Punta Cana Oceanside Destination Wedding at La Cana Golf Club

Juan and Edna’s wedding day celebration was a culmination of high school sweetheart love to a long-distance challenge while Juan served as a Marine to a Today Show proposal. As someone who married my own college sweetheart who serves in the military—I feel the most meaningful connection to these two and know that their bond is so, so powerful because of it. Today, we get to play virtual guests to their Big Day, planned by CM Events and Design and captured by Asia Pimentel.

From CM Events and Design… Edna and Juan are high school sweethearts. They went to Eastside High and call their love story an “Eastside Love Story”. After high school, Juan went off to the Marines and Edna stayed in New Jersey attending college. Once Juan completed 4 years in the Marines, he returned to New Jersey and pursued his dream of becoming a firefighter. Juan surprised Edna with a proposal, live on the Today Show!. Fast forward to the wedding weekend in the Dominican Republic.

Juan’s family is from the Dominican Republic and Edna’s family is from El Salvador. They knew they wanted a destination wedding and the Dominican Republic just seemed like the perfect destination to bring everyone together. Working with the planning and design team from CM Events and Design, Edna and Juan celebrated the weekend with about 60 of their closest friends and family at Punta Cana Resort and Club.

The bride wanted vintage details incorporated throughout the wedding, so for the invitations, the bride had custom newspapers designed and printed that included information about the weekend, their proposal and fun information about the couple.

Puntacana Resort & Club is home to the Caribbean’s ultimate beach and golfing experience, with 3 miles of magnificent white sand beaches and 45 holes of championship golf. The understated elegance and timeless vision of Oscar de la Renta, which defines the uniquely Dominican experience of staying at Puntacana Resort & Club, makes it a favorite and was the perfect location to host their sophisticated wedding celebration.

For the design, the bride wanted to incorporate two of her favorite colors, blush and dusty blue while still keeping the design romantic and timeless. Although the white sand beaches at the venue are some of the most beautiful in the world, the couple wanted to use the beach and the Caribbean Sea as a backdrop and opted to have a ceremony on the grass. The planning and design team had a custom arch built so that the simple ceremony space would have a statement design piece. White rose petals filled the aisle and white chivari chairs completed the ceremony space. Special touches during the ceremony were the flower girl wagon that carried the bride’s niece, the violinist and the vows that Edna and Juan wrote.

After the ceremony, guests were greeted with custom monogrammed coconuts; chilled coconut water was the perfect refreshment. To find their seats, guests found their place on the custom-built escort display wall which held vintage keys and name tags tied with hand died silk ribbon. The reception was held on the upper level of La Cana Golf and Beach Club on their Spanish Patio. The couple wanted an open-air feel with views of the beach and sea. The florals and decor included linen and table runner drape by BBJ, lounges with compote arrangements, gold rim chargers, taper candles, low centerpieces filled with garden roses and designed by Katie of Bloom 52. The open-air terrace was decorated with hanging bistro lights and smilax, and trees were added to the terrace area to transform the space as well. Other special touches included a cigar bar, a simply frosted fresh floral Dominican cake and a signature drink called the Yoshito named after their dog Yoshi which was given to Edna by Juan while he was deployed.

This is EXACTLY How You Say “I Do” in Paradise

This forever winter has us dreaming of days spent lounging on warm beaches, soaking in the rays and sipping cocktails with our besties. A little bit like Sarah and Matthew’s amazing celebration at Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa. Along with 65 of their closest friends and family, this gorgeous duo ventured from North Carolina to party the night away in paradise (aka, the Caribbean), complete with a giant cut-out of their fur baby. Warm your hearts in the full gallery captured Punta Cana Photographer.

From Punta Cana PhotographerSarah and Matthew decided to venture from North Carolina to get married at a gorgeous resort located on the pristine beaches of CapCana. Surrounded by 65 of their closest family and friends, they enjoyed every minute of the celebration.

The day started early for us, when we headed to Matthew’s room to enjoy the fun moments that were taking place at Matt’s hectic getting ready. With people running all over the place and the guys enjoying a few drinks, everything was set for a good day. Things simply got better when we saw Sarah’s happiness shining through her eyes before getting her dress on.

The location they picked couldn’t be any better for an intimate ceremony by the shore at Secrets CapCana. Minutes before the ceremony, Sarah’s dad almost made us cry with his tears, and a unique reaction that we love to see when a proud dad sees her daughter about to get married. It’s something we cannot explain with words.

Sarah & Matthew’s friends rocked the day with their smiles, inside jokes and their patience! Hey, it’s not easy to take pictures under the strong Caribbean sun, even in winter. At night, everybody took their shoes off and danced like there was no tomorrow. We hope you enjoy looking at the photos as much as we did while capturing them.

From the Bride… Tom and I met back in university at a Christian conference and were re-introduced to each other by his sister, Candice, and my good friend, Reggie, 10 years later. He lived in Little Rock, Arkansas, and I was in Toronto, Ontario, so we added each other on Facebook and began to get to know each other. It took four months of Facebook Messenger and texting on the phone before we went on our first official date over the Christmas holidays in 2013. His ability to do muscle-ups on gymnastics rings at the rock climbing facility we went to for one of our dates totally won me over! We became official in the new year and began our journey being in a long distance relationship. We made it a promise to make plans to see each every two to three months, so then began our adventures: surfing in Costa Rica, driving along the West Coast and taking hikes under the giant Redwood trees, experiencing my first real southern barbecue in Memphis, and leaving our mark outside Elvis’ home. It soon became evident we wanted to go on many adventures together for the rest of our lives.

Tom proposed to me the following year on Christmas Day, and the first challenge we faced was where to have the wedding. Having witnessed many local weddings being a wedding planner myself, I didn’t want to have a conventional wedding in a banquet hall, so we decided to look into more fun destinations and ended up choosing Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. I came across Mayte and Natalia’s work through a local photographer and knew I could trust them fully with bringing my vision to life. I chose the venue because of the planners, and boy did they deliver. Floating floral arrangements over our tables, lace and pearl accents on dinner napkins, chandeliers and beautifully decorated statement doors… The list goes on. Every single detail was on point, and we were beyond impressed with how they transformed the restaurant and beach into the most beautiful venue any bride could ever imagine. We didn’t have to deal with other hotel guests standing around peeping in on our wedding ceremony and reception. It felt so intimate (even with 80 guests) and romantic just doing our own thing.

Leading up to the trip, my family and bridesmaids worked like busy bees to make DIY flower crowns and various elements of our welcome bags which included everything from sunblock and lip balm to emergency hangover kits and spicy Ramyun noodles for a late night snack. My good friend, Sarah, designed my beautiful welcome bag graphics all by hand and managed to pull off a last minute request to create a passport booklet so all our guests had an idea as to what to expect for the week.

Tom and I wanted to make the most of our time on the island with our family and friends, so we booked a boat trip excursion a day before our wedding so everyone could get to know one another and just have an amazing time exploring the sea. The day after our wedding, we took our photographers and videographers with us to a nearby waterhole for a trash the dress session. Can I just say, waterproof makeup is one of the best inventions out there? Jumping in the water multiple times proved no challenge for my flawless makeup, thanks to my incredibly talented makeup artist, Christine. Our photos from that afternoon are to die for!

As we look back on the photos from our wedding week, our hearts are filled with so much joy and happiness. We are so thankful to all our families, friends and wedding “friendors” who came all the way to the Dominican Republic to make our wedding week so special. We would do it all again in a heartbeat. Maybe a 20-year vow renewal? We’ll see.

Embracing Beach Glamour on the Shores of Punta Cana

This wedding is bringing all the romance and glamour to the shores of Punta Cana and to say it’s a true beauty would be an understatement. Crafted by Claire Duran Weddings And Events along with palm tree dotted imagery by Asia Pimentel Photography, peek inside a celebration that marries a tropical locale with a stunning alfresco affair. Plus, find even more right here in the vault.

From the Bride…Washington, DC – world’s melting pot – is where a girl from Peru met a guy from New York and their happily ever after began. On May 5th 2016, Jack proposed at top of Huayna Picchu, located in the Cusco Region, after a beautiful hike up. He proposed with the ring that his father gave to his mother when he proposed in 1968. It was beautiful! More than I ever dreamed it would be!

My now Husband and I love to get away, be in the sun- and we figured what better way to celebrate our marriage than surrounded by our family, friends, and the warm culture of the Dominican Republic. We were told 30% of invites don’t come through to destinations weddings, and much to our pleasure we had a 90% return rate on acceptances and over 100 guests. Family and friends from New York, Washington DC, and Peru.

The day itself, was so much fun to be able to do the bridal get-ready suite, the last-minute details from flowers to my 6 year old niece’s flower basket, all in the context of the Caribbean sea and a resort where everyone was having fun. Jack swam out to a reef with his best friend from college/high school the day of our wedding (and even returned!!) and my mother in law played tennis and swam until it was time for hair and make-up. When getting married here, we enjoyed a beautiful view of turquoise colored waters, white sand beaches, and beautiful sunsets. This location was picture perfect! For us, warm tropical weather and an ocean view created the perfect setting. In fact, everything about this location in general is romantic in nature. I wanted a classic and romantic feel, soft muted neutrals with lots of greenery, and the backdrop for our ceremony was the beautiful Caribbean Sea, couldn’t have asked for a better setting.

Romantic Beach Wedding in the Dominican Republic

Thanks to Clary Pfeiffer Photography we’re going on an imaginary vacation. So pack some SPF because this tropical getaway is searing with stunning. Complete with a beautiful shoreside ceremony, we’re confident that you’re going to get completely swept away in the pretty. It’s the type of sandy toe celebration that you’ll want to dive right into, and thankfully you can do just that in THE VAULT!

From Clary Pfeiffer Photography… Nidia and Sam’s wedding day was one of the most memorable weddings I’ve photographed so I’m very excited to be sending this submission your way today. The couple are both from the Dominican so when deciding where to have their celebration it was easy for them to come up with a location. The beauty of photographing a destination wedding is you get to meet a couples closest love ones and hear personal stories about the couple. Nidia and Sam truly are special people!! Their wedding was gorgeous with an ocean view and when the sun set and the dancing started it was so much fun! They had sparklers for the first dance and then surprised all their guest with “Crazy Hour” where amazing dancers came out to dance with everyone.

From The Bride…Our story began seven years ago; eyes meeting across the dance floor, bodies moving to the latest bachatas, and lips promising to meet again despite an undeniable tipsiness. History repeated itself on June 13, 2015 as Samuel and I stepped onto the dance floor, but this time for our wedding.

Samuel and I both love the sea, our culture, and our beach vacations, so it was only logical that we would choose Punta Cana as our wedding destination. We are both from the Dominican Republic, so having our wedding there was more than ideal.

We wanted a wedding that brought together little pieces of what makes us us: rustic, serene, glam, romantic, with touches of dominican culture. We did a lot of research and found all of these elements at the gorgeous Huracan Cafe.

Huracan Cafe has a beach hut vibe enhanced by its white sands, mint blue waters, and the magic touch of wedding planners Mayte and Nati. These elements moved in perfect harmony during our wedding ceremony. The wedding party’s mint blue and natural linen ensemble were an extension of the beautiful beach backdrop. The touches of green decorating the beach chairs and ceremony gazebo complemented the surrounding palm trees. The gold details on the cocktail lounge and reception area were a compliment to the beautiful golden light seeping through the palm trees. Lastly, the crystal chandelier and splashes of pink softened the surroundings to balance the romantic with the serene.

We were mesmerized by the beauty of it all and before we knew it we were standing on the dance floor, ready for our first dance. We wanted to bring in cultural elements to the celebration, so we chose a song from bachata singer Juan Luis Guerra titled “Mi Bendicion”, “My Blessing”. We followed the dances with “La Hora Loca” or “Crazy Hour”, bringing everyone to their feet with folkloric beats and dance moves. We danced, we moved, we drank. By the end of the night, we once again made tipsy promises, remembering seven years of history as we moved to the beat of our favorite bachata songs.

Romantic + Tropical Dominican Republic Wedding

To say that this next lovefest from Shoebox Photography is perfect in every. single. way. would be an understatement. A tropical paradise complete with almond trees and an exquisite villa, it’s a daydream come to life. From the Bride’s beautiful lace gown, to the pretty pink accents, every detail is one to cherish.

Villa

From the beautiful Bride… When my husband proposed to me, besides being completed shocked and crying hysterically, the first thought I had was the two of us kissing under the trees. Robin is from Denver, Colorado and I am from the Turks and Caicos Islands. Two places known for being beautiful wedding destinations but this did not help us when picking where to have our special day. We wanted somewhere different for all of our friends and family. We wanted somewhere they could all come together, have an adventure, and make great memories. We found it when we traveled to Punta Cana.

When we first walked into Villa Las Arenas I was blown away by the beauty of this home. The courtyard was lined with Dominican almond trees and had Chicago brick leading up to this archway that welcomes you to the exquisite villa. Besides the obvious Caribbean and English influence (which I adored!) we also fell in love with the people there. Everyone at Villa Las Arenas was so welcoming we felt like family. I couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else!

We returned a few months later to say our vows under the almond trees this time surrounded by all of our dearest friends and loved ones. Robin has a very big family from Colorado and mine is a small English family but it was important to us both to have everyone together as one family. Robin had two of his brothers in the wedding: Sean, as his best man and Andy as his groomsmen. I had both of my sisters in the wedding: Courtney (Coo) as my maid of honor and Laura (Loo) as my matron of honor. My beautiful and scrumptious niece Liv Marloe was my flower girl and undoubtedly stole the show! My mother, Gillian and Robin’s father, Rick gave speeches during our ceremony and my dad, Ian walked me down the aisle. The morning of the wedding I gave each member of our wedding party a small gift to remember the day and to say thank you for being the most important people in our lives. For Robin and I family is everything and we wanted to give everyone a little gift to show how much we love them.

For my husband I had a few special surprises. The first was my wedding gift to him a new watch to wear on the day. The second was a pocket watch with an engraving of the poem we had in our ceremony by Tyler Knott Gregson and a picture of his mother in side to wear close to his heart. The third was when he walked down the aisle! When Robin walked down the aisle the DJ played Otis Redding – Love Man!! Its one of my favorite songs and I think it describes him perfectly! I didn’t get to see the expression on his face for any of these surprises but I think Melinda and Rob (Photographers) and Diego and Juan (Videographers) captured it perfectly!

The day went perfectly. Our florist Celia made the whole space feel like a dream. The archway was covered in white peonies, roses and garlands of eucalyptus. Our florist also made a small baby’s breath crown for my niece to wear. Liv decided she didn’t want to wear it so later in the night my sisters put the crown on me which was a really fun and random addition to the night. Our planner really captured everything we asked for and put up with a thousand emails from me daily! I wanted blush and neutral tones for our wedding party with romantic florals and a lot of greenery. Robin wanted something more formal and traditional which I think we were able to do too. Music played all day long a mix of reggae, romantic, and oldies. Even our food was out of this world! Chef Pitiri really went all out from the hors d’oeuvres to the dinner, to the midnight empanadas (a secret family recipe).

Our venue was amazing and all of the staff there were so helpful especially Paola, the concierge. I would recommend our villa to anyone for a wedding or a family vacation. In fact, my family wants to go back every year! I am a crafter by heart but my family insisted that I do not attempt to DIY my own wedding. Oh ye of little faith! Instead I took it upon myself to do all the stationary and the playlists for the whole day. We bought a beautiful design for our invitations and I duplicated those throughout the wedding. The welcome sign at the entrance of the villa and the smaller frames with our favorite song lyrics really helped to make it feel more like us. One of my favorite things was to put “You look wonderful tonight” in the ladies bathroom. Eric Clapton’s song was played when I danced with my dad and I was hoping it would make all the ladies feel great because honestly they all looked amazing!

Its true what they say about your ceremony going in the blink of an eye! I do not remember what I said or what happened the only thing I recall with clarity is my husband vowing to always protect me. I have never been more in love with him in that moment. It felt as though it was just the two of us under the trees. I have been told there was a lot of laughter and a lot of happy tears. My husband likes to describe our love as a special love and I think that’s what everyone felt that day. All we wanted for our day was great tunes and amazing food, to be surrounded by nature, to have our friends and family around us and more than anything, each other. I think we got it and then some. We have been friends for a decade and have been in love for 7 of those years. Our wedding was just another wonderful day in my life with Robin.

From the Bride… Drew and I were introduced by friends at a University of Alabama football game and became engaged in December 2011 after both moving to Colorado. Being from Alabama but living in Colorado for the past few years, the idea of planning a wedding back home in Alabama was overwhelming. We did not want our guests to travel to Colorado for just a short weekend. This led us to the idea of a destination wedding. A week of relaxing and vacationing with our close friends and family sounded like a fantastic idea. In addition, Drew’s and my family had never met. So we chose Thanksgiving week to spend together as new, larger family.

Our only regret with the destination wedding was that we knew not all of those important to us would be able to travel. It was indeed a smaller, more intimate wedding. The wedding was planned almost entirely by email with the resort wedding coordinator. She was incredibly patient with my million questions. In many ways, our wedding was truly a friends and family affair. A friend designed our wedding invitations. Another friend was our wedding photographer and resident Colorado advisor for dress shopping and all things wedding related. My mom embroidered and sewed the table runners, chair signs, banners and table numbers. Drew’s mom and sister brought other fun, personal touches for the table settings. Even our friends who arranged our introduction were able to attend, and his wife applied my makeup.

I had always wanted to get married on a beach but wanted to bring a rustic, Southern flare to our beach wedding. We were able to do this with lots of monogramming, lace, candles and embroidered burlap décor made by my mom. We chose lots of greens as accent colors to make it fun and festive.

The beach wedding ceremony was a little windy, but everything was perfect nonetheless. Because of the weather report, the reception was moved from poolside to a covered pool and beach-side open air restaurant, Castaways. It was meant to be and turned out beautifully! Good times, good food and a lot of dancing. With a great deal of help from friends and family, we successfully pulled off the rustic beach elegance I was going for!

Heartfelt Punta Cana Elopement

The powerful love that these two have for each other, made my heart swell and my eyes well with tears mere seconds into their powerful elopement film from PF Films. Happy tears, because Amber and John’s strength is awe-inspiring to say the least. With Amber facing a diagnosis of breast cancer, they chose to dive into the struggle head first, together, and this is their story.

[iframe http://player.vimeo.com/video/105889887 600 338]

From PF FilmsWe sometimes get requests for weddings that simply melt our hearts. About 2 weeks prior to this event we received a touching letter from Amber looking to film her last minute elopement to John. Amber was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. There wasn’t a big bridal party, fancy venue with bright lights, or a huge Dance Party. There was Amber, her fiancé John, and us. Of course not to mention the incredible scenery of Punta Cana.

This story is the single most powerful film we have worked on.

Elegant Punta Cana Wedding at Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe Hotel

This couple took their destination wedding, sprinkled in a whole lot of romance and covered it in a beautiful pink hue – leaving us with a wedding so gorgeous we could spend our entire day getting lost in Jen + Ashley‘s images. Planned and hosted by the gorgeous Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe Hotel, Punta Cana, we pretty much love every image sitting in this gallery.

From Jen + AshleyWe are SO excited to send over this elegant and chic, garden destination wedding! Kim + Clark both live in Chicago, but wanted their wedding to be a celebration not only for them, but for their closest friends and family in a tropical paradise to give all of their guests a chance to step back from the hustle and bustle of city life. With fun activities planned all week, including a catamaran voyage with fresh coconut drinks and dinner served on the sea, they truly wanted their guests to be able to experience all that the gorgeous Punta Cana has to offer. Not wanting their destination wedding to be too “beachy”, they opted for a gorgeous, intimate garden setting on the grounds of the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe hotel, with swaying palm trees and wild peacocks roaming during their heartfelt and sweet ceremony. With their open-air reception space draped in perfect white linens, a whimsical ombre cake, and just the right amount of pink spread around the room, the setting tied in perfectly to the lush gardens that surrounded the venue.

From The Bride…Effortlessly beautiful, an intimate natural setting and a party of a lifetime is what we wanted to accomplish. This celebration was by nature, a celebration of our love, but just as equally important, a celebration of the love and support of the friends & family around us who made a huge effort to be there. The night needed to reflect our appreciation for every single person who put their life on hold to be with us, and I feel confident we successfully created memories of a lifetime by measure of the tears shed that evening and the dancing had that night on the sand, complete with an hour of fire spinners, merengue dancers, acrobats, men on stilts and lots of confetti!

We knew we wanted to spend an entire week with our friends and family as oppose to a single day which is famously known to be very chaotic and nerve-wrecking, hence the decision of a destination wedding. Staying at a resort offered the convenience we were looking for, but did not exude the atmosphere we wanted for our wedding day. It needed to represent our personalities, and instantly fell in love with a stunning rustic beach bar venue I fell upon during an online search.

Joel being from ‘the sticks’ in Eastern Canada, and myself having had travelled the World and lived in 4 different countries, we decided on Bohemian Vintage, with a touch of rustic :) Our beautiful and exceptional wedding coordinator, Mayte, realized our vision perfectly, and went above and beyond. She was so excited about our vision considering our styles were very similar, she went as far as bringing her personal home decor to our wedding!!!!! I told her we could have simplified everything and have gotten married in her living room lol. Each table had it’s unique spin, and had plenty to stimulate the senses!

The WTOO bridesmaid dress palette turned out beautiful. I wanted a soft romantic beachy breezy look, but also knew I wanted different shades of colors. The girls could wear whichever nude shoes and earrings they preferred. We kept arms and neck bare, following the less is more concept! Joel and I saved quite a bit of money by ordering dried and bleached baby’s breath flowers for the girls, and handmade boutonnieres for the men on Etsy. The bouquets wraps were each individualized (by Mayte) with a piece of excess fabric and jewels from my dress.

Both my grandmothers passed during the same month in the previous year, and I wanted them to walk me down the aisle, therefore pinned a charm of each of them on my bouquet. Another small yet impactful detail was to present each of our mothers a small & elegant bouquet of flowers, with our baby pictures pinned on each.

My dress was a little dramatic for the beach, but it somehow worked. I bought it at a really great price from a local wedding boutique owned by an old family friend (the owner used to buy chicken from my grandmother as a child). I had it altered down to my size and created more of a plunge in the back. It had that vintage / boho look I was going for, with a touch of glam, and I absolutely loved it.

We kept everything a surprise, including the venue. The guest only knew to be ready for a shuttle pick up at the lobby for 4:15pm. They didn’t know where they were going or how far they were driving…and they were great sports about it! The reaction was amazing when they stepped into the venue.

Our wedding party left slightly earlier. Once we hit the dirt road leading up the venue, the shuttle stopped and the bridesmaids kicked the groomsmen out. While the boys figured we were stopping for photos, seven local ‘motoconchos’ showed up, signalled for them to hop on the back, and sped off, dirt and all, to the venue. This was all the more hilarious since most of the groomsmen drive high powered speed bikes and motorcycles! They thoroughly enjoyed it and had a really good laugh.

We wanted the music to be a BIG part of the evening and had a cousin bring his guitar to play during the seating and welcome cocktail prior to the ceremony. Everyone enjoyed him so much he played during our cocktail hour as well. Another very personalized and memorable detail was having one of the groomsmen, an exceptional singer/guitar player, play our first dance while we danced in awe barefoot on the beach surrounded by our favourite people, the waves and an ocean breeze. It was all very overwhelming to say the least.

Then the party began…..and shirts came off!

In closing, we would not have been able to relive this day over and over again if it weren’t for our amazing photographers Melinda and Rob from Shoebox Photography who rarely missed a moment and captured every detail of the day and night. We loved them.

From Shoebox Photography…What can be said about their day that could possibly describe it best? The bridal party were stunning, due to the lovely and talented Anna Nuet, the guys were a fantastic representation of what fun should be. This was a group of family and friends whose sole purpose was to see these two get wed in style and send them into marriage with a bang.

Mayte and the Jellyfish staff always create a stunning setting but this one was above and beyond. The sheer detail in this bohemian chic & vintage theme was a photographers dream. The ceremony was sweet and funny as it always is with Pastor Rick York presiding & had a unique touch, a handmade wine box with the inscription ‘You’ll be my glass of wine. I’ll be your shot of whiskey.’ France & Joel locked inside a very special bottle along with the notes they wrote each other just a few hours earlier. Down the road, they’ll unlock the box when they really need the wine and notes inside! One of the most touching moments through tears by the groom as his beautiful bride walked towards him.

The day and night were filled with beautifully funny speeches, and even a very special appearance by Batman. After having spent an entire day with the group it all made sense, stories that started the day as crazy were very believable by the days end. The back story with Batman is that it’s a bit of an obsession for our spotlight fanatic groom. Who at times, rephrase, every chance he can, likes to dress up in a Batman costume ( usually under the influence ) and bring his brand of happiness to all. However on his wedding night the brides incredibly awesome mom stole the show when she surprised everyone by storming the event as the Batman theme song suddenly poured through the speakers. Hilarious, and utterly shocking for both the bride + groom as they had no idea who it was. Such a high note in my books. Oh, that and the duet of Ricky Marten’s Livin’ la Vida Loca. That too was a moment where we seriously thought we were going to drop our cameras in fits of laughter.

The drinks were flowing, the dancing was fierce, fuelled by the talented ‘crazy hour’ crew that presented their iconic fire show, merengue dancers, a capoeira performer and intricately costumed devils and clowns to kick things off right. The night took it’s final turn and depending on which side you were on ( ever been one of the only sober people at a crazy party? ) the shirts and pants started to fly as they fired down shots on their sandy dance floor by the beach. It was with a heavy heart that we packed up our gear, having to turn down numerous requests to keep gettin’ our dance on.
sometimes babies suck.

France and Joel will forever be in our hearts, it was such a memorable day spent with remarkable people.

Fairytale destination wedding at Huracan Cafe Punta Cana by ShoeBox Photography

A fairytale in every sense of this word, this destination wedding captured by ShoeBox Photography and planned by Amore Weddings is what my dreams our made of. Not only is this couple step-out-of-a-magazine gorgeous, but every image sitting pretty in this gallery defines beach chic, making me one seriously happy blogger today. See it all here

From ShoeBox PhotographyThis destination wedding was held in Punta Cana’s Huracan Cafe, a beautiful little beach hang out bar that is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after wedding venues on the island. I hope you love the images from Chanel + Juan’s big day as much as we do. It was a fairytale come to life for our beautiful couple.

From The Bride…A wedding in New York City was never an option for me; I always imagined my toes in the sand with a beautiful tulle train flowing behind me. Most importantly I always imagined a weekend of fun activities, tanning, drinking, and eating with our closest family and friends. Once I got engaged that’s exactly what I planned for. My wedding weekend began with an arrival to Punta Cana or as I call it “The Mother Land”. We decided to host our wedding weekend at the Hard Rock Punta Cana and let me just say it was nothing short of a blast. The day before the wedding we welcomed our guest with a private white party by one of their breathtaking pools. As a token of our appreciation each guest received a welcome bag with some useful goodies, whether they drank too much, tanned too much, or ate too much we had them covered.

Choosing a wedding location was the hardest task; I knew a casual beach wedding just wasn’t for me. I wanted to create a formal wedding while still keeping my toes in the sand. I also knew I didn’t want limitations from a resort and I wanted to party all night long. Going offsite and getting married with an independent venue was the best decision I could’ve made. Huracan Café is a beautiful rustic café nestled right off the coast, once I found this hidden gem that had just hosted one wedding prior I emailed Natalia + Mayte. They are amazing wedding planners with hearts of gold. The email went something like this “ Hi, if you can give me a lighted chandelier on the beach the job is yours…” To my delight they gave me that and much more, how about five chandeliers on the beach. I cried in Natalia’s arms when I walked into my wedding, the magic they created I simply cannot put into words.

Our ceremony was simple, understated, and breathtakingly beautiful. The sun was setting and the ocean breeze would occasionally run through my hair. We didn’t realize this till it was over but we held hands throughout the whole ceremony, with 62 guest it still felt like it was just us two up there.

Chandeliers, sparkle, tulle, candles, and love are the ingredients I needed for an unforgettable wedding and that’s exactly what I got. Although the details of my day kept changing there was one thing I knew for sure, I wanted to feel romanced on the beach. Five lighted chandeliers on the beach, a beautifully draped ceremony arch, and candles galore lend themselves to be the perfect backdrop for the overflowing abundance of love my husband and I felt for each other and from our guests. Dancing under a beautiful chandelier with views of the stars, the ocean breeze through may hair, and my husband’s tears on my shoulder while “All of me” by John Legend played is a moment I’ll never forget.

We are so grateful for all the amazing vendors who played such huge roles in our special day. Now that it’s all over we feel so fortunate to have been able to work with all these amazing people who have become part of our family, especially our wedding planners. Natalia + Mayte transformed my emails into my dream day. The genuine love they have for their jobs poured out of every space and every detail. Our photographers captured, every tear, every smile, and every single ounce of love displayed that day. Our pictures are a magical reminder of our perfect day and a way to relive moments I missed. Everyday I look at my pictures and get to see my daughter who was also my flower girl, walk down the aisle with eyes filled with love and excitement.

Colorful Beach Wedding at Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana

Take some vibrant (+ gorgeous) hues and mix them with the breathtaking paradise better known as Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana and it’s what we call beyond awesome. Now add in a stunning ceremony overlooking crystal blue waters, sand frolicking and a week-long vaca with friends and family and, well… destination perfection.  See it all captured by 1001 Photography right here.

From The Bride… The day I met Pat, I instantly fell in love with him. His laid-back personality resembled mine so much. He was silly, adorable and so much fun to be around. We became close very fast and just after few months we moved in together. It didn’t take much for us to realize that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.

We knew from the start that we wanted a destination wedding. We wanted a location where everyone could come together, relax, and celebrate with us. We wanted it to be personal, yet casual, simple, and easy. So the search began. After going through 40 different resort reviews and quotes we decided that Dreams Palm Beach in Dominican Republic was the resort for us. The beach was phenomenal, the grounds were immaculate and the reviews about food and service were exceptional. It was all we were looking for.

After arriving at the resort our expectations were exceeded. We met with the resort’s wedding planner, Julie, and she did exactly what we were hoping for. She gave us a worry free week-long vacation with our family and friends while she ensured that what we envisioned became a reality. She took care of all the details, arranged for a make up artist, a hairdresser, a florist and our entire wedding reception. Looking at the crowd of family and friends and seeing everyone having such a great time I knew we made the right decision.

I loved our entire wedding and having our family and closest friends in the same place was amazing. It was better than I ever could have imagined. It was a day filled with love, happiness and excitement, tons of laughs and many tears. It was a true expression of our personalities and our love for one another. It was completely perfect.

Sunny Destination Wedding in Punta Cana

Destination weddings are some of my favorites. They usually involve sun, sand and in this case a gorgeous wedding week at Dreams Resort in Punta Cana that will have you dreaming of a Caribbean getaway. That mix of vacation festivities and seaside “I Do’s” is always a good one. Have a look at the full gallery for even more of this Dominican Republic gem captured by Brian Limoyo Photography.

An incredibly sun soaked romantic adventure. An intimate destination wedding, with a whole lot of do it yourself personal touches. Down to the unique Bouquets made by the bride herself using seashells instead of flowers. Cassandra & Peter met working together in a country western bar in Kitchener, Longing for sunshine and sand, what better way to tie the knot in January then in Punta Cana. It would give them a chance to celebrate with family and friends a for a week in the sun, let the resort take care of all the details they did not want to fuss with. Friends and family jumped at the chance to get away from the -40C canadian winter, Cassandra and Peter were married by the ocean on Jan 11th 2014.

From Imagination Designers… What could be better than filming a wedding in the Dominican Republic? Doing it with a hundred of the kindest, craziest, most wonderful people you could ever hope to meet, of course! Natalie and Sal are so adorable together, that you can’t help but wish the very best of “Happily Ever After” for them. So it was extremely fitting that their destination wedding at Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana wasn’t just one amazing day, it was (in true Italian fashion) an entire week spent in celebration with their family and friends… and we are so lucky we got to come along for the ride.

From the beautiful resort, to the simple and elegant decor, right down to the beautiful stationary personally crafted by the bride, their wedding day was a picture perfect way to bring two families who had known each other forever together to celebrate. A big thank you goes out to the bride’s cousin and a fantastic photographer, Christina Brosnan as well as Kelly Sauer for being so wonderful to work with!

Punta Cana Wedding from MNC Photography

This Punta Cana wedding has it all. An adorable bride and groom?  Check.  A breathtaking (+ awesomely laid-back) setting?  Check.  An amazing group of family and friends just waiting to celebrate some “I do’s” with their toes in the sand and a drink in hand?  Check, check, check.  This, my friends, is the epitome of a seaside soiree, with an extra dose of pretty.  See it all captured by MNC Photography right here in the full gallery.

From the Bride… I met my husband Kyle in college seven years ago, and ever since he proposed to me I knew I wanted to get married on a beach. I imagined clear waters, blue skies and a sandy beach as the perfect backdrop for our wedding. While we were visiting my family in the Dominican Republic, he proposed to me in March of 2013. It only seemed right to back to the Dominican Republic to tie the knot.

After looking through various options, we decided that the Jellyfish Restaurant in Punta Cana would be the perfect place to get married. It’s a beautiful open-air restaurant nestled off right off the coast. Mayte Marie of the Jellyfish did an AMAZING job and made our dreams come true. Mayte paid attention to every little detail and made sure everything was perfect. The decorations were gorgeous and she makes your vision come to reality. She truly has a gift and makes your day the most magical day of your life!

Our vendors were incredible! I couldn’t have imagined working with anyone else. They made the whole experience that much better.

Punta Cana Wedding from Weddings Romantique + Joseph Lin Photography

A three day wedding weekend in Punta Cana sounds amazing as it is, but when that wedding is planned and designed by Weddings Romantique? Well, that just ups the ante on the pretty factor. It will only take one peek at the images below from Joseph Lin Photography to see why this wedding just had to grace the pages of SMP Destination, and there is even more lovely sitting right here.

From Suha Pressey at Weddings RomantiqueVeronica and Justin hosted a unique and fun destination wedding celebration in Punta Cana Dominican Republic, they wanted to celebrate their wedding with family in an all-inclusive resort so their family can relax and enjoy themselves when they arrived at the resort.

They wanted to welcome their guests and thank them for join them in their celebrations so I helped them plan a three day event for their guests. They had a gorgeous pool welcome party at a very elegant private pool at the resort, where all the ladies were beautiful white dresses and the men were stylish white shirt and pants. They made welcome bags for all their guest to thank them for being part of their wedding celebration. Veronica and Justin decided to surprise the guests at the end of the party by jumping in the pool to start of their wedding weekend celebration!

The wedding ceremony was held on the beach which provided a beautiful natural backdrop for the ceremony, Veronica wanted elegant all white flowers for the ceremony decorations, the arch and aisle design was elegant and chic which highlighted the gorgeous turquoise ocean and white sand on the beach. She chose elegant lavender and purple for her bridesmaids dresses and the groomsmen had a chic white suite with lavender and pink ties that complemented the bridesmaids dresses. Both Veronica and Justin wanted to have all the elements formal black tie reception so they chose to host their reception in an elegant ballrooms with chic all white flowers centerpieces for reception with touches of lavender in the napkins, white draping and lavender up lightning. Veronica added her own personal touches to the reception design by painting her table numbers silver and lavender and created her own escort cards in the same colors. They had another surprise for their guests at reception with Dominican Costume Folkloric Group show which was a lot fun and got of the guests on the dance floor to dance with them!

They hosted a farewell brunch for their guest at another beautiful terrace overlooking the turquoise water where they thanked their guest again for joining them in celebrating their wedding. Veronica and Justin are a very special couple and I am glad I had the opportunity to be part of their destination wedding planning. I enjoyed helping create a stylish wedding and memorable weekend.

Caribbean Wedding in Punta Cana from Brosnan Photographic

This wedding right here?  It’s exactly the reason I love destination weddings.  The reason I can’t get enough of a laid back meets elegant, toes in the sand kind of affair.  It’s a picture perfect backdrop (aka, the Caribbean) with a bride and groom who are the epitome of stunning and enough gold accents to keep you smiling all year (it’s true).  And don’t even get me started on the gallery from Brosnan Photographic.  It’s pure genius… and you can see it all right here.

From Brosnan Photographic… Despite their families knowing each other for many years Natalie and Sal only met a few years ago until fate stepped in and Natalie was Sal’s good luck charm at the blackjack table! Both from the Chicago burbs they decided on a destination wedding to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Their wedding was held at Melia Caribe Tropical. They were married in the evening sun under the beach side gazebo with their dinner in the beach side grill overlooking the shoreline.

Punta Cana Wedding from Angie Silvy Photography

Any wedding that involves sand and ghost chairs is bound to be a good one. I think that exact rule is #1 in the Gorgeous Weddings Rule Book. It has the modern elements that we love mixed with a sense of old world charm of the Dominican Republic and a team of unbelievable talents like design and styling by The Stylish Soiree, florals by Soulflower Design Studio and last, but in no way least, photography captured by Angie Silvy. Have a look here for even more of this destination beaut.

From The Stylish SoireeThe look for Natalia & Alex’s wedding was modern meets old world, with a color palette of cream, yellow, orange, taupe and accents of green. Some couples we work with like the same aesthetic, while other couples are on opposite ends of the spectrum. With Natalia and Alex, Natalia was much more into the modern, clean look and Alex loved Old World and rustic elements. My challenge was the meld these two different aesthetics into one cohesive look for their wedding, so we juxtaposed décor items like modern ghost chairs with burlap runners and crackle urns from Anthropologie for an eclectic yet cool look that was clean and beachy meets old world. One of the biggest hurdles we faced planning-wise was getting the right look and feel in a place that didn’t have a lot of the design elements (floral or decor-wise) that are readily available in the states. We ended up working with an amazing SF-based florist, Emily from Soulflower, who created the look we were going for by using a lot of dried flowers, importing some flowers, sourcing some locally, and even using high quality silk flowers – the end result was truly fantastic, and not something you see at most weddings since it was such an eclectic mix of sources.  It took countless hours of research and setbacks to come to the final design, but I think it turned out beautifully in the end.

We also ended up each bringing 3 full-size suitcases with us (9 total), and even brought all of the floral containers with us since it was so expensive and risky to ship anything to the Dominican Republic. It was incredibly tough logistically, but the end result was so lovely it was all worth it.  Because of the more affordable cost of rentals, venue, and food in a destination location, we were able to bring in most of the vendors from the states so that Natalia & Alex could meet with them in San Francisco and fly them out to the DR for their wedding. Angie Silvy, the photographer, Emily Dreblow from Soulflower Floral Design, The Stylish Soiree team, and even hair and makeup (Jane Kim from The Glamourist) were all flown out for the big day to ensure the quality would be up to par.  A wonderful venue and awesome local vendors rounded out the team that pulled together to make their big day picture perfect.

Dominican Republic Wedding from Kristin La Voie Photography

Color me crazy in love with this couple’s wedding! And then color me yellow because I am 100%, head over heals obsessed with the color yellow after absorbing myself in this beautiful beach wedding at the Majestic Elegance. The yellow bouquets against the whiter-than-white sand and bluer-than-blue ocean pop with color and brightness. Another highlight is the trash the dress session; the emotion, the pure joy and the love are addictive! Check out all the images here, courtesy of Kristin La Voie Photography.

From Kristin La Voie PhotographyThis was a BEAUTIFUL destination wedding in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic at Majestic Elegance. Having just met Jean and Jeff via Skype, it was wonderful to finally meet them in person the day before their nuptials to tour the resort. We all had so many ideas together, I was worried we wouldn’t have enough time in the day! Each image looked more and more beautiful. The palm trees, turquoise water, white sand and sunshine didn’t disappoint. We managed to get in all the wedding party and family photos just before it started pouring during our couples photo op. Luckily, we still had the next day for a trash the dress session!
