Lush Cliffside Bali Wedding at Tirtha Uluwatu

Surprise! Christmas came early over here on SMP because today we’re sharing a jaw-dropping Bali destination wedding from (our faves) Ether & Smith – you seriously won’t believe this is an actual real wedding! A chic all-white dress code, a ceremony site unlike any other and a cliffside reception planned by Hitch’d Bali with florals from Flora Botanica that is absolutely unreal. Basically this is the official royal wedding of Bali, okay people!?!

From Hitch’d BaliThe initial brief from Olivia & Eric was always somewhat of an ‘enchanted’ feel, with the trees playing a big part in creating this look. Originally we were going to forego the smaller trees and just focus on the larger trees for their sweetheart table, but after putting it all together we decided to create the smaller trees to add to the overall look and feel of that enchanted, elegant and almost forest like feel, with the venue pairing perfectly with this concept.

We added some modern touches of the grey linens, lava stone chargers to ‘ground’ the overall design, and added in some elegant touches such as the acrylics with hand calligraphy, cut glassware and gold cutlery, playing to their enchanted wants.

The color palette was always to be white neutral, with a heavy base of greenery and touches of the white blooms throughout. By keeping it neutral it made everything stand out individually on the day.

From the Bride… When Eric and I first started dating, our first trip together was to San Diego. While walking down Laguna Beach, we witnessed a couple getting engaged by the sea. Watching a marriage proposal with a breathtaking sea view in the background was a scene we will never forget.

Years later when planning our own wedding, the idea of getting married away and by the water came natural for us.  Every year we try to go on vacations by the sea, and we wanted to choose a place which we never been-  so Bali it is!

We chose Tirtha Uluwatu as our venue, and it was stunning. We couldn’t get past the amazing Tirtha Chapel and the cliff view. If planning our wedding entirely by email and Skype didn’t cause much stress, the concerns of making the wrong decision to have our guests travel overseas definitely gave us some sleepless nights. We wanted to make sure they are not just celebrating for us, but also celebrating WITH us by having our guests create their own flower crowns along with the mini portrait station during cocktail. All with ocean views and the String quartet setting the tone in the background.

I think one of the biggest reasons we got to enjoy the wedding preparation process was because our planner, Kira, shared the same view with us. She understood what we needed and went above and beyond with everything. The entire wedding setting was like a fairy tale. The beautiful wedding pictures say it all. We couldn’t thank our amazing photographers enough for capturing those precious moments. We wouldn’t have changed anything in this once in a life time memory.

Bringing a Rich, Fall Color Palette to a Bali Wedding at Amanusa

Fall and Bali aren’t a common duo but one look at this day so beautifully captured by Erich McVey + a film by AXIOO Bali and you are going to forget that tropical locales and stunning autumnal color palettes don’t usually go hand in hand. Not to mention that this affair was planned in a mere two months (!!!) The awesome team of vendors including design by Flying Bride, planning by Luxury Weddings Indonesia, florals and decor by Rose and Willow, and stationery by Veronica Halim deserve a major standing ovation. FULL GALLERY

From the stylist…Xiaomin and Hao’s wedding was one beautiful wedding that we managed to design and execute within a short 2 months wedding preparation. Inspired by the color of autumn as they started their relationship during one fine autumn day, and using fresh fruits in the arrangement as the bride is a food nutritionist who is passionate about healthy living, the wedding combined an interesting color palette with fresh fruit as part of its arrangement.

The stationery has watercolor of falling leaves in the color palette to match the whole autumn love story. Not only the stationery, but every little detail of this wedding was customized to make the wedding feels extra special. Like the silk ribbon that we custom ordered in a specific shade to match the color palette of the wedding.

We used the custom silk ribbon not only for the bridal and bridesmaid bouquet, but also to tie the hand fan for ceremony and the linen pouch that holds potpourri for the flower shower.

The bride told me that in Chinese tradition they must give something sweet like candies and chocolates to the wedding guests. Since she herself is a nutritionist and a foodie, she wants to provide her guests with her fave high quality dark chocolate from Royce.

Instead of providing candies we put a few of the individually wrapped dark chocolate inside a linen packaging in delicious candy shape, wrap them with paper that has the wedding “autumn leaves” drawn in watercolor and then each “Candy” was hand calligraphed with the guest’s name before finally tied with the custom color silk ribbon. Such a lovely and thoughtful gift given to each guest that served as the wedding place card as well.

Last but not least, we also sprayed the bride’s favourite perfume on the wedding day and gave out room spray with the same scent as souvenir for the guests so as the guests spray it at home, they will be brought back to the memories of Xiaomin and Hong’s beautiful Bali wedding.

Luxe Wedding in Paradise at Ayana Resort and Spa

Luxe doesn’t even begin to describe the sheer beauty of this Bali affair. Planned by Twogather, and held at Ayana Resort and Spa, it has florals by Hello Designmill Co.  packed into each and every corner and some seriously beautiful and heartfelt moments photographed by Axioo Bali. Come for the tropical views and stay for the sweet, sweet moments all right here.

Sherly and Martin’s wedding was like in fairytale, just like every little girl have ever dreamt when they were a kid. From the breathtaking views on the cliff facing the ocean, the sunset, and the green lawn, which make everyone including the couple to fall in love at the first sight to the place.

The Bride and the Groom were coming from different cities in Indonesia, and choosing Bali for their wedding destination. Planning a destination wedding for 250 guests were never easy, but it was totally worth it. Everything was perfect, the weather was nice and even we got sunset as a bonus before moving to reception area.

The theme of the wedding called elegance of rustic natural. The Bride really loves things that are feminine, natural yet modern. Designmill. Co as their flowers and decoration vendors suggested to have white as their main color, with a touch of nudes, beige and blush as a feminine feels, and putting on abstract pattern as background in dinner area to inject the modern feels. The flowers for the bouquet consists of cotton, lunaria, dusty miller, eucalyptus and a lil bit touch of white italian ruscus.

A Blush Dream of a Wedding at the Alila Uluwatu Bali

Bali is surely one of the “it” places right now to vacation or tie the knot and I’m not mad about it. Cue all the tropical vibes for this beautiful destination wedding for Aussie couple Tyla and Tristan with lively photos by Axioo Bali and romantic details everywhere by Varawedding! Inspired with the incredibly luxurious venue, the Alila Villas Uluwatu, these two celebrated the night away under twinkle lights and dined at lovely blush tables. Oh, and just wait until you hear about their sweet 7 year old son’s impromptu speech! SO sweet!

Tyla’s look was the perfect mix of tropical beauty and classic bride. LOVED her low-back gown and her effortless hairstyle! Great beach look…

Their sweet family photo is EVERYTHING. Now this is what a wedding is all about – the start of a new family.

From the bride…

How did you two meet? We met through mutual friends. Tristan had started up a marketing company and I was one of his first employees as a graphic designer. However it wasn’t until 5 years later when we bumped into each other at a popular bar in Sydney; and that’s where we had our first kiss. Funny enough after a few more drinks Tristan jokingly proposed to me on the dance floor and I faintly remember one of our friends pretending to be a priest and marrying us that night.

What was the funniest moment of the wedding? When our 7 year old son introduced us onto the dance floor and at the end of his speech he shared an embarrassing moment about me coming home in a wheelchair (This happened on the night of my hens a few days before our wedding) It was unexpected and very cheeky of him but it made everyone laugh, even me!

What was your favorite moment of the wedding? I have so many favourite moments but one that stands out would be walking down the aisle with my mum and seeing my daydream and a years worth of planning come to life. Our ceremony was beautifully set up in the breathtaking Alila clifftop cabana which made it all the more surreal. I remember that moment walking in and seeing Tristan standing there, his face was all flushed with slight tears and that made me very emotional as I’ve never seen him like that before. Even though we had kids before marriage, being able to share our vows in front of our 3 children just made the whole experience even more special and memorable.

Please tell us the story of the proposal… Tristan took me on a surprise trip to the Maldives. I didn’t know where we were going until we got to the airport. On the day we arrived he had organized a candle lit dinner on a nearby private island with our own chef and waiters. When it was time for dessert, the staff presented a dome covered in flowers saying that this was a very special Maldivian dessert. When I opened it up there was another flower dome. That was when my heart stopped and I knew he was about to propose to me. I opened it up and there was the ring! Tristan then got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I remember crying because I wasn’t dressed as nicely as I always imagined I would be while getting proposed to. I totally didn’t expect that Tristan could organize this without me knowing (he totally aced it). At exactly 11pm that night, it poured down rain and just like in the movies we ran for cover. We were totally drenched when we got back to our room but it was one of the best memories we’ve shared together!

What inspired your wedding theme? I always knew my bridesmaid dresses would be a combination of blush, pink and gold colours so I based our wedding theme around that. I decided that I wanted our decor to be elegant but also simple as our wedding venue was already so beautiful on its own. After looking at a lot of Instagram and Pinterest pics I was really inspired by the soft look and feel of pampas plants so I told our decorator that I wanted lots and lots of pampas and they totally delivered.

How did you know about Varawedding? During my initial research on Bali weddings, feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to start I decided to just pick up the phone and speak to a wedding planner. Varawedding stood out to me while searching wedding planners in Bali and I was very lucky to have had Sasha Barbara pick up the phone that day and after speaking with her, she helped me with quotations and she also organized the venue viewings for us. We then met in person in Bali during the venue viewings and after that Sasha pretty much guided us through it all from start to finish. Sasha and her team at Varawedding went above and beyond for us and I will be forever grateful!

A Breathtaking Wedding at Manila’s Whitespace Venue

Every day, we feature beautiful weddings. We are lucky in that over the course of 10+ years, SMP has sort of established itself as one of the few places to share the prettiest of the pretty weddings and trust me when I tell you, there are no shortage of them. But every now and then we get a wedding that takes the word beautiful to an entirely new level. That truly takes my breath away. And this is one of those very special weddings. I can’t tell if it’s the exquisite photography by Kurt Boomer, the shockingly gorgeous design by Gideon Hermosa or simply the bride in her stunning loveliness that made me fall so in love. Regardless, this is a wedding that I will never ever forget.

From the Groom: Hannah and I first met in Signet, a menswear store that I co-founded with some friends. We had just opened our first store and Hannah was there accompanying her brother, Bryan, shopping. Our store manager called me because Bryan wanted to pay with a check. I gave my approval and decided to pass by the store but I didn’t think that they would still be there.

When I entered the store, I saw Hannah from the corner of my eye and thought to myself, “hey, she’s pretty cute.” but thinking that she must’ve been Bryan’s girlfriend. When they left, I asked our store staff and they told me that she was the customer’s sister.

I didn’t think I would ever meet her again but fast forward to the weekend, Hannah came back again with another friend to check out some shoes. This time I got to talk to her a bit and found out that she was traveling around Europe with her brother in a few months time.

She also mentioned that Bryan was starting to get into photography. I told her that we were going to be in Florence, Italy around the same time to attend Pitti Uomo, a big menswear trade show and invited the both of them to swing by and come take photos of all the menswear people hanging around the area. And that’s how everything began…

An E-Session at the Four Seasons Tented Camp in Thailand

When I was little, my dad always told me that I should wait to get married until I had travelled the world. It never made any sense to me. But, I think his deeper meaning was that marriage also brings responsibilities and real life in a way that being on your own doesn’t. And turns out, he was sort of right…I haven’t travelled abroad for pleasure since my honeymoon. Well, this couple is proving his theory wrong with a STUNNING engagement shoot at The Four Seasons Tented Camp in Thailand that embraces travel and adventure and discovery and was captured so magically by KT Merry. Flawless coordination by The Wedding Bliss Thailand.

From The Wedding Bliss ThailandFor one extraordinary couple there needs to be a very special engagement shoot. Nadear and Andres not only share their love for one another, but also their many passions in life, one of which is exploring some of the remote corners of the world, discovering unique locations. Their adventures have took them all around the world, but when it came to their engagement photos, they needed something truly special.

Combining their adventurous spirit, love for luxury and the desire to honour the country they met and fell in love in (which is also their home at the moment), the choice fell upon Chiang Rai, Thailand: a very unique corner of it called The Golden Triangle. This area is known around the world for being a tri-country border between Thailand, Myanmar and Laos, as well as having a unique landscape combining mountains, river and tropical forests.

Tucked away in this remote area is an opulent Four Seasons Tented Camp, which brought to life the core of the inspiration behind the shoot.

Reflecting the shared adventurers’ spirits of Andres and Nadear, the shoot was styled as a vintage jungle safari and adventure romance.

Starting their day in Explorer’s lodge the couple enjoyed a serene morning admiring the views from their balcony. It was a beginning of a very inspiring and saturated day. To not overwhelm the beauty of the place, we stared in easily on the design, focusing on the couple’s looks rather than floral decor first, and then slowly added more as the story developed.

We pay tribute to the location and tell a cohesive story of the day. Floral set up at the infinity pool drew its inspiration from Swan Lake, a beautiful love story by the lake full of flowers.

The afternoon was marked with the bohemian chic tent set up at the river bank, referencing the times of Victorian splendour, with its colonial trends enhanced with floral motifs.

The highlight of the day was the river cruise in traditional Thai long-tailed boat, decorated in lush florals. We created a stunning set up using the colour trend of the year, ultraviolet with the greens, creating a perfect juxtaposition to the earthiness of the background.

Spectacular Bali Wedding at the Stunning Soori Bali Resort

One of the things that makes my job so fun is the vast range of weddings that we get to be a part of – from a rustic barn in Maine to the shores of Bali, no two weddings are alike. And if you take the time to dig in a little, I’ve never seen a single wedding story that directly mimics another. The people, the emotions, the moments are all different, all entirely unique. This wedding – photographed to dreamy perfection by Erich McVey and designed flawlessly by Flying Bride – embraces the beaches of Bali and forces you out from behind your computer and into the infinite beauty of an oceanside affair.

From Flying BrideThe Bride and Groom’s direction for the wedding was clear: they wanted a wedding that would blend beautifully with the surrounding of Soori Bali, their stunning venue. With that in mind, I designed their wedding to be inspired by the breathtaking beach of Soori Bali. The color of the blue ocean, its white foam and various shades of sand from neutral to dark grey which represents the “black sand” at Soori, became the main color palette of the wedding.

Another unique element of her wedding was her hand bouquet, made out of tuberoses carefully sewn one by one in order to create a bouquet full of tuberoses. This particular flower was Vivi’s dad’s favourite. Sadly, he has passed away and couldn’t walk with Vivi down the aisle. That was why Vivi wanted to have the tuberoses bouquet so it would be like having her father walking her down the aisle.

To follow on with the nautical theme, which color has inspired the wedding, we used natural nautical elements such as luminous oyster and capiz shells to be combined with rows of dramatic candles to decorate various long, dark wooden tables. While most brides dream of having luscious flowers on their wedding day, Vivi, who is unlike most girls, prefer to have her wedding the opposite way. Both Yoga and she are not fond of flowers. The challenge was to find an element to replace flowers on their wedding. However, Vivi once told us that she used to have a terrarium with beautiful succulents inside. This made Yoga laughed so hard as he said the succulent which could stay alive even without water, died in her hands. They both laughed. The funny story became a memorable moment for them. So I decided to replace the use of flowers on the table arrangement with various exotic succulents. Drapery and rows of terrarium lamps added so much elegance overhead.

Last but not least, the 9 tier wedding cake was a symbol to represent the couple’s 9 years relationship. The breathtaking cake was made with amazing nautical textured element made by the most skilled cake artisan in Indonesia. It was truly icing to the very wonderful and memorable wedding.

Come for the Bali Backdrop, Stay for the Dreamy Black Tie Affair

You all are in for such a treat because today we are diving into three insanely beautiful features from friend and photographer extraordinaire, Erich McVey. First up is a destination affair like no other. When we think of Bali, it’s all tropical beaches and lush greenery and this wedding definitely has all of that. BUT, it also incorporates a fully decked out black tie celebration designed by Joy Proctor and planned by Wedding Atelier, along with florals by Bows and Arrows. It’s crazy gorgeous with a side of vacation wanderlust.

From Joy ProctorErin and Matt’s wedding was inspired by the beauty and culture of Bali. The neutral color palette of creme, taupe and green with gold and wood accents were taken from the landscape and architecture of Bali. The historic Villas at Khayangan Estate set the perfect backdrop for the oceanfront event. Guests were greeted with fresh coconuts and they made their way to the ceremony. After exchanging vows, the couple invited their guests for drinks and canapés as the sun set. The reception was held in a draped tent with woven lamps hanging overhead. The tables were filled with locally foraged flowers and heavy candlelight. Much of the design was inspired by Erin’s stunning Naeem Kahn gown. The lace pattern was used throughout the stationery as well as the cake including laser cut invitations and menus.

Bridesmaids Dressed in Ikat Printed Gowns? Yes, Please!

This romantic white wedding comes with a bohemian twist. That twist would be bridesmaids in mix and match ikat dresses. It’s stunning and only adds to the tropical, cultural vibes of this Bali affair designed by Flying Bride, along with planning by Luxury Weddings Indonesia. From layers of white florals, to that bold bridesmaid style and a cameo from the couple’s beloved pup who couldn’t make the festivities, there’s more than meets the eye with this celebration. Get cozy with the all the stunning details plus a welcome party to remember in the full gallery photographed by Angga Permana.

From the beginning, the bride Bianca had a clear idea of what she wants. A traditional style welcome dinner and an organic white wedding for the wedding day.

Welcome dinner
To create a totally different ambiance to the classic white wedding, we designed the welcome dinner to be bold and beautiful with color such as red, purple and lavender as inspired by the tenun ikat (traditional fabric) which we hung on the bamboo structure. The color of the flowers and the cushions were within these shades and created a very beautiful tone for the event. Since Bianca is a foodie, I decided to combine flowers with various tropical fruit to decorate the table on top of a green table runner made from woven banana leaves. To be truthful to the traditional culture, we used “kendi”, a traditional vase made from clay as vases for the flower arrangement. Some of the tables were low so people could experience sitting in the rattan carpet to eat, just like traditional villagers do. Cluster of bamboo lampshades in various sizes were hung to create extra drama overhead.

Wedding Day
Both Bianca and Kevin loves the nature and Kevin propose when they were having a walk in a botanica garden. Hence, we wanted the white wedding that Bianca dreamy of to have that organic, part of nature feeling with greeneries decorating the tent as if they gree there. We also added preserves butterflies on some of the flower arrangement. Bianca has a frenchie dog (soba) that she loves very much, and would love her to come to the wedding. So a statute of her dear frenchie dog was decorated with flower wreath and the writing “soba wishes she were here” near the registration table. An even smaller statute of soba were put as part of the decoration table which was so cute it became quite a hit with many guests taking picture of it and gushing about it. The final touch we added was the ikat pattern that Bianca loves. If for the welcome dinner the ikat pattern was in bold color decorating the bamboo structure, this time the bridesmaids wore various modern pattern of ikat in the shades of grey. It feels really special to incorporate your culture into your wedding.

Celebrating Under a Sea of the Most Romantic Draped Fabric

One look at this Bali celebration through the lens of Sally Pinera and you’ll be hooked. It’s a given that Khayangan Estate is gorgeous all on its own, but when you throw in the most elegant, tropical affair crafted by Call Me Madame and Bloomz Fine Flowers, it takes this destination to magical proportions. And just wait until you see the reception beautifully draped in fabric. Gorgeous is an understatement.

From Planner Alice Dentan… When Anita and Aiden first got in touch with us, our team at Call Me Madame was absolutely thrilled by their choice of venue: one of Bali’s most elegant venue, the Khayangan Estate. So as to match the grandeur of this stunning setting, we designed a décor that would follow three criteria: refinement, romance and simple sophistication. We decided to use fabrics as the main thread of our styling: in the welcome sign, the stationery, the menus, the place
cards, the guest book and so on… Hence, we sought for the finest handcraft fabric for the welcome signs; for the most elegant silk chiffons to create sweet place cards; for the lightest cotton texture to hang above the dinner in a soft and exquisite ceiling of drapes. We choose a romantic, boudoir look for the ceremony, with a palette of pastels: some light wood Louis chairs, a beautiful taupe canopy created by the amazing team of Bloomz. Our team from Call Me Madame welcomed the guests by distributing them custom-made hand fans by the lovely Anggun from Bunny at Dawn, proposing them some locally made embroidered happy tears tissues and helping them creating their very own cones of petals from our delicate confetti bar. The cocktail styling was created as an indoor-outdoor décor, with a guest book made of small pieces of fabric on which the guests would write their best wishes to the couple, and then pin them on a wood structure, creating a collaborative piece of art. After sunset, the guests looked for their escort cards that we slipped into champagne glasses: “sip and be seated”. So French! We set up the dinner tables under a stunning open wooden structure, with white cotton veils, vintage crystal chandeliers and festoon lights. We selected ash linen tablecloths from The Host Table and the beautiful Louis chairs. Our florist Bloomz created centerpieces in a camaieu of light pink, coral, peach. We used the beautiful taper candles from Creatives Candles, and handcrafted pillar ones. Menus were calligraphed by our favorite Shervi from Pi Calligraphy and printed on off-white fabric. The bride and groom choose a three-tier wedding cake designed by the one and only Gita from Butter Bali, with floating sugar flowers and foliage details. They opened the dancefloor on Yellow by Coldplay, beautifully interpreted by Damaris and her band. And all this under the perfect eye of Sally Pinera!

Tropical Green + White Wedding Wonderland

A villa in Thailand and endless white and green florals…the perfect recipe for paradise if we do say so ourselves. Kiah Weddings planned the day, Bliss Events & Weddings supplied the blooms, and ARTIESE Studios captured it all for our viewing (aka dreaming) pleasure. Add in not one, but two, gorgeous gowns, and we’re positively smitten. Don’t you agree?!

From ARTIESE Studios… This wedding was inspired by the vibrant tones of the Mediterranean, with splashes of tropical elements. Amy Fung of Kiah Weddings planned and coordinated every detail of the shoot from idea and concept, providing the stationeries, styling, and executing the day. The fresh floral arrangements curated by Bliss Events & Weddings were composed of florals in soft whites and delicate hues of pale yellow decorated with greenery. The ceremony was held by the infinity pool alongside a breathtaking view of the water – a heavenly setting for the couple and for the guests at Villa Koh Koon. The villa is private and secluded, equipped with airy and light-filled spaces – a perfect atmosphere and aura for intimate destination weddings and celebrations.

A Multi-Cultural Celebration With a Beautiful Bali Backdrop

Pulling from their English and Australian backgrounds, this couple chose the insanely gorgeous backdrop of Bali for their Persian/western wedding celebration. The result is the most gorgeous mix of culture and tropical infused decor planned by Call Me Madame, along with florals designed by Bloomz. And just wait until you see this reception under a sea of chandeliers. Get ready for image after breathtaking image through the lens of Katie Grant Photography.

Shadi is English, Christian is Australian and they choose beautiful Bali as the background for their persian-western wedding ceremony. A stunning white colonial cliff-top villa, the salty air, blush and pale pink gorgeous flowers and the endless view on the ocean : this is the setting in which the guests wistnessed Shadi and Christian vows. The couple choose to recreate a french garden for their ceremony : vintage Louis chairs, white large Medicis vases, a metal garden gate as a canopy. The bride wore an absolutely gorgeous dress designed by Modeca, from Js Couture ; the groom got married in a Dolce & Gabbana navy blue suit. The bridesmaids wore off-white mismatched, lace dresses. As for the dining ceremony, we recreated a french pergola, delicately adorned with natural gauze veils for a soft and light look, and hold vintage chandeliers above the tables. These Globetrotters Picked the Most Magical Spot to Say “I Do”

Greg Finck has a way with gorgeous imagery. Now couple that with the tropical beauty of Bali and the result is picture perfect. For this wanderlusting couple, the Istana Villa proved a dream backdrop for their romantic, garden style wedding designed by Bali Exclusive Wedding + Gloriosa Flowers. It’s all blushing hues, chandelier draped dining and the most stunning cliffside views. Take a peek at the full celebration right here.

From Rachael, the bride… Darren and I are from Scotland originally and currently reside in Den Haag, The Netherlands. Before moving to The Netherlands we spent several years living and working in Singapore. Our love for Asia, and ultimately Bali, lead us to choosing Uluwatu as our picture perfect destination for our wedding day. After visiting Bali in 2013 we fell in love with this beautiful island instantly. Bali is named “The Island of the Gods” and it is easy to see why; a tropical oasis, filled with culture and beauty. However, beauty is not only skin deep with Bali – it in engrained within; the Balinese people mirror the external beauty with their kindness and generosity. Preparation is key when planning a destination wedding! We started our search for Bali wedding venues in the Spring of 2015. The Istana Villa caught our attention straight away with it’s impressive cliff top setting and breathtaking ocean views. After hours of reading online reviews and stalking Instagram, we were sold! Once we had settled on our venue we made contact with different wedding planners in Bali so see which would be the right fit for us. Bali Exclusive Weddings offered what we were looking for; a dynamic wedding coordinating service, specialising in private villa weddings. Organising a destination wedding was much easier than I could have ever expected! I put this largely down to having excellent vendors and also Darren and I being naturally organised individuals. We created spreadsheets to keep us on track with our budget, and also to keep us up to date with our “to-do” lists. Once we booked The Istana in May, we set up a Wedding planning trip to Bali later on in the year to meet with our Wedding planners and potential vendors. Before our visit, we created several mood boards using Pintrest on what we dreamt our wedding day to look and feel like. I created a document containing every little detail we envisaged for our day and brought this along on our trip. Being prepared with our mood boards before meeting with our Wedding Planner and vendors lead to a very successful trip to Bali; on returning to The Netherlands we had everything booked! When I envisaged my wedding day I knew exactly what I wanted to create; a soft, whimsical, romantic, garden wedding. I wanted to keep the decoration classy & elegant which lead me to select my colour scheme; white, cream, pale champagne, pale blush & pale grey. I wanted our decoration colour scheme to mirror that worn by our bridal party which ultimately created a very well put together look & theme for our day. Pinterest was great to gather ideas and categorise each design element in different folders. I spent a lot of my free time looking through bridal magazines, blogs & Instagram for decoration ideas. When I met with my decorator in Bali I discussed what I was looking to create and, for her ease, I had created a mood board for each decoration area (entrance set up, ceremony set up, cocktail arrangement, dinner reception etc)

It was important to me to use locally sourced flowers from Bali. Bali has a wealth of locally grown flowers and I wished to use them all in abundance! With the help of my decorator, Gloriosa Flower House, we selected a large mixture of different local flowers to create our elegant romantic garden theme. Other design elements which were incorporated in our decor were chandeliers. Chandeliers ooze elegance, sophistication and romance and when combined with floral installation they are out of this world glamorous! For our dinner reception I wished to have these lighting our tables outside to create and intimate and elegant atmosphere. Additionally to the chandeliers we asked to have white draping over the bridal table to emphasise the romance. We also wanted to include touches of Scotland & Bali within our decoration. We included a traditional whisky bar for the men to “take a wee dram” and also for those with a sweet tooth, a few Scottish treats to indulge on! For our Balinese elements we selected traditional Balinese umbrellas and wooden fans to shade our guests from the sun and keep them cool. Selecting vendors can be quite daunting as you are ultimately trusting them with one of the most important days of your life! I spent a lot of time researching each vendor and reading reviews where available. I found this very helpful as it provided me with a good idea on what I could expect from each vendor. It is important to listen to your wedding planner for advice as this is their field of expertise but it is also equally important to research their suggestions and source your own vendors to find someone you love. For our wedding we used a mixture of local and international vendors. I knew from the very beginning that photography was very important to our wedding so we could capture the day for years to come. I love soft, fine art photography which looks like it has fallen straight out the pages of a fashion editorial. I found my fabulous photographer, Greg Finck, through Instagram. Greg was the perfect fit for our wedding, he creates the most beautiful photographs which are timeless, elegant and romantic. Luckily for us Greg is a destination photographer and we were delighted when he agreed to join us in

Bringing the French Countryside to the Shores of Bali

When plans for a wedding in Provence fell apart, this couple turned lemons into lemonade and brought the French countryside (and a team of amazing vendors) to the shores of Bali. Incorporating the prettiest pastels, an amphitheater style ceremony overlooking the ocean and a petal toss bar designed by Call Me Madame and Bloomz Fine Flowers, this celebration is the perfect mash-up of these equally gorgeous locales. Pore through stunning images by Studio Ohlala and the cutest film by The Barefoot Bride.

From the Bride…We had originally planned our wedding at a beautiful chateau outside Aix En Provence. I loved everything about Provence and how romantic the tones were, but when that fell apart it was such a blessing in disguise because we ended up with a Provencal wedding in Bali- which was a lot more of a personal, spiritual place for us. And I can’t imagine anything better than that. We had the whole package of pastel tones in the sea, the sky, and the flowers, the breathtakingly peaceful scenery, the magic of Bali, and to top it off an all french wedding team.

We had polaroids of all 90 wedding guests strung from the trees to make it feel more personal, lawn games, a pick your own petal confetti bar, donut wall, and my favourite which was the Splash Zone. It was a large canvas covered in white balloons filled with pastel and gold paints, and all guests got to throw a dart and help create an artwork. Later they signed the back and that was our guest book.

My favourite moment was definitely the ceremony. Our planner worked with Janice, from Bloomz Bali who could not have created a more magical setting. We had Mayan temple inspired arch, an aisle lined with blue and white chinoiserie vases filled with pastel pink and white flowers, and custom made pink, beige and blue and white linen pillows for guests to sit on, with a guitarist playing an acoustic version of the Little Mermaids “Kiss the Girl”- which was my favourite thing in the world because it was my husbands genius suggestion.

Our wedding venue was already the most beautiful place in the world, and was made even more so with all the beautiful details and flower arrangements. The staff at the Ayana Hotel were beyond expectation. For example they quickly realized that Joe liked tequila shots, so there was a waiter by him at all times with a full tray of shots, even on the dance floor! My gown was the most beautiful thing. I didn’t find myself to be the type to wear a big cinderella gown, and then I came across this Inbal Dror piece at Morgan Davies in London and immediately fell in love. It was simple in shape, which perfectly balanced all the beautiful detail. The whole piece glittered. I worked with my planner to help personalise the wedding favours. We had custom scented local soaps with coconut, rose and rose petals, local coconut oil, dried banana and chips, and tote bags with our wedding logo with gold foil labels. Our cake was essentially a naked victoria sponge cake, with an island touch in that the base was coconut. We can hardly get over how perfect our whole experience was. We had the best 2 weeks of adventures like river rafting and diving with manta rays with 90 of our favourite people in Bali, and just when we thought it couldn’t get any better the skies cleared, the sun came out and we had the most beautiful day of our lives. I’ve always heard and expected that little things will go wrong on your wedding day, but with our planner Alice from Call Me Madame it was literally flawless. Throughout the planning process she helped create the wedding of our dreams from the other side of the world without a single moment of stress or worry, and we’re so grateful for her. Most photographers in the region have a different style that doesn’t compliment the whole romantic provencal air we were trying to create, so we were over the moon when Alice suggested Saya from Studio Oh Lala in Paris, who also spends part of her year in Thailand and was exactly what we were looking for. Selecting the right photographer to capture your wedding is so important. We also found an incredible videographer in Kurt from the Barefoot Bride and between the two of them we had the best company and the most magically captured memories.

• What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be? Have your wedding in Bali with Alice. I would also suggest to not stress on small details, and to have a friend remind you throughout the day to be present, because it really is the most beautiful day of your life and it’s so important to really be there. And if you need a summary of me and Joe;

Joe and I met 5 years ago through mutual friends in Los Angeles and immediately connected over mutual interests. I was living between London and Bahrain, and had been back visiting a year after graduating from university in Los Angeles, and although we lived on literally opposite sides of the world it was never an issue. We connected effortlessly and spend the next 5 years traveling around the world together laughing, expereincing and becoming even stronger partners, and now I’m lucky to call him my husband

From the Bride… Bali is our idea of the perfect holiday – sunshine, surf breaks, relaxation, and an endless choice of amazing restaurants. So when it came time to plan our wedding, we had no doubt that an intimate destination wedding in Bali with all our close friends and family would be right for us. We engaged Karen as our wedding planner from CHER ANGE Weddings and Events. Karen’s expertise and local knowledge made the process of planning a wedding from Australia so enjoyable and stress-free. We chose Villa Bayuh Sabbha in Uluwatu as our wedding venue – Tom was won over by the surf breaks at the site inspection! The beautiful tropical gardens and panoramic views of the coastline created the perfect setting.

The whole day felt like a dream, I remember Tom whispering to me, “I can’t believe this is for us.” My mum walked me down the aisle to ‘Heartbeats’ by Jose Gonzalez. Tom said this was a moment he will never forget. Our favorite memory was entering the reception to ‘You Are the Best Thing’ by Ray LaMontagne as Mr. and Mrs. Keech. Our bridal party all had sparklers, which was such a fun way to kick off the night! After the speeches and cake cutting, Tom and I had our first dance to ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson. I loved dancing under the canopy of fairy lights, it was so romantic – Tom even gave me a twirl or two! Then we were joined by everyone and danced all night. Our wedding would not have been the same if we weren’t in the company of our friends and family. It was our guests that made our wedding so special, and we were so lucky that they made the journey over to Bali to share our special day with us.

You Can Have a Modern Beach Wedding + Here’s Proof

One of our favorite secrets no one tells you about destination weddings is that you don’t have to go overboard with a beachy theme. Take a look at this one by Cher Ange Weddings + Events, for example. The stylish Bride rocked a modern Suzanne Harward dress that looked stunning against the architectural backdrop of The Ungasan Clifftop Resort and Bali’s ubiquitous blue waters and ample greenery. As this modern affair captured by Balimetro Wedding Cinematography and Imaj Gallery proves, destination Brides look best when they infuse their own style with their chosen location!

From the Bride… Our style inspiration for our big day was most definitely the location, The Ungasan Clifftop Resort. These spectacular cliff-top villas are all class, style, and luxury with the most breathtaking views of the ocean. We wanted our wedding to be stylish and sophisticated to match our gorgeous setting.

Our color palette was white and a splash of gold! The location has so much color and personality – the bright blue ocean, the crisp green grass, the outstanding architecture of the villas – we thought adding any more color would be overkill (oh, except for the touch of red on my nails that matched my Louboutins!).

We were blessed with the help we received for our special day. Our chic wedding planner, Karen from Cher Ange who crafts bespoke weddings in Bali, worked tirelessly on our wedding and helped mold our vision into reality. And the staff at The Ungasan were faultless, their attentiveness and their famous Balinese smiles made the day all the more amazing.

One of our favorite moments was our first dance. It was really quite special, and so very us! We are not your waltz kind of couple, nor did we want this moment to be boring for our guests, so we employed a hip hop dance teacher to choreograph a fun little number to “Never Tear Us Apart” by INXS. Lets just say my husband looked like a pro when he dipped me, and my yoga practice came in handy for the backbend!

Our flowers were superb! We had a beautiful flower arch on the edge of the cliffs with the blue ocean as our backdrop. Our flower arrangement inside the roof of the marquee was magnificent.

My dress!! Oh how I wish I could wear it again. A Suzanne Harward dress, this white, modern work of art that was so simple yet so elegant was the perfect dress to let me dance in. I kicked off the Louboutins for the reception and walked the grass barefoot; my dress was the perfect design to allow freedom whilst still looking stylish.

Without a doubt, the most exceptional thing about the day was the love. It could not have been manufactured. There was so much love in the house. And no one was afraid to say it or show it.

If I could give one piece of advice to Brides-to-be it would be to have fun! Don’t forget to enjoy yourself. Laugh, cry tears of joy, kiss your husband, and hug your family. Get swept up in the love.

From Robb of Axioo Bali…  A wedding is the height of all joyous occasions; and what better way than to celebrate it at the #1 wedding destination in the world – Bali? For Jared and Mia, it’s an intimate union of not only the couple themselves, but the joining together of the two families and friends involved in the ceremony and party. It’s a celebration filled with so much love, awesome speeches, Greek circle dance, tears of joy, and more. For one of the best Bali weddings we’ve ever seen, from this Perth couple, we wish that their happy marriage is even more beautiful and warm than the glorious wedding. Now let’s enjoy the reel and creative works from Axioo Bali, along with a snippet of words from the head of photography himself…

Jared and Mia is one of the most beautiful couples I’ve ever had the privilege to capture on camera. This gorgeous Perth’s power couple tied the knot in beautiful island of Bali. There are two things I especially loved and found exceptionally memorable about this simple yet elegant and intimate wedding. First, the speeches. Second, the Greek folk circle dance.

While the first one is something that I’ve seen and heard often, all these speeches blew me away. They were just so much genuine and heartfelt words sent this couple’s way – adding to the overall warm ambiance that everyone surely felt that evening. As for the Greek circle dance itself, that’s definitely quite rare! All the guests got up from their seats toward the dance floor, to stand arm in arm in the Greek circle dance. Opa!

At the reception, one of Mia’s uncle came up to me and asked me if I was any good at what I do. I smiled as I struggled to find the answer. But before I could say anything, he told me that I must be good because Mia, the perfectionist, hired me to document her wedding. I politely thanked him. In fact, I should have told him that the honor and pleasure was actually all mine to have been invited to capture such a beautiful wedding and witnessed the extraordinary love of Mia and Jared.

If You Need Convincing to Get Married in Bali, Check Out This Wedding

This Bride’s advice for those considering a destination wedding is right on point: “Absolutely go for it! Most couples comment that the day flies by too quickly, and that they don’t have enough time to take it all in, but with a destination wedding, you can bask in the celebration and the excitement for days.” If you need any more convincing on the glories of a Bali celebration, check out the photos by Terralogical of their special day, planned by Cher Ange Weddings + Events. Plus, Flipmax shared the amazing film, waiting for you below!

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/oj2Bn1Gx4zk 600 338]

From the Bride… We chose to have our destination wedding in Bali in the hope that the celebrations and fun with our family and friends would last longer than the wedding day alone, and we’re happy to report we smashed that brief! We chose Villa the Sanctuary in Canggu, Bali for its spectacular grounds and facilities and also because of its ability to accommodate a select few of our closest family members so they could stay on location with us in pre- and post-wedding day. With poolside cocktails, family dinners, and trips to Finns Beach club, it really doesn’t get much better.

There were so many memorable moments, but one that really stands out for me was the wedding morning – the preparation was completely relaxed, allowing me to take in the magnitude of what this day meant. Veuve champagne flowed whilst Beyoncé’s Lemonade album played…my girls and I had a ball. The evening celebrations were the perfect end to our perfect day. Our dance floor was electric and just so much fun, but a particularly special moment of the evening celebrations was the speeches. The emotion, the tears, and the laughter tied together to create a perfect halo of love around not just us, but all of our family and friends.

Although it was our own event, from as early as the morning preparations through to the last song at our evening celebration, both Luke and I felt like VIP guests. It was magical from start to finish. Afterward Luke and I marveled at just how seamlessly the day had unfolded; we were so impressed that it all ‘just happens’ – it felt like a perfectly orchestrated Hollywood movie production. The day moved and turned behind the scenes and was timed to perfection without interrupting us, and we can only attribute this to our phenomenal planner, Karen, and her team. Their professionalism was flawless, and the attention to detail and styling far exceeded our expectations.

My advice for couples considering a destination wedding is this: Absolutely go for it! Most couples comment that the day flies by too quickly, and that they don’t have enough time to take it all in, but with a destination wedding, you can bask in the celebration and the excitement for days.We are thrilled with our decision and would highly recommend it to others.

My greatest advice to others, which was also passed on to me, is that at different moments throughout the day, try to take a minute to stop and look around, to really just feel in that moment. To help you do this, recite in your head little things like… “I’m eating breakfast on my wedding day,” “I’m getting my hair done on my wedding day,” etc. and take time to look at the flowers on the tables and actively take note of all the detail and special moments. Don’t forget to try all the food, sample the cocktails, and be as present as possible. I found it really helped to form markers in my mind and memory, which helps the day not to pass in a blur.
