The Blueprint for Making a Major Statement With Bold Color on Your Wedding Day

The Planning
Design / Vibe / Vision

We wanted something unique, bold, loud, colorful, and FUN. We wanted something that really embodied who we are as a couple and wanted our guests to feel that in every aspect of the design and detail. We really wanted something fun and different which is why we went so colorful. Also, our wedding being in the beginning of spring time played a part in deciding on color too. Alex took that up a notch by suggesting every event be one colorway. The welcome party was purple, wedding day yellow, pool party orange and Shabbat dinner orange.

Proposal Story
We got engaged on January 15, , 2021 in Tulum, Mexico at Papaya Playa Project Hotel. Scott knew that Annie would enjoy a weekend getaway to one of their favorite Mexico destinations, and that she preferred the proposal to be just the two of them. Scott got down on one knee as the sun was setting at the roof of their casita room where a jacuzzi and stunning ocean views laid as the backdrop. We spent the rest of the weekend celebrating while exploring Tulum and lounging on the beach. It was very romantic and special!
The Fashion
Wedding Gown
Wedding dress designer: Monique Lhuilier Fabric/description: Tuileries wedding dress How did you know it was the one? At first I thought I wanted something super simple, which just shows how much you change your mind through the wedding planning process! I walked up to Warren Barron Bridal in Dallas, which was the second location I tried dresses on at, and saw the Tuileries dress in the window. My mom and I stopped in our tracks obsessing over how gorgeous it was but agreed that it’s not a true traditional wedding dress. I tried on one very simple white strapless gown and was encouraged to try on a floral veil to spice it up. I remember asking the woman helping me, “is it okay to wear a floral veil?! Doesn’t it have to be all white?” She looked at me and said, “this is your wedding, you can do and wear whatever you want.” From that moment on something clicked - I did not have to keep with any traditions that did not fit, I could plan my wedding however I wanted and wear whatever I wanted. I immediately asked to try on the dress that was in the window, and that was it for me! I felt the most like me in that dress. My mom cried, I cried, it was perfect.
Bridesmaid Dresses
Annie told her friends to wear muted pastel colors for pictures. I wanted everyone in solids to not distract from my dress and choose colors that would highlight my dress.
The Details
Food & Drink
We wanted our food selection to have all of our favorites. We served short ribs and salmon for the main course. The happy hour had plenty of appetizers. To refuel our guests before the after party, we had French fries, donuts and espresso martinis passed out on the dance floor. There was a dessert table with all sorts of goodies like macaroons, donuts, cakes and cookies placed at the back of the reception room. And for late night snacks, the after party had all of the favorites from fried Mac and cheese balls, sliders and more French fries of course. Did you have a signature cocktail? We had signature cocktails at each event to match the color of the event. Tying in all the monochromatic event designs was done strategically, and one way was with the signature cocktails. Offered exclusively at entry, it excited guests to see what was done whether the event was the formal wedding, intimate Shabbat dinner, or casual pool party. Wednesday: champagne with pea flower Thursday: lemon drop martinis Friday pool party: blood orange margaritas
Florals & Decor
My bouquet was monochromatic yellow and artfully designed by none other than Remi + Gold. It was important to have it pop out as a statement to align with the drama of the yellow platform aisle, yellow aisle florals, and yellow tones strategically placed in the reception. My boutonniere was also monochromatic yellow tied off with a pink ribbon. The shade of pink perfectly matched our ceremony and reception chairs, as well as our customized Kippahs.
Wedding Cake
We decided to not have a wedding cake, we did not want to do anything to interrupt the flow of the party.
Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs
Picking the song Annie would walk down the aisle too. We chose “Across the Room” by Odesza and Leon Bridges. This song was playing while Scott first told Annie he was falling in love with her.
Special Detail #1
Annie was originally skeptical about choosing a hotel as their wedding venue, she wanted a small intimate feel, nothing too traditional. As none of our guests live in Austin and it being a four day long wedding extravaganza, it was really important for us to make sure our guests could experience Austin to the fullest while getting to know one another (this would be the first time our friends and most family members would be meeting!). We thought what better way to see Austin than stay in the heart of it, in the middle of all the action, right on South Congress Street. South Congress Hotel was the perfect fit, it gave us the small intimate boutiquey feeling we wanted, where our guests would be constantly bumping into each other in the hotel and on the street and had all of the amenities to fuel the four day long party. Not to mention the chic design of the hotel, fabulous rooftop pool and delicious multiple restaurants. Geraldine’s was also an easy choice for us. We have stayed at Hotel Van Zandt multiple times and always loved the feel and vibe of Geraldine’s.
