustine Florida was the perfect place for Sara’s intimate garden affair. Gorgeous lush floral arrangements transformed the already historically tranquil courtyard into the ideal outdoor garden wedding.

Following the ceremony, guests were treated to a private trolly tour of St. Augustine. Hand-crafted vintage oak whiskey barrels were placed throughout the garden as high top tables for guest to enjoy while sipping Sara and Dan’s signature cocktails. The tablescapes showcased their love for the Florida coast. Weathered lanterns were surrounded by understated arrangements that allowed guest to enjoy each other’s company from any vantage point of the table. Brimming colors, and carefully considered touches throughout her wedding welcomed guest in a way that will inspire any bride aiming for a colorful affair in the South. We can’t forget to mention the decadent dessert table! With seven cakes to try and fruity Starburst and Jolly Rancher candies, a sweet treat was absolutely irresistible.

From The Bride… From the historical sites and culture to the laid-back atmosphere of the pedestrian-only St. George Street, Dan and I love the warmth and history of St. Augustine. Both born and raised in New York, we were engaged in St. Augustine while on vacation. As soon as we began wedding planning, we knew we wanted to bring our closest family and friends back to the Old City to celebrate our marriage.

As a couple, Dan and I are low key, center-of-attention-avoiders who like to laugh and not take things so seriously. We prefer jeans and flip-flops to dresses and ties. It was important to us that we keep that sense of who we are on our big day.  So our vision was simple – an intimate day that embraced who we are as a couple and incorporated the city surrounding us. All printed materials, from the informal invitations and ceremony program fans to the menu (complete with southern staples like mac & cheese and collard greens) and craft paper placemats, were designed to give the wedding the laid-back, backyard get-together feel we were hoping to achieve.

To incorporate the City, the ceremony and reception took place in the garden of The Pena Peck House, directly on St. George Street. Guests enjoyed a trolley ride in between the ceremony and the reception where they toured the city and learned about the history. The wedding colors – peach, coral and mint – were reflective of the colors found on the old buildings throughout town and the “old Florida” feel we love about St. Augustine. Our favorite memory of the wedding was our sparkler exit onto St. George Street, where guests and random pedestrians gathered to cheer and shout well wishes as we departed on a pedi-cab.

In an effort to make the wedding reflective of our personalities, it was important to us that we vowed to love each other in our own words. We threw out traditions like a large bridal party and opted for a single Matron of Honor, Best Man and our nieces and nephew as flower girls and ring bearer. Instead of a tiered wedding cake with a formal cake cutting, we went with a number of cakes so guests could help themselves and choose their favorite flavor.

My favorite DIY element of our wedding was our seating placemats. Dan and I both work for civil engineering companies; it’s how we first met. To incorporate that important detail of our relationship into the day, Dan designed an engineering site plan “map” of St. Augustine with all of the important wedding locations as well as the tourist places we encouraged our guests to explore. We gave this map to our guests in their hotel welcome bags (tote bags printed with “Dan + Sara, Totes Gettin’ Married”) and also printed them on craft paper to use as seating placemats during the reception. It was a unique way to decorate the tables as well as incorporate the City and our relationship into the wedding.

My advice to brides-to-be is to never lose sight of who you and your fiancé are as a couple; don’t get caught up in all of the wedding traditions you think you should have. Not all couples (or brides) love to be the center of attention. Look at the reasons why you love each other and what you both feel comfortable with. Then incorporate those unique details into your planning. There are endless ways to make the day reflective of your own personalities.

Elegant Tuscan Inspired Backyard Wedding in Florida

Honestly, where do I begin!? How about the fact that this pair wed in the Groom’s grandparents backyard, or that every single vendor was a dear friend. It’s details like these that land this celebration in THE VAULT. Because when it comes to a union of souls woven together with talented and trusted vendors, you better bet it’s a gallery we’ve gone gaga over. See it all captured by Jennifer Blairhere!

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/_aVhrO9U5r4 600 338]

From Jennifer BlairKaylie is a dear friend and I cannot express how much of an honor it was to create these beautiful memories from her day. I don’t know of any other wedding that has been more true to a couple. This wedding epitomized this couple so well. Everything about their intimate affair was a representation of their personalities and relationship. Kaylie & Cory chose each detail with purpose. Kaylie’s love for white and European-inspired details were woven throughout the theme. Even though the rain called for a change of plans, nothing kept the day from being a dream. Kaylie had originally wanted to elope, but Cory knew that this version of their wedding would be best. I dare say he was right. They put so much of themselves into every detail of this intimate affair. Everything had meaning, from having their nuptials on family land to making sure each vendor was a friend.

From The Bride…This day. These vendors. Let me start at the beginning and tell you that I wanted to elope. My now husband wanted us to have a wedding. What we had was the most beautiful and intimate combination of both. It surpassed anything that I had hoped for. To stick with our intimate appeal, we got married in Cory’s grandparent’s back yard. They have an open field that was perfect for our aesthetic. We are both drawn to things small, not showy, authentic, elegant and family-like. That is how we picked our vendors and details.

First came our wedding photographer, Jennifer Blair, a dear friend of mine that I met in college. From the beginning, there was no other that would do our photos. Our wedding videographer was Andrew Lanier Arts, our brother-in-law. Our stationer, stylist and florist was one of our favorite people and dear friends, Victoria Austin Designs. The man that not only gave me away but preached our wedding was my Dad. This alone was enough. Lastly, my makeup was done by the phenomenal Morgan King Makeup. Morgan and I have worked together in the past on shoots, so when it came to my wedding day, I knew she would be the one.

Our wedding vendors made our wedding. Seriously. They were our friends. They were people we trusted, knew and cherished. Having them as apart of our day and there for the moments that made us one are very special to us. The rest of the day was fate. Florals, Italian food, white tablescapes, flowing dresses, laughter and all of our family under one tent in the middle of an open field. For us, this was everything a wedding should be.

Seaside Sunrise Boho Elopement

With the sun and sea in mind, this darling duo decided to take to the shore for the sunrise seaside elopement of their dreams… Until their parents found out! Soon their party of two became six, but the experts at Elleson Events had it all set, creating a casually elegant boho brunch that elopement dreams are made of, and we’ve got all the Hunter Ryan Photo-captured pretty right here in The Vault!

From Hunter Ryan PhotoLindsay, a designer from New York City and her fiance Tomasz decided a sweet elopement on the shores of Captiva Island would be the perfect fuss-free way to celebrate their union as husband and wife. Until…their parents found out! So their 2 person elopement turned into a small celebration of 6 as both of their parents joined in on their sunrise nuptials. It ended up being even better with them there than they’d even imagined though!

Lindsay and Tomasz absolutely love the early morning sunrises on Captiva Island – and fell in love with the idea of marrying at dawn. With the help of Stylist, Hollie of Elleson events – Lindsay’s design dreams for a pretty boho seasisde wedding became reality. Lindsay knew she wanted very little color – just a simple white and earthy vibe mixed with greens -nothing to take away from the natural beauty of the Island. They read one another sweet heartfelt hand-written vows and threw seashells into the ocean as they blessed their seaside union as one.

After the ceremony- the 6 had a private beach breakfast reception, which was the epitome of casual elegance. Muted marble placemats, hand-drawn placecards and driftwood set the tone for the meal. No celebration is complete without champagne and cake though – so the couple opted for a mimosa bar and waffle stack cake. :)

Romantic Blush Boca Raton Wedding

Bejeweled heels, mantilla veils, classy invites and settings like this? It’s no wonder this sweet fete at The Addison has me stuck in The Vault gallery for days. And beyond the beautiful bits, live the moments like this that have me wrapped up in all the love, thanks to the handiwork of Graham Terhune. See more right this way.

From The Groom…We met doing an ER rotation in Jacksonville, FL. We met on the first day when Meg’s key card didn’t work and she had to stay after orientation to get it fixed. Perfect opportunity…I got my perfectly functional key card fixed too. After that we checked the schedule and made a point to run into each other whenever possible. After two weeks I asked Meg to dinner and we have been inseparable since.

From The Bride…I am a small town Southern girl from North Carolina and Anthony is from a big sweet Cuban family in Miami. After searching we found a beautiful restored house in Boca Raton with an elegant covered courtyard. The Banyon trees made a romantic outside space and put us over the top. I wanted to include soft southern details so I chose a color palette with blush, gold and ivory (let’s be honest I’ve had these wedding colors picked out for quite a while). Our sweet pastor from NC and my amazing photographer friends flew in as well. My selfless southern mother made her renown blueberry jam for all the wedding guests. The day was fun, romantic, full of dancing and filled with Southern charm. God gave us this day and it was more perfect than Anthony and I could have ever imagined. It was the best day of our lives so far and couldn’t have been possible without all these wonderful people.
