A Hindu Wedding in the English Countryside

For any couples planning a multicultural wedding, take notes from Matthew and Preena who paid homage to both their Indian and English heritages in one cohesive celebration. They began the day with a Western-style ceremony followed by a traditional Hindu “Mandap” all set in the charming English countryside. A feast of Indian food was served for their ballroom reception and Taylor & Porter didn’t miss a single moment. Click here for much more!

From Taylor and PorterMatthew and Preena married this summer at Wrest Park, a Grade I listed Mansion in England mixing elegant French architecture with a grand and picturesque landscape. This unique early 19th century house was the perfect setting for this couple’s classically elegant style. Matthew and Preena shared not one but two ceremonies; both a Western marriage ceremony and a traditional Hindu “Mandap”. The Mandap was one of the most colourful, lighthearted and inclusive ceremonies I’ve ever had the privilege to capture. It involves both family’s participation and has many different traditional elements including offerings to the gods, promises made between the parents to care for each others child and even a part where the women of the family offer secret marriage advice to the bride! It was a beautiful meeting of families, traditions and cultures.

The grounds of Wrest Park are adorned with stunning lawns, wooded walks and flower gardens, dotted with fountains, statues and ornate follies. We explored the park and house capturing portraits with Matthew and Preena as the warm August sun set. Their reception was held in the grounds; in the beautiful light filled Orangery where after a feast of traditional Indian food they danced the night away under the stars.

From the Bride, Preena… We decided to get married at Wrest Park after we visited the site a year before the day in torrential downpour and knew in an instant we would book, it was the first and last place we looked at and a big tick off the list, also as it was half way between both our family homes and a easy train ride from London for our friends.

We decided to fuse both my Hindu Gujarati heritage with the Groom’s English background and began the day with a civil ceremony where we wrote our own (tear-jerking!) vows to one another. I walked down the aisle to ‘Here, There and Everywhere’ by the Beatles played by our talented brother in law David.

This was followed by Indian street food canapés on the library terrace and then a traditional Hindu ceremony, with a sitar player. Finally we had a drinks reception with a jazz band followed by a 3 course Indian feast and cocktail bar. The cake was made by my Aunt and our first dance was to Sweet Pea by Amos Lee. The day was fantastically co-ordinated by the brilliant best men which certainly helped it run smoothly.

The pastel colour scheme leant to fusion of Regal Indian and classic English and ran through to the stationery, flowers, button holes (the guests has lavender and rosemary) and favours (potted succulents).

When we started planning our wedding we knew the things that were important to us – one of them being a Photographer with a great eye and a natural approach. From the initial enquiry email to our meeting on our engagement session and also the day itself, Louise and Teo were warm, friendly, fantastic company, professional and helped put us both at ease. On the day and prior they worked continuously and many guests commented on their dedicated approach. We have so many beautiful photographs from our day and are truly grateful to Taylor & Porter for their hard work and talent in producing the images. We would not miss a beat to recommend them to anyone for any occasion.

We Would Travel Clear Across the Globe to Attend This Wedding!

Just like the guests at this celebration, we too would’ve traveled clear across the globe to attend. Because when you’ve got Kim Balasubramaniam at the helm planning a champagne-fueled celebration in the Cotswolds countryside, well we’d say that’s more than worth it. Complete with a stunning garden ceremony it was a day filled with love, fun, and happiness a.k.a the perfect evening in England for them to take back home to Shanghai. Glamorous

From Zosia Zacharia PhotographyDaisy and Haibin’s wedding was a real international affair, with the bride, groom and all their guests traveling from all sides of the world to the picturesque setting of the Cotswolds. The wedding day started at Lucknam Park hotel and spa – a beautiful Palladian mansion with a sweeping driveway and over 500 acres of parkland. This picture perfect couple wore an Oscar de la Renta gown and a Tom Ford suit; a real touch of glamour in the countryside!

Daisy and Haibin were whisked away in a vintage Rolls Royce adorned with a garland of flowers to the setting for their wedding reception; Valentina’s Lost Orangery. Guests were invited to the celebrations with a stunning invitation by Cutture which featured a 3-D silhouette of the Orangery and couple (there is a photograph of the couple above the water on what looks like a bridge – which is exactly the same as their invitation). A colour palette of palest blush, peach and sage green with a pop of coral and ran throughout every element of the wedding from the stationery to Daisy’s beautiful bouquet.

The Lost Orangery is a completely hidden gem in the Cotswolds countryside – the Orangery and the stunning gardens provided the perfect backdrop for a day’s celebrations; as soon as we saw the venue we knew it would be ideal – it had us as soon as we saw the outdoor chandelier!

During the cocktail hour, which took place by the water, guests who had flown in from around the world, feasted on canapes and champagne to the sounds of an acoustic double bass and guitar duo. Fragrant flowers filled the venue, even decorating a little rowing boat on the lake; Georgia from Westwood Design used English roses, orchids and dahlias in tones of blush, peach and coral which echoed the blooms in the gardens themselves.

The intimate nature of this wedding allowed all the guests to be seated for dinner on one long table in The Orangery. Urns of fragrant flowers and fruit ran along the length of the table and candles placed in antique brass candlesticks completed the look. A personalized menu sat at each place setting and the guests enjoyed a delicious five course wedding breakfast.

The couple were keen for the evening to be a fun affair, so Daisy changed into a gorgeous red Oscar de la Renta mini dress, and popped on some Dolce and Gabbana heels. A close-up magician delighted the guests and we had a jazz band playing in the background.

The party continued long into the night, with some guests even taking to the microphones themselves! A celebration filled with love, fun and happiness and the perfect memory of England to take with them as they start their new life together in Shanghai.

Elegant At Home English Summer Wedding

At home weddings warm my heart and when your home happens to be as spacious and stunning as this English manor, well then, how can you NOT say “I do” here!? Weddings by Nicola and Glen captured it all – from the Bride’s chic style to the adorable little ones and these never-ending florals. See it all in our Vault right this way!

From Weddings by Nicola and Glen… Suzanne and Graham’s wedding day was a luxurious, super fun affair at our couple’s home in West Sussex. Family friend and wedding planner Hannah Nottage made sure everything was planned to perfection for Suzanne and Graham and used her little black book to get the best creative team enlisted for their wedding.

Our Bride spent the wedding morning at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Suzanne looked sensational in a British designed Suzanne Neville dress and the most stunning Louboutins. Her bridesmaids wore floaty floor-length gowns in soft pink.

The ceremony took place in a romantic old English church in a nearby village. Talented London florist Charlie Mac Design adorned the doors and aisles with fresh flowers and foliage. The designs were loose and unstructured, subtly incorporating fruits and berries, to suit the countryside setting.

Music was a definite highlight throughout the day! Famous soprano Laura Wright (who sang for the Queen of England’ 90th birthday recently) performed classical pieces while guests arrived at the Church and during the ceremony.

After the ceremony everyone returned to Suzanne and Graham’s home for the drinks reception. Guests enjoyed oysters being freshly shucked, Nyetimber English sparkling wine and a further performance by Laura Wright as they floated between the beautiful interiors and terrace.

For the dinner everyone moved to the marquee overlooking the lake. The marquee looked gorgeous thanks to Charlie Mac Design. Oversized and wild floral displays floating on geometric gold structures created instant impact! A giant floral garland on the top table created an impressive focal point for the bridal party. Rhubarb catering served a delicious three course dinner including lamb two ways and espresso martinis to get everyone ready to dance after dessert!

The evening party was the highlight of an already incredible day! Graham had two Best Men for the day, one of which happened to be Patrick Olive, the bassist for legendary soul band Hot Chocolate! Not only did he serenade the couple with a song he wrote himself for their First Dance, but right afterwards the entire band walked onto the stage as a surprise to play a full set for the party!

From Natalie Bray StudiosWhile in London, we met up with one of our favorite couples (previously featured on SMP’s Front Page!) and took a few photos for their anniversary at one of their favorite places in London, Luxembourg Gardens.

They are the sweetest couple ever and are SO in love. Him with his British accent and her with her genuine smile that would make anyone want to be her friend.

Bo Boutique created a stunning bouquet full of fall foliage that made us want to cuddle with blankets, throw leaves in the air, and skip happily in love.

Cultural Wedding in the English Countryside

Monica & Andrew’s English countryside wedding is what daydreams are made of. With the truly talented Faye Cornhill behind the lens snapping up every second of beauty, we’ve got every bit of their celebration waiting for your to fall head over heels in love with via The Vault!

From Faye CornhillI’m so happy to share this beautiful wedding with you, it really will go down as one of my all time favourites. It was at the wonderful Notley Abbey in Buckinghamshire. Notley Abbey weddings are always sublime. I love the seclusion, the space and the opulence of this beautiful venue.

Monica and Andrew are genuinely two of the loveliest people you could ever wish to meet. Breaking with tradition they arrived on the morning of the wedding together. Hand in hand they walked up the cobbled stones to the huge Notley Abbey oak door, exchanged a simple kiss and agreed to meet at the alter. Super cute.

Super cute.

Monica was the picture of calm throughout her preparation. She effortlessly styled her own hair and make up, smiling the whole way. As she unpacked her lace Monsoon dress and her stunning pink sari (bought by her father in India) I knew I was going to be in for a visual feast.

Monica’s huge smile lit up the room as she walked to meet Andrew. Together they stood, clinging on to each other, as they exchanged their vows. There was such an overwhelming sense of happiness as the registrar announced them as husband and wife. Andrew wasted no time in kissing his beautiful bride.

After the ceremony, Monica and Andrew were greeted by guests with a shower of confetti. We then moved to the lawn for a champagne reception. The three of us managed to grab some time away to take some portraits on the amazing driveway at Notley. I can’t tell you how much I loved this part – working with such lovely people makes me so happy.

After this, Monica was changed into her stunning pink sari by her Mother and Auntie and we moved straight into the speeches. After a delicious banquet I managed to grab some more time for photos of Monica and Andrew. The light at Notley was just perfect for the sparkle of her sari.

From the Bride… Andy and I got engaged in September 2015 and we knew pretty much straight away that we wanted a summer wedding the following year. Come January 2016, we hadn’t made even made a start!

I had always envisaged a country chic sort of wedding, but Andy preferred the more formal surroundings of central London, so when it came to choosing a venue, we were at opposite ends of the spectrum. Then, a couple of weeks into the search, Andy stumbled across Notley Abbey, a beautiful country house set in idyllic grounds and full of history. We both looked at each other and thought ‘wow’, but knew there was next to no chance of securing a date this year, let alone in the summer. Needless to say, we were astounded to hear that there was a solitary Saturday available for July this year, and we jumped at the chance to view the venue the following day.

We drove up the beautiful tree lined drive; everything was covered in snow and looked so picturesque. We knew there and then that we wanted this to be our venue, even though it was the first (and only) venue we had visited. We deliberated for all of sixty seconds, and proceeded to hand over a deposit immediately.

From that point onwards, the planning went relatively smoothly. I knew I wanted some personal touches that reflected us as a couple, so (with the help of my mum and sister) handmade all of the invitations, place cards and wedding favours. I even did my own hair and makeup on the day. The day itself couldn’t have gone smoother; the weather was exceptionally beautiful throughout the day (particularly given the temperamental summers we have in England), the ceremony was emotional, and even the fact that our little flower girl ran off down the aisle only added to a glorious day. And, best of all, Faye (our brilliant photographer) was there to capture all of those wonderful memories, which we will treasure forever.

Both Andy and I had said from the start that we wanted our wedding day to be fun and relaxed, with everyone we know and love with us to share our special day. It is a cliche, but that’s exactly how it was. We will forever look back on this day as the happiest of our lives.

Whimsical

From the Bride… We first met a mutual friend’s wedding and the rest as they say is history. Teo proposed on the weekend of my 30th birthday celebrations on a clifftop here in Cornwall as the sun set and the waves crashed below us. For our wedding we chose Nancarrow Organic Farm as we knew it well from working there as wedding photographers ourselves. Te food was an incredibly important part of the day for us and the fact that we could incorporate the organic farm produce was wonderful. We chose to write our own humanist ceremony and have it take place between two old oak trees. We knew we wanted the whole day to feel as natural as possible and felt it was a poignant place to make our vows above the intertwined roots of the two oaks, reflecting our ideas of marriage as a supportive union that allows for growth through life together. We wanted the whole day to feel inclusive for all our family and friends of different ages so we sat everyone at long tables and had sharing platters of organic food. We booked our Ceilidh (traditional Celtic barn dance) band with this idea of inclusivity and fun in mind too.

My wedding gown is an antique from Jane Bourvis who has a boutique near Portobello Market in London. It was made of three layers, the bottom layer a champagne gold 1930’s silk slip, the next layer was silk chiffon and the top layer was lace, made by Jane from antique edwardian veils. It was so soft and comfortable. I paired it with an antique veil from the same boutique.

A DIY element included was that we made our own wedding bands at a Jewellers in St Ives. We are Polish, so we incorporated the Polish tradition of being greeted at the reception with blessings, bread, salt and sweet vodka by the women of the family.
My favorite detail of the day was the hand fasting piece of linen my Mum embroidered for the ceremony.

I have too many favorite moments mention, but a big one is waiting with my Dad at the top of the field, hearing my friend Caroline’s beautiful voice singing Eva Cassidy’s “Time After Time” for us whilst our friend Ben played the guitar.. watching my bridesmaids walking down to the ceremony in front of me then walking towards Teo and seeing him for the first time that day. I have never felt so nervous and so happy all at the same time. Another was seeing so many joyful faces during the ceilidh. Even Teo’s 94 year old Grandmother was up dancing. She says it was the best wedding she’s ever been to and she’s been to a few!

Some advice for those planning: Don’t be afraid to break the mould. Your ceremony can be whatever you want it to be if you wish. We chose to do the legal part the day before to allow us to marry entirely outdoors (as this isn’t currently legal in England). If you want an outdoors ceremony somewhere not so reliable for the weather then be brave and go for it (also have a plan B of course) as the chances are it will be fine. In general, if you want to do things a little differently then do. We had ourwedding cake in the afternoon during the cocktail hour as we’d been at so many weddings where the cake was wasted as no-one wanted it at the end of the night after a big meal when the cake cutting normally happens. Do what feels right for you and your relationship. Know that there aren’t too many actual rules when it comes to a wedding!

The English Countryside: Where Romance Is Everywhere

The English countryside is my version of paradise and when you add in a wedding, it becomes too good to be true. But go ahead and pinch yourself because this gem right here is all real. Captured by Faye Cornhill, we have an elegant English celebration that’s worthy of some serious pinning to those Pinterest boards of yours. Get started in our Vault right this way

From Faye CornhillNotley Abbey Weddings are up there with my favourites and I am lucky enough to have worked there on many occasions. The Abbey is beautiful and elegant in an effortless way. The old stone building is so pretty and offers the perfect backdrop to an English country wedding. The venue has such incredible history having once been home to Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. They were known for throwing lavish Hollywood style parties and inviting exclusive guests such as Marilyn Monroe.

The colour palette for this wedding is definitely a firm favourite of mine. The flowers were a variety of pastel and blush tones and were elegantly presented in a range of crystal ware. Gemma personally collected each piece in the run up to the wedding. She worked with the fabulous Rebecca of Gingerlily Flowers to create magic.

Gemma wore an exquisite low back lace gown made by St Patrick by Pronovias. She teamed it with Benjamin Adams bridal shoes. Gemma’s sister and maid of honour wore a blush gown by The Ivory Room in Wooburn Sands. Gemma’s hair and make up artist was the amazing Gemma Sutton.

After a beautiful ceremony, Gemma, Jon and their guests made their way out to the Notley courtyard for a champagne reception. It was a stunning spring day and the air was filled with the sound of laughter, champagne corks popping and birds singing. Gemma, Jon and I headed to the infamous Notley driveway for some photos – what a beautiful couple! After this we all headed for the barn where a superb Wedding Breakfast was served.

Brilliant… just brilliant. See so much more captured by the amazing Marianne Taylor in THE VAULT.

From Marianne Taylor Photography… It seemed like I had been waiting for Victoria and Charles’ wedding day for ages, and yet it felt like it was only yesterday when we got together for their engagement session in Somerset. Taking on such a limited number of weddings means I’m looking forward to each one with even more enthusiasm, and I couldn’t have been more excited when Victoria and Charles’ big day finally rolled around!

It was such a pleasure to be a part of this joyful and beautiful day, and also to get to work with the amazing Gorgeous Film again. Below, Victoria tells more about planning the day.

From the Bride… Two of our friends set us up on a night out soon after Charles had come back from Afghanistan and I had moved back from living in New York. Charlie proposed in Pont Lobos Nature reserve driving down from San Francisco to LA in front of a raft of sea otters! We were engaged for just over a year. So nice to plan things carefully and enjoy every different stage.

St Mary Abbott is our local church in London and a church my family has been going to for over 25 years. Incidentally, Charlie’s Grandmother was Christened there. It was a two minute walk from my parents’, so we could get ready at my childhood home before walking over. The Orangery is in Kensington Gardens and just a short walk from the Church. Kensington Gardens means a lot to us as we walk our dog Albert there every day and Charlie spent a lot of time on his horse Copenhagen, in the area, while he was in the Household Cavalry, Blues and Royals. The Orangery was so perfect for us, we love the country and it felt like a secret garden right in the centre of London.

My mother and I had a lot of fun looking for my dress. A lot of laughs. We fell in love with the Monique Lhuillier dress in Browns Brides and did not look any further! We asked them to add the off the shoulder sleeves for the service that could be removed later. I love the mermaid quality and intricate embellishment layered with different colours. I felt like a million dollars and never wanted to take it off.

Charlie had a clear image for his morning suit. A combination of Prince Charles and Timothy Dalton’s in ‘License to Kill’. He was very happy with the light grey he choice which looked traditional but different.

We went to Versailles the year before and loved all the avenues of trees. We wanted to try to get this feeling with the two long tables with small green trees going down the middle. The bouquet was inspired by an old 18th Century Dutch still life oil painting with wild tendrils coming out and a mixture of colours. Our amazing florist was such fun to work with listened to our ideas and made them even better. Charlie’s button hole was a piano rose – it smelt amazing. We want to grow our own bush to remind us of it. I think the bouquets nod to the past and our love of art was a really nice touch.

My Father, Christopher Garwood, walked me down the aisle. A truly emotional a special moment for us. I felt very proud to be on his arm and gave him one last kiss on the cheek before walking down the aisle and saw all our loved ones faces. It was so nice to walk over to the church with him and have a few quite moments.

The ceremony was a very traditional one in St Mary Abbots – which is a beautiful neo – Gothic Church. Charlie picked the hymns. They are popular with the army as they are emotive and you can belt them out at the top of your voice! I picked the readings. I trained as an actress so loved finding my favourite Shakespeare (a personal passion) and Steinbeck letter to his son about love. Our favourite moments of the service was singing and looking over to see each other grinning. The other was walking down the aisle as man and wife and being over whelmed at everyone being there to support us and witness such a special thing. After the service we nipped round the side to have a quiet moment with each other while the guests poured out. A very private and nice moment for us both.

We were desperate for Marianne to do our photography. We keep a lot of photos and treasure our photo albums and prints around our home. So we looked really carefully for someone we loved. Marianne’s understanding of light and capturing the special moments was exactly what we wanted. She was so easy to work with. We also had our engagement photos with her the Autumn before. She likes to capture you at your most happy and natural and she and her assistant were a pleasure to have on such special day.

Charlie organized his old regiment, the House Hold Cavalry’s carriage to pick us up from the Church and take us to the venue. The horses were so smart and lovely to have a few minutes together before the party. We had a wonderful Photo Booth with a bespoke Reynolds oil painting back drop. This was one of the first ideas we had. We love art and wanted to include something to show this. The Photo Booth Guys were amazing and the camera was so flattering. We love our guest book with the photos and the guests had such a good time and something to take home. Victoria also illustrated all the guest table badges to look like ‘Royal Ascot Enclosure’ badges and each person got a small cut out caricature of themselves instead of a name place. It was a really fun talking point and the guests took them home. We got sent lots of photos the next day of them at people homes. We are so glad they went down so well as it was something Victoria loved doing. We had a DJ in the evening getting everyone on the dance floor while garden and dirty martinis were being served outside as it got dark.

We would pass on something people told us: Walk slowly down the aisle together after the service – enjoy everyone smiling at you and being there for you. Also to take a few minutes together every now and again. Enjoy – it was the best day of our lives!!

English Charm Meets Brazilian Flair For a Cross-Cultural Wedding

This wedding breaks every “rule” in the book, and you know what? That’s exactly why we love it. Although their wedding was set in the English countryside, incorporating Brazilian tradition was important so the couple worked with Something Blue Weddings to create “a day which had lots of English elements but the party atmosphere of Brazil.” Read on to hear how they pulled it off and more from Julie Michaelsen in The Vault!

From Something Blue WeddingWhen I first drove into the grounds to meet with Eduardo and Clareana for the first time I knew this wedding was going to be special. This hidden gem of a country home oozed English charm and was surrounded by the most spectacular manicured grounds I’ve seen at a private home. The house belongs to Eduardo’s grandfather and holds many special memories for them as a family, so to them was the perfect place to hold their celebration.

The houses’ grounds provided unrestricted views across the South Downs and their own herd of deer and sheep, it was breathtaking and the perfect setting for an outdoor ceremony. All the guests were sat bellow a flower draped stone walled pond with the blessing ceremony taking place at the top of the steps by their pastor. From here the guests were greeted on the formal lawns with a champagne reception and stunning canapés.

When it came to the marquee they didn’t want ordinary and they didn’t want drapes, I knew the perfect match would be PapaKata and as soon as I showed them their Sperrys it was decided. Clareana wanted all the tables to connect to symbolize all the families coming together which not only looked stunning but also was a beautiful sentimental element in the wedding. We kept the English theme by using traditional English flowers in the central garlands. Roses, hydrangea and peonies filled the wooden tables and spilled down the ends as if they were growing, to soften the light we also used 350 pillar candles on brass stands to highlight the flowers and gold bead charger plates.

To tie in with the Brazilian heritage of the guests some traditions were also adhered to. The first was the stunning way Eduardo and Clareana displayed their favurs to their guests, a mass of confectionary and cake flown over from Brazil adorned a table for guests to sample throughout the day.

As with all Brazilian weddings dancing plays a huge part and entertainment was certainly high on Eduardo’s list for the wedding, the Philosophy Band had the dance floor full from the start and they didn’t stop dancing until 1am when it was time to end.

From Julie Michaelsen PhotographyThis couple were an absolute joy to photograph, their natural and passionate love for one another was so beautiful and is so clear in their photographs. Their 8-month-old son was the star of the show, charming all with his gorgeous smile, so clearly the apple of the family’s eyes as the first grandson. The typical Brazilian charm, love and affection between family members at this wedding was visible through numerous cheek-kisses, tears of joy and of course enthusiastic dancing late into the night!

Not One, But Two, Soft + Totally Stunning Coastal Wedding Inspirations

I dream of escaping to the English coast, tucking into a seaside cabin and soaking up all the magic it has to offer. But until that dream becomes a reality, I’ll be making myself quite comfortable in this Vault gallery from Lucy Davenport. Created by Katrina Otter Weddings and Coco Wedding Venues, these scenes (yes, more than one!) are soft and subtly stunning; exactly like those coastal village wishes in my head. Roost Film Co captured the action live – see it and more right this way!

From Coco Wedding Venues and Katrina Otter Weddings… We’re very much drawn to the rugged coastlines that we’re so fortunate to have in the UK. Whether it’s the tall swaying grass of the dunes in Sussex, the dramatic cliffs of Dorset or the stretches of sand in Northumberland – we love them all. So when we discovered Clovelly Village in Devon with it’s own pebble beach and stunning quay vista we knew this would be the perfect place for a sea-inspired shoot. This enchanting village has a timeless quality with its cliffs, gardens, pretty Manor House and cobbled streets.

With the venue chosen it was time to send the invitations to our guests. We had a custom stationery suite created by Calligraphy for Weddings with soft washed script on acetate and a beautifully blue envelope with vintage stamp.

Blue was an obvious choice for the coastal theme and to complement, we opted for a palette of lilac grey and rose quartz.

To highlight how couples can interpret a palette we decided to create two tablescapes – one muted and one bold – this light and dark thread followed us throughout the shoot.

The blossom orchard provided a soft and romantic setting for our first alfresco scene. Delicate blush chargers from Duchess and Butler and antique silver cutlery from Helene Millot were framed by a simple silk tulle runner from Kate Cullen. Atop the runner sat an array of succulents, grasses, seashells and white pillar candles.

Our florist, Garden and Wild, created the main centerpiece around a large Tillandsia Xerographica air plant; a mix of succulents, smaller air plants, varieties of asparagus ferns as foliage and white ranunculus flowers and hellebores. Our cool blue coastal tones came through in the star shaped cluster flowers called amsonia. To complete the look, we had green sea glass place names for our bride and groom.

To stop everything from looking and feeling too ‘pretty’ our furnishings from Virgina’s Vintage Hire added a contrasting rawness. Stripped wooden chairs with unexpected pops of traditional seaside colours were a unique choice.

To reflect this first muted palette our bride wore a delicate peachy-pink beaded halter neck top and full tulle skirt from Flossy and Willow. A bespoke veil in the softest pink, made by Britten, worked perfectly with a plaited halo and soft loose tendrils. The divine bouquet, one of three created by Claire and Tami, completed the look. Dicentra Alba (White Bleeding Hearts), Blush Foxgloves, Panicum grass, hellebores, grevillia foliage, eucalyptus nicholli foliage and foraged grasses were used to create this pageant bouquet.

Our second tablescape shows that bold is most definitely beautiful – the deep Parisian blue hemstitch tablecloth and Cassis Rose napkins by The Linen Works and the elaborate driftwood candelabra centerpiece by Nordic House were on loan from the lovely folks at Prezola. To continue the drama, we added in golden cutlery, pearl chargers, oyster shell candles from The Oyster Candle Co. and chunky wooden benches.

To anchor both tablescapes Kate Burt Cakes created this inspired grey marble-washed 3-tier cake with accompanying taster cakes brushed with gold. Delicately placed on billowing silk chiffon we added a simple urn of fresh greenery to frame. The golden seaweed, pink pearls and sugar urchin details were divine and would be sure to wow your guests.

Our second bridal look was an incredible Anna Campbell gown from Perfect Day Bride. The gorgeous pearls and beading reflected the cobbles of Clovelly’s winding streets whilst the scalloped design added a Mermaid-esque vibe. Once again we added a coloured veil and this time Britten chose blue to work against the ivory dress. This blue was mirrored in the silk ribbons adorning the bride’s incredible bouquet.

A large Allium was once again the focus and Claire threaded other flowers and foliage throughout, such as bear grass, coral fern, tillandsia xerographica, white ranunculus and eucalyptus.

Texture was key for this look and the sea breeze added a mesmerizing movement to the fabrics and florals.

For the final look we wanted to channel something slinky and a little bit sexy; this metallic hued silk bridesmaid gown by Jenny Yoo at Coco and Kate stole the show. The cold-shoulder trend ticked the fashion box whilst the silvery fabric made our model look like she was emerging from the sea. We wanted to show two bridesmaid accessory options; first was this delicate crown by Feather and Coal with matching gemstones and feathery tulle detailing, followed by a traditional flower crown and bouquet.

For the crown Claire used a Spray rose called ‘blanchette’, Nigella buds (love in the mist), eucalyptus parvifolia foliage, thyme foliage, hellebores and grasses. The bouquet mirrored this beautifully with the addition of grevillia, amsonia, succulents, air plants and silver senicio foliage.

Capturing the day was our wildly talented duo – Lucy Davenport Photography and ROOST Film Co. Their combined softness and attention to detail is dreamy and we’re so pleased with how they interpreted our vision.

From Jessie Thomson Weddings & EventsThis beautiful church ceremony and marquee garden wedding is absolutely perfect for the modern luxury bride – set in the grounds of their private home in England, we mixed crisp white organic florals with soft grey silk linen, subtle blush details and contemporary furnishings to create a traditional yet elegant and timeless celebration. Not only did this two day affair visually look amazing, it was also an incredible experience for their guests; from Jo Malone scent throughout, a special powder room for the ladies complete with beautiful dressing tables, an oyster shucker at the outdoor drinks reception as a gift to the father of the bride, live drums and sax accompanying the late night DJ, and a bloody mary bar at the post-wedding brunch. Each element was considered to please all of the senses, and truly reflected the effortless personal style of the gorgeous bride and delightful groom.

From the bride…. Growing up, and when I allowed myself to dream about it, I always thought I knew exactly how I wanted my wedding to be – a traditional English wedding in a church with a marquee reception. For me, that was the dream. Yet, after I had said “yes” I had to explore every option – getting married with just close family and friends around us on a sandy beach in Barbados, a country house hotel in the Cotswolds…we even looked at licensing our own garden! There are so many options and there is so much pressure to make this the very best day of your lives (after your children’s birthdays of course!) that you can get totally caught up in a wedding frenzy. That was me. The girl that had had a box of magazine clippings full of ideas for saying I do in her bedside drawer since the beginning of time, didn’t know what to do! During our engagement we moved in to our “forever home” and it was only when visiting the house one day we realised it was the perfect place for our wedding day. There is a beautiful church in our village which is walking distance from the house and imagining it there was just like thinking of the wedding I had always dreamed of growing up.

Once the decision was made to get married at home I knew exactly what I wanted to do and how I wanted it to look. My husband let me take the lead with all the styling and detail, his big thing was the food and wine so I left him to work with our chosen catering company “Horseradish” and I have to say, they did a great job!

I am naturally a very organized person (I have to be, its my job!) but I knew from the start that I wanted to have the help of a wedding planner for the lead up to the big day and the day itself. This was definitely one of the best decisions I made. I had insta-stalked a few people after our engagement but I knew that Jessie was the right one for us. Her style was flawless and I knew we would be on the same page from the start. Jessie took all the stress out of the day itself and was always there to bounce my ideas off and bring me back down to earth when they got out of control (importing the perfect chairs from china?!) My second priority was the stationery, you only get to make one first impression and I wanted it to set the tone of the day. Thanks again goes to Instagram for introducing me to the beyond talented Gemma Milly, just check out her page and you’ll see what I mean! She managed to bring together every element of my wildest stationary dreams and make them reality – printing rose gold foil on wood veneer, our own monogrammed wax stamp and beautiful water colour illustrations. It was well worth the disagreement I had with my husband over how much budget I had portioned to it!!

I was really lucky in that I had the same feeling about Katie our photographer too and felt like I had hit the jackpot when I realised they had worked together before and I saw what they had created. To me, these were the most important parts of the day – the styling and the photographs and after I had these two booked I had peace of mind. It was then that I could concentrate on my dress! I went down to London to Browns Bride and Vera Wang (so much fun!) but as beautiful as they all were I didn’t want to walk down the isle in something that was “Off the Peg”. It also didn’t sit well with me to pay so much money for something that isn’t unique. A good friend of mine had had her dress made for her wedding and she passed on the details to me. As soon as I met Claire I knew it was the route that I wanted to go down. It was great to be able to make tweaks and changed all the way through (which I certainly did – sorry Claire!!) and feel like I had played a part in designing the dress. Claire also made my sisters bridesmaid dress which again made the process so much easier as I wanted my bridesmaids and flower girls to be in white and who knew there were so many different shades!! With Claire making the two dresses it was easy to get the perfect match.

The flower girl choices were easy for me. I fell in love with Nelly Stella “Alice” dress as soon as I saw it. With its layers and layers of soft white tulle it was the perfect dress for my little angels!

I’d say I spent most of my time leading up to the wedding on the little details. I sat on my iPad night after night researching and looking for ideas. I kept a Pinterest board and followed lots of lovely wedding related blogs. I think it’s so important to do this so you can be sure that you include everything you want to on the day and put your personal touch on it.

I firmly believe that the week leading up to the wedding day is almost as wonderful as the day itself. You float around in a world of excitement and anticipation, watching everything fall in to place and seeing all your hard work come together. The moment the marquee guys arrived I was transported in to my own little bubble, it was such a happy time. My advice to my friends and future brides to be is to really enjoy this week, it’s too late for panic so let it be and take as much time off work as possible!

We had planned to have a dinner after our rehearsal the night before the wedding and that really was the start of the celebrations. All our family and wedding party came together and it was so special to have that time with them before the craziness of the day itself.

Although I had had my bridezilla moments in the final weeks before, I felt totally calm on the morning of our wedding. I woke up early to the most beautiful clear skies and made breakfast for my flower girls and bridesmaids. I then took time to be with our daughter because I knew it would be difficult later in the day. She was only 20 months at the time and was a little confused by what was going on!

It was beyond exciting seeing all the suppliers arriving and setting up and during my hair and make up I couldn’t help but keep popping outside to check on progress! The morning flew by and before I knew it the rest of the bridal party had arrived and I was putting my dress on. It was at this point that the nerves kicked in as I realised due to minor hiccups and changing of plans I was running a fashionable 15 minutes late! Bride tip – be ready half an hour before you think you should be…and then add on another 15 minutes! There is never enough time!

Although only half a miles journey, traveling to the church with my Dad was one of the most special moments of the day. He was cool and calm and I felt so lucky to have him there by my side. As we walked down the tree lined path to the church he took my arm, told me I looked beautiful and we followed the flower girls, my daughter and my sister down the isle. The picture of smiling faces of our friends and family all under one roof was so special. I was so happy I couldn’t stop grinning! When I reached the end and saw my husband I was overwhelmed with emotion. The first hymn began and I couldn’t hold in my happy tears! Thankfully the forward thinking best man handed me a handkerchief as I tried to pull myself together!

This Christmas Affair is what Winter Dreams are Made of

Christmas weddings conjure images of poinsettia-lined aisles and decor in shades of red and green. So, this Christmas wedding in the Cotswolds is a breath of fresh air with its beautiful sophistication and holiday cheer. A color palette of caramel, gray and blush created a warm romance while a stag motif and wintery flora brought the festive feel of Christmas to the whole affair. See all the magic moments (including gorgeous twobirds Bridesmaid dresses), captured by Weddings by Nicola & Glen, in The Vault!

From Weddings By Nicola And Glen… Nicola and Bryn celebrated their December wedding at Barnsley House in the Cotswolds. We love how our couple embraced the festive feel of Christmas in a fresh and feminine way with a glamorous touch of the countryside too. Caramels, greys and blush hues created a romantic atmosphere. A stag motif ran through the paper goods and table decor evoking the season and setting. Our Bride wore an edgy and utterly wondrous Watters ensemble; consisting of the exquisite Kian corset and Priya skirt!

Some of our favourite details were the bespoke wreath our couple commissioned from Flowers by Passion. Personalized christmas decorations acted as a lovely favour each guest could pick off the christmas tree before sitting down for dinner. Guests also wrote special messages of congratulations to the couple on blank baubles, which Nicola and Bryn will use on their tree for future Christmases as a beautiful alternative guest book.

Our couple opted for a First Look followed by a candlelit church ceremony. They were welcomed back to Barnsley House with a beautiful sparkler reception. Post ceremony celebrations were kicked off with winter warmer cocktails, hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows by the open fire!

From The Bride…We were friends long before we fell in love. We worked for the same company, and although we had very different jobs our paths crossed enough for us to find our shared sense of humour, passion for the English countryside and enjoyment of good company.

Years later, when fate threw us together following the break up of both our previous marriages, we had a solid trusting foundation which gave us the confidence to follow our hearts and go for it.

Inspiration for the day…When Bryn proposed in the summer of 2014 in Rome, we both knew we wanted to be married in the quintessentially English Cotswolds which we are fortunate to have on our doorstep and at our favourite time of year – Christmas.

Having looked at a number of venues – We came up the sweeping driveway of Barnsley House Hotel, took one step inside and was greeted by Michel and his amazing team and our decision was made there and then! It would be perfect for the fun-filled two days we were looking for with our close friends and family. It was to be a Christmas wedding with lots of sparkle, candles, marshmallows toasting on log fires, warming cocktails and lots of laughter and I had no hesitation that the Barnsley House team and the superb Cotswold Wedding Company would have it all covered. Barnsley became even more special when we started going to church in the village as well. The Parish have really embraced us and the personalities which now make this centuries old village thrive have given us some amazing memories.

Most memorable moment of the day… As our wedding ceremony was at dusk our photographers (Nicola and Glen) encouraged us to do a ‘first look’ and see each other before the ceremony. It was the most magical experience walking up behind Bryn and tapping him on the shoulder – he turned round and my heart filled with overwhelming love…There were many tears and re-applying of make up!

Advice? Stretch it out for as long as possible! We gave everybody the chance to get together the day before the wedding, and on the morning of the wedding the boys went shooting and the girls had a lazy breakfast…we wanted our guests to make new friends and leave having felt they had had a break as well.

My dress (a corset and tulle skirt) was from Watters and my footwear was Jimmy Choo! Bryn, Tim (best man) and Steve (surrogate father of the bride and best friend) all wore bespoke HUGO BOSS. The bridesmaids were in TwoBirdsBridesmaids and Jimmy Choo shoes. Paxton and Whitfield provided the cheesecake.

From Clean Plate PicturesWhen my sister-in-law Helen asked me to photograph her and Sam’s London wedding, I was so honored and excited – I knew it would be an incredible day, and it was! The wedding took place in Sam’s contemporary art gallery, Assembly Point, and it was a super stylish, colorful love fest! Helen’s beautiful yellow dress and all the personal touches throughout the event were amazing. All of the decorations and flowers were put together by the couple and their friends and family. After a gorgeous ceremony with readings and songs, and a confetti-covered exit, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed cocktails in the gallery courtyard, then headed inside for an Indian feast. The speeches brought tears as well as much laughter, then the dancing began! The day was so bright and fun, just like these sweethearts.

London’s calling and thanks to Amy Fanton Photography we’re answering its’ ring. For this stunning engagement session is fit for royalty and we’ve got it all to share. From their sweet downtown stroll, to the stunning scenery, we’ve got it all waiting for you in The Vault!

From Amy Fanton PhotographyI photographed this engagement session in the heart of Central London on several of my favorite cobblestone streets in Kensington. The goal of the engagement shoot was to create imagery that reflected the classic style of the couple and there was no better setting to frame them than the quaint Mews streets and grand limestone buildings that are so characteristic of central London. We spent the session playfully wandering the old streets of Kensington as I led the couple through a series of interactions that led to natural and authentic reactions and emotions. The bride to be wore a romantic creme colored Ted Baker dress paired with classic nude pumps while the groom to be looked dapper in a classic navy blazer. As the bride is a wedding photographer herself, it was a great honor to be asked to photograph their engagement! I photographed using a combination of film and digital to get the best of both worlds.

Tips to Look Your Best at Your Engagement Session

Be Brave with Your Wedding Bouquet

If a colorful bouquet laced with fruit filled accents is your jam, then get scrollin’ because this handful of heaven is just that. We’ve got Westwood Design to thank for this pretty lil’ saturated posy and we’ve got the breakdown waiting for you below – don’t miss all that AND more from Sarah Hannam  in The Vault!

From Westwood DesignI always remind people that this should be the most special bouquet of flowers you’ve ever held. It needs to trump every bunch of roses you’ve been given and be far more exciting than those hydrangeas you buy down the market every Sunday. You’ll never forget it, you’ll be glad that you went for something with a bit of Ooh La Laaaaa.I spend time with my couples, I get to know them and their likes and dislikes, we take inspiration from a random painting they like because it reminds them of when they met. I then like to challenge couples, suggest things that they wouldn’t normally think they’d like because we have to be challenged sometimes in order to create something completely unique.

  • Icelandic Poppies
  • Sweetpeas
  • Iris
  • French Tulips
  • White Narcissus
  • Kumquats
  • Ranunculus
  • Fritillaria Imperialis
  • Orchids
  • Jasmine

BE INSPIRED BY THE SEASONS, THEY MAY SURPRISE YOU

One of the reasons I love my job so much is the additional challenge that the seasons give me. Nature will do as it pleases and we need to work with it, not against it. You may have seen the perfect bouquet on Pinterest, but your wedding is in September and peonies are out of season, so let’s take that bouquet as inspiration and create something new, working with the best quality flowers that are available to us. For this bouquet, I wanted to create something that is the absolute epitome of Spring. In England, the first true sign of Spring is the daffodils and narcissus that seem to have bloomed overnight along our parks and pavements so it seemed appropriate to use these as inspiration for my design.

EMBRACE UNUSUAL COLOURS

You may surprise yourself when it comes to colour. For instance, I am someone that pretty much only ever wears black, cream and grey. I’m not a colourful person, but when it comes to flowers, the more I work with them the more I appreciate unexpected colour combinations. I would never ever wear yellow, but a hand dyed marigold silk ribbon tied to a bouquet of peach and burnt orange flowers? Yes please! You don’t have to be a colourful person to have a colourful personality and I like to think that your wedding flowers should be an extension of your personality. They are an expression of your happiness on this special day.

TRUST YOUR FLORIST

Be open to your florists artistic direction and trust them to pick flowers that are suited to you. This is why it is so important that we know as much about your day as possible. As a stylist as well as a florist, I am obsessed with the tiny details! Each arrangement we make will have it’s own unique quality and the shape of your bouquet will often be determined by each individual stem and it’s personal formation. This means that the final result, with it’s unique shape, unexpected colour combinations and flower varieties, will be solely yours, perfectly captured forever.

This English Garden Wedding is Our Perfect Cup of Tea

Everything I’ve ever dreamt about a classic English garden wedding is perfectly summed up in this day photographed by Ashlee Taylor. The setting (her parents’ backyard garden), the style (timeless as can be), and the bride’s stunning dress by British designer Suzanne Neville all add up to a gallery you simply cannot miss. See it all here!

From Ashlee TaylorHolly and Paul created the most stunning of garden weddings. They used local suppliers to create a homely yet elegant day. Setting up a luxurious tent in her parents garden which offered the perfect setting for their day, the colour palette also gives a perfect node to the Pantone 2016 colours.

Her ‘maids looked so stunning in their wrap dresses which created perfect formal portraits. Holly’s dress was custom made by renowned British designer Suzanne Neville, it created the perfect silhouette for her delicate frame. I loved how they both kept aspects personal like having Holly’s mother’s flower club decorate the tent and Paul wearing his father in laws tails. This was a classically British day which provides inspiration for any bride wanting to create a timeless yet beautiful day.

This London Wedding is So Glam, Even Jay Gatsby Would Be Jealous

One beautiful vintage-inspired Gemy Maalouf wedding dress. Lush winter white flowers from Emma Walker Flowers. The glamorous Rosewood London with its art deco architecture and copper corridor. This London wedding is as fabulous as any one of Jay Gatsby’s fictional fêtes. Get inspired by all the gorgeous details, captured through the lens of Weddings By Nicola And Glen, in The Vault!

From The Bride…We knew from the offset that we wanted a London wedding, having met working in the City. We had our ceremony at the beautiful St Bride’s church on Fleet Street (alarmingly close to the office…) and the reception at the glamorous Rosewood hotel. Having just returned from living in Singapore, we wanted something which reflected both the history and the modernity of London. After going to see the Rosewood, we loved the art deco features and the copper corridor and wanted to use that as a recurring theme across the wedding.

We were incredibly lucky with all of our suppliers who helped us bring our vision to life and give us a day we will look back on with joy for the rest of our lives. Our advice to other couples planning their wedding would be to remember that everyone wants you to have a lovely day, so don’t worry too much about the small stuff and remind yourself occasionally why you’re getting married! Our most memorable moment was when all of our guests had left St Bride’s and we had a moment together realizing we were married and Anna was stuck with me forever.

From Isobel WeddingsWith Rhys and Anna living overseas for the vast majority of the planning, plus having very busy jobs, their beautiful wedding was brought together by Skype calls, emails and meeting whenever they were back in the UK. The decision to choose the Rosewood, London, for the reception was made on a call while Rhys ran through an airport!

We worked with Gee Brothers to create invitations and stationery that echoed the rose bronze of the Rosewood. Overall, Anna and Rhys wanted the day to feel relaxed, elegant and romantic. The sun was setting as they left St Bride’s, on what was a crisp November day, and they arrived at the reception to find it filled with warm lighting, candles and white flowers. Working with Emma Walker Flowers, the stairs in the drinks reception were covered with foliage and flowers, as if it was growing down the bannisters. The reception tables’ arrangements were a mixture of white flowers, succulents, frosted branches and candles, giving the natural, elegant feel that Anna wanted. Copper touches continued in the calligraphy by Claire at Calligraphy for Weddings.

After a delicious meal by the chefs at the Rosewood, the Art Deco inspired cake by Princess Patisserie was cut and the party got started to the music of Bellissima, one of our favorite party bands. The dancefloor was packed the entire night, with signature cocktails enjoyed at the mirrored bar.

We were delighted to help create an amazing day for Anna and Rhys and have loved reliving it through Nicola and Glen’s photographs, as they really capture the romance of the day.

Culturally Rich Elegant Wedding Filled with Whimsy

Anyone that knows me, KNOWS how I feel about Hello Kitty. Translation: I LOVE HELLO KITTY. So clearly, this wedding is my new absolute favorite, kawaii to the core. From Natasha Hurley Photography… I am thrilled to share this beautiful and heartfelt wedding set in The Queen’s House in Greenwich, London. The day maintained Chinese traditions whilst also incorporating an elegant, classical English wedding feel. The couple opted for a Tea Ceremony in the morning (prior to which there were ‘games’ which had been dreamed up by the bridesmaids and which the groom and his groomsmen had to pass before being allowed to see the bride). After the Tea Ceremony the bride and groom tied the knot in the opulent Queen’s House with its black and white tiled floor and classical columns. The couple included summer English garden games for guests during the drinks reception and a gumball machine with lucky dip toys which also doubled up as favors. The bride decorated the gardens of the Queen’s House with giant tea-cups and saucers as seating. The bride wore a beautiful full length gown and cathedral veil for the ceremony changing into traditional Chinese dress for the Tea ceremonies and toasts in the evening.

From The Bride…We envisaged a very classic, traditional and elegant wedding with subtle hints expressing our playful personalities set our home of London.

One of the reasons we chose The Queens House as our venue was because we fell for the beautiful architecture from the black and white marble flooring to columns outside to the history of the building it definitely was a classical setting. We are really lucky to have such a beautiful, charming venue local to us, it was the perfect location in Greenwich Park with a view of the River Thames. In terms of color I particularly love the blush pinks and wanted to keep it quite neutral but also adding touches of gold and black to give it a slight hint of a luxury feel and sophistication.

Origami Heart Wishes – My brother is very creative, I gave him a sample of an origami heart I really liked and wanted to incorporate into the wedding as as wish for our guests to write on so we could keep forever. After a few days he changed the design to suit what we wanted, made a batch and taught all my aunties, uncles and cousin’s how to make them. It was a fun session with all my family and 6 hours later 250 gold and pink origami hearts were made, thank you to all my family!

I have a big love for flowers and have always had an idea of what I wanted my bouquet to look like – blush color tones with my favorite flowers and natural looking. My wedding planner (Mark Tilley from Palette) and I had our initial meet and he understood exactly what my thoughts were, we looked through my pinterest boards and it was confirmed that my bouquet would consist of blush peonies, blush and sand colored roses and white turning green hydrangeas that I would use as my substitute for foliage. The first time I saw my bouquet, it was a feeling of love for the most perfect union of flowers and admiration for Mark. The bouquet was much bigger than I anticipated but I secretly loved that it was.

The 1st time I ever tried on a wedding gown, it was the Alcanar by Pronovias. Lace, simple, strapless with a small sweetheart neckline, princess cut that was light, fluffy and had a big train. It was everything I wanted & when I put it on it made my maid of honor Leekim cry. I spent another 6 months trying on lots of other dresses in all designs, shapes and materials which were all stunning but nothing compared to that vey 1st dress. So it was decided with a matching veil and pearl covered peep toe Gina’s, a pair of simple rose gold diamond drop earrings I would walk down the aisle in the Alcanar gown.

We wanted something different, something unique and we spent a long time brainstorming lots of ideas. We wanted something for our guests to associate with us, with the wedding, with happily ever after as after all that is what a wedding is all about. We hired a giant gumball machine and put this outside the orangery in the garden where the string quartet was playing classic Disney songs with everyone singing the words off by heart. We had made personalized tokens for each guest with their name on and put it on their seats. After the ceremony they could then use the token to redeem a giant gumball. Once you received one and popped it open, out came a Disney Tsum Tsum with a little personalized thank you card from us. Along with the Disney music in the background and with the Disney Tsum Tsum it was a little bit of magical surprise and happily ever after for everyone.

I was initially unsure with how I wanted the cake to look as there are sooo many amazing cakes out there especially after visiting all the wedding exhibitions and seeing all the displays, the cakes were simply out of this world. I did lots of research and of course put together a pinterest board with designs, colors, and details I liked about each cake. I met with Maria-Antonia from Villa Dolce who advised me from her experience what would work best. I then took what I liked out of each cake on my pinterest and sketched them onto a bit of paper, it was an all white 5 layer cake. Our logo on the middle layer with beading, lace detailing, and ribbon on all other layers. On the day the cake was decorated with flowers matching my bouquet and cutting into the cake revealed a yummy bright red velvet flavored sponge.
