Old World Inspired Shoot With a Nod to Pride and Prejudice

We took inspiration from the Texas Hillcountry sunset and the old world victorian era. We wanted the florals and settings to feel like an old English tea party and wedding ceremony. We incorporated old books, fine china and dainty details to make one feel as if they're in "Pride and Prejudice."

We chose Ma Maison for its iconic greenhouse structure located a few steps from the reception hall. We wanted a venue that felt like the English countryside and had plenty of trees and vines to mimic the look of a forest. The grounds are perfect for an outdoor reception and the surrounding landscaping makes for the perfect backdrop of an English tea party inspired table scape.

Florals were a big part of our vision and we chose to incorporate that into the attire. We worked with Styled Gowns to pulls some floral patterned dresses into the shoot. Non-traditional weddings dresses are all the rage now and we felt that this would be a perfect way to show couples how they can express themselves in their attire.

The florals and decor was where this entire shoot started. We based everything off the floral color palette. Our main goal was to accomplish a garden feel and create designs with movement. The tea party vignette was inspired by Pride and Prejudice. We used thrifted tea sets, old books and small floral arrangements to create an encompassed picnic scene. For the arch, we wanted it to compliment the dresses and couch to create a cozy, painting inspired vignette. Only garden roses were used in order to mimic the look of a trellis.

We loved the visual textures we used. Lots of floral patterns were at play in the tea set and dresses. We wanted the shoot to feel soft and feminine and give a nod to our love of old English patterns and designs.

Our best tip to execute this look is to balance textures and solids evenly. For our tablescape we chose a solid velvet linen but took pink rattan chairs to create visual interest. When in doubt choose florals, delicate details and vintage inspired furniture to pull off this look.
