Southern Provencal Garden Wedding With Bunny Mellon Touches

Where do we even begin when it comes to this stunning Savannah affair? Runway-worthy fashion statements, Bunny Mellon inspired design and whimsical floral arrangements filled with allium, sweet pea and antique roses from Blossom Events… these are just a few of the insanely special details you’ll find at the full gallery by Julie Livingston Photography. The darling couple acquired the help of Reagan Events to bring their wedding dreams to reality, and boy did they deliver! To say we’re obsessed is the understatement of the century.

From the bride, Miranda… Having each spent time living in many cities around the country before meeting in Dallas in 2020, Scott and I were lucky to have made such wonderful friends across numerous states who we knew we’d be asking to travel to celebrate our big day. We wanted to pick a destination that would allow everyone the opportunity to enjoy exploring in between our wedding events, so we began our search in Charleston, where I’d always dreamed of a quintessential low country wedding (and thankfully my Milwaukee-raised then future husband agreed). After striking out with available dates at most of our preferred venues, our planner, Reagan of Reagan Events, suggested the perfect “plan B” and ultimately lead us to Savannah and the idyllic Ford Field and River Club—it was love at first sight and we immediately set the date for Memorial Day weekend 2022!

So much of the appeal of Savannah for us was in its eclectic mix of culture, history and of course breathtaking nature! We wanted to fully embrace all of those ideals in the design concept of our whole weekend, so we created a vision board that felt like a southern adaptation of The Secret Garden with a touch of Provençal interior design influence: overgrown florals and abundant greenery, grand garden gates and egret motifs, antique collectibles and silver mixed with rattan and wicker pieces, all under a sailcloth tent! My mom, sister and I all share a forever love of purple flowers, so we special requested allium, sweet pea and antique roses all in purple hues as the standout blooms in our table arrangements. Paired back to sage green as the primary color in our design palate, plus touches of soft peach, dusty rose and periwinkle, our all-star vendor team created a space that truly felt as if you were cocktail-ing, eating and dancing on a warm, candle lit summer night in a garden in full bloom.

One of my favorite aspects of our wedding design process was working with the immensely talented Julie King Studio. She created not only our entire wedding paper suite, but also designed the art work for our band stage backdrop, circular cocktail bar dance floor AND fun takeaways like match books, maps of Savannah and our late-night snack bags. I’ve long loved hand painted wall murals and wallpaper for interiors, so she played off of a few of my favorite saved images to create a unique garden design featuring budding trees, butterflies and an egret that became a fixed little motif across all our wedding designs!

Finding the dress(es) was one of the—thankfully—easiest and most special parts of the planning process. For my gown, I knew I wanted something strapless, column shaped and with a bow on the back, based off an inspiration photo I’d saved nearly a decade ago from an Alber Elbaz-era Lanvin bridal collection. I took my mom and sister to shop with me, and on our second stop of the day, we walked into the Carolina Herrera salon in Dallas and found exactly what I had been hoping for and then some! They graciously made a few tweaks to make the bow fuller and visible from the front, and it was more special (and comfortable!) than I could’ve ever imagined. I initially hadn’t planned to find a second change reception dress, but when an appointment spot opened up at Happy Isles salon in LA, I booked a flight on a whim in hopes of finding something to change my mind! I was elated to find just that in a silver fringe-beaded taupe hued dress that immediately reminded me of a ballgown worn by Audrey Hepburn’s Eliza Doolittle character in the film My Fair Lady. It ended up making for the perfect sparkly party dress!

From the rehearsal dinner to our post-wedding Bloody Mary’s + Biscuits goodbye brunch, our weekend was the biggest blur of pure joy, love and sweet moments we’ll cherish forever surrounded by all of our very favorite people who’ve walked us through so many stages of our lives, separately and together. As our guests moved from cocktail hour to the tent for dinner and dancing on our wedding day, we took a moment to ourselves on the lawn to watch the sun go down and take it all in together. The overwhelming feeling of love and gratitude is something I’ll never forget—for any future brides reading this, take a moment away with your husband to soak in all the happiness. You’ll never remember what goes right or wrong, but you’ll never forget those first few married moments of pure wedding day bliss!
