A Modern Twist on Classic Southern Flair in Charleston
The Planning
The Inspiration
The inspiration began from the planner's love for all things Charleston. SSAA has been all over the country & beyond but there is something special to be said about Charleston and the charm that it has to offer. The William Aiken House sets the perfect tone for a southern yet classical wedding and was the perfect backdrop for this styled shoot.
The Venue
This styled shoot took place at the William Aiken House in the heart of Downtown Charleston. This southern historical gem is nestled on the town’s popular King Street. When you step onto the grounds you are immediately surrounded by the charm of the colorful buildings, the breathtaking grounds & gardens, and the magnificently detailed inside. A true South Carolina gem.

Wedding Gown
We featured 2 traditional wedding gowns in this shoot as well as a short reception dress with 3D florals. These gowns were from Lovely Bride Charleston located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. We even featured a black tulle gown at the end from Styled Gowns for something fun and unexpected! Our groom wore a suit from a Downtown Charleston local shop, Berlin’s for Men.

Florals & Decor
We took a classical and southern, yet modern twist approach on florals and decor. Again, the venue colors were a huge driving factor for all of these elements. Oak and Fig Floral incorporated lush greenery, and soft blush tones while Curated Events Charleston helped set the tone of the shoot with their black & rattan collection, delicate grey smokey glassware, and different textured place settings & flatware. We even incorporated a grey champagne tower from their collection. Linens from Nuage Designs & perfectly detailed menus and paper goods by Still Waters Paperie completed this awe-inspiring look.
Favorite Design Element
The colors here were our favorite design element. We fell in love with the way the blacks, soft blush tones, & yellows played off of each other and had so much fun incorporating them into every detail of the shoot.
Tips To Pull Off The Look
A talented team of creatives came together to help pull off the look we were trying to achieve and every vendor brought their A-game to this shoot. We adorned the William Aiken House with a lush ceremony, a perfectly detailed reception, delicate & detailed fine-art stationery & the most perfect cake! We ended the shoot with a look change for our models including a short reception dress with 3D florals & a champagne pop!
DIY Moments
Our reception table against the venue's yellow walls incorporated soft colored linens, perfectly detailed menus & place cards with wax seals, adorned with hints of black in the napkin rings, flatware, & silk bows. Our fine art classic with a modern southern twist tablescape was accompanied by a fun take on a fruit element.. pearls! A southern statement. The cafe style black & rattan dining chairs against the table helped complete the look.
