From the couple... In the summer of 2015, Ali and Blake were each working separate internships in San Diego. One weekend, Ali's friend from college and San Diego native, Kelly, invited Ali and a couple of her friends to a popular bar to celebrate her childhood friend's 21st birthday. At a bar in Pacific Beach, Ali met her future husband Blake (who was wearing a Hawaiian shirt covered in surfing Santas), on his 21st birthday. She bought him a birthday drink, an Old Fashioned (the first cocktail she could think of) which he reluctantly drank and she impressed him with her Padres knowledge while they watched the game. One week later, Blake asked Ali out on a date and they've been inseparable ever since. After one year of long distance during their senior year of college, Blake and Ali moved to NYC to start their careers.
After 4 exciting years living in the big city and braving the East Coast winters, the two were eager to move back to their home state of sunny California. After over 5 years of dating, Blake proposed while on a sailboat ride around Lido Island in Newport Beach. Ali had no idea her five best friends (and bridesmaids) were waiting patiently in the cabin on the boat to surprise her after she said 'YES!'. But the fun wasn't over then; Ali returned home to a surprise engagement party on the beach with 40 of their closest family and friends set up by the Picnic Collective. It was the most warm and peaceful October night and the perfect day!
For their wedding day, Ali and Blake knew they wanted a location that was close enough to drive to for the majority of their guests in California, but with a destination aspect that felt new and exciting. Ali and Blake chose Santa Barbara and fell in love with the Rosewood Miramar (or rather Ali and her mom did because they booked the venue on the spot and consulted him via FaceTime). The property was a perfect mix of East Coast elegance, South Carolina charm, and California coastline. They've always wanted an outdoor ceremony with a garden feel and this was the perfect place! Ali & Blake originally had no intentions of a ballroom reception, they actually insisted on a tented, indoor/outdoor reception but once they saw the Chandelier Ballroom covered in Baccarat crystal chandeliers, they quickly changed their minds. For the decor, they wanted cozy and warm - tons of real candles, neutral blooms, and twinkle lights. Their ultimate goal of the day was to spend it together as much as possible, dance A LOT, eat great food and celebrate the beginning of a beautiful life together.
