Romantic Wedding Inspiration at Hickory Hill Orchards

I dare you to discover a situation where metallics just don’t work; I’ve deemed it impossible. I’ve been a fan of silver, gold, copper and more for quite awhile, but this shoot reinvigorated that love once more. Designed by 5th Avenue Weddings & Events, the mixed metallic shades came together to create one romantic, ethereal scene, captured by Simply K Studios; join me in this fashionable fan club right here!

From 5th Avenue Weddings & Events… When I was asked to put together this shoot for Hickory Hill Orchards, I sat with the owners to get a sense of what they were looking to do. We obviously wanted to keep it fresh; vintage would be an ideal look for an orchard, but why not bring a classic, modern side into that. Looking over current trends and trying not to repeat what has already been done, I knew mixed metals was the way to go and there was no doubt that I wanted copper to play a major role. As I spoke with each of my favorite vendors and pulled together the inspiration I knew it would be everything the owners envisioned. The “Elaine” wedding gown from Amsale’s new Spring 2016 line was just the beginning of the inspiration. Its soft skirt had just enough sparkle to not take away from the natural beauty of the gown. I added in the same softness with the bridesmaid dress, but in a deeper neutral grey, so it could mix well with the other metals of the shoot. The bold copper chandelier with the copper flatware, classic stationery, mixed metal makeup, ivory flowers, and soft fabrics helped bring everything together perfectly.

From Candi’s Floral Creations… With this shoot we wanted a fresh and on trend feeling and I’ve been wanting to use my vintage wire chandelier forever so I was determined to make it work in this orchard shoot.I am a big believer of adding that touch of gold or silver to glitz up a rustic wedding or enhance an elegant one. Frankly, I have been longing for a new glitzy element to use and looked to the other metallics. I sprayed my black chandelier copper and voila! The vision was born. I wanted that to be the focal piece and to have the copper and rose gold accents stand out so I chose to design all the florals in white. Since all white tends to feel elegant and given the location being an orchard, I designed everything a bit garden-y to create the overall feeling of garden elegance.

From Louis Purple… Charles Brunold is wearing a paisley ivory tuxedo jacket in wool and silk. Fully canvassed, this made-to-measure jacket brings together elegance, fit and comfort. It features a black satin shawl lapel with slanted pockets. The trousers were made out of the finest cloths in the world “Holland & Sherry” in wool and mohair. The bow tie is handcrafted in France by “Au fil de l’Aune.” Chloé and Charles Brunold, who are models as well, fell in love in New York City where their passion for the art of custom clothing provoked their encounter. You can meet them at their bespoke boutique in NOHO. Their French savoir-faire lead them to be recognized as one of the finest for custom clothing in NYC.

From Erica O’Brien… We wanted this cake to be classic with a touch of whimsy. Coloring the top tier copper allowed us to incorporate metallics while giving the cake a somewhat less formal feel, perfect for a wedding at an orchard. To compliment the florals, we handcrafted edible sugar flowers including leaves, berries, and a large-scale open rose.

From Admire Design… I started this paper suite by designing a custom monogram for the couple featuring an antique engraved frame; so classic. What really makes you say “Ooh!” when you open the invitation though is the gorgeous glitter-infused rose gold paper. It looked amazing in the sunlight at the orchard!

From Simply Gorgeous By Erin… I took inspiration from the gorgeous mixed metals used in the florals and tablescapes. I wanted the eyes to look like patina and antiqued golds and coppers so when the setting sun hit them their eyes would look like a sunset on the rooftops of Rome. Metallics are very sexy and always in style.

From Simply K Studios… Photographing this shoot was a dream. I love different textures, and there was no shortage of them between the florals, glitter-infused paper, metals, and fabrics. The play of soft fabrics and delicate florals against the harder metallics complimented the style and created an upscale twist, keeping the shoot fresh and modern. My ultimate goal was to capture genuine emotion between Chloe and Charles, as I do at every wedding I photograph.

From Kate Kudish, Events Director at Hickory Hill Orchards My family has owned and operated this historic fruit orchard for over 38 years in the Connecticut countryside. About two years ago, I realized Hickory Hill Orchards is an ideal setting for a quintessential New England wedding or event; nothing tops saying your vows in between white apple blossom trees in May or dancing under the stars with the scent of peaches in August. Our venue and family prides itself on the rustic yet well-maintained landscape architecture and the charming farm aesthetic. When we began ideating for the shoot, we wanted to show people that an orchard wedding is just as beautiful during the spring and summer blossom seasons as it is in the fall. 5th Avenue Weddings & Events, along with all of the talented vendors, helped to create our vision of an extremely elegant and upscale black tie affair.

Romantic Colonial Inspired Connecticut Wedding

Ashley Caroline knows the way to my nuptial devoted soul. Case in point? This oh-so-sweet snap of the Bride and her darling flower girl. I mean, that alone is enough to melt my heart! But the sweet moments don’t stop there m’dears, we’ve got even more pretty waiting for you in the gallery!

From Ashley Caroline PhotographySarah and Scott married in Sarah’s charming hometown in Connecticut surrounded by old colonial homes full of character. Their wedding had lots of personal touches but my favorites are the wildflower bouquets that the girls held, which Sarah collected the day before with a few added florals purchased. The flower girl was adorable with her dainty flower crown and the bridesmaids wore peach chiffon dresses in different styles. Sarah wore a delicate gold bracelet that Scott gifted her on the morning of with their wedding date inscribed. The groomsmen looked handsome in their black suspenders and grey pants and bow ties, which perfectly complimented the groom in his slim fit grey suit and narrow black tie. Sarah had an adorable braided updo and wore the biggest smile throughout the day.

The reception had unique signs and jars of honey with “W” tags, representing the groom’s last name. The cake was dressed in rosemary and topped with a “W” gold cake topper. More wildflowers decorated the room and it was lovely!

This wedding was a labor of love contributed by Sarah + Scott’s closest family and friends. Her sister designed the wedding invitations, her dad conducted the ceremony and her bridesmaid did Sarah’s beautiful makeup. I felt honored to be chosen as their photographer!

My favorite wedding day moment was when Sarah sat on a floral couch in the bridal suite and began reading her letter from Scott. In the envelope, he gifted her an inscribed necklace with their wedding date, 07262014. She wrapped the necklace around her wrist and wore it next to her initial bracelet, which she had also gifted to her bridesmaids. She read the letter to herself with a mixture of tears and laughter. She summed up her reaction in one sentence, “he’s been writing me this letter for years.” A true example of romance in this long distance relationship. I hid my eyes full of tears behind my camera and continued to click and blink them away.

From The Bride…Growing up in Connecticut, I have always loved the clean lines and simplicity of the colonial houses in my town. A lot of the planning was inspired by the venue – we wanted the aesthetic to feel fresh and simple. I have always loved how gorgeous the First Church of Christ is with stunning white and wooden pews. We did virtually no decorating at the church with the exception of a few flowers in the front, the church was so beautiful that I didn’t want to do anything to distract from it. I really loved the idea of keeping things simple and neutral and letting seasonal flowers and greenery introduce any color into the aesthetic.

We thrifted most of the decor for the wedding, buying many various glass vases from Goodwill and Salvation Army to hold the flowers at each table. We picked many of the flowers for the centerpieces ourselves from friends’ yards and gardens. Our wedding would not have been a success without the support and help of our friends and family. We were really blessed to have talented crew of family and friends willing to help! My sister designed the invitations and paper goods, a good family friend catered amazing fresh food sourced from seasonal ingredients, a friend did the floral arrangement, and my bridesmaids did my makeup! It was really great seeing how many people were willing to pitch in to make our day a success.

My favorite moment:

I can bring myself back to the moment that the gorgeous church doors opened. This is a moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life. All of the planning, and preparation of the wedding and of our hearts led up to this moment. The doors swung open, and I saw my best friend waiting for me at the end of the aisle. It felt so special to walk towards the love of my life as I walked by rows of family and friends there to support us as we committed the rest of our lives to each other. The best way that I can describe it is that it felt like a huge hug from everyone that I love and care about. It was incredible and made me feel so blessed! I would advise any bride to pause before walking down the aisle to take some time to soak in this moment – it is unforgettable.

Traditional Greek Wedding in Connecticut

Romantic? Well, that doesn’t even begin to describe this next lovely from D’Arcy Benincosa. It’s traditional elegance meets cultural significance and that m’dears is a surefire way to our wedding loving hearts. The gallery is bursting with beauty and you can see it all unfold, right here!

From the Bride… After nine years of being in a relationship Laz proposed in our favorite city, Chicago. It was one of the most exciting times in our lives, it was the day we had been waiting for a long time for. Exactly one year later I married my best friend on the most beautiful autumn day. The day was truly perfect from beginning to end.

Laz and I wanted our wedding day to be full of family and friends. Being from two large Greek families, our wedding was set to be a big affair. We had 280 guests who attended our wedding, many of which traveled near and far just to be able to spend the most important day of our lives with us.

Finding the perfect gown was truly an overwhelming experience. Unlike most brides who try on the first couple of dresses and fall in love right away, I did not experience this. During the dress searching period I tried on many gowns and I just never got that “it’s the one feeling”. It was five months before the wedding and I had to make a decision. Fortunately, I fell in love with my Anna Maier satin gown. On my wedding day I felt the most beautiful I have ever felt, and Laz looked especially handsome in a way I will always remember.

Being a person who loves designing and decorating I had a specific vision for the wedding. I wanted something unique but at the same time elegant and timeless. When we found Aria we knew it was the place where we wanted to have our reception. From the breath taking views and the elegant grand ballroom, the venue was exactly what we were looking for. When decorating I went with a cream, white, gold and blush palette to complement the elegant decor of the venue. Our flowers were a variation of tall and short full arrangements that complimented the venues high ceilings. Since, roses, hydrangeas and orchids are my favorite flowers and they are classic and romantic, I wanted them used throughout the entire décor. My two favorite pieces of decoration were the flower wall backdrop and the flower frame, they added a beautiful touch. The venue looked romantic and elegant just the way I envisioned it.

Coming from a traditional background my husband had one of the biggest surprises on our wedding day. Two of his uncles from Greece, who are famous musicians surprised him. They traveled all the way from Greece to be able to play at our wedding. My husband was in complete shock and joy at the same time. They played traditional music that our guests couldn’t get enough of. This was such a special moment during our reception that my husband still can’t get that surprise out of his mind.

We couldn’t have been more grateful for all the people who contributed to our wedding. Each person provided an outstanding service and their talents were truly remarkable. They helped us create the sweetest memories. I can’t help to think how lucky we were to have such wonderful people who supported us throughout this journey.

Our wedding day was filled with amazing food, good music, dancing, tradition, laughter and love. We had a smile on our faces the whole night. Looking back our wedding was unforgettable, we loved everything about our day and would not change a thing. It is true what they say- your wedding is the most memorable and happiest day of your life.

Elegant Fall Wedding at New Haven Lawn Club

Having met as students at Yale, these cuties kicked off the next chapter of their love story at the New Haven Lawn Club, an elegant, classic venue that became even more beautiful with their blush and gold decor and blooms by Fleur De Lys Floral. Robert and Kathleen Photographers worked their magic behind the lens and the final results are nothing short of stunning. See every moment right this way!

From Robert And Kathleen Photographers… Debbie and Todd met as Ph.D. students at Yale, pursuing degrees within the same concentration.  Enrolled in the same class, they became friends after discovering they had much in common beyond their shared interest in history and medicine.  They were both driven and determined, having spent much of high school and college studying with laser-sharp focus.  Reason and research came naturally to Debbie and Todd.  But back then, they both had yet to concur one of the most challenging pursuits known to man: romantic relationships.

Neither Debbie nor Todd had been in an official relationship before.  But when Debbie realized how strongly she felt about Todd, she set out to let him know how she felt.  She baked him brownies and trekked through the snow to deliver them in person.  She would sit for hours by Todd’s side watching basketball, a sport about which she didn’t much care.  Todd didn’t realize at first that these gestures were not merely friendly, but when he did he was thrilled to know that this friendship he had started to cherish could turn into something more.  Within a short time, they were a couple.

This year, Debbie and Todd made official what they each knew in their heart on the campus of Yale all those years ago: that they were meant to be together.  And they will be eternally grateful that their educational and professional aspirations led them to careers they love and a life made richer by one another’s company.

From Robert & Kathleen Photographers… Even though they met as college undergrads at UConn, Stacey and Pat had almost an old-fashioned courtship when they met up again years after graduation. They got to know each other slowly, thoughtfully, over the course of several evenings spread apart over a few months, like people would have in the days before text messaging and e-mails shortened the formality of communication.

It was UConn that brought them together once again for the first time after graduation, at an alumni happy hour in NYC. When their eyes met across the room, they each seemed familiar and brand new to one another all at the same time. It was as though they were suddenly seeing each another in a brand new light. Stacey was drawn to Pat’s relaxed, confident nature and easy-going personality. Pat was taken by Stacey’s bright smile and her excitement for life.

They would return to those happy hours every time one was scheduled, not making official plans to meet again but always being relieved to see one another’s face in the crowded bar when they arrived. They weren’t fully admitting that the one of the reasons they made it a point to attend was to see one another. Each time, they would talk a little longer and laugh a little harder than the time before. Pat had been hoping to ask Stacey out since that very first happy hour but had been hesitant to ask for her number for fear of ruining this good thing they were steadily building. The night he left the happy hour with her number programed into his phone, he was smiling as though it was the crowning achievement of his life.

Their first date was to PJ Clark’s where the sparks flew and a lively debate began about just which restaurant had the best burger in NYC. They planned their second date to try out Stacey’s favorite burger place. A third date followed shortly after and pretty soon Stacey and Pat were spending nearly all their free time together – cheering for opposing baseball teams in the summer, rooting for the Giants in the winter and together taking care of Stacey’s beloved dog, Tate. They tried more burgers, went on adventures and fell head over heels in love. Four short years after that first date, Pat asked Stacey to marry him.

When she said yes, he knew that was the true greatest moment of his life so far. That is, until their wedding day, when they returned to Connecticut. When they gathered their friends and family together in the state that ultimately brought them together. There, surrounded by all their family and friends, they became husband and wife. Safe to say that when Pat saw Stacey walking down the aisle to him, he was smiling even brighter than he was four years earlier when he walked out of a bar in NYC with the phone number of the prettiest girl he had ever seen and the inkling that maybe she was the one.

From the beautiful Bride… We met in college at the University of Connecticut, but it wasn’t until years later when we both moved to New York City that we’d run into each other at an alumni happy hour and see each other in a new light. We quickly realized we shared the same passions in life: career driven, family obsessed and always up for hosting a good party. A casual drink, led to a memorable date, and year after year of summers any place nautical and winters anywhere skiing, we knew there was no looking back.

We were together for 5 years when Pat proposed. His proposal was a perfect example of everything our relationship stood for. There was dinner, there was champagne, there was family, and there was Tate – our beloved puggle.

We went out for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, for what I thought was, to celebrate Pat passing the Series exams. While at dinner my sister had come by our apartment to put champagne on ice and secure the ring around Tate’s collar. She went back to her apartment and anxiously awaited our phone call.

When we arrived home from dinner our dog sprinted to the door to greet us, per usual, and when I noticed the ring, I looked over at Pat to find him down on one knee asking me to marry him. Before I could even grasp what was happening, I got down on one knee too to kiss him (and once I was able to stop crying, say Yes!).

We spent the next half hour calling each member of our family to share the exciting news. After we spoke to each of them, we poured a glass of champagne and before we could even finish it, there was a knock at the door. On the other side of the door awaited both of our entire families (all previously together laughing as I called each of them) with coolers of champagne ready to celebrate.

It was the most perfect night I could have ever imagined, surrounded by all the people we love most.

Working in Merchandising at Tiffany & Co., I am constantly surrounded by beautiful jewelry so clearly picking our wedding bands was one of my favorite parts. I’m a huge fan of mixing metals so decided to go with the new Soleste diamond band rings, in each metal (Platinum, Yellow Gold, Rose Gold) that I could stack together or wear separately. Pat opted for a traditional Platinum band, which I got engraved for him with our favorite quote.

By far my favorite part of the planning process was searching with my mom for the PERFECT wedding dress. We probably tried on every dress in Manhattan, and for a woman of many words, it was when she was finally drawn speechless that I knew we had found “the one.” My Oscar De La Renta gown had the most impeccable construction and remarkable textured ruffles that I instantly glowed every time I had it on. My mom and I kept the dress a secret from everyone until the day of the wedding, where we had so much fun with the big reveals!

My shoes were the perfect mix of classic but modern peep toes. The pale gold color and the pop of red soles went perfect with our color scheme, and the blue insoles doubled these shoes as my “Something Blue.”

Although I work in the jewelry industry, my most treasured piece of jewelry comes from my grandmother. A few years ago she designed a pair of earrings for me out of the diamonds from her engagement ring, which I always knew I would wear to my wedding, and that I will surely pass down to my children to wear to theirs. They were the most meaningful “Something Old” I could have ever asked for.

I wanted a simple hairstyle that would compliment the neckline of my dress and would stay in place throughout the night.

More importantly, I have to give a shout out to my sister who spent months prior to the wedding “training” her part to the opposite side so we can have different “good sides” in pictures. If that isn’t the meaning of the best maid of honor ever, I don’t know what is!

My beautiful eight bridesmaids are my best friends in the world and I really wanted them to stand out and look glamorous. I hunted for a while for the exact “pop of red” that would be the perfect amount of timeless glam and add a fun pop of color. Their look was completed with gold strappy shoes and their white bouquets had black and white stripped ribbon, tying their look in with the groomsmen.

I’ve spent most of my career in the fashion industry working at Ralph Lauren and Tiffany & Co. What I love about these companies is their long history of being timeless but finding ways to stay modern. In many ways this is what I love about Pat too. He’s an old school gentleman on one hand, but has such a passion for life, that can only be defined as modern. I adapted this concept as I came up with my vision to craft a look that would withstand time but with a modern twist. Think Gatsby meets Kate Spade.

The style for our wedding day truly reflected the two of us, combining New York glam with Connecticut prep. We kept the color pallet to black and white with gold accents and pops of red. We incorporated elements from our parent’s weddings by mixing a timeless look of bow ties, suspenders and top hats with modern patterns of stripes and polka dots.

Every detail had a significance behind it, which made it so much fun to plan—from Pat’s back Sperry’s and our vintage ski guest book, to the puggle peaking out of our wedding cake, and the late night snacks passed around in Mets/Yankee hats.

Modern Summer Wedding at the Wilton Riding Club

With linens from La Tavola, a gorgeous skylight tent from Stamford Tents, and, a private equestrian show at the Wilton Riding School, all brought together by True Event, you know you’re in for a real wedding treat! Photographed beautifully by Bruce Plotkin, click through the gallery here for some plum-infused pretty, and some serious love!

From the Bride… Most people think the fact that we share a name (Jaime and Jamie) or that we were set up by two famous Wall Street deal makers (Jamie Lee’s father, Jimmy Lee of JP Morgan and Jaime Foster’s friends Tracy and Frank Bisignano formerly of PS 41 and JP Morgan) is what makes our “story” unique but anyone who knows us, knows that it’s the way we clicked from day one that really set us apart.

We met on a blind date at the Jane Street Hotel in New York’s West Village and the date lasted close to 7 hours! After drinks, we continued our fluent and easy conversation over dinner at Del ‘Anima (also a favorite West Village spot) and then moved to Art Bar on 8th Ave for after dinner drinks. From the first conversation we felt totally at ease with each other. We have always been able to easily make each other laugh and fell in love within weeks of our first date.

After a surprise engagement in our apartment in SoHo, we celebrated with our families across the street at Galli Restaurant and flew to Hawaii the next day for a trip that turned out to be our “engagement-moon”!

When it came to planning the wedding we wanted to “marry” our love of the country with our respect for modern design. Having both been raised in historic homes in Fairfield County (Jamie Lee grew up in Darien CT, Jaime Foster Lee is from Wilton CT) we wanted to have a home-town wedding with a modern glamorous feel.

We chose the Lee’s new home on Contentment Island in the Tokeneke section of Darien as a perfect location for the Rehearsal Dinner and we selected the Wilton Riding Club for the wedding reception for its close proximity to the church (Sacred Heart Church in Georgetown CT) and because the location held so many childhood memories for the Foster family.

Once we decided on a rustic barn and horse-ring setting, we knew we needed help designing a look that would juxtapose vintage with modern and would make it feel elegant and beautiful. That’s where Sarah True and the True Event Team came in. We had chosen to use The Schoolhouse Restaurant in Cannondale as the caterer almost immediately (we have known Tim LaBant, the chef and owner since he played little league with the Foster girls in Wilton as a child) and Stamford Tents was a slam-dunk as we knew Ian Rangel and his team would be a perfect fit for us. We also chose the florist without contest as we have worked with Banchet at Banchet Flowers on many family weddings and events in the past and we knew her talent was unparalleled. Lastly we needed to secure the most important player of the Foster-Lee wedding team, the Priest. We were fortunate enough to find out after a funny email exchange or two that a friend of the Lees, Msgr. Robert Ritchie, the Rector of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City had agreed to officiate our wedding mass.

Over the next few months we planned the wedding, picked out china and did all the things couples do leading up to their wedding day-but most importantly Jamie Lee met weekly with Msgr. Ritchie and a month before the wedding he received the sacraments of Communion, Confirmation and Confession. As June 21st approached we were ready for our Big Day!

With the team in place True Event did an amazing job of bringing our vision to life! The clear Navi-Trac tent and the mix of mirrored bars and gold and silver accents on the chairs and tables brought a modern feel to a rustic setting! Banchet created a chandelier of orchids for the barn and each table was decorated with purple and white orchids, hydrangea and more! The final look was stunning.

For us, the most beautiful part of the wedding was how it turned into such a giant love-fest! Everyone was crying and laughing, singing and dancing together. From the Bridesmaid’s Luncheon at the Philip Johnson Glass house in New Canaan, CT to the Rehearsal Dinner on the water in Tokeneke to the wedding reception at the Wilton Riding Club-every moment and detail exceeded our expectations! The weather was gorgeous and looking back on it we wouldn’t change a thing!

Elegant Wedding on the Connecticut Shoreline

With ties to Paris and Connecticut, this couple blended the two in an elegant affair by the Connecticut shoreline. Jubilee Events helped with the finishing touches, and every detail, from the Bride’s dress from Everthine Bridal Boutique to the personalized invitations by French calligrapher Bernard Larboillat, is flawless! Take a peek at all the pretty captured by Tony Spinelli Photography right here!

From the beautiful Bride…We hired Candice Coppola of Jubilee Events to assist with design and coordination. We did a lot of legwork ourselves such as finding the venue, accommodation, photographer, caterer and music. Candice helped us find our last few vendors, managed our rentals and helped us develop and implement the design.

We spent about half the engagement planning. We did a lot of work immediately after we got engaged finding a venue and vendors and then things came in small spurts thereafter.

The Branford House is a beautiful property that is conveniently located in walking distance to my parent’s beach house. It was not the first place we looked but it was the one we choose. It was the perfect fit. It was on the shore with an amazing view and it could accommodate our guest list! We have spent many weekends on the Connecticut shore swimming, kayaking, sailing, running and biking, and it was the perfect place for us to get married.

I wanted to look classic, elegant, and understated and be comfortable! I tried on a bunch of wedding dresses both in stores and at home that I ordered online. I fell in love with my dress. It was an A-line cut. The bodice was structured lace with an illusion top with fabric so thin it looked like it was strapless with the lace climbing up. The skirt was chiffon and very lightweight. It was white. I wore a headpiece and a belt to embellish the look. For my shoes, I wore silver Varas. I custom ordered them so I even got my initials put on them. I wanted my shoes to be beautiful and comfortable.

For jewelry, I used earrings I already owned (a gift from my parents several years before) and wore my maternal great-grandmother’s rose gold watch that my dad had gotten restored for me. The clutch was by b.m.c. and I purchased it off Amazon.

I had five bridesmaids and one bridesman! I told the ladies to each find a gray dress of any shade, length, and design from J.Crew. For the bridesman, I asked that he wear a tux (of his choosing) and I got him gray paisley suspenders, socks and a bowtie from thetiebar.com. I told everyone to choose something they were comfortable with–they all selected their own accessories including shoes. I had very wonderful and beautiful people in my bridal party and I wanted them to be happy and comfortable! For hair and makeup, they each decided what they wanted.

We had our niece, Avery Kagan, was our flower girl. Her dress was purchased off dressale.com. She carried a basket of rose petals down the aisle. I decorated the basket (that I purchased from Michael’s) with Martha Stewart Crafts Vintage Specialty Girl Ribbon I bought off Amazon. The ring bearer was Marc’s second cousin, Cole Robertson. He wore a kilt in Robertson clan tartan (Marc’s mom’s family is of Scottish descent, the Robertsons), a sporran purchased from sportkilt.com and a Joey Couture tuxedo purchased on Amazon. Cole made it down the aisle… but not with anything in his hands!

From the Groom… There were five groomsmen. They all wore tuxedos. They were not required to have a particular brand and all but two owned one already, some had midnight blue and other black. I had a bespoke tuxedo made (with both black and ivory jackets) by W.W. Chan, done with grosgrain shawl lapels. My shirt, tie and cummerbund were also made by W.W. Chan. I wore Allen Edmond Vernon shoes in black with a bright polish and the overall package finished with a silver and mother of pearl stud set from Brooks Brothers. All the groomsmen wore Bresciani socks (I had pink ones!), and they all had skull and crossbones suspenders and pocket squares purchased from thetiebar.com (to mark our trip to the Carribean for the bachelor party). Each groomsmen finished their look with their own details such as different shoes and cufflinks.

From the Bride… Our second wedding was in Paris, France so the loose theme was Connecticut (my home and now our home) meets France (Marc’s father is French and Marc used to live and work in Paris). So for our Connecticut wedding we wanted to have a blend of Connecticut shoreline and Paris. I wanted a very neutral color palette; I didn’t want to be overpowered. I wanted the beauty and color to come from the flowers. Candice helped us develop a palette of white, blush, peach, khaki, mint and grey that were much more about showcasing the flowers. The design was really driven by Candice, and she really listened to what we wanted and developed the color story and feel of the event: elegant, simple and romantic.

For our save-the-dates, we used photos from our engagement shoot with Tony Spinelli and made postcards on WeddingPaperDivas.com.

The wedding invitation stationary was an original design by French calligrapher Bernard Larboillat. Bernard lives outside Paris and when Marc was working in France over the winter he brought me back a few of his cards because I love stationary. We loved his designs so much that we contacted him and Marc met with him a few times and he created this very unique invitation for us. He drew the view of Branford House and composed his drawing of letters and words of the item he was drawing. For example, the house was drawn using the letters “b” and “h”. We carried his design through a few elements of our wedding design such as the cocktail napkins (ordered from foryourparty.com with our custom design on them), our guest board and the groomsmans’s gifts.

From the Groom… The design also made it way into the groomsman’s gifts, which were laser etched solid wood wine cases with the Branford house and the wedding couple designs. Inside were the ingredients for my favorite drink, a Manhattan, along with home made maraschino cherries. I also etched a limerick to explain the contents on the inside of the case. Bernard also designed the invitations for our Paris wedding. We had everything printed locally at Minuteman Press in Hartford, CT.

From the Bride… For programs and menus, we used chalkboards with design by Molly Shanahan. The chalkboards displayed on easels and were adorned with garlands from Just For You Floral.

For our escort cards, I used tags from paperpresentation.com and my mom (who has excellent handwriting) wrote out all the names. The Jubilee Events team attached fresh lavender with twine to each card. They escort cards were left on a whitewash barrel bar with flowers, garland and antique family silver trays.

We had 42 inch wide banquet tables and our meal was served family style so the goal of the table centerpieces were to be beautiful but leave plenty of room for platters and bowls and cutting boards. I wanted the simple, elegant and romantic vibe to come through. Jane of Just for You made every table and centerpiece look a little bit different. Each table had a mixture of arrangements with different flowers (many of the flower types used in the bouquets), in varying sizes and containers (antique glass vases, silver cups, trays, etc.). The linens were camel with white napkins and the chargers gold. Table numbers were simply displayed with cards on stands. Everything was very simple. The idea was beautiful but functional–lots of room for food! Food being part of the beauty!

During dinner we challenged guest tables to sing us love songs (as a group) if they wanted us to kiss (instead of the traditional clinking of the glasses). Shockingly almost every table participated! We got the range from Frank Sinatra to Salt-N-Pepa! Between guest tables singing and speeches, we had on some background music during dinner. For dancing, the Nu-Cullers did what they do best– a mix of pop, soul and mo-town! My father-daughter dance was to “My Girl” and Marc’s mother-son dance was to “Into the Mystic”. The band even played a great version of Hava Nagila.

Preppy Backyard Wedding

I may have mentioned a time or two (read: one million) that Father of the Bride is one of my all-time favorite movies, but when I see a sweet affair like this gorgeous CT wedding, it’s definitely worth repeating. Preppy meets classic, this is a day that is overflowing with amazing details; from the lush blooms from KD&J Botanica to the sweet blue hues.  See it all captured by IRIS Photography right here

Backyard

From IRIS PhotographyPreppy backyard tented wedding in Fairfield County CT with splashes of verdant color–from vintage 1940s Packard woody sedan in jade to bright yellow soup, variegated green floral arrangements, and blues and pinks–all in a relaxed Sperry Tent reception in the bride’s parents’ home at the start of summer. Talented vendors include Sperry Tents Greenwich (LBB member), Marcia Selden Catering, KD&J Botanica, IRIS Photography (LBB member).

From The Bride…Richard and I met while we were both living in New York City. I was working in finance and he was getting his masters at Columbia. After meeting through mutual friends at what became one of our favorite local dive bars, The Back Fence, the rest, as they say, is history.

I am still surprised at how painless and enjoyable it was to plan our wedding. I chalk it up to both of us being on the same page from the very beginning, and to both our parents, who went above and beyond to make the weekend wonderful. When Richard and I started talking about our wedding, we agreed right away on what was most important to us: 1) That the wedding be held somewhere meaningful to both of us 2) That we would do whatever it took to secure our most favorite band – Party on the Moon 3) That we would ask our good friend, Reverend Brooks Hundley, with whom Richard worked at Saint Albans School in D.C. to officiate the wedding 4) That our wedding be all about having fun. With those priorities set, the other details fell into place seamlessly.

I owe so much to my parents for how our wedding day turned out. It was actually my father’s idea for us to get married in my parent’s backyard. I originally hesitated when he first proposed the idea… we’ve all seen George Banks’ historic meltdown in Father of the Bride… but my Dad assured me he would have fun with the process and he did. Both he and my Mom worked tirelessly, without a wedding planner, to secure the right vendors and coordinate all the details taking much of the stress away from me and Richard.

Our wedding day ended up being even more beautiful, fun, and special than we ever could have hoped. We were blessed with perfect summer weather; thoughtful and witty speeches from my father and our brothers, an epic dance floor thanks to Party on the Moon’s unforgettable performance and our friends and family getting their rage on, delicious food from Marcia Selden Catering, and the most enchanting ambiance provided by Sperry Tents and KD&J Botanica.
