Day 1 – Rehearsal Dinner: We started the weekend off with a beautiful rehearsal dinner on the dock at the restaurant Bagni sant-anna. We were surrounded on all sides by the beautiful deep blue waters of the Sorrento coastline with a stunning view of Mount Vesuvius and the sunset. The night’s highlights included speeches from family and friends and then we met up with the rest of our guests at one of the popular nightclubs in Sorrento!

Day 2 – Welcome Boat Cruise The next day, we hosted a welcome boat party for all guests. The boat sailed from Sorrento to Capri and we spent the day sailing and exploring around the bright blue waters of the island of Capri! The day was filled with speeches, an original song/performance written about us by jimmy’s groomsmen, swimming in the Mediterranean, and endless music and dancing! We then sailed home and experienced the most perfect sunset while we danced the night away to our favorite music. It was a very fun and unforgettable day and the perfect way to welcome all our guests to the Amalfi Coast after traveling a ways away to celebrate with us! The wedding day took place in an amazing villa literally in the center of Sorrento but the feeling was like you are in some big Mediterranean garden surrounded by lemon and olive trees. We wanted to have this beautiful garden vibe throughout the night!

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

I had an eye on my dress early on when I was searching online when we started wedding planning. We decided to plan a day of wedding dress shopping in New York City (where I live). The dress I had seen online was available at Kleinfeld Bridal which was our second bridal shop destination planned for the day. I fell in love with a dress at the first shop that was romantic and fun (which was what I was looking for) but it was more trendy and had a cape veil detail. Then when we arrived at Kleinfeld’s, I tried on the Marchesa gown (a collection for Pronovias) that I had my eye on. I loved it so much but was torn between the two dresses. Then, my dad gave me some great advice and asked me the question, “What do you think Jimmy would want to see you in?”. I immediately knew he would prefer the Marchesa gown since it was romantic and fun like I had imagined (the sleeves are so fun!), but the bodice was more classic and timeless, which I knew Jimmy would appreciate. So, my decision was made and we cancelled the rest of the day’s bridal appointments!

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]The bridesmaids were allowed to pick any dress/ brand of their choice. I wanted them to feel comfortable and pick a dress they loved and could wear again. The criteria was to pick any white based floral dress with muted pastel florals. They understood the assignment and everyone looked stunning.

[field title=”Food & Drink”]

This took place around the venue’s stunning pool area with an Italian swing band playing live background music. The aperitif consisted of classic Italian cocktails – Aperol spritzes, limoncello spritzes, negronis, etc. It also consisted of multiple food and live cooking stations – some highlights include mozzarella making, prosciutto cutting, an extensive olive bar and this amazing hanging melted cheese station. The cheese was then sliced and drizzled on toast that was cooking on the grill bellow it (this was a crowd favorite!!). All the food used and cooked throughout the wedding evening was farm to table and made from scratch using ingredients from the villa’s many gardens and groves. The Dinner: The guests then flowed into a covered white wood and glass enclosed reception area. The structure was decorated with lots of greenery, wild hanging plants and bistro lighting. The tablespaces were imperfectly perfect with different height, colored and spaced candles and flowers. We danced our first dance to “say a little prayer” by Aretha franklin, we wanted to dance to something up beat and fun! We ate fresh homemade pasta to start and a local fish for the main meal. However, probably one of my favorite parts of this aspect of the wedding was the speeches. My sister’s speech was extremely sentimental and sweet, which was the perfect contrast to Jimmy’s brother’s speech. Contrary to his officiation duties, no story or joke was safe, so Jeff was able to really let loose and left everyone laughing every second of the way. Then it was my dad’s turn, and he brought the whole crowd to tears. His speech was what every girl dreams of when they picture their wedding day. These three speeches together were the perfect mix of emotions, love, and fun.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]The wedding flowers feature a delicate palette of watercolor hues, including blush, baby blue, baby pink, peach, light yellow, lavender, and green. The overall arrangement evokes a garden-like atmosphere, complemented by the addition of lemon and olive accents.[/field]

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]This took place on the stone patio of the villa itself. Our wedding arch was set between two lemon trees and olive trees, so I wanted it to look more natural. The guests enjoyed glasses of prosecco before the ceremony among the venue’s cypress lined pathways and fountain area. The ceremony began with the bridesmaids/groomsmen walking down the aisle to an acoustic version of “tiny dancer” by Elton John played on the cello. Then I walked down the aisle to “your song” by Elton John also played acoustically on the cello. The ceremony was officiated by my husband’s brother, Jeff. This may have been one of my favorite parts of the wedding. He is truly a character and knows of both so well (he went to college with both of us), so he made the ceremony extremely personal, special, loving but also funny and lighthearted. It was perfect.[/field]

Wedding Rings Jimmy found my engagement ring at Erstwhile Jewelry, an antique jewelry retailer in NYC. My engagement ring is inspired by an antique ring design with antique-sourced stones. I wanted something unique and romantic, and it was everything I could have hoped for. For our wedding rings, we decided we both wanted very simple gold bands. We decided to support a local family jeweler near my parent’s home in Connecticut – Addessi Jewelers.

The Venue: Planning a large abroad wedding was difficult, but my wedding planner Happy Moments Collector made it as easy as it could have been! Finding a venue on the Amalfi coast that could host our large group was no easy task. However, when they found our venue, Villa Zagara, we immediately fell in love and trusted them wholeheartedly. Shockingly, the first time I saw the venue in person was on our wedding when I walked to the wedding venue after doing our first look. I wanted to see the venue for the first time in its full glory and it truly exceeded every one of my expectations! Every inch of the venue embodied our dolce vita/romantic garden party aesthetic perfectly.

[field title=”Special Detail #3″]The Weather: I woke up the day of our wedding to thunder and lightning! I couldn’t believe it after the weather had been so perfect for so many days prior. This was a bummer to me, as it would be to any bride, however my Bridesmaids and family were so great about keeping me calm and excited! Every time it thundered my bridesmaids would cheer to drown out the noise as an attempt to keep my mind off of it. This was so funny and sweet of them. However, to everyone’s surprise, the moment I walked out of the hotel room in my wedding dress, as I was walking down for my first look with Jimmy, the sun came out from the clouds and a rainbow formed over the ocean in front of Mount Vesuvius. It truly was the craziest and most magical weather change; we still don’t understand how it occurred. It was such a drastic change that we are convinced it must have been someone watching from above :). After that, there was not a cloud in the sky the rest of our wedding day.[/field]
