A Black Tie Affair With a Floral Twist at Bar Mansion in Austin

The Planning
Design / Vibe / Vision
The vision for the wedding was Garden Party Gala: a black tie affair with a floral twist. Guests were encouraged to wear pastels and floral patterns in their formalwear while enjoying an almost completely outdoor event. The ceremony and cocktail hour were held around golden hour, while dinner was served just as the sunset was ending.
Proposal Story
A little backstory: a few months into dating, Adam took Kyra out to Cape Cod where his mom lives. On a quiet beach with no one else around, Adam and Kyra exchanged their first “I love you”s. Fast forward to two years after that, the couple was back visiting family on the Cape. In Spohr Gardens on the water, just a short distance away from the original “I love you” spot, Adam proposed to Kyra. He was wearing the museum pin they received from their first date at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. While the engagement was something they had discussed, the proposal moment was a joyous surprise. Adam had even planned an engagement party the next day with their family and closest friends.
The Fashion
Wedding Gown
The ceremony gown was from Watters Designs, specifically their Willowby line. It was a white, A-line dress with full sleeves, an open back, and floral beading across the entire bust. The details provided the right amount of whimsy for the garden party theme. After dinner, Kyra changed into a silk ivory dress from Shona Joy.
Bridesmaid Dresses
Kyra asked her bridesmaids to pick whatever dress they felt comfortable in, while staying in the color palette for the day. There was a lovely balance of pinks, sage tones, and one floral dress.
Groomsman Attire
While Adam wore a navy tux for the ceremony from Suit Supply, groomsmen wore black tuxedos from the Black Tux. After dinner, Adam also changed into an ivory dinner jacket from the Black Tux. Per his request, the bride and groom wore matching Nike Dunks with their second outfits.
The Details
Food & Drink
Food and drinks were all done by the venue, Barr Mansion, featuring seasonal produce from their own garden. Guests enjoyed passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour, followed by a plated dinner. The couple chose their signature drink, the Hugo–based on the classic cocktail of prosecco, St. Germain, and sparkling water–to highlight their corgi of the same name.
Florals & Decor
With a garden party theme, florals were very important to the bride. Christin from Clementine Botanical Art put together a stunning variety of flowers for aisle pieces, table centerpieces, bouquets, and boutonnieres. The chuppah covered in baby's breath brought the entire vision to life.
Wedding Cake
The wedding cake was also made in-house at Barr Mansion. It featured a vanilla chiffon cake with strawberry mousse as the frosting. The external design was simple and classic with only a few flowers as an accent.
Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs
The processional was split into three moments: the groom and his parents walked down the aisle to Wasteland, Baby! by Hozier, the wedding party walked down in pairs to Turning Page by Sleeping at Last, and the bride walked down with her parents to La Valse d'Amélie by Yann Tiersen (a piece from the score of her favorite movie Amélie). Readings included the poem "[i carry your heart with me[i carry it in]" by e.e. cummings and a snippet from The Little Prince. The bride and groom's wedding bands were engraved with a line from the poem. At the reception, Adam performed Kyra's father-daughter dance song, playing guitar and singing Stop This Train by John Mayer.
Special Detail #1
Kyra's father Mickey officiated their non-traditional ceremony, blending elements from their Christian faith and Jewish heritage.
Special Detail #2
As a designer herself, Kyra took up the challenge to design all digital and printed elements of the wedding. The website, save the dates, invitation suite, programs, menus, signage, and more were all lovingly created by the bride.
