Yijia and Huck’s wedding was a romantic garden affair at the Chicago History Museum, where the venue’s classic elegance and grandeur—highlighted by its black and white checkerboard floor and timeless architecture—blended effortlessly with soft, organic garden elements. Delicate, all-white floral arrangements created an enchanting atmosphere, while touches of greenery in the bridesmaid dresses, table decor, and escort board added a fresh, airy vibrance. Intricate lace details in the linens and my wedding dress evoked a sense of classic, royal sophistication. The ambiance was intimate and relaxed, seamlessly merging garden romance with timeless sophistication, making it a truly unforgettable celebration.

[field title=”Proposal Story”](from the couple) We met back in 2014 during a physics class at the University of Illinois. Huck had noticed me from our first lab, but it wasn’t until a month later, when we ended up at the same discussion table, that we introduced ourselves. After class, he asked for my WeChat, and that’s where our story began. Fast forward to June 2019, we were on a trip to Alaska. I had a feeling he might propose, but I didn’t know when. One day, we took a helicopter ride to a glacier with just the pilot and a photographer. We explored, took photos, and admired the scenery, but still no proposal. Finally, in the center of the glacier, with the photographer ready, Huck got down on one knee. Using a metaphor from our first physics class, he said in Mandarin, ‘I am a planet around you.’ I said ‘yes,’ and he slipped the ring on my finger.[/field]

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]Their wedding cake was a beautiful creation by ECBG Studio. It featured a custom design in a soft green palette, adorned with pressed florals that tied in perfectly with their garden theme, making it as much a piece of art as a dessert.[/field]

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]For their readings, we included the poem ‘A Beam’ by Chinese poet Bei Dao. This poem, through its concise language, explores the relationships between time, the future, and memory, evoking a sense of serenity and depth. It added a meaningful and introspective touch to the ceremony. Their music playlist was curated and played by Toast & Jam DJs, with ‘Lucky Me’ by Jake Miller serving as a beautiful reflection of our relationship.[/field]
