Kyle and I met in middle school, in English class. We sat next to each other in History class and developed a friendship. We started dating the summer going into our sophomore year of High School. Our wedding day ended up being one day shy of exactly 10 years since our first kiss. Our original wedding date, June 20, 2020, would have been 9 years to the day. We had been together for so long, so we talked about getting engaged a lot. Since our family is so important to us, my only request was that both of our families were there. Kyle proposed on Mother’s Day 2019 at Grayhawk Golf Club at a brunch planned for his mom, that my parents ended up attending as well to surprise me. We spent the evening with my parents and his dad and truly had the most perfect day. The most anticipated and most special moment of our wedding day was seeing each other and exchanging vows during our first look.
Romantic Summer Garden wedding was the theme we were going for. We wanted our wedding to be beautiful, romantic, and elegant, but also relaxed and fun – we wanted our guests to be comfortable and feel at home. We stuck to a lot of whites, blues, and neutrals throughout the wedding. My Uncle Scott, who was the minister at my parent’s wedding 30 years ago, also officiated our wedding. For the ceremony we chose the more intimate ceremony space at El Chorro, to make it seem more like the garden feel we wanted. We chose white wooden chairs paired with the greenery and floral archway and accented with white parasols and handheld fans to help with the Arizona heat.
At the cocktail hour we decorated with a customized blue seating chart, blue accents on the gift and sign-in table, and a white bar to match the white linens. In the reception space, we decorated with a beautiful custom dance floor wrap to match the bar and our invitations. We had different shades of blue on the linens and stationery on the tables, accented with white stone plates and gold flatware. The dance floor was a last-minute decision, and I am so glad we added it because it was so, special.
The florals were one of the pieces of the wedding I was most looking forward to and what many of our decisions were made around. We had flowers and greenery in almost every aspect of the wedding. For the ceremony, we had beautiful greenery and a floral arch as our backdrop, with floral arrangements placed at the beginning of the aisle that was covered in white rose petals. During cocktail hour we had some flower arrangements on the gift table and bar, as well as two larger floral pieces in front of the champagne tower. In the reception space, we had beautiful romantic floral centerpieces, with floral at the sweetheart table, as well as some greenery and floral hanging from chandeliers above the dance floor. My bouquet, along with the bridesmaid’s bouquets matched the rest of the flowers of the wedding and were predominately white and green. We personalized our day with a glam photo booth for our guests, as well as grilled cheese sandwiches and tater tots for a late-night snack. Based on my personality and pageant history, everyone expected me in a big, elaborate, sparkly dress. I opted for classic and simple because I wanted the whole day, including our attire, to truly be timeless. I wore a simple Carolina Herrera gown with buttons all down the back, with a little bit of sparkle added on the most amazing Mira Zwillinger veil. Kyle wore a custom blue suit with a blue floral tie, and a dress shirt adorned with his initials on the sleeves. To accessorize we also kept it very simple, I wore pear-shaped earrings, with Kyle’s late grandmother’s ring that she gifted to me for my college graduation.
Like everyone typically says, my advice is to truly be present in each moment, and soak in the whole day because it goes by in the blink of an eye. Another piece of advice I have is if you are contemplating a larger bridal party – do it. It is logistically a lot of work, and can of course get more expensive, but being able to spend the whole day with our very best friends was such a blessing and made our wedding even more special to us. Our vendors were all incredible, we truly had a dream team. Throughout one postponement and one change in venue, every single vendor was with us from start to finish. When we had to postpone, we picked the day around our vendors because we couldn’t even fathom moving forward if we didn’t have each and every one of them. If it were not for our planners, BTS Event Management, I think we would have thrown in the towel and eloped. They helped us first choose a new day, and then a little while later choose a new venue, all while keeping us calm. We had a very clear vision of what we wanted our wedding to look and feel like but had no idea how to execute it. BTS understood exactly what we were going for and put together the most incredible day, with the most incredible vendors. Without them, none of it would have been possible! Our photo and video team were AMAZING. Ashley, Molly, Luke and everyone else there to help were so pleasant to be around and brought a sense of joy and excitement to our wedding day that we did not know we needed. Not only did we love being around them, but they are seriously so talented and far exceeded any expectations we had. Our wedding day was HOT, but from looking at the photos by Ashley Rae Photography and video from LOVE STORY FILMS you would never be able to tell. Their work individually is incredible, to say the least, but their work goes together so well that we felt like we could not possibly have one without the other. We will cherish their artwork for the rest of our lives! Our florists The Wildflower AZ were incredible as well. They worked so well with our planners to execute our vision, and every arrangement truly was a work of art. I only wish that we could have saved all the flowers to keep forever too!
