Coastal Neutrals and Understated Elegance in Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard

Watchmere in Edgartown was the dream location for this wedding. The coastal manor covered in cedar shingles in the traditional Vineyard architectural style boasts a private estate for a luxury event. Complete with a shimmering pool and plenty of space for a tented reception, Watchmere has all of the coastal charm and minimal elegance required for a Vineyard wedding.

Our bride began the day in her first gown, a cream Wilden London scalloped edge dream with delicate bow and ruffled details. The unique design of the gown showed off her Chanel shoes while still having all of the elegance of a full ball gown. She then changed into her reception look, a Sébastien Luke lace gown with a long flowing bow and ruffles. Both gowns captured the day's commitment to old world glamor and coastal elegance, with exquisite details and unique designs.

Inspired by the florals that bloom in Edgartown in the spring, the hydrangea-forward arrangements filled wicker baskets and bud vases to create a chic minimalistic design. The soft blues, greens, and whites of a New England summer carried through all of the stationery pieces, the place settings, and the decor. The sailboat escort table was a show-stopper, hand painted by Courtney Kibby Designs. Every intentional design element felt cozy and coastal, including the "Coastal Grandmother" signature cocktail and hand painted lamps on the bar.

My favorite design elements were the tiny, thoughtful, and personal details. The "Coastal Grandmother" signature cocktail was served with fresh sprigs of lavender, which grow naturally on Watchmere's property. Martha's Vineyard is a haven for sailing, and the sailboat escort display was breathtaking and intentional. Even the cheeky cocktail napkins that reflected the spirit of the signature cocktail were perfection. The day was filled with small details that brought together the elegant celebration.

This coastal elegant wedding can be achieved through a soft color palette, stunning florals throughout, and a commitment to small, personal details.
