Aspen Wedding Celebrates The Outdoors And Colorado’s Rocky Mountains

The Planning
Design / Vibe / Vision
We knew we wanted to have the wedding in Aspen, and so we were inspired by the beauty of the landscape and the western influences. Our welcome dinner Friday was “Aspen western” themed. We knew we wanted to do the ceremony outside with the backdrop of the beautiful landscape, and we got so lucky that the rain held off for us to be able to do that! Most of the design inspiration came from our amazing planner, Juls Sharpley, who channeled our vision for a “dinner party” feel. Kelly Hornberger captured it all perfectly.
Proposal Story
We met working at the same firm but I (Elizabeth) was in the New York office and Bloor was based in San Francisco on a different team. For a few years we were just friends/colleagues but always enjoyed each others’ company. We originally met in 2016 and started dating in 2018. We got engaged in Aspen (where our wedding was and where we have so many of our favorite memories together). We lived in Aspen during 2020 (when we were working from home during COVID) and also had some of our first trips together there to ski. It has become our happy place and our home away from home and we got engaged on top of the Ute trail in the summer of 2021, and Bloor hiked the same trail with his groomsmen the morning of our wedding.
The Fashion
Wedding Gown
I wore a gown by Lihi Hod, and changed into a silk reception dress that was made by Emma Beaumont. For our exit, I also wore a fringe jacket by Emma Beaumont. I found my dress in LA at NWLA bridal, who was one of the only places in the US to carry the gown so I went there specifically to try it on after I had seen it online! Nadia and her team were so fun. I also wore my mom’s bracelet (which was given to her by my grandmother), which was special. Bloor wore a custom Tom Ford tuxedo, and for our exit wore his Kemo Sabe cowboy hat! He also wore his watch I gave him as an engagement/wedding gift.
The Details
Food & Drink
The food was inspired by Aspen, with a local lettuce salad with grilled peaches followed by sage elk loin and heirloom carrots. For signature drinks, we had margaritas and the bride's favorite espresso martini.
Florals & Decor
The florals by Flower + Vine were filled with lots of lush garden roses and ranunculus. The ceremony florals were absolutely stunning, and we were so lucky the rain held off for us to be able to have it outside. The classic stone urns were beautiful set against the rolling mountain view.
Wedding Cake
The cake was also a major highlight - it was half pistachio and half almond and was amazing. It had a very painterly feel, with light gray and white palette brushed icing.
Special Detail #1
We also had fun escort cards that were modeled after ski lift tickets (with table names as the four ski mountains in Aspen).
Special Detail #2
We also loved making the wine selections and getting to share some of our favorite wines with our wedding guests.
