An Intimate and Romantic Lake Como Wedding Overflowing With Flowers

From the bride… I was obsessed with Bridgerton while planning the wedding and wanted that vibrant yet soft color vibe for our wedding. I wanted to enhance the colors of the villa, which is why we matched the moms’ dresses to the shutters and the bridesmaids’ dresses to the flowers in the garden.

[field title=”Proposal Story”]Garrett wanted to reset the scene of our first date at the Riverwalk in San Antonio. He got together with our friends and they came up with a brilliant plan to get me downtown for New Year’s Eve so that I wouldn’t be suspicious (I’m a very difficult person to surprise). When we got to the spot – a bridge where we took our first photo together as a couple – my friends suggested taking a photo of us, since the river was all lit up. Instead of a photo, they were taking videos, as while I was posing, Garrett was getting down on his knee to ask me to marry him. I was in complete shock, as my response was, “What! No! No way! What…YES!?” [/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

I wore Adeline by Rita Vinieris. I was feeling discouraged while dress shopping and had decided to call it a day, when I saw the dress on my way out. I asked my stylist if I could try it on, even though it was a very different silhouette from what I wanted, I was drawn in by the details on the top. I immediately started crying when I looked in the mirror, and more tears began flowing when she told me the dress was called Adeline, which is my grandmother’s name. It was meant to be!

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]I wanted my bridesmaids to feel beautiful and comfortable on the day, so I asked them to choose their own dresses. I requested light pastel colors that were cohesive with the garden and encouraged florals, ruffles and/or flowy gowns. It worked out that all of the girls ended up wanting pink dresses, so we pivoted and I asked my maid of honor to wear a dress with a yellow base to stand out from the pink. I think they all looked beautiful and the dresses went great with my vision![/field]

[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]For the groomsmen we gave a lot less direction. We asked them to avoid black, and requested that they wear what they would imagine they’d see at an Italian garden party. They were so great in choosing their looks and really hit the nail on the head. My favorite look was Garrett’s little brother, who wore a matching toile de jouy tie and pocket square – it was adorable![/field]

Working with Sunlake Catering was a dream! The food was incredible, restaurant quality, and they were so helpful in assisting us as we paired the food and wine. I felt like we truly had an authentic Italian cuisine experience at our wedding. Upon arrival, guests were greeted with prosecco as a welcome drink, which continued to be served into cocktail hour, where it was met with aperol and limoncello spritz. The food served during cocktail hour was delicious; we had a large charcuterie-like spread on the tables, and passed apps included meatballs, chicken, Parmigiano cheese on a crouton topped with truffle, and a biscuit of Parmigiano cheese paired with Praga ham. For dinner we were met with our first course, ravioli filled with burrata, fresh tomatoes and basil, paired with Baracco de Baracho. Our second course was sliced sirloin beef atop salad, with walnuts, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and balsamic vinegar pearls, paired with Montepulciano Superiore. After dinner we had an open bar, but continued to serve our specialty drinks of aperol and limoncello spritz.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]

Margarita at Lake Como Florist is an absolute artist! She was so easy to work with and truly brought my vision to life. I didn’t want to overdo it with the florals because I didn’t want to take away from the natural beauty of Lake Como and Villa Regina Teodolinda. I told Margarita I wanted to do a large, fluffed, dramatic arch for the ceremony, and she definitely delivered! I felt that the florals in our ceremony space complimented both the villa and the scenery of the lake but still had that wow factor I wanted. For the tablescape, I loved the idea of one large table with the floral piece running down the middle, accompanied by candles. Unlike our arch, I asked that we include a light pop of color into this arrangement to compliment the peach color of the villa. The flowers were so perfect; it was like I had taken the vision I had in my head and handed it to Margarita, who made it come to life!

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]In true Bridgerton fashion, we had a string quartet play covers of modern songs for the ceremony and cocktail hour. I walked down the aisle to their rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” which felt like a dream. We had our first dance to “Il Mondo.” About Time is our favorite movie, and we had always joked that I would walk down the aisle to Il Mondo like Rachel McAdams did in that movie. When it came time for us to plan our wedding, we continued to make that joke, but then began to consider it for our first dance. We reached a point where we’d said, “If our song is going to be in Italian, should we just get married in Italy?” And the rest was history![/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #1″]There are two details of our wedding that stand out to me. I was obsessed with our invitation suite, but especially loved our RSVP cards because we were able to feature our dogs on it. Our three dogs are our babies and we wanted to incorporate them into the special day somehow, and I think the artist perfectly captured them and their personalities on the card. [/field]

[field title=”Special Detail #2″] The second detail that was so special to me was the song I danced to with my dad for our father-daughter dance. We started out with a traditional choreographed slow dance, but broke out into a polka halfway through the dance. This was a big secret we had been keeping, and I feel like our guests all loved it! I loved being able to celebrate our Polish background and making that memory with my dad![/field]
