A Minimalistic Colorful Wedding With Guests From All Over the World

The Planning
Design / Vibe / Vision
This wedding design was the perfect fusion of minimal, bold, sophisticated and playful! The crisp white and neutral tones paired with the bold ombre floral of the tablescape below and lush greenery adorned ceiling above was the perfect juxtaposition
Proposal Story
One night, in the fall of 2021, William took me out for dinner in Atlanta (where we lived at the time), and we ordered a bottle of red with our steaks. For dessert, we opted for espresso martinis, and enjoyed conversation about what the next year ahead looked like for us... About half way through William's last drink, he asked if I thought it'd be fun if he proposed on the night of an upcoming concert (which was a little less than 3 months away, on 11/11) and I couldn't believe he was about to give away such a big secret! I covered my ears and told him not to give it away, but a week later, his father asked for my dad's email address so he could share tickets to the concert with him and I thought for sure it was a done deal. On the day of, I got my nails done, received a blowout at the hair salon, and had butterflies in my stomach all day long. This day was already special enough for us, it was the day we closed on our new home, a historic church-renovated-house in downtown Charleston, SC, and when he came in from work with flowers and champagne, I figured this was the moment. But after an hour or so, I realized he wasn't showering and just knew that wasn't something he would skip out on before such an important evening for us. I asked him flat out... "Are you not going to shower?", to which he responded, "No, why would I shower right before a big concert tonight? I'll probably just get sweaty" With genuine confusion, I tilted my head to the side and asked him, "Are you not proposing tonight?" The night turned out to be such a fun night regardless, but I did make a promise to myself that I wouldn’t be so sure of it happening the way I had ever again. A little over a month later, the week before Christmas and during the same week that we moved into our new house, we were invited to a party on a boat. I thought for sure I would have known when he would do it, but I still think that him doing it in the same week we moved into a new house is what threw me off! William and I were walking hand in hand toward the boats when I saw a helicopter in a field… We were headed for the helicopter, and before I knew it, he was down on one knee inviting me to fly around the place we’d now call our home, and asking me to take on the rest of our lives together. When the helicopter landed, our families were cheering us on, a photographer was there to take photos, and we were popping champagne near the Charleston bridge overlooking the water. Shortly after, we met all of our closest friends downtown in the champagne room of Hotel Bennett. It may not have happened when I thought it was going on on November 11th before a Rolling Stones concert, but when it did, it was absolutely perfect. Just one week before my birthday, on December 17th of 2021, and the same week we moved into an old church in the Holy City. It was the most important question he’d ever asked, the most important answer I’d ever given, and the first day of the rest of our lives. That day will always be remembered as one of our absolute favorites of all time.
The Fashion
Wedding Gown
The bride wore an iconic lace, high neck dress with a dramatic sleeve transition from the ceremony to the reception which we loved!
Bridesmaid Dresses
The bridal party wore an array of bold colored and patterned dresses. Each member selected their own dress and added to the personal details sprinkled throughout the wedding day.
The Details
Food & Drink
Paying homage to the Charleston backdrop, guests dined on garlic seared shrimp and a local seasonal catch. To add in a nod to the groom’s European palate, guests also were surprised with frites as a family style served side to all wedding guests and the sweetest “thank god it comes with fries” note from the bride & groom (which paired with their, "TGIF / Thank God It's Forever" slogan throughout the special day.) The napkins also included a sweet note, "A 5/5 Kind of Day" along with the date underneath: 5.5.23
Florals & Decor
Minimalistic neutral décor such as textured white linens and white-washed wood created the perfect balance for bold, ombre florals and the most impactful sea of greenery suspended above in their reception tent. Brittaney's bouquet was full of crisp white lilac blooms that complimented her stunning lace gown.
Wedding Cake
Brittaney and William had a vibrant heart shaped cake covered in fresh berries. This single tiered cake was almost two feet in diameter and definitely packed a punch both in visual appeal and in taste!
Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs
They flew in the insanely talented DJ/Sax combo “Max the Sax” for their wedding weekend from Europe. There wasn’t an empty space on the dance floor all night long, and he has become a sensation among all of their closest friends and family, with one family friend even asking for his contact to book him for an event in the future! He was ALL TIME.
Special Detail #1
Brittaney and William's love story is "Belgian boy meets all-American girl," going back 11 years to when they met at the University of South Carolina and leading up to their epic wedding where guests joined from all over the world (including Belgium, London, Africa, Switzerland, Dominican Republic, Chile, and Mexico) to celebrate their love!
Special Detail #2
With the majority of William's family being overseas, most of the weddings that we go to for his family members are in Europe, so it's no wonder them look forward to the opportunity to celebrate a wedding in America when the time comes... Since we met at the University in South Carolina, and because Charleston has such a special place in our hearts, we knew that it had to be here. To make it all worth everyone's time and worth the long trip, we celebrated for 3 days by having the Welcome Party at the William Aiken on Thursday, May 4th, the wedding ceremony on Friday, May 5th at Saint Mary Catholic Church followed by the reception at Lowndes Grove, and an all-white boat party on Saturday, May 6th
