It’s true, diamonds are forever, but styles change and we must admit, we’re a bit more than excited to see wedding bands get a well-deserved glow-up. What started as a simple gold band evolved into other metals and different levels of adornment like engraving and filigree. Then as engagement rings with thinner pavé bands became popular, we saw wedding bands thin out to match. But look out because there’s a new band in town and she THICK. Where brides were once looking for bands that practically became one with their engagement ring, now they’re looking for serious stand-out pieces, like these babies from Grown Brilliance.
As with all trends, there are a ton of factors that go into the change in direction. We suspect that these bands (and the stones on them) are getting bigger now because, well…they can. With the advent of lab-grown diamonds, like these ones from Grown Brilliance, these gorgeous bands that once would have been cost-prohibitive for most couples are now surprisingly affordable. Grown Brilliance is the industry leader in lab-grown diamond rings, and for good reason. All of their diamonds are carefully created and are physically identical to their mined counterparts. Plus, in their labs and design studios, all local labor laws are followed and the creation of their lab-grown diamonds is free from funding violence, warlords, rebels, terror groups, corrupt governments, or other human rights abuses. So, you can rest easy knowing that no one was hurt in the making of your ring. More diamonds, no guilt–it’s a win-win in our books!
These larger bands are meant to stand out but you do want to make sure that they complement your engagement ring. We recommend choosing a wedding band with the same color metal as your engagement ring and with stones that are the same diamond shape and cut. As far as size goes, the big band trend looks best with stones that are about 1/4 of the size of the main stone on your engagement ring. So, if the center stone on your engagement ring is 2ct, the stones on your wedding band would be around .5ct each. A lot of couples are also investing in multiple diamond wedding bands, creating a chic (and sparkly) stack. For long engagements, consider getting a band for your anniversary and one for the big day. Or, you could exchange one band when you make it official at city hall and one at your ceremony.
You’ve probably heard the term “eternity band” but what does it mean? Eternity bands are bands that feature diamonds all the way around instead of just on top, and they are super popular right now. We love the look in general, but our favorite part is that no matter how many times your ring spins during the day (which it will) you’ll never know. No need to straighten it out because it’ll always be sparkly side up!
