Bringing the French Countryside to the Shores of Bali

When plans for a wedding in Provence fell apart, this couple turned lemons into lemonade and brought the French countryside (and a team of amazing vendors) to the shores of Bali. Incorporating the prettiest pastels, an amphitheater style ceremony overlooking the ocean and a petal toss bar designed by Call Me Madame and Bloomz Fine Flowers, this celebration is the perfect mash-up of these equally gorgeous locales. Pore through stunning images by Studio Ohlala and the cutest film by The Barefoot Bride.

From the Bride…We had originally planned our wedding at a beautiful chateau outside Aix En Provence. I loved everything about Provence and how romantic the tones were, but when that fell apart it was such a blessing in disguise because we ended up with a Provencal wedding in Bali- which was a lot more of a personal, spiritual place for us. And I can’t imagine anything better than that. We had the whole package of pastel tones in the sea, the sky, and the flowers, the breathtakingly peaceful scenery, the magic of Bali, and to top it off an all french wedding team.

We had polaroids of all 90 wedding guests strung from the trees to make it feel more personal, lawn games, a pick your own petal confetti bar, donut wall, and my favourite which was the Splash Zone. It was a large canvas covered in white balloons filled with pastel and gold paints, and all guests got to throw a dart and help create an artwork. Later they signed the back and that was our guest book.

My favourite moment was definitely the ceremony. Our planner worked with Janice, from Bloomz Bali who could not have created a more magical setting. We had Mayan temple inspired arch, an aisle lined with blue and white chinoiserie vases filled with pastel pink and white flowers, and custom made pink, beige and blue and white linen pillows for guests to sit on, with a guitarist playing an acoustic version of the Little Mermaids “Kiss the Girl”- which was my favourite thing in the world because it was my husbands genius suggestion.

Our wedding venue was already the most beautiful place in the world, and was made even more so with all the beautiful details and flower arrangements. The staff at the Ayana Hotel were beyond expectation. For example they quickly realized that Joe liked tequila shots, so there was a waiter by him at all times with a full tray of shots, even on the dance floor! My gown was the most beautiful thing. I didn’t find myself to be the type to wear a big cinderella gown, and then I came across this Inbal Dror piece at Morgan Davies in London and immediately fell in love. It was simple in shape, which perfectly balanced all the beautiful detail. The whole piece glittered. I worked with my planner to help personalise the wedding favours. We had custom scented local soaps with coconut, rose and rose petals, local coconut oil, dried banana and chips, and tote bags with our wedding logo with gold foil labels. Our cake was essentially a naked victoria sponge cake, with an island touch in that the base was coconut. We can hardly get over how perfect our whole experience was. We had the best 2 weeks of adventures like river rafting and diving with manta rays with 90 of our favourite people in Bali, and just when we thought it couldn’t get any better the skies cleared, the sun came out and we had the most beautiful day of our lives. I’ve always heard and expected that little things will go wrong on your wedding day, but with our planner Alice from Call Me Madame it was literally flawless. Throughout the planning process she helped create the wedding of our dreams from the other side of the world without a single moment of stress or worry, and we’re so grateful for her. Most photographers in the region have a different style that doesn’t compliment the whole romantic provencal air we were trying to create, so we were over the moon when Alice suggested Saya from Studio Oh Lala in Paris, who also spends part of her year in Thailand and was exactly what we were looking for. Selecting the right photographer to capture your wedding is so important. We also found an incredible videographer in Kurt from the Barefoot Bride and between the two of them we had the best company and the most magically captured memories.

• What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be? Have your wedding in Bali with Alice. I would also suggest to not stress on small details, and to have a friend remind you throughout the day to be present, because it really is the most beautiful day of your life and it’s so important to really be there. And if you need a summary of me and Joe;

Joe and I met 5 years ago through mutual friends in Los Angeles and immediately connected over mutual interests. I was living between London and Bahrain, and had been back visiting a year after graduating from university in Los Angeles, and although we lived on literally opposite sides of the world it was never an issue. We connected effortlessly and spend the next 5 years traveling around the world together laughing, expereincing and becoming even stronger partners, and now I’m lucky to call him my husband

From the Bride… Bali is our idea of the perfect holiday – sunshine, surf breaks, relaxation, and an endless choice of amazing restaurants. So when it came time to plan our wedding, we had no doubt that an intimate destination wedding in Bali with all our close friends and family would be right for us. We engaged Karen as our wedding planner from CHER ANGE Weddings and Events. Karen’s expertise and local knowledge made the process of planning a wedding from Australia so enjoyable and stress-free. We chose Villa Bayuh Sabbha in Uluwatu as our wedding venue – Tom was won over by the surf breaks at the site inspection! The beautiful tropical gardens and panoramic views of the coastline created the perfect setting.

The whole day felt like a dream, I remember Tom whispering to me, “I can’t believe this is for us.” My mum walked me down the aisle to ‘Heartbeats’ by Jose Gonzalez. Tom said this was a moment he will never forget. Our favorite memory was entering the reception to ‘You Are the Best Thing’ by Ray LaMontagne as Mr. and Mrs. Keech. Our bridal party all had sparklers, which was such a fun way to kick off the night! After the speeches and cake cutting, Tom and I had our first dance to ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson. I loved dancing under the canopy of fairy lights, it was so romantic – Tom even gave me a twirl or two! Then we were joined by everyone and danced all night. Our wedding would not have been the same if we weren’t in the company of our friends and family. It was our guests that made our wedding so special, and we were so lucky that they made the journey over to Bali to share our special day with us.

You Can Have a Modern Beach Wedding + Here’s Proof

One of our favorite secrets no one tells you about destination weddings is that you don’t have to go overboard with a beachy theme. Take a look at this one by Cher Ange Weddings + Events, for example. The stylish Bride rocked a modern Suzanne Harward dress that looked stunning against the architectural backdrop of The Ungasan Clifftop Resort and Bali’s ubiquitous blue waters and ample greenery. As this modern affair captured by Balimetro Wedding Cinematography and Imaj Gallery proves, destination Brides look best when they infuse their own style with their chosen location!

From the Bride… Our style inspiration for our big day was most definitely the location, The Ungasan Clifftop Resort. These spectacular cliff-top villas are all class, style, and luxury with the most breathtaking views of the ocean. We wanted our wedding to be stylish and sophisticated to match our gorgeous setting.

Our color palette was white and a splash of gold! The location has so much color and personality – the bright blue ocean, the crisp green grass, the outstanding architecture of the villas – we thought adding any more color would be overkill (oh, except for the touch of red on my nails that matched my Louboutins!).

We were blessed with the help we received for our special day. Our chic wedding planner, Karen from Cher Ange who crafts bespoke weddings in Bali, worked tirelessly on our wedding and helped mold our vision into reality. And the staff at The Ungasan were faultless, their attentiveness and their famous Balinese smiles made the day all the more amazing.

One of our favorite moments was our first dance. It was really quite special, and so very us! We are not your waltz kind of couple, nor did we want this moment to be boring for our guests, so we employed a hip hop dance teacher to choreograph a fun little number to “Never Tear Us Apart” by INXS. Lets just say my husband looked like a pro when he dipped me, and my yoga practice came in handy for the backbend!

Our flowers were superb! We had a beautiful flower arch on the edge of the cliffs with the blue ocean as our backdrop. Our flower arrangement inside the roof of the marquee was magnificent.

My dress!! Oh how I wish I could wear it again. A Suzanne Harward dress, this white, modern work of art that was so simple yet so elegant was the perfect dress to let me dance in. I kicked off the Louboutins for the reception and walked the grass barefoot; my dress was the perfect design to allow freedom whilst still looking stylish.

Without a doubt, the most exceptional thing about the day was the love. It could not have been manufactured. There was so much love in the house. And no one was afraid to say it or show it.

If I could give one piece of advice to Brides-to-be it would be to have fun! Don’t forget to enjoy yourself. Laugh, cry tears of joy, kiss your husband, and hug your family. Get swept up in the love.

From Robb of Axioo Bali…  A wedding is the height of all joyous occasions; and what better way than to celebrate it at the #1 wedding destination in the world – Bali? For Jared and Mia, it’s an intimate union of not only the couple themselves, but the joining together of the two families and friends involved in the ceremony and party. It’s a celebration filled with so much love, awesome speeches, Greek circle dance, tears of joy, and more. For one of the best Bali weddings we’ve ever seen, from this Perth couple, we wish that their happy marriage is even more beautiful and warm than the glorious wedding. Now let’s enjoy the reel and creative works from Axioo Bali, along with a snippet of words from the head of photography himself…

Jared and Mia is one of the most beautiful couples I’ve ever had the privilege to capture on camera. This gorgeous Perth’s power couple tied the knot in beautiful island of Bali. There are two things I especially loved and found exceptionally memorable about this simple yet elegant and intimate wedding. First, the speeches. Second, the Greek folk circle dance.

While the first one is something that I’ve seen and heard often, all these speeches blew me away. They were just so much genuine and heartfelt words sent this couple’s way – adding to the overall warm ambiance that everyone surely felt that evening. As for the Greek circle dance itself, that’s definitely quite rare! All the guests got up from their seats toward the dance floor, to stand arm in arm in the Greek circle dance. Opa!

At the reception, one of Mia’s uncle came up to me and asked me if I was any good at what I do. I smiled as I struggled to find the answer. But before I could say anything, he told me that I must be good because Mia, the perfectionist, hired me to document her wedding. I politely thanked him. In fact, I should have told him that the honor and pleasure was actually all mine to have been invited to capture such a beautiful wedding and witnessed the extraordinary love of Mia and Jared.

If You Need Convincing to Get Married in Bali, Check Out This Wedding

This Bride’s advice for those considering a destination wedding is right on point: “Absolutely go for it! Most couples comment that the day flies by too quickly, and that they don’t have enough time to take it all in, but with a destination wedding, you can bask in the celebration and the excitement for days.” If you need any more convincing on the glories of a Bali celebration, check out the photos by Terralogical of their special day, planned by Cher Ange Weddings + Events. Plus, Flipmax shared the amazing film, waiting for you below!

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/oj2Bn1Gx4zk 600 338]

From the Bride… We chose to have our destination wedding in Bali in the hope that the celebrations and fun with our family and friends would last longer than the wedding day alone, and we’re happy to report we smashed that brief! We chose Villa the Sanctuary in Canggu, Bali for its spectacular grounds and facilities and also because of its ability to accommodate a select few of our closest family members so they could stay on location with us in pre- and post-wedding day. With poolside cocktails, family dinners, and trips to Finns Beach club, it really doesn’t get much better.

There were so many memorable moments, but one that really stands out for me was the wedding morning – the preparation was completely relaxed, allowing me to take in the magnitude of what this day meant. Veuve champagne flowed whilst Beyoncé’s Lemonade album played…my girls and I had a ball. The evening celebrations were the perfect end to our perfect day. Our dance floor was electric and just so much fun, but a particularly special moment of the evening celebrations was the speeches. The emotion, the tears, and the laughter tied together to create a perfect halo of love around not just us, but all of our family and friends.

Although it was our own event, from as early as the morning preparations through to the last song at our evening celebration, both Luke and I felt like VIP guests. It was magical from start to finish. Afterward Luke and I marveled at just how seamlessly the day had unfolded; we were so impressed that it all ‘just happens’ – it felt like a perfectly orchestrated Hollywood movie production. The day moved and turned behind the scenes and was timed to perfection without interrupting us, and we can only attribute this to our phenomenal planner, Karen, and her team. Their professionalism was flawless, and the attention to detail and styling far exceeded our expectations.

My advice for couples considering a destination wedding is this: Absolutely go for it! Most couples comment that the day flies by too quickly, and that they don’t have enough time to take it all in, but with a destination wedding, you can bask in the celebration and the excitement for days.We are thrilled with our decision and would highly recommend it to others.

My greatest advice to others, which was also passed on to me, is that at different moments throughout the day, try to take a minute to stop and look around, to really just feel in that moment. To help you do this, recite in your head little things like… “I’m eating breakfast on my wedding day,” “I’m getting my hair done on my wedding day,” etc. and take time to look at the flowers on the tables and actively take note of all the detail and special moments. Don’t forget to try all the food, sample the cocktails, and be as present as possible. I found it really helped to form markers in my mind and memory, which helps the day not to pass in a blur.

A Romantic Bali Wedding Atop a Cliff

Dripping in florals and romance, atop a cliff in Bali… this can’t be real, can it? Oh yes it can and the (ridiculously pretty) proof is right here before us in these pics by Terralogical. From Cher Ange weddings & eventsThis was a wonderful scenery day on the Uluwatu clifftop! Y and B chose sunny Bali for their destination wedding. The ceremony took place on a hotel clifftop overlooking the ocean. The theme was a pretty white, pink, and peach palette and bountiful blooms, and you can see it all here!

The Views From This Wedding in Bali Can’t Be Beat!

My hubs and I traveled to Bali earlier this year, and it quickly cemented itself as one of our all-time favorite destinations – the photos of this classic Bali beauty planned by Tirtha Bridal will show you why. The ocean views were incredible from the glass chapel ceremony and possibly even better during the gorgeous sunset at the al fresco reception atop a cliff. See more of the picturesque day, from the morning’s traditional tea ceremony to the firework finale, captured by Stepan Vrzala in the Vault.

From Stepan VrzalaStella and Sherman chose the gorgeous beachside cliffs of Uluwatu, Bali as the backdrop for their wedding. The day began with the tradition of playful “gate crashing” games at the Indigo Villa followed by a tea ceremony with their parents at Tirtha Luhur. The party then moved to Tirtha Uluwatu for the wedding ceremony in an elegant glass chapel on the infinity pool overlooking the ocean. The reception was held at breezy cliffside venue Tirtha Luhur, which created a beautiful setting to capture photos of the Bride and Groom cutting their wedding cake and enjoying the sunset. This tranquil scene was followed by an exciting grand entrance as Stella and Sherman walked alongside the pool that was set alight with fireworks and floating candles. They joined the dinner reception in the softly lit garden, and the guests celebrated the beautiful couple under the stars.

From Bride… I’m just really happy that everything turned out great. We’ve been planning it for around a year, and it was everything I always dreamed my perfect wedding would be. We really can’t believe how blessed we were – we’ve learned the sunset is rarely that visible. Everyone was amazingly helpful, from our planner at Thirtha to Stepan and almost everyone involved.

An Enchanting Wedding at the Island of Gods

Bali is one of my favorite destinations – the pristine sandy shores, the rolling waves in the enticingly blue water, the sunny skies, the green rice fields, and the warm hospitality from everyone I met. So it’s no surprise this enchanting “Island of Gods” was the perfect choice for this Australian couple, who wanted to pay homage to their Indonesian heritage on their wedding day. The gorgeous photos by Axioo speak for themselves, so get scrolling, and if you find yourself packing your bags and booking a ticket to paradise after viewing the full gallery (which also contains their e-session), consider yourself warned.

From AxiooIt’s hard to underpin the secret of a successful wedding. But if one has to choose, it all boils down to one singular factor – the couple themselves. While all credits due must be extended to the vendors or the wedding planner, oftentimes it’s the couple who sets the wheels in motion for the making of an extraordinary wedding. The series of stills you’re just saw is the work of Axioo Bali through the art of film photography. So enjoy that uber romantic and surreal feel, while the groom depicted his own tale of what made his wedding, a superbly successful one.

From the Groom… Bali is an homage to our Indonesian roots despite our well-settled living in Sydney. It holds a special significance to us and the close proximity to our current home also weighed into the decision to have the wedding in Bali greatly. Still, the challenge of preparing a wedding from overseas was immense. It was only through the help of our friends back home and their experience that we managed to pull it off splendidly.

Our strategy was to rely mostly on first hand recommendations and carefully select the vendors who had provided their services to our friends, in one way or another. We trusted that these names were professionals who came highly regarded, and true to form, they delivered and more. The result truly spoke for itself!

The last hurdle of the day was the weather, but Bali is known for having year-round sunny skies. I wasn’t entirely worried about the drizzle that morning, and once it cleared up, it was smooth sailing.

Stephanie and I received the best of service from each vendor, from the venue to our trusted photography service, Axioo Bali. To us, the essence of a Bali wedding is about letting your hair down and having a good time. Thus we prioritized a wedding designed for eating, dancing, and interacting with friends and family. Our communion was a matter of enjoyable and relaxed celebration with our loved ones. And for everything that went so well, we remain eternally grateful to everyone involved, for their time, gifts, and well wishes. It was a wonderful day that was well-worth the hard work, and if given the option, I’d gladly do it the same way all over again.

Your Style Guide to a Chic Tropical Wedding

You know Oliver Fly as one of our favorite Paris-based photographers, but today he’s bringing us an inspiration shoot set in exotic Bali, Indonesia. Thoughtfully pieced together by Bali Event Styling, this is a tropical affair done right, and we’re so ready to grab ourselves a coconut drink and dive right in.

From Bali Event Styling… Khayangan Estate is Bali’s — if not Asia’s — quintessential destination wedding venue. Every inch of the property, from the moment one enters through its imposing teak wood gates, evokes an authentic aura of timeless elegance, an otherworldly environment that caters to modern day fantasies.

Our approach to the shoot was fine art with tropical accents melding soft pastels with a mixture of import and local florals and greeneries, stylish natural wood decor – Balinese arch and Louis chairs — with a spritz of gold cutlery, gilded tea lights, and crystal glassware for elegant effect.

Our wear florals featured Peonia, Astilbe, Astrantia, Eucalyptus populus. Eucalyptus nicolii, Bouvardia and Hellebores. The tablescape consisted of the same with additional Eustoma, Rose. and Frangipani, the latter lending a Balinese hint. The Table was layered with a light gray linen table cloth, two-toned silk runners, accented by silk ribbons and soft pink linen napkins.

We positioned Elephant ear leaves, coconuts, and vines at the entrance of the aisles. For the flower shower, we used Frangipani inside a woven basket made from coconut leaves. The natural wood wedding arch with Balinese carvings featured a floral mix of Anemones, Smilax, Astrantia, Ammimajus, Israeli cuscus and Salix.

Last but not least, we created welcome drinks using kelapa muda (young coconuts) with Frangipani flower, leafs, and sporting all natural bamboo straws.

From The Bride…My husband and I just recently got married at a destination wedding in Bali, Indonesia at the magnificent Khayangan Estate on June 3, 2016.

We met at a restaurant in Los Angeles called Fig and Olive when my husband, Max Loong, was in town. He is a TV presenter, actor and host in Southeast Asia and Switzerland as well as a resort owner in Bali called Hidden Hills Villas and has to travel quite a bit for work. I am a Producer holding a Juris Doctorate degree with an emphasis in entertainment. The day after we met he was actually leaving town for work, which allowed us to speak on the phone for 3 weeks getting to know one another.

My initial thought of him was that he was handsome, an exotic mix of Malaysian and Swiss and very confident. I love confidence in a man and that stood out. He also had the most heart melting smile I have ever seen. He says his initial reaction was that he found me very attractive and completely his type, but what made him fall in love with me is my kind heart and how I care and feel for others. That I can’t kill an ant, and literally have to pick it up to put it outside, or when I see an old man sitting by himself I start crying. We also both make each other laugh and can be completely ourselves, goofy and silly around one another, without having to think twice!

Since I was planning the wedding from Los Angeles there were a few challenges. The time difference and different pace at which those in the tropics work being the main issues. I’m a perfectionist and knew that we wanted our wedding to be interactive and have a lot of entertainment elements, so coming up with creative and unique ideas was really important to us. We also knew from the get go that we wanted Travel to be our theme since it was not only a destination wedding, but over the past 3 years travel has been a big part of our lives and still very much is. Lighting is also something that we knew, as producers, enhances the environment incredibly, so we wanted to ensure a lot of lights and candles to set the magical ambience for our family and friends. We came across a vendor that provided this really unique service where they make oversized paper flowers that look like they are growing from the ground. We felt that was a really original idea and different, so made sure that was implemented for a backdrop, against lights, for anyone that wanted a photo op. Planning this wedding was so much work for me. It was done over the course of a year. I am a very detail oriented and know what I like, so spent a lot of time researching, coming up with ideas, and figuring out ways to make the wedding more “entertaining” for our guests, as we felt this is what people remember the most. All in all, they say renovating a home and planning a wedding can be two of the most stressful times of your life, but we did it and are very happy with the turn out. In the end, the time and effort is worth it.

On the wedding day I wore two stunning gowns by haute couture designer Inbal Dror. The ceremony dress was a blush corset, fit and flare gown with a long immaculate train that was a classy and sexy look. It had incredible detail on the dress with white lace and light beading. The reception dress was also by Inbal Dror, and it was a long sleeved, white, intricate fully beaded dress with the most incredible design and detail on the back. It had a plunging v neck, with flowy and loose fabric on the front providing an ethereal and elegant look.

Our theme was “travel” and we had some really unique and creative elements that surrounded travel, both Max and I are producers and TV presenter/hosts so wanted to ensure production value on our wedding day. We started off with the invitations to our guests being Passports. On the wedding day we incorporated PAN AM style stewardesses at the “check-in” desk as our guests arrived, where they handed Boarding Passes to each person which designated their Table Seating (named after countries that my husband and I have visited). The Boarding Passes were personalized individually to have the “Departure” country each of our guests were departing from with their “Arrival” all being Bali. Our guest sign in book was two painted floral globes in our color palette with pastel luggage holding vintage postcards that our guests could sign and leave messages for us on. Behind this vignette we had stubs, boarding passes, pamphlets, etc. from all of our travels over the past 3 years hanging from the ceiling. During the cocktail hour we had a very large “Arrival” sign, with various countries on it, designed and decorated to go along with all of our stationery where people were able to rip off the right side of their boarding pass, fill in their information, and drop it into a slit on the large board for a lottery.

We also had fireworks that went off in the middle of our first dance that were stunning to watch as well as a local Kecak dance of 30 performers that suddenly came out on stage once the lights faded to black. The performers were a highlight. Absolutely entertaining and one of the more traditional cultural dances that guests want to see when they are in Bali.

Our color palette was blush, creams, light yellows, white, greenery with a pop of gold. We wanted an elegant wedding with a lot of lights and candles, and most importantly great performances. After all the speeches, cake cutting and dinner, Max and I went on the stage to introduce the transition into party mode and told our guests we had a surprise for them. They were all going to get “shots”. That was the DJ’s cue to play the “Shots” song by LMFAO, where bartenders suddenly walked out and handed glowing shots to everyone as pyrotechnics went off around the stage to signify PARTY MODE!

We had several videos that played throughout the night. One which was our Same Day Edit, that was a stunner (link at the bottom of this email) that everyone absolutely loved and still can’t stop talking about to date. It’s impressive when a company can turn around a beautifully edited piece on the day in just 45 minutes. We had Max’s family provide us a surprise video from all the cousins on their side, and one of the more important videos which is very dear to our hearts is the remembrance video of Max’s father that passed away and wasn’t able to be with us on the day. This was an incredibly emotional moment, as you can imagine, but extremely beautiful to honor him in this way.

The wedding day was spectacular. It was incredible, emotional, beautiful, fun and entertaining all in one. One of the stand out special moments was my brother’s speech. It was the most hilarious speech I have heard in my life. He actually somehow found my diary from when I was a kid and decided to read it openly to our guests, creatively integrating it with our life now. The things that I wrote when I was 7 or 8 years old were hilarious. Of course, mainly about boys! …which led to me finally meeting my incredible handsome husband (still feels so weird to say “husband”)!

We had received SO many compliments on the wedding and that it had all of the elements necessary, which was incredibly flattering to hear. Those words really made us feel great when it came to the end, as it justified all the time and hard work spent leading up to the big day. We actually had 4 events surrounding our wedding, from our Welcome Party/BBQ at Hidden Hills Villas, Chinese Tea Ceremony, the wedding and an all white beach party at Karma Beach the following night.

This E-Sesh Will Convince You to Runaway to the Rainforest

And just like that I’m off to Bali just so I can recreate this enchanting engagement session. Complete with THREE gowns, a monkey, AND one adorable couple it’s almost too much to bear! But bear it we will, for we’re completely smitten with this gallery from Megan W Photography. From the heartachingly beautiful Flora Botanica Designs bouquet, to the seriously how is this real scenery, it’s all in The Vault!

From Flora Botanica DesignsThe word Bali screams the beautiful sandy beach and the coastal lines, but besides its breathtaking scenery, it’s truly called the Island of God. With hundreds of temples in the Island, the Balinese takes ceremonies and worshipping very seriously and impart this as part of their daily living.

The Balinese have a distinct and inspiring arts and architecture. Their walls and reliefs, along with the deep orange and mix with grey are magnetic. We were so lucky to have this inspirational shoot happened at a neighborhood temple’s yard and along the edge of beautiful rice terraces.

This couple is not a professional model, they are real couple who are truly in love can’t take their eyes off of each other. So everything was real and natural; their smile, the chemistry and even the set where these amazing shots take place was never properly manicured to its perfection. Everything was just the way it is.

Megan of Megan W Photography successfully captured beautiful images of the set, the couple’s chemistry and everything that is here delights the senses. Her supreme accomplishment is having created great photographs that are unforced and casual.

Tania of Flora Botanica Designs help to set the set with some casual affairs of her hand bouquet, large, lush, airy with a tropical look. She chose some subtle colors to highlight the strong features of the environment. We have to let the nature wins!

From The Bride…Anton and I have started dating 9 years ago and when we had a mini getaway to Bali a year ago, he proposed and I said yes!

Just like any other recently engaged girls, our eyes are suddenly fixated on color swatches, pretty flowers, white gowns and two of the most tapped phone apps are Instagram and Pinterest. That began my journey in wedding planning. Anton, my then-fiancè, got the chance once in a while to get periodical updates on what our wedding designs were going to be like. We were not a fan of big, ballroom style wedding so we thought a small and intimate soiree would be ideal.

In my line of works as a graphic designer, I designed and made a layout of wedding albums for a wedding photographers and looking at hundreds of indoor wedding, I wanted to have an open-air party with a panoramic background.

Living and working in Jakarta, we flew to Bali, a place where our family and friends would get the chance to spend the weekend and attending our weddings. Among lots of beautiful resorts and villas in this holiday Island, we fell in love with The Latitude, a private residence with a big infinity pool, drop-dead-gorgeous Indian ocean scenery, plenty of space for our 100 guests and layers of terraces for our Holy Matrimony. Everything about that place drew us in.

To me, choosing colours is not difficult. I am always a fan of white and gold ornaments and I picked that as our theme colour. I picked a design that was aesthetically beautiful but at the same time cost-savvy with matching menus, place cards, and gift tags were printed with the same theme colour. We want our wedding stationery to be timeless, and we thought that gold and white is never outdated.

I felt that everything had to be properly designed and coordinated and also equally important for us to find vendors who are not only experienced but also share the same vision of what we wanted. For sure, we wanted the chandeliers to match the golden ornaments on our wedding stationery. We had lots of candles, flowers on golden stands and flickering tea light candles on the table. My wedding gown was the prettiest creation I have seen. I’m always a fan of lace and pearls, and Soko Wiyanto designed what I really like, a simple mermaid style with an off-shoulder neckline with lots of beads, pearls and french lace.

Among other vendors that worked with us, my friendship with Bernardo from Bernardo Pictura, came as an immediate hiring. I felt that being friends with the photographers ease the wedding day tension and able to bring that natural smile and giggle. His laid back attitude was a potion for our parents and bridesmaids who felt that they may not look perfect on camera, and we love his style of photographs; modern, candid, and beautiful without too much trying.

As our wedding happened to take place during the rainy season, we installed a tent to be on a safe side. Tania from Flora Botanica Designs, hung beautiful draperies and chandeliers. Together with the 20 chandeliers, dining tables which are set up in a row, golden tiffany chairs, and a big wedding cake, at night it felt grand, like a fairytale, just like a typical grand dinner in a palace we see on movies and TVs. I adore a classic white theme wedding, the one that when you look the photos thirty years later, it would still look beautiful and never out-of-fashion, and when she incorporated a little touch of greens in the arrangement, it was a genius idea, truly beyond what I had imagined. It was romantic and breathtaking. Hiring her was the best decision ever.

The best moment during our wedding was our Holy Matrimony. I had been dreaming about this before, walking down the aisle with a perfect weather, sunny but breezy. The temperature was rather uncomfortable days before the wedding. It had been hot with unpredictable showers and I couldn’t imagine standing in the heat. I was lucky! It rained for almost an hour and when it stopped, it was pleasantly cool and breezy. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect weather than that. We walked down the aisle with a small church choir, surrounded by close family and friends and truly it was the moment we had been dreaming about.

Our reception was a blast. Our MC was so entertaining without being too intrusive and we hired a DJ at the end of the night. Well of course, with Jack Daniels, Vodka, and wines from dinner, we had an absolute dance party. It was a night to remember over and over again, and if we have the chance, we’d spend our anniversary with the same people reliving the day.

This Is Why You Need To Get Married in Bali

They met by chance, decked out in costumes, but thankfully they followed their feelings, and just one look through these pics by Angga Permana, it’s clear they made the right choice. The look of pure love between these cuties gives us butterflies and we haven’t even gotten to the gorgeous orchids and more from Bloomz Fine Flowers, all put together and planned by the talented Cher Ange. If you ever doubted the beauty of Bali, doubt no more – it’s all in our Vault this way!

From the Bride… Our meeting was through pure happenstance. He had just taken a career break from his job in Sydney and decided to move to Beijing on a lark and hoped to improve on his Chinese. It was his first time living overseas by himself. As it turns out, one of his classmates in language school was dating a good friend of mine from university. It was at his dress-up birthday party that we were introduced to each other. We chatted pretty much all night and found out that we were actually neighbours in Sydney for a few years but our paths never crossed until that night.

From the Groom… My initial thought was that she was easily the most beautiful girl at the party, although she did have an angry looking resting face. Whatever. I decided that I wasn’t going to approach to her. However, once I did speak to her, I thought she was sweet and had a great sense of humour. Definitely someone I would like to get to know better.

From the Bride… As we met at a dress-up party, my first impression of Kevin was that his costume was showing a lot of legs! After we were introduced and started taking, I felt he was articulate, well mannered and genuine. So when he asked for my number before he left the party, I thought he was a nice enough guy and wouldn’t mind seeing him again.

About our proposal… It was meant to be a surprise proposal during a romantic candlelit dinner on the beach in Koh Samui. However, the elements conspired against us and created a perfect storm of gale force winds and crashing waves which prevented the on-beach diner. In the end, when we got back to our hotel after dinner, he asked me to watch a short video he had prepared which showed our life together for the past couple of years. The video was sweet and incredibly touching. When I finished watching, he was already bent down on one knee and he asked if I would do him the honour of marrying him.

The entire planning process started when we flew to Bali for a hectic weekend (about a year ahead of our proposed wedding date) of venue inspections, taste-testing and meet wedding planners. After we returned home, we booked the venue and engaged Karen of Cher Ange Weddings. The next ten months was a bit of a blur with endless emails, mood boards, seeking quotes, various selections and Skype sessions with Karen. Although the process of planning a Bali wedding from Australia was always going to be challenging, having Karen’s expertise and local knowledge to guide us was a tremendous help.

The first thing we did when we woke up on the wedding day was to see if it was still raining, checked weather reports and made a panicked phone call to Karen ordering a marquee. Not exactly the ideal start to one’s wedding day but Karen swiftly took care of everything allowing us to just enjoy the day!

We separated into different villas shortly after breakfast so the bridal parties could get ready separately. Having my bridesmaids all together getting ready was actually pretty special because we live in different cities now and it has been several years since we have all been together at the one time. The getting ready process was half long overdue catchup, half getting pampered. The boys got ready much quicker than we did so I think they went and welcomed guests and took photos at the welcome drinks.

After all the guests were seated, the string quartet cued the entrance of the bridesmaids and then it was my turn! Holding onto my dad’s arm as he walked me down the stairs to the flower petaled aisle, I think he was more nervous than I was. I remember telling him to slow down – it’s not easy walking down a steep staircase in wedges and a flowing wedding dress!

The ceremony itself was brief but heartfelt. Kevin and I exchanged our personalised vows and then we signed on the dotted line. The MC actually told us that he was getting “misty” during our vows.

The entrance of the bridal party was to “Sugar” by Maroon 5 which set the party mood for the reception. Dinner was a delicious three course fusion cuisine. The guests also enjoyed a selection of handmade desserts at the gorgeously decorated dessert bar.

After the formalities, I remember there was ample toasting, lots of laughs, plenty of dancing, being pulled into the pool, followed by more dancing….oh and also playing in the photo booth! We wanted a relaxed elegance and classical affair which would complement Khayangan Estate’s stunning cliff-top scenery and character-filled grounds. Soft neutral colours were used throughout our decoration with touches of brass to really stand out in the candle light.

There were also some subtle personal touches throughout, such as the wedding invites were custom hand-drawn illustration of Kevin and I, by Aimee Paints based in the UK. The table name cards were tied to a rustic brass key and then hung on a restored timber door for the guests to individually discover where they were seated, and photos of our travels and lives together were displayed on a couple of strings using mini wooden pegs so guests could get to know our story better!

We chose “I do I do” by Charlie Mars to have our first dance to. It is relaxed and mellow and has simple yet sweet lyrics. It is the type of song that just makes you feel warm and happy. Plus it is also a song from one of our favourite shows, “How I Met Your Mother”!

Towards the end of the night, after all the formalities were done and many of the guests had taken to cooling off in the pool beside the dance floor, the Best Man said to Kevin, “I honestly can’t remember the last time everyone had so much fun!” I think that sentiment perfectly described the mood at the end of the night. Yes, the venue, the decor, the dresses were something out of a movie or magazine, but what truly made our wedding day special were the family, relatives and friends who made the effort to come to Bali to let us simply have fun with the ones we love.

From Cher Ange… A lovely summer wedding in Bali that was all about blush gold sequins, whites and greens. Elegant and romantic with a touch of Bollywood (honour to the Indian roots of the groom). The bride and groom live in NY and had 80 guests that attended from all over the world. It was a beautiful beachfront ceremony that was followed by cocktail and canapés for sunset around the beach front pool and Balinese dances. Dinner was under fairy lights, we had fulfilled all the trees and the party moved on to the dance floor until midnight.

From the Bride… I’m normally the planner in our relationship, but Gaurav decided he wanted to surprise me for our next trip. What came next was a whirlwind trip to Europe that kicked off with a proposal at the Hotel Caesar Augustus in Capri, Italy. He had organized a private dinner in a cliffside alcove that overlooked a panoramic view of the Amalfi coastline at sunset. Good thing I said “yes,” because the surprises kept on coming with visits to Sardegna, Lisbon, Madeira, and London before returning home!

Gaurav had always dreamed of getting married in Bali; I always knew I would get married on the beach. With our families scattered across the US, Canada, India, England, and Korea, we knew there would be travel involved for most of our guests so we thought, ‘Bali, let’s do it’! There was no question about finding a planner on the ground and were thankful when Karen and Cher Ange came recommended through a friend. Karen was a godsend; having grown up in France and the US before settling in Bali, she had a taste for western preferences and a wealth of Balinese resources to execute a couple’s vision of their special day. In our first Skype sessions and emails, we expressed our desire for a contemporary setting accented by clean lines and a white and gold palette. And, of course, a little sparkle never hurt!

With hundreds of hours of travel, stopovers, and time zones between our 75 guests, our number one objective was to thank our family and friends by giving them an experience they’d (hopefully) never forget.

We narrowed down the venue to Villa Atas Ombak, a stunning beachfront private villa in Seminyak, Bali. As you may have guessed, we’re fond of surprises so Karen helped us incorporate a few surprise touches for our guests which included a welcome “white party” at Potato Head Beach Club, traditional Balinese dancers, a whole roasted pig, fire dancers, and a post-wedding pool BBQ! Gaurav’s personal touches included a brigade of flavored shishas (hookahs) and a drone from our videographers! Since our beloved French Bulldog, Jamón, wasn’t able to join us in Bali, we created a logo of him that was emblazoned on our wedding favors – mini sriracha bottles (our fave condiment) – and had a marzipan replica of him that sat on top of our wedding cake!

Wedding dress shopping was by far my favorite planning activity (as evidenced by not one, but
three dresses!). I must have gone to at least 7 boutiques and tried on dozens of dresses, but in my mind I always went back to this Lazaro ballgown that featured an ivory and sherbet ombre train and gorgeous beading on a fitted bodice. I was nervous about being too hot so I opted for a lovely fitted blush satin gown accented with buttons all down the back and a double French bustle by Anna Maier as a reception dress. While I was shopping for the reception dress, my eye caught a gold Jenny Packham babydoll sample that had only ever walked the runway. It was a one-of-a-kind bundle of French lace, tulle, and gold sequins. I just knew that it was the perfect dress to get the party started with! Not to be outdone, Gaurav had two custom tuxedos from Tom Ford. A midnight blue one (the same one worn by James Bond in Skyfall, natch) for the ceremony and a white dinner jacket for the reception.

Our favorite moment of the day was being surrounded by our friends and family, who had lit sparklers as we danced our first dance to Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love.” Since that was our last formal “obligation” for the wedding, we were excited to get the party started! We were able to keep the party going all night long in the villa and even had some guests (ok, and me) enjoy a late night swim. It was truly a modern-day fairytale come true!
