Enniskerry Ireland Wedding from Therese Aherne Weddings

A few years back, my sister spent an amazing semester studying abroad in Ireland.  Every week she would call me with awesome tales involving yummy fish and chips and frolicking around the breathtaking countryside with her flatmates.  I was just sort of jealous (ahem), and it was then and there that I made the decision that I would someday travel to Ireland to shamelessly recreate every experience my sister was having.  This wedding from Therese Aherne Weddings just reminded me of how much I want that to happen.  A masterpiece of nuptial bliss, it’s a stunning Irish backdrop + a beautiful couple + the wedding of my dreams.  See it all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… When people ask us how and when we first met, they are surprised when we tell them we met in 5th grade when we were 10-years-old. We shared a classroom in elementary school in Ontario, Canada. Unfortunately for all of you romantics, the story doesn’t actually start there. After going our separate ways for high school and University, it wasn’t until 2007 that our paths crossed again at the wedding of a mutual friend. At this point we discovered that we were both living and working in Europe. The relationship didn’t start there either. Another year went by as strangers. Thanks to Facebook, email and the matchmaking skills of our mutual friend, we finally arranged to have our first date in Budapest, Hungary in 2009. And this is when it all began. We courted in cities all over Europe and were engaged in Positano, Italy. It made sense for our wedding to take place in Europe.

Powerscourt House is one of the most breathtaking estates in Ireland. The formal gardens span more than 47 acres in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. From the moment I stepped foot inside Powerscourt House, I had goosebumps. We had invited guests from all parts of the world to help us celebrate our wedding and we knew this venue would blow them away. We wanted our wedding reception to be luxurious, but yet maintain a fun and warm atmosphere. Powerscourt House and Gardens had the charm and the romance we were looking for. Because the venue was picturesque, we required only simple decor to pull it all together. The florist, Little Daisy Flowers, helped me bring my vision to life. We used beautiful fresh flowers and simple candlelight to create the mood.

Most of our guests were traveling a great distance to celebrate with us, so we wanted to incorporate elements that would make them feel at home. We provided a wedding bus to transport them from their hotels to the church and reception. For all the children at the wedding, individually wrapped gifts with coloring books and candy were waiting for them at their table. My mother, sisters and I spent hours making strawberry jam to set on the tables as favors. We also set out baskets of slippers for the girls to change into when their feet got sore from dancing.

Kevin and I wanted the wedding day to reflect our own personalities and our relationship. We love traditional Irish music and that played throughout the ceremony and the wine reception. We had fallen in love over weekend dates in difference cities in Europe and so all the tables in the dining hall were named after countries we had visited. We created a picture table which displayed pictures of Kevin and I on our travels. It also displayed our grandparents on their wedding day for good luck. For the dinner music, we put together a playlist of our favorite songs. The first dance song mirrored our long distance relationship and all of the hurdles we had jumped to be together. Kevin is an avid golfer and we knew a mini golf set would act as the perfect kissing game. We also love ice cream and chose to serve that for dessert instead of traditional cake.

An Irish day wouldn’t have been complete without a bit of rain. The rains came, but we were prepared with umbrellas and rubber boots. The rain didn’t put a damper on the day and even made for some stunning photos. The feeling on the day was one of pure happiness. All of the months of planning had paid off. We got to relax and enjoy all the little moments. Looking around the ballroom at the guests that had traveled so far to be with us was the biggest reward of all.

Ireland Wedding from Lisa O’Dwyer Photography

I suffer from a serious case of travel fever at all times. It’s something I will never be able to change, and my list of places I just have to visit continues to grow by the day. Ireland just happens to be resting comfortably at the top of my list at the moment, so this wedding (captured to stunning perfection by Lisa O’Dwyer Photography) is making my day like you wouldn’t believe. Because not only is the Emerald Isle setting the stage, but every detail of this wedding couldn’t be more perfect – so I am just throwing up my hands in surrender to this couldn’t-be-more-perfect destination soiree. See why here.

From the Bride…From the time of our engagement, we envisioned a ‘vintage’ destination wedding in Ireland. Joined by our closest friends and family, we spent the week touring the Emerald Isle culminating with our wedding on 10/11/12. Tweed vests, orange and blue TOMS shoes, and wool patchwork caps pulled together the men’s attire. The bridesmaids continued the “fogeyish” ambiance with cardigans, pearls, lace, and typewriter keys fastened to wildflower bouquets. Our first look was in the walled garden of Knappogue Castle in Quin, county Clare. We broke from tradition and made the night our own; enjoying ‘cake-shots’ and Ceili dancing with the local Strawboys at Vaughan’s Pub. Eric chose the boys outfits himself! The little typewriter key bouquet charms are from Stacia’s and are each bridesmaid’s initial. A traditional harpist was at the ceremony playing traditional music. They had a traditional Celtic handfasting ceremony was included as well. All destination planning by LA ex-pat Annie Byrne of Aislinn Events in County Kerry.

Dublin Elegance from Pretty As A Picture + The Bridal Lounge + Christina Brosnan

If I could, I would step into this gorgeous shoot, and live in it forever. It’s the perfect mix of elegance and sophistication mixing and mingling with a color palette that will stand the test of time – all crafted beautifully by the team behind the gorgeousness – The Bridal LoungePretty as a PictureThe Garden, Powerscourt and Christina Brosnan (to name a few). It’s inspiration overload in the best possible way, and really, what more could you ask for? See it all here.

The inspiration continues with this gorgeous film from Best Day Productions

From Pretty as a Picture… This is a sophisticated, elegant Dublin City wedding inspiration photo shoot. Our theme was classic elegance with green and black being the key colors used. The ceremony was held in Dublin City Hall, right in the middle of Dublin City centre. Renowned for it’s Georgian architecture, City Hall provided the perfect backdrop for the photographs, bringing some rich history into this modern wedding.

The bride and groom then moved to a stylish Michelin Star restaurant alongside Dublin’s canal for an intimate reception. For their first dance together a beautiful park was chosen. The bride changed her dress for her first dance and wears a beautiful black shrug to finish her outfit.

Custom illustrated stationery was created for the shoot. The couple’s story was illustrated and includes imagery of Dublin City, the canal and the couple themselves on a bellyband which wraps around the sophisticated invitation. An illustrated map was included outlining details of their special day.

A wedding dress portrait was also illustrated as a gift from the groom to the bride on the morning of their wedding depicting the brides dress, creating a beautiful keepsake for the couple of their wedding day.

A big thank you to all the high quality suppliers who participated in this shoot who helped make this happen!

From White Sage Events… When you think of Irish weddings you may think of spellbinding castles, rolling hills and wonderful rugged green landscapes.  However we wanted to show a completely fresh and unique Irish wedding through this beach wedding photo-shoot.

We took inspiration from some of those amazing barefoot, simple and sweet weddings we have seen on Style Me Pretty. The shoot took place on the stunning Derrynane Beach in Co. Kerry, located on the West Coast of Ireland. This isn’t something you see too often around here and just look how beautiful the color and texture of the surrounds lends itself to a wonderfully romantic setting.

We wanted the striking natural surrounds of Derrynane Beach to ‘do the talking’ at it were! The main color palette came naturally through the coloured sands, grasses and driftwood on the beach. We complemented these matt tones by adding some warm metallic urns, mirrored boxes, pastel dessert treats and beautifully soft peachy floral tones.

We took it up a notch for the nighttime shoot and added glamour to the wardrobe, however they are still barefoot! You’ll see the difference in color from the sunlight as we shot throughout the day, going from bright to warm to dusk.

This is the Ireland that you rarely see and this is the Ireland that is on the pulse of all of the wonderful US trends we see everyday on Style Me Pretty.

Ireland Inspiration Shoot from Lisa O’Dwyer + White Sage Events

This Ireland inspiration shoot is all about color – red to be exact! From Lisa O’Dwyer… Red is a beautiful bright beating hue in a sea of pastels. We love how red really becomes saturated against greens and greys. Red painted lips are gorgeous on pale brides. A pop of red on a belted white lace dress, nails, macarons, a feathered fascinator is wonderful anytime of year…but especially in the depths of winter. We hope you like our red Christmas inspiration in the wilds of County Kerry Ireland!

Doonbeg, Ireland Wedding Film from Deneemotion Boutique Wedding Cinema

I’m just going to come right out and say it.  I have a slight case of wedding envy.  The kind of wedding envy that can only be brought on by a sweet destination affair in one of the world’s most gorgeous locales (Ireland, of course) and a bride and groom that are sooo in love, it’s palpable.  A wedding envy that has me dreaming of a world where said bride and groom are my besties, because, let’s face it… I would have made this trip in a heartbeat.  The next best thing?  Watching this beautiful (+ mesmerizing) film from Deneemotion Boutique Wedding Cinema, which has literally transported me to an affair that is not only drop-dead gorgeous, but full of love and friendship.  Press play and join me.

Ireland Wedding from Brosnan Photographic

The best way to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day, in my book, is to get cozy with a destination wedding in the birthplace of green-loving festivities. Ireland is, without a doubt, one of the most gorgeous landscapes for marrying. There’s an old world charm that can’t be beat and when you add a wildly gorgeous Bride to the mix – one who looks like she stepped right out of a Jane Austen novel – the result is a day woven with elegance and simple beauty as seen through the lens of Brosnan Photographic. Have a look at the full affair right here in the gallery.

From Brosnan Photographic:  Emily and Lonan chose the beautiful location of Ballyvolane House for their reception and ceremony under the trees mixing Irish and Jewish traditions. Emily’s Claire Pettibone gown flowed off her petite silhouette and her bridesmaids dresses were custom designed by Emily’s favourite designer Hà Trùòng in Vietnam. Truly one of a kind. It’s been Emily’s dream to perform a dance from Pride and Prejudice so along with their wedding party and a few close friends they surprised everyone with the coordinated dance accompanied by a string quartet in the garden after the ceremony. As most of their wedding party was scattered around the globe they each practised on their own time and it all came together smoothly on the wedding day. That’s some dedication I have to applaud!

Ireland Wedding from Birds of a Feather

Magical things happen when you say “I do” in Ireland. I’m not sure whether it’s those romantic rainy days or the sprawling green scenery, but this land of luck is perhaps the most perfect place to tie the knot. Add in the talents of Birds of a Feather’s Sarah Yates and styling by hiphip, and you can just about guarantee a destination wedding dream come true. There’s no better way to spend your morning than cozying up in the full gallery right here.

From Birds of a FeatherWhen I first met with photographers Sean and Yvette their only brief was fun and keep things local. Literally I kid you not. This pair were super easy going and such a pleasure to work with. So fun and local they got! Firstly and more than serendipitous Yvette’s family had the perfect home in Co Sligo to host the wedding reception and what a place, it is overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Beyond perfect. Secondly Yvette’s sister owns Appassionata Florists, one of the best if not THE best, florists in Ireland. Ruth, who was also a bridesmaid, and her wonderful team worked tirelessly to ensure all elements of flower design was just right.

The day started off with the bride and her two pals going for a swim in the Atlantic Ocean, a cleansing start for her new life. The ceremony was steeped in history, taking place nearby at The Mass Rock, an isolated location that was used to hold religious ceremonies during Penal times, when observing Catholic mass was a matter of difficulty and danger.  A custom made sail, created over the course of weeks by one man’s hands covered the area for the ceremony.  Celtic Priest Dara Molloy resided over the ceremony at the outdoor rock alter.  During the ritual the couple held hands, right hand in right hand, and left hand in left with their wrists crossed. Ribbon or cord was wrapped around their wrists in a figure eight to represent infinity. This is most probably where the saying “‘tying the knot” originated from!

Following the ceremony and back at the house, guests feasted on Sligo Oysters and the indigenous tipple of Guinness in a circus tent with views spanning across the Atlantic Ocean while local bluegrass band Mad Uncle Harry provided the music. Oh to be a guest sometimes! After dinner, guests were moved to the Grand Pavilion, (read giant circus tent) where they dined on a banquet of the most amazing Irish produce provided by Wildside Catering and served by rather dramatically dressed staff! The Ukeristic Congress were on musical duties for the duration of dinner. What a blast, 3 bands so far and we haven’t even started the party yet!

In keeping with the pair’s passion, all tables were named after famous photography books and leaves from around the garden acted as place holders. Local bark was cut, treated and waxed and used as centerpieces. The family stepped up again as all wine came from their own vineyard in France and Yvette’s friend made the wedding cake – a delicious treat made even more delicious by the fact that it was the first cake he ever made! It was so lovingly put together and decorated with little photographers and cameras. As dinner came to an end, locally owned, Monster Coffee mini van opened shop on the grounds to provide guests with after dinner coffees and brownies, and some of the coffees were made a little bit more “Irish” to get the party started.

Irish drag queen Veda Beaux Reves soon started party proceedings off and guests were kept lubricated by custom made cocktails, The Breithaupt, named after the happy couple and served from a huge Winnebago parked overlooking the sea. Those drinks were needed after that show! A midnight feast of Iberico ham and an obscene amount of cheese provided sustenance to keep energy levels high. Irish musician David Kitt DJ’ed late into the night and the party kept going until 5.30am at which stage the last people standing, including the bride and groom, proceeded to the hotel across the road to keep the party going.

The next morning despite only having about two hours sleep they all went off for a dip in the Atlantic and did it all again in the form of a huge dinner in the family restaurant in Sligo!!! This pair have energy!

Amalfi Coast Wedding at Villa dei D’Armieto from Jillian Modern Photography

I was lucky enough to spend a few days of my honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast, and I can honestly say I left a little piece of my heart there. It’s pure heaven. Every little bit of the beautiful coastline wrapped me up and made me want to stay forever, so when I laid eyes on this wedding from Jillian Modern Photography? I was a goner. I got completely lost in all the Italian goodness, and I don’t regret one bit. Because this pretty fête captures so much of what I loved about that gorgeous place topped off with a Bride in a Vera Wang gown – officially checking off all my weaknesses. See so much more here.

From Jillian Modern PhotographyThis wedding is 100% DIY, all details were tended to by the bridal party on the morning of the wedding. It was a fun team effort! Lemons… lemons… and more lemons! And if you have ever been to Sorrento you will know why. The entire peninsula is covered by lemon trees. They incorporate the lemon into everything that you eat or drink. I had also fallin in love with the color green, and when we went to see the Villa dei D’Armieto, the interior used this color everywhere in its details.

Lismore Castle, Ireland Wedding from Lisa O’Dwyer Photography

A castle with sweeping views of the Irish countryside sounds like a mighty fine place to say I do, and from the looks of the seriously breathtaking images taken by Lisa O’Dwyer it’s even more stunning than you can imagine. The gallery hosts image after image of classic elegance perfectly executed all surrounding two dapper Grooms and their obvious love for each other. Basically, it’s perfect. A dream wedding for a dreamy duo – and you won’t want to miss a minute of it. See it all here.

From Lisa O’Dwyer Lismore Castle is a historic castle owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and is located in the beautiful town of Lismore in rural County Waterford, Ireland. There is a fabulous collection of art in the castle, and an outdoor sculpture park which is very popular.

Declan and David’s ceremony there this September was the first civil partnership to take place at Lismore Castle. The ceremony took place in the Pugin Hall, which was decorated by the 19th century master decorator of the Houses of Parliament, A.W. Pugin.

Declan and David wore suits from Ted Baker. David’s cufflinks were from Dalvey. They gave each other a present of watches before the ceremony. All of the guests enjoyed cocktails in the courtyard of the magnificant castle after the ceremony. The dining room was decorated with colorful bowls of fruit and was very elegant. Declan and David made the table place name cards themselves. The castle catered the meal and did the flower decorations.

Ireland Wedding from Bondshots Photography

When people ask me where I would travel if I could go anywhere in the world, my answer is always Ireland, hands down. I mean, oh.my.word, if these gorgeous images from Bondshots Photography don’t convince you of the magnificence and grandeur in the rolling hills of the Irish country, I don’t know what will. I know that when I see the train of this Maggie Sottero gown in that picturesque formal garden of Adare Manor with the real-life castle behind it, it’s all I can do not to hop on a plane and head straight for the Emerald Isle. See our most beautiful o’ galleries right here.

From Bondshots PhotographyDoug and Gena traveled from one of the hottest, driest Texas summers on record to one of the rainiest summers Ireland has ever experienced for their destination wedding — but despite the downpour that day, nothing dampened their spirits or smiles. The bride and groom chose a very elegant venue, surrounded by medieval ruins and stonewalled gardens, and kept the event very intimate with only their closest family and friends in attendance. While the guys enjoyed a round of golf the morning of the wedding, the girls went puddle-jumping and relaxed in the beautiful Lady Caroline room. The ceremony, held in a gallery with soaring ceilings, stained glass and original woodwork, incorporated old Celtic traditions and blessings with music by an Irish singer and harpist. After celebrating with champagne and toasts, as Irish luck would have it, the rain stopped for 15 or 20 minutes so we could take a few outdoor shots in the garden. The evening came to a close with a cozy candlelit dinner in the library. The feel of the day was comfortable, familiar and other-worldly magical all at the same time.

From the Bride… From the very moment I met Doug, I knew he was special. I felt very lucky to have him as he taught me so many things about life and love. Early on, I started calling him my lucky charm as his nickname. He said he was lucky as well so he would call me Sham, short for Shamrock. He also called me his princess. We were at his step-sister’s wedding and as we were dancing, I told him that I loved him and was so lucky to have him in my life and he said, “I want to marry you someday.” And out of the blue, I said, “Marry me in Ireland.”  It just came to me that Ireland was the only place in the world I knew that was beautiful, romantic, lucky and had both shamrocks and castles fit for a princess, and so it was. He proposed to me on December 24, 2011 and we agreed Ireland would be the location for our destination wedding. We chose Adare Manor with the help of Collette, our wedding planner, because it was a beautiful castle that was warm, cozy and absolutely amazing!

Ireland Photo Shoot at Castle Leslie by KT Merry + Style Serendipity Part I

We have such a treat for you. A ridiculously beautiful, heart wrenchingly lovely treat…that will most certainly have your wedding obsessed heads a-spinning and just might leave you a bit breathless with pure, unabashed joy. It’s by far one of the loveliest pieces of inspiration we’ve ever seen and one that just might make you drop every wedding plan you’ve made so far and elope to a place, a moment, just like this. Photographed with a fine art approach and a thoughtful hand by the incredible KT Merry, with a design by Style Serendipity and Best of Buds Flowers and Events, this is exactly what we dream of every night. We have 2 parts coming up but if you just can’t wait (and we don’t blame you because it really does get better and better)…click here.

From KT Merry… Nestled on 1,000 acres of pristine and strikingly lush countryside, Castle Leslie is one of the last great family-owned estates in Ireland. With a top class equestrian center featuring some of the best cross country riding in the world, the facility boasts miles of walking paths and countryside to explore, as well as a complete spa and restaurant. This destination leaves little to long for. It is also the perfect place for a one-of-a-kind getaway and even more so … a destination wedding!

When we arrived at Castle Leslie, I instantly fell in love with the property’s old world charm. The castle is almost entirely original, down to the family portraits on the wall. Many of its structures date back to the 16th century. Behind the castle sits a picturesque lake that is dotted with row boats and swans. Guests are also treated to the occasional glimpse of horse and rider making their way through the fields and jumps in the distance (that is where you could find me when I wasn’t shooting!). It is certainly a place where romance seems to linger in the air and was an ideal location for our shoot. We wanted to create details that didn’t take away from the spirit of the location but would add a few modern touches to a place with so much history. Choosing gowns from two designers that combine old-world style and new-world vision effortlessly was key, and Samuelle Couture and Jenny Packham were the perfect matches. We also had the help of local stylist Ciara O’Halloran of Style Serendipity to bring in local vendors to create the Irish style we needed. The shoot couldn’t have been complete without two local Irish Wolfhounds and one Castle Leslie’s own horses, Clinton. Everyone at the castle, and Ireland for that matter, could not have been more welcoming, accommodating and so incredibly genuine.  It was one of our easiest overseas travels to date, simply because everyone we encountered was so sweet and helpful. I can only imagine that this would make the destination wedding experience that much more special for a couple.

With so many places in the world yet to see, I often find myself crossing destinations off my list after the first visit. However, I can certainly say that I have not crossed Ireland off my list and have already begun plotting my return…

Ireland Wedding at Kilshane House by Lisa O’Dwyer Photography

The classic Irish details and the whimsical spirit of this Kilshane House wedding is something out of a story book. The story of the Russian ballet Swan Lake to be exact. Lisa O’Dwyer Photography used masterful focus techniques to tell the story of this bride and groom’s day, which features bridesmaids dresses, a feather and pearl encrusted wedding gown, and a veil all inspired by Swan Lake and hand made by the bride’s Maid of Honor and sister.  After you look at the tease below, you simply must see the stunning sister in her own Pippa-esque creation and the surprise back of the bride’s dress in the full gallery!

From Lisa O’Dwyer Photography… Bo’s sister Adah (the blonde bridesmaid) made her wedding dress. Bo had Swan Lake as inspiration and Adah hand-sewed pearls and feathers to the duchess satin gown. She made the bridesmaids’ dresses too, and everything was her own design. Her signature emblem is sewn into the back of the dress. Adah is not a professional dress designer — this is her hobby. She was on a two-week Easter holiday from her art teacher job when she made the dresses (and veil)! The flowers were all designed by Bloomsday Flowers in Carrigtwohill, County Cork, Ireland. The inspiration was vintage country flowers, and Bo put a lot of thought into them based on the symbolism and language of flowers. Siobhan Walsh of Ballyneill in County Tipperary, where Bo is from, designed the cake in traditional Irish sugarcraft with pearls to match Bo’s dress. The country village church was in Bansha, County Tipperary, which is close to the venue Kilshane House. Kilshane House was built in the Regency period in 1822 and features a stunning glass house conservatory where the wedding party had their cocktail hour. The house is full of beautiful, whimsical details. There are also two dogs who belong to the owners of the house, and they love having their portraits taken!

From the bride… Paul and I had a wonderful wedding in Dublin at The Village at Lyons on July 11, 2011. I’m a fashion strategy student in Amsterdam, so I was quite concerned about my wedding style. Thank God that in Ireland we have so many good wedding retailers, but I selected some American vendors as well. The ceremony was in a very bright, open restaurant at The Village at Lyons. The French Touch made an arch with many beautiful peonies for the ceremony. I wore a Vera Wang dress with silver Roger Vivier shoes. Paul was wearing a Prada suit with a black agnes.b bow tie. We arranged for jazz music to be played by The Avoca String Quartet during cocktail time. We had a mushroom cake from Perfectionist Confectionist. One of the most lovely things was we had invitation cards and menus made by Rifle Paper Co. The wedding band was amazing. They played jazz and for the first song, which they had practiced especially for us, they played “Bad Things,” the theme song for the TV series True Blood. At midnight, we released colorful lanterns with the guests that had well-wishes for a happy future for us written on them. It felt so peaceful and complete.

From Brosnan PhotographicSarah, also the owner of Pearl & Godiva Vintage China Hire in Ireland, and Michael had two weddings. This is their first more intimate affair in West Cork. They were married in the Cork civil registry office and the rest of the day was spent taking photos on Garinish Island and at Glengarriff Lodge where they also got ready and had tea and cake. The first day was an intimate day for themselves. As Sarah is involved with weddings and styling she wanted her day to look as beautiful as her styled shoots.

Sarah and Michael are a very relaxed and natural couple. Michael is a farmer in Cork and Sarah ‘aka’ Pearl started Pearl & Godiva when she started collecting bits for her own wedding. The business is now booming and taking her around the world styling shoots.

From Brosnan Photographic… This is Part 1 of Ciara and Rian’s Wedding. Part 2 will be taking place in Carcassonne, the South of France at the end of the month. Ciara and Rian decided to have their traditional (legal) marriage in their home county of Cork, Ireland. They kept it a simple affair as the big celebrations will take place later in the month in France. It was just them and their parents present.

They were married in St. Finbar’s Oratory in Gougane Barra, a small chapel at the foot of the Cork mountains. Ciara and Rian are both music teachers and Rian surprised Ciara with a three piece string group for her entrance down the aisle. Ciara was expecting music to be played via an ipod. After the ceremony Rian surprised Ciara again with a brass ensemble outside the church, the only part of the day that made Ciara cry.

After the ceremony we took photos around Gougane Barra where Ciara braved the water with her wellies. We then went to Bantry House for more photos. After the photos Ciara and Rian had a quiet dinner with their parents in a local hotel. Their wedding in France will be celebrated with more friends and family, with an outdoor ceremony and reception on a vineyard and photos in the old city.
