If the last year has taught us anything it’s that intimate weddings can be just as beautiful and even more personal than a bigger event. With the constant regulation changes due to COVID across the world, intimate weddings provide you with a way to still have your nearest and dearest attend your special day. With that in mind, I’ve curated a list of less conventional locations for your intimate event to be brought to life.
For those wanting a luxe, romantic and formal sit down dinner affair, an art gallery is the perfect spot to tie the knot. Normally, a great blank canvas – an extra bonus is that the art pieces bring personality, colour and texture to your event without you lifting a finger. A paired down guest list affords you the option of using smaller galleries as well as creating a floor plan that will allow your guests to admire the art work while you mix and mingle.
Okay, so hear me out! This is definitely the least traditional of most venues but depending on your guest count an intimate event in your living room can be absolutely beautiful. Since there most likely will be less square footage to consider, having a planner or florist design something stunning is totally attainable and you won’t need to leave the comfort of your home. Move all of your furniture out and transform the space for your guests. You will definitely create long lasting memories in your own space with this option.
Renting a room in a restaurant is a great way to host your intimate event. With the caterer being in house and most of the furniture necessary already provided by the venue, this gives you a great chance to relax and leave the details to the restaurant owner. Adding small touches such as centrepieces can really enhance the space and create a welcoming and personal environment.
This option isn’t as unconventional but normally a smaller backyard wasn’t a go-to place where couples wanted to host their weddings. Depending on your guest size, your backyard can be the perfect setting to tie the knot. On top of it being familiar it’s the perfect space for an Al Fresco dining experience and with the right ambiance, magical for that late night soiree.
No space in your own home? A great way to get that “homey” intimate experience outside of your own domain is to find an Airbnb. Due note that some Airbnb’s do not allow parties or events so definitely check with your property host. Finding the right space is key. Whether by the water, in a metropolitan area or in a suburban neighbourhood – the possibilities are endless.
A coffee shop definitely is one of the most unconventional spaces I added to this list. Think of your local coffee shop as an intimate events gem in the rough. Depending on the layout these spaces can be great for social distancing as well as a chill cocktail environment. While maybe not the best for a sit down dinner – this venue is perfect for a more laid back ceremony with a meet and greet style cocktail hour.
This venue definitely would suit the more casual couple looking primarily for a ceremony space and some laid back cocktails. Since libraries are bursting at the seams with books, shelves and architecture – this is your chance to have a personality filled event with built in decor. Personalize your event using your favourite florals, bud vases or even installations if the restrictions allow.
The true beauty of an intimate event are the personal touches you can add to your day as well as the time spent with loved ones. By selecting a unique venue you can infuse your personality as well as create an environment that is uniquely you without breaking the bank.
