From the Bride… Aubree first spotted Wylie in middle school and admired him from afar for 3 years. In 2010, the two started a friendship during their sophomore year in AP European History and eventually began dating. They were finding their own age of enlightenment sneaking glances at each other, rather than learning about the cultural movement of intellectuals in 17th century Europe. As luck would have it, they even were prom King and Queen their senior year of high school. Wylie proposed in 2019 on a surprise trip to Treehouse Pointe. A tree house hotel located just outside of Seattle, WA. He packed a picnic, ring they had picked out and designed together and had a photographer hidden in the bushes to capture the special moment.
Wedding inspiration and vision: Wylie and Aubree live in the historic district of San Juan Capistrano, CA just down the street from the Tea House on Los Rios. The two spent many anniversaries and birthday celebrations over a cup a tea and heart shaped scones at The Tea House. They wanted to incorporate the ambiance of English tea into their big day. Aubree was inspired by florals on vintage fine bone China patterns, garden roses, every shade of pink/peach and subtle grandmacore vibes. The couple bought and painted an English phonebooth and added a working telephone for the guest book. They also wanted the guests to be able to have a tea service and so they incorporated a tea bar with a variety of tea selections and Royal Albert teacups curated and collected by the bride. As a last-minute touch, real butterflies were added to provide more color throughout the décor and pull the garden vibe inside.
Highlights from the wedding day: We wanted a big wedding with an intimate feel. We knew we may not get a chance to talk to each guest on the day, so we decided to write personal letters to each guest and had it placed at their seat for dinner. We wanted to express our love and appreciation to each person for joining us on our wedding day and thank them for the role they had in our journey to this point. This small act magnified the warmth in the ballroom and love and gratitude we felt for each person in attendance. It had a huge impact on the guests. It really brought a personal connection to each conversation throughout the night and was also a way to recollect meaningful memories we shared in the letters. In total 146 letters were written, 1 for each couple/family or person in attendance. We spent our writing power writing letters and forgot to write our vows. We both wrote our vows in the 30 minutes just before the ceremony. Our vows were short sweet and quintessentially Aubree and Wylie. They both carried a similar theme, that Aubree leaves trash in every car she enters, and referenced our dog children Luna and Nori. Not writing our vows ahead of time was stressful on the day, but in retrospect, the laughter and tears that our personal last-minute expressions of love brought to us has become one of our most treasured memories. Our final highlight was having our dog children Luna (10) and Norberta (3) included in the day. We got Luna in 2012 as Wylie was leaving for college. She was supposed to be his replacement. Instead, her intuitive, silly nature helped bridge the distance between us for the four years Wylie was at university. Norberta, the little sister, inched her way into our hearts solidifying our family as a seamless addition and best friend to all. My favorite moment of the day was standing at the isle looking at the family and friends who had supported us for ten years and seeing our two doodles waiting with Wylie at the other end of the aisle. We never imagined that 10 years later we would be at the alter with Luna, and now Norberta, getting married. It was magic.
Advice for planning couples: Enjoy the planning process because one day you’ll be sitting on the couch with your husband reminiscing about the fun time you had rearranging the seating chart 900 times.. Most importantly, be sure to build a team of vendors that you know you can trust, vibe well with and can refer to for advice and recommendations. We were so lucky to have found amazing vendors that we loved and felt personally connected to. They do this every weekend, they’re the experts, trust them. Also, don’t forget to write your vows. “
