Playful, Sentimental Touches Enveloped in All the Golden Hues at Darlington House

The Planning
Design / Vibe / Vision

{Still waters run deep} Paying homage to their shared love of family traditions of going camping and Katie fishing with her dad, we created a subtle nod to the fishing spot where his ashes were lovingly scattered and Patrick proposed, while alluding to the depth of love that they have found in each other. Creating an intimate and happy space with playful touches enveloped in all the golden hues that a sunrise brings with the dawn of a new day, we layered in soft linens and florals that appear to be pulled from a blossoming riverbank. Small water moments, wood textures, and candlelight that dances in the breeze offered interest as well as another surprising and thoughtful element, such as wooden fish that we're tied to the ceremony chairs, and a fishing escort wall where guests could fish for their favors!

Proposal Story

Bride: We were on a camping trip at Jalama Beach with my family last October. We go every year, but this trip was to spread my dad's ashes. My dad grew up camping here too, so it's been a family tradition for 3 generations now. He always told my sister and me that he wanted his ashes to be spread there, so we let him go around a big rock on the beach that he loved to fish on. 2 mornings later, Patrick and I made coffee and went for a beach walk. He stopped in front of the rock and proposed. It was so perfect and meant so much to me that he wanted my dad to be a part of it.

Specialty Cocktails: {a kiss me like a stranger} to play to Patrick's favorite book made as a custom cocktail by Miho made up of Tequila, lime, cucumber, sea salt, and edible flower {Sweet talk} margarita playing to Katie being able to sweet talk Patrick into anything including making margaritas! :) #421 (custom cocktail of vodka, elderflower, grapefruit, lime, and bitters) playing to a new beginning, and this number being their lucky number and the room number at the first hotel they stayed in together. They always request this room number whenever they stay at a hotel. Even her engagement ring is appropriately 4.21 carats! :)

Florals & Decor

White and green blooms with garden roses, peach tulips, ranunculus, sweet pea, and cosmos daisies. Florals in fishing baskets lined the ceremony aisle as clusters of wooden fish hung from the outside aisle chairs to once again give love to the fishing spot where they got engaged. A ceremony arch appeared to grow organically at the front. Lush greenery and rattan scalloped pendants hung above striped linen tables. We carried the stripe and scallop motif throughout the event, from concrete scallop tables that we curated and brought in for this event to scalloped framed table numbers and darling yellow stripe chairs. Tabletop in summery shades of butter yellow and peach plates adorned each setting, accented by twisty honey hue candles and small scalloped table lamps.

Wedding Cake

Sophisticated two-tier wedding cake via Hey There Cupcake with oversized wafer flowers and scalloped and striped detailing paired with a display of mini-desserts of black tie bars, cheesecakes, and lemon meringue tarts.

Special Detail #1

Escort Display: {Catching feels} As a special experiential moment, we called on Back Up to help custom-create an interactive escort wall that played to the time spent on the water. It held clusters of hanging fish calligraphed with guest names alphabetically and became a major moment and display piece! During the reception, this display also served to invite guests to "fish for their favors" and catch Swedish fish candy, a fortune fish, or a boot. :) The little ones returned again and again after the adults got their turns!

Special Detail #2

{Absorbing all the love} As a playful nod to the couple's habit of writing love notes to each other on paper towels, we asked guests to write their wishes and blessings on paper towels with Sharpies that they could later hold on to and treasure in a book!
