'Hamptons Chic' Wedding Inspiration Nancy Meyers Would Approve of at Naismith House

The Planning
The Inspiration

Inspired by the lusciousness and simplicity of nature, Alex Baillie-David, owner of Baillie-David & Co., a wedding planning and design company, worked to create a design that felt as budding and colourful as a garden. From the locally-made beeswax candles and adorable seed packet favours to the wild butterfly place cards, each element was thoughtfully curated to create a sense of organic beauty. Alex Baillie-David of Baillie-David & Co. chose a soft pastel colour palette with a focus on elegant French blue and sunset peach, culminating in an aesthetic that falls somewhere between a classic English garden party and Hamptons chic. Even the hydrangea baskets, reminiscent of the iconic gardens of Nantucket, were chosen to mimic the harvest of freshly picked blooms. It was only fitting that the editorial be captured on film, as film photography captures the true essence of colour and texture.

The Venue

Featuring an 1870’s luxuriously restored barn overlooking 45 beautiful acres of rolling farmland and forest, Evermore is rustic elegance at its finest. You will enjoy lounging comfortably with your guests in the barnyard veranda, grand tent, and French provincial-inspired courtyards, sipping fine cocktails and drinking in sumptuous farmland and the charming Naismith House. Dr. James Naismith is the inventor of basketball which has grown into one of the world's most popular sports. The Naismith House has special heritage designation and is apart of Canadian history.

Florals & Decor
With bouquets and arrangements that seemed as if they were freshly picked from a meadow, Wild Bloem Studios masterfully continued the garden-inspired theme into the floral design. The floral selection was the epitome of late spring abundance, featuring a harmonious blend of peach ranunculus, soft pink stock, Japanese anemones, buttery yellow roses, dusty blue hydrangea and delphinium, garden-fresh snapdragons, and locally foraged spirea. Each bloom was carefully chosen to create a whimsical yet elegant aesthetic, perfect for the romantic setting of the Naismith House. To enhance the natural and organic feel, Wild Bloem Studios used handmade ceramic compotes for their arrangements. Complementing these were crystal-cut glass bud vases, which added a touch of refined English garden elegance. This combination of elements created a stunning visual effect, capturing the essence of a dreamy, timeless garden. Wild Bloem Studios is deeply committed to sustainability, which is at the heart of their floral design practices. Proudly foam-free, they avoid using traditional floral foam, which is made from harmful chemicals like formaldehyde and contains microplastics that harm the environment. Instead, Wild Bloem Studios employs a mixture of chicken wire and OshunPouches as the mechanics for their floral arrangements. OshunPouches are 100% sustainable, biodegradable, and home-compostable, serving as an eco-friendly alternative to the floral foam. Another way Wild Bloem Studios incorporates sustainable practices into their business is by using locally grown and in-season flowers for the majority of their designs. For this particular styled shoot, most of the florals were sourced from The Ottawa Flower Collective. This cooperative group comprises nine local flower farms in the Ottawa area, offering weekly shopping time slots to ensure florists have access to the best in-season blooms. This practice not only supports local farmers but also ensures the freshest and most vibrant flowers are used in every arrangement. About Wild Bloem Studios Wild Bloem Studios specializes in creating bespoke floral designs that capture the beauty of nature. Known for their loose and airy arrangements that evoke the feel of a wild, blooming garden, they bring a touch of natural elegance to every event. Their commitment to sustainability and using locally sourced, in-season flowers sets them apart, making each of their creations not only beautiful but also environmentally conscious.
Favorite Design Element
One of our favourite design elements was pairing the blossom linens with the organic textures of the natural beeswax candles. It really draws in those earthy spring tones and textures. Establishing healthy thought patterns regarding sustainability, sourcing locally and ethically is something of beauty. Bringing the community together to create a stunning event without a large footprint is something we should all keep in mind.
